For anyone that’s complaining about the increase in APs from GW1 contributions, answer me this.
How many APs did I receive and how did that affect you?
So, Fey… how exactly are people doing dailies negatively affecting your game play again?
Try reading all the above and trolling less? But basically why implement a rank system for something with daily and monthlies invloved?
You’ve missed the point.
How is this hurting you. It’s that simple.
It is not about how it hurts me. It has to do with the AP Rank system being flawed in my view.
Ah, ok. I understand, you’re expressing an opinion. If you would, however, take a moment and look at what you’re asking from the outside… you’re giving the appearance that you want to decide what people should do and accept as qualifying achievements and what shouldn’t qualify. Now, having admitted that this is based on your opinion, are you really surprised that people who don’t share your opinion are disagreeing with you?
Look, the leaderboards are cute. They’re like a baby quaggan eating his first piece of chocolate cake cute. However using those to attempt to dictate what other players can or cannot do regarding how they wish to play the game… I have issues with that. There isn’t a single person on these forums worthy of deciding how anyone else should play, and the fact that we have so many avenues to choose from strongly seems to indicate Anet just might agree with that.
I thought that they were Zephyrites, much to my surprise
They climbed aboard their starship and headed for the skies…

No, arrow carts are overpowered already. The landmines are a good idea though. Or maybe something like an EMP burst trap that disables all the golems in a certain radius leaving them stunned for an extended period of time.
Ooh, I like that. The “Extreme Mechano-magical Purge” mine that focuses on the energies binding golems together. It could work!
Of course not, don’t be ridiculous. If someone wants to farm achievement points until ANet needs to create a larger variable to store them so be it, someone else’s achievement points don’t affect my game whatsoever.
How can dailies possibly feel like a grind? They just happen! All by themselves! As long as your play experience involves leaving Lion’s Arch occasionally, you’ll get your required dailies.
Have you tried to get the WvW ones? They require you to actively try and find a place to complete them, and you generally need other players to help finish (except sentry, cause a single person can take it). This is even worse if you’re server is overall winning. Repairs done is probably the worse, cause it requires you to hope that the enemy attack something (while you’re playing that is). This is even worse if you’re server only focuses on your own BL and EB and doesn’t push into other BLs while you’re on.
I completed my entire daily in WvW last night by accident. Just normal play and it was completed in no time. So it varies, but the dailies are silly easy to complete.
Ascended gear says “Hi!”.
there are no ascendant weapons or armor in the game :P
Yet, but all the accessories together have a huge impact in your character’s stats. In order to get maxed gear, we need lots of grind…
Actually, no, they don’t. Not “huge” at least. Mathematically, the berserker to berserker equivalent gives you around a 7.5% increase in damage, including crit modifiers, in an ideal attack world with no mitigations or defenses being taken into consideration. Actually it’s much less than that. The numbers work out to be well less than the damage of a single hit anyhow.
It’s a good day to be a GW1 veteran. I just log in and get free things because Arenanet loves me and despises anyone who didn’t play GW1. Life’s good.
How could you possibly be reading in any level of despite here? Melodrama has a time and place.
If I choose to finish second and let someone else get the achievement when I could have taken first I still feel like I won, only better.
I do like the mines idea however. Of course, then the idea will be to send a solo golem first to pop the mines and have the rest follow after. But mines could be fun.
Some people have adapted to the rally system, others complain about it. There’s a reason our commanders are constantly reminding people to “double down” the enemy. You get them down, you finish them off. If they rally on a cricket they’re still weakened, finish the job and save the tears for something worthwhile. Like puppies and kittens hugging.
You know the game is doing things well when the best people can come up with to complain about is achievement points other players earned from the prequel.
So many words, so I’ll be brief.
Screw expansions.
Here’s the skinny. We know that there are now four teams working on Living Story content in four month cycles. That in itself is a lot. We also know that there are other teams working on the big, juicy stuff as well, things that take longer to refine and deliver. Things worthy of expansions. You all need to realize we’re getting the best of all worlds here… a constant influx of new content to do in between the big releases of major content. Look at games that rely on expansions. They toss you an expansion, you burn through it in a month and wait four or six months recycling the same old stuff waiting for the next release.
We’re getting a constant flow of new things to do while the “big” stuff is being developed. That works for me.
This almost didn’t make it into the game. The song, in particular, was a one of a few voiced-over lines that were recorded early on, before the map was fully designed. By the time I found out about it, Bloodtide Coast was already pretty far along. Needless to say, I felt it was a top-priority to get it in the game and in a place where you could definitely see it if you were paying attention. Henceforth, the friendly Penzan pirate faction was born and we designed a renown heart and a couple of events around it. Fortunately we even had a chance to have that actor come back in and deliver some additional lines to support the character.
Getting that stuff together was definitely some of the most fun I had working on the game. Devon gets a big shout out for his help there. He was building the Priory events around the same area. The tie-in with Penzan was an excellent feat of collaboration.
You know… surely the Pirates of Penzan must be getting bored after all this time. I’ll bet they wish their Story was a bit more Living (cough)…
Hey all, I just got a charged crystal from the home node. It’s true, they actually can be mined from them. I hadn’t even seen that that was possible and came here in a rather giddy mood to share.
Just mined it this morning (a couple minutes ago) and got 1 charged quartz crystal and 8 quartz crystals.
Yep… got a charged from it. Sweet.
“Help! I’m trapped in a kite fortune factory and can’t get out!”
When it’s ready.
Forgive that, but the latest heard was that it’ll be returning even bigger than before, with at least one new world added to it. The box is still there in Rata Sum, but the dude outside… he ain’t spillin’ no secrets.
I wouldn’t mind an unlimited mining pick with a different animation. Unfortunately I was foolish enough to not buy the mining pick the first time around and am suffering non-buyers remorse, I’d gobble up a new one however.
Huh… so it wasn’t just me then. Yeah, I noticed the quality was somewhat less than expected.
This would be a nice thing to be able to place in our home instance and see a decent sized hologram of the ship floating above it. Like a decoration, you know?
Since the changes in the update I have noticed it become more toxic than before. Players like the OP (assumption) really suck the community out of the events. Bad change imo.
Wow that’s really kind of mean to say. I don’t “suck the community” out of this game by being competitive, this is PVP, the game is made so that you beat other people in a race. Just because I don’t choose to cheat to help other people doesn’t make me a bad guy, and it’s the people like you who choose to harass me that caused me to post about this in the fist place.
There’s something to consider… you know that guy that stopped, and the guy that was in second who took first for the win and achievement?
You were losing to them regardless. Whatever place you were going to finish you still finished in.
This may come as a surprise, but GW2 isn’t a pure fantasy game. This opens the door for ANet to allow the creative juices to flow where they may, adding a little steam punk here, a sniff of sci-fi there, whatever bubbles up in their minds. I like it, it’s a welcome change from a pure this or that structure.
So, after many runs, I finally have a race where it all comes together and not only do I win, I win by a wide margin. Woo-hoo! Fast forwards through many middle-of-the-pack races and bang, another one comes together again. Approach the finish line well ahead of the second person and… stop. I chose to wait. The person in second came up, crossed the line for first, then I crossed. He got the achievement and thanked me. That felt like winning well enough for me.
Beat this, DB. The Golem God blesseth thee with holy flames.
You’re at about half our force from yesterday… keep building!
I find that the first 25-30 levels of a new class are fun and then it becomes fun again after level 80.
On a new class (as opposed to character) I like unlocking the weapon skills and figuring out what they do. But once they skills are unlocked, leveling is a drag.
At 80 I start running around WvW, dungeons, etc..
Just a hint for future alts… many of us have leveled at least one alt to 80 in WvW alone.
OK, first of all, please, STOP with the “Go Play GW1 and earn the points” line of counter. You know as well as I do that the amount of time that would take is huge, and that time is better spent in GW2. So knock it off, you look foolish.
OK. Let’s see… I think I wound up with 300AP from my time in GW1, which was a blast, lasted many years, and indeed I’m willing to thank ANet again for that little gift you’ve tossed out to those that have been loyal to ANet for almost a decade now. I didn’t push for GWAMM, but it’s still more than halfway to another reward chest and it’s appreciated. Those of you that didn’t play GW1 need to understand… this is a nice little token to those of us who have been supporting the company in some cases for nearly a decade. If you weren’t a part of it you wouldn’t understand, but believe me, it’s in no ways at all meant to be a slight to anyone that started this run with GW2. As a matter of fact, those of you that came into the game out of the gate just may be getting close to seeing some of those loyalty awards soon, as ANet (in Guild Wars, at least) likes to give characters gifts on their birthdays. Every year for your character in Guild Wars we’d get a present. Opening the present would most often gift us with a minipet, a transform tonic, things like that. Now, I’m not saying ANet will be doing birthday gifts in GW2, but I’d be surprised if they didn’t do something similar. It’s just who they are. They throw little thank yous to their loyal customers all the time, and this is one example of that.
You’re not being slighted for not being a part of the past. You will, however, be recognized as being part of the future. Like I said, it’s who they are.
The way I see it, games like WoW tend to make you wait until max level for the “fun” stuff. GW2 throws the fun at you right away and is working their tails off to keep it going. My mesmer has been level 80 for over half a year now and I’m still having a blast on him. Yes, the leveling experience is great, but the fun doesn’t stop at 80.
Best part is… I’ve never stopped to think that we need more levels now that I’ve been 80 for quite some time. It just doesn’t mean the same thing as a game like WoW. I’m not stuck at an end game raid waiting for an expansion for something new to do… every couple weeks something new comes flying at us.
Ces… here’s a hint… keep playing like you’re leveling. Or, like I did, forget about leveling and just play.
Just one hint. Do not choose the pistol. thats all…
My Norn engineer is dual wielding a pair of these pistols right now and wondering what you’re talking about…
0_o How?
I thought the max chests anyone could have right now is 2 (one tuesday, one yesterday), and only 1 produced a weapon skin.
The skin is infinite like the HoM skins so you get the pistol skin and apply it twice I would think
wait, by infinite you mean I can have the unlocked skin on multiple chars?? :O (I dont have HoM so idk what that means)
Yes, you unlock the skin for your entire account. Every character has the unlocked skin available.
- Anyone who doesn’t get it crafted will be subpar until they decide to release it again.
Correction. Anyone who doesn’t get it crafted will enjoy a clearly superior gear until they decide to release it again.
Corrected correction: Anyone who doesn’t get the recipes for this gear won’t have this gear available as an option if the Trading Post runs out of them (currently a little over a silver each) until they decide to release it again.
Um…… Pics show they are not account bound. But soulbound on use. Thus tradeable.
http://dulfy.net/2013/07/08/gw2-quartz-crystals-and-celestial-recipes-guide/Can somone who has actually crafted it confirm that it is not account bound. Or someone post a picture of one of the armor sets using the code.
If it does show account bound in game. It might be a bug.
What are you looking at? Every picture there has “Account Bound” right above “Soulbound on Use”.
They’re not losing their direction or purpose. They’re remembering that even though dragons are about life still goes on. People still need to trade and blow off steam. Holidays still happen. We know there are groups working on “bigger” things right now. But life still goes on, and not all of it is “epic” in scale.
Sitting in the Borderlands, maybe south of Quaggan Isle, somewhere central, imagine a hill. Not just any hill, but The Hill. You can’t build siege on this hill. There’s a shield around the hill, a bubble, so siege fire can’t get in. There’s nothing on the hill but a capture point at top and a spire. However, that capture point gives points somewhere between, say, a tower and a keep every tick. If you own the top of the hill, you get the points, and the spire shines a beacon of the color that owns the hill. If you claim the spire, you give the entire map a small bonus (less than controlling a structure, but map-wide). All you have to do to cap it is, like a sentry point, be the only ones in the circle. Kings of The Hill.
You get gold, laurel as a bonus..yes. Some of the boosts are nice. But a lot of this is crap to take up bank spaces and force me to spend gems on more space! There I said it! haha. JK
I have to admit… if they’d offer another bank tab or two I’d buy them. Skritt aren’t the only ones that like shinies.
Hi, Im trying to catch up. What is this celestial gear? Something pvp/wvw intended?
New crafted gear using quartz. It’s an “all stats” based gear. You can see them right here.
And are people whining that this new gear is some how needed to be effective in PVP or some other part of the game?
I’ve seen some strange arguments, like someone complaining that it was superior gear because it has slightly greater critical damage than berserker gear while ignoring things like math and the fact that reductions in other areas reduce damage. It’s great gear if you want a blend of damage and survivability, plus the added magic find may be a reflection on how ANet had mentioned changing the way MF would be distributed in the future.

fun times in TCBL tonight!
I heard there was 30+ golems in the rush. If so, please tell me there was video and post it!
There were fifty golems, 23 mesmers, and at least one person recording (though I don’t have any links, unfortunately).
That was fun. WvW Heavy Metal.
Just one hint. Do not choose the pistol. thats all…

Go to your achievements tab and you’ll see a window with things you’ve unlocked. You can take as many of the skins as you want now across your account. I got the original pistol skin from the selection, then in the achievements tab pulled out a second.
By the way, ANet… that’s brilliantly designed.
Just a quick question. Did they add the LFG tool yet, I just roaming around the net and saw that Anet was planning on adding it into the game?
Not yet, but with the new stuff flying out every couple weeks now I’m quite willing to be as patient as needed to let them get it to where they want it to be. It’s clear they’re busting their humps up there in Seattle for this game and I’m having a heck of a time going along for the ride.
Finished the achievement for the Quartz node last night, and did so by going after the kites in the jumping puzzles. Jumping puzzles I had no idea existed. At all. To be honest, I was blown away. What an absolute blast it was! You don’t even need to finish some of them to get to the kite, but I have to admit I’m tempted now to take some time in the future and try to visit all the known jumping puzzles.
You see what they’re doing? They’re getting people into the world to places they’ve never visited before. It was like playing new zones again for the first time. Definitely fun.
Just one hint. Do not choose the pistol. thats all…

I’m surprised to see in the pictures that it indeed appears to be account bound when crafted. Maybe if we’re really, really nice someone at ANet may consider changing that so that the industrious among us who wish to do so could try and turn a little profit?
Pwease?
Hey… is that a golem?
You complain about the stats but really care about the magic find, which you don’t actually care about because the gear’s better than pre-existing gear until you add the numbers and see that it’s give and take, but magic find.
Your argument has gone off in so many directions it sounds like the complaints are simply habitual now. No matter what set you compare it to you’ll be giving up points in areas to get points spread in other areas, plus you’ll have magic find which you don’t care about. The data, the actual numbers, are looking at your arguments with a very puzzled expression.
Why are you defensive about this Celestial gear? It has an usual primary attribute, it’s secondary attribute is already slightly better than usual, but then you get more attribute points as third, than other gear has combined. I don’t see how this could not be considered as imbalanced, regardless of whether you are using Magic Find currently or not.
If they want to change something about the way Magic Find works, sure, go ahead, but simply adding imbalanced gear to make people stop using the old one, which is now simply inferior and became a waste of money, still doesn’t seem to be a good way to realize that.
I’m not defensive about Celestial Gear.
I’m defensive about math.
You can put them in your PvP locker where they will become Account-bound. =)
Is that what happens in there? They become account bound?
Very nice indeed!
Not the actual achievements themselves, not the totals leader board, but a separate new achievement point leader board that resets every quarter giving a little tidbit as a prize or something.
For some reason there are a few people that seem to really care about how many points they have compared to someone else… this may help quiet down the few that were offended by ANet’s amazingly kind gesture to its old Guild Wars grey beards in the form of APs for GW achievements.
So… you’re hung up on the magic find alone then? 18% total MF across all six pieces which will take months to craft… that’s the issue?
Magic Find?
Well… ok then.
I don’t give a crap about magic find. I don’t give a crap about condition damage for example either. What grinds my gears is that they randomly add new gear, which is imbalanced and simply better than other, previously existing gear, which is basically like slapping everyone who invested in gear, which is now simply outshined by the new one, directly in the face. I don’t even own a set of magic find, but even as someone who is using a normal set of armor – now there is something equal, which has magic find in addition to that.

Complete, total indifference. I’d forgotten the leader boards even existed.
