Nobody ever claimed that it has you are going to deal more damage than with Berserker’s gear by using Celestial, nor that it’s going to take over it’s role in PvE, which would be outrageous, as I already mentioned.
The thing is, that the even higher Critical damage in combination with the diminishing returns of Precision, which is kind of useless (less useful than increasing something else) to increase after a certain point, make you sacrifice much less offensive power than you would have to for that amount of survivability and Magic Find otherwise.
You don’t have to do any kind of math or calculation to see that this gear is better than the previously existing Magic Find armors and it’s just weird, that everything is 5/8 of a usual secondary attribute, but Magic Find (which is equal to the usual amount, which you would have to sacrifice a secondary attribute for otherwise) and Critical Damage, which is even higher than in Berserker’s gear.
… and take a look at Cavalier’s gear for example: Toughness, Power, Critical Damage. The Celestial has more Critical Damage. Instead of 101 Toughness on a chest piece for example, you get 45 Toughness, 45 Vitality and 45 Healing Power = 135 defensive stats, which synergize very well with each other. Instead of 75 Power you get only 45, but 45 Precision, which makes the Critical Damage much more valuable, and 45 Condition Damage (which can be kind of useless, but most builds apply conditions anyway, whether they are focused on condition damage or not). It’s up to you if you prefer the Celestial over the Cavalier’s gear, but the fact that the Celestial has also maximum Magic Find, in addition to it’s already at least equal stats, makes this armor imbalanced for me.
You’re still hung up on pre-calculation numbers without looking to see what they actually do or mean. For example, that extra 45 precision. The amount of precision required to increase the chance to critical hit by 1% is calculated by this formula: (0.0024 × Level^2) + (0.06 × Level) + 1. So at level 80, it takes 21 points to increase the chance to crit by 1%. You basically get a critical chance increase of 2%, and sacrifice the damage you’d do with those hits. It balances out. It’s really not a big deal.
So… Ronah… you and gravity have met I see.
You know… veteran or not, it’s good to have mobs capable of killing newer players in the low level zones. Best way to get the feel for a different combat system is to live and die in that combat system, with dying being a rather important part.
It’s aimed at all audiences. That doesn’t mean it has to be gritty and violent and bloody and I really don’t understand what’s the problem with it either. Just because it doesn’t suit your dark and maaaanly tastes doesn’t mean its ok for you to insult it either. Find a game that suits your tastes better or grow up.
Except it isn’t aimed at all audiences. It’s aimed at people who love particle affects and sparkly things
Shiny? Shiny!
How can I tell if you’re right or wrong when I have no idea what you’re trying to say?
Yeah, I’m unfortunately on the other end of the scale.
For me, the new content is unplayable. Not unenjoyable – literally unplayable. I can’t make any successful jumps at all, so I can’t get up to the airship and all that.
:(
Sounds like it may be a system issue on your end perhaps? How are other aspects of the game?
What’s interesting is how differently things seem to be on a person to person basis. I’ve had relatively few problems at all, and once I realized a second tap on the fire speed boost will stop your movement things got notably easier. I’ve been able to use the lightning one to stop on a dime and give you change… probably the most issues I’ve had have been the “1” jump… double tapping by accident seems to confuse it.
It’s also sad that my kids will never see Elvis in concert live. Such is the way of a living story though.
Heh, I’ll email the Universe developers and ask them to reinstate temporary content if you will!
Or at least see if you can procure a Tardis, then I’ll be good.
Im actually really dissapointed that every rank gets the same reward… i mean i get it thakittens just for fun but they just COMPLETELY annihilated the purpose of winning. winners should atleast get a little extra of something imo.
You don’t. The higher you place, the more quartz crystals you get. I was noticing this yesterday.
The charrs is called the Hero’s Canton
So can you only use it if your character is named Jayne?
I’ll be in my bunk.
It ruins the fun for some people because they think those 500 points are the reason why they can’t feel superior to those who have them.
I already said so, what about people who started playing GW2 recently and can never catch up in AP to you, or never get a Fused weapon?
People who have HoM points or GWAMM title are being rewarded for considerable effort in a game that is linked to this one. This was announced years ago, long before GW2 started. And unlike temporary content in this game anyone can still get achievements in GW1.
But i think some people will just not get it and scream “unfair” if it’s something they do not have but others do.
But hey, people can always go back and look at their WoW achievements which they did while others played GW1.
Not sure if you’re talking to me or not, but I’m not sure any of that is applicable to what I’ve been saying.
It’s not about ‘feeling superior’ – I’m just going to miss the friendly competition with a couple of guildmates.
I’m also not screaming about it… I believe I’ve just made a couple of level-headed posts pointing out that I’m a little sad a small source of friendly fun has been removed as it’s no longer close to a level playing field between us (us being people I actually know and joke with about achievement points).
I’m definitely not saying people shouldn’t be rewarded for their GW1 achievements. I’m sure they’re very difficult and everyone who has them should be very proud.
I agree with you that it’s bad that people who start now can’t get a whole load of past achievements, in the same way that it’s bad that people who’ve never played another game can’t get everything in this one.
It’s also sad that my kids will never see Elvis in concert live. Such is the way of a living story though.
Anyone know the full stat list for medium armor, complete with accessories? I’d like to know the real total for this set, not just the armor.
There aren’t any new accessories that I’m aware of, so use the old numbers for those.
(If there are… link please?)
From that dulfy page you linked
“A whole selection of Zenith weapon skins will be available, not just the five shown below. You can pick only one skin to unlock per achievement chest. "
I think the first thing I’m going to unlock is the pistol for my engineer. I like the flash when it fires, nice little fireball.
Here’s the skinny. Someone that put in the time and effort (and it is extensive) to get GWAMM in GW1 is basically being rewarded with enough achievement points for one reward chest. Believe me, they’ve earned it. It’s a nice gesture by ANet to we old GW junkies (don’t have GWAMM, got a bit past 30 done iirc…).
As far as those leader boards go… hell, I forgot they even existed.
I found a merchant selling Red Bean Cakes. I smiled.
This won’t end well.
If you want to convince people that it’s all that big of a deal (it likely isn’t), then provide some real numbers. How much of an increase in damage do you get, for example, when comparing the different sets? (There are formulae out there to use to calculate damage and all that.) For example, people raged for a bit about ascended items. Yet it turns out, berserker to berserker equivalent (including crit) to be about a 7% damage increase in a perfect mitigation-free situation without any dodging or other forms of avoidance. Reality-wise it’s dramatically less than that.
So, stats like +6% Critical Damage aren’t real numbers anymore? You don’t need to calculate anything to see that maximum Magic Find + 1 Secondary and +1 Primary attribute is considerably worse than maximum Magic Find, + 5/8 of the Secondary Attribute * 6 + the highest Critical Damage obtainable. This already makes is simply better than 3 previously existing prefixes.
Not without context, no. 6% of what? If damage overall is lowered due to less power, etc. then you have an additional 1% of a smaller number overall, meaning the total could very well be less. Here’s the skinny. Critical hits have a base damage multiplier of 150% to the base damage of the attack, right? Adding additional crit damage means, in this case, you’re going from 155% damage on a crit to 156% damage on a crit. However if the base damage is lower, you’re still looking at a lower overall value of damage after adding in the crit bonus.
Can someone post the exact stat numbers for every piece of celestial? I want to figure out the exact differences between it and other sets. Currently my ele has full berserkers. My base crit chance is 50% and crit damage is 110%. This is pretty (fun) overkill, but I’m just wondering if more survivability would be better, considering celestial has the same crit damage as berserkers and magic find (or so I’ve heard).
I think this is the list you’re looking for…
You can also use that candy to buy some of the new Sanctum chests or whatever they’re called.
Instead of an outnumbered buff at all they should have Asura posted at the exits to the spawn area that say “You really don’t want to go out there right now.”
So basically we have another set of armor that may or may not be more or less ideal for what you might or might not be doing at the current time or in the near future.
No, we have a new prefix that simply outshines previously existing ones, at least 3 of them completely and other ones in many situations as well, as I already mentioned.
It’s celestial. It’s supposed to be shiny.
(Sorry… could resist.)

I like it… it gives me a few moments to get warmed up to the commands before the real race begins. Helps me look slightly less foolish and uncoordinated.
You can use them once per day per box I recall reading. If it’s one you haven’t used, have you tried hitting it with a hammer?
If you’re level 80 you get a skill point for using it. Basically it’s a nice little rare tidbit for an alt or maybe one of those oh so hard to get skill points we all have hundreds of.
Doesn’t seem to work. Use the existing account-bound version and then hit “2” to pack it up again. Still account-bound.
Is the patch already live?
So now they’re selling level-up items on the Gem Store, behind some RNG… As much as it’s easy to level, that’s somewhat annoying.
It’s a chance drop from the Black Lion chests. People doubtfully will be buying keys specifically for that because, like you said, it’s easy enough to level already. However, if you do buy/have keys and manage to get one it’s a nice little treat for an alt, or a free skill point.
Siege blueprints are no longer account-bound and can now be mailed to other players and traded on the Trading Post. Players who already have any siege blueprints and want the tradable version can either obtain another or use the one they have and then use the “2” skill to pack it up again.
Sweet!
Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Elvis, Buddy Holly… man, I missed the 1950’s completely. The invention of the electric guitar (thanks Les!), Ed Sullivan… all parts of the living story that has been going on, and I missed it all. Now, I can hear tales about those days (my Dad is a true Elvis fanboy if ever there was one), even see clips from the past on YouTube or the like, but I can’t relive them. However, I do recall music doing some unique and temporary (fortunately in some cases) things in my life time. Yeah, I remember the Disco Duck. Men at Work when they were popular. Kurt Cobain before he downed himself. Plenty of musical memories of my own to take with me. Ah, but my kids… they missed the 1900s in their entirety! But they do have new content coming along now that their absorbing (and I often choose to skip)… Selene Gomez is it? All that Disney stuff… all parts of their living story that I can follow along with as well, plus I can introduce them to things of the past they may not experience first hand… but hey, my son and daughter both like AC/DC, so I’m not doing too badly.
So many complaints about what is being labelled as temporary content, so little recognition of the footprints it leaves behind that lead to future content and fun things to do. The story keeps rolling along. So enjoy tales of what you may have missed in the past. Enjoy your memories of what you’ve experienced and look forwards to what the present and live for what the future may bring. No MMO has tried something like this, not anywhere close to this degree, that I’m familiar with. Yeah, it’s possible or even likely you’ll miss something, but there’s always going to be something new coming soon. Enjoy the ride. And, in case you missed it…
For a Black Widow Spider, you just need to get a certain number of points in your HOM from GW1. Once you have the required number of points (I don’t remember what they are,) sign on to GW2, open your inventory, and double-click the special token that will warp you to the HOM. You can get a Black Widow there.
As for your other concern: WELCOME TO GW2!
I went into that a little bit and unfortunately I’m short on those points, which is a shame because I just wanted my black widow pet to come with me on the new adventures in Guild Wars 2. I’ll miss him.
Thank you for the warm welcome!
How many points do you need? Points you go into Guild Wars and get now still count, you can update your HoM even today.
You can get your Black Widow.
I don’t belive level cap will EVER be raised.
I can’t see a reason to ever raise it. I know it’s been mentioned as a possibility in the past, but levels in this game are so much more insignificant than older MMOs, so why bother? Levels are for training. Life begins at 80.
I will admit to having a main hand sword… but not for reasons you may think. Although I haven’t tried it since the Blurred Frenzy nerf, I was getting fairly good at catching trebuchet shots with it. I don’t know if that still works however, haven’t had the opportunity to test it.
From a defensively minded player I can see quite a few uses for these. I’ll definitely have to dump a few points in each line in time I think.
I’m well aware that the CD on ITV is the point of discussion; the point remains. A change in the ability brings with it a change in the player. TC is the setup to ITV; change the way you use TC for the setup and expect your foe to know how to counter. The curtain lasts for a long time and has a long range on the pull.
I’ll never get the Mesmer community. You want a CD so short it’s close to moot or you want it to be unblockable/unavoidable.
I’d guess that 90% of the Mesmers moaning about this are sword wielding shatter Mesmers who now need to work a little harder for their Illusionary leap->nuke.
There was no CD at all before. We could use the focus skill, our slot 4 on the left, as an actual weapon in limited circumstances. Now it’s become nearly impossible to use it as a weapon. If you’ll catch up on reality and stop letting your hatred of mesmers cloud your opinion you’ll realize that we’re not complaining about adding the CD, just adding one so long it renders ITV moot and impractical. Going from the original 0 CD to a 1/4 second CD would still give advanced warning for those who are aware yet wouldn’t break the skills usefulness in WvW.
Two weeks is fine for releasing the monthly content they’re releasing. Note what was said, four teams are involved, and they have a months worth of content to do, so four months to get it ready for the public. It’s been delivered already as month long content split in two releases, I expect that to continue, but I expect it to be even better now that the teams will have so much more time to work on their pieces.
As someone else mentioned, ITV is now completely useless for any chase. By the time you can trigger it your target is way out of range.
You have 900 range on TC.
So rather than simply reacting to a runner, pre-empt a runner and place a curtain in his path.
Also, you’re in the WvW forum, this is far from a 1v1 thing. TC is still immensely powerful in group play.
It’s not TC that’s at issue. It’s ITV and the delay in being able to fire it off. The telegraphing is far too extreme now. Once it drops it’s incredibly simple to time out a near second and dodge to avoid. Now, the second would be OK if ITV was unblockable/unavoidable if you’re in range… you’d have the second to get out of range if you chose to do so. But as it is anyone even remotely paying attention can avoid the ITV pull with ease. Going to a 1/4 second delay would be a nice balance… time to react if you’re alert yet fast enough to be effective.
Shout out to GODS and whoever from CD was on DBBL last night. Had me all over the place.
That was fun, they were hitting us (it seemed) at three our four places simultaneously for a few hours on end at least.
People actually care who they kill or were killed by? They’re just targets to me.
It’s actually fine like it is now. The problem is people getting around it by, as mentioned above, allowing an auto-attack skill (heal for example) to keep resetting the timer while they’re off to the beach or something. You need to allow people enough time to use the bathroom without panic-pooping. That could be harmful to people with bad hearts.
What are you talking about double click nonsense? That’s not the reason the delay was added. It was added to slightly nerf the skill, which was before a little too strong. Instant area pull to a desired direction on a relatively low cool down.
If that’s true, then the 1 second delay is a lot larger of a nerf than was likely intended. The skill wasn’t that powerful to begin with due to the fact that the lip of a wall, a pebble, anything would interrupt the pull… now people are easily dodging away before the second half can even fire off. A quarter second gives the alert time to react yet would leave the skill still useful in WvW.
I appreciate the delay between using Temporal Curtain and Into The Void, there have been many times where an accidental double hit canceled it way too early for me. However the 1 second delay now between them is painfully too long. Using ITV as a pull has been brutally nerfed. This delay would be much better served as a 1/4 second delay instead of the full second. Please, ANet, consider reducing the delay to 1/4 second, that’s more than enough time to prevent accidental cancellation.
Did anyone else notice how painfully long a one second wait can be when you expect instantaneous? Ouch.
You know what would be a gorgeous rapier skill? A feint, which interrupts your enemy’s actions by making them try to block, which is immediately followed with a disengage-thrust for a hit. (Not disengage as “leave combat”, but in the “changing your line” aspect.)
“About guild halls , they will be implemented when it comes into play … The housing ! They want these halls are more than meeting places and RolePlay offering various exciting services.”
Not housing from reading this mangled version, but guild halls. Still, guild halls would be quite nice, especially if they’re not simply empty shells we gather in.
Is it just me, or is it a bit premature to quit for a game that’s still in development and doesn’t even have a release date yet? (If I’m wrong on that, please correct, but I can’t find one…)
SOS little 5-6 man thief group[leet] running in our north camp at eb home this morning, props to you guys… You’re a tuff group to take on!
Sneak a stealth trap or two down and watch [leet] turn to [eek!].
Well, this needs to be tested, but I think we lost our last manual defense against trebuchets, even though it was quite difficult to pull off as it was.
Blurred Frenzy: This is now evasion instead of immunity. This means it will be affected by retaliation. Increased the cooldown to 12 seconds.
The cinematics team really knocked it out of the park. The June team took some chances with the noir feel, writing style, and design and art choices. Honestly, I wasn’t sure how it would be received. Glad that some folks are “getting” the concept, as it’s not as common in fantasy MMOs.
Don’t do that Mr. Stein. Don’t allow yourselves to get caught in the trap of GW2 being a “fantasy MMO”. Allow it to continue like it is… a collage of styles seamlessly blending together. Add a dash of fantasy here, a little sci-fi there, a sprinkle of steam punk on the side and you’ll keep having the recipe for success. I mean, c’mon man! We fight dragons with lasers! Keep experimenting, keep having fun.
Oh… more steam punk is good, btw.
Im a solo roamer. Its a common role in WvW. I have 8 classes. I need 125 laruels to fully gear one character for WvW, using rings from FotM. That’s 1000 laurels needed. The problem isn’t that it takes a week to get the laurels. The problem is, if you do every daily and every monthly in a month you get 40 Laurels. Its going to take me a minimum of 25 months to get all these for my classes. And they are talking about adding Ascended armor this year…
OK… see that part I bolded up top? That’s where you’re screwing up and getting it totally wrong. You don’t need ascended gear for WvW. That is the great lie being propagated here. Awhile back I ran the calculations going from berserker to berserker equivalent ascended, taking into account crit multipliers and all that, and the increase in a perfect world with no mitigation or avoidance came out to something like a 7% increase in the raw damage stat. Basically, it came out to notably less than the damage of a single hit. When you include dodging, blocks, mitigations, positioning and movement, etc. you’re talking a number so nominal that it’s going to be extremely rare for ascended gear to be the factor in a fight. Then consider the rarity of a pure 1 on 1 fight in WvW and you realize that the perceived necessity of ascended gear really is nothing more than an illusion.
You do not need ascended gear for WvW. If you think you do, odds are it’s not the gear that’s the problem.
He’s been mostly dead all day.
