what is your goal for wvw? zerging or roaming?
the problem is FS buff lead to the eventual destruction of the S/D set so i guess people have reason to fear the PW buff
as anet does with anythign good.
anet would rather ahve a bunchy of mediocre classes w/ mediocre skills thana bunch of good classes with good skills. bc then the outcome relies on the better player and not who has the most passive skills/defense and room for error.

thief shortbow cant kill anyone. other weapons are made to be assassin type weapons…. pistol….dagger….sword even. with those 3 weapons … as a thief… u cannot really enter into a zerg and battle in the fray. even if u do choose to you pick 1 targt on the edge and try to neutralize him.
this is where shortbow comes in. in a 1v1 all its skills or so underpowered. but they give great well rounded utility. evades. poisons. cripples. bleeds. 1 spike hit. multiple target ricochet. blind. teleport. etc etc. u can die with this build very easily. the only way you dont is making sigil of agility plus evades + boon % time + short bow 3 spam. and that MIGHT keep you alive unless opponent is anub with no timing. SB isnt OP bc it cant even kill somebody in green armor. no need to nerf.
the only reason poison is being nerfed from 5 to 3 secs is bc that it stacks with other classes poisons in wvw/pvp and really starts to add up. thats when it becomes op. if poison field wasthe only poison on field it would be underwhelming ….. not til other classes add poison (which all can and do) does it become strong.
Yeah, thief is in a bad position really. Doesn’t even really matter what build you run (unless P/D).
I dueled a gs/hammer warrior yesterday and lost my first two fights although I dodged about every stun, but him spamming #1 and running slightly curved thus failing backstab made it near impossible to win. (Both tanky & critting for 4k health by just spamming 1)
I adjusted my play drastically (bit rusty on D/D since it was my first go at it in months), won twice. Only because I was clearly the better player lol.
That’s just gs/hammer warrior, basically any build that is made to solo is stronger than yours if played by an equal player.. Engi, Ele, Mesmer, Necro, Warriors..
All the people complaining and constantly demanding nerfs are obviously zerglings who get picked out or die on their way to the blob.

we have a 10% dmg nerf overall coming. it hurts thieves obvioulsy more than other classes bc we are dependent on dmg. anyway point is… i dont even play guard. even i can do an easy job at survival/dmg in a frantic situation like grenth. an 8 year old can do that really on guard/warrior and ele etc. point is with thief taking the big hit onthis upcoming nerf….. i ask WHY!? why when guards and other classes can do that which such ease. anet thinks direct dmg is a lil over the top and trying to shave a lil. whats really over the top is other classes which have their survivability handed to them by “no skill ability” as anet calls it. some is passive…if notmost…but some is also witless required skill to achieve such adept power/survivability/sustainability etc. other classes are clearly more OP in wvw/pve yet dmg is taking the nerf which affects thief most.
This nerf is going to affect all classes that wish to roll heavily on berserker stats. It’s not targeted at thieves in general but the berserker community and in their live stream, they even clearly said that berserkers will still be dominant when it comes to a DPS race.
What you showed us is that the guardian doesn’t die quickly and you think that sustain = more damage than thieves. Sometimes having more upfront damage makes the difference in PvE due to less time the boss is hitting you. Which is why most PvE players want you to get comfortable with berserker gear.
Thieves will be fine with this change to crit damage. Berserkers will be fine with this change. Thieves will adjust and adapt to the change like every other class. We will just see less boom. I personally hate PvE as I think it’s the most boring aspect of the game and is predictable and scripted. There is nothing dynamic to PvE.
the only class that goes full zerk 90% of the time…or close to it…is thief. our dmg is our survivability. thief gets hit the hardest….not just the thief….but they do get hit harder bc its their specialty. if u hit defense -10%…guardians would be mad bc thieves are killing them much faster. u know? it affects each class differently.
If you wanted a video without stacking/LoS and with a rather chaotic scene of mobs and Shades, then I just did it first try – killed the mobs in front of Jonez, then ran all the way up to the Priest without stopping and fought everything face to face. I got downed once from Corruption (not even a HP/Armor danger and could happen to a Guardian so your whining about Guardians is moot there) but it’s easy to res yourself with Ice Elementals that you just end up accidentally tagging half the time, or just takes a nanosecond to bring yourself up when you one-shot any of them with full Berserker. That video will also be uploaded tonight. When it’s up, take ONE look at the army that is following me near the Priest’s death and I dare you to argue against it.

Curious though, what is so special with (Risen Priest of) Grenth? Simple pattern/mechanics, and without many players around him he seems to be lot weaker than other bosses.

i made one nub error. i tried breaking the switch with d/d but i had s/p up. wanted to HS spam a few times to break switch :P lil mistake but other thanthat its not bad for a random PUG run
i can do that now if u like rogerwilko. gimme like 20 mins to run and download. i wont edit like most people that way you can see the real run without any tricks or rerunnign it

well i dont play guardian. like less than .1 % of my time. i have no muscle memory for my THIEF’s hotkeys to be transfered over to guard. its like me adding a new class to game and new skills for it and making u hop on and use hotkeys without changing anythign. are you simple? lol
I played a game weekend before last that I had never played before. I did not mouseclick at any time. It took me less than an hour to build the basic muscle memory for the character.

You realise that I dragged all of the mobs around the priest with me to the corner and killed them as well?
I have lost all hope. All possible arguments you could ever make for class balance or, well, anything to do with this game are null and void.
tell u what. ill go get BLUE armor on my guard and do the same on an EMPTY server. its not hard. its quite easy. your mobs have 1/20th the HP. theere were about 90% less mobs. shades…..risen….. The priest has no direct dmg … only AOE. anyone on thief can dodge theaoe . thats nto the challenge.

if you DO do it CORRECTLY….. it still takes much more effort and perfection than guardian. but i don think when its upscaled with so many people you will be able to do this. the priest wont be in the corner.
this corniness reminds me of a challenge i put on another thief. i said condi thief can clear wvw camp faster than direct dmg. he said no way. we both made videos his was like 1-2 secs faster until i remade but still. he used a cheap trick. he could only do it on ONE camp on ONE map. he used the NE camp and brought them down around the rock and cluttered them up (took few tries) and used s/p.
so by slight techinicality he was right. in reality he was totally wrong bc nobody gets the chance to do that 98% of the time. nobody also uses s/p in wvw. its d/p or d/d or p/d or sb. either way dont be corny and accept the challenge
I think the point of doing more damage on his guard than thief is he isn’t having to spend time actively evading or being dead. Dead zerker = dps, vs clerics who just skips by throwing aoe attacks. Even if they hit weak it’s still constant.
On the flip side, a zerker guard wouldn’t last too well there, atleast I don’t believe so considering the trait reworks they would do to get there but maybe someone has such a build to be beefy and deal heavy damage with gs without going down like a pile of bricks. Thief may hit harder in general but the lose the luxury of sustain as a result, passive sustain. Som, caltrops, caltrops on dodge, pw, w/e you want it will help though. Its not viable in wvw or pvp but it sure does hella wonders in pve. I’ve solo’ed Captain rotbeard with a similar build, never got close to death.

i didnt use any of these 3 tricks which also lower his hp and lower the incoming dmg/attacks by 90%. that thief did nothign in that video other than dodge aoe. that was not even close to the p oint.
@ auses MY POINT was the FRAY (in combat chaos with lots of enemies lots of aoe raining down and lots of dmg incoming…. none of which you had other than half of the AOE)
i can go find an EMPTY server and make a cheat video. its not about KILLING priest its about tanking him while avoiding shades and risen and having them all upscaled.

the challenge wasnt JUST the priest. his aoe is a joke. its the whole of enemies coming at you. priest is only about 25%of the problem there. the other 75% is risen summons and shades. so im still waiting on a video SHOWING what guardian did but a thief doing it.

well, I mainly do d/p for shadow shot, and s/d for larcenous strike. I like the style. Is it my fault if the skills aren’t as good as say pistolwhip? But no, I can’t say I’ve seen my backstabs do more than 3k. That stealth steal build required I couldn’t put much or any into deadly arts or critical strikes. But when someone commented on my play, I considered putting 20 out of acrobatics (to keep me moving) and into critical.

Its usually not the raw power coming out of a thief (sometimes it is, tho) that makes players up set, it is usually the fact that people can’t wrap their heads around a thief. The best mesmer isn’t a mesmer, but a thief. If I would get 1 silver for every person that stops throwing out AoE/autoattacks as soon as I vanish in stealth I’d be really rich. If I’d get another silver for every person trying to face tank me in black powders, well lets not even go there.
Most people fall for the joke “stealth = invul”. You won’t beat a decent one by just blowing your crap into them in those 3 seconds.

there is no thief build that can stand up and attack that priest of grenth.
point is even with clerics armor …. i did more dmg on guardian than my thief would do with full zerker.
go ahead. get a thief and go make a video. ill practice a lil on guardian and do next video better. it was a 1 try thing. on a whim. wasnt like i play guardian or play it well. a good guardian could prolly solo that grenth with no help at all.
anyone who thinks thief is OP….then they have to admit guardian needs about 5x the nerfs that thief does. theres just no arguing it.

i mean im no great guard (im main thief 99% of time) and i make so many mistakes im sure great guards could point out but i was still alive doing most the dmg…. i just dont get what anet is doing and QQers on thief. we should have our IR unnerfed and mug crit unnerfed and many others. redic. now a 10% dmg reduction incomign

face tanked priest of grenth down to 10% and pretty much only person around. i usually dont even get downed but ull get the idea from this.

Pot kettle. You said warriors can’t chain teleports in response to the person you quoted. I said they can’t teleport in response to you. If I was wrong to say it then so were you. Not every class’s mobility is teleporting. Stating that warrior’s can’t as if to suggest they have inferior mobility is wrong, because they have their own mobility skills.
The attack on me isn’t justified either. Assuming I use D/P and using that to attempt to weaken my points is flawed reasoning. You have no evidence that I use it, or that I don’t use it, or that I can’t use all weapons. Your straw person approach weakens your attack, and your arrogance is not appreciated.
The post you replied to concerned escaping a warrior, not catching one. If you take your own advice, and read the posts you reply to, you’ll see that I stated a thief’s mobility skills are designed to close gaps, not create them. You’ll also find that no where did I state a thief cannot create a significant gap, and that I did state a warrior can close that gap.
The ability to access stealth does not have a negative impact on your mobility, as you seem to have implied i.e you don’t have to sacrifice it for mobility. If you were referring utility skills rather than access to stealth itself, for example, shadow refuge, then yes, a movement skill would grant superior mobility. Once again however, the post you replied to concerned escaping, and Shadow refuge is an effective means of escape (albeit without risk, but then, those other skills have their own risk associated with their use in that manner). The decision would come down to what you want to gain from your utilities, and there would be no right answer overall.
You say “Try catching me” after listing a bunch of skills. There is so much I can pick at here.
First is the fact that you included Steal and Infiltrator’s Signet. These require targets, and cannot be used to freely move that distance in a direction of your choosing to put a gap between yourself and a pursuer. You can target something and use them, sure, but then you’ve either gone towards another enemy when you want to escape, or you’ve got lucky and found an NPC you can use. Then, your distance of travel is dependent on how far away that target is, not by the maximum range of the abilities. For steal, being out of range means you don’t go anywhere. So, requires a nearby target, dependent on the distance between you and that target… not very reliable, and certainly cannot have their maximum units considered in the theory because it will more than likely be different in practice. That shaves 2400 units off your “total range”.
Second is that you wouldn’t save Roll for Initiative and Withdraw for escaping. Not if you’re half a decent player, anyway. You’d use them during the fight, to help you fight. Shadow Step might be off cool down, and Withdraw may have cooled down since it’s only 15 seconds, but the two combined is still only 2100 units. Again, note the “might be off cool down”. It’s not a guarantee. You might have had to use it to escape a stun, or whatever reason before deciding to escape. A warrior’s long distance covering mobility skills which do not require a target, have much shorter cool downs.
Third, infiltrator’s arrow. You would be correct to point out that it can be used to put significant distance between you and a class that cannot scale terrain. However, the presence of such terrain cannot always be counted on. You counted this as 900 units, which is misleading. You’re running while you cast it, so distance is traveled during the cast time, and travel time of the projectile, reducing the distance that this skill actually takes you. Obviously, it shadow steps you fewer units the more ground you travel while casting/arrow travels, and with your swiftness (which a warrior will also have of course) the distance you gain from the skill is significantly less than 900 units. (Note that this is why I used “spam heart seeker” in my example for gap creation instead of infiltrator’s arrow)
Fourth, you listed skills which would use all of a player’s utility slots and their healing slot, and include the use of a trait which requires investing at least 10 trait points into Trickery. This is a very specific and restricting requirement for any player who wishes to maintain their own play style and/or build. While the high mobility warrior build is a reality, it’s bad practice to offer a whole build adjustment to handle one specific build available to one class as a solution.
good point. warrior has it on demand. thief has to sacrifice every spot just to be able to ALMOST stay on par

But if people had a mix of zerk and for exemple knight with the patch they will lose dps right ?
So they will be slower than before in pve for kill a mobs /boss, so what they will change ? they will change the knight armor they have for get berzerk and try to get some DPS back
So they will be full zerk instead of knight and zerk mix
mix armor is for wvw. pve is usually all 1 type tho.
95-99% of people that PvP in this game are terrible. They get backstabbed, run around in circles confused about what is happening and then finally die to the thief. Then they proceed to cry on the forums. Since these players aren’t good enough to just play thief to figure out its weaknesses, it’s much easier to just cry about it.
so heres the problem. if they nerf thief again and again…the GOOD players playing against thief which WERE already on fair grounds…are now OP .
trying to nerf so average to bad players can play competitively is a bad idea bc it ruins a class against good players.

5 people chasing 1 thief. niether of which is doing dmg or any threat. nothing has chagned other than a few players with bad priorities getting angry.
if a thief goes for stealth build…they obviously cant kill or be productive. whyd o people care.

So, ascended gives 4.75% stats to zerk over exotic dps, and they are nerfing the overall dps by 10% to every zerk set.

Damage output is quite a bit more then +5% – berserker has three stats working towards the same goal and all three get a boost. And the crit damage got a disproportionately large boost on ascended.
there is a cap on crit dmg % you know right?
there also was no more % added only 1-5 power and +1-4 precision. def not more than 4.75%

What makes you think it’s going anywhere? Zerk, even after nerf, will still be the best damage option. Until they change it so doing the most damage is the most efficient path then nothing will change.

Zerk will still be the best option to DPS, so if some people was almost full zerk and have like 2 or 3 armor pièces for defensif (like soldier for axtra thoughness and vita)
and with the -10% less damage, they will automaticly change it to zerk for get back that -10% or anyways get more DPS…
and if its not zerk the best option with the new update, people will take the other set that the more offensif

they def wont ever ….ever….ever no way no how….in any way imaginable even come close to getting that 10% back. switch. flip. change. bump. twist. turn. push or pull it. do whatever u want with your armor. it wont ever get 10% back that this nerf will take away. noteven close.
its a 10% loss to overall dmg by nerfing crit dmg . the high end isnt getting nerfed. all of it is getting nerfed. so the people with 150 and the 200% and the 250% are all getting the same % reduction.
They’re just balancing zerk stats since their damage output before was way too large. Zerk will still dish out the most damage, just less. You can call it a nerf, but it’s more like a balance that finally will be implemented.
i would agree if i didnt play a thief.
thief were giving INSANE single target dmg to make up for well…everything they dont have.
if sb doesn’t do something well then its useless. 900 range on clusterbomb makes it PVE only.
right now people only use disabling shot (skill 3) and poison gas(skill 4) no real dmg. fair init.
if u think 3 is strong. let me ask you this. if u play warrior or w.e. class would u trade skills 2 3 4 5 on weapons set 1 and skills 2 and 3 on weaponset 2 for 3.5 secs of evade? if your answer is no than dont complain about disabling shot.
