The best way to fix this is to operate on a system that rewards failures so that if you are unlucky enough to fail on rolls, you get rewarded in the end.

Here is how the system works. Typically, you get a ticket from the chest that you can exchange for a skin. Let’s say 1 Fused ticket can be exchanged for 1 skin.

Well let’s say that you open a chest and you don’t get a ticket. Instead, you are given a token. You continue to open several more chests, and all of them failed, but you still get tokens. For each fail, you get 1 token.

Now Arenanet can set a predetermined number of tokens that you can exchange for a ticket.

We can set that at 30 – meaning, if you fail at RNG enough that you have failed 30 times, you should have 30 tokens and you shall be able to exchange those 30 tokens for 1 ticket.

The great thing about this is that this can even entice players to spend even more on the shop. For example, let’s say that I open 15 chests. 14 of those failed, so I have 14 tokens, but the 15th one gave me a ticket to exchange. Hurray!

But now I have 14 tokens left, so it’d be a waste to just have them lying around. I should try and open 16 more tokens so that I could buy another skin that I wouldn’t have went for otherwise!

What prompted you to decide to shift the supply curve rather than movement on the curve? Perhaps it was easier to implement this fix as a shift?

Looking at it, the ecto fix was brilliant and efficient. It served two different items and would be a relatively easy programming task.

But a movement on the curve would have to raise/drop the price of dust, and that I think would be complicated. For one, you have to figure out how to adjust the price of dust – change recipes? Increase drop rate? e.t.c.

You gambled and loss. I’ve spent over 700g gambling.

If the item costs around 500g, then expect to lose if you invest anything below that

gw2spidy shows a sudden decrease in supply in a short time frame, so more than likely they got taken down by sellers.

I don’t suggest putting out that skin just yet. It’s a seller’s market but we don’t know what the price can be. Just wait for the buy orders to shoot up.

Failed events happen all the time. If something fails, more often than not the NPC’s go away to regroup and the event restarts at a later time.

Other times, failed events revert to the previous event in a chain.

i.e. failing to hold Arah gates opens up the defense of anchorage chain, which will end up with the assault of Arah.

I think dulfy gets more angry when we all unintentionally DDOS her site after each update/GM reset rather than killing her in fractals ;/

Either way, this revolves around minipets so I doubt that even if this is considered an ‘exploit’, it’s not harmful to the game.

While i am excited for private PVP servers like the next person, is there plans down the road for private mini game servers ? I would love to host a dragon ball tournament for my guild and things like that.

If they were to have something like this, there would have to be no rewards from the game itself. Rather, the rewards would have to be externally provided by players/guilds.

The reason why we have random match-ups is to prevent fixing matches. People would sabotage the game and could constantly farm winnings.

I’m still clueless here.

Whenever you invest/speculate you need to understand that there are risks. That’s the whole point about investing.

It’s only really Charged Lodestones that are too pricey at the moment and too difficult to acquire that really needs to be address IMO, especially considering some exotic weapons (that’s exotic, not legendary!) need 250 or even 350 of them, but I certainly wouldn’t be against other ways to acquire the other lodestones too without hurting their market value too much.

Also, kudos on the dust change. It was a great idea.
Ectos have been a little too low in value for a while (they seemed fairer when their price was stable at 30s~ than they did at 18s~), so this is a solid way to bring their value back up to roughly what it should be.
Likewise, Dust price has been climbing way too much since the thoughtless changes Anet made to the mobs that dropped them. First changing the mobs that you are supposed to farm for Dust drop charts to drop the Loot Bags usually instead, which only had a chance at dust among many other materials, removing any dedicated place to farm Crystalline Dust outside of red-team WvW, despite the fact all the other T6 mats had specific drop locations you could farm them. And then further changes to Orr without regard for Dust that made the mobs harder to kill, and the events less rewarding, reducing the supply even more.
As a result I had been anticipating the price of dust would rocket out of control for a long while, and it seems I was right (too bad I didn’t invest early cus I don’t care much for playing the market heh). This salvage change to Ectos is a nice well needed change that helps address the issues they created with Dust well.

I just hope now Anet have learned from there mistakes with dust supply and will think through changes like the ones we saw to Orr over the monthes more in the future before implimentation next time.

They are expensive because they are largely driven by demand. And they are easy to acquire. There are several places to get them, from COE, to the sparks around Lyssa, Dwayna, and north of Caer.

I don’t know, have you checked the karka queen meta chain? Tons of reef riders which drop loot pop during those events in squads of ~8-12 depending on the number of players. The last time I did the meta chain I got something like 24 venom sacs for little effort. Granted, this was with a free 200% MF, so who knows what it’ll look like now.

Yeah, i’ve been farming it too but I usually stick to the karka side so I get bloods.

We would have to assume that:
-mobs in southsun lose their enraged buff
-events in southsun stay as it is (remember how they removed the instigator event as the story moved along?)

Either way, I still don’t see it as being as rewarding as shelt/pen has ever been.

Agree. But with the INSANE amount of negative publicity they had to make a change. It looks like its a 1:2 ratio so far so the next week should be interesting to see where the prices end up. I think ectos and dust will do the exact opposite, up/down first and then down/up later. People will hit meta events hard for both globs and dust, it will take a little while for the supplies to level out.

Lol why totems/venom sacs? Just ignoring the fact you have 1kG to throw around..

T5s should go up though, which is nice.

Totems I’m going off on history. I remember it was one of the few T6 mats (other than Blood) that went as high as 28s. I was hoping it’d go up to at least 22s.

Sacs are a supply issue. They only drop off of wraiths, spiders and ghosts, the latter only in WvW.

You do need to consider that significantly cheaper T6 dust prices makes the up-convert recipe for the other T6 materials more meaningful. I wouldn’t be surprised to see other T6 go down slightly in response to Dust going down.

I have no objection to CEO’s or similar high level executives getting paid well for what they do. I just feel that there is a certain point where the amount of remuneration starts to get excessive. Say you make $3,000,000 a year. Seriously, what on earth are you going to DO with that kind of money? Spend it on private jets? Buy cars as presents for your friends? There comes a point where people start spending money just because they have nothing better to do with it.

Well I honestly don’t think anyone out there is worth that much money, except for presidents/prime ministers as well as the ministers who handle banking/economy.

But in spirit of the BLTC, everything revolves around supply/demand.

Companies are always in the hunt for top talent, and those that are publicly traded are willing to pay top dollar for it. Demand of talented people is always high (they can fill CEO-candidates in director or VP positions) while the supply is very low. Is he worth it? No. But companies are willing to overpay.

A great example is in sports – specifically, a MLB player named Vernon Wells. He signed a massive contract and immediately after he played like kitten. People hated on him and booed him mercilessly. But he never complained and always showed up to work and gave his effort. But he did something no other big-name player did. He himself admitted that he wasn’t worth the hundreds of millions that he signed for. But he also said that if someone offers you that much money, you’re stupid to not take it.

I’m sure that if anyone here were offered millions to work as a CEO, of say, Monsanto (the most evil company in existence), they’d take it

Everyone loves to hate on CEOs for some reason..

I would reason to say that’s b/c once a company gets to the level where a CEO is needed that company becomes more based around profits and efficiency than anything else. That includes not benefiting employees if it comes in any conflict with maximizing profits. While an employees might not receive a bonus on which they rely in slow times (or even laid off), you can bet your bottom dollar the CEO will get a large one, that tbh they don’t really need. Ofc there are exceptions, but for the most part…business as usual.

Nearly every company out there, public or private operates on the notion of self-sustainability. No company out there is going to put itself in a position that would threaten it’s existence – even non-profits.

That’s the job of the CEO. That may mean having to make necessary cutbacks and uncomfortable decisions, but he has to make the call. Money is priority.

Just because a CEO doesn’t need a bonus doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be rewarded with it. More than likely that bonus was negotiated into the contract upon employment. After all, if you are in high-demand for your skills and expertise, wouldn’t it make sense to ask the most out of a company? I’m sure everyone would want a CEO to be awarded stock options instead of bonuses, but if you are talented enough, you will get what you want.

Anyways, I’m rambling off-topic.

If you look at the core of what jobs are….of what businesses are….they are ways of producing a means to obtain things one cannot or do not want to achieve themselves due to many number of reasons. They exist to provide for people not the other way around. Once a job or a business puts itself above providing for those that enable it….it becomes at the fundamental level, flawed.

Yes, I have a moral objection to CEO’s getting massive bonuses while multitudes of lower level employees are being laid off due to economic lulls. Even if I were as short sighted, I still wouldn’t give myself desert while my kids go hungry. I simply couldn’t handle knowing I took more (when I didn’t need) when others were denied due to lack of what I took.

As mentioned previously, these bonuses more often negotiated before hand, often for meeting certain metrics, such as reducing overhead by 5%, raising seasonal sales (or even reducing losses). If you had a clause in your contract that rewarded you money – why in the hell would you refuse it? Yes I agree with you, it looks unfair that people get laid off but the higher-up’s make money. But it was a clause negotiated before hand. You’re throwing way thousands of dollars just so that you can look good in front of the public?

That’s one of my concerns as well.

You’re gonna have new players coming in every day, and they’re gonna see veteran players in t3 cultural set and multiple legendaries. And they’ll be like, “Oh wow, I can’t wait to get one of those” But they won’t realize that they were able to afford them because they were around for farming.

Now, no new player will be available to get that end-game gear without buying gems. And that’s apparently how Anet wants it to be.

I wanted to get two Infinite Light’s but there just isn’t any class that will use both of them frequently. Only Mesmer and Warrior can dual wield them and they’re not all that great.

Same thing with Mjolnir.

Now if there was a skin similar to Mjolnir/Infinite Light for, say, staff or GS – I’d definitely get it.
