What i dont understand is in what way does it benefit anet/ncsoft at all? I mean one of the most popular zone getting hammered like this will drive ppl off :/ that wont make them buy gems, this is just plain stupid move from them o.O.
It’s simple – less gold for players means they are inclined to get gold from gem converting.
People who farm aren’t going to buy gems. They’ll have enough gold to buy whatever they want.
I’m the perfect example. Spend around $1000 on this game until December. That’s when I started getting efficient in farming and making anywhere from 5g to 8g/h. I haven’t spent a single $ since.
I personally am of the belief that the RNG is constantly manipulated…but on what basis I have no idea. If the odds were the same for every player every time, the inconsistent results that emerge would be statistically completely impossible.
Indeed, such as people claiming they got multiple exotics in less than an hour. Not saying its impossible… But that’s impossible. Seriously, normal mortals are lucky if they see one random exotic drop in a week even when farming. Yet here they apparently drop like candy… for some people.
GW2 is the most random I know of. Nothing make sense when it comes to loot.
I’ve got 3 in one hour, and that wasn’t even in Southsun.
The thing with southsun is that the exotic drop rate of settler’s items is way higher than your typical exotic. Take a look at the prices, that also reflects this.
What you may think of raiding may be completely different than what they consider raiding
Everyone loves to hate on CEOs for some reason..
I would reason to say that’s b/c once a company gets to the level where a CEO is needed that company becomes more based around profits and efficiency than anything else. That includes not benefiting employees if it comes in any conflict with maximizing profits. While an employees might not receive a bonus on which they rely in slow times (or even laid off), you can bet your bottom dollar the CEO will get a large one, that tbh they don’t really need. Ofc there are exceptions, but for the most part…business as usual.
Nearly every company out there, public or private operates on the notion of self-sustainability. No company out there is going to put itself in a position that would threaten it’s existence – even non-profits.
That’s the job of the CEO. That may mean having to make necessary cutbacks and uncomfortable decisions, but he has to make the call. Money is priority.
Just because a CEO doesn’t need a bonus doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be rewarded with it. More than likely that bonus was negotiated into the contract upon employment. After all, if you are in high-demand for your skills and expertise, wouldn’t it make sense to ask the most out of a company? I’m sure everyone would want a CEO to be awarded stock options instead of bonuses, but if you are talented enough, you will get what you want.
Anyways, I’m rambling off-topic.
TP traders are legit.
What has happened to Plinx? He was never just a coin machine for me, I enjoyed his personality.
He was never really a coin machine, more like a karma dispenser. But he got nerfed around November.
They really should provide you with a token after each attempt
i.e.
open a crate, get a token
get 30 tokens, you get 1 ticket
That way if you are unlucky enough to get 30 misses, you still are rewarded.
And if you end up with 15 tries with a ticket, you still have 15 tokens left over! And you might even be tempted to spend for 15 more crates!
You know, I thought the fact that you can acquire these items without gambling through the BLTC would stop the complaining..
Boy, how naive I’am.
Wait for the southsun event to end, and also for the first couple of days of the Dragonbash festival to pass and some people will be returning to Orr.
The thing is, I don’t think the majority of the playerbase realizes they doubled the event timers for shelt/pen
Felt it like a brick to the face :P Luckily I toned down my event farming there or I’d probably be more annoyed about it. Still, couldn’t hurt to let us have our penshelterygoodness back after SS is over.
I’d love it too, but I’m betting 1000g against it :P (on sacs/totems)
(edited by Vol.5241)
Oh yeah, map exploration is definitely interesting. Unfortunately I’ve done it 3 times so that’s now out of the question for me ;/
I still need to finish up on story line achievements, so I’m rolling other characters in the meantime.
After that is done, I don’t know what the hell I’m going to do.
Wait for the southsun event to end, and also for the first couple of days of the Dragonbash festival to pass and some people will be returning to Orr.
The thing is, I don’t think the majority of the playerbase realizes they doubled the event timers for shelt/pen
I personally can’t do it. It’s not efficient and very boring. I’d rather do the extremely efficient and boring cof1 farm.
I was farming it in Orr before the changes and I used different characters when DR hit. I have never seen the kind of returns you have. Even when the place had the ’sweet-spot number of people farming the event and I was grouped up with a full party. I applaud your ability but it would seem that even if I were to replicate your methods I would find it difficult to see the same rewards.
Vol you are probably one of the most affluent in game. I have read your posts and advice in the past. I take what you say very seriously. Between you and Geotherma, I am amazed and jealous. I had to find a different way to make gold for whatever reason I can’t do as well as others.
Recently I took a new level 80 to Cursed shore and though I received a lot of loot, the majority was porous bones and a few blues. I left it parked there and tried two more times in 30min sessions. After the patch I saw some greens, a rare, 2 T6 mats, and multiple T5 mats. This reset phenomena has happened to me on multiple occasions. Yet, that’s just me and my miniscule sample size. Maybe my skills are awful and this game isn’t for me. I prefer to think I just have bad luck.
The key to farming is not time invested or MF gear. Those are helpful supplements. The key is tagging as many mobs as you can. When shelt/pen was the craze, numerous times I’d see players beat on one lonely veteran while ignoring those dozen mobs behind him. 1 veteran, let alone 1 champion will more than likely not provide as much reward as those dozens of mobs. And those dozen of mobs gives you a dozen more chances for loot.
Here was my strategy. If I see a wave of mobs, I’d prioritize them. I’d also tilt my camera behind me just incase a second wave spawns. If they do, I teleport (I’m a guardian) to that other wave and tag them as well. If I see a veteran/champion, I ignore it until it’s nearly dead. If there’s any downtime with no other waves, then I beat on it long enough to get credit (no more than 10 seconds). Repeat this for the whole event and you get a ton of loot.
If you want to farm, the best event right now is Southsun @ driftglass. There are tons of karka here that can be farmed every 10 minutes, whether you complete or fail the event, but you need a sizeable zerg with you. Some classes are better than others at tagging, but the absolute best is Guardian. No other class has the tagging ability, mobility and survivability of the Guardian. Unfortunately if you’re a class like mesmer then you’re probably not going to have a good chance at loot. Might want to consider rerolling :P

I would have to disagree. If we had a dragon event (which is no different than a meta event and we already have 6 in orr zones) it would only attract players there for the time it was up.
If you really want people to play in Cursed Shore…Anet needs to rollback all these farming nerfs and bring back shelt/pen + plinx.
It’s highly traded which means it has a high volume of transactions. Doesn’t necessary mean people are buying it a whole lot. Could also mean a lot of people are selling them.
And I do get them more often than other runes.
But yes, there is a demand for gambling on runes.
So combine steady demand for the cheapest runes + highest supply of the sigil of air rune = top traded item.
And 2.9s is a good bet. If you end up with Rune of Divinity…
I agree, there should be something out there that you can show off to say “check me out, i accomplished X and it was hard.”
The problem is that if Anet introduces items like that (as opposed to titles) you’re gonna see tons of QQ from people whining about how it’s unfair and Anet is catering to the elites and that they want it too and why are you excluding PvPers, etc etc etc.
Which isn’t a reason not to do it, just saying what’s gonna happen if they do.
Yeah it’s incredibly difficult designing ‘skillful’ content. You have so much variety in this game in weapons and classes, it’s only natural that certain classes will succeed better than others. If you make it ‘group skill’, then certain group set-ups will be better than others.
If you make ‘skillful’ content all about player movements, such as jumping puzzles, you will have certain people who are incapable of reacting and making precision moves.
Either way, there will be people who feel it is unfair and will most likely rage about it on the forums.
You can’t have ‘skill’, ‘reward’ and ‘MMO’ in the same sentence without a whole lot of raging going on.
I don’t know if this applies to dust in particular but I have been very curious lately about RNG.
If the dev’s in fact control the resources available in the game, how do they control the amount of resources if RNG determines what we all receive. We all know that RNG is much kinder when there is a server restart. So with this in mind, I wondered. RNG can truly swing in any direction. With a million players trying for a precursor what would stop 1000 of them dropping in a day? Is there true RNG until a cap has been reached? How could they insure that precursors remain rare if RNG could technically cause none to drop for days or for them to rain for days.
So I did say that this doesn’t necessarily apply to dusts but in reality it could. Are there caps on mats, precursors, exotics, and anything else considered rare such as fractal weapon skins. If a threshold has been reached via an internal loot drop count, do they stop dropping or the frequency diminish?
For me, loot has never come easy even with an alt warrior lvl 80 decked out in bezerker + MF gear. I will only see an exotic drop (6 total not counting old Karka event or mini reef rider) when we have reset but even rares are still rare. I won’t complain because I have learned that the best way to make money for me is assured via the TP. I still don’t have much <100G but the last 40G was purely from the TP.
I want to be able to farm my own mats for crafting gear or a legendary. I want to feel self reliant and not bound to buying everything because it’s cheaper with gold. It’s not the reality and so I am educating myself on how to make enough profit to someday afford what others seem to get by ‘just playing the game’.I see people like Geotherma and die a little inside because no matter how hard I try to replicate their luck, I can not. And believe me I have tried. The only thing I don’t do atm is farm CoF.
It may be that I have a weird account that is only ‘normal’ after server reset. I don’t know. I am just going with what I have and making a little bit of money via TP while I play with the guild or run around helping low level chars. <— while I play the way I want to and have fun.
We don’t know the backbone of how item drops work. We don’t know if there is a cap of # of items per week (more than likely not) or if there is a fixed % drop rate.
I lean towards the latter. Each item in the game can be rolled and has a % drop rate. Precursors could be 0.05%, t6 dust can be 3%, moldy bags 10%, e.t.c.
I don’t know what evidence/experience you have to state that RNG is better after restart. RNG is RNG. Except when we have DR, which at that point we don’t receive anything at all. But from my experience, DR does not go away on reset.
Look at my sig. That’s all my exotic drops from mobs since January. That’s in full MF gear ranging from at least 160%. You will also notice many of those exotics are from farming events. You are most likely not getting any exotics because you are aren’t farming enough mobs to increase your odds. The more rolls you have, the more chances.
if you make content exclusive to ‘skilled’ players then I’m afraid you’d have a bunch of casuals complaining here.
You already have that with casuals who want a legendary handed to them – just imagine if there was something better than that?
Yeah Southsun right now is still good for farming, perhaps even after the MF buff is gone.
Instigators are gone, skelk are gone, but the driftglass event right now spawns a huge ton of mobs (even when the event fails). It’s great that it’s on a short-timer too, at under 10 minutes. The only problem is that the karka are very powerful (since they have the enraged buff) and you need a sizeable zerg to farm it.
I can see people farming it after the event is over since there are no better alternatives…but expect it to be nerfed by Anet.
Hey all!
I honestly havn’t red much.
But I started searching Orr a little. My results are:- The Megill-Event and the Maggots still reward a lot Heavy Bags. I soloed the event in around 10 Minutes without MF and got 10.
-Risen Spiders reward T6-Dust. And the drop rates are totally okay. I killed some here and there for random, and got the one and the other Pile of t6 Dust.
So, if people would start farming orr again, maybe prices will drop again soon.
Regarding the maggots event, that’s the only Orr farming event left that is untouched. It’s been like that since release, and was one of the first farmable events that people noted (since the respawn timer was <5 minutes). Unfortunately it’s pretty easy to grief, and it’s farming potential is best limited to a coordinated party. You can’t zerg it. And you most likely have to guest on that.
I don’t forsee anyone farming in Orr anytime soon. I reckon the majority of the playerbase does not want to farm mobs alone – they’d prefer to farm events which provide waves of mobs. And there simply aren’t enough spiders in the zone to increase the supply of dusts at a decent rate.
I’m telling you all – the price of dusts is going to go up a lot unless there is intervention by the devs. If nothing changes, the price of dust will go up in under 2 months (I’m guessing in 1 month). At that point, the true supply (outpost supply + inventory supply) will go down. The dust price right now is only low since speculators are selling their stock.
It’s no different in real life when the average person complains about bankers/CEOs making millions, or when a corporation turns a profit. They’re just jealous that they don’t make that much money and instead of doing something about it, they just complain.
Or it could be that people just generally dislike greedy parasites who try to make money off the hard work of others and don’t produce or contribute anything to society themselves.
Hey you can’t blame certain people for exploiting the stupidity of others. Those so-called parasites only exist because people don’t know how to handle their money. Furthermore, a whole lot of those people you brand as greedy parasites actually contribute a lot to society, and are justly rewarded for it. A CEO giving a job to several thousand people has a honest right to earn a few million euros a year.
In-game it’s just because people don’t take the time and effort to properly price their goods on the TP. There’s intelligent people combing the gold that’s being wasted on the TP. I can’t and won’t blame them. Take this bag thing for example. Someone has to buy them and convert them into materials. If this “flipper” didn’t buy them, there’d be millions of bags sitting there at vendor price, which would be stupid. On the other hand, material prices would be through the roof which is equally silly. People selling bags are effectively paying flippers to convert those into materials. As such, they provide a valuable service to bag sellers and material buyers.
Everyone loves to hate on CEOs for some reason. Sure, there can be pretty bad ones, but they are paid millions for a reason. More often than not they have the vision and expertise to oversee the operations of a company in their industry. They have to be properly compensated, otherwise you risk having an incompetent person at the helm who could more than likely destroy the company (and result in layoffs as well)
In GW2 terms, people who play the TP aren’t exploiting people and scamming anyone. They are reacting to game/economy changes and making money off that. More than often this is about smarts, with a little bit of luck. People who hate on them are just jealous that they will never have the time or the mental/time capacity to take advantage of such a situation.
I thought Snowcrash was a former dev – he’s no longer employed?
You know what the best bit is? Veteran spider hatchlings don’t even drop loot. So those 20 hatchlings you had to slowly kill thanks to scaled up HP drop you absolutely zero loot.
Heck, they don’t even give XP!
This problem started when they expanded the upscaled events a little more than a month ago.
I think it was intentional that they didn’t want them to drop loot. This affects all spiders in all zones, and spiders were the big reason why shelter’s gate was a great farm. Spiders, just like wraiths are the only reliable lvl 80 mobs that drop t6 dust.
Is it a coincidence that they nerfed both wraiths and spiders? Nope
GW2 is a game that does not reward effort. It used to, but not anymore.
I would like have liked the GW2 we had up until January. That’s when they started with all these nerfs and anti-farm initiatives.
I’m investing 2/3 of what I have (investing in Totems and Sacs at the moment)
I already have all that I want in game. Multiple legendaries, multiple 80s, BIS gear, e.t.c.
So I’m investing the majority of the gold I make and keeping the rest as an emergency fund.
1.) Many players are gonna head over here making it hard to farm
2.) It’ll get nerfed now that it’s known
See signature
but MF is not worth it anymore. It was worth it before.
I ignore them. It’s the same type of person who compares farmers with exploiters/bots.
Generally these people are just jealous that they’re not bright enough to make gold. So they want to bring you down to their level and share misery.
It’s no different in real life when the average person complains about bankers/CEOs making millions, or when a corporation turns a profit. They’re just jealous that they don’t make that much money and instead of doing something about it, they just complain.
I enjoy farming, but I can see why it’s bad for the game’s economy.
Bit off topic – I swear, enemy npc’s tethers are so small when I try to herd, but when I’m just running past, they go on for ages >.>
IKR? Shame on players who want to play more than others
flipping? IRL? what are those
flipping – outpost activity by buying low and selling high for profit
IRL – in real life
I don’t mean anything like completely revamp all 3 borderlands or anything just make it feel more like you really are defending your own home country or invading another country. If I was working in Anet I would have suggested something like to get to a borderland that is not of your servers you and a group of people have to fight to make it into the map through a bridge connecting all 3 borderlands instead of just spawning in there and if you make it in you fight to secure a base or something.
That would be incredibly difficult and lagalicious. There is a reason why there are four separate WvW maps, as well as different zones for PvE.
Only reason why I’m attached to my character is because all my legendaries are soulbound to him.
If I could have account bound legendaries I’d ditch him.
Really now, the gold to gem is awful and this spike made it even more awful completely ruining any chance to have a 20% discount. It just makes no sense.
The 20% discount isn’t meant for people who convert gold to gems. It’s meant for players who want to spend real $.
I highly dobut a character slot would generate such a spike.
I myself bought 3.
We also had a huge spike the last time we had this sale early on in the year.
GW1 is not an MMO so be careful :|
What caused it? No new items in the gem store.
http://www.gw2spidy.com/gem
Character slot is on sale.
Yeah Fia has been bugged since release. After every reset she works for a few days but something happens and she doesn’t work until the next reset.
I’ll buy it. I didn’t buy the harvesting tool since I don’t harvest those nodes often anyways.
It’s only a matter of time before the speculator’s stash, which is now being dumped on the TP, gets run out. It’s going to run out, just like how armored scales ran out after a few months.
The average player must hope that they patch the drop rate before it runs out.
Last night I’ve put in 50 buy orders for that sentinel inscription @ 8.5g a piece.
Supply is dangerously low and it’s not coming back from what I can tell – I just hope the price will go up to a point where it’s reasonable for a buyer and profitable for me.
Go lvl an alt up to 80
Make it a goal to get all 5 races to 80 and 8 classes to 80.
PvP – generally titles
PvE – it’s a crapshoot really. But the one thing I look for is achievement points since that’s the closest thing. If I see a lvl 80 with 3000 achievement points vs. one with 800 points, I’ll take the former. If you can’t see that, then armor set.
If the guy has a full Arah set, he’s good (Arah is the ‘hardest’ dungeon)
You can’t put legendaries in the forge. It does not show up as an option and you cannot drag them in.
The only legendaries you can put in are Sunrise and Twilight – combining both gives you Eternity.
/case closed
In it’s current state, the Karka Queen is not worth the time and effort for measley rewards.
Yes, it’s nice that it has two guaranteed rares. But in that time you could have finished other easier and quick meta events, such as golem, maw and FE.
Karka Queen is not worth it because:
-You need a lot of players to keep all settlements uncontested since karka are very difficult to kill and hit hard (especially @ Camp Karka with the veteran and champ)
-Settlements are quick to go contested, so by the time you take the 4th camp with a small group, the 1st camp will flip
Thers a simple explantion to this nerfs, Anet is lazy so instead of taking the time to find the boters on CS that farmed events they just nerf the event and kitten on the rest of the players that found fun in farming these.
Not only that
Anet also doesn’t want players to be wealthy with in-game gold since that discourages the conversion of gems to gold, rewarding Anet with less money. Hardcore players (i.e. farmers who play for hours) aren’t profitable for Arenanet. Casual players are more than likely to spend real $, and by removing all avenues of getting a good amount of gold they’ll be able to squeeze more money out of them.
Welcome to the club bro. I’ve been complaining about this ever since they started to make that first shelt/pen change of introducing champs.
Since then they have removed loot from spiders (hence why dust is so expensive, among other reasons) and increased the respawn timer.
There really isn’t anything for you to farm anymore other than cof1 and meta event chests.
Which is a real shame because this game was going great up until January. Lots of my friends have quit or don’t log in as frequently because of these nerfs (we are primarily farmers)
They might lock this thread since it’s not only about GW2 :|
I’m pretty anti-farming, and find it hard to understand people who claim to enjoy such a monotonous activity.
But there’s one thing that has perplexed me about ArenaNet’s implementation of DR in GW2.Ostensibly, it was implemented as an anti-bot mechanism.
But if that was the case, why does ANYTHING drop once DR kicks in?
The porous bones that drop once DR kicks in may not be worth as much as T6 materials, but they can still be sold by farm bots, which then results in them selling gold for cash.In effect, by implementing this cack-handed form of drop reduction, ArenaNet are driving their players into the arms of gold sellers.
Some people find it relaxing not having to worry about anything or stress on having to react all the time.
Go look at something like lvl 40 fractals where it’s very stressful – you need to pay attention at all times and make sure you are accurate to the second.
While farming is stress free since the zerg keeps you alive.
This discussion makes no sense and we shouldn’t quibble over the semantics. Lets find something more productive to spend our thought cycles on.
I’d ask you about dust but I know you can’t say anything since it would shock the market ;x
I don’t think they were ever intended to be regular. They are here on the forums, anyway.
Question about the skelk bug, was the bugged spawn underwater, or was it throughout the entire region where skelk spawned? (On land and underwater)
I made a video of myself farming skelk on land before the southsun events started, and it didn’t seem that bad, this may be because I wasn’t gathering them and aoeing them down.
The bug was prevalent in the southeast, underwater.
You’d have 5-10 skelks spawn on the same spot over time. there were probably half a dozen spots around this area.
The thing though – I didnt’ actively farm those areas until later on. The skelks on the shoreline itself were pretty good. They weren’t spawning in large quantities but it seemed like they had a 80% drop rate of loot (more than usual).
Of course, after the patch, they not only nerfed the skelks in the water (deservedly so) but they also nerfed the drop rate of the skelks.
