Longer matchups would only make sense with a complete redesign of the sieging mechanisms to shift the strategy from flipping and leaving to taking and holding.

If a T3 keep can be flipped within 15 minutes, there is absolutely no reason to drag the matches any longer.

I assume you mean you are bored, not boring (if not, have a little more self confidence!)

A GW2 youtuber called WoodenPotatoes did a video not too long ago on what he does to keep his enjoyment of GW2. He mentioned creating personal challenges for himself in dungeons, like speed clearing AC with a duo, or placing certain restrictions upon himself to complete content. Create your own goals, whether it’s doing X in dungeon Y, or collecting every single torch skin, etc.

Other than that, there’s the social aspect. In most games I’ve played, the people in the games have kept me there to enjoy the game regardless of how long I’ve been playing or how much/littlke there is left to do

That’s good advice, too. I also saw a guy that decided to craft another legendary just to give it away and make regular youtube video updates about the progress.

Also, if you are feeling creative, start creating your own events/competitions. Whether with your guild or just a bunch of random players who happen to be on your map. I remember one guy doing “First to find me in LA gets X gold!” regularly. With the megaservers you could plausibly do that on any map you like.

And if creativity suits you, there is always the roleplaying community that will have stories for you until the end of time (or at least, the end of GW2).

Whats a way to make Dual Class work?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I think the game has quite a bit of room to tinker as it is, especially in WvW where you can mix and match stats pretty freely and add buffs from WXP and food. Plus also being able to switch traits and weapons between fights.

I know it’s not enough for some, but for me the bazillion different variations you can make from the 8 different professions is already quite a bit to chew.

Obviously I still wouldn’t mind another profession, switchable 1-5 skills for existing weapons and/or new weapons for the professions. The fact just is the more they add, the bigger the weight of the balancing effort will be.

If you’ve been playing continuously since beta I’d recommend you to take a break. That’s honestly the best way to make the game feel fresh again. A month, two months, six months. Just pop in at new LS launches to unlock them and log out again until you get that itch again. I guarantee it’s going to come back and when it does, you’ll have a big load of content and stuff to do.

Now after that launch and a few days of playing it, it will be less than a week to this. That’s when I start to get hyped

One of the main reasons they even made GW2 was the horrible mess the balancing of the dual classing in GW1 had become for them.

The last thing we want is that the devs will need to dedicate 90% of their resources to balancing the (dual) classes.

Create a Weapon.

Tom Gore.4035

I’ve been thinking this one quite a bit. Here are my suggestions:

Battleaxe – Essentially a two handed axe. Warriors, Guardians and Necromancers (with some scythe-ish skins for necros).
Playstyle would be very DPS oriented with fewer control options than Hammer, and fewer mobility options than Greatsword.

Hand Crossbow – One handed ranged weapon. Engineers, Thieves (both hands) and Rangers.
Playstyle would be a slow, but heavy hitting ranged weapon.

Quarterstaff – Two handed melee-style weapon for Elementalists and Mesmers.

On top of that I would love to see current weapons expanded to the existing professions.

Rifles for Rangers, Shortbows for Warriors, Axes for Thieves, Maces for Rangers, Hammers for Necros, Longbows for Elementalists, Any melee weapon for Engineers, Daggers for Mesmers and Warhorns for Guardians.

Or hung around a necromancer? Some of those minions get a little ripe out in the sun.

And rangers. Three words: wet dog smell.

Dogs can’t swim in GW2 and it doesn’t rain in too many maps.

Monthly has Been Killed...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tom Gore.4035

Tom Gore.4035

I find that the monthlies having been dropped disincentivizes me from doing certain things I would’ve done in the past.

When I see an event notification pop up, and it’s an event I don’t particularly like, I used to participate anyway, because I got a cookie when I finished 25/50/75/100 events. Even when I got to 100 for the month, I still participated, out of habit.

Now, I find myself thinking “why bother?” more often than not. The vast majority of events are hardly worth the time it takes to complete them, and after having done them quite often over the years, many have gotten stale. I just run along to wherever I was going.

The same goes for jumping puzzles. I just run past now, where I would usually do them if I hadn’t done particular ones that month. With jumping puzzles completely gone from the periodic achievement picture, I suspect they’ll see a lot less people complete them. Some are especially uninteresting now, as they don’t even have chests at the end. For example, I used to do Wall Breach Blitz at least once a month. I regularly visit the Diessa Plateau to get iron and tussle with the giant. When I got near the Blitz, I’d complete it if I hadn’t done it for the month or joined in if I saw some people struggling up there. Yesterday, I ran past with that old “why bother” feeling.

Also, all the WvW I’ve been doing has been to creep up on unsuspecting dolyaks and deserted ruins. Killing invaders has lost it’s much of what little appeal it had left for me.

In short, I feel disincentivized from doing certain content now. Part of that is definitely the annoyance of not being rewarded for it anymore while I was before. On top of all the other things I used to enjoy that have been eroded over the last year, the game is losing more and more appeal to me.

Event participation is a very valid point and I think Anet should look into that. One easy way would be to give more (useful) uses for Karma than just Obsidian Shards and gearing alts with their first exotic set (both pretty valid uses alright).

Jumping Puzzles are also a bit “left out” now after you’ve done them all. Empyreal fragments drop like crazy from the bandit chests, so much that they had to introduce a fragment eating item like they did for the Bloodstone dust. Previously JPs and open world chests were one of the main ways of getting the frags if you didn’t like dungeons, and of course to get the 12 unique ones in a month for the monthly. Now, I can’t really figure out any valid reasons for doing JPs except for the heck of it.

Tom Gore.4035

I’m in a very play-intensive period myself now, clocking pretty much all available free time (which as a man with a full-time job and a family isn’t that much) into the game. Currently working on several different goals:

Catching up on the Story Journal Achievements
→ Working on the Luminescent parts at the same time

Collecting sprockets for watchwork mechanism to finally finish the ascended spinal blades.

Leveling my Elementalist and the last two crafting disciplines (tailoring and artificer).

Collecting charged quartz to prepare a celestial set for said Elementalist.

Getting the last 6 WvW ranks towards bronze (and beyond).

Collecting Foxfire to advance towards Mawdrey.

And when I finish those or get bored with them:

Work on my Dungeon Master Title and open the dungeon reward tracks for all dungeons by replaying the story instances. For Arah I will need to finish the personal story for one of my alts so I can kill two birds with one stone on that.

Finish the Tequatl and Wurm achievement masteries.

Reach 10k achievement points (doesn’t really need anything else than to just do the stuff above).

Finish forging the remaining Ascended weapons (missing mace, shield, staff, focus and scepter – not going to craft underwater ascended before we get bubbles) and perhaps
finish my main warrior’s ascended armor set (missing gloves and shoulders). Also will probably craft some duplicates once the weapon set is complete and perhaps ascended chest/leggings for my alts.

Collect enough laurels to purchase ascended celestial trinket set.

And obviously doing daily every day, trying to hit as many there as I can, but at least the minimum 3 to get the achi points. At the moment of course there’s also the Wintersdaily for the laurel.

So no, I’m not going to run short of stuff to do anytime soon…

If people are running supplies, it’s either to do a 15+ golem rush or a castle is about to fall after an extended siege. Supply camps can’t help in either case, and the enemy probably controls the roads and the camps in the later case. So, if you’re arguing against ferrying supply, you are primarily arguing against these two situations.

If the castle is about to fall after an extended siege and all supply is being controlled by the siegers, they have succeeded in their sieging. I don’t see a problem there.

Why would allowing a 15+ golem rush using off-map supply be a good idea?

Time for my bah humbug post.

Why is it that we have so many positive posts from people in PvE, yet in WvW all we see are complaints?

Surely this is a sign which Anet is still ignoring….
Of course you cannot make everyone happy, but that doesnt mean you have to neglect WvW completely, so much so that it is now in it’s current stale state.

Sure, there is more focus on PvE than WvW, but that’s just because there are more players interested in PvE than WvW. Plain and simple.

Plus you will always hear the PvP crowd whining about stuff, because that’s what PvP players do.

Don’t get me wrong I’d love to get more WvW content as it is the end game for me in GW2.

Speaking of writing plots for episodic drama, such as TV-series or games like this, I think Babylon 5 sets the baseline for writing. The series was written to be specifically 5 seasons long, with the plot set before the pilot was ever filmed. This in an era where you will never get funding for a TV-series for more than one season ahead.

This allowed the writers to put in a lot of stuff you saw clearly, but didn’t realize until it came apparent later in the story and wen’t “holy kitten it was there the whole time!”

I hope Anet has written the plotline for GW2 until the very end of the game’s future, then went back and added small stuff along the way that we won’t or just can’t figure out before we come to the spot where they are revealed, but immediately can connect to previous stuff and get that “holy kitten” feeling.

But I’m afraid they’ve just got very vague lines of what they plan to do and the plot is being written as we go…

EotM has stupidly good ideas wrapped in a stupidly straightforward and meaningless package.

1. The layered design in many places is interesting and allows several pathways within an otherwise small map.

2. The objectives are all different and interesting in their own way. Cool bonuses, and sentry turret is an excellent idea that should be brought to WvW ASAP (and then we could get rid of the white/orange swords permanently).

3. The NPCs have unique skills and are dangerous to the unprepared.

All destroyed by the fact that there is no connection to the faction you’re representing. I hope Anet is taking notes for the eventual (faraway) redesign of the borderlands and/or addition of new WvW areas.

Or if nothing else, just add EotM as one of the WvW maps and connect it to the “real” WvW experience. It would be a very cool map if it would give PPT.

Having Supply zeroed out at each map hop is a bad idea.

Map hopping is a meta strategy/tactic.

Yeah but as I said, making it zero out at map load would bring out a new strategy to replace that one – defending the supply camps and truly fighting the supply war. If you could starve your enemy for supply on a certain map, they would have to start the war from taking a camp or two, which would probably end up in having more big group open world fights – which should be awesome, no?

Would be nice to see a supply camp all sieged up for defense

How will GW2 last long enough?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tom Gore.4035

Tom Gore.4035

Well WoW is 10 years old and they’re still getting expansions. As long as there’s enough players (read: gemstore purchases) they can keep developing stuff. The game engine can easily last another 7-8 years, because it has a very unique and nice art style that doesn’t age that quickly.

Plus I still don’t see any even remotely interesting MMOs coming out this year or next year. Black Desert and other Asian MMOs will never gain much traction here in the west – just look at ArcheAge and FFXIV for an example.

EverQuest Next might rattle the cages, but it could very well be 2016 before we will see even a glimpse of it. Blizzard cancelled their “next-gen” MMO.

In short, I don’t see any reason in the foreseeable future why GW2 should cease to exist.

Ranger in WvW after balance patch

in WvW

Posted by: Tom Gore.4035

As a warrior, I still find rangers to be the easiest to kill when roaming.. by a large gap.

Dodge the rapidfire, pop an invuln, use shield + missile reflect trait, etc. then break the range gap and spank away.

Every class will have a counter for it.. and sadly half the rangers out there will go full potato after rapidfire is evaded or blocked

Yeah but you’re not really beating the class. You’re just beating bad players, which seem to be abundant in the ranger class representation. Power Ranger is popular with baddies because it’s so brain dead simple to play.

You’re not supposed to hop between maps to bring supplies. In fact, Anet should just change it so that when you load into a WvW map you lose all supplies carried.

“You’re not supposed.”

Is this something ArenaNet have said themselves or is this just some wishful thinking on your side?

I don’t know, I quite like the map hopping to grab supplies to help another map, it gives a little bit more spice to it all. But I don’t think it should give priority into the other maps, it should just stay like this. If you want to map hop to help, beware of the consequences.

I admit it’s just my view, but I base it on the fact that disabling supply “smuggling” from other maps would place more importance on holding and protecting the supply camps, and make the war on each map more strategic.

I’ve in the past also voiced an opinion that players should not be able to carry supply in their pockets at all, instead having to transport it with dolyaks or as bundles, further bringing sieging in WvW closer to a real siege instead of “run in, cap before defense can react, leave”.

But yeah. Not gonna happen. The supply smuggling is something that might disappear sometime in the future, though. We’ll see.

Does anyone actually want a Season 3?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tom Gore.4035

Tom Gore.4035

Yes, I do want a Season 3.

Why?! There is nothing to do in the game besides farming skins!

This game is just horrible now! Why? Because there is not much of a game left here! And LS is not helping.

No it isn’t. Why bother to even post this garbage? Go back to wow.

I feel the same way he does, and you know what? I just purchased a subscription to WoW. Do you know how incredibly satisfying it is going around doing mundane fetch quests than it is to do hearts? The quests given at least have some back story as to why you’re doing it instead of just “kill golems so the Inquest can stop ruining Orr with Skritt technology”

I’ve hit 1,000 dungeons done on my hobby dungoneer. It took me that long to realize that this game was one huge grindfest for skins. Even making legendary weapons, weapons that are supposed to a LEGENDARY feat, can be bought with cash and aren’t anything special but rather a legendary grindfest.

Living Story is a lot of wasted time to stretch bad content. And with this in mind Anet has the guts to charge 200 gems if we’ve missed a part of this bad story.

How is it two years since release and we’re only now getting into the idea of killing another dragon? If they value the gemshop over actual content then why not use their resources to make a full expansion?

I don’t care if it’s season 3 or a new expansion I just want more content, not gemstore items, not achievements. They can even take the easy road and implement hard mode like they did in GW1 to reuse old content, I don’t care, just give me something to do other than dungeons every. single. day.

There is a backstory and reason for all the heart quests, too. You can find it out by talking to the Heart Quest NPC. You can of course choose not to, just like you can choose not to read the quest text in WoW.

I get it that you want more PvE content, but what are you going to do when you’ve played through all the content in WoW? Granted, if this is your first time playing WoW it’s going to take a while, but eventually you’re going to run out and all you have left is… wait for it. Dungeons (and Raids)! Over and over again to grind for more equipment!

Arguably WoW might have a bit more content per year coming out, since their team is just massive. Whether or not the content is really good is another thing. I also liked WoW in my time, loved it even. I just think the game’s mechanics and graphics are horribly dated and the subscription on a 10 year old game is a joke. It’s not that I couldn’t afford it. I just don’t like the idea that I’m paying for just being able to log into the game (whether or not I actually do).

shouldn’t we be looking at the i5 5690 now at the moment? Thought the 5th generation was arriving already? Nice DDR 4 and support for new hardware?

Of course everything will be a bit more expensive though…

Well we’ll see. I bought my 3960 when it was a good moment to buy. even though the 4960 was already available (just 3oo euro’s more expensive for 100 Mhz gain at the time…)

Not until later in 2015. Also, DDR4 memory is horribly expensive compared to the relatively small performance boost. There is a reason gamers don’t overclock their memories much anymore. There is just no real benefit.

4960 costs around 300€, so did you get your 3960 (you mean 3570? because 3690 does not exist) free? If you did, it was certainly a good deal.

i7 3930K, 3960X and i7 4930K, 4960X used to be more expensive 2 yrs ago… i7 5930K(560euro), i7 5960X(~900-1000 euro….) are available now, so even the i7 4930K a (~450-550 euro) and i7 4960X (850 euro)is more cheap now

I bought my 3930K for 300 euro. It was on sale at the time. and I mean just the CPU…

-I corrected my post above, I fumbled the numbers, have been looking into a 5960X and 2011-v3 mainboard…. -

Ah you were talking about the Extreme edition CPUs. That’s nice and all but I don’t think those would fall into the OPs budget. Also, their single-core performance is not that much better than the 4-core i5 and i7s, so again no performance gain in GW2, unless they some day redo their engine to properly utilize more than 1-2 cores

Hello to everyone again. My final decision is to buy Intel Core i7 4770k and my final question is shall I stay with 8GB Ram ( 1.600Mhz ) or 16GB of Ram same Mhz? Thanks

Good choice, especially if you got a good discount compared to the newer 4790k (which has 400Mhz faster base clock and has more overclocking potential). 8GB memory will be plenty for GW2, but if you can afford 16GB it won’t be overkill either. Some of the (new generation) games we will be seeing in the future can be very memory-intensive.

What graphics card you got? It will also make a big difference in GW2 performance, although it looks like the game is pretty CPU bound when there are a lot of players around.

EDIT: I see you’ve got a R9 270X. It’s decent, but you won’t be running at Ultra with good FPS. That’s the next part you should upgrade after the CPU. I would recommend checking out the upcoming GTX 960 from Nvidia. It’s bound to be a monster at its price, and no one knows how the upcoming AMD cards will line up against the current Nvidia offerings.

shouldn’t we be looking at the i5 5690 now at the moment?

I disagree.

First: The general concept/design stimulates gambling on the stock exchange too much.
Second: The general concept/design devalues crafting because it is often cheaper to buy items on the TP than to craft them yourself.

Why is the first part bad? If you don’t want to do it, you can forget about it and just use the TP to get the things you want and sell the stuff you don’t need.

The second part would happen even in a localized market, but obviously in a smaller scale. The TP is a volume market. If you want to make profit you either find a small niche with high margin, or work with large volumes with smaller margins.

Crafters can also earn money on the TP no matter what their skill level is. Just need to be able to use some free online tools to figure out what to craft. The fact that some items are cheaper to buy from TP than to craft yourself just tells that the item in question is not in very high demand and/or the materials required to craft it are abundant.

Combat. I’d be alright with more (selectable) skills for existing weapons and new weapons altogether, but even as it is now, it’s by far the most enjoyable combat I’ve experienced in an MMO.

It has spoiled me so that I just cannot touch traditional tabtarget hotkeyspam combats like WoW anymore. I just can’t.
