Never left, but no bringing back ABL will not encourage me if they do it and scrap DBL, if anything it would give me more indications the end is near.

This is a witch hunt. Bringing back ABL is not a silver bullet.

Have to agree with the above. ANet needs to ask, why is EB always populated where as both DBL and ABL had less people on them. Its the equal footing. Both DBL and ABL should be restructured to be equal footing and then remove the concept of home borderland and have those three maps (EoTM would be a plus to some which would make 4) what players are fighting over. That still won’t address the other issues though like population, balance, rewards, scoring, but it would create more places people want to fight over.

Even you, who try to defend EotM can not provide any reason for it to exist. Yes, there was once many players waiting in queues. There is none now. Yes it was suppose to be testing ground. That never happened.

So, what is the reason we have EotM?

EoTM is like EB. If you are looking for fights there is typically more population there then in other places. There will be times where one side has chased the others away but that is rare. So if there is nothing going on else where in WvW or people are just running around in PvDing it can be place to go to pick a fight since it will be populated. I say this after playing in all tiers 1-8.

And have said it before, where they failed was not figuring out how to add those 4 hour match scores into WvW so that people could enjoy a change of map but still aid their server. That’s where EoTM fails, its a very selfish map, but that’s also because its designed that way.

That said, people that think that just removing EoTM from the game will boost population I think are incorrect. I think it would a split, some people would go PvP, some WvW and yes some PvE. WvWers that jump to EoTM are typically over there to fight in a different map environment. I think if ABL does just replace DBL more people that were enjoying the diverse fighting areas will got EoTM when they are bored with the WvW maps.

In either case its arrogant of players to say, I don’t play that game mode remove it, even if other people are. I hate Raids, should I be here saying remove them, or talking about how this game mode should be adjusted. You don’t have a lot of EoTM people out here talking about EoTM, because they are either playing it, or don’t like it and are playing standard WvW. So, stop mixing the conversations unless you have a solution on how to roll EoTM into standard WvW.

When solo hunting prefer DBL. Have been able to weave and escape bigger groups on DBL where as with ABL it was more of who ever had the best speed mechanism would win when being chased by a group. Open visibility for a solo hunter or havoc favored the zerg, where as in the DBL it favors the tighter knit formations.

Why do most players hate when warrior is in their team?

I’ve read many threads about “warrior is a pvp joke” and “warrior is not competive”.

But couple days ago I’ve seen how players just intentionally lose because they have a warrior in teammates.

So, what did I see from arena:
1. Tons of pve warriors with gs, sword/axe, rifles
2. Tons of precision+ferocity warriors without ANY sustain nor defensive abilities (like endure pain).

These guys are going into arena and feed all the time. There’s really no benefit from them in teamfight. But this is a problem of players, not a class!

Also, i came to metabattle and didn’t find one of the most viable builds: full condi warrior.

I’ve checked this build after one of “joke warriors” just stunlocked me to death from 100 to 0 hp.

This build is hammer + mace/shield and there’s 8 stuns/knockdowns.
If such warrior gets close – and he gets – he can stun one target to death while interrupting most abilities. So if you do not have 2 stunbreakers – there’s no chance at all.

Yesterday I had lots of losses on a warrior and i found that people just do not realise what to do. They expect that warrior should rush into a fight and receive all damage while these guys just autoattack from safe distance. I was winning 1 vs 2 fight while 4 other teammates died from 3 opponents without killing anyone. Is this a problem of a warrior?

The biggest problem for stunlock condi warrior is a scrapper with massive stability stacks.

So My question is – why do you dislike warriors so much? Because it is simpler to dislike unskilled players.

I think of all HoT changes the Warrior seems to be near the bottom. And I like the War and play it and all the classes. As others have said it feels like it is lacking team support and not pulling its weight in fights. You can get some impressive numbers but to do so you seem to lack sustainability. Since War is master of all weapons it almost seems like it should be doing more when it closes. The condi side also seems to lacking since you are then more limited in your weapon selections. It also suffers from client server distance issues. If you have any sort of latency you can find your self missing even if you appear in range on your side.

Been trying to figure out what exactly would tip the balance for the class without making it OP. It seems the role they want it to be is the one-on-one killing machine, but it doesn’t have the output to fit that. One thing I am surprised didn’t become base was a movement speed increase, its suppose to be the menace, but what’s the point if it can’t get to the fight with any weapons its using. Also where a lot of classes defensive/escape abilities seem to have dual purposes, the War’s seem to be single focus in a number of cases. An no, banners are not a good substitute.

Long story short, it could use some love to make it more appealing over other options.
Reaper/Druid/Scrapper/DH/Rev can all do most of the same thing as War/Berserker but then bring additional group advantages in.

Had a War/Berserker yesterday that their whole game plan was they go where at least 2 other teammates are. There are good Warriors out there, but there are also a lot of bad ones too. Good hunting.

I would describe “Ninja” as a small group taking a large structure in record time with or without opposition, but mostly very stealthlike, and “ktrain” as a blob rolling into said structures obliterating the 2 people defending and dancing on their corpses afterwards. PPT be kitten ed, Ktrains are mainly for spite and humiliatuon, whereas ninjas are mainly skill groups that do it for fun. There is a distinct difference with the two terms.

If there is no opposition on the map, its effectively a K-Train or adding to one if the other side is just coming back thru and reflipping it before PPT counts. If its occurring over night then its night capping which a lot of people are quite often up in arms about. I concur if you do it while the map is contested then its different. Ninja requires someone around to have stopped the action. Doing it in the middle of two other sides fighting for that objective, concur, ninja. Jumping from a fighting map to an empty to flip there stuff and no one is on map, no. Might help in distracting or pulling pressure, but still a type of k-train.

And when were you out in EoTM? Recently? When it first came out? How fresh is your information?

Last week maybe… And yes EOTM like usual is not about holding anything.
Just about KTrain and fight. No one care about the PPT score.
It’s not a bad thing for me in this game mode, it’s only for fun and level up.

Then we have had different experiences. Have seen sides hold their keep from all takers for entire matches and commanders that would bring the zerg back if an alarm was raised from the defenders. Have seen the opposite as well, but don’t stick around for those.

When players said, “I miss the alpine maps”, this didn’t mean EVERYONE was saying, “they should can the desert BLs and go back to just alpines”.

It would be a shame to not have the desert BLs in the game still.

That’s the part I don’t get. Why can’t the players have both. I like options. Some days I want to play on DBL, some days on EBG, some days ABL, some days EoTM. Variety is good and keeps the experiences fresh. This my way or the highway bit, well there are other RvR games out there accepting donations.

That’s fine, I’ll do it.

The only change the upgrade system ever needed was to change the gold cost to karma or badges. Auto upgrades and instant waypoints are a kittening joke.

Your going to create an account on all servers and pay for everyone’s upgrades. Very noble.

Side note, a lot of us spent an extreme amount of currencies (gold/mats/badges/karma) on the WvW portion of the guild halls and for scribing. Are you going to be able to convince ANet to refund all of us?

I wasn’t in favor of auto-upgrades, the changes to the Yaks were much better though. That said never appreciated it when after spending a lot of coin upgrading a BL to have an enemy K-Train come along and just flip it back. Using badges and karma for the upgrades would have made sense but that time is past. It also might have further encouraged more K-Training versus fighting by people, but now with the reason that they needed the currency for the upgrades.

I think it’s a great idea but more so for population issues…. DBL would be a lot of fun if the map was full on all 3 sides.

See that’s part of it. So ANet brings back ABL. Makes some people happy, makes some not happy. Why not bring back ABL and then make DBL into a three sided map and leave it as a 5th battlefield. People that don’t like it, they have options, people that do, also have options. It still favors the vocal majority of forum peeps since they now have 4 maps but leaves a sandbox for those of us that liked both. As others have said, they are in a lose lose position either way, why not try and retain as many as possible.

Even if that were the case, that’s just another reason why they should have linked it more into traditional WvW scoring. But that aside, have seen hours long keep fights that matched ones in BLs before. And to your point, for no other reason (since PPT does impact it) but since one side wanted it and the other side objected. And have seen people K-Train, but have seen that in regular WvW too.

However, most real wvw’ers are dead set against the KTrains and quote unquote gimmicks that come with eotm.

I like how people keep using “ninja” in regards to taking empty objectives in ABL, the other translation is K-Train. Does it have value to take them, sometimes if a server is going for PPT and sometimes for attacking another objective. But also it was quite often used by people avoiding fights to get karma and loot. Still remember whole guilds going to empty maps to take it over. Did they break up and take it in one swoop, no, they zerged each one down one by one and then moved to the next empty BL. Call a spade a spade at least.

From the get go they probably should have just made 4 ebg type maps, then they could have dumped the “homebl” concept and we could have had at this point ebg, alpine, eotm, desert as the 4 maps to play on for a matchup.

This would have been a good compromise. Even an option to have both ABL and DBL would have at least allowed people who like either or both maps options versus either cutting off one group or another. The non-forum people I have lead here have all had the same reaction of why are they pulling content they gave us.

Again. EoTM has one of the highest populations. I don’t see those players out here asking for a change and since most WvW players consider it PvE, leave it alone unless you are going to add it to the base WvW scoring system.

This comes off as pretty short-sighted.

The players that want this are largely going to be turned off by any changes that don’t shift WvW towards a simplistic GvG scene. Either Anet is going to support that (thus killing WvW as RvR) or they’re going to hamstring themselves courting players who will abandon them anyway.

There were good parts of ABL, don’t get me wrong, played many hours on them and found them fun, but they did get stale. Was on the side of make sure your home is secure versus must go EBG. Fear people are using rose tinted glasses on this. That said they also:

  • Promoted zerging, smaller map so people thought, why not go as a blob even if one person alone could take a T3 camp
  • Encouraged k-train farming, quite often the k-train and PPTers would just circle around each others maps since the design flowed well for that kind of thing
  • Encouraged groups to port since the LoS meant you could tell you were about to be zerged down
  • Had open but limited number of travel paths, if a side had enough people they could block someone into their spawns rather easily, aka spawn camping
  • Had a number of unresolved terrain exploits
  • Roamers were at a disadvantage with little terrain to be able to use or were encouraged to spawn camp
  • Were where a lot of people went while they waited on EBG queues

But it is, what it is, will have to see, at least while things are being developed.

Alpine Borderlands will most likely be back like the current Eternal Battlegrounds with the original geometry and the HOT guild system and this might be the cause of the delay and what has been planned to

" bring it up to the current game state".

This is exactly what will be happening else they wouldn’t be concerned with the scribing costs.

Now Legendaries, oh yeah, they never should have been on the TP.

Why should people that enjoy the crafting even if not the owning of the weapons not be able to sell something they crafted. Its up to the player if they want to buy one or not. They still had to spend some type of resource to acquire it, be it time, mats, gold or gems. There are very few items of true player value in game, you shouldn’t restrict that. Not to mention to craft it someone had to still go through all the steps to make it, so if they want to trade the resources they acquired to do so, why not.

On top of that have been involved with helping others make Legendaries for other friends. If this was set to not be trade-able then you just eliminated this kind of thing from game and removed more group play. Which the more you do, you reach a point where, why group. We can chat on voice and be playing single player games if its each to their own.

I’m tempted to believe the main reason the HoT maps are the way they are (long meta-event chains, map-based “keys” taking inventory slots, boxes you open on a cast time that’s interrupted on hit) is because they looked at metrics showing that a majority of players spent a disproportionate amount of time in the Silverwastes.

I admit if I am going to PvE outside of Fractals, prefer to do it in the Silverwastes and new zones since there is a progressive feel to the map, where as the older maps are more for just gathering or bosses. That progressive feel is missing in the older maps which removes some replay-ability. Silverwastes kind of has that Marionette or Scarlet Invasion feel to them that makes you check to see if one is up and head there.

So you’ve made 2 of the 20 plus legendaries in the game right now and in the future you might make more. See that’s exactly the point.

At this point, you haven’t made 18 of the legendaries, but time was put into making each of them…that’s exactly the point.

Most of the legendaries are wasted on you. It’s different with a raid, or something, because everyone who’s doing raids is doing the raids in the game.

Like if they designed 20 dungeons people each person only did 2 that would be a huge waste of resources.

Not to mention raids are repeatable and so are dungeons but very few people make the same legendary twice.

Concur on your points, which is why I can see dropping the crafting of the new Precusors, but that doesn’t mean they can be dropped as loot drops.

Side note: main reasons I haven’t crafted more is I find world completion and hearts dull, actually makes me fall asleep at the keyboard.

No for this to work they need to remain account bound on equip. There is nothing wrong with some one not liking the Legendary for the Precursor they got from a drop and wanting to sell it to get one they do want to make. Also nothing wrong with people making them to sell for those that want one but don’t want to do the leg work. Gold needs to have some value in game.

Go back to what it was before. Just design a new skin precursor, add it the loot tables and design the new legendary weapon skin.

There. Done. New Legendary weapon created. You turn out new armor and weapon skins for the Gem Store on a monthly basis. There should be no reason you can’t support this if the only development requirement is creating the skins themselves and not having to introduce an entirely new overly complex precursor collection and crafting recipes.

Yes, precursors go back to being market or RNG only, but that’s not a total loss to us as players. The precursor crafting isn’t some epic treasure hunt. It’s 10% an epic treasure hunt and 90% a giant gold sink that costs more the precursors acquired via RNG and sold on the market.

+10, this. Talking to people in game last night and this would be a better solution. Even those of us that liked the crafting would still be happier with loot drops versus crafting or not having new Legendary weapons at all.

Actually I think he made a valid point. Anet knows how many players by percentage have even 1 legendary. They know how many have 2.

If they create 16 legendary journeys, what they’re doing is creating content that most people will never do. It’s not really like a dynamic event or even a dungeon or fractal. It’s a long term goal that many people either can’t reach or can’t be bothered going for.

Saying that he doesn’t have numbers is quite irrelevant because Anet does have those numbers and they made the decision.

I don’t have the numbers either and would not be considered a Legendary chaser, but your general description here could also be applied to Raids. So…why are we doing them when there are that many more people that have been waiting on new Fractals, or and even larger player base for PvP or an even larger player base for WvW.

That said I have crafted two Legendary weapons in the past and will craft more in the future. It was fun and entertaining and in my case profitable since they were built to fund other projects. One of them I will remake for myself in the future even if it never sees actions since it was one of the under water weapons.

One thing this game lacks is unique and desired loot. Let’s be honest part of the fun is the shiny at the end that people can place some value in in this virtual world. For many Precursors and Legendary weapons are that shinny item. Have had one drop and even it was just Venom its still a fond memory. Same when on voice and other guild mates have had drops of their own. Its one of those “oooohhhh” moments for everyone since it is rare and therefore precious.

Now I get it, if there is that much work that is needed to go into new precursor crafting, then it is what it is. At the same time the point is valid that once people do a journey its over and it content that they will not be able to re-do, so it has limited value over the life of the game.

But, then why not go back to the old method for the new Legendary weapons and make the new Precursors non-soul bound and add them to loot tables. Let them be drops for now like the originals are. I am working under an assumption that graphical design is on level with releasing new BLTC skins, loot table additions are a database entry, so the more complex part is the addition of the recipes and mystic forge coding.

This way people still get some of what they thought they were getting, new desired items are introduced for people to find, it gives crafters more to do, gives TP people things to trade, and it acts as material sink for items that are in mass supply. And if possible in the future, Precursor crafting can added down the road as resources are made available from other projects.

Is there any reason that the new precursors couldn’t be added to the loot tables like the first ones are and just skip the precursor treasure hunts? That way people still have something to work towards and part of the goal is also achieved. This is working under the assumption that a major part of the new legendaries is the precursor crafting versus the legendary crafting itself. Using this method the crafting portion of the precursor could be added later as time permits but player still have new legendaries to work towards. You could further tie the loot tables into the new zones or areas that you want to emphasis.

However, as far as investing in other games, that isn’t contingent upon gold sellers in the PVP lobby, or gold sellers at all for that matter.

The part that is contingent is when you have multiple factors all adding together. Gold Sellers are just part of the equation which could have been solved by other changes that may have been easier or more complex to make. Whispering is an example. If we already had options to who can/or can not whisper you then the gold sellers would be mote. There are a number of kickstarter and ongoing projects competing for gamer’s money right now that make both little and large items matter. Does it rank up there with some other issues right now, no. But should it already have been addressed and was missed, yes.

I don’t think this is as big of an issue as you make it out to be. I only get something like 3 new gold sellers per week and it takes 2 seconds to block each one.

3 New a week? What is your timezone? Can get 3 news on in a 15 minute time frame.

I’ve gone through the +1/-1 stuff, furthest I’ve made it so far is only T2, but the quality of players is garbage. For instance, how can you go from amber to diamond and not know to fight on the points, that kills between points when you could be capping aren’t that great of an idea, people not knowing how to rotate off those points (yeah, there’s a third cap point /wink), and people that do not know how to pick up a target and focus it down?

Simple. Because people can’t fall back through divisions. The game is still set that if you can play (or game) your way up you reach a safe point that you can idle at, which falsely inflates some people.

If match making wasn’t a concern with so many then people should also be able to fall back through tiers in a division in both Emerald and Sapphire as well as Ruby.

On top of that matching making is still off on team selections for a number of reasons that can’t be fully detected by the player base since they can’t get a full view of all the stats. An example of this is all the people that have used the same build on a primary and alt accounts and experience completely different match result where the alt account can roll through and the primary account can not. Not to mention the class stacking, no ranking per class and pre-mades versus pugs complications.

Ok, so we can’t queue outside of HoTM. We have people already frustrated with match making. And then we have obvious gold sellers who day in and day out stand right outside of the portal in the mists. So can’t we either:

  • Queue outside the mist (been asked for)
  • Have account settings that can be toggled to prevent whisper from strangers (been asked for)
  • Detect gold sellers via the patterns they use and block them earlier (been asked for)
  • Block whispers in HoTM between non-guilds/non-friends (that way at least the map chat trolls can be employed on the gold sellers)

After playing some Stronghold last night, definitely need Scarlet. Image her giggling in the enemy’s lord room as she does her power attack. “Sorry for all the Death!”. And yes some classic Scarlet statements as she is summoned, +10.

Hi all,

This is a great thread. It’s constructive. We’re all reading it and referring to it in team discussions.

As we said in the AMA, our top internal priorities have been population balance and rewards. From this thread, your top five priorities are, in order:
1. Stability & skill balance
2. Fix or revert DBL
3. Rewards
4. Population balance
5. Scoring

Yes, we will take the feedback and make stability, general skill balance, and fixing/reverting DBL our top priorities. We’re not currently working on scoring and that has to be a longer-term project.

Karl is working specifically on WvW-focused skill balance. He’s looking for the wins for WvW that don’t screw the rest of the game.

We’re investigating whether to fix or revert DBL. They’re both a lot of work. These next couple days will be your last chance to give feedback before we make a decision, so speak now or forever hold your peace.

I want to reiterate that everything we work on either ships in April or starts beta-testing on Live servers in April. We’re locking down dev work for the April release soon — next up is localization, QA, integration and regression testing — but we’ll extend the deadline for WvW skill balance.

There is one thing that doesn’t need to get wrapped up into the April release: Friday night resets. That doesn’t require a Live build. We’ll do it.

So this will happen, got it. But how will season 3 scoring be adjusted for this situation. Shouldn’t solo queues that beat pre-mades earn extra pips since they are already at a disadvantage? A pre-made is more likely on comms and therefore are more likely at +1 member advantage by not having to stop to type alone. Something to consider. Is this even being considered?

Closing in on 1500 right now after all the guild upgrades, but admit, prefer that they didn’t allow this since it would have speed through the expansion even faster.

Do a key run a week. Uses up 8 tomes each week and gets you a key.

I get that unlimited key runs might have been an issue. But these restrictions really should be daily. This was a fun guild activity that was eliminated by moving it to weekly.

Maps are not main reason? Have you seen EB queues comparable to bl queues? Please don’t sit there and act like the map doesn’t factor into anything, that’s completely ridiculous.

EB always out queued ABL. I have played in all tiers at this point in time. EB always out queued the home borderlands unless the map zerg was moving from EB to a borderland. I understand the point you are trying to make but people keep using EB and that’s a false comparison since its always been true, ABL or DBL. EB draws more for various reasons but a big one is because it is equal footing. You know another map that is equal footing and draws a lot of people, EoTM. Kind of a pattern there, yes. Anyway, hope reset is tonight, and in either case hope that wherever you may find it you find good hunting in WvW. I think we all enjoy the game mode which is what works us all up about it.

It is irrelevant if you or me or someone else likes the map design. Maps are not main reason nobody wants to play WvW anymore. And so, demanding to restore old maps is also waste of time and money and will gain nothing to bring players back to WvW since they never left because of the maps.

A lot of basics for WvW has to be changed. Scoring. Population. Skills. Etc etc. It does not matter what kind of maps are used, if there is no players they all remain empty. And there wont be any players without fixing real problems.

This. Its like the ABL has become a silver bullet, its isn’t. There are other factors outside of the map that would probably go a lot further.

Could give us some links to threads about how bad alpine border was (pre HoT)?

The only big discussions on alpine was about orbs and bloodlust with it’s changes to the ruins/lake.

Forums will always be full of people asking for change, that’s kind of their point. But stop and ask yourself this, how much luck did you have going back and replaying a game you already played and left years ago. Sometimes you might have extended stays but more than likely you tire quickly since you already did that. Could be I am biased, WvW style game I played before this had 26 WvW style maps of varying terrain to fight across. After 5 years it hadn’t gotten stale yet. But each to their own in the long run. I also know that there are a lot of people that don’t partake on the forums.

Can you share the API that you are using that shows the number of unique users that only logged into the DBL or log into EoTM? Do you have the numbers that showed the number in decline while we just had ABL in place?

I think DBL would be better suited for EoTM than WvW since neither of those maps are suitable WvW maps. I have no desire to play on either EoTM or DBL at all, and I want to be able to play on all maps that are in the game mode due to my style of play includes considering EVERY BL in the match is our concern.

That’s your opinion about not being suitable WvW maps. I like maps that require you to think where you are fighting and allows a smaller force to take on larger ones and the fight not be determined by just who has the larger zerg. Choke points and points of control make holding and fighting in some spots better positioning depending on the fight. Which keeps it varied and fresh. And don’t you think that other people that have also payed for this game like to be able to play on all potential maps in the game modes they enjoy? Hence a compromise so that we all have places we would like to fight over. If one of those is not as much to your liking, there is still ground to control for all.

Have to agree, I don’t think we need three borderlands that are exact copies of each other. That’s one of things that made them stale over time. As long as all sides have ground they can protect and can not be bottled into their spawn that would do.

Why compromise? Anet’s in the weak negotiating position. They’re obviously under immense pressure and very desperate right now as evidenced by their apparent interest in WvW (and management shakeup). Now is the time to push for the changes you really want.

I think it was meant as a compromise between the 2 different player groups (one that wants the Alpine maps back and the other that wants to keep the Desert one) rather than a compromise with Anet.

Exactly. I know a number of WvWers that will end up leaving if DBL is removed, so trying to find a middle ground. So there are people on both sides of the fence here.

A better compromise would be to bring back the alpine bl and rotate the deserted bl with eotm.
That way they can test out any changes they make to the map without disrupting wvw and still get player feedback.

I don’t think that the people that are enjoying EoTM today are looking for any changes, its the people on the regular WvW maps. This wouldn’t make any sense.

The Borderlands currently only really work if all 3 servers have the same map, otherwise one or more servers could be at a distinct tactical disadvantage.

If the Borderlands were made to be a proper 3-way map similar to EB and EotM then it could work, but not the way it is now.

See I think they have already introduced to us the idea that a side can begin in a somewhat fortified position at reset so having the lowest ranked server in a more dominate position at start could help balance the start of a week out.

Having the multiple maps could also allow people to play on maps they prefer and re-link back in people that like the EoTM maps for their play-ability. I have seen EoTM change from a k-train to a fighting map over time and some of the fights have been rather inspiring as people hunt each other down.

I think I would prefer to try it versus rule it out and lose more people because they leave because DBL stays or ABL comes back.
