As far as I know, none of the named enemies fought in either the arena or the gauntlet have actual histories. Which is a shame.
I would have preferred fighting Bonfaaz Burntfur rather than Spar(ti)cus.
With one exception, the crew of Ravenous
Am I missing something? As far as I know, Glint didn’t move the Scepter of Orr, she wasn’t even physically present.
Ahem…
Yes, the staff disappears, but again, Glint wasn’t physically present, and the staff disappears after vision of Glint leaves the scene. Glint makes no mention of the Scepter, nor does she show any interest in it. I don’t think the staff disappearing has any kind of solid indication towards it being moved by Glint, especially when we consider how A. It moved from Orr to Majesty’s Rest when Orr was destroyed, and B., how the Staff of the Mists could only be destroyed in a specific place.
To me, it seems much more likely that the staves had an enchantment on them that makes them warp to a relatively safe place if they are about to be destroyed (other than in a specific place).
I like this idea, it could go a long way towards balancing risk versus reward when it comes to events, though rather than how long the event has been active, I’d say it should be from the last time the event was completed successfully.
Am I missing something? As far as I know, Glint didn’t move the Scepter of Orr, she wasn’t even physically present. After the sinking of Orr, the staff ended up in an ancient crypt in Majesty’s Rest from Orr, to me it seems like the staff has qualities that prevent it’s destruction, causing it to warp elsewhere instead. The Staff of the Mists had to be destroyed in a specific place, now, wouldn’t it make sense if it would have warped as well if someone had attempted to destroy it elsewhere?
Here’s a screenshot from during beta – you’ll probably notice that the dark areas are actually dark. This we want.
I can see them possibly opening new areas of Orr that are undergoing the healing and is being settled, and leaving the existing Orr areas more or less as they are.
That chart is pretty lacking. Engineers have water fields in Healing Turret, and throwing Elixir R creates a light field that isn’t listed on the chart. Throwing Elixir U creates either light or smoke field depending on the outcome.
Using Healing Turret, Bomb Kit, grenade kit and thumper turret with pistol and shield gives you two water fields, fire field, smoke field, poison field, and 6 blast finishers without counting elite skill.
Combo fields are magic in an engineer’s heart.
Its Kralkatorrik
I’ll answer in case that wasn’t a poor attempt at trolling.
It’s not Kralkatorrik. Kralkatorrik isn’t dead, and that dragon corpse bears no marks of any kind that are associated with Kralkatorrik, such as purple crystals or lighting.
Here’s mine. I can’t stand the cultural medium armors for males, but this TA coat I like.
And it’s not from before Zhaitan woke up. Granted, it’s not exactly confirmed to be dead Zhaitan AFAIK, but since it’s from Arah map from early betas, we can assume so. The head looks very much like the original Zhaitan artwork, and it’s found in the map for Arah explorable if I recall correctly (that is, in early betas akitteninz said).
Or it could be just to corpse of some non-significant dragon in Arah. However, whatever it was, it’s not in the game now.
Dragon doesn’t equate elder dragon. I find it extremely unlikely that Glint’s offspring would have been capable of administrating the amount of magic in Tyria. Then again, the seers did do that quite successfully in the past…
Also, displaying message of the day on login would make it much more useful. Most people don’t bother checking it.
That’s Zhaitan’s body, before he was redesigned to what he is now. I kinda wish some of the stuff in the trailer that got changed had stayed that way, like LA…
If you read the wiki page, you should have noticed that there was a link to the said Infinite Coil Reactor. It’s right on top of Crucible of Eternity.
Yeah, seems more likely that they just reused the attack from branded and forgot to change the combat log entry.
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/11186-gw2-character-naming-resources/
i have this thread bookmarked and always use it to come up with names. they always come out good, if i may say so myself.
That entry was most educating.
Terin, I advise you to take a look on that link.
Even though I have to say that the name of the warband is not always at the beginning of the surname. Rytlock Brimstone is from the stone warband, as you can see in the last short story published by A.Net.and some charrs keep their old warband surnames even when they change warbands.
i mean, rytlock was always “brimstone” as far as we know, but he spent a good chunk of EoD without an actual warband.
Rytlock didn’t change or leave his warband, he acted detached from it, in a similar way the player charr do when they join an order.
There’s one huge flaw in your whole idea. There is no asura army. If any asura individual or group would decide to start an armed assault, they’d have real trouble getting anyone interested in following their orders. Though Inquest is kinda exception from this rule, as they are strangely unified for asura.
Against Zhaitan, we heavily armed airships with big guns, Destiny’s Edge, and five by then practically legendary heroes against a starved, cornered dragon. When these things are taken into consideration, Zhaitan comes out stronger.
You know, I’m willing to dismiss this entire interview. As mentioned before, much of it seems like made up at the spot, and the only thing that doesn’t seem so and has relevance (so it can’t be made up at a moment’s notice) is the fact that the dragons balance the amount of magic, which we were pretty much aware of already, and this kind of anticlimactic confirmation just leaves a bad aftertaste.
Anise is a tease, everyone who doesnt notice it on the first look (and her profession) doesnt really have the brightest light.
Anise is a tease. How does that change the fact that she was not only being extremely insensitive, but inciting hatred between charr and humans and dismissing the friendship between Logan and Rytlock as well?
Id probably get kicked 4 times harder in a place that could be called the royal jewels if something like that were to happen and just so, Logan should have been executed by all rights (not only because Balthazar doesnt approve of cowards as we all quite know, not only from all the fights he caused in GW1 – hell pvp in lore exists because of his love for slaughter, but also the 2 missions that include his influnce that turns people into killing machines, but because he allowed a elder dragon to survive over a “true ancestor” of the human royal bloodline.
You are writing as if it was ever certain the plan would succeed if Logan was there. It was either seeing the plan through and maybe defeating the elder dragon, but also leave Jennah to her fate, possibly plunging Kryta in war with the charr and itself. I’d say it was a fairly logical choice. You can say whatever you want in hindsight, but as Konig said in the other thread more relevant to this particular subject, Logan is no fortune teller.
And what does Balthazar have to do with anything? He’s taking his divine nap in Fissure of Woe and cares not about mortal business.
I hunt down veteran karka as a hobby. I can assure you, it’s not pressing one button. If you don’t find challenge in PvE, you aren’t looking for it (though I’d like there to be many, many more interesting and challenging enemies in PvE).
And another thing, if PvE is so easy, why don’t you do it? Because you enjoy PvP more? Well then play PvP. I play both and it’s never bothered me that they are separate.
Think about it, if you had recently come to terms with an old friend who you had been at odds with for years, and someone told you to fight his image, would you just go “Oh, cool, okay!”? Add to that the fact that charr and humans have generally been enemies, that’s like Anise telling Logan that Rytlock is an enemy of humanity, and that Logan shouldn’t trust him.
I’d find it extremely disappointing in terms of story writing if he hadn’t gotten angry.
@lots …that’s what she said
Well they are known for “hulking out”, if you get my drift.
I recall hearing about leviathan-related events in Mount Maelstrom being found in the gw.dat. That was likely where it was to be.
I think there was also one in Lion’s Arch. But it was either removed, or it’s still there, but hidden outside the map bounds. If anyone ever managed to get out of the map, we’d know for sure.
I’ve been under LA map. There are no Leviathans down there (but there is a strange, unreachable portal that looks like the ones found in GW1 Nightfall between zones).
All the other monsters appearing while escorting the ambassadors are native to the area they appear in and through means normal to them, whereas the steam creatures appear seemingly everywhere, and from steam portals.
There’s no “effin” skirt in medium pants because the “effin” skirt is attached to top instead of the pants. There are barely any medium armors that would allow the wearer to show off his or her pants and what lies under, particularly so for males.
Well, there went all the depth and mystery regarding magic.
Canach used a total makeover kit and a name change contract and now is Scarlet! :O
Well he did use one makeover kit already…
I think the purpose behind the Molten Alliance was the magitech that was made out of it – the Fused Weaponry. The two bosses that we fought in the dungeons were very peculiar – a jetpack and cyborg technology that was reminiscent of the Giganticus Lupicus in Arah.
I disagree. There were no signs of anyone outside the alliance overseeing the development of the weaponry, nor have we seen Aetherblades use anything similar.
About the Brisban Wildlands gate – that’s a malfunctioning testing gate that is being designed to have one gate for a trip, and it pulls out several Shiverpeaks creatures – not just Steam Mechataurs, but icebrood and griffons too. I doubt that holds any relevance, since the portals the Aetherblades were using wasn’t using an asura gate when opening (which the testing requires).
My point was that steam creatures do not necessarily mean that the Infinity Ball storyline is directly involved. It still is strange that they use the same kind of portals, though.
I saw the steam creatures in Queensdale, as well. Quite the surprise, really.
As for their reasons… back during Dragon Bash, Mai Trin tried to get into the Captains’ Council, but while she was a captain, she never was the leader of the Aetherblades – she answered to this Scarlet. So, Scarlet wanted to plant Mai Trin into the command of Lion’s Arch. They use airships, so it couldn’t have been for ensuring a port.
If we assume Scarlet to be the personal nemesis, as would be reasonable, then she was also behind uniting the dredge and the Flame Legion. However, it seems she didn’t give them orders (and would Flame Legion even take orders from a woman?). That suggests that the whole Molten Alliance was a diversion. But diversion for who? The Pact? Lion’s Arch? Black Citadel and Hoelbrak? Perhaps for the Consortium? I do not know. But I am quite sure it was a diversion.
And now, Queen’s Jubilee. In a celebration involving powerful clockwork soldiers, we see a sylvari woman dressed in red appear alongside Aetherblades, controlling the systems. We can assume her to be Scarlet.
Now, here’s the interesting thing. She could have easily assassinated Jennah and slip away. She didn’t. That wasn’t her goal. So what were they there for? I feel like they did it to show their power. They’ve got something big planned, and we haven’t seen it yet.
But the steam creature connection is strange. However, in an dynamic event in Brisban Wildlands, a poorly configured Asura Gate spews out Steam Mechataurs, so it could be similar, especially since the Aetherblades may use similar gate technology.
So… am I alone in with this view? Is everyone else fine whacking wargs?
So… you want to remove challenging group content from open world because… you don’t enjoy it? Here’s an idea you might find surprising: some people do enjoy it! If I had the choice, I’d remove all the boring enemies in open world and replace them with enemies more akin to veteran karka in Southsun. Good thing I don’t have the choice, because some people enjoy taking strolls around the zones without stressing themselves!
What is that I hear? You want world completion? Well, my friend, sometimes you have to work in order to get the rewards. Sometimes you can’t do it alone. Don’t demand for an easier world, get some friends to make it through with.
Lets face it, right now, most enemies are boring. You bring them down with DPS and be done with them. Adding more CC to them just made people QQ. So, what do I suggest?
*Add high-toughness enemies that take a long time to kill with just damage to make conditions valuable.
*Add more enemies with a lot of boons or conditions to make boon and condition removal valuable.
*Add enemies that move in groups and utilize group tactics.
*Make all enemies attack faster. Seriously, most open world enemies are trivial because they barely do anything, and the only thing making most dungeon enemies any harder is that they deal crazy damage by comparison. Confusion and retaliation are laughable in PvE, because the enemies barely attack at all
With these changes applied to every area of the game, in open world, dungeons, fractals, WvW, PvE would be more challenging, more interesting, and most importantly, more fun.
Some people might disagree with me, but I find the veteran Karka in Southsun Cove to be exactly the kind of enemy endgame zone should contain – challenging, and requiring some thinking and specialization (boon removal, stun breakers).
I believe Nuzt is talking about the slots for attached items, in which case 5 indeed is a bit lacking.
Regarding DSD, there are the still unexplained tentacles in the karka hive in Southsun Cove, that appeared with the Secret of Southsun release. Those could be related to DSD.
In GW1 we had Verata’s Gaze to severe a necromancer’s control of a minion, which made the minion neutral (it would just stand around, or attack something randomly). Would this technically work against the Risen?
As Konig wrote, the Risen are not necromantic minions, they are dragon minions made from corpses. The magic used by the dragons is most likely inherently different from the magic used by the races, so they don’t mix like that.
One thing id like to point out is how can any race have an empire when each only controls one city? empires usually span multiple countries which in turn have multiple cities.
Kryta has one capital city but a large number of towns, not all of which you can visit ingame due to space issues. Though Kryta I’d really consider a kingdom, not an empire.
The charr have three major capital cities. Remember, what we can go to is only Iron legion territory. There’s also the Blood Legion and Ash Legion reasons, which are just as large as the Iron Legion territory we see ingame, further north and east. They are a legitimate Empire, only thing really stopping them is the fact they are technically three government bodies working toward the same goal. That and the enemies in every possible direction.
Hardly an empire, when there is no emperor. Empire is, by definition, multiple nations ruled by a single leader, emperor. The charr have three separate legions, which could be seen as acting as nations working together, however, in the absence of Khan-Ur, no single charr rules over them all. None of the nations of Tyria apply, either. Norn and asura don’t even really have a nation, and with sylvari it’s arguable. Technically, the sylvari live in anarchy, as they have no ruling body, not counting advice and direction from the Pale Tree and the firstborn. Interestingly enough, even without a ruler or government, they still have armed forces keeping order.
The sylvari are a monarchy. The pale tree is the ruler.
The Pale Tree doesn’t give commands to the sylvari. Each sylvari is free to act according to their will, the Pale Tree just gives guidance. Though she does act as a representative leader in a sense, she can’t decide, for example, for the sylvari as a whole to fight in a war.
Ok, it’s more like a theocracy. She’s like the high priestest of the dream.
Doesn’t the pale tree program their memories at birth so their personalities are programmed. born with knowledge but not experience. So how they act is partialy determined by the pale tree enslaving the sylvari to its will.
When asked about the Dream, the Avatar of the Tree answers along the lines of “I do not control the Dream, I am merely it’s caretaker”. The sylvari receive glimpses of random memories of what other sylvari have experienced (which is why it’s strange why a sylvari in Lion’s Arch will say “I saw your face in my dream” to a newly awakened player character…). Also, any sylvari may choose to abandon the Dream, and not always as in turning to nightmare, see Soundless.
Yeah, talking about god forms, I saw Abaddon’s form change to be somewhat of a reflection of his personality. I mean the first description we have of him comes from a GW1 guide that I know Konig and a few others have posted a few times that talks about him holding a somewhat fair and possibly even handsome appearance. That being said, a lot of murals and images of him (some merely concept art) show him in a more demonic, mutated form. Now honestly, we do not know what exactly he looks like during the final fight against the gods, but I would guess his form may have changed, though not because of where he got his powers from, but instead what his personality is reflecting. It makes me think back to Lord of the Rings and Melkor/Morgoth and Sauron. These two originally had beautiful and fair forms, but eventually they grew so cruel and evil that they could no longer hold their forms in that state, and instead they reflected the personality within.
Your theory make sense since most of the Gods now similarly resemble a bit like humans, whereas Abaddon who seem corrupted got his image alter to more like Arachnia.
Take notice that the shape of the other gods that we see in statues and murals and such is all based on statues made by one man, Malchor, who took just a glimpse at each god to avoid being blinded, save for the statue of Dwayna, which he took his time to make. It would stand to reason that he filled in for what he couldn’t remember from the short glimpse at the gods with human features.
Probably just her being humorous. She seems to have that kind of attitude through the dungeon (“See me push a button!”). Or maybe she dated a charr in the past?
I like this idea a lot, I feel like the home instances really are underdeveloped and this would add a good element of personalization to them.
1v1 does not mean an absolute test of skill, as some professions and builds are simply far superior in 1v1 than others, and the game isn’t balanced around dueling but 5v5 games. However, you can set up your own sPvP room for dueling if you so wish and are willing to pay for it, I did that with my guild.
Well, the voting tickets come in two forms – as consumable bags that hold them, and as the tickets themselves, and the bags are of common rarity if I remember right.
Also, you might have looted the items faster than the chest could have appeared, or you might have looted them from other sources than enemies, such as from the kite baskets.
I’m just saying changes happen, they just happen somewhat realistically, usually slowly but sometimes suddenly.
Risen in Orr have been gradually changed to look more decayed, and they at least seem to be less frequent.
Allow me. When RNG picks a number in your favor for your drops, the game checks the rarity for the items you can loot. If the loot includes at least one item with the rarity rare, instead of just a shining corpse, the loot marker will be a wooden chest. If it has an exotic, the loot marker will be a metal chest. The chest is just that, a marker that tells you got something special.
Southsun had pretty massive zone-wide so far permanent changes to it with The Secret of Southsun release. Living World makes stuff happen, it seems, don’t expect everything to stay same for all eternity.
So very amusing. Tell me, how does “some people” translate to “everyone” in that mind of yours? And did I ever say anything about what I want or not want? I merely stated the reasoning behind the decision Anet made. And no matter what you say, it’s a selfish stat, it does nothing to help your allies, instead leaving the one with it with a liability in combat, weakening the overall party. From how defensive you act, it’s almost as if you were afraid someone might look badly at you because you use MF! Truly amusing!
Because I don’t like being selfish, that’s why. I actually do have a MF set, for solo farming for materials. But, while I would never use it in a dungeon, some people would, and having a “selfish stat” goes against the cooperative nature of the game. You’re getting kitten over us stating the reasons why Anet is removing it, I don’t recall judging you at any point. Though it is amusing to see you get so worked up.
If you want pants, check Ascalon Catacombs armor and the first tier crafted light armor. As for crafted precursors, if you read a bog post they made a while ago, they are working on that.
Also, it’s pointless to complain about the style the developers choose for the game. If you don’t like some themes, well, that’s your personal view on the matter.
The problem with MF gear is that you get more for doing less, which really sucks for others playing with you, especially in dungeons and such. That’s the reason.
