A Veteran spider back at one of the Camps was also spawning what were obviously Veteran Hatchlings… I commented that makes no sense… and someone else nearby said, “Yeah, usually Veteran implies having lots of Experience”. How do hatchlings have that kind of experience? I think the simplest answer is they DON’T and Anet needs to revert this entire mechanikittenil they can get a better baseline for scaling. (IE: start off with events made for Duo’s b/c that’s all you’re going to see in these zones now most of the time until they find a way to merge more servers back into one)
You know that Arenanet doesn’t want you to earn gold right? Hurts their gem sales.
So they introduced that spider ‘fix’ to prevent farming.
If that’s true then why haven’t they nerfed COF yet?
It’s causing more inflation faster than Orr farming ever did…
It’s harder to fix a dungeon, I find. Also, it only really gets ‘exploited’ by wars/mesmers so it’s not going to influence the whole economy since it leaves other classes behind (not everyone can afford to lvl a new 80 in full zerk gear)
They do have the same hitbox, but it’s also absolutely true that their skills have much harder-to-see tells, and this definitely makes them favorable for PvP/WvW.
I agree with that, I especially noticed that with devious teesa and her spin move which is similar to Kohler. Kohler is easy to see since he’s huge but Teesa is smaller.
But honestly, I don’t see any feasible solution to this.
It is obvious that the Asura have a clear advantage in PvP because of their size. Asurans are not only difficult to target without auto-targeting on, but their skills are impossible to see! It is much more difficult to dodge an asura’s skills than it is to dodge a charr’s or a norn’s
I don’t know about you, but i don’t want to feel like i need to pick an Asura for PvP or level one for WvW just to get this same advantage. Its just unfair to my poor poor Charr! :’(
I do have one suggestion. I know that asurans can’t shoot over objects or over rough terrain as well as taller characters because they lose their line of sight. This is a good start, but what if asurans had shorter melee range? that would be one fix, and it would be a natural disadvantage to counter their advantage from their small size? it would make sense! 130 range for an asura’s melee attack is basically a ranged attack for them…
Constructive responses only! Thanks for reading
Asura has the same hitbox as any other race. This was discussed last year.
What I really hate about the spider is that the veterans it spawns count as its minions or something, so no loot, not even stacks for sigils or ‘on kill’ effects like my virtue resetting on guardian, they’re just a swarm of dull mindless HP to beat through. I’m honestly not even sure they deal damage. The things sit around wasting our ability to see important stuff and take longer to die than most mobs in the zone, longer even than the risen spawned by the event, and yet they’re worth… nothing. Why do they even exist?
Before they used to give a ton of loot (and lots of dust), thus making them very profitable to farm.
You know that Arenanet doesn’t want you to earn gold right? Hurts their gem sales.
So they introduced that spider ‘fix’ to prevent farming.
The instance is so short it’s not worth the time to code it to be done by a full party, let alone balance it.
I bet you if they did make it a party instance, people would still complain that it was a pathetic ‘dungeon’ when it’s anything but.
hours played doesn’t mean much.
What means a lot more is what you did for those 3000 hours.
3000 hours farming shelt/pen? Yeah you’re unlucky
3000 hours playing wvw? You aren’t gonna get a precursor that way
3000 hours playing dungeons? Same as above.
kill rate per hour is more important than hours played. Of course there is no way to check that in game but everyone knows their playing habits.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen an MMO ever claim they are 100% bot free
As far back as November we have learned about plans for new legendary weapons (from Lindsey Murdock)
As far back as a few months ago we heard from Colin himself that they still have plans for new legendary weapons. I also believe he said he wanted to improve current ones before releasing new ones.
Fun thread
.
Keep the talking going folks . Not everything can be done.. but also not everything has been suggested yet. Of course we love to know what you’d love to play.
And we get funny stuff like Taco’s, Waffles, and Clippy. <3
Sylvari kids… quaggan carrying a seed pod?.. just sayin it’s not impossible.
Quaggan with a seed pod as a hat is better.
Or a mushroom ala Mario
Ideally Anet will release a full band with guitar, drum and bass synths
You can get all precursors in the forge. Don’t need video proof.
To be honest, I dont know if victory can be had here. Do we want face-roll content? This appeases farmers, but not the people that want to be enganged. Then they ramp up the difficulty and the farmers revolt. But the people that are looking for fun engaging combat suddenly have it. Yet, the content remains under-utilized.
I am in between both worlds. I always am actively seeking materials for a legendary, so a just reward is needed for me. But I do tire of mindlessly dropping wells and AOEing things down.
Is there a happy median? I dont know. They are trying but it could be all for nothing.
Yes there is a happy median.
Create a spot for both farmers and a spot for challenging content.
We already have challenging content in the game. They include Arah (such as P4) as well as high level fractals.
How about farmers? What do we have to farm? Nothing.
What about the guy that wants some difficult content, but be rewarded for it just as much.
If I spend 10 minutes beating on vets and champs, I would like to get something like 2-3 dusts, 2-3 armor scales, 2-3 bones, etc. Vs 10 minutes of simple killing.Wouldnt that be the ultimate goal?
In that scenario, where both events start off equal in rewards, people would flock towards the veterans since those don’t die as easily (and thus becoming easier to tag).
So the most ‘difficult’ content becomes the easiest
Nobody ever looks up anymore.
It’s cause of our kitten camera

From Colin’s earlier post
“We’d also like to add more value and use to blue/green items, so things like killing vets feels more rewarding when those type of items drop when doing those events in Orr as well.”
Anyone care to speculate on what this could involve and the repercussions on the economy?
My first thought was that they would increase the vendor value – but that’s silly because that would only result in inflation, and in the long-run it won’t make a difference (if they adjusted npc prices)
Then I realized that they could actually use blues/greens as a conversion system to address a problem that will arise in a month or two – supply of t6 mats.
Right now t6 mats come from very few places and can only be yielded in large quantities through forge promotions. But I think the rate at which they are being created by the game is far lower than the rate of consumption at the forge.
This can be solved by including T6 mats in the salvage loot table of blues/greens.
i.e. a blue weapon/armor will have the same loot table as a moldy bag, while a green weapon/armor will yield a random t6 mat, plus a small chance at a lodestone
Anyone else care to share some potential ideas on what they are going to do?
(meanwhile I’m going to sell my +3000 pieces of sacs/totems)
Based on responses I’m not sure some of you read my post past the first paragraph….I’m agreeing with you, thus the:
“The one thing that’s really missing is the rewards to help make playing in these locations more even exciting and rewarding than they are now.”
And no, we’re not putting in a new currency, we have plenty of those
For the love of Dwayna, just rollback everything to January and people will be happy
;____;
I used to love Orr. There were a lot of people playing and people grouped up. This allowed you to get to know other players and was a lot of fun socially. I actually partied with a GM of a guild so many times and had so much fun that I ended up joining the guild. And, it was rewarding in terms of karma and coin. You could actually advance your characters through karma and coin by playing there. But, this is no longer true.
Very sorry to hear Colin’s take on Orr in terms of increased difficulty as that is the attempt that ruined Orr and it all started in Feb. What have we seen as the fruit of Anet’s desire to get people back to Orr? The addition of champs and vets has decreased reward. They offer no reward themselves and cut down on the number of mobs present which was always the source of reward. Difficulty, or challenge as a reward in itself? I’m sorry but 30k hits out of the blur, outrageous AoE, continuous major CC are not challenging, they represent anti-challenge, i.e., they are features that do not reward skillful play.
From the content of Colin’s post above I can tell you that they are not planning to bring back Orr and consequently the players won’t return. So, both the social and financial reward are now simply gone and it’s quite sad.
Same here. I’ve met many players and faces through farming at shelt/pen since release. Nothing is better than hanging out with other players hours upon hours discussing the game as well as their personal lives. After all, there is a 5-10 minute break between events, that’s a nice time to chat!
Nowadays there is nothing that links a server together other than WvW, and that doesn’t foster casual discussion since map chat is reserved for strategy.
People go do dungeons but that’s strictly limited to gw2lfg (pubs) or within their guilds.
People go farm meta events but they are there for only a short time, and there is too many people to share small conversations.
There is a reason no one is going back to Southsun right now to do the Karka Queen.
You guys should step back, analyze this, and regroup. This place is still pretty barren, and it is not the new content’s fault. Crazy hard fights with rewards not worth the time/effort.
And who wants to kill a champ for a guaranteed blue? Again, not worth the time.
Not only that, but the mobs in southsun have ridiculous buffs or attacks.
If you get more than 1 karka on you, you’re going to die from the initial ranged attack (unless you dodge)
If you get more than 1 drake on you, you’re going to get stunned and die from confusion (even if you cleanse it they reapply)
And they still enraged buff on them while you’re at it!
There are indeed!
We’ve had a lot of feedback from folks asking for more difficult places in the game that can be more rewarding to play in. Our intent with Orr (and Southsun) is to create areas that are more fun/difficult for groups to play through event chains, with events that scale better when larger groups of players show up than the rest of the game, rather than the old versions that fell apart when more than a group or so of players showed up.
Thus the continual updates this year to make the creatures in Orr have more varied skills, the swap over to the new event scaling system that creates veterans/champions as content scales up, and the updates to Southsun to have more playable content. The one thing that’s really missing is the rewards to help make playing in these locations more even exciting and rewarding than they are now.
We want champions to be more rewarding, so places like Orr/Southsun where events can scale up to create champions become one of the more fun and rewarding places in the game to play, since events there can be champion on demand generators to an extent. We’d also like to tie in additional unique rewards to the temple chains, to make those more worthwhile and differentiate them from the giant boss encounters (which we’ll also be upgrading to be more exciting) to give a reason to do each in a day. We’d also like to add more value and use to blue/green items, so things like killing vets feels more rewarding when those type of items drop when doing those events in Orr as well.
And of course, we’d like to remove culling from PvE as well so you can experience these events in all their glory when they do scale up.
We’ll go into specifics on all of this in an updated version of the Gw2 in 2013 blog post sometime in July focusing on our plan for the 2nd half of the year and how we plan to improve the core game experience. As a reminder, you can find the original detailing our high level plan here: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/colin-johanson-on-guild-wars-2-in-the-months-ahead/
You have fewer people playing in Cursed Shore today than ever before. You did OK with the scaling but did a terrible job in terms of rewards. There is no fun beating on a veteran spider that spawns dozens of veteran spider hatchlings that don’t give exp or loot.
Cursed Shore was the place to be for months since release. Now it’s a ghost town. I can’t see how you can justify these moves as an improvement.
Just revert everything back to what it was in January and you’ll have people playing in that zone again.
Only reason why I’m still here is because my friends whom I met through farming. We have our own little farming group.
Otherwise I would be out of here
What other game would or do you play then? If there are any oc.
Non-MMOs. TF2 primarily.
As for MMOs I’m waiting for the re-release of Final Fantasy (I heard it’s doing great in beta) as well as Archeage & Wildstar. Which is a shame because back in January I was planning on playing GW2 for the next several years.
You could ask other people in LA for a preview. I’m sure there are people who buy it before even considering how it sounds.
Yea I don’t understand why we have MF yet have a DR it’s illogical
It’s based on the theory that DR operates on a quota system.
i.e. You are only allowed 10 rares in a 1 hour period. Once you hit 10 rares under 1 hour, your drop rate will decrease by 50%
With a high enough MF , you will get more rares than someone with 0, but you will hit the quota faster so your drop rate is reduced.
Not sure how that guy came up with a specific MF% though.
Only reason why I’m still here is because my friends whom I met through farming. We have our own little farming group.
Otherwise I would be out of here
Needed? Why exactly do we need a musical instrument in GW2?
You are supporting the whole company as a whole. Not only the studio.
Otherwise, how would NCSoft be able to pay for it’s operations? NCSoft doesn’t design games itself. Who is going to pay for the marketing department? Customer Service? Finance?
Let alone, think of GW2 before release. Where did they get the hundred millions to fund the game? They got it through NCSoft’s sales from previously released games, such as GW1 and Lineage.
Conversely, how do you expect NCSoft to pay for Wildstar, when they haven’t even started selling it?
You’re going to be an extremely lonely and frustrated consumer if you boycott companies that don’t reinvest 100% of their funds from a sole product.
I liken to it to the recent textile situation in Bangladesh, where people started to boycott merchandise sewn in 3rd world countries.
I bet those very people who go these protests will see that it’s not only hard, but expensive to find 1st-world apparel.
Actually, you can transfer the skin, yes. Put it on a white item, give the white (now account-bound) item to your other char and from there put the skin of the white item on an exotic weapon.
In the end, the weapon will not be “legendary” anymore, but “transmuted”, but this happens also if you simply transmute the legendary with any other exotic weapon to have the stats you want instead of “Soldier’s”.
There are various rumors that they patched this (the last time I did this was 5 months ago) so it’s best to experiment first with a less expensive item
Find a guild that runs Orr events and run with the guild. It’s a lot easier than trying to solo Orr.
I would do that, but I’d prefer not to quit my current guild… They are a cool bunch of people, but this is the only thing they -DON’T- want to do. Although lately, between getting made fun of by one of the officers for wanting to do Orr events and knowing that a few of the members condone the use of exploits, I’ve considered quitting. Also, I’ve not really seen any guilds on Yaks Bend that likes to run Orr events.
I see people in Orr all the time. Everyone I know does the temple and Arah events for the chests, and Penitent Path mixed with temple and Arah events and clever use of guesting is still the best gold in the game after COF path 1.
This right here is actually one of the reasons they nerfed Orr…. Specifically, the Penitent Path… I haven’t even gone out there and tested it, but from what I have read this path of events is essentially the same thing that the instigators were… Run from one spot to another, complete event, run back to the original spot, complete event, run back to the other spot complete event, and so on and so forth… Which is one of the problems I stuck in my “List” of problems… The Longer times between defense and offense of events, while there being just a few more events than there already are. Even still though, if this wasn’t touched and there were a bunch of people there running these events, it would attract other players into the area…
I’m on Yaks and you should inquire with Yum, WAR. There’s also this guy named Reylt Bandor (sp?) that runs a guild that constantly runs events..unfortunately I forgot the guild name ;/
Curious to hear how other players are reacting to these changes.
Ever since the farming nerfs I’ve been playing a lot less. I’m focusing on farming metaevents across my four lvl 80’s, but once I hit my cap I call it a night and play other games. Weekends I barely do anything but afk and do chores.
I’ve also started dabbling in power trading t6 mats, which I have never done before. I used to exclusively conduct speculation transactions but I need short-term income.
I’ve also resorted to trying out cof1 farm this past month and have made 60g so far from it. But I really hate dungeons and find cof1 repulsive even though it’s profitable.
Anyone else find themselves playing less or doing things they haven’t done before (whether they enjoy it or not)?
To be honest I don’t mind the skins that they put in the gem store because
1. We get skins for free with every event (weapons from SAB, F and F gloves, backpieces from Southsun, helmets and backpieces from dragon bash) and I find those skins quite pretty. Also unlike the gem store skins they prove that you were at the time of this and that event, which a year from now will actually mean something. It just feels like getting something unique.
2. Skins are cosmetics. We’re not paying a subscription fee so cosmetics is indeed what has to keep the game alive. I’m happy that it’s not buy to win items.
3. You can convert gold to gems
What I do mind is skins in RNG boxes.Want to buy that nice T3 set? Shame you can’t afford it with in game gold, but you can if you buy gems and convert it!
Didn’t need to do that for my Tier 3 and not doing it for my second set of Tier 3 for my alt.
Gameplay today is completely different than gameplay a month ago.
You can no longer make gold in this game.
This past week I bet I’ve made no more than 15g. If we still had farming, I would have made 140g.
New players are gonna have a tough time
Almost there, OP
Everything you can get in game, you can get through the gemstore.
Want to buy that nice T3 set? Shame you can’t afford it with in game gold, but you can if you buy gems and convert it!
Why are you necroing this thread? This issue as been debated and answered already. You are not allowed to play more than a single account at the same time. Doing so will risk your accounts for termination, as per the User Agreement.
The posts in this thread beg to differ.
Introducing too many titles diminishes the aura to it. If you have too many, it’ll become harder to distinguish what accomplishment that title represents. A game like Rift had hundreds of titles, and most of them I couldn’t distinguish on which one was harder to obtain.
Anet realized that they were losing a ton of $ since people were gaining wealth through in-game gold through farming rather than convering gems to gold.
So they made it harder to farm and nerfed all events so that people don’t get wealthy as easy.
If that was their issue and they targeted Orr over CoF, I’d never again question that they want the region to be empty.
Who knows though, it could even be something like an event up-chain that is bugging or got tweaked and inadvertently ends up slowing down everything that follows as well. So many events in Orr stem from other events which stem from other events, it must be a pretty easy system to break.
Trust me, I’ve been farming shelt/pen ever since release up until they nerfed risen spiders.
Nothing is bugging that chain. They intentionally increased the timer respawn to prevent farming. They intentionally introduced gated-Champions.
Yes, there are chains that bug out occasionally in other places in Orr, but those bugged out events don’t matter since no one farms them.
Everyone farmed shelt/pen and that’s how I was able to afford my legendaries. Now that they have cut out the main gold faucets it’ll force people to buy gems in order to get gold. And that’s golden in Anet’s book.
Some flaws:
1. 90% is not enough for a monopoly.
2. some items have daily turn overs of hundreds of thousands. That kind of storage does not exist for a single player or even a small group.
3. a monopoly requires 24/7 attention in a game with a world wide Trading Post. That’s not physically possible except for account sharing, which is legally forbidden.
4. Why would you play a game for such things if you could take such skills into the real world and really make it big?
5. It is not possible to control active orders, since other people will undercut you all the time.So technically, you’d be selling something that does not exist, anyone who’d like to buy it knows that. Your “monopoly” is worthless.
There are items in game that are possible to monpolize. They include items such as holiday skins, precursors, or even giant eyes.
And when it comes to rare skins such as the Ghastly shield, all the power is in the seller.
Anet realized that they were losing a ton of $ since people were gaining wealth through in-game gold through farming rather than convering gems to gold.
So they made it harder to farm and nerfed all events so that people don’t get wealthy as easy.
Look at my sig for your answer
That being said though, there is nothing worth farming anymore. So MF up until about a week ago was worth it.
I want to go for the Meteorlogicus as my 4th legendary, but I’m saving for the next batch of legendaries, whenever they come.
Gold is hard to come by now and as such it would be stupid to waste it on a weak legendary. I already have the Eye of Rodgort anyways, and that is one sceptre that you don’t see often.
That being said, I’m sitting on two storms that I bought awhile back to 140g. Price has been ranging anywhere from 110 to 190g.
Keys are not worth it. Do not bother spending real $ for it.
If you really are desperate for keys though, you get a free one for the lvl 10 story. Go youtube it, there are tutorials on the most efficient way to farm BL keys.
I farm infractions. lol
Oh please. I’ve been banned so many times I’m now on a 2-week cooldown.
Haven’t been infracted in 2 months, though. Record.
Farming what? There’s nothing to do
Oh he coming lol , he never fails to show up.
Delivering:
You put up an order for 22 shards, 3 days ago.
Thanks for letting me know.. I swear I don’t remember placing this order since I do not require any destroyer shards. And my brother doesn’t even touch my computer so I am sure he didn’t do it on accident.
Edit: Now that I think of it. If I ordered these 3 days ago, Why did I receive them Yesterday? Can you tell me at what price I bought them for? the reason why i am asking is because these shards are available in mass quantity. Couple of months ago i bought a stack of molten cores and they filled up my order with 30 mins of me placing my order, Which makes me wonder why it took shards longer when theres more out there.
You put up a buy order. It took 3 days for the price to go down to meet your buy order.
During the southsun event, the karka got a purple frenzy buff that makes them stronger. Now that the event is over, I figured that they should have it removed, especially since the mobs are extremely difficult to kill in a party.
Is it intended to leave this buff on or are we going to have it removed some time soon?
Looks like all 5 skins that where unlisted are relisted back up. At a higher price lowest being 385g.
I still don’t know if I want to sell mine and I don’t use a shield that much on my warrior or guardian.
Should I sell now or hold on to it as I don’t want the value to drop as you guys say it might be coming back in Halloween
Don’t pay attention to the lowest selling price. Doesn’t mean anything.
A few weeks back someone bought up all the dusk (or removed them) and some smart guy put one up for like 900g. Of course he immediately got undercut and it ended up going back down to 500-600g. That’s 135g lost.
Pay attention to the highest buy order. If there is a huge gap (+100g) then there is still time for the price to adjust on both sides. I’d wait until it’s at a difference of 40g.
Or the general rule is that the acceptable difference is equal to the breakeven point of buying it at lowest buy order and selling it.
My hardcore farming group of 4 haven’t found anything that is worth investing time for.
We’ve pretty much given up, nothing to do.
I can’t bring myself to play Norns.
Male norns look really ugly and have bad proportions. Their upper bodies seem to be larger than their lower body and their shoulders too broad.
Female norn are too big for me to consider ‘sexy’ and they sound extremely arrogant and annoying.
Also, I’m really sick of the typical “I drink beer all day and every day” mantra and the Norn embody this.
I hand out free 15-slot bags to newbies.
Of course, there are greedy players that try and claim to be new but I invite them to party and see them have 6000 achievement points.
Some people..
Looks like I’ll need to skin a quaggan to regain my manhood
They’d have to donate 100% of the proceeds otherwise some people here will make a big fuss over profiting off of other people’s suffering.

Try and go to the maps/servers that are highly likely to have an overflow.
For example, pick Jade Quarry or TC as a server and then try and stay in overflow for zones such as Blazridge, Queensdale, Metrica, e.t.c.
