And if you come telling me you don’t need more gold either then… well I don’t know what to say then.

That is what I thought, after I clicked it, the musical notes opened up, but the item disappeared from my inventory, is there anywhere else it could be?

You must be confusing it with the normal one-use choir bell. You get those too from the gifts (by the bucketload, too).

Even if Arena Net is working on an expansion, I highly doubt we’ll heading back to Cantha or Elona, because, you know, Guild Wars 2 takes everything we loved about Guild Wars 1 and throws it out of the window.

Well a lot of time has passed since GW1. They could just redesign it and leave a few ruins that the GW1 players could recognize, like they did with Lion’s Arch and several other places. LA they subsequently demolished completely, but the other ruins from GW1 era are still there.

Caithe probably just slaughters Wynne. Thats the secret. The details are probably in this chapter of the story

Someone will kill Wynne, that’s for sure. I mean we already have her locket. Could be Caithe, could be Faolain (and the latter would also mark the moment when Caithe finally realizes what a psycho her lover is and dumps her), could be the Shadow of the Dragon.

I’m all for having more of a connection between the borderlands and EB where there currently isn’t much. The immediate downside to this concept is illustrated in your first two cons. These two issues cannot be circumvented except by adding additional maps leading to the current system.

The third con is something that isn’t only a problem overnight, but also during non-prime time on low pop servers. You can flip and entire map (aside from maybe SMC) with 2 players as long as you’re unopposed. The only answer to this is to add more passive defense from NPCs, which will likely never happen. What could be done is to have Lords scale like in EotM and PvE (Champs).
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Lord-Room-Scaling/first#post4575082

By placing a keep at the borders as you describe, if I understand correctly, a player would only be able to move to a map other than their home BL if they controlled the border keep. This is something that while adding a certain level of potential strategy would never fly.

Yes I’m quite aware Anet won’t do this, at least as long as their server tech doesn’t allow more players per map with sufficient performance.

Having a world restricted to their home borderland only (even if they did have three keeps to choose from when planning their “escape”) would be nasty, but if the pop caps were significantly higher they would then obviously pool their resources to one map in order to break through. Maybe the home world could even have a higher pop cap on their home maps than the opposing worlds, so that it would be more difficult to “corner” them for a longer period.

It’s going to be interesting to see what that certain upcoming RvR focused MMO will bring to the table and how their tech will hold up with large amount of players.

Exotic set is supposed to be easy and cheap to get. GW2 is not a gear grind game. Now legendaries and ascended are a different thing, however. Neither of them provide any game-breaking advantage over exotic, though, so there is no point shelving off a lot of gold for them.

I would say traditional MMOs like WoW are “stat grind” games, whereas GW2 is a “skin grind” game.

That would be quite an accurate depiction of GW2’s “endgame”.

mystic forge

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tom Gore.4035

So, is the forge worth using?

Yes. Just not for gambling for precursors.

I suppose I ought to look into what a precursor actually is! Only been playing for two years after all.

A precursor is a weapon, one of the requisites for crafting a Legendary Weapon. Extremely rare drops as loot or when combining weapons in the Mystic Forge.

In general, you should use the Mystic Forge for fixed recipes that give a fixed result. There are websites for calculating the turnout for the various recipes. You should not use the forge for trying to get a precursor by combining 4 rare weapons, or to get a valuable superior sigil/rune by combining 4 rare sigils/runes.

Unless of course you feel lucky. On average you’re bound to lose money vs. just selling the items on the TP at the lowest offer price.

Tom Gore.4035

One of things that I believe people like about EBG/EB and EoTM is the circular design since it leads to this push towards the center concept and the fact that there is more objectives to fight for and control. Only been on two servers thus far but people tend to gravitate towards EB over the borderlands.

My design would transform the whole WvW (with the exception of EotM) into circular design, with EB and the Stonemist castle at the centre and the borderlands directly attached into its “outer rim”.

Mesmer is OP as kitten

in PvP

Posted by: Tom Gore.4035

Tom Gore.4035

My suggestion would be that you don’t take damage when you destroy the clones. The fact that the Mesmer just avoided an attack because the player hit a clone should be enough reward. No need to crit for 2,5k on top of that.

You are mixing some things together.

The only possible punishments from killing clones are

  • Retaliation (from Phantasms if traited, otherwise they have to get buffed with Retaliation first).
  • 33% change if traited to get 2 Stacks of 4 Second bleeding.
  • If traited 3 seconds of confusion.
-> normal shatter mesmer has neither of those three traits.

Could be. It might be the clones have just been shattered before I’ve hit them. As I said, I’ve no idea how to fight a mesmer with my warrior. Have had some success with longbow as the f1 skill makes short work of the phantasms and clones. Usually I still haven’t been able to kill the mesmer, as they can always just stealth and run if the fight goes badly for them.

Like I said. Whenever I kill a mesmer it feels as if I’ve just got lucky, not like I’ve played better than the mesmer player.

In “reality” though, between two equally skilled Warriors, an Asura would have zero chance of defeating a Norn in combat unless the Asura had some kind of extra advantage such as a Power Suit to make up for the Norn’s much greater size and strength.

Intelligent and agile fighting also counts for something you know.

Is that why all fighting sports are dividing contestants by IQ and not weight?

Mesmer is OP as kitten

Tom Gore.4035

I only hate mesmers because I can’t for the love of my life figure out how to fight them.

That’s the problem with the mesmer balancing.

The newbie players are getting confused by the clones and the teleport-mechanic, that the mesmer is too strong at the bottom tier.

But at some point, the players get better, don’t have that newbie problem anymore, figure out very easy where the mesmer is, and how to counter them, and then eat them for breakfast.

The problem for me is I don’t even see the difference between a bad mesmer and a good mesmer. Ok the bad mesmers sometimes make mistakes and I down them in a way that feels almost like an accident.

I guess it would help to play a Mesmer for a while myself, but I’ve got limited time and my char slots are full.

How would I like to see WvW areas structured

in WvW

Posted by: Tom Gore.4035

Tom Gore.4035

On another thread there was a discussion about off-map supplies and their place in the WvW strategy. Also in another thread we discussed about the role of towers and other fortifications in WvW and their significance to the battlefield.

I’ve long wanted WvW to be more strategic than it is in its current form. I know it’s a view a lot of players do not share, instead leaning on even quicker and more action-packed WvW. That’s fine, and I’m not here to convert anyone.

This is my idea how I would like to see WvW areas arranged.

Basically the areas would be directly linked (probably not possible to have them seamless with current server tech) to each other in a way that they would together form one giant battleground, with the Stonemist Castle in the center of it.

The Borderlands would be arranged around the EB in a triangle and the keeps would be placed in strategic locations that block (or allow) entrance to the neighboring Borderlands and the EB.

Each world would only have a single waypoint, located at their home Borderland’s Citadel. Keeps and the Castle could still be upgraded with waypoints, making holding them crucial to be able to travel within the giant battleground quickly.

Towers would be placed in naturally defensible locations and would guard the entrance to a supply camp or another strategic resource.

Pros:
+ Much deeper strategy, giving more emphasis on scouting and holding the keeps.
+ Naturally driving the troops to certain areas, allowing large battles more often.

Cons:
- Population caps could be problematic, especially if your realm was confined to their home borderlands.
- Bigger battles mean bigger skill lag.
- Even more emphasis for night crews to take the crucial Keeps with waypoints.

The two first cons could be solved with better server engine, but I’m not sure if developing one (or improving the current one) is really viable for Anet. The last con is an everlasting problem which is difficult to solve without making all realms global and thus hopefully having a more even spread of players around the clock.

Comments? What would you think would be the biggest problems in this approach, and why do you think the current setup is better than this one? If you like this approach, but would want to change something, what would it be?

[Sugg] Existing WvW players to front of queue

in WvW

Posted by: Tom Gore.4035

Tom Gore.4035

There were 21 golems Someone was making a video, or so, but it was not a joke – we had very skilled commander and helpers.

Moves between EB and BLs is strategy. I feel the maps are one place.

Supply movement from home borderland to other maps is natural part of the war. Check real wars.

We have had epic fights in last three weeks after long period of disappointment. That is why we have queue. Opponents are balanced and fights are longer.

Last time I checked teleportation doesn’t exist in real wars (yet), so your point is moot.

I would love the borderlands and EB be one continuous area, with all worlds having exactly one waypoint at the far end of their home borderland. EB would be in the middle.

That would really put some emphasis on scouting and roaming deep.

Bit like DAoC, which if I’m not mistaken the whole WvW is modeled after, with relics (R.I.P.) and all.
