Don’t get me wrong I’ve been playing a long time but still, $50 is a lot of money to just throw around for some new skills

Kitten, now you make me have to play the role of supporter and I am irritated at some recent changes.

You say you have been playing for a long time, so how long? Take that and divide the number of hours playing by the 50. Now, compare that to any consumable that you use today. Did you get that much value from a single soda? One packet of sugar?

Compare apples to apples..a XBX1 or PS4 game that provides only 8 hours of materials runs 60 dollars.

How many hours of work did the upgrade cost you versus the time you spent in game?

How much would have a game with a sub cost you based on your on GW2 play time?

Food for thought…

I admit, when HoT was first out I thought I agreed. But I had a second account that was un-upgraded. So I started playing my 2nd account at times, but with knowledge of my first account. I found that a number of the base accounts could beat their HoT counterparts, it came back to understand the upgraded account’s abilities versus the un-upgraded ones. So is Hot an auto-win in my book now, no. Does it have better synergy at times, yes, and therefore skill cap is lowered. Good hunting!

Chill - Leave as Separate Condition

There are already a number of abilities and options on the Necro that stack bleed. Since the current version of chill damage was considered too high, is there not a middle ground for it to exist in. Example the two extremes are burn and bleed. Short/high period burst versus long and low. Could chill not have been changed to that medium range that neither fills? Moderate damage per tick for moderate time damage? Also to better balance it could chill across the board not have been given some base damage applied to it regardless of class, where as the necro trait would have just been a modifier?

Sorry OP but I am the opposite side, I think it was a bad move to add in the older Weapon skins as a direct drop. They immediately trashed the market on those lines and made gathering keys (story-line/gold-swap/cash) questionable and thereby less desirable by itself. Maybe they are really are trying to help us all not gamble moving forward.

Side note: drop rates were increased. Opened 250 last night. 5 full tickets, 127 scraps, 6 Bath skins, 2 Chaos skins. The drop rate on the skins is wayyyyy to high. Dropping the value of skins in this way is not a good idea long term. Bring them back as extended ticket prices sure, add them to high end boss loot as ultra rare drops, sure. Make them ultra rare in chests ok, but right now they drop more often then full tickets. But you can just look at the trading history on these lines to see you now just crashed their value and it makes people question why gamble moving forward.

Provisioner sells level 70 consumables

The new WvW Provisioner sells consumables for badges. I thought this is brilliant; no more feeding them PvE farmers by buying stuff at Trading Post. Unfortunately the consumables at WvW Provisioner are only level 70.

Why not level 80 that WvW players would actually use?

Making them 80 would have been over the top. 70 is a nice balance since you still want to reward people that take the time to craft the items themselves but you can also allow a WvWer to get a pretty good item without ever crafting.

Do both PvP and WvW. Since they are using the reward tracks (thank you for the reward tracks option) from PvP, yes plan on a lot. Think I have 1500 in the bank now. Very sad the day they nerfed the key runs, that really should have become a once a day thing versus once a week.

The CD increase was reasonable. 600 is over the top. Agree 900-1000 would make more sense and still leave this as a reasonably good ability. At 600, not sure it will make the cut over another ability which is a shame since it was nice to allow the ranger a pretty solid spot for support.

With the advent of the new fractal daily achievement system the old daily chests of the adept/veteran/champion seem to be gone.

This somehow feels to me like the rewards have been nerfed. So far I have seen no complaints about it whatsoever, which leads me to believe that i am somehow missing the bigger picture or the chests being handed out now are better than i give them credit for.

The new system might end up being better. The rewards stack based on difficulty. So for example the daily yesterday was Cliffside. You had a Tier1 reward, Tier2, 3 and 4. If you ran the T4 Cliffside then you received the kitten,T3 & T4 reward chests from just the one run. We ran the T3 since people needed that level and therefore after 1 run each of us got 3 chests.

What about ascended equipment and the level tomes?
Can someone enlighten me?

We ran just one last night as a test and since people had limited time. That said of the 5 people getting chests (3 each because of the new rewards), one contained an ascended armor box and another got an ascended weapons box. Small sample size but…

That’s one things I really like about the game, is the constant reminders of things that changed. I appreciate the fact that littered around the world are the probing device remains that Scarlet planted as well as remnants of the toxic spores in Kessex. That’s why Scarlet also should be remembered. Course I am biased and liked Scarlet even as she was causing us grief. Was still hoping in the end to take her in on the team kind of like how Canach joined up. Still remember the Scarlet invasions and heading to the zones under assault. And of course the quotes, “Sorry about all the death! <giggles>”.

Good hunting and here’s another vote for Scarlet to return as a Mist Hero in Stronghold.

Delight us with new content, sure. Not knowing that something was fixed or a new QoL option was added, not so much. Also helps to ID bugs or create less false alarms when people think something is bugged because it not behaves differently.

Plus notes help players disseminate information in game faster as well and give them a reference point to assist others.

ANet, if possible would recommend going big with the patch notes for this update. The tendency is to touch upon the core bullet points and then leave the rest for people to find. Since you are heading in a new release cycle don’t follow that pattern. Give the players base more details so that they can better appreciate the time you spent and they are left with the feeling that quarterly updates are large scale development cycles that they should be excited for. Overtime some of the best QoL changes have been things that didn’t even appear in notes but people really appreciated. Don’t short change yourself. I know programmers are not always the best at documenting (they would prefer to be creating versus noting things) but more notes the better.

I think somewhere that somebody got this idea and they think this will help them only get highly skilled players on their team and they think the players currently in their division don’t deserve to be there.

I can answer that one.

In a competitive sense, where have you ever encountered a system that only allows you to go up? If a system does not allow for corrections how is it to balance games. If we end up with a larger portion of the population in the higher tiers then this is grind based. Or do you disagree?

I think we have multiple camps here. People in it for the reward, people in it for the competition, and people in it for the progress. The issue here is these conflict.

Progress is already covered by rank, people can grind to rank 80 over time. We already had this metric in game, we were missing skill versus time.

The reward bit should have been tied to reward tracks. Create things that people want and they want to be able to achieve them. I don’t like the wings but others will want them and if they are tied to progress they will request it have safeguards, which means its the same as rank, which we have.

What we didn’t have was skill versus time. To have a system like this you need to be able to lose. No one likes to, but if not its the same as rank. And anyone can grind out rank today.

Now I am not saying there isn’t issues with match making, but I am saying that the system today does not allow for adjustments down and if it doesn’t then division means nothing but grind.

Edit: and if I am mis-interpreting Nightshade I apologize, but facts remain about differences in groups.

I think I was in this match. Statement was not phrased in a way that encouraged action. It wasn’t just one player but two of the team that went and sat on home from the start. Never moved. They were even telling the other team that the way was clear for a lord kill. Other team left them alone since they now had a 3v5 or more every where else. The two thieves were rotating well. Funny thing is after a few of the encounters I think this would have been a solid win if it wasn’t 3v5.

A little courtesy might have gone over better and wouldn’t have costed anything so why not try that way first.

They gave us account wide inventory slots. I’m happy. For now.

Yes… 5 @ 2800 gems or 1 @ 700 gems. Even on sale you were still talking about 500 gems for one slot. I’m glad that it made you happy. To me it seemed like a cash grab.

To your first idea +1, having more bag space is never a bad idea.

Also would have preferred more shared inventory spots, but these ideas are not mutually exclusive so can +1 both.

I will play devil’s advocate on the price of the shared ones. Think about it this way:

5 @ 2800, that’s fixed cost.

Now I am a light alt-o-holic so I only have 16 toons. Those 5 slots = 80 inventory slots for me since it could free up space for things they all carried, example zone keys, WvW siege blueprints. At 20 pack bags, that’s 1600 gems right there.

Now that shared spot could also mean a savings of:

  • 16000 gems if I got each one their own Royal Terrace Pass (1000)
  • 12800 gems if I got each one a Copper Fed Salvage-amatic (800)
  • 16000 gems if I got each one a Silver Feed Salvage-amatic. (1000)

So 2800 compared to 44800 plus the bag space of 1600, 46600. So that 2800 is saved each time a player would have bought another set of the 3 tools above, which might have been where the price came from.

Now you might say why would people buy multiples of the above, a lot of people did. I also know people that share their unlimited gathering tools so that could have been part of the savings as well but wanted to leave it to things that people leave in their backpacks versus equip. Anyway, good gaming.

I am wondering if the right mix is something like an adjusted S2 match making with logic from S1’s scoring that awards based on performance. Now granted if matching making is refined further that might not be needed but if you don’t have some logic to account for performance then you end up with people giving up since a 500-0 is the same as a 500-499.

I think DBL would make a good three sided EB style map. A structure in the middle to fight over would be a good touch. Top server gets Earth, second ranked server gets Fire and third gets Air. But I am biased since I would still like to see 4 distinct maps to fight over that are all three sided maps versus the borderland concept. More variety the better.

No, would prefer that WvW gear remains as we have today. With that said we should be able to acquire more gear or supplies for gear from inside of WvW. Be that by more Ascended drops or WvW currency that could be used to purchase gear or other avenues. Same with Legendary armor. There should be a mechanism to allow people to acquire that inside of WvW since gear does make a difference in this play mode.

Agree, take a quick break. Been were you were and understand that. Use to be worse when you spent a pile of time and funds on upgrading a structure just to have a zerg come and wipe it out while you asked TS for back up that never came. Sometimes that was the right call, and sometimes it wasn’t.

Your actions do matter but they have to matter to you before they matter to others else you will be left with that all is vain feeling. Secondly you need to re-find what you find fun. If you are doing an action because you feel it needs done but it isn’t entertaining then step away, this isn’t a job for you, don’t let it become one. You have to find satisfaction in your actions else don’t do them.

And agree, try and find more people to hunt with, banter goes a long way out there. Good hunting!

So again, what is your plan for S3? I agree with the idea that you need to use solo queue to fill in when a pre-made is against less than equal numbers. That said S1 using that as basis for deciding who has odds and paying out accordingly made sense. S2’s win +1 lose -1 is abusive to the SoloQer. Again, we don’t have your stats to help suggest actions, but you have to realize that then leaves Solo peeps with bitter tastes saying WTF. Why was a 5 man group against a 2 man and 3 solo added in. Your slowly turning fans into critics.

I have yet to see a consistent case where EB does not have the majority of players on it. Even when ABL were in play. People have different theories on why that is , but I haven’t seen anyone dispute that one.

It was the playground of gvg guilds (serious play no gvg).

And still they couldn’t out queue EB. GvG is a third group all together. GvGers should go talk to Anet about bigger guild arenas, they had a whole custom area designed for them. If GvG is your whole issue then ask for that versus say kill this its not what I want. Ask ANet for a map without any objectives at all where people can just get PPK.

Nobody is arguing if WvW is dying or not. But none of us knows the actual cause, we can all guess but we could be all wrong.

I have argued against this already several times. The empty DBL is not the cause for less players, there would be less players no matter what kind of map is used. Empty BL maps just show us the reducing WvW population.

If match has enough WvW players for only 1 map, they all go to EB no matter if BL maps are good or bad. So the BL maps itself does not affect how many players play WvW. Players can say they don’t like the map design or how objectives are placed or what color the sand is. But none of this would matter if there would be enemies to fight, you simply would have no time to notice any of that, you would be busy fighting. You never go to WvW because you “like” the map.

The cause WvW is not interesting or fun, and players leave the game, is not map design and it can not be fixed by changing BL maps. The time and effort Anet is spending to replace the maps back, is all completely wasted.

The maps are not going to be silver bullets. And what some of us are saying is don’t steal from Peter to pay Paul. There are two sides here, one saying give us less options and force people into a way and the other saying give us more options and let us choose. Leave it with 4 maps, but make it 4 different maps not 2 maps, 1 having three exact copies.

Either way I would still expect more player decline. That is natural in games. Its up to ANet to agree and either roll up some servers or determine another way to mix the current populations together. No company likes to close servers but it happens over time. If you wait too long you further bleed population.

Anet has got the metrics and wvw is dying all around since HoT – so I guess the assumption that “we” don’t want DBL is accurate.
They also have the metrics how many people play EotM and WvW and I guess that again shows that WvW players don’t want EotM.
You don’t need to be on the forums to have a voice.

What we don’t have is the normal rate of decay and I don’t think any players captured that prior to HoT. Another I would love to see from ANet was EB vs borderland stats from before, I can only state what I experienced. As far as ANet metrics, not sure they have shared any. Would love to see them but from a pure geeky curiosity, but it would be a bad business practice for them to do so. Which leaves all of us speculating. If you have a link, please do share.

The absolut majority of WvW players have already voted. They don’t want Desert Border or EotM or any other map in that style. They want a map were fighting is possible without gimmicks and stupid environmental effects.

Actually no, we had less than 1 servers population voice up since there was nothing posted in game. Unless we think there are less than 600 people playing WvW in total. And if that’s the case we might want to close up some of those servers and merge into 3. So you want to start up a server merge thread, see you there.

WvW ranks effectively means nothing in regards to fighting. Its how long have you grinded a game mode. Unless people can lose ranks, its meaningless for the most part.

I have a dream: a reworked eotm (less edges and pve) which would function as “borderland”, with DBL as 2nd BL and Alpine BL as third BL and, of course, EBG.

Concur, said it before, saying it again.

WvW: 1 EB, 1 EoTM, 1 ABL (three-sided design), 1 DBL (three-sided design).

What does this do:

  • Gives people that like flat maps, 2 maps
  • Gives people that like chokes and edges, 2 maps
  • Rolls EoTM into WvW for scoring and population
  • Doesn’t please any one side completely, meaning a little for all but not all for 1
  • Adds variety for people to choose from as far as maps

Now how they handle EoTM as far as just your server versus all, that requires further discussion and if they end up rolling the servers up in some new system we hear about in a few weeks or if they consolidate servers.

Leaving the MMR hell out of it, they have already mentioned that they are adjusting the logic in other threads.

Information on some of the following might be good to understand:

  • Information on addressing the game pulling in more than ‘x’ amount of the same class when its full pug on pug.
  • How are they building base team makeups with Division/Tier and MMR.
  • Thoughts on close matches and scoring.
  • How pre-mades 2,3,4,5 will be matches and then solo’s used to fill in the gaps.
  • Logic on people being bolstered if their pre-made includes people of diverse levels.
  • Streak changes.
  • Performance outliers.

Just to name a few.

Sorry OP, no. I am all about trade in game and think there should be more items to buy and sell, but this isn’t something that can be traded. People need to play through the divisions, not be able to buy there way out of it.

It should be a competitive environment first. Before that it makes no sense to think about changing the pip system.

With the current system it’s neither competitive nor skill based very much. It heavily depends on luck how getting grouped together.

This is true, its even more compounded when people group up versus soloQ since the group players are at least mitigating some of their own risk of getting a badly comprised team makeup where as the soloQ have even worse odds. But we can hope that the MM algorithms being adjusted over time continue to improve.

Ok other than NOOOO are there any actual arguments against this? There is no correlation to skill in any of the tiers, so this has nothing to do with competition. You will get better matchups if we base it on MMR and remove the pip loss system.

Or do people here not want better match ups? Just want to be carried into a high league so you have a special marker next to your name?

We do want better match ups, but with the current system people can grind or be carried above the level they really should have capped out of leaving them and others that might be matched with them at a disadvantage. The safety nets in place act more like a catch all which can be even more frustrating if that last save point is above that player’s normal skill level. Don’t get me wrong, the match making in S2 still needs love and others have stated ways that it might work which sound closer to the original description that was made before the start of the season versus what we later discovered it does. To your own point, until the system can allow people to rise and fall and potentially award based on individual performance it can not be used as a gauge for skill.

Sorry OP but no. Actually want to see Division loss in all tiers above Amber and Tier loss added into lower levels as well. I will rage along with others but those changes are needed to allow people to filter to where they should be. This is challenging and meant to be so but with some of the safety nets in place its still not in the shape it needs to be. Not to mention I do believe that the better the system can sort people the better matches we will all get and the more people will improve. Its hard to improve in one sided blow out matches.

Concur, its more than likely the team bit. When you queued did it ask you if you were queueing as your team? If not then it isn’t registering your group as a team.

I like the old system as well to some points, but the new system is key architecture required to allow them to add new elites down the road.

See I wonder how even small changes might impact the class. Example, why do they not have a base run speed increase in the core class. They are meant to be bruisers so they should have the speed to get into the fight. That alone would remove the need to have to use a trait line and or runes that grant run speed and allow them more diversity in builds.

There are some valid points here as well.

Now granted I am on the side that there is something off in matching making at times, but this thread isn’t about that. The following does key off match making being adjusted from S2 to S3.

In order to have people balance out where they should be there should be a way for people to fall back thru divisions. It makes sense that people should be able to level down if needed to account for issues that might have raised them higher then their skill level accounts for. That way if you see someone in a higher tier odds are a bit better that they should be at that level. People should be able to fall back to Sapphire and Emerald should be able to lose tiers. I say this even as I am stubborn idiot and not taking match breaks when I should have as well at times to get out of a rut or let people I was being matched with get into other games.

The idea that individual performance should also be accounted for might be tricky since many people feel that the point system is still missing elements in personal scoring but that doesn’t mean it isn’t directional and might have some merit if adjusted. Issues like multiple people capping or zerging kills would have to be accounted for. Example, 2 people cap, personal score for cap is divided by 2. 3 people kill one enemy score divided by 3 and such.

But there are times where an outlier should have been additionally rewarded for their activities on their team pending their performance. This might also allow for people to more quickly move to a tier that is more appropriate for them. If I am having an off game, that doesn’t mean that Joe Pvper that did awesome shouldn’t be rewarded for their effort if they shined. What that point differential is would need to be determined based on numbers ANet is collecting throughout this season and potentially adjusted per season as the matching making algorithms are adjusted.

Season one’s system where close matches were sometimes rewarded also seems to have encouraged more people to fight to the end versus giving up since a 500 point lose was the same as a 1 point lose in the new season. Seeing something between the two for season 3 would be a great thing to have in place.

I think most agree either way that there are still more adjustments that could be made before the beginning of S3. Right now it still feels like ye who grinds the most makes the most. It would be nice to have a better confidence that people that made their rank and keep it truly earned it. Good hunting!

Yes, you like that, but that is why the majority of the players have always favored EBG, hell prior to DBL, many would not leave EBG due to indirect routes on ALPINE. LOL

If you want to know why it is popular, that is why.

Again we disagree, its popular because there are more people and more people because all sides are equal. Flat by itself does not cut it.

We will continue to disagree here. I don’t mind some flat areas, but I also want more challenging environment. I want to have to pay attention to my placement. I want that challenge of being mindful of where I am. I want to use the environment against my enemy. I don’t want he who has the biggest zerg auto-wins. I want chokes that are chokes and areas where a smaller force can challenge a larger one. I want a variety in my fights.
