Funny, I get two of the most expensive precursors as drops but I have spent well over 700g on the forge – and have nothing to show for it.

I acutally think that it is not a matter of of full MF set, but rather the amount of time you spend in the game… It is obvious you spent there at least 1500 hours, I remember your posts about legendaries and now you tell us how you spent 700g on MF… You see I play since BWE1 almost everyday, run with full MF set on trashmobs since December too. But never got any precursor yet. You know why? I played twice or thrice as less as you did…. That’s the whole concept of getting precursors… you have to invest your time, not count on luck.

Well it’s a bit of both. You play more, the more ‘chances’ you get at rolling for the precursor

karma to gold via temple armors

I really don’t recommend selling karma. Karma is actually pretty hard to get. It just doesn’t seem that way because you often don’t spend it and it accumulates rather slowly.

Imagine you spend 1.5 million karma and then Arenanet releases a bunch of new karma items that are valuable? It’s gonna be hard to get that karma in a reasonable time frame (especially since Plinx farm was nerfed a long time ago)

On a side note, it’s very efficient to save the karma from the jugs. Karma itself is not transferrable between characters but the jugs are. They are pretty cheap solutions for armor if you decide to craft-level a new character to 80 and want lvl 80 exotic gear.

People keep saying “please make it skill-based”

1.) You need to expand on this. I just cannot envision a scenario where a quest for a precursor would be challenging enough to be difficult for the top 5% of the playerbase, and one that would take a lot of time to complete.

2.) Jumping puzzle? Bosses? Those aren’t skill based. Jumping puzzles are extremely easy for the average gamer. People who stink at those just do not have the hand-eye coordination of the average gamer. Bosses can be easily exploited, zerged and hard to design so that all classes will be able to handle it equally.

And then there are the casual players who will suddenly complain that said content is ‘too difficult’ and that they want a precursor handed to them in mere hours.

3.) Unfortunately, the best way to ‘gate’ legendary items, which are (or will be) BIS items is time and gold. Time shows commitment to the game which is more important than ‘skill’.

1.) the precursor imho should be the skill-dependant part where all the lore is, the rest is already pretty time consuming… tons of mats you have to collect. So both: challenging and time consuming is in there.

2.) Not to be rude, but where’s your imagination? + you didn’t read my suggestion but only pick parts of it out of context. You can make (as I explained above) JPs challenging by instancing those and add new layers to it. Like a NPC who spawns veterans/champions behind him so that you have to

  • be fast enough to let them spawn behind you —> it’s a race between you and the npc, OR
  • be strong enough to beat the veterans while they try to knock you off the ledges.

Furthermore: instanced bosses can’t be rushed and exploits are quite easy to fix in 1-player instances. Hard to design? It worked pretty well in the personal story missions.

3.) time and gold only is good for

  • people who flip trading post offers for hours (which is quite boring and not worth a legendary imho)
  • people who farm for hours the most efficient route (which is also quite boring imho and favours players with a constant group)

EDIT: As I can see from your Sig that you already had 20(!!!) exotic drops I assume that you love farming. Nothing wrong with that. I see though, why you don’t like the idea of rewards for challenge instead of grind. Just to add, I play since release and had not a single exotic drop from open world mobs yet.

Actually I’ve had +60 open world exotic drops (it’s cause of MF) since January (that’s when I started recording)

-So let’s talk about the race. How is that going to be fair for all classes? A class like mesmer, if I recall, does not have any speed buffs. While a class like guardian or ele can maintain 100% speed buffs
-As for vets – again, some classes are shortchanged than others. Just equip stability (if you have it) to handle it.
-Personal story missions were very easy. Interesting, yes, but they were easy.

There is little to no skill potential when it comes to PvE. Anything that is difficult the first time will be learned quickly and it will not be easy anymore. I remember having so much difficult with the Mad King JP when it came out, and I was very good at JP. But it was difficult because I was still learning the paths and the most efficient routes. As soon as I finished that JP, I never had trouble again.

THAT is why it is difficult to design ‘SKILLFUL’ content. You need to design a system that will always be difficult whether it’s your first or 12th run. Because as soon as people figure out the system that supposedly makes it difficult, it will be exploited to the fullest extent.

Regarding time and gold
-I think you are overestimating the number of people who make gold off of flipping. If everyone did it, there would be no profit. It’s called arbitrage and it’s very interesting, you can wiki it. And it’s not as easy as it sounds. People who make money off of arbitrage deserve it

The power is with your bank, and it’s up for you to tell them to stop blocking transactions. If they refuse, then tough luck and find another bank that won’t hassle you.

People have different tastes, different activities as to how they consider fun.

Some people like SPvP, and hate it when classes are unbalanced

Some people like end-game Pve, and hate it when there are not enough interesting challenges

Some people, like me, hate it when Arenanet nerfs farming points because I like to make gold and find farming relaxing

There are many activities in this game that players can do. I think if you have a closed-mindset as to what you consider fun, you are more likely to get disgruntled. If you enjoy MMO’s in general, though, and play different aspects, I think you will enjoy the game.

Create a forge recipe for material bags

Bags like large moldy bag, heavy moldy bag, e.t.c.

If you put four of the same bag in the forge, you will end up with one bigger bag which provides a higher quantity of mats.

For example, in a heavy moldy bag, if you roll for t6 mats, you get 1 to 2 of them. If you were to combine four heavy moldy bags, you will end up with say, Gigantic moldy bag which will provide a higher quantity of mats. For example, you will now have a chance to get 5-10 t6 mats (if it rolls).

I should also add that it takes about 6 hours and 60-80G to level a character completely to 80 through crafting. I don’t know how much you would price a race change but I’m sure it would be at least 800 gems which as these rates would be +20g.

You can save even more money through crafting by leveling normally to 10 while relying on crafts for lvls 11-70, and Orr/events for 71-79

You know, you’d think that Giant Eyes are a great commodity to hoard but countless times I’ve seen people try to do it and they failed miserably. There is very little supply – sure. But there is such few demand thakitten plummets rapidly. I’ve seen the price rise as high as 1.2G only to fall down to 40-60s a day late.

If the only thing this game had was just 1600 events that you want to play, I assure you that farmers would not do all of them and would find the top 5% events that rewarded the most.

Which leads to a.net introducing DR to stimulate more healthy and engaging playstyles, to limit the advantage farmers have over players who game for fun. That became a big outrage, while in reality most players were never affected by it. Seriously, how many normal people consistently run the same dungeon path more than one, except for farmers? That’s not fun.

DR was introduced to handle bots, and since they’re almost non-existent, it should be removed. The only reason why I think it’s still here is because it has a positive effect on the economy.

Healthy and engaging playstyles? I don’t want Arenanet telling me how I should play the game. Of course, it’s within reason, like exploits, but if I want to farm, I should be and I shouldn’t be punished.

Perhaps it’s healthier for me to farm the same thing over and over since I find it relaxing and stress-free, as opposed to having to pay 100% attention to event objectives and trying to find the next event to do.

Or put it another way, I hope that Anet will hold on to their goal that only 5% of they player base will ever get a legendary. As a player who has already put in the tremendous effort to get my legendary, I don’t want to see many more than the 5% of players running around with them. However it’s implemented, the precursor hunt should be epic and not too easy.

I really hope that they make the scavenger difficult and long enough that players will still think that the 600g or so to buy some precursors is a suitable alternative.

i.e. includes:
-10,000 WvW kills
-90 laurels
-50 guild commendations
-dungeon master
-50 SPvP Tourneys

+ a whole list of scavenger item requirements that can only be acquired through beating tough bosses, acquired at different times at the day, and through solo and team work.

I agree, I wikitten were harder, but it’s too late to turn back now. I think the current process is too easy – with hardcore farm you can get it in a month. I have 3 now, could afford 2 more.

I was hoping before release that legendaries would take hardcore farmers 4 months to get.

I really appreciate the idea of a scavengerhunt and it makes me happy to see a statement showing us they are actually working on it.

But I’d like to point out things that seem to get drowned in the euphoria of an upcoming scavengerhunt.

Once you’ve acquired your beloved precursor, you find yourself facing a new possible problem, an extrem rise of the prices for the rest of the mats.

Because once everyone has their precursor they’ll obviously need all the other things aswell and this will most likely push prices much higher than they allready are.

Let’s be honest, who’s going to farm the t6 mats entirely? who’s going to farm the lodestones (especially the charged ones)? No, it’s much easier to buy them and we know what this will cause.

Now don’t get me wrong, I totally support the concept of the scanvengerhunt. I just think that before implementing it, other aspects of building the legendary should be adjusted. Because as it is now, it might create a new problem.

But perhaps it’s allready planned to make adjustements or maybe my scenario will not occure.

Adjustment? Why? To make it easier and cheaper? The only adjustment they need is to provide alternatives to the legendary process.

Higher T6 prices work both ways. It costs more for legendary hunters to acquire but it also rewards more gold for those who do not wish or already have their legendary.

If anyone is familiar with Runescape and the Completionist cape (both regular and trimmed) know that is the “end-game item achievement”. This takes YEARS of grinding and 1 of the items on the checklist takes 5,000 games of a mini-game at 20 minutes each. I agree with Vol. Any Precursor checklist should be long, it should be hard, it should be a grind.

Legendary weapons should be legendary. Pay the cash or do the time for your precursor.

Your last line is highly contradictory. What is at all legendary about forking over cash?

It’s easy to make gold in this game if you commit the time to it. If you don’t, it’s hard. Sure you can point to the examples of credit card kids or people who flip on the outpost, but those people are a minority.

SAB is fun and all but its not permanent content and it feels more like a mini game in the game. was more talking about expanding the story we have and adding new places to explore

Well they did add Southsun in November, and I agree it’s been awhile. But it’s very difficult to start a new map from scratch as well as program the additional events, animations and record voice acting. If you read Colin’s post awhile back about the GW2 plan for the spring/summer, it was more about improving and expanding the current content.

I mean, look at Southsun and how barren it was in terms of events for quite awhile. Even now, it’s not a completely full fledged zone (and we probably won’t see it as one until this phase of Southsun is over). But they are slowly improving it, as well as other areas.

Now, it takes awhile to make this type of permanent content you want, and for all we know, they may be working on new permanent content for Crystal Desert or Maguuma. And all that new content may be in store for the next expansion, or for a new revealing in the summer months. I don’t expect them to come out here and say that “Yes we’ll be releasing a new map with new content very shortly” but I’m very confident that they are working on it. They have teams for content polishing, bugs, living story and definitely for permanent content. They need a way to make money, anyways.

The quest for a Legendary is supposed to be legendary. Right now you have to run WvW for x2 stack badges, some dungeon for x2 stack item, and world completion for playing across the game.

Everything else is farming anywhere you want to buy the t6, lodestones, ectos, and precursor. Why shouldn’t at least one more of those encourage more actual game play instead of farming?

The areas of play left out in current Legendary quest are sPvP and JP’s. These need a portion in the quest somewhere.

I missed this earlier and I have an honest question:

Do you expect an MMO out there to not have farmers? Farmers are a gameplay choice. People who farm want to get things faster and more efficiently than others. And believe it or not, farmers may actually enjoy that kind of ‘grind’.

So what exactly is this ‘actual gameplay’ you speak of? Because no matter what Arenanet does, farmers will always be out there looking for the fastest way of playing the game.

Sorry, by new tier of legendary, I don’t mean new weapons, like 2 extra sta kitten in addition to the Bifrost

By ‘ascended legendary’ I mean you can upgrade you current legendary using more expensive recipes that will make it more desirable and look even cooler.

E.g.
-FSP will now have a trail of flying ghost books as you walk around with it, equivalent to footprints
-Sunrise will now have rays of Sunlight shoot out on critical hits (Twilight will have dark streaks like those flying dark things in Harry Potter)
-Bifrost will now have shards of icy footprints
-Juggernaut will now leave noticeable damage marks on the ground after each pummel/attack

edit: Not sure why “s.t.a. kitten ” is getting converted to kittens with this filter

The materials used to craft precursors are dropping in price and more people are hitting the threshold where they can craft them reliably. Of course prices will drop in line with that.

Not necessarily clear cut that is the case

-the other legendary components get considerably cheaper, introducing more people who see it as an opportunity to make a legendary. However, this also increases demand for the precursor which has very limited supply

You cannot farm giant eyes. They are an extremely rare world drop (I have got more precursor drops than giant eye drops since release, 2 to 1).

They do come from moldy bags, and I would say you get 0.5 giant eyes per 250 moldy bag stacks.

You are better off farming gold and buying it off the outpost.

As I said, the effort to complete this scavenger hunt really should be difficult and time-consuming enough thakitten would still give players contemplation to purchase it on the outpost for the rate it is right now.

The fact that they have taken months to design it and that there are technical hurdles shows thakitten is going to be completed, and not a simple ‘complete your personal story + other little dungeons like molten alliance’. That’s naive. Everyone would be able to do that and seeing everyone have a legendary will be as repulsive as seeing everyone in Cof armor 1 month after release (seriously, everyone wore that kitten)

No matter what Anet does, there will always be people complaining thakitten will be too easy and too hard.

I hope that if they make it too easy, they release a new ‘tier’ of legendaries with no stat advantage but increased and desirable effects i.e. “Ascended Legendaries”

1 day of cheaper server transfers

Tbh I think the cost to transfer is too little. Needs to be higher, maybe 50% more. Still we hear entire WvW guilds transferring off because they don’t like their current server.

OP I suggest you wait on transfering. There will be a new ranking system in the patch next week and it will most likely adjust your server to an appropriate tier where people will enjoy WvW.

WvW kills better be replaced by some wxp amount, because WvW is not about just killing things. And sPvP tourneys, also better be replaced by some more common and universal hotjoin activity, mb something like “Achieve rank 15+”.

No to guild commendations.
-Not everyone is in a guild.
-Not everyone wants to be in a guild
-Not everyone that is in a guild is in a large enough guild to acquire this.
-Not everyone that is in a large enough guild has the desire to do guild missions at all.
-Not every guild does guild missions, even if they can.

Absolute no to guild commendations. If I dont want to do guild missions, thats how I want to play…i.e. the whole theme of the game. So don’t force me to do that.

I really hope that they make the scavenger difficult and long enough that players will still think that the 600g or so to buy some precursors is a suitable alternative.

i.e. includes:
-10,000 WvW kills
-90 laurels
-50 guild commendations
-dungeon master
-50 SPvP Tourneys

+ a whole list of scavenger item requirements that can only be acquired through beating tough bosses, acquired at different times at the day, and through solo and team work.

Mr. Johanson is being very careful here, indicating only that they “plan to do it” and “have started designing it”. That’s a far cry from beginnig to write code, which probably means not this year.

On the plus side, precursors from WvW chests should put some downward pressure on the TP. Congrats to everyone who sold at 600+ gold, they likely won’t trend up that high again.

I don’t the chance at getting a precursor from a WvW chest will have any significant impact on prices.

I did a lot of precursor generation by simply buying low cost rares 70+ to throw in MF and then sell any exotics produced (I did the math comparing rares/exotics). I had def. success doing this and earned over 5k gold but its a lot of work but its fun when the RNG kicks in and you get multiple high cost precursors in a short time (got 5 Hunters during one weekend and some others as well).

The biggest problem with selling precursors is that the market is pretty slow, the risk is high that you get stuck with a listing that someone undercut and then suddenly before you know it theres 5 dusks ahead of yours and you cant cut and relist due to the high TP fees. I ended up actually selling my stuff to the highest bidder directly as long as it wasnt too low.

I would def. not recommend flipping precursors or even doing it the way I did because the TP is really rough on low cost rares…

Lmao.. no one really believes that. That is why these spots where mobs constantly respawn are ALWAYS shut down eventually. Because it is not the way it was intended for them to work. If it was, they would leave them alone.

OK, that’s a well-thought out event chain.

But put on your dev hat and think about the limitations
-what happens when there are so few people on the map to do such an event chain? They won’t go anywhere and they’ll be stuck farming the same events over and over until there are enough people to complete it
-what happens to low population servers? Nothing will get completed
-what happens when you have a huge zerg? Event completion will be easy and completed soon. And what after if you complete the meta chain? Restart all over and farm faceroll the chain?
-Programming isn’t easy. If you start building a huge event chain with steps and substeps as well as prerequisites, nasty bugs are going to come about which will most likely stall the chain. Yes, “well then they should fix those bugs”. It’s more difficult than it seems and it could take months. There is less risk of content-prohibitive bugs with non-connected events. Go look at how bugged Warmaster Chan escort is and how many events it prevents fom happening (8 by my count, including opening Arah)

How so? It’s so easy to get BIS items and end-game stuff simply by playing – not to mention there are alternatives.

If you want to ‘farm’ yourself to get other items then that’s your choice because you want it faster than others.

But the difference between grinding and farming is that the former is required an the latter is desired. I think you’re mistaking people farming cof or orr events for grinding.

Would be nice if they allowed the 15% to be relocated to the end of the sale.
Example:
I put “The Lover” on the Trading Post
I am charged 0% tax
Once the item is sold or withdrawn you are charged with a 15% tax of the value listed.

Not many people can afford 60-70 gold to list an item… there is nothing breaking the market. Gnashblade still gets his 15% irregardless if the item sells or not. All you are doing is relocating the fee from the front end to the back end.

If there was no consequence to listing something outrageously then prices would be kittened up

Perhaps market manipulation is too broad of a term.

Schemes such as pump and dump are generally frowned upon and fit in with market manipulation. I’m not sure if that is a bannable offense, though.

Manipulation schemes such as buying all supply or faking demand – I really don’t see how that is bannable

Honestly they should be nuked. Its so unfair. Some of us farm the hole day, chewing nails just to grind for a bit of gold. Ofcourse we could also abuse the Auction resources in the mystic forge and make huge amount of gold a day but this is not acceptable. I would like to see them deal with it otherwise im gana just program my own mouse and keyboard to do this, simple as that.

No need to report them here in it’s own thread. Report using the in-game function.

There will always be bots in an MMO. Don’t fret over it or you’ll be angry all the time. You should’ve been here before November. There were so many bots but Arenanet has done a GREAT job handling them. It’s been since November when I last saw a bot in Cursed Shore.

The backlog of chests that will be awarded is going to cause a massive drop in ecto prices initially, with a bounce back to ~17s, where it will stabilize due to the new source of ectos.

That is my estimation at least.

Price will not drop significantly, and this change will more than likely have no effect.

-The chests will not be awarded all at once. If you have a backlog they will be rewarded 2 to 1 for every new rank you get. So extra supply will trickle in rather than be one lump-sum
-Ranks are hard to get. You need to WvW for hours to get a rank. Opportunity cost is missing all the meta events that give you a guaranteed rare where there are plenty of them. I’m 100% sure you will get less rares per hour farming in WvW than farming metaevents
- Not everyone WvW’s
