We could also do with some kind of reward for downing a wall. Example:
yesterday in the EB I spent 5-10-15 minutes (whatever, felt like forever), solo catapulting down a wall from an enemy keep. My side’s zergs were in Stonemist at the time, fighting big battles. Eventually they won, and when I had the wall to 2% HP or something, part of the zerg came and finished the keep. Now I gained exactly the same reward as they did, while they got 100000 WXP from fighting in Stonemist as well. So basically I was wasting my time, even though I greatly contributed to the WvW since solo downing a wall is a very efficient way of playing.
I agree WvW would be better off without reviving dead players. But, then they should also adress the issue of keep tagging, so waypoints aren’t contested 90% of the time, cuz nobody wants to run from the start everytime they die.
Really? I like the comic in the game. No game should be sooo serious, period.. If you can’t take humor in a game then you must be a sad sad person in real life.
I think nobody is against there being humor in the game, it’s the sort of humor that’s bothering people. Jokes that a 5 year old would laugh about are generally not something I find funny.
Everytime I sell many things on the TP, I end up getting this error and I can’t sell anything more. This has been happening since day 1. Only if I spam click for a long time, or close the TP and try again, I sometimes manage to sell more stuff. Why does this error exist? It seems to me it’s a system to prevent you from selling many things, but I am a normal player and want to sell many things on a daily base. Why should it not be allowed?
The Naga is a piece of crap. Actually I think everything from Razr is extremely bad quality.
Nice generalization
1) every product that was ever made can be a “piece of crap” , if you are unlucky and get a bad one
2) Naga is not representative for all Razer products
3) wireless Naga is not even representative for all nagas
Not saying Razer is the best or anything. But what you wrote is just bs.
that would be really nice imo, gw2 could use some more ways for guild recruiting
I want a furbie race,
And a my little pony race
And I want to play as a zerg…. oh wait were not just throwing random crap into the game?
almost spit out my coffee
but you are right imo
It’s unfortunate.
I wanted to take Guild Wars 2 seriously and be immersed in a world where things mattered. Teddy bear back packs, ginger bread swords and 8bit super Mario worlds feel so out of place and disjointed that it looks like they have developers making content for Guild Wars 2 who have never seen Guild Wars 2.
GW2 is horrible for immersion players, but wasn’t that clear at launch already?
lol
nice OP, +1
2/10
too obvious
Razer Abyssus. Side buttons are overrated imo, especially in GW2 which has relatively few skills to keybind anyway. Abyssus is cheap and just as awesome in precision and sensitivity as stuff like Naga or Deathadder.
Elves generally fit in with a mysterious, magical feeling. GW2’s only has realism, if any other feeling is left it’s destroyed by lame jokes and NPC dialogue. I don’t think elves would fit in at all.
Gandara [EU] has it atm !!
I personally don’t like it. That said, since a lot of people do like it, why not keep it? As long as the chests in the world are removed, it’s a completely seperate thing and it wouldn’t hurt the game to make it stay.
biggest issue I have with the PvP will always be the downed state. I am really used to it now, and don’t think about it anymore when playing PvP but… everytime I see a question about it, I just realize how much more awesome it would be if downed state didn’t exist.
This survey could have been a lot better. Things like what do you prefer…hearts or traditional quests. Anet didn’t add the hearts to replace additional quests. They replaced traditional quests with dynamic events. The purpose of hearts was to get people to hang around in the areas where dynamic events spawn, since people were just running around missing dynamic events.
Several of the questions had no middle option. Like would you prefer one time events or the living story. Well, I’d prefer first of all to see how the living story evolves, but surely there are more options than just those two.
For example the Karka was a one time event and it failed miserably but that doesn’t mean other one time events wouldn’t work out. Given a choice between the living story as it stands now and the Karka event, I’d take the living story every time. But these two things are not all we’ve seen in the updates. Mad King Thorn’s instance wasn’t really a one time event and it wasn’t really living story. It was it’s own thing and it was great.
There are several questions in which the answers are leading, and for that reason, I’d say this survey isn’t going to provide the best information.
Thanks for your feedback, if I ever make a survey again it’s helpful :P However:
1) I do think the quests or hearts question was right, because most people I know/knew ingame, and also myself, used hearts as method of leveling rather than DEs. DEs were sort of a little extra when you ran into them. This was caused by the fact that hearts are reliable and always available. To use DEs as main leveling method, you either need to search for them or be lucky and have them spawn close to you. Add to this that people want to do hearts for world completion, and you’ll probably find hearts are used a lot more than DEs as quest replacement.
2) I didn’t think the karka event failed miserably, cause it was probably the day that me and some guildies had most fun in GW2
Thanks all for the replies, some interesting survey results so far. I’m quite surprised about how close some are to 50/50 split. Also as some pointed out, the survey has room for improvement, but it was my first survey, if I make one again it will be better
I absolutely hate it in games when skill becomes a non-factor and content obsolete purely because of gear and leveling stats; at least GW2 allows you to still play those areas without making them feel just pointless
While I agree with most of your post (perhaps I should have made more options, and I also liked those things about GW1) this part I can’t agree with. I feel totally pointless when going to lower level zones still. And in the lowest zones, I can solo champions with my 80 that would pretty much kill me in 5 seconds if I was on a low level alt. This may have something to do with overall GW2 difficulty though, since I never had any problems with the open world content, even the 80 zones are pretty much facerollable for me (veterans included)
GW1 and 2 are so different that they comparing them is kinda pointless, maybe another option in that question? Also, shouldn’t there be an “I don’t care about that” answer in each one? (for example, I don’t give a kitten about how many guilds a person can be part of)
You can skip questions, which I stated at the top of the survey (“feel free to skip questions that you just don’t care about”). I felt like this was a better solution than making everything required and adding “I don’t care” options to each question. And you can very well compare the two games, since the question clearly states that you should look at which you find more enjoyable. After all, the biggest factor in playing a game should be “fun”.
Rule #1 in survey taking, be non-bias if your not non-bias your survey results mean nothing.
A lot of the questions on this are very bias.
Examples: “Do you hate being ‘forced’ to do them,”
“Is it nice that Arenanet got such a tight control of gold sinks and inflation”The simplify your questions and remove any personal option. Your here to get others option not push your own
…I don’t believe this individual was trying to push his agenda in a malicious manner but probably did not realize that it was being done.
I indeed did not realize it. I did, after all, add two view points to each of these examples, one for and one against. zerorogue is only telling half of it in his post. Let’s look at the first one, the survey says: "Do you hate being “forced” to do them, or are you happy that they give a good reward?" The first part would indicate a bias towards a negative reply, but the second part would indicate the opposite. So how is the total of this biased? Are you maybe implying that one viewpoint was “stronger” than the other?
2 was inaccurate = monthly laurels now
Yes currently that’s true, but it’s only for this month because it’s patch month and not a general thing. I expect people know this.
…but it runs great
but you’ll still be able to attack everything
The issue with extreme lag / abilities not activating / not being able to attack is server side, and for the unbelievers, Anet actually confirmed this on the forums before. So no, WvW doesn’t always run great, but for it to do so will require another big fix from the devs. I have no doubt it will be there some day (after all, they did a great job fixing the culling imo) but currently this issue can indeed make the statement “WvW is horrible” true.
If you feel unmotivated, leave and come back 2 years later.
You’re not paying a subscription fee, the game will still be here when you come back.
… but if enough people follow this advice, the players won’t be
Alot of players nowadays expect MMOs to have an “end game content”. There seriously isn’t any TBH. A good end game content IMO is the bond and friendships that you make with the community/guild, guys and gals that you look forward to logging in every night to chit chat with, run dungeons with etc. That alone beats the so-called “End Game Content” that everyone thinks they want.
True, but how does one find a fitting guild? I’ve been in 5 or 6 so far, and none of them was the sort of guild I was looking for. The main reason is that in other games, there were ways to rank/sort guilds. For example, in Aion you had total abyss points. Then if you were really hardcore, you could apply for the 1) guild and if you were very casual you’d pick something like 20). In RIFT you had raid progress which could also give you this indication. In GW2 there is nothing, so all you can do is shout LF GUILD in Lion’s Arch, and hope you can find some people with your mindset. So far, I have not succeeded.
Apart from this, I think the multi-guild system also greatly reduces the sort of “natural closeness” between guildies, since they are a lot less important if there’s a few other guilds that can replace them with a simple mouse click.

Someone pointed out that the last question should have more options. I do agree and maybe I should have added something, but I don’t wanna change it now since that would mess up the results of that question.
Some interesting results so far, keep ’em coming
Hello people. To collect some player’s opinions about current topics and some of the changes GW2 made compared to other games, I created a survey. I avoided questions about stuff like class balance or dungeon encounters, and tried to look at the game as a whole. Here is the link to it:
Results are viewable after you complete it (or with link http://ow.ly/jzpST). Thanks in advance
Also, let me know if you think any question should be added.

Nice ability would be this:
rank 1) +1 to amount of ppl that can be hit by your aoe
rank 2) +2
rank 3) +3
etc
This would solve the QQ about aoe limit and the QQ about no meaningful abilities, without giving new players a huge disadvantage cause in any fight where their individual skill / strenght actually matters (smaller fights) there is no difference.
browsing the forums… I don’t find the game all that good atm, but patching is going in the right direction just very slowly. So I still have hope that GW2 will be a game that I find worth playing one day, so I stick around at the forums.
If i may suggest: go outside in the evening and take a long, deep look in to the night sky. Imagine now, that all thouse stars you see are Laurels that you would be abel to get in the future.
You might see now that 10 Laurels that you missed out on, is nothing compare to what’s out there, ahead of you.
I don’t see how this is relevant? You could make the same argument and say 100 laurels (cause there is stil thousands more stars than that), or even 1000, would you still not care then?
Do people really care that someone got 10 laurels, if someone getting 1 item a week-and-a-bit before you is enough to rage you need to get out more.
You aren’t going to autolose in wvw to someone with 1 more ascended piece than you.
Sigh.
1) yes obviously some ppl care or threads like this wouldn’t exist
2) I did not rage, dunno how making a forum post is somehow equal to raging
3) No I am not going to autolose to someone with 1 more ascended piece. But it does matter. In fact, it matters more than any amount of WvW ranks, since those don’t affect PvP damage and ascended items do. I calculated it through for my current build, and upgrading those 6 jewels to ascended would give almost 10% dmg increase. This is significant, and therefore laurels are too, and shouldn’t be handed out unfairly so easily.
I think for sPvP activity, awarding laurels for the monthly and daily on top of the ones already gotten from the PvE monthly / daily, is the best thing that could happen. This alone will keep sPvP from dying, and some PvEers might actually like it and start playing sPvP while they wouldn’t have done it otherwise.
The downside of this is of course that there will be whiners who will complain because someone else got more laurels than they did, and they’ll whine about “being forced to play PvP” . This is all quite predictable and probably the reason that these extra laurels will never be given again.
It sucks. I did both monthlies before the patch. They should email those who did both monthlies before patch 10 laurels. I don’t mind people getting one laurel from daily, but 10? That’s a week and a half worth of laurels.
Exactly. People shouldn’t have got a week and a half worth of “ascended progress” just because they were too lazy to do their monthly before patch, but all hurried to do it as soon as this bug, exploit or whatever it is, got known. It’s really lame and imo they should either remove the laurels from those who got them without deserving them, or give everyone else a chance to get them too.
What’s the point of removing culling in PvE ?
In WvW it was needed because it was annoying to get killed by what seemed like 2 or 3 enemies.
Are you annoyed because the dragon is killed by what seems like 2 or 3 enemies ?
And because those encounters need nothing more than spamming your skills, you can do them just fine without seeing the additional monsters or players.
Seeing the players around you adds to the overall experience of the game, in other words: it’s fun. I like fighting the dragon much more when I see 100 ppl around me than when I see 5, even if it goes down equally fast. But if it’s not enough, two examples of gameplay elements are:
1) mobs, they get culled as well, and some of them can one/two shot you (champion wolf for example)
2) downed / dead allies, you can’t go and res them if you can’t see them. Also, obviously, when you are downed yourself you’re more likely to be rezzed if people can actually see you.
What’s really annoying in high population areas is seeng no players, but a mass of names and those lame titles all floating around in mid air
Does this actually happen? For me, models are always loaded before the nametags are. Only in WvW this happens if you set character limit to low.

Balance? Warrior is already in a good position 0 0%
’nuf said
Yeah it is kinda silly as it is now. If I wanted to buy gear with gold, I’d go to the trading post… badge gear should only cost badges. If it’s too cheap that way, they can increase the price by increasing the amount of badges required rather than adding gold to it. And yea WvW is already expensive unless you get all your siege from jump puzzles (which is actually PvE)
Not that there is any interesting gear that I would want to buy… just commenting on the system.
I’d really love to see LA without culling, I guess it would be funny to see hundreds of people standing at the trader’s forum and fractals portal at peak times
Yeah, this alone would make a fix worth it imo
So we have a fix for WvW culling. It was removed, you can now see everything, and it greatly improved the whole experience (at least for me). Now why was the old system kept for PvE? I ran some events today (dragons, golem, behemoth, elemental) and was annoyed by culling in every single one. What reason is there to not implement the same fix in PvE as was done in WvW ?
reducing ALL quickness just like that without changing anything else is a huge hit to classes which currently revolve around access to quickness such as the Warrior.
Overall nice post, but about this part:
Warrior didn’t revolve around quickness. It only did if you wanted it to, if that’s the way you played it. I never played anything but warrior, and I’m happy with the quickness nerf. I’ve been saying it was too powerful since beta. I personally didn’t take a hit at all, in fact I’m relatively stronger now cause quickness thieves and rangers are bothering me less.
I do think that with the current effects some of the cooldowns (including frenzy) are too high. For frenzy I think they could pretty much halve the cd without it being overpowered in its current state.
I totally agree with stuff said here. The badges made it bad before, but over time people started not needing badges anymore and the gameplay was lately a bit more fun. After the patch hit though, I saw the biggest trains and zergs that I’ve seen in my MMO history. Once there were so many people in stonemist that not even auto attack would activate anymore due to the “lag”. Now this issue is for another thread, just saying it to indicate the zerg size.
I’ve always found it stupid that zerging is the most rewarding play type. They should have thought about that before putting the new patch through, since it gives just +1 reason to zerg. If badges, XP, karma and general loot weren’t enough, now there’s WXP as well. My suggestion would be: remove WXP from player kills and give big WXP for defending a camp/tower/keep. Something like double what you get for taking it. Then we might see a decrease in zerging.
my thief : Cull Me Maybe
this has my vote
:D
So OP, basically you are saying “GW2 is the best game ever played” , and then to support this you say “I love the game” . Anyone else see the flaw in this argument?
I think it’s a bit stupid when people say “GW2 sucks, it’s a horrible game” , but I think “GW2 is the best game ever” is just as stupid, though I won’t list reasons here cause that has been done countless times already.
Thanks for the replies all !
And if you die you don’t deserve bags, it’s that simple.
Did you actually think before posting this? Because you are saying:
1) bunkers deserver their loot most (since they die least)
2) if you spend time attacking an enemy or helping a downed ally, you deserver your loot less than when you run around like a headless chicken spamming F
I don’t see how anyone could agree with that.
But running around picking loot bags is half the fun!
I do think they should change the design a bit though – loot bags should drop on corpses and in return be automaticly picked up when you run over them. That way we keep loot bags, but avoid button spam.
It’s half the fun indeed, but only when you don’t have to stop fighting to pick up the loot. I disagree with the drop on corpses though, that would make them unreachable sometimes.
I don t mind lootbags…what I mind is badges not being automatic and lootable. Most of the time I don t have time to loot the bags in big fights and thus I lose badges. I don t care whatsoever about loot or mats etc… Badges should not be part of the manual loot system and should be automatically added like kills or xp are.
This was exactly the reason I made this thread, I don’t care about the blues/greens either. And some people might say they don’t need badges, but what if ascendeds get added to WvW later? (which is not unlikely btw)
No I don’t want to talk to that mob, I want my loot. No I don’t care if tat person is dead, give me my loot. Siege are for pansies, I just want my kitten loot! Fffffffffffffffffffffffff
And this is why I usually don’t spam my loot key in siege. You end up using random stuff and that slows down your fight even more.
… are there still loot bags? Why do I still have to run around mid battle to collect badges, or run back in the middle of a chase because a bag just spawned under me? What’s the point of this stupid system???
Even worse, I just had an amazing fight at a keep. There were at least 6 loot bags on the ground when I died. We ended up losing the fight, so no allies were there to res me. When I waypointed and ran back, all bags were gone.
PLEASE make a proper loot system where you actually get your loot without having to ruin your own battle by running around to collect them.
I really like the ranks / abilities. Why? Because it gives you more reason to play, which is exactly what WvW needed imo.
Depends how you define suck… if you move with the zergs as glass cannon rifle war, you can get insane amounts of kills
Regardless of class balance, the OP has a valid point about the fact that some skills just go on cooldown without actually activating if you’re not facing your target. This is ridiculous and should be fixed. I have it really often with the axe throw cripple and tremor (mace skill 5)
to me the presence of enemies has always made it a lot more fun. There’s a thrill in it that I haven’t found anywhere else in GW2, probably cause there is no open world PvP (apart from WvW, but that’s really different). Also, if you want a free run to chest, pick some especially early / late time and you’re almost guaranteed to see nobody.
If only Anet gave a survey ingame. Imagine:
Something like this pops up for everyone when going to the heart of the mists for the first time after patch. Then they could disregard the surveys that were completed too fast, so they only get serious opinions and not the ones of PvEers who are just clicking through it.
It would be quite accurate way to see players opinion I think, at least way more accurate than judging by forums, “top players” or whatever the way is that they currently collect player opinions.
So I’m playing sPvP. A warrior uses bulls charge / frenzy / 100b on me. I use shield block and down him, then he leaves the game. Sometimes works on thieves too. Makes me lol every time
Seeing a dead person say sth like “wwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaa6666666” is just classic
Another epic moment was here on forums (see attachment)
edit: found the thread:

(edited by Veldan.4637)
What I learned from gw2 is: how people don’t appreciate good things and hold onto negativity blindly.
For example everyone forgets how:
- you need 0 grind to play pvp in gw2
- you can play any class at any moment in gw2 in pvp
- you don’t need stupid healers anymore and you’re free to choose your class as you like
Yea game is not perfect, but out of all mmos I played, its by far best. There is nothing even close to gw2 in my opinion.
The people who are only whining about the bad points are doing so cause they are not having fun. And then they list the reasons for that. You can list as many good points as you want, they don’t matter at all for those who don’t find GW2 fun to play.
I personally would rank GW2 pretty much lowest of the MMOs I’ve played.
What! This game sounds awesome. Everyone has so many chances to stay in combat the fight will just go on until someone gets outsmarted! Why am I not playing this? It’s like intense chess!
GW1 could maybe be compared to intense chess. Believe me, not GW2. Chess has no “okitten” buttons, no easy escapes / temporary invulnerabilities. In chess, if you make a mistake, you deal with the consequences. If this was always the case in GW2 too, I would instantly reinstall.
yes sPvP is great fun… said the 500 people who are still playing it, out of a few million GW2 sold
[original post]
Mesmers are what you would call, quoting some dev from another game, “Anti-fun”.
The frustration caused on enemy players far exceeds the fun that a mesmer player could possibly have when summoning heaps of illusions one after another, among other annoying mechanics.
And that alone is bad design.
These two posts describe exactly how I feel about it. After not having played for a week or two, I played some sPvP today, to be so annoyed by thieves and mesmers again that I just gave up and quit after half an hour.
Mechanics that are purely annoying and ruin the PvP experience for me:
- large amount of clones
- stealth / other dissapear like teleport
If it were up to me stealth would be totally removed, and the amount of clone skills would be reduced. Before people go cry that thieves and mesmers are too weak then: that’s a kitten argument, obviously some balancing could and would be done to compensate for it. But even if not, the general fun of playing the game is more important than balance, as the thread title says.
The reason is “hotjoin” aka zerg-join. If you move on to tpvp where players actually know how to handle things, you will see that every class is played and not only thieves/mesmers.
Things being fine for tPvP is in no way an excuse for the horrible experience that hot join currently is. They should either remove hot join alltogether, or make it fun, which would involve changing things that may also affect tPvP.
