Agree with OP, disagree with 2nd poster, you should have to work for some items and just buy them. (i am aware you can buy gems and trade for gold to buy them but still)
Am I the only player who doesn’t want level 80 in my first week of playing, who doesn’t want all dungeon armor in 2-3 weeks and who doesn’t want my legendary after 4 weeks? Why is everyone rushing, enjoy the game.
EDIT: The problem is that you were all spoiled by having servers that level you to max in an hour cough WoW cough
As said above they are rewards, if you want them that bad then play gw1, it is still there and people are still playing it.
As my ranger I can run him pretty well, I can kite, I can dodge; I have also been known to solo a group event (a large boss on his own) and that is without dying or even getting downed but the personal stories are far too difficult for solo work. There was a particular quest late in the game involving guarding a shipment of mortars to take out some undead, the first couple of enemies were veterans….. i think i was downed once and killed outright three times without even having a chance to be downed and this all under a minute or two…. a bit ridiculous as far as I am concerned. As I said above I know how to handle my ranger, I still had trouble. I hate to imagine these quests with a squishy character or some character I am terrible with. They should either tone down the difficulty or make it relevant to the profession, perhaps both.
The roll back while unfortunate does happen sometimes, I have seen people flaring up as they were 10 hits from taking down a dungeon boss and whatnot. The ambiguous choice you got is exactly that, it was written in a way that is just confusing; the reason you got it was that you were at the same story point as the leader of the group and you had a choice to continue with their choices in the quest or staying and doing it with your own choices. All you can do is run the quest again I am afraid
I have enjoyed the backdrop idea, it is nice to see my characters armor up close but yes i believe they need a little polishing, no doubt about that. I whole-heartedly agree with the fact about making them speak in a way that they acknowledge their own surroundings, be it a war, a dinner party or death. They smile like village idiots the whole way through, i wonder do they actually understand what they are doing?
I will disagree there, their failing was not mixing personal and main story, their failing was doing it badly. They needed to introduce Trahearne better and for all characters they need to give us more than 20 minutes play with each of them. Also becoming a member of Destinys Edge will not happen; first off parties are 5-man only and then DE was a certain group of people that did a lot. You can’t just join at some point in the future and expect the same reaction, (think cliff burton and jason newsted)
Considering your choices in the game don’t actually matter (thanks trahearne) it seems a bit odd that you can’t buy them anyway. I mean sure, it makes sense that you can only buy the armor of your order but as everything else you do is irrelevant I think they should cut some slack perhaps?

Hey CP, I could spam everything our guild does as the other automated posts above but how I about I lay it out differently for you. Join Whispers of Acoma, we are laidback, friendly and helpful; we possess the Teamspeak that you desire and also have Irish people on it daily, so if you want to play the game, have fun and chat with some kooks, then join us, join WoA.
perhaps we need a joke skin hammer, have the end of it like a childs lunchbox or something?
(i am kidding btw)
Here is a crazy thought… pick the order that follows your play style the best instead of trying to max level and enjoy the game?
I realize English is not your first language but if you are going to rant about something on a forum, at least try to form a single clear thought instead of sounding like a spoiled 6 year old who is pouting because your parents bought you the blue one instead of the red one.
Actually I take that back, my 6 year old speaks clearer and makes more sense then your rants do.
I kinda love this player btw Vic, read this http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Transmutation understand? In this game, it does not matter what you pick. It all leads to Trahearne taking your glory anyway :P
Hopefully you get to read this one Whispers of Acoma is a helpful, friendly guild; we have older players and look for maturity in members; we have forums and teamspeak so come chat with us sometime. The leader is a huge EQ2 fan so I am sure you will have plenty to chat about, we like to be laidback, play the game in our own time while having fun doing it and helping members to to advance. If WoA interests you then send a mail my way
We have a choice of 39 animals based on land, and 20 based in water, now yes some of those are exclusive to their terrain and others are amphibious. I don’t think it unreasonable to add 1 more underwater pet considering the model is already there for the pet, they just need to make it look a little less undead.
Can’t wait to have my very own Donatello.
Hey Thorz, I am from Whispers of Acoma, you have mentioned all the things we do in game, including have Teamspeak and forums for our members. I myself am Irish so you can guarantee that we will play together at some point Our forum address is in my signature, you can also PM me here or in game to chat/quest with. We are a mature, friendly and helpful guild (says so in our charter) so we can provide you with what you are looking for
Hi timmetjek, I would like to offer you an invitation to Whispers of Acoma, a Crystal Desert based guild that has a focus on team play, helping members to enjoy the game and play it when they get stuck. PM me here or in game with any questions.
A lot of imo justified criticism about the p.story and how anet went about it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aEla26siA0&feature=g-all-uOh God, that hurt to listen to.
First 7 minutes were nothing but rambling and ‘justifying’ his opinions.Coulda taken 30 seconds to get that point across.
Had to stop the video for 5 minutes and go do something interesting, and then never bothered finishing the other 28 minutes of video. If he really wants to be taken seriously, he needs to learn to be To The Point. I mean, this wasn’t some “random rambling while playing the game”. It was a voice recording overlayed onto gameplay footage.
So exactly how large is your attention sp – SQUIRELL!!
The replies in this forum topic hurt my head.
To the OP: What part of “mysteriously vanished” don’t you understand?
They may have a storyline, they may not, as of right now it is a mystery and everyone is a little focused on the dragons.
And since there is no sun underwater they should wear solar hats?
Moth, in war, there are casualties, and it is usually the guys that run in swords swinging for a dragon. If they want to leroy an elder dragon then let them but let them die, harshly. That should get them to learn the word strategy and to know that running at a dragon is not a good option, this is provided of course that Anet can offer a challenging end boss.
Whether they are actual leaves crafted into clothes or leaves grown from their body it does not really matter. What matters is that is ugly and dyes horribly :/
I do sometime hear the audio cue, sometimes not. The “helpful suggestions” you guys give are perfectly fine for solo play, but my pet never dies in solo anyways. In a general melee, with dozens of characters involved, it’s far too subtle to notice my pet “slinking back” or its HP bottoming out for a split second, or my character saying something (amongst numerous sound effects). This needs to be very simple, a big flashing red light in your face that tells you the pet is dead dead dead, do something about it. Subtlety has no place here.
Pretty much sums up what I was going to say, there is sometimes far too much going on to notice whether or not your pet is alive, while I rarely have problems with this as I tend to always watch my pet it does happen, the pet dies and you won’t notice when you are trying to kite from 3 veterans smacking you about the place.
I also am a fan of the axe/warhorn choice but it really is down to how you play or what the situation requires. My personal choices are axe/axe for anti-melee and longbow for when i want to stay back. I love the speed of a shortbow but the attacks never suited my playstyle and i was almost finished the main story before i remembered that my ranger could equip greatswords.
But Crake, I may be fairly useful with my ranger but be completely dire with my mesmer. I am the same player but using a different character that suits my style of play. Why should I be punished for wanting to outfit my alts that I don’t play as often? I am still doing the work but on a character I am much more effective with. Account bound stops me selling items which is fine but Soulbound is unfair to players, the armor and weapons and armor are already level based so you can’t exactly farm high level gear for your characters.
Send a ticket with pictures to support, sounds like a serious issue. I have not had this problem myself.
Ok first off, less spam and more patience. Your ticket and forum topic are in a queue, it will be dealt with eventually. You have several other character slots, play one of them until you get a response. I hope you provided a lot more information in your ticket than you did here, by the way, don’t post any info here, save that for your ticket. There are other people playing the game and they will get to you in order not when you constantly spam forum posts.
Soooooo about those early game characters… where did they go….?
The same place the rest of the story went, absolutely nowhere, Trahearne took over. Nothing is done with them after they are finished with their dialogue.
I have had PS quests that I have fallen alseep through, I have had the odd one need an extra player and then I have had some that border on sodomy (I hope i can use that word lol) but I will give examples.
Forging the Pact I believe has you rescue some miners with Trahearne – the initial fights can get difficult if you lure more than one group with T on his own being fairly useless. After the dull dialogue and you rescue the initial miners the battles get a little easier, after you rescue them all the battles are ridiculously easy, not to say I was not downed though. The boss has a lot of health but is overall not a problem in the least.
The battle of fort trinity – I had no problems with the risen, in fact I ignored a large part of them, when the risen shipped attacked I took my hand off the mouse to cough but the cutscene ended right there and before I had a chance to move the initial landing of the risen hit my character and I was downed from the blast, not the actual enemies. I was downed from full health, a millisecond after a cutscene, that’s just bad placement. I managed to use bandage and get back, then I practically walked back through the foes thanks to the NPCs and finished the quest without a hitch.
One of my order quests I was to take on centaurs, another I was to take on destroyers. Both times I was alone and overpowered by the enemies constantly, I had to go level to get better gear and bring other players in with me.
I have also seen people complaining about other stories at lower levels, I agree that some are too hard, I also find that some arekitten easy but my opinion is that they don’t need to be nerfed, they need rebalancing. Perhaps lower the amount of mobs in certain quests or rewrite some to make them more involving.
The problem that the majority of people have with Trahearne is him hi-jacking the story but honestly I don’t think everyone realises that they don’t hate him because of that, they hate him because he does it so incredibly bad. Ok so the stories had to converge by Fort Trinity, I get that, I’ll buy that. Your choice is renamed “your order” too, minor twitch for most people but it would be nice if the stories reflected your choice or even acknowledged it. Could they not make your order have the most amount of NPCs available during battles so you could see like you made a difference?
You get all these choices and it is fun, you feel like you are working towards something but once you move on to the next tier your buddy characters are forgotten about the moment they have no dialogue left for them. You soon become the buddy of the chosen hero and you are then kicked to the side.
He ruins the story but because he takes over though, it is because it is done so bad that an amateur writer could have done it. Previous characters are introduced slowly, with details so they are believable. I personally enjoy the Destinys Edge story, the book gave them back story and introduced you to them correctly. I of course did not expect them to be as whiny as they are in the game but I can forgive that as you don’t want them being so helpful that they are joined back up by level 30 while you twiddle your thumbs. These characters were done well, people still hate some of them, but you can’t argue that they are not developed. Trahearne on the other hand just appears and takes over and as I have stated, this would not be so bad had it been done right.
It would be nice to see more of my order showing up past claw island, it would be nice to get a letter or two from Dinky or whoever my buddy is during the game. Logan, Rytlock, etc. send you mail which keeps you involved in the story at least.
Yes, the rare time you need a specific personality to answer something and it does nothing. Could they not make it that passing the speech check ends with additional help or perhaps a different route through the quest? I don’t expect them to change everything but they need to rewrite a lot of dialogue and show a reason for choosing one of the three identical “personalities” that are offered to you, as of right now there is no reason to choose any of them over one of the others.
Glint the dragon just PMed me, she said the minister dude from elona was actually an adopted krytan. (problem solved)
Ha ha, sorry was writing it up at lunch in word, did a copy and paste but the paragraphs must not have carried, will fix that now.
Honestly I am fine with the stories converging, they needed to for the sake of an ending. It would be too costly to make things continually branching out, my problem and point I hope I made was the fact that it is extremely badly written for the last 30-40 levels so that means almost 50% of your levelling is done in a mediocre setting :/
In Guild Wars 1 your stories may have been cheesy butkittenwere they good. Every single little quest was interesting enough to play and the lore was enough to drive you forward before the quest began. To reference my above piece on Trahearne, let us look at Rurik. Cheesy, overshadowing and a horrible NPC to quest with, he was not called Captain Suicide for nothing. Now, ask the player base who they prefer. Rurik was known to the character almost as soon as the game started, his story was interesting and you didn’t feel like you were a backseat player. He was done right and his dialogue written correctly.
Let us look at Kormir, she is introduced as someone important, is with you from the start and even takes all of the credit for your work but at least the rest of the world still acknowledges you and while both Kormir and Rurik were hated by a few people they are both far superior to Trahearne due to good writing and a correct sense of uniqueness. Good writing is the key to the personal stories, without it, it feels as if they drag and you are only there to go through the motions and that is the way the personal stories have ended up.
They are motion, not emotion.
In closing I would ask that you return the option to vote on quests like you had in the Beta, the earlier portions of the game were available in betas and they feel the most polished while end game story areas were untested by players and are a bitter disappointment in the value of dialogue.

WARNING: The following topic contains a lot of spoilers, I won’t hide them all so this is the forewarning.
I’m sorry Anet but what happened? While the personal stories start off by throwing you in at the deep end you soon gather yourself up and get involved. Your chosen race of hero starts to befriend you and you feel like you are a part of something growing. Then the orders come into play and you excite us with the possibility of learning of the orders and their secrets, finally letting us join one and pleasing us immensely. Then, the inevitable. You get introduced to your buddy fairly soon and your initial friend is soon forgotten about, never to be heard of again. While I can forgive the fact that your buddy gets overly friendly with you from the get-go, I believe Seiran was a PG rating from humping my virtual leg.
The first step in your destruction of the personal story is the speed of your advancement. I met my buddy, helped the skritt for a quest or two and then was promoted to the highest rank of the order? Surely the quests helping the skritt could be considered only 1 mission by the order, I must have done a real good job, is the rest of the order that useless then? (this is my main peeve with the personal story in my opinion, the advancement needs more hoops)
What next? Claw Island and dragons, while the set up to this area is done nicely, that is the final improvement on the story, it’s all downhill from there. The first steps on to the islands is perhaps the worst writing i have seen since Twilight and that was written by a 12 year old; at least in your writing the spelling and grammatical errors are minimal. The NPC’s are completely incompetent based on their responses considering the “kind of” important job they have. I know if random people managed to make it on to my island fortress without first knocking on the door or going through a minister for permission first I would be wary, no matter how much I recognise them. Also if someone mentioned a dragon on the way I would be a bit more believing considering I already know them enough to let them walk about my fortress by free reign. The charr leader was ridiculous, he refused to trust that an attack was happening and stands by the entrance the whole time and at the end of the quest his dialogue states “We did all we could.” Completely ludicrous! The mission ends with you buddy being removed from the game, I would have liked to see them become a mini-boss fight before fighting the dragon or perhaps a cutscene where you find their mangled corpse hanging above the gate when you come back to the island.
The future quests I did enjoy as it felt like you were really preparing for war and felt like you were doing something rather than running around with skritt for no apparent reason. The reason this does not save your PS though is due to the difficulty of the missions as you are on your own, I won’t get into that here, and the fact that Trahearne becomes more of a focus than the dragons. While the writing has gotten better this is largely not noticed due to those two factors. Don’t get me wrong, I have seen my fair share of random characters added to a story and taking all the credit before but those characters tended to have unique characteristics. I find absolutely nothing defining about the character, also the only mention of him before Claw Island is available to sylvari characters – could he not have been introduced once or twice from meeting with other high-ranking officials or even references made to him during the storyline? The writing is there to make him great but it has been executed badly. The dream Arah was great but hampered by the difficulty, Syska the Mesmer was a beautiful piece and was of the calibre I expected the whole way through but Trahearne just seems to put off everything you do as trivial compared to what is expected of him and the dragons.
I have read my fair share of fantasy books to know a character that should be killed off within the first 3-4 chapters. I have also played enough games, MMOs and others, to know when a character is presented badly. I personally bring it all down to your dialogue, my suggestion would be to hire writers and re-write from Claw Island onwards, what about R.A. Salvatore? He has been writing fantasy for years and knows how to write a storyline with characters that have feelings. I read that you had different writers on different areas, the writing about Divinitys Edge was written correctly even if players don’t like the characters because they had their own image of them from reading the books – it’s hard to fulfil the imagination of every player. We have background and growth in those characters, Trahearne is really just a kick in the teeth as he is nowhere near as interesting as the DE members, perhaps people were imagining fighting Zhaitan with Logan by their side?
(edited by Turial.1293)
Correct me if I am wrong but is there ANY noticeable difference between your dialogue choices here? My human who is charming sounds as devoted as my sylvari noble and the same goes for my “ferocious” charr who sounds more positive than a PR agent. I would have assumed some difference at least, they do not really feel different at all. You could trade the dialogue of each of them and it would still sound the exact same. I will give an example below;
current dialogue option:
NPC: The Risen are coming! Defend yourselves!
Charm: We can take them!
Nobility: We can take them!
Ferocity: We can take them!
my suggestion:
NPC: The Risen are coming! Defend yourselves!
Charm: Relax, they fight as well as they look.
Nobility: Let hope never falter, charge!
Ferocity: Let them come, I need to pound something!
As you can see, although cheesy, the responses are more believable and not interchangeable like the current ones. While they are not word for word the same in game, they all give the same response with no personality.
It is a bit ridiculous that some of the accept/decline options are in the same place for almost everything except discarding items so if you are just going through the motions then you lose your items because you hit discard after assuming that it is the accept choice. Consistency would be nice as I don’t like losing items after I 100% an area due to this.
“Last Online x hours ago” would be helpful for both friends list and guild panel.
Well as Curuniel mentioned the other lands were cut off about 50 years ago. Let’s just use our heads here and think, to be a minister or whatever title they have, they would need to be at least 20 or even 30 years old, tag on those 50 years later and you are looking at someone who is 70-80 holding together a district, most likely they were replaced. What about their son/daughter? Just to anticipate that question, if the former minister was 20-30 then the child will have only been born so they “might” have the skin difference of their respective human parents but their personality would be one of Kryta. Any children there before the 50 year cut off would also grow up adopting this culture and not acknowledging their own if at all.

You seem to be missing your post. If you clicked discard then your items are gone, long story short. It is a bit ridiculous that all the accept/decline options are in the same place for almost everything except discarding items so if you are just going through the motions then you lose your items.
From what I have noticed, sound effects and dialogue seems to go “missing” when too much is happening at once. Now I will put it down to my processor and motherboard which are the only pieces of hardware which I didn’t upgrade brand new specifically for gw2. Sometimes I find that there is no fighting sound effects if I have not been in a battle for a few seconds after being afk for a while, this happens with dialogue going missing after a large battle, it sometimes can take several minutes to “load” the story dialogue and even then it might skip the first line or two. I don’t really have a problem with it but i believe this could be the cause of skipped dialogue, I don’t actually believe that it is missing, it’s just getting lost with so much going on. I did a story dungeon, the manor, and the whole speech at the start lagged so much that i could see the rest of the team fighting enemies but i was still frozen, waiting for the video to load for me; I did a run a day or two later and didn’t have this problem at all, another reason I don’t think dialogue is missing.
Hi lechiffre, you hit all the nails on the head there. Whispers of Acoma is a no nonsense guild, our requirements are mature, friendly and helpful. We have Teamspeak and forums available for members and are here to play and enjoy the game, not to rush to 80 and be bored by xmas. We also understand not being able to play all the time, some of us have kids, a job, studies or an angry wife so there may be days when some people can’t get online. We play as much as we can and so have no time for drama, we like to laugh and joke online but are serious at times too, e.g. focusing on a dungeon run. I, myself, am Irish so you can almost guarantee I will be on at the same time as you every day. If I am missing anything just leave me a PM here or in game, WoA would be happy to have you, server and forum info is in my signature.
PS: If it tips it in our favor, I already have “Indiscriminate Slayer” at max

Hey there Evolutionxander
I am from Whispers of Acoma, a guild that should fill your needs. We have 30+ members at the moment and don’t consider ourselves elitest or hardcore, we like to focus on friendly, mature gaming and being as helpful as possible to members. We have a Teamspeak server and forums http://whispersofacoma.guildlaunch.com, we try to set up an event every evening and more often than not the event will revolve around the current members online, it could be PvP, WvW, dungeons or helping current members with any trouble they are having in PvE. Finally we are 18+ but don’t deny members if we feel they are mature enough to join, check us out or send a PM here or in game and we can chat on TS. Hopefully we will all hit it off
There are no tanks in guild wars 2, you need to learn to dodge, stay out of enemy fire, etc. the gameplay is far different than run in and do damage, you need to play it smart.
Please look up to the top left corner of this website….. and then never ask this question again blinks
You get a few slot so nothing to stop you making both. Make an Asura warrior and make it especially because it doesn’t fit. this is a different game, play it differently. And for the record I like my walking plants :P
