Enough with the stealth spam already, this garbage needs to be nerfed once and for all. It is absolutely ridiculous that in a competitive game mode anyone can go invisible basically permanently, and go back into stealth as soon as they go come out of it.

Make Reveal take effect anytime you leave stealth, regardless of whether you attack. Maybe then this garbage can be somewhat balanced.

Will we be able to withdraw runes from legendary armor freely? If not, will there be any sort of other system in place to deal with this problem? Or will the runes be in the same situation that sigils are in…? The biggest reason I’m going for legendary armor is for the stat-swapping. It’s going to be absolutely pointless if I have to buy new runes every time I want to stat-swap.

Stealth has been the same since the launch of the game. Trailblazers and dire have been added somewhat recently.

Dire been on the game just as long as stealth. It was just harder to obtain prior they removed the Magic Find gear and added Dire on it’s place to the CoE Dungeon rewards (which also was several years ago).

Trailblazer yeah, that came with HoT.

Well, it was so hard to obtain that I didn’t even know it existed. That’s just my experience, though. In wvw, condis have been running rampant as being dominant builds in roaming, havoc, or anything that isn’t zerging ever since trailblazers/dire had become readily accessible. And there have been far more topics created about that in the past 2 years than there has been about stealth.

Like, this thread is so laughable that I know that I actually don’t need to reply to any of this. I already know with certainty that stealth will not be changed/redone in the future. Stealth breaks absolutely nothing in this game. Unless it’s your ego, because you can’t l2p. That’s different, then. Seeing a thread like this invokes nostalgia in me, and I guess I’m only replying because I actually feel bad for anyone who thinks stealth is broken.

And BELIEVE me, check my history if you want, I used to absolutely hate thieves/stealth around 2 years ago. I thought it was absurdly broken. It’s not now, with the addition of an array of skills that add reveal.

TL;DR: If someone is going to assert that stealth is broken, but then also defends trailblazer/dire gear, they are not experienced at this game yet. It’s a l2p issue.

Besides, even if stealth is nerfed/redone/whatever, you and all the other newer players are just going to complain about the unlimited dodges from acro thieves or the superior mobility from shortbow.

I’ve been checking out some comments in this thread and will have some replies soon, but I just wanted to make some players aware that the reason wvw and spvp have been such a mess since launch is because… (and I will paraphrase a developer here)… “balancing for all the game modes will add a lot of overhead to balance patches”…

So, all the funky and silly stuff we see happening in competitive games modes is not because that’s what the devs intended, it’s because the top is not giving the devs a green light to properly work on professions and combat for pvp modes…

Some of y’all might just keep defending away after reading this, but realize you are defending game designs that have been intentionally ignored and neglected.

Edit- and to be fair… only after 4 years have the devs started to make separate skill balances for spvp only, not wvw.

We have a number of skill splits (and some global changes) that will be accompanying the launch of Season 5 next week. Read on to see what’s in store for December 13.

Over the past few releases the PvP team has been working closely with the Skills team to implement some PvP-only skill splits. Moving forward the PvP team will have more opportunity to make these skill splits as we see fit. It’s important to understand that skill splits should not change the core functionality of a skill. Players should be able to use a skill in PvE and have it do relatively the same thing in PvP, though it may be more or less effective depending on the game mode. This means that when we are looking to split out a skill, the changes are limited to the following areas:

  • Recharge
  • Damage multipliers
  • Healing multipliers
  • Number of conditions/boons applied
  • Duration of conditions/boons applied
  • Skill cost (energy and initiative)

A lot can be done with these knobs, but there still will be cases where we identify a problem skill or trait that we feel cannot be addressed without a functional change. In these cases, we are continuing to work closely with the Skills team to find a solution that makes the most sense as a global change.

Now on to the changes! Note that all changes listed are global changes except for those that are designated as “PvP only.”

I have video of a fight where I take 13k!!! ticks of condi. I immediately start casting my heal (only clears 2 condis ’cause lol engi, but gotta try, right?). My heal is 75% of the way through casting when I take the second tick and die.

13k ticks would be the work of 5 or so sources in most cases.

Do you realize how hard 5 or power classes would hit you?

You can see power damage coming and dodge or block it (with the exception of insta-teleport thief steal+venom combos). You can’t be constantly clicking on allies to see which have conditions on them. Furthermore, it’s very difficult to tell when one near you is being epi’d and whether you’ll take a few conditions and not care, or take 13k ticks and die instantly.

the initial condi applications can often be avoided.

It’s certainly true to some extent you don’t know how hard the epi bounce is going to hit. However, 13k ticks are either coming from siege/lord, or, from multiple epi bounces. Possibly both.

Again.. it’s ultimately an L2P issue.

The initial condi applications can indeed be avoided, but in wvw there is a 99% chance there is a noob pug inside a 600 radius to you. 600 units is absurdly large, and having it be unblockable is icing on the cake. You are only as good as the worst player within 600 units of you is when it comes to epidemic.

Meteor shower? Walk out of it. Epidemic? Clea- nvm you’re already dead and so are 4 other people near you.. It’s an over-performing skill, and I don’t personally want to see it viscerally gutted, but it needs some small shaving done.

The OP asserted that rising through the tiers on an alt disproves “elo hell.” This is not a “valid” argument ( in the logic sense of the word ) because the OP is not a suitable subject for the experiment.

It would be much more impressive if a more typical player were able to do the same.

You’re wrong. Helseth is a legendary player. The system placed him where he belongs. Your typical player is not legendary, and shouldn’t be in legendary. Your typical player is in gold/silver. That’s where most people belong, and coincidentally, that’s where they are.

If you stack many conditions on someone in downstate there will be a high chance the target dies before epidemic hits.
If you stack too many conditions on a living target it ends up in downstate before epidemic hit and you spread nothing.

No, not ‘’this 100%’’. You can stack absurd amounts of condis on someone thanks to an abundance of resistance in the game.

Yea, and imagine a skill that redirected all power damage from the target to all nearby allies in a 600 radius for 10 seconds. (also unblockable.)

Yea, apples to oranges, right? Also now imagine that these power classes can now stack toughness and vitality along with the same power damage. Wow, now we’re getting somewhere!

The condition bombs aren’t the problem, and no one is saying they’re the problem. The problem we’re talking about is the fact that you can condition bomb someone and make 5 other people around him pay for it as well. (It needs some toning down. Having a skill like that is ok, it just needs some shaving.)

Title says it all. The reason the range seems so ridiculous is because its animation makes it look like it should only hit with in 180 or so. The range isn’t even ridiculous though, it’s the absurd lack of animation for it. It’s the reason meteor shower was nerfed, it’s the reason why acid bomb should be nerfed, so please let’s get some sort of fix for this. Yea?..

Staff just can’t compete at a higher level. You can’t do it. It’s for the same reason that offhand dagger can’t compete at a higher level, either. A good d/p thief is always going to win against a good staff thief. This is not because a d/p thief has stealth, but simply because a staff thief is severely limited by it’s main source of damage which is Vault. Staff can’t interrupt, staff can’t reliably hit vault, staff can’t do a lot of things that d/p CAN do. And SB cleave is on the same level as staff cleave, so why take it if SB has superior mobility?

PROS:
Extra mobility to decap

CONS:
little to no offense
No pulmonary impact
cant interrupt
kills initiative bad when you have to swap after you get decap

That’s just far too incorrect.

PROS:
-Superior mobility to everything else in the game. (Let’s also not forget all the shadowstep spots in the game that further increase mobility.)
-AoE unblockable poison for downed cleave.
-Moderate AoE damage cleave with cluster bomb.
-On demand evade with little initiative.
-Ranged option for misc circumstances.

CONS:
-Can’t use headshot. (But can still steal with sleight of hand.)

Show me a coordinated epi bomb that wins a gvg against a decent guild.
All I ever see is uncoordinated pug groups getting instant downed by a 4 necro 10 man group. Any decent 10 man can instant down pug groups.
Guild groups kill pug groups… this is not new…

You’re really missing the point though. Its damage is exponential, which is a very bad thing for this game. And of course a guild group is going to easily kill pug groups, that’s not the point though. It’s how easy they can do it which is the problem. If you want good rewards from gameplay, you should do something that requires a little more skill than spamming epi. It’s way too strong.

It’s 1 skill that is killing 5-10 people every cast and bounce. It’s the same reason meteor-nado was nerfed.

There is a pretty easy counter play. You need 2 things. Game awereness and condi cleanse.
A stun breaker could be usefull but I assume every decent build would have at least 1 .
Trapper thieves also have to 100% commit into the aggression so it balances things out.

Time to act. All fair minded players need to support this initiative. For too long have these professions kept the others down with their op kitten.

Thief = way too much sustain and evasion for the mad dps. It warps the game and is way too good.

My proposals:
Reduce pulmonary impact damage by 25%. Passive dps should not be so good when thief has a spammable insta cast ranged interrupt. Like really…

This is the most dumb idea I’ve seen on the forums in a long time. ‘Like really.’ What you want to be nerfed isn’t pulmonary impact, but it is the ricidulous amount of dodges a staff thief or acro thief has. Remove the evade frame on #3 for staff, and nerf acrobatics, and now we are getting somewhere. I mean, do you really want this to be bunker wars 2? And speak for yourself, next time please.

Tell me, how do you practice 5v5 Conquest in WvW?

Game Knowledge means you understand the nuances of the game mode, not just the basics.

That means:
• common build’s, their strengths/weaknesses, and how to prioritize them as a threat
• common team compositions, their strengths/weaknesses, and how to counter them
• map mechanics, strategies, and how to prioritize movements
• the ability to read the map and make a tactical choice even when you’re in the middle of a fight

It’s basically all the stuff your teammates are yelling at you about when you start making huge mistakes and throwing the match.

It’s very simple. Mechanics are very hard to learn. Learning how conquest is played can be picked up very quickly compared to mechanics.

You can’t win the game without these things. You don’t learn them anywhere else.

Bullkitten. Not only is it very easy to pick up, but I’ve spent hours outside of the game watching streams of top rated players to see what they do both mechanically, but most importantly, what they do within the conquest game mode.

That’s bullkitten. Game experience = game knowledge. Game knowledge is crucial in PvP.

But I roamed and did small scale things in wvw for most of my time in gw2. This is my first season that I’ve actually participated in, and I only have 600 games played. (Ranked+unranked.) I’m rank 212 right now (1,762 rating) with about 200 ranked games played this season. What does that tell you?

(I’ll answer that for you. Game experience can be earned in places outside of spvp, therefore improving someones rating because of time spent in spvp will make ratings more in-accurate!)

Season 5 is the best season to date. Balance still needs a few tweaks, but that’s an ever changing process. Balance tbh is the best it ever has been though. Standard thief meta is dd-trickery-DA. d/p with channeled vigor, agility sig, blinding powder, shadowstep, basi.

Winning at 60% means you’re ALLLMOST at where you belong.

If you start winning more you’ll advance a lot faster but you won’t get more points. You’ll just defy the expectation of the MMR.

Your wording “where you belong” reminds me extremely strong of the Indian caste system. The people locked up in this system cannot break out of it in order to go up in the world. If the rating system really is as you described (without any possibility to ascend, after a certain point is reached), then it’s – in my opinion – just as bad as the caste system in India is, which would be rather immoral and shouldn’t be existing like this.

But really, as far as spvp is concerned, solo/duo q is one the best changes ranked has ever seen. People absolutely hate being stuck in a certain spot, it’s human nature to dislike that. I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’m not the best player in gw2. (Who knew.) My wins and losses are about 50/50, but my rating seems to be dipping in and out of platinum and gold 3.

People don’t want to hear what I’m about to say: If you’re stuck in a certain place, that’s probably where your skill level in spvp resides. I’m going to look and think outside the box over the next few days, maybe record some games and look for my mistakes. I’ll be doing all that while someone who is pushing far while being +2’d is yelling at me as to why I didn’t revive him. ;D Then he’ll come to the forums and complain about how kittenty this rating system is. But really, these changes are quality.

The problem, if there even is one, does not lie with d/p weapon skills. Those are fine. It’s the absurdly strong traits that lie with all of the classes, including thief. DD and acro are beyond a little broken right now, but they shouldn’t be touched unless other broken traits for other classes get touched as well. That’s never going to happen, so learn to adapt.

Epidemic isn’t broken or overpowered. It has force-multiplier effect. The skill itself is the same as it’s been for the last 3 years at least.

A skill can become very powerful due to other aspects of the game that have seen a lot of changes, I think we both know that. But you can’t really use that fact to write it off as something that shouldn’t receive any scrutiny. That’s just an illogical way to address a problem.

That said, I’m not sure why you 1) want to remove a counter to boonspam and 2) punish coordinated play.

There are plenty of other counters to boonspam. And a small nerf to epidemic will not render it useless to boonspam. Don’t over-inflate things.

Also, if we didn’t ever nerf things on the basis that it would ‘punish coordinated play’, then nothing would ever get nerfed. Every single skill in this game is involved in coordinated play. Again, the problem with epidemic is that it is exponentially dangerous, which is something I’m okay with having in the game. Consider some of the other suggestions which were to give epidemic a more obvious animation so that it could be avoided a bit easier if someone were paying attention. (Aka rewarding skilled play, punishing mindless spam of one of the most hardest hitting skills in the game.)

Eh. Luck can be involved, but most of the time it isn’t. It’s an over-performing skill, that’s all.

And really, you’re barking up the wrong tree. Your issue isn’t Epidemic (which hasn’t seen any momentous changes in the last 3-4 years); it’s the way conditions work.

No, I’m definitely barking up the right tree here. Anet has made it abundantly clear that conditions are going to be a very large part of pvp. There’s no changing that. Bye bye power-meta. (It’s been bye bye for a long time.) That being said, I’m not asking for epidemic to be deleted, only slightly altered or changed in some sort of way. It just over-performs at the moment.

I might just be lucky, but I’ve gotten like 5 ascended weapons and maybe 14 or so ascended armor drops just from the wvw track loot. I play maybe 2-3 hours a night, 5 nights a week maybe. shrugs

Over all there needs to be something on the person who getting epidemic castes on to have a tell that this is getting cast on them. That the problems with GW2 in wvw and spvp that you can hid your tells way too easy though stealth skins and size killing the ability to dodge. I say add a “death” effect over the person head when they are getting an epidemic cast on them.

I would very much welcome a change like that! Almost no changes to the skill itself, and still providing some counter play to it.

Probably thief, because you can use shortbow #5 and then hop into the suit to be teleported. Tbh, it’s a glitch anyways. Other than that, there’s no specific class/profession that would help you with being in a golem. If there are any traits that do work, they aren’t working as intended, and I don’t really know of any.

You are correct, I do not want them disabled at the moment because I feel their effects on combat are entirely negligible. Obviously you are of a different mind, but that’s fine.

People tell dodge skill that cast time is 0.3 sec, but they can’t dodge epidemic that cast time is 1 sec.

Apples and oranges for sure. Epidemic is far less noticeable than a warrior in berserk mode shooting gunflame.

Well, no. He said I had no idea how skilled fights work if I said Koda Tonics are ok, which means that I’m bad and he seems to be of the mind that Kodan Tonics are a grievous exploit that I’m constantly using.

Not exactly ad hominem, but I’ll throw you a bone and admit that I don’t respect you, and that the sentence I made didn’t necessarily come from a friendly place. Whatever.

But yea, I’ll say that if you’re using koda tonics knowingly aware of what they do (no dodge animations, limited combat animations) then you’re being disingenuous. Asserting that you indeed want the dodge animations to be fixed doesn’t wash away the fact that you abuse them to some degree.

I’m not going to call it a flat out exploit, because I agree somewhat that it is not absolutely game-breaking.

No. and I never said that I was. That’s you making a sarcastic insult. The reason I turned off all the voiceovers is they’re annoying in combat when there’s a hectic fight going on and I need to be focus.

I’m telling you that’s false because you do not represent how others play the game. You can ignore voice overs, that’s totally fine. I’m not judging you for that. I’m judging you for saying that a lack of voice overs doesn’t affect anyone elses combat. That’s absolutely false, and there’s really nothing you can say to make it true unless you conduct empirical research on the impact of voice overs/shouts in gw2 pvp.

I was saying that relying on assistance from something that might not even happen is RNG. I find the voicelines superfluous, oh well. A good player also wouldn’t bother with things that annoy him/her.

I just really think there is a huge difference between solely relying on a single mechanic and reacting to an extra mechanic among many others. The way you word it makes me want to make a strawman. So, I suppose the best way to answer that is to say, ‘Yes. I take in as much information as possible and react accordingly. Whats your point?’

I made a ranger (since you had mentioned it in another post), went to PvP and put on my Kodan Tonic. The only shout that I couldn’t get to voice was ‘Guard!’ which didn’t work when I was a charr either, maybe that’s a charr thing though. I also let myself get dunked on by the npcs to proc some voicelines and they seemed to work fine. The only one that didn’t proc was the chill voiceline.

Well, the shouts don’t seem to be shouting for me. (I’m a human female ranger.) Maybe there is some disparity in the races/genders. More testing required.

No dodge animations, some voice overs, some shouts depending on race/gender. (maybe.)
Just disable the tonics until all the bugs are fixed. I like the koda tonic too, don’t get me wrong. But you can go for a month or 2 until the tonics have been bug-fixed. I think you’ll be okay. Really, the lack of dodge animations alone really should be enough to warrant a disable until fixed. And you don’t want them disabled at the moment, do you? Am I getting that right? Wrong? Clarify that for me.

You probably should have elaborated on how koda tonics allow players to bypass blocks/reflects.

I’m going to hazard a guess tho, koda tonics make it difficult to see when a warrior uses might signet which makes their attacks unblockable and you just didn’t notice.

Also I got shot by a kodan bear rifle warrior through my guardian’s shield 5 bubble that was supposed to absorb projectile

Then they were using signet of might to pierce your bubble, unless you have video proof of the “kodan” warrior not having the unblockable buff and still piercing your bubble. Otherwise the tonic is not bugged and there is no exploit being abused.

this can easily be tested if you have a warrior friend run kodan bear tonic then headshot a guardian without unblockable signet and see if it is blocked or not.

Dunno if you looked at Wirriam’s gif up above but he already showed it’s not bugged. People want to blame other things on their poor play.

Look, I’m not really sure what the op is actually talking about, and he really does need to elaborate, but if you’re honestly going to sit here and proclaim that koda tonics aren’t a problem then you really have no idea how skilled fights work. This entire game’s combat is reaction based, and the koda tonic hides quite a bit of animations. It’s similar to the Asura argument, but asuran animations are just hard to see. There are some animations that simply don’t even register with kodan tonics. Take them out until they are fixed.

Because you’re watching a single person among 50 spamming 1 and you’re waiting to only dodge his attack?

That’s pretty misleading and quite presumptuous of the circumstances that can exist in wvw.

1: Not everyone is zerging in wvw. Some of us do that ‘roaming’ thing, or ‘havoc’. Whatever that is called anymore, I don’t know.

2: Even in zerging, it’s a great idea to focus those necros because epidemic is the meta. Not being able to count dodges on someone severely hinders your ability to kill them.
