I disagree, to a point, that this game is alt unfriendly. There are many ways to use alts. It’s ONLY alt unfriendly if you somehow decide that all alts must have BIS gear, which isn’t a requirement of the game. In fact, different alts for some of us, serve different purposes. I can do anything in the open world on an alt, even in rares. I can run dungeons with the exception of high level fractals on any alt…that’s any dungeon I choose.

I’m not sure why BIS gear is such a big deal to have on every alt.

By the same token, every alt now has the same magic find, they can all work on achievements for you, they can all help your bottom line.

I just don’t get it.

Different people get different things out of an MMO. I have no idea what you get out of it. I know that what I get out of it depends, at least in part, of having BIS gear. Are you saying that how I play the game and what I enjoy is illegitimate?

If so, why even talking, just move on. There will be no persuasion here.

If not, then the only question is whether this game had something for me that is now gone. (the ability to gear alts in BIS gear and to easily change builds from one BIS outfit to another)

I was VERY careful not to say that ANet SAID anything or PROMISED anything (I actually edited my post to make sure we didn’t get into that old argument… yawn). All I’m saying is that objectively it went from that to this. Period.

And, for me, this is terrible for alts.

P.S. For the record, I don’t get your viewpoint either.

P.P.S. For someone like me, I probably shouldn’t be playing MMOs. I should stick to single player games where the achievements are well understood and the bar doesn’t move.

Sounds like a blast. GG

With all due respect, I’d much rather be the #11 than the #1 server in that match up.

You have people to kill on every map with a free repair bill, that’s really not that bad.

Meanwhile the people on BG/SoR are sitting on teamspeak drunk, singing Katy Perry songs, and farming the centaurs for bags because they have nothing else to do.

Yes. This is not good for anybody. Those of us who run 10 feet out of spawn, get killed, but can respawn without repair bills (allowing us to do it again and again and again and … what’s on TV? “BrideZilla”? I’ll be right there.). Those who are bored and singing Katy Perry, and those who have to listen.

Why didn’t Anet tell us this was coming when the game started?

Now, with 8 characters, I have no interest in the slow process of crafting/manfacturing these ascended or whatever items for any of my characters… since I know that to make them for all will take many months.

The way this has been done is somewhat underhanded, and has helped to dilute my interest in GW2. Anyone else agree?

On your original point. I think that if people knew at launch that GW2 would turn into this almost no one would have created an alt. You (and I) believed that this was an alt-friendly game (some people would say that ANet never implied it would be, others will argue they did, that’s matter of blame and I don’t care). It was (for about 2
months), but it’s not any longer.

The slow introduction of ascended gear made me feel like it may be manageable. Not great, but I could do a reasonable job kitting out three toons (Sorry Raith, Sayn, Devon, Etching, and Cloudy, you guys have been voted off Tyria).

But Ascended weapons, and Ascended armor by December makes it very clear that even 3 are too many.

The best thing you can do is pick a main and relegate everyone else to ore mining duty (or jumping puzzle camping).

I think it was never, in a million years, planned. The implementation of crafting has been abysmal. I’m currently stuck at 475. Have no new recipes to craft. Basically, I have to spend time / money on materials to build items I don’t need so that I can either a) sell them for FAR less than I paid for them or b) Salvage them for things I no longer need (black matter).

From 425-450 and 475-500 are a wasteland of things to craft.

They aren’t going to stop discussing it. Nor should they. Just quit reading the thread if you’re tired of it.

This is a divisive issue. None of the matters, cause ANet isn’t catering to any of us. We are just the insignificant passionate minority. But we like talking about it. Yesterday was the first day I decided not to regear a toon because it was too expensive. So I’m staying with condition damage (I wanted to try out power).

I also broke down yesterday and started playing older characters again, cause I was bored with the one that I considered a main. So… no ascended weapons for me. Hopefully they don’t make content that requires it (but I have no say or influence in that decision either.)

This thread actually keeps us from talking about it all over the place. The better to quietly delete later.

Time-gated is not the problem…anyone who feels “forced” is letting their emotions cloud their rationality. They make things time-gated to motivate and guilt you into buying gems. It’s up to you to have some self-discipline with your wallet and time.

I just want to point out that this is complete and utter nonsense, because NONE of the time-gated stuff (Laurels, particularly) can be obtained by “buying gems”. I wish people would stop claiming stuff is to make you “buy gems” when “buying gems” will not help with these issues at all.

Laurel’s can’t but the Acended ingots, plants, and leather things can.

It’s interesting. Probably not very useful when it comes down to the fact that most of the people I know who enjoy the game have stopped posting here altogether, because they’ve been attacked by people who don’t enjoy the game.

That argument can go both ways. Even when players have valid criticisms like this gear grind one, they are attacked.

It depends on what you define as a “valid” criticism.

For example, “I’m afraid that this Ascended thing is really the tip of the iceberg. Because the sort of players that this is supposed to appeal to AREN’T going to be satisfied with just one tier of vertical progression. What happens when they’ve got all of that, and want something more to grind and be more powerful? How can I be confident this really IS the end of the line?” That’s a valid criticism. I certainly hope that people aren’t attacked for that.

Now on the other hand, “ANET lied to me! This is a slap in the face! It’s a gear treadmill! 500 ore is too grindy! I’ll never find a group again because they’ll demand I link my Ascended that I don’t have!!!!111!!! ANET doesn’t listen! They hate their customers!” That’s NOT a valid criticism, and frankly, if someone gets attacked for jumping to conclusions and being a whiny brat… sorry, that’s on them, really.

This is a hilarious meta-joke if you look at it the right way.

IMO opinion whether they meant that they were talking about a specific type of grind no long matters when almost everyone thought they meant grind in general.

If you combine different quotes you get a pretty clear picture that grinding was going to be for looks only.

Maybe that’s not what they meant, but it’s what they implied (or at the very least what any reasonable person should have known we inferred) and it’s what they let people believe. So, to me, either they a) said one thing, implied another, and didn’t correct the misconception (which any reasonable person would have known was out there) or b) changed their mind and have turned in a different direction.

Which is better? And really, what difference does it make? We are where we are. Does it really matter if someone said this wasn’t where we were going?

Anet made a manifesto two years before the game launched and then provided, after that subsequent information which people seem to ignore.

No one said Anet didn’t change direction….at least I haven’t said it. But I don’t believe the manifesto was talking about gear grind (and I see no reason why anyone would believe it). In no English I know can that be construed to mean gear grind.

People don’t like gear grind, they seized on the word grind and decided that’s what it meant. I don’t buy it.

As for everything else, Anet didn’t have pages and pages on how there would be no vertical progression in this game. They had two or three quotes from interviews. They talked about other stuff, A LOT. Dynamic events, personal story, hell, even dye colors got an entire blog post.

Vertical progression didn’t.

Sorry, I still don’t think the difference matters. They knew (or should have known) that people thought they meant no gear grind. I think it’s better if they intended for grinding to be for looks, realized it wasn’t working, and adjusted their strategy.

The fact that there was no clarification on vertical progression supports my point as much as it does yours. They described dynamic events, the personal story, and dye colors, but never discussed vertical progression. Didn’t say they would have it, didn’t say they wouldn’t.

I think that, for a sequel, the default position is that things are going to be the same as the predecessor. For example, even if the trailers didn’t show car chases, you could safely assume that Fast and the Furious 7 would include a lot of cars. If this game was named WoW2 then people should expect vertical progression, but this game is named GW2. Which, people have said, didn’t really have vertical progression after max level.

And I still don’t see why it matters (but I enjoy the debate). Although some people seem to think it does. We have the game we have.

Ascended vs Exotic (Math)

Average damage (crits included) for my guardian against 2600 armor

autoattack with exotic valkyrie sword 1st attack in chain 1890
autoattack with ascended valkyrie sword 1st attack in chain 1896 (6 damage or +0.31%)
autoattack with ascended valkyrie sword (
5 power infusion) 1st attack in chain 1903 (+13 damage or +0.69%)

autoattack with exotic valkyrie sword 3rd attack in chain 3543
autoattack with ascended valkyrie sword 3rd attack in chain 3554 (11 damage or +0.31%)
autoattack with ascended valkyrie sword (
5 power infusion) 3rd attack in chain 3567 (+24 damage or +0.68%)

Zealot defense with exotic valkyrie sword 6260
Zealot defense with ascended valkyrie sword 6279 (19 damage or +0.3%)
Zealot defense with ascended valkyrie sword (
5 power infusion) 6302 (+42 damage or +0.67%)

The % gain in damage is very slightly decreasing with the highest damaging skills

Is this from a test, or is this math?

The reason I’m asking is that damage is still a little confusing to me, but you’re results don’t match up with how I think it should work. Of course, I could be wrong.

For example, 10 (III),20 (IV,IX),0,30 (IV,X,V),0 (10 points I don’t know what to do with.)

Do you feel like your attack is too weak, or your defense is too weak. I know they go hand in hand, but sometimes, I feel like I need another evade and sometimes I feel like I need to do a little more damage.

Counter Invisibility, not Stealth

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

What if detecting an invisible enemy was a boon on the detector and not on the invisible person. So, for example, someone who is invisible would appear (to the detecting person only) like one of the assassins in COF p2.

The invisible person would still get all the bonuses from being invisible (condition removal, boon generation, etc.).

It would therefore, take some coordination to track down the thief. “He’s to you’re right, left, behind you, he’s running away”

I would not switch to focus. Focus is good for dungeons, traited in southsun, and otherwise is mostly quality of life, especially against champs who can’t be pulled. And the warden will be killed very quickly.

I have no trouble with my mesmer in PvE. Although it’s certainly not a face roll. What is your playstyle?

If I’m going to solo a champ, I tend to bring sword / pistol and a staff. I like the pistol because of the range. I like the staff for defense. I try to always keep distance between myself and the champ. When i close it’s for a very quick pistol 4, sword 3, sword 3. sword 2, staff 2 cycle.

You can also probably do pretty well with sword / sword and scepter / pistol.

No gold?!

in Players Helping Players

TooBz.3065

Instead, we should ask for recipes to be changed (less wood / plank), resources to be increased (more trees for farming), or better drop rates (more T6 materials).

That has it’s own problems in the long term.
Once enough people are done with their ascended stuff the demand is going to drop again.

Also keep in mind that their goal is to make the rewards for everything to be equal. So in theory if there was a rare drop from a mob or even not so rare(fine material) you could go farm the mobs yourself for the item or you could go around chopping trees and sell the logs to buy the item. It would take more or less equal amounts using either method.

What problems?  I can’t see any right now. (Sorry for the constant edits, I’m all thumbs right now.)

Well, adding more gold for more things certainly isn’t going to solve anything. Too much demand chasing too little supply. As a WvW player, I scoff at the notion that there is a serious effort to balance rewards.

It seems to me like rewards are given to balance play across the game. World bosses are boring – no one does them, give better rewards. No one kills champs – give better rewards. But people play WvW so no need to incentivize that. Too many people run COF p1, nerf the rewards. etc.

2 things.
If it comes down to that point of view for you then you stoped playing video games a long time ago. I think its time for you stop playing them.
Also if you truly hate farming more then you hate work its time to stop playing mmorpg or ANY type of rpg.

I don’t know why my point of view attracts such a vehement response. If you hate doing something, at least GW2 offers you an option not to do it. Suppose I have a limited amount of free time and I love WvW, but I want to get soft wood logs. Guild Wars is better than most games because I can 1. Go chop them down trees int he appropriate zones 2. Farm champs or whatever to get gold to buy logs or 3. Skip coffee, but gems → gold, and buy the logs.

Compare this to other games with a subscription. For the subscription I get access to the servers. In Gw2 for the same cost I can get 30-35g, which I can use to buy whatever I need in game.

No gold?!

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: TooBz.3065

TooBz.3065

Especially with increased crafting prices now, I wish Anet would make it a little easier to make gold. Perhaps increasing loot or letting us farm.

This is a bit of a fallacy. If gold is easier to make then more people have more gold. But the price of crafting material is based on supply and demand, there’s no place to go buy them for a fixed price. Therefore, if more people have more gold all that happens is that the price of the materials will rise.

Instead, we should ask for recipes to be changed (less wood / plank), resources to be increased (more trees for farming), or better drop rates (more T6 materials).

I’d like to see better AOE effects also, and less randomness to our skills.

Any misdirection based class is going to excel in a small group scenario. In a zerg there is no misdirection, because people aren’t actively going after anyone in particular. So they don’t care about your clone or invisibility. They just keep hitting skills until one side or the other is dead.

Glamour was great because it fed off of this mentality / punished it.

However, if you get in a situation where things are a little chaotic, but where people are trying to process and figure things out, the misdirection classes like thieves and mesmers excel.

First ascended weapon gotten. Still think the requirements are too much. Still think gear disparity is gonna be a problem in WvW.

You can nearly buy all the things for an ascended wepon if you MUST have it now

Only if you’re far richer than the average 2-3 hour a day player, of course, who considers them lucky to make even 1gp in total a day (minus their costs for transit and repair) even at 80.

Doing a single invasion would net you far more than 1 gold in a day.

Wasting almost an hour of your 2-3 hours a day to a stupid invasion is something not many of us are willing to do.

Wasting 40 minutes to make 5 gold, so you can do anything you want during the other two hours (aside from the fact that some of us actually enjoy invasions).

For that matter, if you do a dungeon run, you’ll be guaranteed more than a gold. Saying people in 2-3 hours can’t make more than a gold a night is simply not right.

Hell you could farm champs in Queensdale and make more than that.

Two dollars also gets you 5g. So that’s always an option if you hate farming more than you hate working.

  • DPS

  • Phantasms (you can launch a phantasm at a door and go stand sentry, doing double duty)
  • AOE Heal
  • Ability to roam and scout on par with Rangers and thieves
  • crowd control (focus 4 is one of two pulls in the game, and by far the better)
  • swiftness without an AOE limit (anyone who crosses the line gets swiftness)

With the coming changes we will also have

  • AOE condition clear
  • AOE stability

I can’t think of any other class, other than guardians, who provide as much to a zerg.

WvW Ascended Backpieces

in WvW

TooBz.3065

Just go do a few fractal runs to get some of the vials of mist to make a back piece. It is not hard. What is hard is getting say 250 armoured scales after that. But creating a back piece this way will be quicker than waiting to get laurels for what ever cost they stuck on them IF the ever added them to wvw vendor.

I did a few fractal runs, got 7 vials…np

Having to do any PvE for WvW gear is just lame though. And having to do a dungeon is even worse.

Now with the addition of Ascended Weapons, there is one more piece of BiS gear you can’t get through WvW.

Who comes up with this kitten?

We’ll enjoy NOT having a back piece then.

And all of the mats you need for ascended weapons drop in WvW. Bar the one for salvaging exotics. You just like failed to notice the epic amounts that drop?

If you’re serious, the drop rate is so low that it will takes a long time to gather those materials. Specifically dragonite is especially rare. I think the problem there is that they ignore the difficulty of getting into the Keep or Castle in the first place. They just think, oh its a champion (or whatever) 6 dragonite. Ignoring the hoard you had to wade through to get to the lord’s room in the first place.

The explanation is that they want each character to have a unique progression path.
It doesn’t make sense to me either, but that’s what they said.

The commander tag is because they want people to start to identify with good commanders. If you change from Commander XoraxLorax to Commander Fuzzybritches how will anyone know it’s you.

5 character parties is a holdover from dungeons. They did, at least, make squads.

Alternatively you could say the reasons are avarice, greed, and sloth (respectively). But, while I disagree with most of these decisions, I prefer to look at it more positively.

Downscale ascended to exotic for WvW

in WvW

I actually don’t think there’s anything that’s easier to get in WvW than it is to get in PvE. (I could be wrong, but I’d appreciate feedback) Even badges of honor come by the truckload for achievements, which are easier to get in PvE.

Holy Grind Wars 2!

Well… lets look on the bright side:

  • Anet implements Tier Exotic +1 gear that will bring Competitive PvP into a serious imbalance.
  • Tier Exotic +1 gear is impossible to create, because it requires ridiculous amount of materials.
  • Nobody makes ascended, so nobody needs to get them, cause if nobody has them, PvP won’t be imbalanced.

On top of that.

  • No more reason to play, since Ascended was ment as their newest stick/carrot.
  • No more GW2 full-time job (aka. grinding), time to go play a real game.

Then leave, no one is making you stay. If it stops being fun…It is a game after all.

This is true, but in the MMO space there aren’t a lot of shiny new alternatives out there. Especially if you are looking for a grind-free sandbox (no MMO has this). So if that’s what you are looking for, this is the only place to even get close.

Sometimes there’s no constructive criticism to offer.
Sometimes it comes down to a difference of opinion. If I want to see a movie and my wife wants to go shopping, she’s driving and goes to the mall, I can complain but there really is no constructive criticism I can offer. She perfectly executed a trip to the mall.

However, its reasonable for me to complain (to a degree it can go too far) that we didn’t agree to go to the mall, or that I don’t want to be here. I think it’s reasonable even if I bought the car but she pays for the gas.

Guild Wars has been the only MMO to really come out for a year (I think). Once there’s an alternative to check out people will look at it and stay gone, or come back and be happier with what they have. Right now everyone is trying to shoehorn this MMO into their ideal game.

Focus vs Sword vs Pistol Offhand

in Mesmer

Posted by: TooBz.3065

TooBz.3065

It’s situational.

I find that if I’m running with a zerg there’s generally enough swiftness that the focus is a waste (the focus cannot extend swiftness for someone who already has it but can only give it to someone who doesn’t have it.) But in WvW I run centuar runes, so I get swiftness there.

Focus is great for pulling people off of walls or over cliffs (always a laugh), it is also good for absorbing / reflecting projectiles. It can be used to pull people around in a fight. The phantasm is great for attacking stationary targets (for example, you can use it on cannons and burning oil). But any person is going to just move out of range.

The pistol off hand and the swordsman tend to be better phantasms for actual combat situations.

quantifiable facts, explain rotations. Evaluate and compare options. Persuade people that you are right

I gave figures for swordsman, duelist, berserker and warden DPS (w/o crits). I briefly tested warlock (since pyroatheist stated he got huge numbers with it) and found out on a stacked boss it does very high DPS (If I recall it was something like 10k vs 8k from duelist). I’ve explained the phantasm rotation if you actually read the link in my signature. I’ve evaluated the weapons, it’s just they don’t take long to evaluate.

I persuade people I am right by being forceful, because being a pushover makes you ignored, and since my views are practically heresy on this forum I need to be forceful enough to make people second guess their views, and even test things out themselves. I would run more tests but I have pretty infrequent computer access at the moment so I prefer to spend most of the time I do have by having fun speed running dungeons.

If you don’t like my post style, then well maybe people should stop being play how you want carebears, and actually be useful to their dungeon parties so I wouldn’t have to tear them in half for being incompetent.

But so were Chaos’s when he first introduced the boon support build. As I just posted on the other thread. I think you’re probably really on to something (I also said you were smart). But the posts are unpleasant to read. Which turns me off and raises my hackles. I find that when I’m discussing something one the forum, my audience isn’t usually the person I’m responding to, it’s everyone else who reads this.

Edit 2: (because I missed the random scrubs remark). Nice.

(Quick phone response)

That’s the problem. Bad means “unskilled.” So if Pyro suddenly decides not to go you’re route then hes suddenly less skilled than he was 10 minutes ago? (And I was using him as a reference as someone whos obviously not bad, not because his reputation dictates but because its been proven)

Skill: The ability to do something well; expertise.

By not going full melee, he is choosing not to tackle the content “well”, therefore not being skillful about it, therefore being bad.

This is why I say players using weak weapons are choosing to be bad, because it means no matter how skillful they are at controlling their character, their overall efficiency will be lacking (i.e. not “doing it well”). To bring up my TA example where I took a bunch of dirt naps, there I was being bad, but I wasn’t being held back by my weapons. Once I learnt the content, if I were to run it again, I would be familiar with it all and I would be using the best gear so I would be doing it well, i.e. being skillful.

No. You constantly attack individuals on this forum, as if acting like a fifth grade bully is the way to make your point. Learn to argue, grow up a little, and come back.

If you want to make your point bring quantifiable facts, explain rotations. Evaluate and compare options. Persuade people that you are right.

edit: and this…

Tested against dummies in Lion’s Arch (so no crits)
0/20/0/25/25
full berserker, partial ascended (amulet, accessory, rings)
iSwordsman – 2.1k
iDuelist – 2.4k
iWarden – 3.6k
iZerker – 2.7k (rounded up)
Swordsman was able to hit three times during the warden’s channel and during its recharge.
Duelist and Zerker had very little difference in recharge time.
Warden is a poor choice for DPS even with phantasmal haste.
Will reply in detail later, but those were my results. Will test more in open world so we can factor in crits.

Only gets you halfway there. A better way may be to compare how much damage is dealt over a period of time.

Q: Thoughts on Celestial gear in WvW

in Mesmer

Posted by: TooBz.3065

TooBz.3065

Osicat has a build that uses an Ascended Celestial Amulet. (Shattercat Heavy) My version uses celestial helm and celestial legs.

But Kill Shot is a ridiculous attack, it’s okay to be one shotted by it. It’s probably the single most powerful attack out there. So I wouldn’t change because of that. I usually WvW with about 1500 or 1651 toughness (depending on build) so already have more than I usually use.

In my opinion, celestial gear is ok, but not greakittenink the damage goes

Soldiers (least) (Effective Power: 2566) -> Celestial (Effective Power 2596) -> Knights (Effective Power: 2713) -> Rampagers (Effective Power 2822) -> Zerker (most) (Effective Power: 2955).

If you want to just add one piece, either do legs or helm. You get the best crit damage that way, which reduces the harm somewhat.

For PvE content there’s really no reason not to go full zerker. If you feel squishy keep a couple of soldiers pieces to throw on (legs and mask first).

When I run in PvE it’s full zerker. When I run in WvW I add my soldiers mask and legs and swap to a knights weapon.

The guide is great. Focus on power as a primary stat. Get a mighty green (masterwork) gear at level 14 and 20. Get strong green gear at level 26, 32, and 38.

If you still feel week add a minor sigil of bloodlust to your weapon.

By level 40 everything gets much easier.

I can’t imagine how. At almost all levels increasing power is better than increasing precision. Phantasms inherit both power and precision and can be traited to have fury.

It does increase the likelihood of procing “on hit” events, like clone bleeds.

Last time you had the oh yes! feeling?

People here probably have incredibly sad lives to keep playing a game that only gives them “oh no!” moments for one year. Or worse, to keep posting on its forum when they don’t play it anymore.

@OP : Beating SAB W2Z2 (took me 2 hours, pre-nerf, solo, no guide).

Sure. But it takes a while to get out of the habit of posting on the forums, even after you quit the game (it’s hard to quit the game, it’s hard to quit the forums.)

My last “Oh Yes” moment was probably when I completed the Obsidian Sanctum for the first time (without a mesmer). Lots of time when I had fun since then, but not that level of elation.

Not sure why you thought otherwise

I honestly didn’t hold any definite speculative viewpoint on the subject until an official response could come about; I didn’t want to fall into the same speculation trap that a lot of people here did and start making wild claims that could end up being false.

I know what I hoped would come about, and I’m glad it did, but I didn’t want to be all like “yeah, they’re definitely not gonna add a gear treadmill” when everyone else is shouting “zomg they’re adding a gear treadmill” here on the forums, because what if I ended up being the one that’s wrong?

Well we knew since November that they would not add another tier:

You’re pretty much victim to the negative hivemind here on the forums that likes to spew false information just to make themselves heard.

Yes, but as I said, there is going to continue to be VP. Also from November.

Hi All,
Here is the reply to the second question:
E2:Ascended gears are making a lot of people worry about an ever-increasing gear treadmill. Many players did not want the exotic/legendary system to change, and they don’t like ascended gears. Was this expected? Can this be something fixed in a painless way? Can it happen?
Yes the response was definitively expected. We did not intent for the information to come out this way. Going back to my previous answer the issue is that we believe in the vertical progression system we had pre launch and that the introduction of an element into the system post launch was going to cause concern but something we believe in. That is why there is no plan for new Rarity Tiers of loot but there are plans to enhance or gain items within the existing rarity design whose properties continue on a shallow power curve. This said we certainly don’t want to create a system where itemization blocks progression in the game globally and we also need to be careful of this in areas such as FotM if the primary reward isn’t available elsewhere in the game. So in short its an exciting problem but one that has been poorly communicated and handled.
And for this i take responsibility and apologies. However the future of this philosophy and the design challenges it throws up are going to lead to a pioneering world and one that we are very excited about.
So anyway i kind of went of topic here so in short. We don’t intend to have an item rarity gear treadmill, we intend for the progression for gaining these rewards to have lots of different avenues for different types of player and where possible lower no fun grind within the whole of the game.
I hope this answers that question. I will be right back.
Chris

All I’m saying with this, is that if you think this will be the end of vertical progression you are going to be disappointed. The same way I made the mistake of reading too much into early statements about the game, it would be a mistake to read too much into what they say now.

I’ve got to 500 crafting and I’ve looked at how fast I’m going to get Dragonite and Empyreal stuff. I’m fine for Empyreal but in my old playstyle I would get 500 Dragonite in about 12 weeks. To get more dragonite I would have to sink time into content I don’t particularly enjoy. Someone I’m sure will tell me to just read websites for times of world events and spend all day chasing them down, but that’s precisely what I would never enjoy. Spending some time in WvW isn’t so bad but spending all my online time in WvW would again be bad.

It just looks to me like grind.

WvW is a terrible place to get the new mats. You’re much better off using the World Boss times or temple events. Provided, of course, you don’t mind standing around doing nothing during the “window”

All Colin or anyone can do is tell you their best thinking at the moment. Circumstances change things all the time. It’s very hard to project how things are going to go in the future.

He hopes that ascended will do it. Other’s have pointed out that the current infusions are just fine (blue), which leaves room for green, yellow, orange, and pink infusions. There have been people saying that a gentle power curve of Vp will be in the game from now on.

It’s a comforting statement, but as everyone who’s been here since before November knows, things change.
