I realize Anet must have done something to increase the cap or filtered it out or something, since the other week they all went from Full to Very High.
However, now they’re filling up again and I can’t get on the server my husband and Guild transferred to (which is Tarnished Coast). Neither can my sister-in-law.
Are these servers stuck at Full? Every time I look, it never moves from Full.
Any Tarnished Coast members know what times I should be aiming for to camp the World Select screen?
Server status is based on the number of accounts tied to a server, not the number of players actively online. Even if Tarnished Coast was completely empty of players it would still read full. Shame Arenanet chose to lie about their subscriber numbers like that. : /
Not sure if serious or trolling. anet doesn’t have subscribers, and the server status do base on number of players online.
One of the community managers admitted to it being based on number of accounts. Denying the truth won’t change it. It’s probably all Arenanet can do to prevent NCsoft from shutting the game down after it failed.
Show me a link until then you’re a troll.

Right there. Last post in the thread. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Arenanet is lieing to you, and the game is bleeding players at the throat. Arenanet needs to fix the wound somehow, and fix it fast, or this game will be shut down by February.

GW2 is pretty much a single player RPG with a multiplayer lobby. It’s not really an MMO, the devs even said so.
I still haven’t finished my story but I’m sure Guildies would help with Arah. I don’t know what it is about the dungeons in GW2 that makes me avoid them. In GW I used to love when the Zaishen boss was a dungeon one. Possibly it’s the billion hp’s and one hit kills thats putting me off. Thats cheap difficulty.
Let me spoil the ending for you. Zhaitan’s weakness is the “2” key on your keyboard.
Nice change, but no serious group will take an Engineer after the Wintersday patch so what’s the point?
GW2 doesn’t deserve any praise, let alone GOTY.
If this was Nov 14th or earlier I would argue vehemently with you over that…
It does deserve some praise though. Some parts of it have really become crappy since mid Nov, but the rest are still pretty good and worth playing with.
I voted for it, though I don’t expect it to win this time around.
Yes, some praise. Praise for the most developer lies. Praise for the worst class balance. Praise for the worst storyline since Mass Effect 3. Praise for the worst PVE content. Praise for the most bugged MMO released in years.
Guess you haven’t heard of SWTOR.
I agree that GW2 is no where near being GOTY, but the kitten you’re flinging is off-point, with half of it being opinion.
I have. I’ve played it. It’s terrible and eating glass is more fun than playing it, but GW2 is far worse.

Anybody know what the changes are about?
Probably more Engineer nerfs. After all we need to lose damage on our mainhand weapons because the sigils we can put in them provide too big an advantage.
It is NOT Jormag!
Jeesh…. Jormag would put up more of a fight!
Yeah, we’d have to spam the #3 button for twenty minutes to kill him instead of #2.
Decided to get a refund and go back to WoW. Never thought it would come to this, but honestly it’s better than the alternative of giving Arenanet my time and letting them keep my money. Any smart person would also drop this dyeing game.
Just did fotm 12 with 2 engies. Anyone who says any class is worthless has no idea how to play this game and should go back to WoW and should give up.
should go back to WoW
Opinion invalidated due to tired, canned zealot response.
They buffed rangers. We do far less damage now even with Grenades.
Pretty sure that never happened, and it’s just you inventing stuff to make a point.
Unfortunately for you, engis are awesome in PVE and in FOM. And it’s not because of their DPS.
I’m willing to bet you play a Warrior, Theif, or Mesmer.
I’m willing to bet you think only dps matters, in a game with no dps meters.
Still a worthless point. Every class has better support than an Engineer. We only shined because one of our support skills was bugged, and that got “fixed” in the patch too.
Pretty sure that never happened, and it’s just you inventing stuff to make a point.

Superior Sigil of Izzy was Killed in sPVP by a Grenade Engineer Once
Saw that in Lion’s Arch. Asked if they had one. Got this in response:
“not taking worthless classes. sorry”
See the problem with your so called class balance?
I’ll give you 3.
Flamethrower + Ice sigil for 1) Irony.
Bomb kit + Fire sigil for 2) Better Explosions.
And… a post confirming that kits will eventually scale with weapon-damage.
Step two is to get the weapon stats to apply to kits as well. We felt sigils was the more important first step because it creates build diversity. Flamethrower with sigil of air? Yes please.
What he doesn’t say is that nerfing Grenades is necessary for game-health between the engineer kits. Nades being higher DPS in all ranges is no fun for other engies.
So buff the other kits.
What about Engineers running Potions or Turrets?
So they need to nerf the ppl that play with the kit that has the highest damage & highest player skill requirement so the ones that run around with FT or EG will feel better.
Engineers are the least played profession and the majority of the ppl that do actually use them play with nades so its good for the games health to nerf them? You don’t make any sense!
I think you might actually work for ANET.
You can’t accept facts, so you call them an Arenanet shill? lol, ’dat denial.
You know this is the kit’s #1 skill, and not the whole kit right? Reading comprehension helps.
Lol it’s mentioned above that Jade Quarry is a popular server… that’s true because we’re second in WvW.
http://i48.tinypic.com/27yvdwg.jpg
That there is me soloing the Meta event in Caledon Forest on Jade Quarry, saddest part is people standing by the TA dungeon can see the event notification which just goes to show that with the new gear tier – there’s nobody doing old dungeons or low level PvE on my server.
And trust me, as that boss eats his minions I can say I was fighting it near on 15 mins and only one person walked up to help finish the fight in the last 3-4 minutes. There’s no one PvE here, high pop servers aren’t any better than the low pop ones. Good luck to you all looking for a PvE experience in this game =(
Tarnished Coast player here. The other day I decided to randomly check up on the Mount Maelstrom meta event. Turns out it was up. I put out a call into map chat with no response, so I decided to work on it solo. Ten minutes later sixty people were defending the objective and after another five minutes even more fought the Megadestroyer boss.
Moral of the story is anecdotal evidence isn’t worth jack.
People buy games in boxes still?
On a serious note I think it looks fine. Better than the usual assortment of floating heads, explosions, bad American artwork, solemnly posed soldiers with guns and other crap they slap on covers nowadays and call “box art.”
“How big can he be?”
Then Zhaitan rounded the corner.
Game completely dead, no one playing anymore. Cuz it’s Too crowded.
Ya see the kids listen to the rap music…
Indeed. It’s an interesting combination of paranoia, cynicism, and misanthropy that makes threads like this. You never see them on the WoW forums because WoW is secure in it’s (dwindling) popularity. But every MMO that’s not WoW have these “population numbers conspiracy” threads. It’s kind of sad really but it’s an interesting glimpse into the minds of gamers in large groups.
I would really like people not to derail my thread with this sort of stuff.
All I’m asking for is more guidance on what is the best time to check when I can switch to the server my friends are playing on.
Like I said, the two previous times I have seen the change have been around WvW reset times on the weekend. I would like more people to report when they have seen servers become non-full or when they have successfully changed to a full server.
It’s not derailing the thread to call these theories out on what they are: baseless accusations born of nothing but conjecture and hyperbole. You can’t silence people who disagree with you, especially those who argue from logic. Ultimately the burden of proof is on those who argue these conspiracy theories, and proof is something they sorely lack if they have any at all.
So we’ve got the Server Status Conspiracy, now the “I’m getting screwed out of Ascended Gear because I complained on the forums” Conspiracy. This community is setting new lows every day.
The short answer, OP, is that no there is no conspiracy against you. It’s just bad luck and Arenanet already said that they realize RNG was a bad system to use and they will be changing it.
It would be hard to have classic Wintersday considering Grenth and Dwayna have frakked off to who knows where for whatever reason.
It boils down to this.
If the MMO in question is WoW: “Server population is directly correlated to the number of people playing.”
If the MMO in question isn’t WoW: “Server population is a complex conspiracy to make us think people actually play when the game is really dyeing.”
It’s really nothing more than that.
Pretty much this.
Tinfoil hat brigade is around.

No. If anything every other zone should be buffed up to Orr’s level.

If it is any consolation I am on scale 22 and have accrued over1600 fractal tokens and not yet gotten a ring either. It is RNG with the Jade Maw.
We are exploring alternatives to the current system.
This. Is. Awesome!
NO ITS NOT. This shouldn’t have been like this in the first place!!!!! Proper QA would have shown that the RNG SUCKS! Not surprised after seeing the dungeons in this game especially CoF.
The fact you’re angry doesn’t change the fact that it’s a good thing they realize it was a bad idea and are changing it.
You know what… after re reading the entirety of the posts I realize that I was off base… I Thought from your last post that you were pushing for a group finder. I am against that… I apologize for how i came off there. I do agree that the leveling dungeon does cut off those who get into the game later. I dont think that the scaling would work due Agony… Maybe a rating system would work like it scales to the highest but takes the lowest in consideration.
like if one player has done to 12 and one is just starting, it could go to lvl 10 difficulty. But then would that person get their level to 10 or just leveled to 2? there is a lot to think about when scaling.
If they went to a more easy medium hard scaling…. that would just be the system they have in place now. I think it is harder to fix this than just one thing. Dunno… all i can say is… as it sits now… just get a good group of buds and bust through it. I dont think this is gonna be a simple fix. so that is the best thing you can do .
Once again sorry for my rantness… I just do not want a group finder implemented.
It’s cool, misreadings happen. Sorry for calling you a zealot at the time as well. Glad we can see eye to eye on it.
And yeah, no dungeon finder. If Arenanet can get off it’s kitten and fix this issue there’s no need for one anyway.
When SWTOR has a better system in place to help players get caught up in current endgame dungeon content then GW2, you know GW2 is in serious danger. Blaming this on the players and not the system that limits them arbitrarily only makes you look like a zealot.
Sorry bud but I played SWTOR since closed beta and this is not something that was implemented until it had been out a year. so as far as that is concerned…. GW2 has plenty of time. AND dungeons/operations in Swtor group finders are easy to make in Swtor, in GW2 not so much. first off you have the MMO trinity in Swtor, you don’t here, so the group composition would be a factor here.
I hear all these people complaining that they cant get a group, maybe… just maybe.. people don’t want to do what you want to. That is not GW2 fault! Get a guild… or get a group of friends. I found a group in my guild that we run one fractal/dungeon a night. Did we have to catch people up… yes… was it a big deal? no! because we enjoy playing together! Quit blaming this game for your lack of sociality! find groups of people that enjoy doing what you do and you will have no problem finding a group!
I am sorry but it IS your fault… no one to blame but yourself. Quit trying to single play an MMO… cause all you will do by your constant complaining is turn it more single player… get some in game friends man…. that or a guild. This is an MMO… don’t blame the devs for your inability to socialize. callin me a zealot… please.
It was unacceptable that it took that long in SWTOR, it’s just as unacceptable here. You’re also ignoring the basic fact: the group finder raids in SWTOR allow you to catch up to the current content level. Fractals, meanwhile, punish those who have missed out because it’s not about gear. It’s about a poorly implimented difficulty gating mechanic, one that’s totally unnecessary and goes against the design philosophies of dungeons in this game.
I love how zealots project about the people who call Arenanet out on their poor design choices. I am in a large guild, and I don’t try to play GW2 “single player.” Heaping unfounded accusations on people doesn’t change the flaws in this dungeon’s design. Period.
But in your delusional, self obsessed rant did you stop to think about people who maybe want to run this dungeon but don’t have the benefit of a large guild, or any guild for that matter. What about the ones that don’t have the time to run it regularly and every day are left further in the dust since the only thing stopping them is this arbitrary gating mechanic?
Try thinking about other people before you go sounding the Arenanet defense force’s alarms, zealot.

Anet already said they’re working on a solution for the Fractal leveling system. From what I heard it’s going to involve tiers of some sort but that could all be subject to change weeks down the development line. Going as far as to label it a ‘complete failure’ however is rather uncalled for, however. I’d imagine it’s coming in the December patch or prioritized for next year, but I’m not an insider.
As it stands this isn’t a problem that can wait much longer. The entire Lost Shore’s patch was below par even by F2P standards. The new zone is a complete waste of space since no one goes there. The class changes turned out to be more nerfs for everything but Warrior as usual. Only FotM is really enjoyable, but that’s quickly killed by the broken leveling system.
Arenanet really set a bad precedent for future content quality in November, and waiting until January or later to fix the only good thing from that godawful patch isn’t going to make potential players look favorably upon an already floundering game.
Fractals is not a fail.
If people aren’t willing to do lower level fractals with you thats because they are selfish. I’ve done plenty runs I don’t need to to help out guildies on lower levels or just because no one on my current level is available for a group, so I join a low level group. Call me crazy but I’ve also noticed drop rates suck kitten at higher levels, level 1-5 was the best drops I’ve ever got(forget about pink kitten).
In most cases failure in this game is by bad players that don’t listen and learn.
Well said Drew. +1

That’s nice of you to repeat what every other thread has said thus far.
Better to repeat it than let Anet grow more complacent than they already are.
It’s a simple truth: the current set up for Fractals of the Mists, it’s much touted and advertised “endlessly scaling difficulty” is a complete and total failure. Over time the community is becoming further and further divided by the broke, pointless “fractal levels” to the point where getting a group is becoming impossible even at high levels. This system needs to go and be replaced by something that works.
And before anyone says it:
- No, gw2lfg.com is not a viable answer to this problem. Third part websites should NEVER be required to circumvent poor design.
- This has nothing to do with casuals and hardcores. Skilled players are just as screwed by this system if they missed out on the early rush. No amount of skill will convince players to go back and get you to their level.
There’s two ways you can salvage this before the damage becomes permanent. Either make the dungeon go off a standard difficulty system (Easy/Normal/Hard/Nightmare), or make the dungeon scale to the highest available level.
Here’s how to properly use Healing Turret:
- Drop Turret
- Wait for split second Water field to spawn from turret activation
- Detonate Turret for AOE healing blast finisher
Doing this it makes Healing Turret our best heal, equal to Elixir H with Fast Acting Elixirs in terms of both cooldown and healing done and it has actual group utility from the AOE heal and regen it gives everyone. There’s really no excuse to use anything else.
Gaming History Background:
- SWG
- WoW
- Rift
- EVE
- SWTOR
- Planetside
- Guild Wars 1
- Numerous games of other genre’s, too many to list.
Do I hate GW2?
I don’t hate it. Do I believe it’s worth playing after the patch with it’s rock stupid “progression” system that alienates the player base in two different ways (Fractal levels and Ascended gear)? Do I believe the sudden abandonment of the max level zones for this one instance is healthy for the game’s future, a game based mainly on open world content?
The answer to both is a firm no.
tl;dr. ANet has not clarified that Ascended Gear is the final tier before Legendary tier, people are not guaranteed to get equipment plateau – This is essentially Gear Treadmill.
Except that they did clarify that they won’t, and it’s still not a gear treadmill. Lieing won’t change anything.
I’m not lying. There are nothing from ANet that says this is the last tier before Legendary. You owe me the burden of proof.
If you want to quote: “We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.” Don’t bother
“Don’t quote the very thing that invalidates my entire argument! It’s not fair!”
See, this is you right now. It’s not making you look right. It’s making you look unable to accept that you’re wrong.
Among the five stages of acceptance you are either in denial or bargain. Not sure which but amusing none the less.
(edited by Vasham.2408)
The three slots you can fill with the first two Ascended item types won’t invalidate the remaining eleven pieces of exotic armor you already have.
Or to rephrase this slightly: The three slots that you can fill with the first two Ascended item types will invalidate the three pieces of Exotic armour you already have.
Three pieces of equipment replaced =/= fourteen pieces. You fail logic and math forever I’m afraid.
It is a gear treadmill because many people spent the past 3 months gearing up to full Exotic believing that would be max stats…
The three slots you can fill with the first two Ascended item types won’t invalidate the remaining eleven pieces of exotic armor you already have.
There is in fact every reason to think they will….
[quotes description of various infusion types]I think there’s every reason to expect proliferation of new upgrades like these, which is fine. That doesn’t necessarily mean escalation: if new upgrades are kept situational and focused on a specific, different area of content (the way this set of upgrades is really useful only in the fractals), then you can add new mechanics and gear types til the cows come home without unbalancing the core game or obsoleting existing content.
If we have more and more gear slots that can fit infusions we will have more and more resistance to agony, meaning they will have to increase the effects of agony in new dungeons for it to be relevant.
If new dungeons are introduced that have a different type of debuff that we then need to get a new resistance to, what would stop us from fitting the new infusions into our old infusion slots? also that would make the old dungeons obsolete?
No matter what it sounds pretty messy to me.
Unless of course the Agony mechanic is limited to the new dungeon, which they’ve already said is going to be expanded. At that point stacking resistance to Agony will only serve the purpose of longer and longer marathon runs while merely going to the dungeon for some casual Fractal clearing will be completely unaffected.
At that point it’s a win/win. Hardcore players can run the place until it’s stupid difficult, casuals can go in and have some fun and get some loot too.
How is introducing a new tier of items not already a treadmill?
It is the first step in that exact process. Something previously unavailable is now dangling in front of your nose. You want it? Well guess what: go grind for it!But, but they ll stop after this!
Will they really? They ve said themselves they listened to “player feedback” (not mine for sure) but they obviously did listen to people who “have done it all”.
Guess what happens when those exact people “do it all” again?
Will they then just say no to them then? Why cant they say no to those people now?
Why cant they stay true to the manifesto and many blog posts?
First off, stop using the manifesto as a crutch.
Second there was no breach of the manifesto (as if it was some kind of ironclad law, which it’s not) because this isn’t a gear treadmill at all.
In other MMOs it’s called a treadmill because no matter how often you collect all the best in slot gear there will always be a new patch that renders it useless, requiring you to regrind it again and again until the end of time.
Ascended gear is different. It’s one…count it, ONE tier of armor. Rather than release multiple tiers they’re drip feeding the gear into the game over time. Two slots now, two another patch, two after that. Eventually many patches down the line you’ll be able to wear a full set. It’s the ILLUSION of a gear treadmill, the slow collection of a single set across many patches instead of multiple progressively stronger sets, with a new one each content update.
And the illusion of a treadmill is not a treadmill, just something to invoke that sensation for those who desire it. Your precious manifesto is safely unbreached, no matter how hard you try to believe it has been.
And that’s the final word.
So it’s not restricted to 80’s and scales based on the overall level of the group? So much for cries of casuals being cut out and gear treadmills preventing access. I’m laughing at the people who panicked right now.
Ummm….they already said you can’t put anything but infusions in ascended gear. What’s the point of this request?
It was in that “Thoughts on Ascended Gear” megathread. Lemme dig it up…
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/135lrk/arenanet_about_ascended_armor/
Reddit thread on the second announcement. Now for the quote:
“Our goal is not to create a gear treadmill. Our goal is to ensure we have a proper progression for players from exotic up to legendary without a massive jump in reward between the two. We will slowly add the remaining ascended gear items and legendary items in future updates to allow people time to acquire them as we add exciting new content that deserves exciting rewards. We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.
Ascended and infusion rewards will be available in both PvE and WvW over time, and be made available through all sorts of content around the world including existing content. PvP will remain unaffected to ensure our intended PvP balance going forward. We are also working on other reward and progression systems for the game that tie into current and new content and features. As you know we care very much about your support and opinion and are listening intently to what you say.”All I get out from that article is them saying they will not be adding a new tier every 3 months. That is no way of a confirm that they will not be adding more new tier in the future. All it is saying is within that specific time frame after ascended is out, there will not be another tier introduce >.>
Now you’re just raising the goalpost. You wanted the info that states it’s not a gear treadmill. I post it, you respond with, “But it wasn’t worded this particular way.”
It says it right there in black and white. THERE WILL BE NO NEW TIERS OF ASCENDED GEAR.
This isn’t new content. This is the rest of the game you already payed for. How do you guys not know this…
Just look at the company history. Five years dark, then three games in under 18 months, one that was scrapped and turned into an expansion… six more years dark, and you thought GW2 was released as a finished product with it’s whopping 25 zones?
I’m starting to think you post only to get a kick out of reading your own insane ranting.
Logical fallacy much?
They’ve confirmed that there will be no new “tiers” of ascended gear already. Maybe you should relax.
Where did they confirm that ?? show me

Maybe you failed to read, but they’re already making new Ascended items required to be able to participate in all content
One dungeon isn’t all content. Now you’re just outright spewing lies.
(edited by Vasham.2408)
You are blowing a perceived problem out of proportion. ‘The game would only remain playable without this patch’, really?
A great number of people have decided they do not want to play a game with a gear treadmill.
A small treadmill is still a treadmill, and inevitably will become a larger treadmill. That’s how the concept works.
It’s not being blown out of proportion. We bought this game because it had things we liked and did not have things we do not like. Lack of mudflation was a major selling point for many of us. Many of us old farts aren’t interested in playing a game that’s going to mess around with that sort of thing, because we have in the past and we understand the game design decisions that a gear treadmill forces, and we do not like those game design decisions.
Logical fallacy much?
