If you aren’t willing to put in the effort, time, blood sweat and tears..

Then you don’t deserve those achievement points. It’s as simple as that.

That’s why they’re called achievements. You dedicated yourself to achieving whatever it wanted you to.

Want Diving Master? Sure, then you’re going to have to do both the easy and difficult content to get it

Alternate way to get a Precursor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Vol.5241

Vol.5241

“This would give a way for each character to have a chance to earn one precursor without seriously effecting the precursor market that would be skill based. If Anet were to do something like this, I would like the different paths to earn the Orbs to be very challenging to give a sense of accomplishment and to make it something earned and not just given to the player.”

You need to ask yourself this..

is this alternative difficult enough that it still keeps people purchasing the precursor off the TP as a viable option? If not, then it’s going to severely impact the precursor market.

Skill in MMOs is non-existent. And even if it were exist, the devs would have a hard time balancing skills, classes and weapons to give every player with similar skillsets an equal chance. You’d suddenly have people going to zerk parties to quickly roll through content, while your friendly neighborhood guardian or necro struggles.

I do like how your idea connects the story with Legendaries. That’s one thing that Anet could have implemented.

Nice assumption. Ill revisit if your wrong. You just validated the fact that they leave us to predict what they are going to do next and its quite tiring with people that want to keep up but have jobs and busy lives.

If I’m wrong that would probably be the least of your concern, or mine.

Anet would have a kittenstorm on their hands.

You missed the point of the post. If it hits 1mil on july 20th i wont be around. So anyone who doesnt log in on july 20th misses it? Vague explainations of things are something businesses typically avoid but anets pretty good at it

They wouldn’t punish people like that.

The expectation is that they would filter all active accounts that were created before X date and they would reward it to them

A google search shows that you can craft the consumable one, and the only mention for the endless one is from some gold/bot site.

My theory is that someone inadvertently got it through a bug or discovered a new recipe.

But if there were a secret recipe to acquire it, the one person who found it out would have made several more in his monopoly, right?

GW2spidy doesn’t have any historical data on this since it was listed for the first time yesterday.

Will i have to log on the day they hit 1 mil or i just have to log in once in july. kitten they beat around the bush way too often and obviously didnt learn with personal space. Im an achievement hunter hence this post.

Uhh I’m pretty sure they will mail you the items rather than have you wait Lion’s Arch.

By all means complain about Anet but at least have some good reason to it. kittening that they’re ‘vague’ isn’t just good enough.

GW2 unlikely to get expansions [Interview]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Vol.5241

Vol.5241

I actually think that GW2 players are very, very spoiled.

Sure, there are problems in this game that need to be addressed, as all games have. But we still have it pretty good.

The issue with MMORPGs is that people are too used to mediocre content.

“All quests are kill ten rats quests? That’s pretty good.”

“We have to wait in line to kill a boss? That’s pretty good.”

“The storyline is a mess that everyone skips? That’s pretty good.”

“Raids are just RNG lotteries so maybe one person in a group of 40 will get the gear we want? That’s pretty good.”

The result is what we see today in GW2. The players looking for great, fun content are not that common around here. Farmers, grinders, addicts and exploiters (who are all more or less the same thing, anyway), in other hand, dominate this community – which makes sense, since they are more concerned about grinding than about the content itself. It’s easy to then look at any piece of content, even if (actually, especially if) it’s just a mindless and easy grind, and say “it’s pretty good”. Unfortunatelly, as long as this kind of player is around, MMORPGs won’t be pressured to be anything more than the Korean grind cesspool they have ever been.

As a farmer, I’m insulted by your insinuation and challenge you to a duel.

Dragon coffers worth investing gold in?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Vol.5241

Vol.5241

I’ve always stuck with the principle that temporary content is very rarely a bad investment. Still, you can’t pick everything. The question is more specifically: how good is the Dragon Coffer as an investment relative to other temporary items?

For example, after the Halloween event, I could’ve told you that Candy Corn would eventually increase in price. It could be bought for 2c a piece, and now it’s 10, a 5x increase! But it’s a terrible, terrible investment. You could’ve flooded your entire mule’s inventory with it, and not made a significant amount of gold.

It’s part of the same reason i’m skeptical of coffers. I’d rate the unit profit ceiling at ~4x, or 1s -> 4s, and it costs 1 slot to store ~2.5g of coffers. It would take 50 slots to store 125g. In this hypothetical scenario, profit cap based on my estimate is ~375g (-15%) , in exchange for 50 slots @ ~several months storage, minimum.

Meh. Not the best choice, though not the worst thing you could do, and again these are just crude assessments. If nothing else i’ll reiterate the fact that this is relatively safe. In my opinion there are just better ways to store X amount of gold for the same profit ceiling, and far less slot utilization.

Hope this helps.

Bank space is only a minor issue. The more pressing concern is tying up your invested gold in a commodity that would take awhile to increase high enough to profit.

I have enough gold on hand to throw 200g at coffers and still have enough left to invest in other opportunities.

I wouldn’t suggest in investing in coffers for players who are new or for those who simply can’t afford or risk to invest a lot of gold.

I absolutely miss it and the community. Made lots of friends. Invested $5,000 in that game.

Looking outside in I just don’t see why people would ever play that (or even spend as much as I did). Terrible graphics, no-end game, lots of griefing and Pay-2-Win cash shop.

But my first exposure to an MMO environment was magical and I’d kill to go back and experience it all again.

You can’t tell me that all accounts have 100% RNG integrity, when one person gets 7 precursors in just a few weeks. That would be like going to Vegas for a two week vacation and hitting the jackpot on progressive slots 7 times. I know random is random, but this doesn’t make sense.

Don’t get me wrong, congrats to zBluRrYz….you’re the luckiest GW2 player alive.

Not a great analogy there.

It’s like someone going to the slots and dropping $10,000 on the $5 slots.

The more money you invest the more opportunities to have rolls than the guy who only drops $100 on the $5 slots and expects to win.

I take that as very bad news. So basically, the game is finished? The living story updates have so far been a little lacking, mostly veiled attempts to get the players to go back to older content that they have already completed. If no expansions are planned I don’t really see any future for the game as the living story is not going to carry it unless they make some major improvements to what they have been releasing so far.

Read the link dude. There is a whole bunch of other people/teams working behind the scenes that have no part with the current Living Story team right now, but that content could be pushed in as Living Story content.

And that makes a difference how? Still the same people/teams who have been doing the content up to now, so why do you believe the same people doing the same thing the same way will make it different?

The people are the same but the teams are not. If you work in a corporate/team environment you know that different teams can come up with different ideas and have different ‘synergy’

So they are breaking down the teams and reforming them with different devs? Where did it say that? I must have missed it if it was anywhere in that article.

I don’t have a source with me (it could have been a dev post here or a 3rd party site) but it mentioned that they learned from the mistakes of the Southsun event back in November and have readjusted their team so that they can start pumping out content every 2 weeks.

I personally don’t notice any more exotics from metaevent farming, especially since MF does not affect chests.

I’m a big believer that MF increases you chances at exotics ( see sig). So if it were possible to find an event that you could farm plenty of mobs for, that’s the best place to get exotics.

Vol.5241

This just killed a bunch of my excitement for the future of this game.

We’re never going to visit Elona or Cantha now. Any future Dragons will likely be killed off cheaply if we even get to fight them at all.

I’m tired of fighting unrelated side stories that feel like filler. What happened to the other dragons?!

1. Why not? Southsun was introduced. If they got people working on things outside of the Living Story, there isn’t anything to say they can’t or won’t be working on these places.

2. I’d argue it’s better to try things out and gain feedback on unrelated filler than major world plot points such as the Dragons. I mean, look how well received the Zhaitan fight was.

South Sun was extremely underwhelming. And it doesn’t even hold a candle to how much we could get if we got an Elona or Cantha expansion.

Regardless of the quality of it, it was still introduced. As I pointed out, it’s better to try things out on unrelated filler. I must say though, I enjoyed the push onto Southsun. It was the follow up that was lacking.

And who says that it all has to be introduced at once?

Elona has been divided into 3 provinces, and no-one knows much about what’s going on in Cantha.

I want it all to be introduced at once. I want a whole new world to explore like in GW1.

Not just log in, do the half hour of content, and wait 4 more weeks to do it again.

Seriously dude you are completely missing the point.

Arenanet is going to have these little tidbits of released content. That stuff you don’t like – sure, whatever. But it keeps the content coming and creates a dynamic world.

And when Anet is ready to release that new batch of ‘expansion-worthy’ content? Like new maps associated with Cantha as well as new armor, classes, and what not? Then they can release that all at once. And they can actually provide a story as to why it’s there and available now (i.e. Risen mobs at sea are gone and making trading and travel safer to go south)

Yes I did. The living story has been extremely underwhelming.

Well I’m sorry that you expect boatloads of content every 2 weeks and that you would rather prefer to pay for another box for new content when the alternative is to have 2 weeks of new content and every now and then get hammered with new maps, classes and items maybe once or twice a year.

Without expansions….does that mean we won’t get new classes or skills? My god the skills are getting really old by now. Especially when many classes have weapons that they all avoid.

This is what I am really worried about right now. In a few months I will have a level 80 of every class. The part I enjoy the most right now is playing different classes, it seems there might never be any new classes or races with the living story.

This new content every two weeks is nice and all…but I am ready for something a little more meatier then go press F 200 times in different places for a new backpack skin. And a dungeon that leaves long before it gets old. Why put the effort into something that shows up for such a short time. SAB stayed for a whole month (and again was removed long before I was finished with it. It REALLY needed to stay permanently).

If we aren’t going to be getting real expansions, can we start working new races and classes into the game on a rotation? Like we get a new race and class and 6 months later we get another race and class?

If you are in this game solely because you want to lvl all classes to 80 then you’re going to run out of time in this game. It’s unfair to expect Anet to release a whole plethora of new classes just to satisfy you alt-o-holics. 1-2 new classes is fine, but another set is too demanding.

I don’t mind the lack of expansions as long as the “expansion-worthy content” gets put into Living Story.

Stuff like full new zones, new skills, new races, new classes, new weapons (not new skins, I’m talking completely new weapon types like flails, land-usable spears) ect. If they can incorporate that sort of thing into Living Story somehow, then no expansions will be 100% fine by me.

The problem there is that so far we’ve seen not even a hint of anything like that. The closest thing to “expansion grade content” we’ve gotten thus far is probably Southsun Cove or maybe fractals. And Southsun, while it is a new zone, is also very lacking compared to previous zones, so even that’s a stretch. Everything else has been a bit of story content, a limited time dungeon or two, skill tweaks… all more in the realm of standard monthly content than anything huge.

I guess we’ll have to see if they can incorporate more content like that in the future to see if I still think a proper expansion is needed.

Let’s look at the alternative.

-GW2 releases in August.
-We get no new content at all, except for holiday events
-GW2 releases an expansion 10 months from release

I don’t know about you but I think a game as detailed as GW2 would not have an expansion in under a year. So I’m not sure why you expect Anet to release an ‘expansion’ worth of content in that span. I’d like Anet to do it, but I don’t expect them.

What I’ve loved about expansions in the past is getting 3 or 4 new zones open and released at once. It really was a breath of fresh air, and gave me a new perspective on the game as an adventurer, rather then just re-visiting old zones with slightly different mobs.

The problem, I think, with the living story updates is that there’s no real ground breaking change. It’s like 1 small area, a couple of small events and then waiting a couple of weeks until the next update. There’s no brand new sweeping forests to explore, or new towns or villages, or no new castles/mountains/jungles. And for me that makes the new content just seem a bit hollow.

An expansion would change everything.

It is unreasonable to expect a new map every 2 weeks.

As the interview stated, the Living Story team that is rolling out these ‘episodes’ is pretty small, compared with the backbone team that is working on entirely different content. This different content could be new maps, races, dungeons, skills, e.t.c.

And that different content can be rolled through the Living Story in some way.

I agree, ever since they started off with the Molten Living Story, it’s been small. But that could change in, say August, if (speculation) they decide to release the Tengu race through Living Story. They could release 3-4 maps along with that, as well as two new dungeons.

“It’s something that’s on the table but it’s not something we’re focused on, because what we want to do is – our idea here is that with Living World, we can do what expansions would have done but do it on a more regular basis.”

Interesting thoughts, and I agree with it. Expansions by nature for most MMOs are additions of content.

But no game in the history has experimented with content like Living Story churns out, so it only makes sense that Living Story would be considered an expansion, only that Living Story provides content gradually while an expansion provides content all of a sudden

Server swap

I would actually prefer it if you could not transfer with in game gold but instead had to pay cash.

+1
I agree with this, even if it seems contradictory to what I said. I saw people sabotage supplies in WvW when there were free transfers. It can still happen when players amass enough gold to where even 1800 gems worth of gold is a paltry sum to them.

Though I think the fee should be lowered along the lines of 800-1000gems; I think a stipulation to the lower price should be that it has to be bought using RL money. Unfortunately I don’t see a way for them to implement this.

You know, if somehow wanted to waste 1800 gems to grief people (And not be able to play with their own server), then that guy loses way more than the server that got sabotaged. I wouldn’t even be mad.

Karka queen-hasn't been done in 268+ hours.

in Dynamic Events

Vol.5241

Karka queen is not worth the effort.

Here are the prerequisites:
-You need a large enough zerg to take down all 4 camps at roughly the same time
-You need a large enough zerg to take down the Karka champion in the southwest camp
-You need a large enough zerg to kill the Queen in the allotted time

So the only way to do this event is to do a map call after another meta is finished. I see this often on IoJ. After Shatterer is killed, for example, people will call on map that “Queen is next”.

The problem is that this takes so much effort that it’s not worth the two guaranteed rares. If you play smart, you can get two guaranteed rares off other events that are active at the same time. For e.g., if Queen, FE and Golem were all available, I’d do the latter two.

This thread is certainly constructive, it made me 550g in extra gold by enticing me to use the forge again :P

Giant eyes are a super duper bookah wookah rare drop from Orr mobs.

I have got more precursor drops from mobs than Giant Eyes from mobs. The Legend and the Dusk > 1 giant eye from a mob, and that was back in October.

The only reliable source of eyes is the moldy bag.

Also keep in mind the # of eyes on the TP does not represent true supply. Many people also sell directly to the buy order (and this doesn’t appear on sites like gw2spidy)

Just put a buy order for Giant Eyes and you’ll get your 250 in no time.

You made me try my luck and I threw 120g at the forge last night (after throwing 700g since release and getting nothing)

ended up with Dusk.

Gonna try for Colossus tonight.

Welcome to the rich club

I should also note I got my precursor from forging the exotics I got back

Do you think that multiguilding is useful?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Vol.5241

Multiguilding is absolutely useful.

The guild that I’m in does guild missions every saturday. The guild leader comes on and whispers all the non-reppers and we probably end up with three dozen people just zerging missions. It’s convenient and easy. And once it’s over, people go back to their own servers and guilds.

I’m also in a small guild of mesmers who help other people (such as the Aetherblade jumping puzzle). If I’m needed I can help.

Server swap

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Vol.5241

Vol.5241

So i returned to GW2 and wanted to change server just because my ex L2 friends came here to Gantara.

I was surprised a lot that it costs 1800 GEM which is kinda like 1/3 of game cost.

Every1 thinks its okay?

Do you play WvW a lot? If you don’t even touch WvW, you can just guest which is free.

The fee is fine. Other games charge you as well but at least in this game you have the option for converting gold to gems.

There is a reason why it’s so expensive and why you can still guest to other servers. It’s to prevent interfering in WvW matchups.

I really really don’t recommend you guys spending your karma. Karma seems easy to accumulate but imagine if Anet releases new items that can be bought, then you’ll be behind

Just got Dusk in the forge last night. That’s after spending 800g or so since release on the forge.

You can add that precursor to the world drops of:
-2x Dusk
-1 The Legend

Tonight I’m gonna try for Colossus.

Use of Quartz

Vol.5241

What crafting disciplines can quartz be used in?

I suspect it will be used to make new trinkets, new inscriptions, and new insignias; so everyone but chefs will be using it. The question is, what stat combination will it offer?

I hope it’s not PvT

I’m gonna make a killing selling all my Sentinel inscriptions.
