Assassin is slightly better for some classes in dungeons and regular open world though.
Which ones?
(I’m not sarcastic or anything, I really like to know that)
Ty, pretty informative summary.
I’ll definitely try the Ice Floe farm point, I’ve read about it in a guide, but it was from 2012 so I thought it was outdated. I guess I’ll try for one or two hours and look if I’m happy with the outcome.
How do you farm them in dungeons? Via end chest or are there some mobs that can give lodestones?
Would be so easy.
Example A: Increase the vendor value (to like 1G or 50S or anything)
Example B: Trade in 5 rings for one ring of your choice
That’s usually a sign of bad market balance. Maybe I’ll farm Cursed Shore and hope for some lucky bag drops, plus buying some more from the gold I make there…
However, I thought about a bag containing one random lodestone for 1 laurel. But on the other hand you could just buy T6 bags, sell the mats and buy the lodestones… (every path leads to… the trading post)
Exactly, there’s nothing as different rarity → different stat height in PvP
The stats of two armors are the same if the have the same rarity and the same level.
The dungeon exotic armors are all Lv.80, so yeah, those have the best exotic stats.
(The only better armors are ascended ones, but they cost like 50 times the amount of exotic ones and its mainly only for extensive players, exotics is always fine)
Well, to get armor is pretty simple. There are many ways:
a) For money: Just at the trading post. Fastest way, but not always the cheapest.
b) Crafting: You can use collected mats, so it can be cheaper. The problem is that you first have to reach Lv400 for an exotic max armor and that needs quite many materials.
c) For dungeon marks: costs nothing, but needs some time. Plus, each dungeon has only 3 different stat combis, so you have to grind one or two dungeons if you want an armor with one specific combi
d) Karma: costs nothing and is pretty fast. Only disadvantages: there are only six stat combis and a full armor costs kinda much karma (~250 000 iirc)
e) Getting it dropped – haha just kidding, you don’t want to rely on RNG
Yep, that’s true
by the way, celestial stats are really popular at the moment for some classes.
For new things: Well, the only thing that comes to my mind: With Lv80 you are now able to play through the Living Story Season 2 after you finished your personal story (but you have to unlock the episodes for gems if you haven’t logged in during the last months).
Another thing would be fractals, what’s somehow similar to dungeons, but every frac run consists of four more or less randomly selected fractals. It’s a bit harder then dungeons, though, so you should probably start with those.
So I recently finished my achievements from the “General” tab (ok, I’m still missing giant slayer and legendary collector, but I’ll wait for HoT for these).
So I wanted to start the last collection achievements.
However, you need tons of lodestones for some of the rare collections (e.g. for the Jormag weapons and the ghostly weapons). Plus, I wanted to prepare two incinerators for HoT too, so add another 400 to that.
I know of a few farm spots, but I got a vague memory that some or most of them got nerfed. So I just wanted to see if someone has some good tips for lodestone farming (mostly needed: corrupted, destroyer, molten, charged)
I have no problem with running around with 300+ mf, but please don’t suggest farming gold to simply buy them.
1.)
PvP has different stats than PvE, true. Every armor/weapon you have equipped gets a stat boost to Lv80, so you have just two things to keep in mind:
a) You should have every equipment place filled, because emty places can’t get the stat boost
b) The type of the stats (berserk etc) is defined by the PvP build: If you’re in the PvP area (Heart of the Mists) you can click on the left symbol on the top of the screen to open your PvP build, where you can select the rune/sigills that your PvP armor/weapons should hold + an amulet that defines your stat (e.g. berserker amulet changes your armor stats to berserker stats)
2.)
That depends on your playstyle. If you want to have a somewhat harder gameplay, you can just follow the story. However, if you like it easier, you can first level up via map discovery. (Easiest map discovery order is: 6 cities – “T1” (1-15) areas – “T2” (16-25) areas and so on or simply ordered by location/whatever you like)
3.)
The zones don’t really contain much dungeon related backstory. However, the story paths of the dungeons contain the ongoing story about the conflicts of Destiny’s Edge (you get letters whenever you reach the level of a dungeon’s story path, describing the events that lead to that path).
But note that you’ll probably have a hard time to find smooth groups while not Lv80. It’s okay for some early dungeon’s story path, but not that much for the explorable ones.
4.) Well, I can just recommend to learn the crafting disciplines your char can use – for example armorsmith if your char is heavy, leatherer if medium and tailor for light ones, same goes for weapon crafting disciplines.
I wouldn’t start with cook or jeweller on your first char, it’s not that important or useful at the start.
Feel free to add more questions
The final fight would be enough.
Even though, I hardly see anyone selling Story… you could ask @lfg for sellers, but I really don’t believe that anyone is willing to do 1h of more or less unskippable content for like a few gold…
However, it’s really not so bad. You can always enter some random group and do it without bigger problems. I understand that you don’t like dungeons, but it’s not much different to some other story mission, just that other players are in there, too.
For some reason, E8 is the default episode to start with after completing the personal story.
If you have the other episodes unlocked, you can simply change to E1 while outside of instances. If not, you have to unlock them for 200gems each or simply join someone that has them unlocked, so that you can at least play the story instances.
(If you want achievements etc, you have to unlock them)

I’m not complaining, because I’m pvping a bit at the moment, so I get insta-dailies, but yeah. Something should be done about that.
Well, the special thing about GW2 is that you can reach the max equip quite easy.
Well okay, there’s still ascended equip, but it costs 50 times the amount of exotic equipment and exotics are good enough for most game contents.
So after you reached Lv80 and got your exotics, there’s not much progression left. Of course you can get better by trying different builds and so on, but that’s just no real progression per se.
The only progression after that I can think of are fractal stuff (fractal level -> 50, infusions, agony resistance) but that’s only for fractals and not needed for everything else.
The real “end game content” is collecting skins and achievements (or skins that you get for completing achievements, lol) via dungeons, end game maps (dry top: weapons, silverwastes: armor) and so on, so only cosmetic changes.
However, the xpack Heart of Maguuma will bring a new kind of progression, a horizontal one: the masteries. Basically you can “train” different abilities like gliding, precursor crafting, using jungle mushrooms for your benefit and so on. This way, new content doesn’t make your old equipment useless – you can simply train a new mastery to get access to new abilities (like in Metroid or Zelda games)
Ah… Is there a list of those achievements somewhere by any chance?
Just so I don’t spaz every time….Le Sigh
Thanks all
Story achievements. If you look at your personal story you can see which ones you have completed once and can now do achieves.
well y-no… even though it’s stated that you can only do the story achievements after the first completion of the episode on that char, it’s still possible for a few of those achievements to get them on the first try. (As the OP stated, he got 2 of 3 achievements in a certain story, while the char hasn’t completed the whole episode)
The one in “Hidden Arcana” or “Arcana Obscura” where you have to defeat your doppelganger in this mirror is an example. Did this one on the first run with my second char.

Ask them to give us just one of the letters in the deep sea Dragon’s real name (Bubbles).
It starts with a “S”… there you go, thank me later
Questions:
1) How are masteries affected by Tomes of Knowledge? (instantly high end masteries for pvper?)
2) As already stated, amount of maps (“2-3” or “3-5” or “5-10” would be enough info for me)
3) Any plans for after the xpac story? Are we staying in the jungle for a bit or onwards to the next dragon?
Whoa, okay :o
In really really short:
GW1 consisted of 3 campaigns on different continents (Tyria, Cantha and Elona) and a addon for Tyria. Of course they had different stories. The addon (Eye of the North) was something like a intro for GW2 because it introduced many GW2 races and the elder dragons, the enemies in GW2.
GW2 is about the 6 awakening elder dragons and the story builds around killing them. You only face one of them in the main story yet.
There’s just too much to say about how the world works and everything is connected. I suggest checking the wikis, there are many lore pages on there that could give you an overview.
If you like to challenge yourself, I would recommend the elementalist, too.
They are in fact a bit squishy at the start – your first map explorations can get a bit hairy at some points (mostly at some skill points guarded by a bigger mob), but once you grow out of this, you are really awesome (high flexibility).
I started with an ele and my first exotic armor was more defensive (with dolyak runes and so on), so that I had enough time to learn the class mechanics and so on. I was able to switch to a full glasscannon style (scholar runes etc) after a few weeks and I absolutely love my damage. I prefer the staff, because it’s the only ranged weapon in the entire game that does really good damage (in fact, its often better than melee weapons on other classes) and there are plenty of ways to survive, too, through the utility skills (like mist form, cleansing fire, armor of earth, arcane shield…) so it’s no problem that the health is kinda low.
I got 7 classes on 80 and did the Living Story Season 2 on 6 of them, and the ele had the best outcome.
Why?
So if you have an enemy that attacks 1x per second, he will miss 5 times (because there are 5 pulses, 1 each second, that blind him).
If there is an enemy that is kinda slow and only attacks 1x in 5 seconds, he will only miss 1 time (or maybe two times) because he first gets a few pulses blindness and removes all blindness with his attack.
If there is an enemy that attacks twice a second, he’ll miss once each second and hit you once each second, because blindness gets renewed only once a second.
PS: 5 enemies is the max amount. If you only have 2-3 in it, it’s fine too, isn’kitten
But usually, if you have many mobs, you should use something like dagger/dagger. Pistols are more useful for a single heavy mob.
Interesting thoughts. The only thing I figured out myself before was that he/she most likely is a human, since his only appearance was in Divinity’s Reach and he mostly contacts us when there’s something up there (like at the start of “Pary Politics”, iirc).
Would be great if HoM would have some, well, side-quests or anything, regarding some white mantle activities in the jungle. Maybe we’ll meet E there, too (well, maybe only in written form…)
I’m really sorry, but there are like ten threads about that matter of people who just didn’t log in in this time frames.
I’d give you the tip: Just read the answers in those threads – it wouldn’t make sense to type it all again. Most guys eventually got the reason why it’s actually not unfair.
1.) No, not really. There are easier classes, like warrior or ranger, and well, more complicated classes, like eles and engineers. If you are completely new to MMOs, you shouldn’t start with a complicated one, even though they can be the most rewarding.
(To be honest, I started with an ele and it’s the best decision I made. The start was horrible, but now that I’m fully max-geared, I’m nearly omnipotent and ready for every situation, while other classes can have slight problems in certain níche situations. Guess it’s completely up to you.)
2.) Good question. Ele is complicated, as stated above, but later definitely fun to play. Necros are not very popular in endgame, but in fact, a minion master with some condition gear can do most PvE single player stuff quite well. Mesmers are the only class I don’t know that much about, but I guess new players can definitely use them, even though it will take some time til they get in full control of all the class mechanics.
3.) All in all, I’d say: Take what you like most, there’s nothing as a “bad class”, even though many people dislike necros and rangers. Simply try them out, if you like their feeling, keep them, if not, simply delete them and try something else
Well, you can glasscannon most bosses, because you can predict how they react. You can dodge their few attacks and deal as much damage as possible. In PvE, enemies don’t stay in AoEs, they don’t always use the same attack pattern… tankier guys would just stomp glasscannons. That’s why condis etc. work so much better in PvP, they are “glued” to an enemy and he can’t simply take a step out of it (that’s why condi removal is so important) and so on. It’s much more diverse and so, imo, kinda funnier.
I guess they’re talking about Plate of Truffle Steak
Orrian Truffle is one of the ingredients.
Really the are you sure isn’t good enough?
Why don’t you have us type in the name backwards with no a’s and replaceing o’s with 1’s and ….
Sorry, don’t get it. Who do you mean?
I can delete rare and exotic weapon and armor without typing the names. I just have that extra dialogue box where I have to click “yes”. Actually typing the name is only necessary for very rare (or unique) items.
Okay, so… LS S2, Episode 4 brought us the Challenger Cliffs. There was a cave on the west part of the surrounding mountains, guarded by many mordrem and blocked by vines. Inside, you can see some veteran mordrem mobs and some planty thing.
Is there anything happening? Ever? What do you think, is this cave in any way important?
I just have two thoughts going on in my mind:
a) It could open when HoM is out and lead to Verdant Brink
b) As you can see on the Historical Guide to Tyria, it’s directly above Ventari’s Refuge… maybe it’s the cave where Ventari found the Pale Tree seed? Okay, it’s not very likely, but whatever xP
… what is a master level?
Well, there are only quite a few items that require to type their names. The only ones I constantly get (and delete) are the Mawdrey parts from LS S2, but that are just 3 or 4 per char.
For what do you need it? As far as I know you can’t get it back, maybe support can help though.
You can’t do that achievement on the first try of a character – you first have to play through the whole episode with that char and then return to that mission.
(That’s only true for some achievements, some can completed on the first try. I don’t really know why it is that way.)
No, I meant, which season 2 items would you wish to see there?
Titles are rewards for achievements, and achievements are account wide. You can’t “lose” a title or an achievement for any reason (eg collections: you keep the collections and every progress on it, even when you delete the collection items)
You can already start with the first two “legendary ingedrients”, they’re the same for every legendary weapon. Only the 3rd one and the precursor differ. I don’t think they will change that pattern with the new legendaries.
I’d definitely wait, because the actual greatswords are way too popular, I’m just not excited anymore if I see another dusk or two in a pug group.
What items should that be? I’d like to know that.
I don’t think that it will treated equally, because S2 is permanent, so there’s no need to wrap something up for laurels if there’s another way to get it.
Anet definitely care about player’s opinion.
The text is about, well, lets take an example: Player A thinks that skill B is overpowered and starts a forum thread about it. Anet guys look into their data and see: B is not overpowered, A just thought so for some reasons (eg, A just saw the raw damage output and not the long cooldown time, or some more complicated inside funcionality like connection to traits, type of combo field, effectiveness under certain conditions etc).
You simply won’t be able to equip it. If you want so, you have to transmute another skin on it before placing it on the bank.
edit: too late <_<
Sales are kinda irregular, so you can’t really tell when the next one is going to be.
I think somewhere on the wiki there’s a list of all former sales. Maybe you can get some information about the average time between sales outa there.
Well, as you said, shields aren’t always the best choice… but if I had to pick one, I’d take the warrior, because the guardian shield skills are kinda boring imo.
But… when you bought it… you knew that you would have to pay 60€, doesn’t you? So it was worth 60€ for you. Of course its unlucky that this sale started so early after you bought it, but that’s the point of sales, isn’kitten
If you buy a jeans or somthing for 30€ and the next day it’s reduced to 20, you can’t get the 10€ back, thats just logical.
Well, I get the stats through crafting and nice colors through some lucky drops at Tequatl & co (love celestial color for my mesmer!)
Of course it would be nicer if you could simply pick the color you like, but I guess they had something in mind when they gave the weapons different colors…
As far as I know, HoM will at least change the way traits will be handled / unlocked.
Many other things should get an update, too… at least the skillpoint/vista thingies.
I’d love a mini Zhaitan.
a) it would be sooo big, because even the mini version of it would most likely be bigger than the average asura
b) there could be plenty of cool ways to get it – maybe some Zhaitan dedicated collection or something (or after killing him on 8 chars, gosh…)
Most likely the boss fight will be in a normal story instance, neither a world boss nor a dungeon boss.
But as far as I know, it’s still not official if we already get to fight him directly, is it?
we fought zhaitan?
Well yes?
By the way, if you really really want the medium one (and the support won’t give you another chance), you can buy it in the gem store for 500 gems.
1G + 10S spoon + karma + greens and yellows isn’t nothing for those ~15min
When I finished my 100 interrupts, I was at around 40 victories.
I think I did about 60-70 games in total.
No offence, but it’s a tactical game. If you know what upgrade brings you what power and in which order they spawn, you can grab the most important ones directly at the start.
I don’t know how much you played, but I guess not more than 2-3 games a day.
You can still get skill points in the open world and scrolls and everything. Maybe the needed amounts get a nerf, but who knows.
Did I get it right – the “fractals” mastery line is still kind of censored? Or is that the actual description? oo
Also, what’s about those “exalted”? Another name or placeholder for Mursaat? Or is it in fact a different species/a special group of Mursaat (maybe the “good” ones, lol)?
