I throw the red flag on this post — it seems more like market manipulation to me. Yesterday the normal coffers were selling for 8sp on the TP. There’s really no reason for them to be that high.

There are no tickets in the normal coffers. Our guild has opened a few thousand now with no tickets. In addition the wiki shows no data that a ticket can be obtained.

This is inaccurate. I got a ticket from the normal coffers. People have reportedly even found wings in them.

Treb on the supply depot in Briar can’t reach Vista trebs, no way to counter it, except trebs in openfield or suicide ele with meteor shower. Only 2 “showers” need to destroy these trebs btw due to hitbox bug.

Sure you can. The trick is to not worry about a direct hit, because it’s possible that the line your aimed in will be above or below with a single power tick. Aim instead for the ruins themselves that they build on. You have a lot of play then to turn and find the sweet spot where splash will to the work for you.

C’mon all, it’s pretty simple. You have a mini-pet (helmed moa racer) that’s effectively being sold for in game gold, and that value has a luck factor tied to it. If you’re doing it to make gold, well, you’re not going to. If you’re doing it for the mini-pet then you’re doing it right.

I’m confused, how will GW2 have Raids without a trinity? not saying i want a trinity but wont they just be larger dungeons with bigger hit points and more players all zerging the crap out of stuff, as everyones just DPS anyway, sounds like WvW for PvE..

Before raids this game needs mechanics overhauls..

They said “something unique to GW2”. This strongly implies that it won’t simply be a dungeon with more people. I could try and guess, but I’m pretty certain I’d be wrong.

OK, so the second one pretty much confirms that they’re working on something. It won’t apparently (going into guess mode now) be like raiding from the more archaic MMOs, something unique to GW2… this intrigues me. Large party dungeons, like from GW1? Open world events of a massive scale?

The only thing I know for sure is whatever we guess at we’ll likely be wrong. Interest is piqued however…

What skills do you miss the original?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

VOLKON.1290

What skills do you miss the original released version of (in GW2, not GW1 versions)?

I was thinking about this… being primarily a mesmer, I miss the original version of Portal. Anyone remember that? You didn’t have to hit “F” to use it, as soon as it was active if you ran into it it ported you to the exit. Not just to the exit, but right past it so you weren’t standing on the exit. Now THAT was a fun iteration of portal. You could chain a couple together such that exiting one put you on the entrance of the second and off you went! Ah, to have that version back would be nice. (To see portal working this way, look at the ANet video for the portal skill released when mesmer was first introduced.)

People were using the original version of portals to troll. I remember in one of the betas, several Mesmers were using portal to stop people from going through the Hoelbrak portal to wayfarers. They put portals in front of the Hoelbrak portal so people were ported away when they tried to go through. They were also porting people who were af’k to different places. The old system would allow you to port an af’k player from a safe spot to next to a mob so he could be killed. It was because of this sort of thing that the Mesmer portal was changed.

OK, now that’s a shame. Maybe only in WvW… hmm…

More updates than MMOs with Subs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: VOLKON.1290

VOLKON.1290

We’ve been playing around so far this year with a lot of different concepts to see what works for a living world game, and see what players liked and didn’t like. Based on all of your feedback, you’ll be seeing a greater degree of permanent content built into future living world releases in 2013. And of course, some things you’ve seen before may return again, in its current form but updated like SAB or holiday festivals, or in a new form entirely….

So to put this in another way, basically you were playing around with our gaming experience and now you’re saying that you’re planning to put in more permanent content now that you’ve pretty much arrived at what you think the game should be.

In other words, the whole of past year has been one big open beta, except there is no server-reset at the end of it all. In other words, no matter how beautiful the game was when it came out, it wasn’t finished to begin with because you haven’y made up your mind yet about what to put in permanently.

In other words, we are all guinea pigs to you.

I think you’re missing the point.

They’re not experimenting on us. They’re experimenting with us.

Just got to 80.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: VOLKON.1290

VOLKON.1290

I tried WvW once, but what I saw was mostly just a big mash of people outdoing my smaller team, or is there more to it?

I am really clueless on the that part. :P

The normal 5v5s etc just make me facepalm as if there’s one or two people on your team that don’t know the objective, you’re screwed.

WoW has corrupted me, I feel as if I can’t have the same Raid System as they used to have – I feel little joy in gearing up, not the same “I want to get up there”-feeling, hence the “Meh” feeling I got now. Don’t know how to be cured of the WoW-Corruption.

Not quite sure how to properly explain it, to be honest.

Also, don’t get me wrong – I really really enjoyed leveling, but I want to FEEL like I want to stick with one character, not just make an alt because I felt like the journey ended at 80. (Read above about the gearing).

Hey, first of all, grats on 80!

What server are you on? If you’re interested in WvW, sign on with a WvW guild and get a taste for organized chaos. You’ll love it.

Of course, right now Southsun is having the new content going on, it’s worth a look and with the magic find bonus there you can get exotic drops.

Fractals are indeed a lot of fun.

Basically… nothing has been closed down to you now that you’re at 80. This isn’t a gear treadmill game that obsoletes content as you out-level it. Just kick up your feet, crack open a cold one and think about what sounds like fun. Seeing every jumping puzzle in the game? Mass chaotic PvP in WvW? Slay a dragon or three? The question is, what do you feel like doing today? Some casual farming maybe? Orr really is not that bad. Well, I’m not saying I’d like to build a summer home here, but the trees are actually quite lovely.

Mesmer Temporal curtain not stacking

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: VOLKON.1290

VOLKON.1290

Hi!

The topic almost says it all. The Mesmer spell – Temporal curtain (Focus offhand, skill #4) does not stack (in duration, or in any other way) with any other swiftnesses.

I can see how this could be intentional, so you cant walk trough your own spell multiple times to gain a lot of swiftness. but it is still a bit annoying when you are trying to run in a group as fast as you can (like in WvW commando raids), and your spell just goes to waste.

If it is intended – so be it. If it is a bug, I would love to see a fix.

Funny, I came here to report this exact thing just now. If you’ve the speed boost form TC, nothing at all can stack with it. It ignores any and all other speed boosts, even those from other TCs.

Auto-attack cancelled on dodge [merged]

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: VOLKON.1290

VOLKON.1290

Same thing with my mesmer.

Not sure what you are trying to get at here. All skills with an activation will cancel when you dodge roll.

He means autoattack. Before patch, if you were autoattacking with #1, then dodge rolled, the autoattack would continue after the dodge.

Still working here.

Tested with longbow and Sword.
Longbow tested in open field.

Sword tested in open field versus mobile(dolyak) and mostly immobile target(wurm) and with back to a wall.
Against a mobile target it stops auto attacking until the target back in range either because it walked towards me or I walked towards it.
Against an immobile target it stop auto attacking because I am now out of range but this has always been how it behaved. If I walk back into range it will resume the auto attack.
With back to a wall I stay in range so it just keeps attacking as expected.

None of that seems to be a change from the usual.

That’s odd. My mesmer stops autoattacking every time I dodge roll, even if I’m in range the whole time.

Same here, quite noticeable on mesmer GS1.

Why there should be a dps meter

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: VOLKON.1290

VOLKON.1290

Yeah, that’s great and all. But it is very much so in PvE. There are no encounters that even encourage players to going support. The way that they currently have things set up, there isn’t a point in going anything but DPS. Which is why I said exactly what I said.

It doesn’t matter if players have encouragement to go support or not- some don’t have a choice. Take Engineer. Besides grenades, they don’t even have a second pure DPS build. That means every engineer forever would always need to go grenade, or get heckled out of dungeons by noobs who think everything comes down to how big of a number is on the DPS meter.

Not sure I’d enjoy that, myself.

A few of my favorite utilities I bring on my mesmer are Null Field, Feedback and Arcane Thievery. The first two are obviously support, but the fields they put up can be used for added effects as well. The benefits they provide to a party can’t be measured by a dps meter yet they’re far more valuable than a pure dps flavored utility (if they exist). Conditions I remove from allies or damage reflected back to the source that never hits allies… that increases ally output by reducing the time they need to spend curing their own conditions or healing (or avoiding) damage.

#TeamJadeQuarry

damage output TOO HIGH!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: VOLKON.1290

VOLKON.1290

Use your defensive abilities! A well placed wall of reflection, feedback, daggerstorm, whirling defence or magnetic aura will destroy a whole group of Karkas on its own. Endure Pain, Shield stance, smoke screen, swirling winds, obsidian flesh or what ever lets you survive the initial burst and cc abilities will prevent the karka overrun!

I can also second this… Feedback does amazing things against any ranged mob. Cycle your immunities and really lay on the hurt and it’s not too hard.

If you’re a mesmer, don’t forget Mirror as your heal as well. You can use it offensively quite nicely. In addition, you can trait such that distortion also reflects. Main hand sword #2 ftw.

damage output TOO HIGH!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: VOLKON.1290

VOLKON.1290

Sovta, remark’s such as these, unless funny, are not very productive. Anything constructive to add? What’s wrong with holding hands and singing btw?

Volkon, with the countless amount of hours in WvW that I have, you’d think I don’t have high armor? My builds are mostly bunker/support with 3k armor. I’m well aware of how to dodge too. With that I say, the damage output is too F’n high!!!

That’s nice. I also spend an extensive amount of time in WvW. Maybe too much. Damage seems fine to me, and I’m not even in full PVT gear. Damage avoidance and redirection work wonders for me. We’re not intended, no matter how you slice it, to stand there and absorb large amounts of damage. No, you’re not intended to be a tank, even in a bunker build. I run on a mesmer mostly. I dodge, I put out clones and phantasms to absorb and deliver damage. I have blocks, interrupts and terrain at my disposal. I’ll put up boons, or take the enemy’s boons and give them my conditions, or flat out remove any conditions that show up. I’m in cloth, about 2490 armor, 18.5K health or so (iirc), etc.

Damage is fine, because I choose to not get hit by as much of it as I can.

damage output TOO HIGH!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: VOLKON.1290

VOLKON.1290

As the title say’s, I think the damage output is getting TOO HIGH! On what, well, many things actually. I think this is a systemic problem of being instagibbed in this game. Fights should last longer, not shorter.

Now, they raised the damage output of the “Crazed” creatures in Southsun. Being 1 or 2 shotted isn’t fun at all. Not too mention costly.

Dev’s…. lower the damage to defense ratio. You are out of control!

Put on some PVT gear. Dodge. Don’t stand in the red circles. Use your defensive abilities.

Why no /inspect ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: VOLKON.1290

VOLKON.1290

How do you consider /inspect intrusive? Every game i’ve played that had /inspect, i honestly couldn’t tell you how many times i’ve been inspected. It could’ve been zero times or it could’ve a thousand times. I will never know because it has never intruded on my personal being.

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it does it make a sound?

Yes – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound

The tree falling causes the oscillation of pressure through the air, just because no one is there doesn’t mean this didn’t happen.

So how is it intrusive, that person still looked at your character without your permission. Just because you don’t know it happened doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. What your arguing is whether or not someone was inconvenienced by it, which they may or may not end up being.

Seems much less inconvenient then being asked to ping your gear. What bothers you about people seeing your gear? If someone looks at your gear, without you knowing, and doesn’t do anything as a result, what’s the issue? I wont accept oscillating air pressure as an answer, unfortunately.

I mean, they can already get an idea of what you’re wearing just by looking at you. Maybe you should suggest an image blur so people can’t see what your character looks like, since you’ll just look like low-rez pixels.

Hmm… bet’cha can’t, thanks to the liberal use of T-stones.

An /inspect would be a bad addition to GW2. If you give someone a tool to make an idiot of themselves with, rest assured, they will.

Why there should be a dps meter

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: VOLKON.1290

VOLKON.1290

DPS meter in WvW could show overall dmg, which would be cool to know. A lot of variables to weigh, but it would be cool to know, anyway. Also, you can still determine the DPS of certain rotations (most applicable to 1v1s or PvDoors)

Rotations? What rotations? Skills have far too much of a situational element for any generic rotation to do anything more than ultimately kitten you overall. People still seem to have trouble realizing that damage/control/support isn’t tied to your character, it’s tied to your skills. Most skills have two or three of these attributes tied to them. While you could cast them on cool down they’re far more effective when used at better times, not sooner times.

Then let’s consider other factors. Say I drop a null field which gets stomped so now everyone in the area has chaos armor. How much damage do I get credit for from the confusion stacks caused by this to the enemies? How do you credit any condition damage at all, be it direct or indirect? Say Joe Necro applies a poison to my mesmer who in turn decides that that is rather rude so he gives the poison back to the necro. Who get’s credit for what?

This game is not built, no matter how you slice it, in a way that a raw damage or dps number can reflect actual combat. You can’t sit in a rotation and optimally fire away. You could be “perfect”, yet blocks, dodges etc. all skew the numbers. A dps meter simply does not make sense in GW2.

I will have you know my Ele has a refined and distinct rotation i use to stack might. Although, it could change if i knew how much DPS i was getting from it.

DPS meters were never intended to reflect “actual combat.” It’s just refined data that can be extrapolated to represent certain areas of combat. Not everything is about straight DPS, so if you rely solely on DPS meters as a basis of performance you are not using the tool or assessing performance properly.

On my hunter in WoW, the dps meter pretty much did show actual combat. Plant the hunter, start rotation. Stare at the pretty numbers until some audible warning triggered a muscle memory reflex to move in a certain direction or to a certain spot. Restart rotation as fast as possible. That was it. The dps meter showed how well you followed the script in combat as well as if you were using the “right” rotation and the “right” gear.

Now, you have what you call a rotation to stack might. You say that might change if you knew how much dps you were getting from it? Yet your numbers would be completely thrown off my effective dodging, blocking, range control, any of that. You fire attacks at me… oops, that’s a clone. Sorry, you did no damage to me. DPS meter is useless.
