PvE - Merging the GW2 Philosophy with RAIDS

Turial.1293

You lost me in your title but I clicked just in case I was wrong but you again lost me before the end of the first sentence. Your idea won’t be received well by players, I would like to point out;

Example A:

As in every other new MMO

Example B:

Raids was a great way for other MMOs

Raids are not in GW2, GW2 does not have raids, GW2 is not every other MMO.

If you would’ve read the whole post, you would’ve seen that I set GW2 apart from the Traditional MMOs and praise the Guildwars 2 philosophy as an evolution of the MMO genre.

GW2 sets itself apart, which is why I have to ask do you want to add raids (another games idea) to this? How can it continue to evolve if it just copies the tired old formats of what came before it?

Look around a bit, there are tons of posts from casual players claiming that dungeons are too hard, too many people required for a party (yeah 5 is too many now) and takes too much of their time. They demand solo dungeons, they feel they are entitled to see this content without meeting any requirements. This would happen to your raids as well, they will cry it’s too hard to get so many people, and that they NEED to see this content simply because they bought the game. Current dungeons also only give out cosmetic items, yet they just want to be able to see them and admire the scenic dungeon interior without actually playing them as they were intended to be played.

If there’s a reasonable amount of players that think Dungeons are too difficult or intimidating, then that’s something I didn’t know about.

If you spent only a few days on the forums you would know that many players find dungeons difficult without stronger parties or guild mates to help. The general PUG group does not cut it in all instances. I did not need to read every bit of your post to realise what you were asking for, others have asked for it, most don’t want it.

Remove waypoint cost and why it is a problem

in Suggestions

Posted by: Turial.1293

Turial.1293

I did a bit of a survey of some of the costs involved:

Example 1:
I used a waypoint from Lion’s Arch to Malchor’s Leap (Pagga’s waypoint), costing 2 s 76 c.
My character wandered around for 6 minutes, harvested, completed one event and then sold all my items to an NPC merchant, yielding 5 s 59 c.

Example 2:
I then waypointed about 100 metres north-east of my character’s position to Waste Hollows Waypoint, costing1 s 40 c.
My character wandered around for 7 minutes, harvested, came across and completed 2 events, then once again sold all my items to an NPC merchant, which yielded in total 7 s 05 c.

Example 3:
Waypointed from Malchor’s Leap to the Snowden Drifts(Snowhawk Landing), costing 2 s 23 c.
My character wandered in roughly a straight line (to mimic travelling to a specific goal/point) for 10 minutes, harvested, didn’t come across any events. Garnered loot and harvested items I sold to an NPC merchant for 3 s 28 c. This time however I made note first of how much coin I would’ve made if selling them to buyers at Black Lion Trade. It would have been 24 s 21 c.

Example 4:
Waypointed from Snowden Drifts to Wayfarer Foothills (Hero’s Moot): 1 s 67c.
Wandered again, harvesting, and completed two event my character came across. After ~8 mins I could sell all items to an NPC merchant for 3 s 35 c, or to buyers on the Black Lion Trader for 4 s 82 c.

In each case between waypointing my character around I endeavoured to play the game the way the developers intended it (e.g. not train through mobs etc). It’s not perfect but I think it clearly shows just how trivial waypoint fees are when done in this way.

This should be the answer to this thread, waypoint costs are nothing compared to what you earn in the game, if you don’t want to spend gold then walk everywhere, that is the choice.

Commander Rate System

Turial.1293

Really, it is quite easy to see if a Commander is bad just from the first battle.

LOL, this is ridiculous, what if the other server uses superior tactics, what if they get lucky, what if there is not many online to command, what if nobody listens, what if the commander has RL issues to contend with, what if the other server hacks, what if the the commander does everything right and odds are in their favor but the advance loses because their siege went down too early or the other server got reinforcements at the last time or if the third server ends up double-teaming?

There are plenty of reasons why an advance could go wrong and judging a book by the cover is terrible, you cannot judge from one battle…. You expect people to get everything right the first time?

“PvB, as in players vs noobs.”

You mean PvN? Also it is very obvious someone missed the point of sPvP, if you cannot set your build to defense to survive other players then set it to offense so people don’t want to fight you. If I see a Thief make a dart for me I turn/run and lead it around and around or back into my team. There is strategy out there, you seem to have missed it. If it really is noobs at 40+ then surely you should be kicking kitten in which case you would not be complaining. Sounds more like these 40+ noobs are wiping the floor with you and you are a bit kitten. If you are looking for strategy you make friends, guild, party and enter the tournies, if you are trying to control random people after just joining a game then yeah I don’t expect them to help you either. Try WvW, you get to kill noobs and do bigger strategy, good luck getting people to listen there also. So, in essence, PvP aint broken, your fun just might be though.

Can a mod close this rant please?

No respawning in the Dungeon rez-rush

in Suggestions

Posted by: Turial.1293

Turial.1293

If your party gets downed that often, you should wiki the dungeon or ask people for hints. Dungeon’s are teamwork, you don’t have that expect to die a lot. Rez rushing was removed for multiple reasons: these dungeon encounter’s weren’t teamwork based as much as throwing your body into a pit of death, they didn’t promote healthy gameplay (you have to die to progress?) and it wasn’t intended. You can still spawn at wp, AFTER your team exits combat. IF they want to go ahead and kill the boss without you then get angry with the teamates, but the removal of rez rushing was great (plus they adjusted several dungeons so there wouldn’t be a need for rez rushing.) You will on occasion come across a stray kitten who seems lost the entire time. That is life (in an MMO), but I highly doubt you come across a full party of them on a regular basis. I run with randoms constantly and rarely come across these kittens.

I agree with the first half of your post about teamwork and die to progress but you seriously can’t believe it is in the best interests of the players to stop killing a boss at 5% and let it reset just to res a single player so that they can get loot. If the loot did not suck enormously I would understand it but the effort of killing the boss far outweighs a crappy blue item and some silver. If someone drops in the last 30 secs of a boss from a bad dodge or whatever and they did not drop at all during the fight then is it really fair for them to miss out on their loot? It is definitely a bug.

Could you either remove the option to press F to them or move them further back in the AH so we can talk to the actual TP merchant?

It is not that a Necro is bad… well, it is just that they are not really OP in any way for your average “i want my legendary in a week” sort of gamer. I recently met a young man on Teamspeak who joined the game and is in love with his Necro, explaining what he loves about them in detail from builds to variety. Myself, on my own Necromancer, I just don’t feel the love, not my play style. You have 5 slots, you should test them all out, in fact, i have 8 for each profession so I can make up my own mind.

To put it in perspective, let’s say a dungeon is not going smoothly, nobody will say “hang on, a necro, that’s what we need” and that is unfortunate. They can be fun.

Just my thoughts now but I believe that since it is supposed to implement persistent world changes that you will miss out if you do not play it when the new content is released BUT I also believe that anything that is changed will be permanent. Think of the karka event as a basic version of it, you are playing one day and stop for a month and when you return you find the lighthouse destroyed and the lion statue returned. You will not know where the stuff came from but it would be much more fun to be at the event than be told about it a month later. I think they learned their lesson about handing out precursors so if it is a question of loot I don’t think you should worry

Player homes not worth development effort

Turial.1293

So do I want player housing? If it’s anything like LotRO’s then that’s a resounding “YES!”

Extra storage.
House expansions (like a tower, basement or an extra wing)
A place to store Mini’s (let them run free!)

Crafted furniture.
Merchant furniture.
Gem store furniture.
Karma furniture.
Trophy furniture (like a rare shelf made from bones, or something, only found by killing a certain Champion).
Event furniture.
Seasonal furniture.

Merchant music/floors/wallpaper.
Gem store music/floors/wallpaper.
Karma music/floors/wallpaper.
WvW music/floors/wallpaper.
PvP music/floors/wallpaper.
Event music/floors/wallpaper.
Seasonal music/floors/wallpaper.

Crafted trophies.
Merchant trophies.
Gem store trophies.
Loot trophies (like a Boar’s head or a mounted Devourer)
Event trophies (blue, green, yellow orange and pink versions).
Dungeon trophies.
WvW trophies.
PvP trophies.
Seasonal trophies.

The avenues for decorating your house are many, to say the least.

After reading this I kinda wanna play LOTRO Based on what you said, here is my reply;

More storage – who would say no to storage, fixed or not.
Extensions – the home distracts have been built, I don’t see it happening soon if at all.
Mini farm – hell yes!
Furniture, carpet, wallpaper – meh, I am finished with the sims, I want to play gw2
Music – a jukebox would not be a bad touch, anything to drown out NPCs.
Trophies – this is what housing should have more than anything else, have a use for 1000 wurm slayer kills adds a wurm head to the wall, a trophy with a raccoon/rabbit on the fireplace for the indiscriminate of us and trophies for 1-of-a-kind monsters would be good also.

As of now home districts are only entered for map completion or sometimes personal story, fingers crossed this is worked on soon.

Let’s see – apparently only “KIDS” do this. I’m in my 40s – I’d have done it if I’d thought of it. Kudos to those smart enough to come up with a creative way to meet this particular daily. I suspect the atmosphere among those suiciding/rezzing was probably much like the day about 150 of us spontaneously began jumping to our deaths in Wayfarer Foothills during the Beta Finale. Sorry I missed it.

Sorry but there is nothing smart about it at all, it’s a solution only someone with very low IQ would come up with, any normal player would have completed the rezzing daily less than a hour with NORMAL playing.

As for killing NPC so that they can rez them, why should people not complete let say guard events because one person wants the NPC dead, i would protect him if that was me.

This is what I mean by KIDS, this was yesterday in Orr, so yes it does affect others when these players start spamming crap, its rude and shows there age.

You should not have blocked his name, how else can I put a player like that on my ignore list.

So it is fair to make people get less loot because they should be carrying you through the dungeon faster? You assume that a full zerk zerg dungeon is the way to go? The whole point of gw2 is that there is no meta, none of this elitist crap and I have to say they are on the right track, they nearly have it. As far as you are concerned unless the player is in zerk he is not helping you… sounds a bit selfish to me.

Here is an extract from a recent post on lfg;
“LF1M DPS warrior with serker set. CoF path1 speed farm link armors for invite!”

This is not the way the game was intended to be, you might try to mask it under efficiency but at the end of you want your loot, your loot, you don’t care if others get theirs as long as they dps fast enough so you can farm all day. You do care about someone with MF gear as this means there is a chance that they get better loot before you, answer is simple, you wear MF also and stop crying stof. You can shove your stats where you like for all I care. If I decide to wear mf then I put my stats a little, barely noticeable, lower, if I put my stats higher then I am putting my loot on the back burner, pros/cons to each. The only difference is players don’t kick you from a party for wearing berserkers.

What’s wrong with ym understanding of time? What’s stopping them from setting different time settings for different continents that have nothing inbetween. You can’t even guest in a north american server.

The dailies reset at the exact same moment in time all over the world, special events all get released at the exact same moment in time. Different timezones explains what time in which part of the world it will be available. 12 noon for them is 8pm for us, it is the same time but in a different part of the world. This prevents people from complaining that “ooh, not fair, US got it 6 hours early, now im one laurel behind everybody” It is in the interest of being fair to everyone so please go back to school and ask your maths teacher to explain it to you again.

Also I never cared to know when the north americans get their reset.

And this is pure ignorance.

Vehemently defending? Im only stating it is ridiculous to be against mf. There is a crusade against mf in a game where challenge is near zero because “you sacrifice some stats”. Just let people use whatever they want. That is what I am vehemently defending.

The issue is that MF users are selfish to impose such change for their sole benefit. No matter how small the change is, it remains that they made a selfish decision against their party members in a game that should be cooperative.

Just average every player MF in a party ANet and everything will be fine.

Apparently MF users are selfish because they are not contributing to party? So if someone was to use T/V gear they are not contributing because they are only thinking of their own well-being, lets make T/V average amongst all players to make it fair. What about people using stats for boon duration? Are they selfish because their gear only extends their boons and not the party…. are they selfish? Berserkers, you putt less in survivability because you want to do more damage…. since you are likely to die for not wearing toughness does that make you selfish? This discussion is like punching a wall, just because you can start a fight and hit it does not mean you can knock it down.

For all the anti-MF users, can you give me an example of Pro-MF users forcing you to wear berserkers, knights, givers, etc.? Chances are no, because you are the only people that care about forcing stat decisions on other people. Grow up and play the game you want and not forcing others to play the game you want. At the end of the day I could give a crap what you wear to a dungeon as long as you are social, polite and are having fun.

US time was whatever (lets say 3pm) so they had till 5pm to finish. You don’t understand timezones…. they had the same amount of time to finish the daily as everyone else.

I’m not sure US dailies restart at 5pm their time. Seems illogical

Dailies reset at 00:00 GMT, So those living in the same time zone as the server have their dailies reset at 4:00 PM PST (which is GMT – 8:00)

I thought that’s just for the European datacenter. The NA one having its own time settings o.O

PS: Either way the update should’ve been held back if they were doing work on it last night and release it a lot earlier today. This way they could’ve catch the bug a lot earlier and disable it on time, without screwing players. Now I’m 1 day behind half of my server’s population because I wasn’t lucky enough to tackle this achievement. And excuse me if I’m wrong but, I see no other way of farming ascended amulets, other than obtaining through laurels. For reference, I had both ascended rings few days after fractals were added to the game, so yeah, I’m willing to grind for the best stat, for now >.> although screwing me up big time, is bad

“It was clearly not working as intended.” I am sure if they had tested it a little better they would not have released it, the patch was far bigger than we expected and a single daily which will not matter weeks/months was not their priority with trying to get it out on time. If it had been ready they could have released it at 8am their time easily.

Other ascended gear will be added to fractals over time, show some patience and read previous updates.

As for your post and your understanding of “time” please refer to my friend Jackie below;

Turial.1293

I have not read the last few pages so I can only hope this idea has not been mentioned; I like the wp change, I do. I understand that res-rushing for certain bosses was a cheap and unworthy tactic but also at times this really helped if things go sour in the last 5% hp of a boss that took 15 mins to DPS and it resets, that is very frustrating. So in some ways it was good, but look at the lupi fight, if you went down there it was about 2 mins before you had run all the way back and rejoined the fight. My suggestion would be for the ressing to have a timer (~20) to sort this, I mean it is frustrating when not in a boss fight and someone in the party aggroed a small mob at the other side of the dungeon, I cant res until they either flee/kill the mob. A timer would do just as well as and sort out the problem of res-rushing. Sometimes people need that small bit of luck where you make it back into battle at the last second to res them but now if someone makes even one mistake at any point in these battles it causes a lot of pain, a lot. I sure do not look forward to fighting lupi any time soon I tell you.

I like the change, I just think it might be a little overkill. I mean your party should be able to hold out for 30-60 seconds without you plus whatever time it takes to run back, if they can’t then they need to look at tactics. As of right now though, with dungeon difficulty and boss health, a small mistake can cost you perhaps 15 mins if the boss resets.

Also, great work on the update, I really look forward to the future changes

Separate guild channels would be helpful, I would not mind if I could have 4-5 chat tabs opened so when I click it I can see which guild is saying what. They have separate chat for several different channels such as guild/party/emote/game messages, etc. It could not be that hard to add in some more that specifically assign to each of your guilds.

Chats:
Party
Guild #1
Guild #2
Guild #3
Game messages
Emotes

It could sort the guild alphabetical, [Abr] is your 1st guild, [KzZ] comes 2nd and then [WWz] would be 3rd.

As for representing, I find most people stick to one guild and rep that more due to it being bigger and having more people to talk to but at least for me it is Influence points, I can only bring IP in for 1 guild at a time, it makes sense but it sure does suck. Just makes a multiple guildie not contribute even more; they can’t see guild chat, they don’t see message of the day, they may not be using the TS, they don’t bring in influence. Multiple guilding was a nice idea but it has too many downfalls or not enough use.

Gems can be bought with real cash or you can use the currency exchange which is the 2nd tab when your press [O] in game. It can be pricey to trade in your hard earned coins for gems so decide if it is easier to buy gems or to farm coins.

No, you never need gems. Items from the gem store are only there to enhance your play, you paid for the game itself and that is the only cash you will ever NEED to spend on GW2. You can buy items from silly hats to xp boosters, nothing that you will need though.

You can buy gear from armorsmiths, you can craft the gear yourself with materials harvested, you can loot gear off of enemies, you can get unique gear from dungeon tokens, and finally you can buy gear from other players via the Trading Post [O]

WAT. You say toughness is useless and you don’t want to be forced wearing an offensive gear?!?!?!

And imply that MF users are the most skillful players in game coz you’re one?

Joke man. Whatta big Joke.

Ya. Not what I said. You’re building strawmen.

I said toughness was useless on easy content. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve referenced AC and low level fractals in this discussion.

I’ve also not once tried to make a sweeping generality about MF player skill. I am highly skilled. I know not at all how much skill anyone else in this thread has. I want to be rewarded for my high level of skill, so I wear MF gear on content where the alternative gear wouldn’t really matter.

Now you did get the part about me not wanting to be forced to wear specific gear pretty close. Ask yourself, what if I insisted that if you played a guardian you had to wear toughness/vitality/power armor and go with an alturuistic healing shout build because that’s what would be best for me if I ever ended up grouped with you?

(side note: I love being grouped with one alt healing shout guardian…gimmee boons)

Doesn’t it seem a lot more selfish to tell someone else what build and what gear they had to use?

After all, all I’m asking for is superior skill to receive superior rewards which is kinda how the real world is supposed to work (please note all the qualifiers I stuck in the second half of that sentence…and make sure you understand what I mean by qualifiers). To me, that’s not selfish. It’s how things should be.

there is an illusion of uselessness of toughness in AC. yes it is a level 30 something fractal so you don’t notice the numbers actually kicking in. but try to remove one piece of armor which is akin to decreasing toughness and take damage. you see dmg numbers go up right?. in fractals where the numbers are much bigger, it is noticeable. ive noticed bad mf gear players die most of the time in one or 2 hits. it can’t be denied coz mf gear is a glass cannon gear. low toughness/low vita, less buffer for damage that WILL hit you.

Most players can do AC with their eyes closed at this point, and sure when you get into fractals of 25+ I can understand that you need to be focused and not in MF gear because when it comes to F40s you do need every stat you have along with all your skill. The “problem” is because of elitists, and this thread has many, the average pug thinks that MF is leech gear and pugs tend to follow the loudest, ignorant person they find. This poison from elitists has convinced pugs that MF is completely useless and anyone wearing it needs to be gunned down…. When you see in AC people asking for 80s only or no-mf it hurts a little, why, because these players are spouting this and have probably never run the dungeon before, and if they have they continue to get destroyed in their berserker arah gear and then follow suit with “who is using mf?” The problem is not MF, the problem is selfish elitists who think that other people are not allowed a better chance at loot because they want to farm the dungeons as fast as possible and repeatedly…. why? To get more tokens/coin income. So, is that not selfish? Sure, every player is getting the coins/tokens but the players are being forced to run the dungeon in ways they are not happy with just to suit you…..

Play the game, stop being selfish and leave MF alone, it is in the game, people can use whatever they want.

enemy attacks – (if)dodge – player(survive)
enemy attacks – (if)no dodge – player(death)

enemy dies – (if)wearing magic find- player(gets higher chanced loot)
enemy dies – (if)not wearing magic find – player(moans histerically that the loot in the game is crap and Anet needs to fix their loot tables and ban MF users because they suck, leech and hack)

Maybe I’m misquoting, but the above formula seems to coincide with the game. Notice how wearing MF gear is not related with being able to dodge?

no ok wait, No one is hacking, they are selfish ok, but they are using a mechaninc introduced by devs, and well known.
Please dont defend our point by adding HACK as counterpart, because using MF is not hack at all.

Face-palm
Nobody is selfish, the point I am making is that those few people who are against other people using MF gear always come out with absurd responses. I was not, under any circumstances, defending your moot point.

Selfish:
1
: concerned excessively or exclusively with oneself : seeking or concentrating on one’s own advantage, pleasure, or well-being without regard for others
2
: arising from concern with one’s own welfare or advantage in disregard of others <a selfish act>

MF by mechanic is selfish

Hmm I think of everyone kittening about not wearing “pro-berserker” and this dictionary copy-paste applies to that also. All anti-MF players here are; “seeking or concentrating on one’s own advantage, pleasure, or well-being without regard for others” – “arising from concern with one’s own welfare or advantage in disregard of others”

I think Ganzo said it best with “but they are using a mechaninc introduced by devs, and well known.” So stop crying over a game mechanic, the few minutes to spare you might make from everyone following the trend of berserkers is minuscule at best, there is not enough gimping to warrant a removal of it from the game. The numbers you speak of are not noticeable, I say you are prolly just cheesed off because someone is putting thought into getting better loot.

While you have already been answered I’ll just throw this in anyway. Whenever I decide to buy a new game I always wonder the same thing so I found a site http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri and have always checked it whenever I was unsure. Very helpful for people who do not understand computer jargon such such as dual-core or 3600QM, etc.

If you do use it there will be a pop-up you need to run which lets it see your pc and give you your results, and it is safe Most games show both a min and max requirements to play.

You will have to explore more.

If you enter the same map as the dungeon and your party enters it, then you will get a pop up on your screen, you do not have to be directly outside it but you do need to be in the map that the dungeon is in. You are just gonna have to explore.

Sorry to say but unless you know how to use the TP to gain money then you are looking at dungeons. AC/CoF is run most often as it is very fast or gives a good return. Use Omnomberry bars while they may seem expensive you will make your money back off the first dungeon boss you kill with it and it lasts for 30 mins so you will always double/triple the price of using it, AC can usually churn out 3-5g if you run just 3 paths.

The excess dungeon tokens you don’t want can be traded in for exotic dungeon armor, you can salvage those for ectos if you are lucky. There is also Orr which you will be farming a lot for all the high end materials such as ancient wood planks and omnom berries, depending on which legendary you want the materials needed will be different.

Final piece of advice would be Fractals, the loot here seems to be far superior to that of any dungeons or farming mats. You can easily net a few rares and exotics here per day so check that out too.

Hoped this helps

@Essence Snow:

The difference between me running my MF warrior in AC using MF gear and zerker is maybe 2-3 minutes off the run time. Average players are already overkill for AC’s difficulty and you don’t get linear returns as you push farther and farther into that overkill zone. If it was graphed stats versus run time, the graph would definitely start to flatten out long before we get to explorer’s/knight’s gear, let alone zerker.

One bad spawn of extra graveling scavengers costs more than 5 minutes.

Deltha bugging and needing to be lured to her death can cost an entire dungeon run up to that point if she doesn’t unbug.

A graveling scavenger deciding to nom on Hodgkins rather than the player guarding him can force a reset that costs 5 or more minutes.

Kholer being spawned with a pair of elementalists versus a pair of warriors can double the time it takes to kill him because he’s really good at tanking for them, and they hit hard and have AoE’s.

One or two sub 80 teammates costs more than 5 minutes.

One guy needing to go afk because his dog is about to piddle on the carpet is 2-3 minutes.

One gal needing to go afk because she’s about to piddle on the carpet is 5 or so minutes.

So many things cost more time than I could possibly make up by switching to zerker gear, and many of them are completely beyond the control of the players.

LOVE IT! Let us not forget the guys who wear Arah berserker with Twilight rage quitting because a single person was downed ~ 1-30mins to replace depending when you play and how many friends are online.

So there I was in AC when someone gets a rare drop from the spider boss, most folks do the nice thing thing and say congrats… not for this guy, apparently “you think that’s good, I get exotics all the time in WvW” ……. ??

So my game manages to crash just as he says this so I get back into the game ASAP and discuss it.

Linsey, I understand GW2 is very large and the sheer volume of items in it that sometimes things here and there can be misplaced/misaligned, whatever word you want to use for the mix-up of icons; but don’t you think the people that were hired for this should have got it right the first time around? While icons are not specifically high on the to-do list, how can they manage to only get 5 of 6 armor pieces correct or to forget a whole set of weapons? I understand the odd one here and there but there has been a lot of muck-ups and they should be fixed asap, not waiting until there is a new monthly patch.
