RIP Zerker Build

Guys, Anet threw us a bone here. So let’s just keep to ourselves that damage is more powerful than ever and let all the ‘snowflakes’ continue thinking that their PVT staff-camping AH Guard actually contributed to the run and that that “10% damage Nerf” really ‘taught us a lesson’. Zerkers are more powerful than ever now and I think Anet was hoping we’d just keep it to ourselves and ‘go along to get along’. My Engi and my friends Thief basically duoed AC last night with a lvl 40 Ranger and two lvl 20s in tow just because we were bored and are feeling crazy powerful right now. The higher lvl zones have shown me a slight reduction in damage, but 90% of the content is just silly now. So yeah RIP Zerker! You will be missed.

Yeah, I agree. Anything sub-80 is kinda silly now. Did AC earlier tonight on my 80 Engine with a friend who uses a thief and we brought a lvl 45 Ranger along with 2 lvl 20s. The level 20s (117-140 APs) were friends who just happen to be standing outside AC when we were getting a group together. They were asking, “What is this place!?” and seemed intrigued, so we had them join our group to ‘make some memories’. We basically duoed an instance scaled for 5.

Select new Stats for Zerker Ascended Gear

Well they originally said ‘max DPs’ builds will lose about 10% damage. Crit chance and crit damage aside (handled in the few posts above), a ‘max DPs’ build also relies on +X% damage modifications which stack multiplicatively. This could be the reason for the minor discrepancy in damage calculated by stats alone.

Eh that’s not true. Yes the ascended skins will be available through the wardrobe system. They also stated, however, that Legendary and Ascended items will become account bound, meaning they can be transferred between characters. Most are interpreting this as ALL Ascended gear provided they meet the ‘armor class/racial’ criteria for armor. Transmuted items might be a problem though.

I oppose this idea. From the perspective of someone that often runs PuG dungeons, as I play late some nights, I will attest to the fact that a LOT of Warriors have no idea that their banners are any more usefull than their passive effects. IE. Plant in ground and forget about till the next fight. Who cares about perma Fury, perma swift, and huge stacks of might on your entire party right? Well I, for one, do care. I often even see groups leaving behind sets of banners and running off headfirst into the next boss fight. O.o It sux when Conjure Weapons are stolen for sure, but most Eles who depend on them will vocalize it before it becomes a problem. As for running banners in open world PvE…..what are you doing? O.o

I’ve also found that while soloing with a thief, often times you will have an enemy toward the end of their ‘leash’ radius and then stealth which will reset the enemy’s aggro. When this happens, they will often ignore your attacks after breaking stealth and reset, sometimes even going invulnerable. It sucks for certain to see 10-15 minutes of nearly flawless play go down the drain because you stealthed 100 ft outside of where you had an ‘aggro lock’. This has happened to me several times in dungeons after the rest of my party had wiped with only a few HP % left on the boss. while whitling away the last few hitpoints (less than 1%), I LOSed the boss and stealthed b/c I had two seconds left on my heal. /sigh Boss breaks aggro resets and I ran after him to no avail has his health climbed back up to full.

I got an Asc. chest drop with similar craptastic stats and I didn’t even take a second thought at just transmuting the ‘pretty skin’ to an exotic staff that my Ele was using. Matches her armor so nice, and with the stats on the Asc. chest I really didn’t lose any damage by transmuting it to an exotic. If the skin matches your color scheme and looks good, I’d say just transmute it. Much better to enjoy the skin than try to make some use out of those stats if it’s not really your playstyle. Good Luck

It resets at 7pm. But it reset the monthly at 7pm on the 31st instead of on April 1st. I am well aware AF how the resets work as I have been around since launch and been playing GW for almost 10 years. This is not a matter of my location, server, or reset times as the monthly reset a full day early causing me to miss out on 10 very valuable laurels which are worth up to 8ish gold right now.

When I logged out at around 2 am on the 30, the progression bar said ‘2 days’ until reset (though it was actually around 38 hrs). I was too exhausted after an extensive ‘dungeon teaching’ session to look for one last event so I logged off thinking “I’ll just get one last event real quick after work tomorrow.” Come to find out, after logging in the next evening, the monthlies had been reset prematurely causing me to forfeit my achievement rewards.

in Players Helping Players

even before MMOs were around dungeons were well established part of normal console RPGs as well, so it was/is an expected part of adventuring. RPGs came from the idea of the pen & paper RPG D&D. there are even some games out there where your ENTIRE game takes place in a huge, multi-leveled dungeon such as Ergheiz and the likes.

Does Elixir U's description give false info?

in Engineer

Posted by: Tman.6349

Tman.6349

Elixir U has its uses in PvE but is easily out-shined in PvP by more defensive skills such as elixir S. Elixir U gives you quickness and “a random other utility” but be careful as these so called ‘other utilities’ are actually debuffs. One causes you to take 50% more damage and the other reduces your endurance regen. Toss Elixir U is the part of this skill that really shines in PvE because reflect can be so powerful in some areas of the game. Toss Elixir U has randomness built in as well. It creates either Smoke Screen which blocks projectiles or Wall of Reflection which reflects projectiles. Both of these skills are good though WoR is obviously a more favorable outcome. The fact that you can ground target this skill means that you can place a projectile block/reflect at a distance which is useful and neither of the professions that these skills are taken from can do this. :p This is a fairly situational skill though so keeping it on your bar always might not be as good as say Elixir S for survival or something else. Once you learn content and when to swap this in and out, you can work wonders with it for a group w/o reflects or for speedy revives. Also note that the tool belt skills are on a separate CD than the utilities they are associated with. This means that you can equip Elixir U for the tool belt reflect for a certain situation and then swap it out for something else even while the tool belt is on cool down. This is good to note for the tool belt revive or stealth as well. As long as you’re out of combat and the elixir itself is off CD, then it can be swapped out regardless of the tool belt cool down. This is a very good trick to learn and I recommend getting familiar with ALL of the tool belt skills for this reason.

I know that’s more than you actually asked but I got carried away.

Gumball is spot on here. This thread has been rehashed a couple dozen times now since launch and I don’t think it will ever happen. In PvE this wouldn’t be game breaking at all, but PvP/WvW are are completely different. Armor styles mean a LOT in these aspects of the game, where knowing, roughly, what an enemy is capable of at a first glance is very important aspact of the game. I don’t want to be standing in a ‘safe’ spot on my mesmer or ele, for instance, and see a few armor sets and think that I’m ok. Then, all of a sudden, that guy wearing heavy off in the distance (that I thought I would be relatively safe from w/o a lot of movement or a big animation) is actually a S/P Thief with a 1500 tele range in heavy armor. You see where I’m going with this. Although it might be ‘hip and cool’ to have over 2000 pieces of armor to mix-n-match, having some restricted looks on the classes is pretty important in this reguard. Not to mention the clipping/animation issues that others have pointed out.

I’m drawn to this anology: Mom and Dad are going out to the store; they have two sons, a 12 yr old and (spoiled) 4 yr old. Dad says, “OK! Big Brother, you have proven yourself so you’re in charge. Little Brother, be good and listen to Big Brother, he knows what he is doing and is going to take care of you b/c you are so young.” Mom and Dad leave and Little Brother starts going crazy and making a mess of things. He says, “I’m not your brother anymore! I’m a lonely wolf and I’ll do what I want!” After an hour and a half of mayhem, Little Brother finally get’s tired of his shinanigans and settles down just in time for Big Brother to clean up and restore order before they BOTH get busted and in trouble. Mom and Dad are releived when they get home to see Big Brother and Little Brother sitting on the couch watching a cartoon together.

This is the anology of my 10 yr GW experience. I’m stoked about the future of this game with still many reveals left to go. I just hope we move into the realm of ‘bug fixes’ soon enough so that this feature patch can rest on a solid foundation.

Please don't make traits start at 30

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tman.6349

I do have to agree with some of the sentiments in this thread. I think 20-40-60 would have been a better choice. For me, dungeoneering is a HUGE part of my Pve play, and I think this trait restriction is going to limit dungeons groups willingness to let lower level players tag along. With the decrease in our overall damage added to the mix, we now pretty much have a GUARENTEE that we are ‘dragging’ someone through a dungeon as they will, by default, not have needed stats/traits that are their only saving grace right now. Level 30-35 groups in AC? Hello!?! Also, aside from dungeons, at low levels, players have VERY limited stat selection possibilities and limiting this even further is a big mistake imo. Low level players often depend on traits to suplement missing offenive or defefnsive stats not present in thier gear options. Currently, by the time you level to 30, you have an EXTRA 200 pts worth of stats (usefulness of traits at the low level aside) to help your character balance out a build. Halting this supplemental stat allocation till so much later is going to be a BIG step in the wrong direction as far as leveling chars is concerned. My ‘two cents’ is only worth a penny though, so take it for what you will.

I assume you’re running Zerker gear because you’re capable and know everything else is garbage, apart from min/maxing. Zerker is not the only set effected by the ‘normalization’ of Crit Dam.

Could be a new group has formed to sell gold? No real reasoning for an item with no character or esthetic value to be trading for such prices. Only other reason is someone mistakenly put in the wrong values into a piece of software before going on holiday. They’ll be sorry when they get back home

The same goes for a level 3 weapon. It’s a rather poor choice in stats and you blow past level 3 in 15 minutes.

Whenever things don’t make sense on the TP, it’s always traders playing.

I’ll try my best to answer both of these with some common sense w/o invoking ‘speculators/flippers’ who buy and sell from each other/themselves…LoL.

The level 20 toughness dagger can be explained, although slightly contrived, hear me out. As Wanze said, a ton of low level items where bought causing prices to soar quite high. The professions which use daggers are all very squishy at this level and many players will be inclined to toss some toughness into their build for survival. Over time these prices have all trickled back down from their insane prices. However, with a lot of players having heaps of money and turning 1 yr old, there are many players skipping directly to level 20. They buy these lvl 20 gears reguardless of price b/c: a) they are in too much of a hurry or b) they don’t care. That’s really the only sense I can make of it.

As for level 2-3 gear selling for a bit, what you said about quickly getting to level 2-3 and then by-passing it, I feel, has a lot to do with this. The fact that people level past these so fast means there are FAR fewer of these in circulation, as you are likely to make it to level 3-4 with only getting 15 or so drops. Most of these 15 are likely to be mats or junk, and not even gear, so there are much less in supply.

Now, as for who would actually buy these low level weapons, in low stock, at a hefty price, which, very quickly, become irrelevant…only one thing comes to mind…‘farmers’. These low level gears do have a niche market indeed, as they can be accessed very quickly, can be stored in the bank for future use, and have valuable stats at such a low level.

These are the only LOGICAL reasons I can think of w/o invoking any ‘extra entities’. I’m not saying they’re right but, they do have merit.

What about Condition Duration?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tman.6349

Tman.6349

OK. I’ll give this a go just for the sake of understanding the difference here.

Critical damage is being changed to ‘Ferocity’ in order to balance the stat across multiple pieces of equipment. Before this change there was no way to use a fraction of a percentage for the Crit Dam stat. This caused the 14 pieces of equipment to ‘round up’ the Crit Dam stat for roughly an “EXTRA” (unbalanced) 10% Crit Damage. The ‘Ferocity’ stat allows them to balance this discrepancy out where now they can have closer to the ‘intended’ value for this stat. Crit Damage is scaled off of DIRECT damage, which is where the difference comes in.

Condition Damage is ALWAYS calculated by the second allowing FAR LESS ‘packets’ of damage to be delivered. Condi Damage ticks by the second to the ‘next whole second’. It is not as sensible to have fractions of percentages here because Condi Dam has no way to ‘stack’ in the manner that Crit Dam does. Boons are in a similar situation where their ‘stacking’ mechanism is built in to the application itself much like conditions are.

It is also important to note that Crit Dam can never OVERwrite other Crit Damage and this is another huge difference between Condi and Crit damages. Conditions can very easily be balanced through the skills that apply them as the rounded percentages have a ‘hard cap’ of only rounding to the next higher second. For example (referring back to how Crit Dam was ‘stacking’) if I have an ‘extra’ 10% Crit Damage to a 5,000 damage attack, then I have a very measurable difference. However, if I have an ‘extra’ 10% Condition Duration to a ‘4.5 second’ condition, the net result is STILL the exact same five ‘ticks’ of damage.

Two other things of note are: 1) Conditions have many hard and soft counters via condition removals, condition transfers, and overwriting conditions. 2) Abilities/traits that reduce Condition Duration (is. Rune of Melandru, etc) apply to the FINAL applied Condition Duration meaning that ‘- Condition damage’ is actually more potent than + Condition Damage. For example, if I have +50% Condition duration and I cast a 10 second Bleed, my Bleed will tick for 15 seconds. However, if I cast that same Bleed on somebody with -50% Condition Duration, the Bleed will only tick for 8 seconds (7.5 rounded up.)

I went way further into this than I meant too! I might have answered your question and half a dozen others. Hope this helps you understand the vast difference of balancing these things.

Malchior made a very good point about moving. Have you ever tried running in circles around a bad guy as you’re hitting him with your weapon? They usually can’t even do their “big” attack when you do that. Literally run circles around the mobs, whether melee or at range. Are you using your mouse to move, or your keyboard? Don’t forget that you can also reset key bindings to make things easier. My son has never mastered the mouse/keyboard thing. He is still using his mouse to click on weapon and slot skills. You need to train yourself to move efficiently and effectively.

this too. your keyboard setup is uber important at a high skill level. i don’t think i have a single friend that uses the default setup. it is garbage. if you’d like an extremely efficient layout for keyboard use get ahold of me ingame or in pm here on the forums. changing up your key binds can instantly launch you months ahead in efficiency just by making the controls easier.

Guardian or ranger. Guardian because they are very tanky. Ranger because you can let your pet hold agro while you stand off at range and shoot it.

Watch out for advice like this. Play like this guy, and you’ll be terrible forever. Just how bad are you and how new?

My advice? Play an Ele and gear him/her for the highest DMG output your level can afford. Why? Because you won’t get to lean on Aegis. You won’t get to lean on Healing Signet and a high health pool. You’ll learn to dodge, you’ll learn to use your mobility. You’ll learn to mitigate damage. Do this, and you’ll be a much better player for it.

Then if you do play a Guardian, you won’t be the one who wastes all of his Aegis on himself because he can’t stay alive. You wont be the Warrior ranging any remotely difficult boss because you didn’t learn how to dodge but just ‘face-tanked’ easy mobs. You wont be the Ranger QQing because no group will take him in full PVT/Bearbow.

this is exactly what i was gonna say then i read down a few…this all the way. the quote is the perfect advice for what never to do in GW2…ever.

A lot of Bandits use pistols and, most likely, you have hit them with Feedback causing your Pistol counter to register a kill. The Bandits at Saemas in CM p3 by the house would be a likely place to rack up some Feedback kills for a Mesmer and these bandits use pistols. If you’ve ever ran CM p3 much, that is likely where you got them.
