people defending the price by saying its at equilibrium with buyers and sellers are missing the point, this is a designed system.

the op isnt exactly saying its not worth the cost, they are claiming the system shouldnt be designed so that you have to either wait many moons or buy from the tp.

i must say, i am reminded getting most of the prestige items in gw2 is not a very joyful experience.
1000s of mystic coins? as exciting as paying rent.

people paying rent keeps them alive and living a decent life…I’m sure the devs would agree on this or any other part of any market (as I’m sure they are human)

edit: feel free to deconstruct that from an internet connection. (if people want/need things, they will surely find a way to get them or do w/o (since you put it in such simple terms; ‘paying rent’…surely ‘being alive’ is just as grand as a few shiny baubles in a computer game?)

The price of Mystic Coins it fine on its own, the MAJOR problem with MC’s is that they are used in an RnG recipe for clovers that is the problem, Anet need to make a dedicated recipe,

10 Coins, 10 ecto 10 Crystals, 10 Obby Shards = 7 clovers

The last time I made 77 clovers it took me 370 coins to make them, this is NOT ok, its the RnG in that recipe that keeps them prices high.

Or people can do the x1 recipe which averages out better to the drop percentage with the same amount of coins. There’s two much volatility with 37 forges. How’s it any different than doing a recipe that requires 110 of each to yield 80 clovers, do it four times until you succeed, and then complain about the RNG?

this doesn’t even include the suppressed value of ectos for months during/since/after the AB farm (gotta be kidding me) or any of the returned materials based on ‘mis-crafts’ (which is higher generally b/c of the demand (t6 mats etc), not to mention, other methods of acquisition of clovers besides straight crafting (reward tracks ring a bell!?!), and it’s easy to surmise that Clovers were/are, actually, cheaper than they’ve ever been in the game’s history.

edit: I bet if Anet didn’t allow this steady inflow of ectos, after the AB nerf (dab of destabilized ecto/BL Keys), the cost of those mystic clovers would’ve doubled by now…

You can always place an order for them at 50s. If someone agrees that it’s a good idea, they’ll sell it to you.

Failing that, consult guildies, friends, and other trustworthy individuals that think similarly so you can trade internally. A pool of 10-20 people is more than enough to generate the coins needed.

You’d have to wait for the tens of thousands of buy orders with higher prices than 50 silver to be filled before someone would fill yours. So this doesn’t actually work

Oh, so you mean these tens of thousands of people think a higher price than that is reasonable?

Just because you have a buy order out does not mean you think the price is reasonable. If you need coins you need coins, and since its just not practical to gather them yourself, that means resorting to buying them. And if you have to resort to buying them, you have to put up a buy order that actually has a chance at being filled.

‘Just because people actually buy a car for $20k, doesn’t mean they wouldn’t rather only pay $5k.’ But if you feel you need to travel, and so do many other folks, you’re entering the realm of supply and demand. If people didn’t want expensive things, they wouldn’t be expensive. Think how Ferrari would do if everyone in the world decided, ‘Nah! I like cheap slow things w/o appeal to status or self-aggrandizing’….

I recently leveled an engineer, and the flamethrower with condi gear while leveling up is OP as hell. The damage stacks with the flamethrowers ‘1’ attack and hardly anything interrupts you to break the stacking damage while leveling. Boss fights are all throw turrets down, switch to the flame thrower and circle strafe the boss with the ‘1’ autoattacking. 3-4 full flamethrower blasts is enough to take out pretty much all enemies while leveling. Once into the proper endgame this doesn’t work quite as well, but to level up it is incredibly fast and easy.

Engi’s Flamethrower doesn’t work like you think it does at all. The only ‘stacking damage’ it can do is 2 stacks of burning if you have +condi duration (therefore, wasting much better rune/sigil options). Also, “only3-4 full flamethrower blasts” is ~7.5-10 secs. Literally any other weapon in the game can achieve that easily and their are many that will see that same kill in ~1-2 secs. Unless you’re abusing sigils (or using them cleverly) and even then Ft Engi is a terrible choice for leveling.

Edit: Sw/P+SB Thief is, hands down, the easiest to level in the game and has access to great damage modifiers early on (as well as mobility). Go ahead and get map completion while you’re at it!

Again, those patchnotes are just referring to the general stability stacking changes (duration -> intensity). There are notes like this for every stability skill. Just check it ingame, if you don’t believe me. And i’m talking about minor traits in traitlines that are taken anyways, not only for the dmg. And metabattle isn’t always accurate. That “metabuild” was never used at tournaments and even in ranked, most were playing s/d and SoS + SotR instead of lb + SotW. At least in higher divisions.

one more time now if the changes was only to Stacks why include the when activated caveat? Let’s look at other Stacks changes that state no such caveat….

Activation is when the skill is clicked.

Might stacks have been increased from 8 to 10, with the duration increased from 8 seconds to 10 seconds. -blood is power change July 2016 no mention upon activation….but stacks were changed.

Updated this skill to grant 3 stacks of might for 15 seconds, increased from 1 stack of might for 15 seconds.- Call of the Wild stacks changed no mention of any when activated. Sep 2015

Increased the number of might and vulnerability stacks applied from 1 to 3.-Equalizing Blow, again no Mention of When Activated. April 2016

This skill now grants 1 stack of stability for 5 seconds per target struck in addition to its own initial stack of stability, which has been increased from 1 second to 5 seconds. Stomp April 2016 stacks changed no activation caveat….

See a trend here yet?

You said the Meta Build did not use it I pointed out it does since Metabattle is the compilation of “Meta” builds, and most players go off of the Metabattle builds like it’s a be all end all.

Let’s see Signet of the Wild was used in the Groucharoo tournament by a few Rangers and was banned in the Tournament of Legends so no wonder it wasn’t used there, and the last official Tournament, the Meta was a lot different and the unblockable bug did not exist.

And yes having 1 skill slot vs multiple traits across multiple traitlines is less investment, and some of those traits aren’t minors only 2 are…. just sayin the others are major traits Havok Mastery, Executioner, Bound, Staff Mastery……

Activated=the skill’s active effect. Activated=/=a potential skill going off.

Simple as that. You can click that skill a million times and the QUICKest that you’ll get Stab from it is in half a second.

Otherwise, what would stop Rangers from spamming cast interrupts of perma 5 stacks of stability? That would have definitely made more noise by now…

Edit: and the Devs would fix that kitten in a minute or less

So how are you doing on Boosters and/or what are they worth to you?

That is the point. They didn’t replace some ‘random item’.

They only took Boosters out of the rolls and replaced it with a seasonal item. And then gave you a rare chance for a 4th roll. That’s it.

Now do I think a Magic Find Booster, or several of the others, is better than a Wintersday Present? Of course I do, but the rolls are better no doubt.

So before the change, you were just one of the many unlucky chaps that seemed to ALWAYS get a Booster in one of their chest slots? “3 random items” was never a thing.

Here’s what happened…people who liked to(?), or at least did, buy chest keys all the time, complained a ton b/c ‘these stupid boosters!’. Of course they had too many and it seemed like a waste of a slot. So Anet changed that slot to a rotating item. Something their ‘big fish’ could feel like wasn’t as much of a waste. That was, until all those people used all their stacks of boosters and realized what a qol it had been all along.

Now boosters sell for ‘real gems w/o compensation’, so to speak, and in that slots place you get some seasonal shenanigans. What Anet did next is great, you’ll like this…they added a FOURTH ‘invisible’ slot for only rare items. Yes, this gives you a 4th roll with no stipulations other than gambling luck and funtimes. they also added a couple new items that are small perks to new players, but absolutely HUGE for some veteran players wondering if that 4 yr old skin is worth the 2k gold.

tldr: the chests are better than ever except for brand new players who might prefer a stash of boosters…

I hope they don’t wait to late… Someone told me not till the 20th. Is this true ?; Could the game wait till Christmas is half done before releasing the event ???

2 days after Christmas? pssss in Puerto Rico we still have new years after Christmas, then on January 6 the 3 kings (if that is how you call it in English). After that 8 more days (octavitas) of party and Christmas.

For sure! An island with perfect, year-round, temperatures, can HARDLY come up with enough reasons to party!

"Scourge" feature wishlist

Tman.6349

why does it have to be shroud? if that’s the limit of your imagination, I find that saddening. Necro’s can be so much more if they are given a fundamentally different F skill mechanic, which in regards to elite specs isn’t a far fetched idea. Shroud is the main reason we don’t have active defenses. It’s a poor reason due to how fast shroud just melts when anything looks in your direction.

Changing the f skill to something other than another shroud is the first step to helping fix necro’s problems.

What’s the point of a class once you remove it’s defining mechanic?

it won’t remove anything, it will add other options, which the elite specs were designed to do

You do know that it is a contradiction when you say it wont remove anything but at the same time you say the following

Honestly I want shroud to be done away with and gone.

or in other words “I want shroud be removed”?

You will most likely dont like it but the chances are pretty high that all our future elite specs will have a shroud of some sorts. Also elite specs arent designed to remove class mechanics (which our shroud clearly is) but give them some twist.

So if you shroud want to be gone, you best hope is that Anet for some reason decides to complely rework necro. While i cannot say that wont happen i would say the probability of something like that happening is pretty low.

In his or her defense, the suggestion from Hot specs, is that Elites who only receive an offhand for their new elite spec get a profession mechanic change/addition. What if the Scourge allows base necromancer DS with an f2 that puts them into a defensive skillet which share a Life force bar? Huh? Now we’re going places. Granted, base DS is a mishmash of condi/power and should be revamped, this is a serious idea to consider. Some traits say ‘go power’ while others scream ’ condi is the only way’ in SR and that’s not a bad thing. Where they would go with a torch and still leave The Scourge open to different interpretations is where it would get tricky.

I don’t dictate what Anet wants, I just observe how the game works … for more than 4 years now this is how it’s worked. I don’t need to guess. I open my eyes, I read dev posts, I study JS’s threads and posts. i see other mats that cost more and others that cost less … nothing makes Mystic coins exceptional here. Anet doesn’t set the prices and they don’t have target values for mats. Prices are determined by what players are willing to post to sell and others are willing to pay.

This isn’t about Anet does or doesn’t change stuff .. it’s about if what people are suggesting is sensible and inline with how the game works. Just claiming the price is unreasonable to solicit change is NOT how the game works, ever. Anet does intervene, but not because a few people aren’t willing to pay the PT value for mats. That’s just ridiculous and we have been told as much.

The fact is that Mystic coins as a mat, it’s any different than any other mat on the TS and the price isn’t unreasonable just because a fraction of players don’t want to pay current values for them. It’s simply perspective … and as people think a narrow perspective is appropriate to need this changed? So explain to me why Anet needs to intervene all of the sudden to address the ‘problem’ because of perspective?

Here is some alternate perspective for you … people think mystic coins are too expensive? I think they are too cheap. here is the kicker .. you’re going to tell me that my perspective is ‘wrong’ because of ‘not fair’ or some other BS like that … why? because ’i’m greedy’ or whatever. You guys don’t get that there is no such thing as a ‘fair price’. The price is whatever people are willing to pay ; fair’s got nothing to do with it. The market isn’t driven by fairness.

Not that I think Anet should intervene, but “Mystic Coins, as a mat” ARE entirely different than any other mat in the game. Name a single other mat that has a hard cap purely based on the amount of players current at a particular time. I’m already aware of your appeal to asc. mats, but those are available in BF, randomly, with enough grind/luck. To say, ’they’re the same as any other mat’ is dishonest. I have thousands though and don’t care of the price, for crafting’s sake.

Edit: maybe an argument could be made for quartz as well, but I think that is more of a ‘why bother?’ than an ‘I just can’t’ argument, in most people’s eyes, even though it’s pretty much the same.

There is plenty of reason to increase supply. 82 of them as someone mentioned earlier… I happen to believe its more then that as there are numerous food/consumable recipes that take these as well. The problem is that they tie in with legendaries. As i said before, these are obtainable at about the same rate of T6 mats droprates, so it doesnt make sense to keep them that rare.

The cost is not a good reason. Neither is the recipes they are used in. If people can’t get past the FACT that the TP is driven by supply and demand and make suggestions that are inline with that philosophy, you are wasting your time. Price reflects all that, so the idea that the price is ‘wrong’ and demand needs to change makes little sense. We also know Anet monitors all these things and will adjust if they think it needs to be.

but you cant farm it yourself. i cant sell laurels on the tp.

Thread isn’t about laurels so …

laurels are=to mystic coins. both on a cap. yet laurels arent sellable. you said you can farm it like any other resource. which is a lie.

He means that the ‘value’ of picking one ore the other is, relatively, equal. The ‘farming’ is either based on a ‘perceived value of mats vs logins’ or, which leads to very due diligence, what makes coins the better choice. That is, of course, extrapolated from, ‘ascended gear.doesn’t matter anymore’ OR ‘if I could only finish this collection!’.

Either way, the value is subjective, but equal….(if that could ever make sense…)

It’s possible that in the early days of GW2 the Black Citadel / Hoelbrak / Rata Sum / Divinity’s Reach / Grove could reward keys… but I don’t remember that far back (dang my old-age to heck). Even if so, it’s been a long time since that was the case.

Interaction with traps/aoe cc

in PvP

Posted by: Tman.6349

Tman.6349

I think what they’re getting at is how teleport skills interact with other skills. E.g on thief I get caught inside DH lb 5 skill. I use shadowstep to get out but at the location I port to I’m still knocked down.

Same for the trap that you have to cross to take dmg. A fair few port skills trigger the effect as if you walked through even though you didn’t. It’s like they coded the teleports as invisible walking paths. So the game sees you as technically walking to the target location instead of just actually teleporting.

Effect seems to trigger on other skills too like line of warding, static field and other skills designed to trigger when you run through them. It has been around for a while but I agree does need a fix as you can end up wasting skills trying to escape that should allow you to.

This is a pretty solid breakdown and SF has been a long time ‘offender’, since launch. Before HoT, I always chalked it up to balance design.

If you don’t mind pvp/doing the dailies every day, do them. Every reward track gives clovers. They can add up after a while. I was sitting at 173 there for a bit, and I haven’t made any clovers since I made bifrost like 8 months into the game.

Again, I realize this doesn’t fix the mystic coin issue, nor is it an answer for everyone. But if you can get even half the clovers from PvP, imagine how many coins you saved.

Here's how to balance elite with core

in PvP

Posted by: Tman.6349

Tman.6349

Why players still insist to pretend that the Core main class need to be strong as the Elite Specializzation?
Didin’t know them that ANet Never wanted to make Core stronger as the Elite?

There’s 2 fast and easy reasons for this choice:

1) ANet announced the choice to release More Elite Specializzations, making the Core class a mere Base to improve the game by Different Elite Specializzations that will increase the Build Diversity, grant new Roles to all the classes, eventually Specialize the class into a pre existent Role they already fill but in a different or more focused way and force players into hard build choices to make different and strong builds based on they’re situation (PvP, WvW, PvE and all the roles/casistics they means). They’re as an Evolution of the main class.

2) They sell HoT and the main game only why there’s the chance to obtain that Elite Specializzations. Strip off the ES by HoT and no one will buy the game and everyone will play in F2P forever losing only a raid and 3 legendary weapons that was supposed to be the legendary weapons of the poor players but became much more expensive than the old ones. It’s marketing. no one make MMORPG of that level for free.

After that 2 really good reasons why ANet will never make the Core strong as the Elite, there’s the problem that they never announced any other Elite Specializzation and they probably will not announce any of them for still a long long time.

We have only to hope and wait for a better future and some new specializzations.
But put your hear in peace: the Specializzation is the Evolution of the Core Basic Class and the Core will never be strong as it’s evolution.

“/shrug…that’s how powercreep works and Anet wants our money. All is good!”

How didn’t any of us consider this already!?! Bravo for the explanation…

How long before people realise sluringshh used our oldest trick in the book

Its weird but after rereading it i remebered my old post

I noticed right away, BUT (!!!), how long before other people realize that 3 year old posts are (STILL) pretty much an accurate description of where we’re at up to this very day….even to the point that it’s so easily confused as a modern thread. /sigh

Here's how to balance elite with core

What if the trait line that enhances your profession mechanic was turned in to a elite specialization (discipline, trickery, soul reaping, beast mastery, illusions, tools, invocation, virtues, arcane). This way they can giving us some build diversity (before another expansion), you ether stick with the vanila elite specs (and therefor the base class name) and 2 other core ones or the HoT elite spec (and change to the different class name) and 2 other core ones.
Of course there would have to be some rebalancing done to make the ‘new’ vanila elite competitive in power to the HoT elite, but we can all agree that the game is in need of balance as is so it woild not be a big deal.

The reason i bring this idea up is because thees specializations are used in almost every build anyway (most warrior builds take discipline, every thief pick trickery, every guardian build pick up virtues, infact only mesmer, engineer and ele do not pick theirs currently) and by making them elite the players would be forced in to a choice, and non HoT players will have access to a competitive build. This is assuming they balance them according to the power level of HoT elite specs, and every future elite spec.

I still believe this is the best course of balance in regards to the elite discrepancy. If they want elites to be above the base lines and for builds to consist of 1 elite and 2 non-elite lines fine, but this way they will make sure all players have access to one (even without a expansion) and they will force some build diversity in to the game before another expansion.

Foste, you and I have been suggesting this for 7+ months now. I don’t think it’s gonna happen, despite being so obvious. The E in ‘ESpecs’ should have NEVER referred to ‘Elite’ but, rather to ‘EXCLUSIVE’! I don’t know how to be anymore emphatic about this as I feel like a broken record by now. Make the 5th line an ‘exclusive spec’ and then balance accordingly from there. Simple.

How many expansions till we see ‘supermegaOPjasonbournespecs’ Anet? Surely that will sell an expansion too… :/

Sniper thief is about the worst possible balance decision they could make for the class, though. It’d have game-wide consequences if balanced just even within the confines of the next batch of elites. It’s just too strong.

Yea, it fits conceptually, but it’s not even remotely possible to balance reasonably well without giving other professions mechanics which invalidate all other existing builds. That’s unreasonable just for the additions to one class.

Rifle in that case is either sustained damage with no stealth and no burst or a control-oriented weapon with low damage. I can safely say any sniping ability with even close to a 2.0 coefficient is game-breaking for the thief at 1200-1500 range with stealth capacity.

Oh plz! Whatever! Don’t even pretend like crit Killshots from stealth, at 1200 range, would be close to broken. It’s not even like Thief has the highest crit damage modifiers in the game either.

Why the unrelenting pressure to do JPs?

I’d just like to know why it is so important to push platforming as “normal” game play and why it is not considered an activity and put in that category.

Maybe because it’s normal gameplay?

I realize it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s okay, but I consider jumping around a pretty core gameplay element, between vistas and jumping puzzles, so I have to disagree when it’s treated like something totally unheard of.

If I had to speculate, I would guess that they added jumping puzzles to the Daily roster because a lot of jumping puzzles are thematically interesting areas that people might not visit or re-visit a lot. They’re more a commitment than some older dailies, but that goes hand-in-hand with the higher reward for daily completion since they added gold, plus you can often find a portal to the end, which helps the people who don’t like jumping puzzles while building a sense of players helping players.

That’s a lot of boxes to tick right there, so it seems pretty appealing.

Not to mention, those portals and general help at those JPs allow newer players to actually DOUBLE their AP gain (cheevies) for their daily that day. It’s not like there aren’t nearly a dozen other options for the Dailies as an alternative. The QQ is QQ and greatly exaggerated. ‘Pressure’…yeah, OK…

They should have made Deathly Chill something like “your conditions deal 15% increased damage to chilled foes.”

No more Chill damage, is now group-play friendly, and still highly relevant.

Yeah. Something similar in function to Thief’s new Lead Attacks would be great. Basically an ‘Effect’ version of Vuln.

Trait-Deathly Chill: when you apply Chill to a foe, you receive one stack of Deathly Chills (or w/e buff name) for 15 secs.
Effect-Deathly Chill: Increase Condition damage and Direct damage by 3%
maximum of 5 stacks.

*revert Chill Duration nerfs as that has also negatively impacted Might stacking and Life Force generation from chilling victory. (Maybe that was part of the point, but when all combined, this has been a heavy nerf to two important traits.)

Mesmer by far. They are so dependant on traits that their leveling process is far and away the most monotonous. It gets much easier (not that it’s hard per se) once you get most of their potential unlocked, but getting over that hump can be mind numbing for a while.

What if they added a 4th line?

I’d be so fascinated to see how some of you approach/handle actual real life problems, inconveniences and injustices after reading just a portion of this thread. Just two weeks ago, my Spleen bursts at 7 am on an otherwise insignificant day. I spent 10 days in ICU with massive internal bleeding and pain that can’t be put into words. Then I get out and am trying to do something I enjoy, with my 6+ weeks of no work and minimal movement and hop over to read about today’s patch and see how " this change to my 10×10 inventory system has ruined my life Anet!"…is this all satire or…

If you like your Scrapper and your Reaper well enough, I’d say go with Rev and have some cancer in each type of armor…for flavor, of course.

Jokes aside, if you mainly PvE, it doesn’t matter tbh. BUT you do have 2 80s that aren’t exactly top picks for a team foundation. Maybe look into that aspect with something like Ele etc.

Eh… I’m not hugely fond of Elementalist, but thats just because I feel kind of overwhelmed with the attunements. (YES I know, this coming from an Engineer, but even then I don’t use kits that much) That and I’m not exactly sure how fun they are with the whole warhorn thing.

And yes, I know I picked the two professions most folks hate on, but I just enjoyed how they looked and played when I first made them.

Tempest doesn’t lock you into using Wh by any stretch, and I’m not referring to any animosity towards Engi or Necro either. My real point is that I think you might be best off with a profession that has strong team synergy as a foundation for team playeither with friends or LFG groups. Ele aside, Guardian or Warrior could be good choices for you. Simple team roles to fullfil and very effective at them. Even Rev really depending on what your buddies tend to play.

As stated already, the lvl-80 trial is awesome and you should use it for consideration. Mechanically speaking, Elite specs really only change how a couple of professions are played tbh. So the trial isn’t gonna be vastly different than what you’ll play afterward with the exception of Mesmer and Druid who’s Elite specs add a ton of team synergy over their core counterparts.

I’ll help you understand…

Anet, over time, dumbed the game down to the standards of the most casual player possible (‘from Candy Crush to my first MMO’ kind of folks) which has made the entry level experience, for anyone that’s even played a single any kind of RPG ever, mind numbing and tedious and ultimately a turnoff. This is a way to get people in the door and show them there’s hope and fun some sunny day when you can actually make a build and have some options while also seeing that others eventually end up having fun too.

Leveling a Mesmer for instance… /sigh

(OH! plus marketing shenanigans of course.)
