Please don't scrap DBL

WvW was already losing people because it was stale. Scraping the DBL and putting back in the ABL would just re-introduce something people were already tired of. So you might just end up swapping people in and out. The DBL is not easy but that’s what makes it fun and different to the people that like it. All of those twists and chokes and bigger areas were what people were requesting as the population was in decline before HoT. Remember one of the biggest issues was how do you discourage zerging. ANet’s answer was to give us something meaty enough that you need to split up some to handle. Its funny over time as I watch more people really enjoy DBL over the other maps, sadly not all those people are forum goers so it masks the numbers.

I think the true answer here is something between the two that gives people a choice, if you force them down one path or another and you will lose more than you gain.

I am wondering if there is a middle ground around the various maps. I don’t think you can make everyone happy, nor do I think you can bring back everyone or keep everyone depending on the changes. That said is there a middle ground?

What if the 4 maps for WvW were:

1 EB – Each side has their starting third
1 EoTM – Each side again has its third, maybe flip 1st and 3rd servers starting locations
1 ABL – 3rd Place team hold Citadel and Home, 2nd place starts with Hills, 1st place- Bay
1 DBL – 2nd Place holds Earth, 3rd place Fire, 1st place Air

With this we have EB and ABL for the traditionalists, DBL and EoTM for people that prefer alternate terrain to fight on.

Or are people to opposed to one side or the other?

I think if you want a sampling of how many people like vertical maps, look to EoTM. One of the main reason people play on it is because the fights are more interesting. I think if you revert back to the alpine map you will see an increase in the number of people moving to EoTM. Add more fast travel options to the DBL, but don’t revert.

1. Add more abilities to spend WvW rank levels on, further depth in character development

  • Give players more abilities where they can customize their WvW role
  • Add levels to existing abilities and make them deeper
  • These do not need to be direct power creep abilities (see older posts)
  • It ok to reward players that spend more time in WvW

2. Structure map buffs & importance

  • Shrines were a good example where you have objectives that hold value for other objectives, would like to see more of that
  • Add map wide bonus for controlling towers
  • Allow further upgrades to sentries and allow them to further bulk up and act as roadblocks
  • Give shrines secondary bonuses when controlled but keep is not
  • Add control bonuses to EB, towers, NPC camps
  • Add DBL type sentries to EB
  • Allow higher upgraded structures to reward more PPT per tick based on upgrade levels – would also up the base value of PPK and give a bonus for outnumbered forces getting kills while outnumbered

3. Ascended/Legendary armor from WvWing

  • Ascended/Legendary gear options should be available from WvW paths
  • The difference in PvP and WvW is customization and gear progress, considering that WvW should have a way to acquire these items without having to PvE

4. Reward tracks – allow people to fund WvW activities in WvW

  • A lot of people PvE to fund WvW – WvW should generate enough income on its own
  • And yes this does mean correct the auto-loot issue as well

5. Add EoTM into the PPT scoring when each side has more than ‘x’ players on the map

  • EoTM should be tied into regular WvW and can be done by adding its scoring into WvW points for the servers assigned to those sides for the week. Only instances that have min levels of participation for each side should be scored.

6. Adjust Siege supply cost

  • Plan for havoc level play more
  • Further reduction in supply costs for higher end seige
  • Higher level siege should be more desirable
  • The old balance of Regular/Superior/Guild siege made more sense

7. WvW bonuses should apply to server outside of WvW to encourage people to support their server in WvW

  • Though this may not be noticed by a lot of players this bonus should be applied outside of WvW and be visible to players so that servers have at least a little more meaning to the world outside of WvW

8. Add more choke points and depth to EB

  • On the opposite side here, EB now seems too limited after the new maps

9. Bring back some form of player upgrades

  • Removing the ability to allow players to directly contribute to funding of upgrades remove some sense of ownership to that objective
  • Players should have some upgrades that they can contribute to upgrade structures

10. Guild Comm Tags

  • Guilds should be able to run their own tags that are visible to the guild if desired

well from ~215% you already are at 30k luck and it’s capped from there. Maybe they shoud just releas the cap and recalculate. I’d likely lose 10-15% maf, but the PPL at 300 would likely be set back to 260, and levels would rise till rediculous numbers. and end this uselss discussion once and for all.

Wasn’t in game at the time to check numbers and a quick wiki hit didn’t cut it. Point is allow it to keep gaining, but vastly increase the number per level or group of levels that makes it not really worth trying to buy your way up but allow people to still work towards something.

And I hear the counter point on the economy, its a good one. But some of that depends on what the drop tables (which we can’t see) are like. Example if we are talking a rare drop is 1%, versus .01% versus .0001%. If it is closer to a full percentage point then can concur. If its more towards the .0001 or lower then not as worried about it. Not to mention, they have the ability to adjust the tables to boot. I have said it before, the more “caps” you have in place the more people reach the end and then say, Huh, I’m done, time to move on.

All the scenarios fox stated are basically lost matches and you cant almost never blame those going afk.

I have my fair share of bad plays to the point of losing the match by myself. But bad plays =/= absolute pvp newbie and you cant really expect any veteran pvper to go full tryhard for a 40-500.

We can completely blame and look to get people banned that AFK in matches. Have you never had a turn around game after 250/350? If not then you going AFK is probably why. You will have matches with bad players on your side at some point. You will also have people that completely do not mix with your play style. Plan for it. Look at it as an opportunity to try new things or just use it as practice. If you don’t want to, then just go back to hotjoin. Don’t come here though and expect to make it sound like you were in the right, you weren’t. Your actions are worse then that bad player’s that you are trying to blame things on.

Also you might be surprised by how many people don’t use Metabattle, or even meta builds.

When I first started a few years back someone pushed the site at me. Took a look and laughed when I got back to them. Part of the fun of the game is finding builds that are effective for the player and the play style. Will some builds fail, yes but sometimes its the build, the player or a mix of them. Sometimes what a lot may consider a fail build may be a brilliant build when mixed with a certain play style.

@ OP Metabattle is meant to give the masses a baseline if they don’t want to try and figure it out for themselves, and even that is subjective. How many people were involved in saying a said build was meta in the first place, ponder that.

Well I want a legendary for my character but most ppl rely on metabattle for the “meta” of that class and unfortunately the leg i want is not in the meta.

edit: and when you’re not in the meta you can’t do really much. (fracs/dgs/RAIDS)

I hate to tell you this but metabattle only impacts you if you let it. Its propaganda. Or if you want to think about it a different way, what you are doing now, might be or become meta later. So its up to you to stand up for your own build.

I will counter that, a terrible first post.

If your first post is not even on your own official forums that makes me question spending anymore money on GW. That tells me the tools that your own team created are not worth using and instead you go else where to post. Why not just close these forums down then and move them completely to Reddit. That was a terrible first move. Makes me not even care what information was shared right now since it already has left a negative feeling on the game. -100 on this one ANet.

Solo play, 11:45 EST 3/4, Temple, player on same team drops at ~ 250 pts, lose a pip. Not grouped with them but my team did have 2 – 2 player teams and 1 solo (me). Is there some logic that after x amount of time of match or points that pip lose still occurs?

Losing streaks anger

If you CAP a point, keep it up. If it’s contested, prevent the CAP.

If you CAP point and run in circle, you will lose all your matches.

If your soloq guyz act like you, you will get that kind of result.

To carry matches, you need 2 points to win, keep them up.

Usually, it’s not the top 1, 2 or 3 glory point guyz that carried your match to victory. It’s the none selfish guy, holding a point that make you win games.

NO. There is no one way to win.

I have seen just as many loses like this where the entire fight was a 4v5 because one player decided they were going to sit on home even though the other team never even approached it. If the point is constantly under attack, then its different and that might be valid but too many people see things like this and say, no worries I will just sit and wait out the game. This is also why there is no points awarded to just bunker. Fighting and bunkering, yes, just standing around an uncontested point, no. If you are going to sit on a point, sit on one that’s underfire.

I agree that two points of three will generally win it for you, but you have be aware of what going on outside of 1 cap point and change your plan as needed from there else your opponents will release they will always have a +1 in fights and power play your side down.

Even being a player hit by some nasty losing streaks, concur. Honestly think that you should be able to lose divisions starting at Sapphire. Emerald should be the last division that you can just power play your way thru. This shouldn’t be about who can grind out the matches the best, that’s what PvP Rank already gave people. And yes this will cause me some raging too but it makes more sense versus just being able to grind your way up. 2 cents.

The Trading Post is so dynamic, that it’s been proven next to impossible for any one person or group of people to effectively manipulate anything.

I’ve seen this said in every game I’ve ever played and then someone reveals that actually they were part of a cartel doing just this thing and that they’ve accumulated enough money to be able to buy the whole auction house.

Next to impossible is meaningless.
Proving something to be next to impossible is therefore even less meaningful.

If each server was a separate TP then this might be a different story. Same thing if this was an AH versus TP. And the TP is a mini-game inside the larger game. But it is one that is voluntary. There are no goods that are exclusive to the TP.

Its also the thing to me that continues to devalue goods in the game since people in the mid to long term can effectively out farm people buying and selling goods. People can choose to never buy outright and instead place offers for what they are willing to pay for an item. Its also one of the reasons that for a majority that crafting yields less profit then what they might expect from other games. People will choose to put buy orders out there for crafted goods that are way below the actual cost to sell the raw materials in most cases.

Its the player base that may be impatient and be in a ‘I want it now!’ mindset that costs them coin. If someone was to buy every unit of a farmable good (luxury items aside), then that’s going to drive the farming zergs to a new location to fill the vacuum. Even for the rarer items it drives people searching for them, take the invisible shoes and treasure mushroom as an example. But even still you have people that will drive the value down by placing orders for 3 cooper for an item that there is 0 supply of. If no items in the game has any value even depending its rarity, you will lose most players since loot is the drug of most MMOs players. Oh shinny!

I get that MMOs are time-sinks, but that still doesn’t mean that if a player chooses to buy outright that item versus place buy orders or go gather it themselves that there shouldn’t be a price involved. The players that did play the game and gather the materials should also not have their time devalued by getting nothing back when they try and sell what they collected just because another player decided they just want to buy it.

Hence the whole buy versus sell bit trying to find the real value in this digital commodity. Which is also what makes it a mini-game for some players.

Unhappy/Confused about Matchmaking

I can’t believe the number of games I’m getting like this. I can’t claw my way out of emerald because of these people. It’s like the 7 realms of hell, I swear. I just keep sinking deeper and deeper. “Help! I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!”

So frustrating. And because I’m only emerald (primarily due to lack of play time), the few people I have played with previously (and we did well together) don’t want to group with me because they are sapphire and ruby already! Like, seriously? Come here so I can kitten slap you.

My solo q experience last season was no where near this awful.

See that’s why I think it seems off to people. If you get on a winning streak it seems to throw you with other people on winning streaks and then places you against groups of people on losing streaks together. Therefore magnifying both. People on the winning side think, its working as expected. But the issue is, as you pointed out, if you get stuck in the losing streak it gets worse and worse since it keeps dropping you into worse groups. I don’t have numbers to prove this but since others are running the same builds with different accounts and getting different results, that is tell-tale that something seems off. I am weary of spending the cash to upgrade an alt-account to test this directly for a number of reasons.

The game mode doesn’t allow a single player to carry a team so there is very little you can do. You can’t improve to the point that you can take all three points at the same time by yourself, unless you are a hacker. So you either have to hit a bottom and then get back in forward motion or forget solo queue and group with people that you have some faith in to break out of the block. Which is also why some people aren’t encountering this issue since group play mitigates the issue that I think more solo queuing people are encountering.

As far as the OP and statements that top tier people are not complaining, its because they grouped from the being and therefore bypass the random draws other get. That should have been obvious and it invalidates their opinion. Can others do the same as well, yes but some people like to achieve things solo, but in this case that might be their downfall. That doesn’t indicate that something isn’t off. It also doesn’t mean that people that get frustrated won’t play worse because they are kittened off.

But if the OP has gotten a data dump from the devs please do share so that others can also feel better about the match system and do some audits, since I have talked to people on both winning and losing streaks and its seems its a lot easier to stay on the winning side versus escape the losing one.

You adapt. That’s why its a game. If you are not expecting curve balls then maybe try something else in the game that is more scripted.

Why didn’t you:

  • Go far
  • Decoyed some back to your team
  • Lured one off to fight solo
  • Regrouped
  • Stalled
  • Go for different objective

Why was going in 2v4 and losing the fight your only option here? You are trying to justify your action as a correct one and you can’t in the example you provided. You get teamed with a known hacker and don’t want to assist them with a win, different story. You have a real life issue, different story. People playing badly, it sucks, sorry, but still doesn’t justify going AFK.

Have to agree with the above. Someone else making a decision (be it bad or good) doesn’t give you the right to handicap your team. If it bothers you that much just leave the match. Key here is you had all the information but you still decided to charge in and face the outnumbered odds.

Hi there,

Could we please have an automatic kick and dishonor system for players who have decided that their team is not worth playing for and who just sit idle in the starting area during sPVP matches? This behavior ruins gameplay for others and there is nothing we can do (there is not even a report option for this type of behavior).

P.S. Thank you for everything you do to make this game fantastic.

+1 OP. I talked about this with others as well. It would be nice if it force kicked people that just stayed in spawn. Only problem is that it could easily be bypassed by people just afking in other parts of the map outside of spawn.

Um, yes, yes you do.

Or you could have not queued up and/or queued as a party if you can’t take the fact that someone it might match you with might not be the best player or could have a build that’s completely ineffective against your opponents.

Would prefer to have a 200 AP person that tries versus the players that give up after the first fight that didn’t go as they expected.

The point of different achievements is to address depth of the game. The achievement system is simply a way to give a player a little more feeling that their time was spent in game doing a variety of activities. If you just allowed people to reassign points to other achievements people would find the most simple achievements and then repeat them until they maxed everything out. And then they would come to the forums and ask ANet about what’s next. Achievements do not block any part of the game so its up to people to say is doing that activity worth it. If its not then that’s their choice, but it doesn’t mean they are entitled to saying they did achieve it if they in fact did not.

In short achievements should require sort of effort else they have even less value then they do now.

Have to disagree (at least for now) with the OP. There was no real demand for any of the gemstones since we never got into ascended jewelry crafting. People may use exotic jewelry but the ascended ones drop enough, along with the ones you buy from currencies, that it makes the exotics obsolete. Now there is some function in the game for the gemstones, and that players can mine for as well. I would say let this one ride for now, if it has value people will go out and farm for it, and we should let them.

Posting this one for some players that play the DS meta quite a bit. Issue is that they keep encountering situations where a succeeding DS is being merged into ones that are failing. Is there anyway when the megaserver is rolling population together that it could factor these kinds of things in, any data point that could indicate a more advanced map and move players in that direction versus just to the ones with larger populations if it is combining maps?

Sake of consistency I would keep it the same as WvW. Stealing the quote from the other thread.

Some clarification on a bit of confusion I saw:

  • When a dolyak reaches its destination it contributes to the upgrades of both the objective it is reaching and the camp it started at.
  • Rally order is closest-first. Combined with the rally limit of one this means that only the nearest downed player will rally off an enemy death.
  • Resurrecting the dead cannot be started in combat, but entering combat while already resurrecting someone will not force you to stop.

Not sure what you are referring to about buying. Depending on how you have your mission preferences setup each week the server will assign random missions to your guild which may vary guild to guild. You can set it to be random or only give you PvP/PvE/WvW missions as a preference, but the type will be random within those groupings. I would recommend leaving the default to no preference since you earn and extra 10% favor if you go that route and complete the mission. You can unlock additional potential missions by leveling your guild and if I remember correctly there is a lock symbol and the requirements to unlock that spot in the guild mission page. For example there was an additional PvP mission at one level, a WvW at another.

Mission Slot PVE: How hard are these? We only have 3 players in the guild. Can we do these?

Bounty & Race can be activated while another guild is running them so you can combine your efforts with theirs and get the mission completed.

Treks can be done by just 3 if you have map completion and a good guide like the dulfy.net one.

Puzzles, that might be tough since some have mechanics that require at least 5.

Challenges, probably not but you van invite people in I believe to have them assist.

War Room Missions:
Again with only 3 (maybe 4 players) which are the best to do for a small group?

50% of these, yes since a 3 man is a pretty good size for a lot of these. Some of the ones listed as hard probably not since you may need 2 groups running at one time.

PVP Slot:
Who do you play? Inter- Guild? If not can we pick a particular guild to battle?

You activate these in the ranked and unranked arenas so the team is random and you will have additional people added to your group to meet the min 5 player group size.
You simply define a team under your guild tab. Activate the mission and then when you queue the group you will be challenged to run the game as the guild team defined, select that and off and away you go. There is no price for failure so you can always activate to test and then abandon or give it a try.

What good is becoming a scribe? I see that it is crafting, but why would I want to buy that?

If you are just a 3 man, not sure I would recommend scribing unless someone has a lot of gold and or abundance of materials.

It has been failing quite a bit of late and the latency has been increasing. Since I travel this has been from multiple locations as well so less likely of a localized issue. Not game breaking but something to note.

Sick of the Gem Store

Have to agree with a lot of the above. You either accept the gemstore which is optional and since you can also turn virtual currency into gems versus real money. Or the game becomes subscription which a majority of the player base is against. Right now a portion of the player base pays for maintenance fees and some new development via the gemstore and I bet a larger portion just enjoy the pay once and play for free after aspect of the game. I am good with either model but since there is no subscription, all I expect from ANet is bug fixes/balance and keeping the lights on unless I opt into the gemstore.

ANet has stated (I agree for a while) that they are working on WvW overhaul. It would be nice to get some information on that so that ideas like this can be mixed in if it makes sense with the new scheme or even if it helps the creative side work on a system that keeps the fights fresh for players.

How many home bl/defense oriented guilds do you see left?
For example Ehmry Bay had Ebay, Gates of Madness had GoM, etc…
Just compare their numbers in matches to what you see now and ask yourself where you see them more often now. How many active defenders do you see in fully fortified home bl keeps now?
To me it has been a total night and day difference. But that is just on my server, yours may be different.

Most of these people moved on from the game before the new maps since WvW had grown stale. Population was already in decline at that time. Hadn’t seen what you were referring for a long time, maybe year and half and some of that depended on tiers. Saw more of that in lower tiers and less defense forces the higher up. Point remains, EB has always draw more people since each side has equal footing. That’s a home versus EB thing more than an alpine vs desert issue.

The cap was added less for the players that were up and coming, but more because the achievement hunters were asking for it. In a lot of cases the argument was that if there were points to gain in the dailies and monthies then they were “forced” (not my words) to do it and couldn’t enjoy other parts of the game. The counter argument at the time was that if people wanted to do more dailies then they could with the old system. Alas in the end we have the cap. It is what it is though. Good gaming!

Actually, yes.

Does anyone have the same information on pre-new maps? The reason I ask is that in the Tiers I have been in, and after having been on SoR thru the whole rise and fall means saw some of all of them at one point, EB has always had more fights then the home borderlands since all three sides have the same playing field.

Leaving likes or dislikes aside or debating if people like or don’t, unless we can also see the percentages of how much the home maps were played prior to the switch over we can’t tell if the stats are the same or different.

Are there any APIs that pull older data out of the game? Not sure I have seen anyone mention one.

And cool use of the API, nice one.

[Opinion] Objectives-Retain Damage After Cap

I would like to see Pink Ninja Man’s idea about supply steal on stomp go in first and see how that impacts the supply game. At the time I hadn’t thought about the tie into it or the Guild Supply Drop’s buff. Both are great points from above.

I worry about the KTrain as well but, I am not certain that shouldn’t be something addressed by ANet anyway. There have been various threads recommending changes to the point value and/or loot/WXP drops from structures that are T1 compared to T3.

But it would be interesting as a test to see how it changes the fights since people would need to decide, do we stay and try and hold it after we smashed it open or move on. Defenders would actually get defense ticks for fighting while holding it so they have a little more incentive to defend, plus they would have something to do while defending. Getting Yaks in also increase in value and thereby escorts since you would need it for the repairs.
