I play this game for fun and fun for me is farming. They’re nerfing a lot of the farmable spots in this game and it’s the main reason why I haven’t spent anything since December (I’ve spent close to $800 in gems)
I got about 300g in gold and another 800g in investments and I’ve only done cof1 once. I’m a hardcore farmer but that doesn’t mean I spend so much time playing the game.
If you want to earn a lot of gold you need to play smarter, not harder.
An example is in tagging mobs. Back before the february patch, before all the changes to cursed shore, I would see players constantly focus on that one veteran mob while completely ignoring that wave of 8 mobs behind them.
Focusing on the vet and ignoring those mobs is not playing smart.
Another example to play smarter is when it comes to meta event daily chests. Let’s say you only had 3 hours to play a game at the start of your session, you had the opportunity to complete three metaevents occuring at the same time – fire elemental, golem and Jormag. A smart player would realize that Jormag is the best choice since the respawn timer for that is long and you will not have another opportunity to get the dragon, while the fire elemental and golem can pop up several times in the next 3 hours.

Do not waste karma. Karma is ‘easy’ to accumulate but once you spend it, it’s going to take a long time to get it back (and you’re screwed when you need it and have none)
Bad luck. Of course, no one ever posts on the forums whenever they have good luck and get 3 rares from the chest..
Have you considered that this may be because of your connection? I don’t see rampant complaining from SPvP players about high ping.
It’s way too difficult to program a system where the item would be a consumable and would unlock emotes for your character through a simple / command.
It’s just an emote guys. Whether or not its a consumable or a clickable item that activates skills is really just nitpicking.
I hate that zone, not sure why. Probably cause the atmosphere is really depressing and the color of the sky is very sleepy.
People usually help out with the meta event in the northeast. Perhaps you played during off-peak hours.
“1. The precursor market is controlled and rigged externally, either by a person with a lot of time who wants to make a small (IMO) amount of money or a gold farmer outfit with access to cheap labor who wants to do the same. The amount of money they extract (real life money) is pretty small for the irritation they cause the player base (IMO)”
Well that’s a pretty big assumption for one, and you base your argument on it. There is no proof that one person is controlling it, and John Smith has shown previously that there are different unique sellers for one precursor in a 24-48 hr period.
I skimmed through your post cause it’s hard to read – but I do agree that removing posting fees encourages a shorter spread. However, you need to keep in mind that this acts as a gold sink, and one of the game’s best gold sinks.
You remove that and inflation runs rampant.
How is having everything be a gamble a win win situation?
So it’s all good that they are losing players cause of all the constant gambling they throw into everything? Because making that buck is more important than actually having players. Eventually, it all comes around to bite back. Sure you may think it is good for them to keep adding these money wasters to gem store to sucker all the players into buying them, but in the end, they are going to lose players because of these tactics and then no one will be around to buy anything.
Sorry but that doesn’t seem like a winning situation. It’s a way to make players lose faith in a company and leave for pulling such underhanded tactics.
It’s the player’s fault if they think about that, not Arenanet’s. You aren’t forced to get these skins. There are perfectly viable alternatives for these colors. Sure, they may not be the right shade or hue but too bad.
Corporations need to make money and because of GW2’s model they need a way to get it more so than others. Sorry to break it to you but that’s how publicly traded companies (NCSoft) work. Any company that says “We put the customer first” is lying.
They make way more money with this gambling than selling it outright.
And besides, if you don’t want to spend real $, go convert your gold to gems. At least they give you an option.
-Sell everything
-Reroll a warrior or mesmer
-Spend your money on zerk gear
-Run Cof1 with hardcores
-Get your legendary in <2 months
Back when we had the old shelt/pen farm I made enough to get a legendary in 1 1/2 to 2 months. Now with all the nerfs, cof1 is pretty much the only farm you can do to reliably earn money.
3. WvW orbs of power redesign is being looked into
This is funny because originally it was said (I believe Mike Ferguson) that they would be abandoning it and it would never return.
But recently Devon stated that they would look into it.
Just shows that things can always change, and never say never :P

That was talked in feb. Just noticed they had another interview with Witters, Habib and Ferguson and they said that they’re looking into it.

I think you guys need to test it out before judging it. They can always make changes. I’m pretty neutral on it, I don’t see it causing issues but we’ll see.
Thanks for your responses, I’m glad to see people are happy with the game now. I come back from mmorpg.com’s forums and it’s full of “GW2 was a lie” and “GW2 is dead” threads. But hey haters gonna hate I guess XD
I’ll surely hop into the game later today, and since my old Reddit guild dropped me I’ll be looking for another big community-oriented guild. But please no crazy “gotta interview you over the phone and ask you questions about your raiding schedule” kinda guilds hehe
To be honest, don’t take any forum responses seriously, including this one. They’re pretty much one sided. Those who don’t like the game generally are on the forums complaining about it. Those who like the game generally are playing it and don’t bother responding on the forums.
Just take note of people’s thoughts on the forum and try it out in game. It may be better/worse than stated.
For a hardcore farmer (at least 4 hours a day) you can get it in a month and a half
Awesome, I feed on the tears of puzzle farmers >:D
UI changes were requested a long time ago but I believe they said it was too complicated to customize. But who knows, maybe they have been attempting it.
Darn Colin just posted it. Another dev spoke about it here too:
“Hey folks,
It seems we inadvertently outed (some of) our plans for WvW with the linked page. We aren’t quite ready to introduce the World XP changes for WvW in the upcoming content patch as it still needs some tweaking.
We can however officially let you know we are moving the jumping puzzle for EB into it’s own map, as this has been a much requested feature for our beloved siege fairing community.
Apologies for the hicup"
Quick question Colin – are we still able to kill people doing the puzzle? Or is this gonna be a pve area?
Is Southsun a place you can run around by yourself in?
I was there when it opened during the mad rush, which was a lot of fun. I went back after that died down and remember trying to kill some karka thing and it was fairly hard, and hurt me much more than even some of the old Orr mobs. So I left, and haven’t been back.
I really hate karka. They’re the hardest type of mob in game after dredge. The veterans have a huuuuge hit pool and the smaller karka have a pretty painful initial attack.

Too many to list. No one complains about ascended now since it’s easy to get and not game-breaking.
one of the faster guys in getting a legendary made video about the badges required. called them badges of jumping because apparently he couldn’t get them in combat (don’t really know why, by the time he did that video I had over 300 without even trying). so he just did the jumping puzzles.. or rather, created new chars, went to the JP, plundered it, delete the char, created a new one etc..
the jumping puzzle on your homeland should be more or less safe anyway. once each day and within 2-3 months you should be pretty near your goal without ever having to fight an enemy.
I see more problems with t6 mats. starting area mobs scale to keep you challanged even at lvl 80 (well, not really, but that’s the idea), yet they only drop t1 mats. you only get t6 mats in 4 areas afaik (frostgorge, southsun, cursed and malchors), all of which seriously lack in fun content. they’re barren, at best boring at worst constantly annoying.
Yeah I find it hilarious when people think JP badges are the most efficient way. They’re not.
Playing WvW (especially on reset night) and roaming with zergs is the best way to get badges. And now, you can get even more with supAC.
What I find most annoying is having to do a dungeon over and over again. As was suggested above I would also prefer to have to run each Dungeon Story and each path once.
Getting dungeon badges is probably the easiest part.
Also, nice job on the quick solution to culling. I think Habib had a part on that since he left the Wvw team
Nice, early patch, though I wonder if we’ll see another at the end of the month (if we don’t that’s fine)
Interesting to hear about WvW traps, especially the supply drain one. I wonder if we can see it?
Anet makes more money if it’s soulbound. And the pick is more convenience than pay2win, so I don’t think it matters if people complain a whole lot about it. It’s not gamebreaking.
As for creating new nodes, that’s all speculation and most likely at least a year away from consideration. Even if they do create more, it’s a measley $10, which is what, +25g in game? You can get that in under a week. I get that in a day.
You make 25g a day? Are you on all day or just mindless cof farming?
Honestly I’ve only done cof1 once and didn’t like it. Plus, no one like a MF-leeching guardian
I get 25G in about 4-5 hours of gameplay. No TP trading. Just farming.
I don’t see how this an issue or why you thought it’d be suspicious
I spent $800 on this game and I got Dusk on a drop in December.
I stopped paying $$$ since December.
COINCIDENCE?
Comon guys, remove the tinfoils

It’s funny that OP points out that he wants casuals to have a way to make money. Sure, if you do that, then the farmers will make even more (by farming whatever the casuals are doing) and brings us back to the beginning. You’re not going to make a difference. Not to mention the inflation that would occur..
The only way to make a difference is to reward casuals and farmers at the same rate, which is impossible in MMOs and frankly hopeless/pointless
If i don’t want to play a certain dungeon, but want the skin i shouldn’t be forced to play it.
What kind of reasoning is this? Why doesn’t Anet just give you a lvl 80 and a full exotic gear and several legendaries for logging in?
You need to work (play) for your items and if you don’t want to invest the time to work for them then you don’t deserve it
Well your partially right but if anet made new ways to spend ectos or now dumped materials the market wouldn’t be so very disadvantaging for 90% of the people.
I find it a serious problem if a casual player or regular farmer can’t make any money, just because the setting is like that, that most of the materials get almost useless. I think it’s anet’s turn to stop such a fossilization of the market by implementing something that makes it work again.
And no the materials don’t need to fall, BUT there should be viable ways to make money and not just pure randomness.
You are more than likely farming the wrong way if you aren’t making money. There are events out there that can be farmed for +7g an hour. And if you don’t like DR, then do Cof1 farm.
I’m sure they’ll release a big patch for fixes but I don’t expect new content.
We have been spoiled with new content for a B2P game and I think players here are going to complain either way.
I think we have too many currencies in that it is overwhelming for new players. But it comes with a dynamic MMO.
If it’s themed, it’s limited.
Legendaries have lost allure for me. I don’t even bother equipping my 3rd one, FSP and I regret making it since I don’t use it as often as I planned. Would be nice if legendaries were a bit more exclusive and actually rare, but then again many casual players would complain.
The price of limited items usually bottoms out after the restriction is in place. This is because the newbie speculators thought they could make a quick buck by cashing out right after the patch. Unfortunately, that mindset also prevails among other newbies and this results in a huge crash in prices.
It’s also a great time for the master speculators to buy all the underpriced skins.
Your examples mean nothing. Those upgrades were straight from items that didn’t get transmutated.
Transmutating a legendary and then expecting it to be changed later is a complicated programming problem.
How exactly should I feel heroic when the accomplishments that I make are in reach with other players? If you want something to be heroic, I think it has to be rare enough that you feel special. And you can’t design something like that in a game unless you want to kitten off the casuals (like it does with legendaries)
We keep having this question asked (at least a dozen times) but we don’t have a response yet
The fact that they keep coming out with RNG skins from stores shows that it’s working.
MF gear works, you just need a lot of mobs to get a large enough sample size.
MF gear won’t work properly in dungeons or in roaming pve. It would work in farming, like grub farming (RIP) and shelt/pen (RIP)
There used to be a commander named Pup Go that farmed events all over on SoS and had a sizeable zerg along with him. Haven’t seen him on unfortunately ;/
Entrance changes
This setup and an open gate is a much better farm then Cursed Shore
Enemy zergs will walk in and die!
12v50? No problem!
(our lazy guild leader still has to upload the video)
You won’t like it when you realize that there will be no more zergs roaming WvW after they all quit in protest.
Or when you get bored and have to help assault an enemy keep/tower only to get destroyed by those same AC’s you ‘like’
If they sell the sickle and axe at the same time the gem exchange will become outrageous.
I know the goal is to get people to spend RL $ on gems, but I feel at some point even the occasional gem store purchase for gold is going to become out of reach for the average player.
You have to remember though if people are not giving them money they have no money to pay their staff or pay for a building or anything business related.. so if everything you wanted in the game was easy to get with gold then no one would use money. Cannot have the game without them making real life money to pay people making content and things for you to enjoy in the game.
And really most things they add are under 10.00 worth of gems so unless you just go full out crazy then that is less than most subscription games.
Also before you think they get tons from box sells.. just remember ncsoft gets most of that money.. they get their money from the gems store.
Arenanet operates under NCSoft, so NCSoft gets the money no matter what. Money doesn’t get sent to Arenanet’s bank account.
Instead of waiting, how about collecting several guilds and plan with the entire server for a “map wvw completion event”
You know back when the conversion was at 1.4G I thought that it would never go any higher than that.
Now I don’t know what the ceiling can be.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1djssi/upcoming_gemstore_items/
tldr:
lots of new gemstore items, including the unlimited use sickle and harvesting tool, as well as something similar to the mystic forge conduit. Sell your conduits asap
I play WvW every reset but I’m not going to bother playing again until they fix this.
So it’s a list of suggestions rather than annoyances? ;p
Limited time items are meant to convince those who would have purchased those items later (or on the edge of purchasing) to purchase them now.
TBH, they’d get even more money if they made these limited time items tradeable.
