Shame for Arenanet to design skins that cater to both big-staff lovers and small-staff lovers, right?
And what about the discrimination factor for those that can not gamble due to religion or some other social/cultural stigma?
And what about it? There could be a religion out there against violence yet this game consists of killing animals, monsters and other species.
How about drinking? I guess you shouldn’t roll a norn
How about kosher and halal foods? Better not consume any meats then or even consider chef as a crafting profession…
Ya see where I’m going? Arenanet could care less about religions and it’s effect in the game world.
You think I want to see a female Charr in a bathing suit?
I don’t mind if they make these as long as each time they make a new set of in-game skins to get. I’m sick of all the rewards being OUT-OF-GAME.
Goals should be added to the GAME.
Kind of like Fused weapons → SAB?
or Halloween skins → Southsun skins?
Look, these are premiem skins. They are premium because they are exclusive and more than likely will never be released again. That’s fine with me, as long as they have other numerous skins that are decent looking and can be obtained without RNG.
It seems people have forgotten the other skins that have been released, like Halloween or even SAB
Remember before release how everyone was all happy that GW2 would have stuff that would be sold as novelty, and nothing would be pay to win?
Well look now, there are people complaining for the sake of complaining because they can’t get their novelty stuff for free or for cheap.
No, consumers are attempting to make their voices heard because in a game where it’s all about the cosmetics for the majority of the player base people are being asked to gamble for a chance at cosmetic items rather than being allowed to straight-up buy them.
What’s the alternative? You can offer the cosmetics as a straight purchase, but then everyone has them and they’re completely worthless. You can maybe make them expensive, but then everyone complains about the up-front cost.
And who says they’re worthless if everyone has one? Everyone should be able to get stuff, without it being based on RNG (let alone RNG with real money). Value is in the eye of the beholder. I could care less if everyone had the same item/armor that I was using, as long as I like that armor. If anything, I’m more kittened at other players that have those exclusive items. They get my contempt more than my respect/adoration.
You mispelled jealousy

I can imagine the chain-reaction responses…
Anet will end up selling these skins directly through a high gem cost
→Players will complain that they’re so expensive and that they’re greedy, not worth the cost
The skins end up circulating in greater frequency
→Players will complain that there are very few skin choices in the game and everyone looks the same
Anet ends up making less money and will probably have to scale back on providing monthly content
→ Players complain that Anet is not providing new content

So this game is pay-to-look-good? That’s the first time I heard about it like that. I wonder what the reaction to GW2 would have been if they encouraged purchases of gear and weapons through the gem store…
This kitten isn’t changing. Anet is making a ton of money from this and I don’t fault them. As soon as sales start to lag I’m sure they will consider offering it directly through the store. In the meantime, I’m going to buy 25 more keys.
Crafting never fails in this game. There are no ‘crits’ other than exp crits while crafting.
1200 gems? Thats 15 dollars >.> Is it just me or are the prices going up?
Everything about GW2 is turning into a cash grab…I am rapidly approaching the “uninstall” point.
Everything? really? Or do you mean random “skins” that do absolutely nothing game-wise? A chance to get one can be purchased with cash, gold or looted from mobs… I see no difference then any other MMO I have played other than they offer more ways to get them and they are not needed in the least.
You people crack me up IT’S A SKIN! lol
OHNOES RandomPlayer01 has a different looking sword and I wants it! /quit /forumwhine /threatenuninstall

Last stand? against what?
Could this be a final rebellion against the consortium?
Or could this mean the karka are finally fed up and will go all out, leading to either their extinction or domination of the island once again?
I like it. Exclusivity is good.
“Excuse me! Do you have a moment?” “Excuse me! Do you have a moment?” “Excuse me! Do you have a moment?” “Excuse me! Do you have a moment?” “Excuse me! Do you have a moment?” “Excuse me! Do you have a moment?” “Excuse me! Do you have a moment?”
God! Doesn’t anyone bother to think to put in a delay on these guys?
CITIZENS! CITIZENS! CIT-CITIZENS!
So..any confirmation on malchor farm? Any change?
right now the traps are useless except for maybe the supply one. The invisibility one is useless because you won’t encounter that in big zerg battles. I could see a trap being used around a supply camp though.
I liked the vet at the malchor farm
. Oh well champ blues here we go
.
I don’t think that’s the same farm I was alluding to ;p
Disappointed there aren’t any other major fixes, but then again, this is patch 1 of 2 for this month!
Can anyone confirm if malchor farm is still doable when the patch goes live?
BTW, patch notes are up
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Game-Update-Notes-May-14-2013
F5 spam the dev tracker for patch notes!
I don’t mind the RNG. If people want it, they will spend for it.
Stay the course, Arenanet.
I wouldn’t be worried about that. If Anet enforced that rule, the majority of the player base in this game would be banned.
People afk farm (10-15 seconds) events all the time. I do it with kitten teq, SB, FE. Anything that can be targetable, I enable auto-attack.
Frankly I’m surprised that option is in game because right now it is getting ‘exploited’
You get into trouble when you use 3rd-party applications, or maybe even setting up macros
Last patch they surprisingly released it early, I think noon pst or so
Dulfy is in my guild on Yaks Bend and she’s pretty much on the spot in terms of gathering information on new items/events/patches.
I bet you she’s waiting patiently for the patch right now, pen and notepad on hand!
I’m on Yak’s Bend. What guild?!
…watch she’s probably in my guild and I never even knew it.

Anet are basically selling gold now.
Shame on them for trying to make a profit, right?
It’s risky but you’re not investing a whole lot so I don’t see a bigproblem.
HOWEVER
I don’t see how people would prefer that sigil over, say, sigil of luck.
Perhaps you are speculating that there will be several new events in this zone which will make it profitable to farm? And that those people who want to farm may want to kill karka easier?
Here’s the problem though -
If there are enough events to make farming activity profitable in southern shore, then chances are, you won’t need the superior sigil of karka slaying because there will lots of players killing mobs in seconds anyway.
It’s the same reason why people wear MF gear in orr farming zones. Mobs die so quickly that any damage boosts are for useless and you’re better off wearing MF.
I must commend you for taking the time to figure this and map it all out.
It’s a shame though that this event has been bugged so long. All they need to do is tone down the damage wells from Risen Nobles and they will stand a chance…
And so what if they were much harder? Then people won’t do them because they look at the rewards and don’t see sufficient reward.
So buff rewards you say? Well how much? Guaranteed exotics? 10 orbs? Well just how well can you design an event that can be sufficiently difficult and provide rewards, but also have zero exploitable holes that make it easy enough to farm?
I think everyone here knows Dulfy
Golden because i’m a rich bookah
It’s for a legendary..shouldn’t be easy to find or get..
Eye of Rodgort, sceptre
it’s a huge eyeball that looks around
You most likely have those items in an invisible slot bag
Seriously. STOP IT.
We paid your game. We want those skins, but we don’t want them to be a CRAPPY RNG BASED KITTEN!
SERIOUSLY. I would’ve bought at least 3-4 fused weapons skins, instead they put them into those stupid black lion chests with a ridiculously low chance of dropping (i opened +/- 15 of those from dropped keys and bough ones and got not even one), it sucks and nobody frigging like it.
We want stuff to be fair kitten it, personally, it’s the last time i buy anything on the gem store untill they start making stuff fair and whatnot.haha, the reason you want that skin so bad is because it’s highly prized.
Now, consider this question very carefully: Do you know why it’s highly prized?
Then, realize the answer: It’s only so highly prized because of how rare it is. People love having rare/sought after stuff.
If fused skins were cheap and easy to get, it wouldn’t be nearly as sought after, and there wouldn’t be nearly as many people shelling out $100-150 just for a ticket.
I use this same argument for legendaries/precursors but there are people out there who proclaim that they like the skins cause they look nice, not cause they’re rare.
I’m sure they’ll feel the same once they see everyone and their mother carry a legendary.
I mean, there’s a reason why not many seasoned warriors/guardians carry around a Jotun Greatsword. Sure, it has a great ‘Ascalonian ghost’ effect that is better than all exotic greatswords out there but…the fact that you resort to a cheap skin that can be bought with 600 karma makes me think of you as cheap ;\
I haven’t thought about how this would effect the economy, so I apologize if it would be destroyed by this system, but in my opinion a player should be able to gather his/her own material instead of relying on materials to be available cheaply on the trading post.
Naus the Gobbo
And this is why it won’t work. Everyone will have a chance at this token and all the crafting material, and it’s basically 100% chance. What is the point in that then? Everyone will have maxed crafting and everyone will have abundant mats to make their rares and legendaries.
Let’s give consideration as to what happens if you were to introduce this and the effects it has on the economy. The value of all T6 mats plummets to NPC value like it has for silk cloths. The value of rares plummet since it is now easy to craft rares using these insanely cheap components. The value of ectos plummets since you can make rares so cheaply and then salvage them.
So now pretty much all loot in game has no value, or vendor price. No one will want to play this game because there isn’t really any incentive. Why do meta events and hope for a few rares when you can just craft them and save time? Why do events/hearts when you can get lvl 80 in 5 hours just through crafting (and probably spending under 10g)
(…)
Lol.
I thought the quota for BLTC/RNG rants for this week was already met.
Does that tell us anything? One can only hope that there is need for fresh blood to continue the chest frenzy. If such fresh blood lacks perhaps the scale will tip towards not favouring RNG-chests.
Not holding my breath though
It tells us that there are people out there with unreasonable expectations and entitlement that they deserve everything to their benefit only, without consideration that NCSoft is a publicly traded company whose sole mandate is to satisfy investors.
The Bureau of Gamer Classifications disagrees
Y’all should redirect your hate to the BLTC and their otherwordly fees.
I would very much love this. Rift has a great system where you could have four separate roles/builds that you could change when out of combat. I think there was even a way to save gear sets. In GW2 I have four gearsets and its really tough keeping track of them all
Oh, I should also add, keep into consideration the current skin market for each weapon.
I know about the GS, shield, sceptre and staff market and there really aren’t many good skins for those except for the GS. Shield and staff especially are very underwhelming. This is why my portfolio largely consists of shield/staff and only 2 GS.
I don’t know much about short bow skins but for sceptre that is a good hold. There aren’t many impressive cheap sceptre skins out there. The best looking-non legendary sceptre is eye of rodgort and even that one is pretty expensive. The sceptre also has a pretty good market for guardians and elementalist since the skin suits their look well.
If you need the gold, cash out
If you can afford to hold, keep it.
What happened was all the newbie speculators thought they could make a quick buck after the patch and sell the skins 2 fold. Smart speculators know that it takes awhile for the value to go up and often the time with the lowest price is after the patch.
The one thing that concerns me is that we are most likely going to have new skins come out over the next few months which may dilute the # of in-demand skins for weapons. For example, for greatswords in October we didn’t have much choices. But after that, we have the greatsaw, the fused GS and the SAB GS. Thanks to datamining, we know there will be an eyeball GS.
So now the market for high-quality skins is getting diluted and the future value of older skins may end up stalling. Not to mention everyone wants to get rich and everyone probably has at least 1 SAB skin in their bank hoping to cash out.
I personally invested about 1000g in SAB skins but that value has now dropped to 600g. On average, lost about 30g for GS

The fact that they keep bringing these RNG chests out just shows it’s working. People are addicted to chance. And that’s fair.
Also, just because you paid for your box doesn’t mean you are entitled for all new content changes in the game. Just be happy that Arenanet has the courtesy to give you a lot of the new content for free..
Why do you think a CK cotton shirt costs $80 but a Burberry cotton shirt costs $600?
BRANDING
No matter what you do, people will complain.
Replace rng with tokens? People complain about having too many currencies
Replace multiple currencies with one currency? People complain how acquiring new content becomes easy
You should probably finish off the Living Story stuff since this chapter is closing out on Tuesday. It ends with a fairly easy dungeon and you get a free skin.
It says right there on the preview page

I think people use the word farming as a catch all, when the real issue is something a little different.
Players shouldnt be able to earn a legendary by standing in a single spot for hours and hours with their finger on the # 1 key – or for running a dungeon as mind numbingly easy and fast as COF1 20+ times in a row in a single day.
At the same time, farming should be (and is) a viable way to play – it just needs to be done smartly. Even in the real world, farmers have to rotate their crops to keep from depleting the soil (their version of DR). Requiring farmers to move between events or zones to maximize yield seems fair to me.
I have routes mapped out in several zones that include a mix of farmable mobs and dynamic events. When I feel like farming, I follow these routes. Followed by playing the Trading Post a little (rather than selling outright), I make a good amount of gold (close if not equal to my friends who grind individual areas).
I think that DR and anti-grind changes at single events/dungeons/etc. is a good move on ArenaNet’s part. It isnt good for the game to have large groups of people stay in a single spot for hours (days?) on end.
Farming is still viable – you just have to put more thought into it (which should be a requirement for anyone wanting a legendary
).
I agree, but there are restrictions that make these farmable routes not enjoyable or rewarding enough.
For one, we have DR which kills the loot rate for up to 24 hours. DR is somewhat manageable when you are farming 1 spot with a huge amount of mobs, but when you have to run around in a chain you just don’t get as much rewards per hour.
And #2, the best loot is only available in end-game zones. So farmers need to stay in Cursed Shore, Malchor and northern FSG. If this game had 100% guaranteed on-par loot for your level, farming would be much easier and enjoyable for me.
Keys are not worth the cost, the reward is just too infrequent.
If you have time I really suggest farming keys from the storyline. You can get 1 per 30/45 minutes.
To copy/paste from another thread..
I’m a farmer too and I do it because that’s what I like to do in MMOs. This game up until January was pretty good for farmers. I supplemented this with gems and supported Anet with $800 in purchases.
Since then I have not bought anything due to the constant farming nerfs by Anet. I’m very disappointed and it’s no coincidence that I’m not playing or enjoying this game as much as I used to.
There are only two really good farming areas in this game, one of them being Cof1 which I don’t do. But if they nerf the other, I don’t envision myself playing this game as before.
I’m already a wealthy player with lots of gold and legendaries but my fun is through farming and they’re removing that.
