Typical.
Anet loses money, people will say the game is dying
Anet makes money, people will point out it’s short-term and the game is going to die anyway
It’s a lose-lose on these forums.
As mentioned, exclusivity is a pre-requisite of ‘epic’
Except it isn’t. If you look at the definition of epic, there is no requirement of exclusivity at all.
What is your criteria for ‘epic’ loot?
It has to look cool. Impressively so. At least SAB quality in terms of design and looks. (not 8-bit, necessarily. But SAB items have real quality to their design).
In the case of a LS reward, it should come from the meta, or if tied to the “final boss” directly, should drop upon being part of that boss defeat. No RNG silliness.
Oh comon, don’t pull out that dictionary BS.
Let’s just say we agree to disagree.
If everyone gets ‘epic loot’, then is it really epic?
Yes, as long as the loot in question has an impressive feel and look to it.
I guess we differ on the feeling of accomplishments when it comes to ‘epic’.
For me, epic is something that is scarce and looks great. It makes you stand out and feel unique because you achieved something that many others cannot.
If everyone in this game who completes season 1 achievements for ‘epic’ loot ends up getting a nice skin set, the excitement over that skin set will disappear rather quickly. You’ll see it everywhere and you don’t feel special. That’s not epic, IMO.
Same thing happened when AP rewards came out. Everyone and their mother started carrying the AP skins and the novelty quickly came off. Now I don’t associate AP skins with prestige or ‘epic’. It’s more of a poor man’s skin.
What you’re describing isn’t epic, though. What you’re describing is exclusive.
They aren’t the same thing.
Something is fully capable of being epic without being exclusive.
As mentioned, exclusivity is a pre-requisite of ‘epic’ and is just one component. Again, just my opinion.
What is your criteria for ‘epic’ loot?
I don’t think we will ever get that feature. You’re asking a lot out of your legendary. The main feature of it is that it changes color according to day/night and I wouldn’t expect Anet to devote resources to make it changeable upon demand.
The changes in the tourney will not prevent buying guilds.
I won’t use BG as an example since they are at full right now,
But let’s suppose JQ is in a match-up against BG and wants to ensure a win in their only match-up against BG.
They could go to ZD and buy them at a premium for one week. ZD will only be on JQ for 1 week out of the 7, while still receiving credit for their home server. And since the only competition for JQ is BG, they will only need to rent them for that week only. (and perhaps ZD is on a server where they can still win if they leave)
Under the previous system, ZD could be rented for as many times as they wanted. Under this new system, ZD can still be rented out, just as long as they don’t overstay too long on one server.
The only way to combat guild renting is to disqualify players from WvW rewards if they choose to switch servers during tournies.
Yeaaah I think I’m gonna go with Zomorros funding Scarlet than Evon
Protip:
1.) Refine essence of luck through artificer on an alt account (if you are maxed on your main). Artificer at lvl 1 will be able to refine it.
2.) Bind your scroll wheel to left click. Speeds everything up tremendously.

Yay! Though doubtful, maybe this will put some of the ‘this game is dead/dying’ rhetoric to rest.
A growth in gem store sales really proves nothing.
Q3 2012 the game was still new and people had no reason to buy gems. There were still objectives to work towards in the game.
Q3 2013 the only new stuff in game was all on the gem store. The game had become a grind for many players that could be avoided by purchasing gems for gold.
There was going to be an obvious increase in sales. The more telling number will be Q2 2013 vs Q2 2014 as that was the time living story was first introduced and when a large chunk of players felt the game took a turn towards the worse.
So are we going to completely ignore gem sales then? That is ridiculous. No reasonable financial analyst would discount it.
Gem store sales should be factored in financial analysis since it will be a driving revenue source for GW2 until the game is done. Less emphasis will be placed on boxed sales since a decline in box sales is expected in the gaming industry due to markdowns and decline in demand.
I disagree with your assessment on TY vs LY being affected by in-game, non-gem store factors.
Why are sales up? It’s because Anet has started to release more and more novelty/convenience items in greater frequency that were actually useful to the playerbase.
Is it true that sales going up were to be expected? I would certainly say so. If Anet had declining gem store sales, I would have been very concerned.
But it’s not a time for negativity and saying, “what if”. That type of mindset doesn’t work in financial analysis since there are several things you could second guess.
Anet should be happy that 2013 sales are up over 2012 and dont’ need to be bothered about 2014 in terms (oh man I hope 2014 over 2013 is going to be +). I’m sure their gem store division already has projected on what they can do for the coming year so that they will beat expectations. All rational businesses do this. Every profitable business will have plans to grow revenue, not lessen it or settle for status quo.
If everyone gets ‘epic loot’, then is it really epic?
No.
I think we can settle with non-loot rewards.
So you’ll get an account bound minipet, a title, and maybe an item that will replay the inevitable cinematic we will get.
I have only one question about it, and it is how the ticket system work.
For example, is this ticket system going to follow the same system with the achievement reward skins?
Meaning, the more tickets you get (by placing higher), the more weapon skins you can unlock?
So for example, BG could win and everyone on that server will have enough tickets to unlock all unique weapons.
Meanwhile a last place server such as Devona’s will only end up with one ticket, and can only choose one weapon.
Be sure to check out the community over at http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/ as well
Every saturday there is a weekly “stupid questions” thread" where you can ask many things about the game.
You can’t just equip gear and smash weapon skills, expecting to destroy everything.
It’s a combination:
-Gearing appropriately for your level (lvl 50 in lvl 48-50 gear)
-Choosing the right stat set (you’ll do more in a full damage stat than healing)
-Tailoring traits
-Tailoring utility skills.
-Choosing the right weapons
1.) Ranger
2.) Necro
3.) Mesmer
How does Zhaitan keep getting all these Risen to throw at people? Sure, he had a whole continent’s worth, but it’s been a year and a half since the game launched now. People have killed millions, if not billions of Risen enemies. In fact, some people have already completed the Personal Story and killed Zhaitan himself. So why are there still so many Risen? Zhaitan is such a Mary-Sue!
C’mon, guys. It’s an MMORPG. You can’t try to justify “where do all these enemies come from” given the scale of slaughter and genocide the players put forward wherever they go. You just have to accept it, and that’s true whether it’s talking about Scarlet, Zhaitan, Kralkatorrik/Jormag (how many Shatterers and Claws have been killed since the game’s launch?), or those bandits in Queensdale that pour out by the dozens each five minutes to attack a farm.
^
Some people are just looking for excuses to rant against the game.
If you’re going to have to rail against Scarlet and her resources, how about complaining about how mobs just spawn out of thin air, or how Shat/Teq/Claw keep coming back even though we killed them.
Seeing as a lot of people love Taimi, if Anet were to do that, they would lose a lot of people ;x
Can’t really compare GW2 to GW1. One of them isn’t even a traditional MMO.
I logged in to sympathize with you because sometime my ele says things like “Behold the power of fire!” and “Air!” and stuff, and they can grate on you when the other aesthetics are so good. But then I read your next comment.
So the developers don’t listen to player feedback at all, they do very little to improve their game, and you get an infraction for mentioning this fact. Yeah, I don’t think I’m going to play this game anymore.
So it seems like you’re already done here.
It’s just a bunch of empty threats to make us feel bad for him and ‘threaten’ the Devs to give in to the ‘suggestions’ of one person.
As far as I know, if someone really wants to leave a game, they just leave. They don’t make any efforts to stomp their feet and make noise while they exit the door.
If you’re going to quit this game because Anet won’t give you an option to disable weapon skill sounds, then by all means. Just don’t make a big fuss about it and expect us to have sympathy for you.
Out of all the reasons to quit a game, this is perhaps one of most least justifiable.
Poor timeline? If this game had any sense of realism and a realistic timeline, this wouldn’t be a game.
The whole map would be cleared of mobs in the first week – there would have only been one Shatterer or Teq or Claw spawned, and this whole game would have no purpose.
I think it’s pretty obvious that the open world is locked in time except when the map involves the Living Story.
Trying to get around this is impossible and you shouldn’t even be worried about it, because it’s not an issue.
relax, nothing will hapend to LA, too much is tight to LA like personal story, every event(dragon bash, halowin, wintersday…etc). Mabye a part of LA will be change, some memorial plaque here and there or crap like that
and the next LS will be along “yeeee, we win against the evil forces of [insert generic bad]” and everything is back to normal
Too bad the Massively interview said the opposite.
A lottery would only work among trusted, well-known people.
In the GW2 community, there are not many trusted names out there other than Dulfy, WoodenPotatoes, Obal & MattVisual.
The latter 3 are strictly youtube, while the former would be a perfect candidate since she already has a fledged out website. The thing is, would Dulfy really be interested in dealing with weekly lottery? You have to manage all the mail and keep track of everything. It can be pretty tedious.
I’m thinking more along the lines of a Black Lion Lottery. Not a player run lottery.
Mmm well in that case, I could definitely get behind it. It could be a 50/50 draw where half of it acts as a gold sink.
This kind of system has obvious drawbacks.
You can take a look at reddit since it’s pretty much the same thing.
Voting should be based on quality of contribution. In an ideal scenario, a comment that provides quality should be highly valued, even if you disagree with it. But more often than not, comments that you disagree with end up being ‘downvoted’ or “-1’d” because they don’t like that people don’t have opposing views.

FEAR moved off to FA, but they’re near dead with only 10-15 players that joined. RET left, and they had some good players, but they were small as well. They also moved to FA.
SoX left to JQ because the guild leader got paid I believe. Most of their members stayed here, so they really don’t matter. XPK also moved to JQ, and they were decent.
Overall, 4 guilds moved off, but none of them really contributed that much. The people that did move off were small, maybe 50 overall. Most people stayed loyal.I ensure you that this guy is clueless on the inner workings of FEAR. We moved to FA and we field 20-25 daily raids and 30ish on reset. We gvg 3-4 times a week and raid 5-6 times a week. We are far from dead. We moved out 65 of our 70 man roster. Also as far as us not contributing much to SOR, ask anyone that isn’t kitten on the subject. FEAR did alot for SOR and left because of Teir 1 not SOR itself. We still consider ourselves rallians, and if SOR comes to Teir 2 or Teir 1 gets better we will be back. If you want more information about my guild please check out my website.
Throwing my cents in the fire.
Back when I WvW’d a lot before/during season, FEAR was always the guild I ran with (myself being a pug). They know what they’re doing and I think they contributed just as much and if not more than a lot of other guilds. I was disappointed to hear that they left but it was expected. No more "DEY F’ED UP’ lines from Dgin ;_;
Yo dawg, spoilers.
I still think Lion's Arch isn't the target.

You’re very right. LA is not the target. Something bigger ;3
Just checked the video, it was listed on Jan. 7, which is still two weeks before the spike on 20/21st.
Then again, 21st was Marionette patch day, but I do not recall any significant content changes that would have caused the T5 spike.
Here let me help you. I’m not invoking an economy discussion. I’m asking for a T6 evaluation.
“Can we get a look into the [T6] drops of these mats outside of champ boxes and estimate where it could be vs where it is?”
I dont think you can get an answer to this without an economic discussion because the t6 droprate outside of champ bags didnt change while their prices rose (significantly in the last months for all, excluding totems).
A good deal of t6 was created through promotion in the forge but if you check the prices for t5 fine mats, you will realize that their prices rose around 75% (even totems) within the last 3 weeks.
That leaves the question why t5 mats have been rising? My guess would be that they have been used to craft rare lvl 80 weapons to throw into the mf to get pre cursors.
The slight decrease of prices in precursors in the last month supports my theory and would also explain the raised demand in t6 mats.
Here is what happened to cause T5 prices to go up:
Mithril ore dropped several weeks back from around 50c to it’s current value of 30c. Why, I don’t know. But this directly impacted the market of T5 materials considering that the demand side for T5 materials is largely driven by players who craft their own rares for forging or selling.
Is it possible that T6 prices have gone up because of the rise in T5? Likely, though that would mean a large number of players would be promoting T5-T6, even though that is grossly inefficiently and not the best silver per skill point.
Most people have no idea about ROI per skillpoint anyways and settle for 10 silver.
And on average, t5 common mats only account for ~25% of the crafting cost of rare weapons, t5 fine mats are the other 75%, so i dont think that the mithril price had much of an impact on it.
A lower mithril ore price makes the initial buyers buy up lots of T5 mats to take advantage of the savings. Overtime, these savings made up through the lower price of ore get cancelled out by the higher price of T5 mats.
It’s not coincidental that the fall of ore happens at the same time as the rise in T5 price.
Ore starts dropping Jan. 20

Intricate totem rises Jan. 20

Potent Venom
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/24282
Potent Blood
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/24294
Of course, something else could have happened, but the timing and the fact that mithril ore/t5 are paired components for a market that is demand-heavy tells me it’s all linked.
Or it could be in anticipation of the ole’ precursor crafting. I mean, it has to come some day, right? Should be sooner rather than later I guess.
I’m pretty sure T6 prices would have gone up along with the precursor crafting announcement, but this is too far from that release. If T6 prices had remained the same at the start of March, I would have invested.
But at this time, there is not enough powerful demand to sustain a high T6 price merely due to speculation from precursor crafting.
Right now the price is sustained due to the components required to promote.
You upgrade the minstrel to have vanity-related effects to it, then they’re going to have to do the same with all legendaries.

You need to read over your original post. How this topic doesn’t involve economic discussion perplexes me, because it’s exactly what you want to talk about.

Highly unlikely considering that cultural armor is exclusive to each race. It’s entirely on you that you purchased these without acknowledging the soulbind on acquire.

Hm, a bit annoyed about LA hanging in the balance as it is the main hub for the game, and moving the main hub is very very risky. I also personally find it works well as such and has all we need for a hub and allows you to rp and so forth in it. And with the possibility of everything being moved to the vigil keep..the vigil keep is hardly a city map so in my eyes not suitable unless it is enlarged, as it is just to small
This won’t change for RP’ers. RP’ers will now have to adjust to the settings around them. They’re now refugees, so they should act like refugees.
And you never learn that overflows exist for a reason.
This is nothing new.
As explained above, as soon as a player clears the mobs and takes the power core from the probe, it then becomes available for other players to take power cores as well. After a set period of time (+- 5 minutes), it self destructs. No one will be able to get power cores from it until it ‘respawns’.
Which gives you the result in the picture.
Beneath the site of LA Scarlet’s probe found the magical energy she was looking for. Then, she activated self-destruct sequence for other probes, as they were not needed anymore.
Scarlet’s alliances destroy the city, kill many innocents, but mainly prepare all five united races to another war. After the Scarlet’s victory, she will command her armies to stay inside the ruin of Lion’s Arch. She will quietly leave the area and get in touch with the leaders of 5 allied races. She will explain everything. How nobody would take her seriously and how she hates ignorance of people. And how ambitious she was whether she would be able to accomplish what she did.
In one month from now, in typical GW2 cinematic, you will observe Primordus/Mordremoth emerging from the depths of LA, killing whole Scarlet’s armada and destroying the little left after the siege. LA will be lost forever, becoming a nest of an elder dragon.
Arenanet will release the details about coming expansion – in what way it will come in game and what benefits you will get if you buy the upgrade.
/
/
Another end:
LA will be lost, more little stories about politics between the playable races, more vanity items, more ghost town full-dps-one-hundredpeople-requirement bosses. No elder dragon, no personal story, no Maguuma, no Cantha, no Dominion of Winds.
I only hope that the elder dragon that does come (supposedly, hint hint) that it would not nest in LA. That ensures that the next living story season will have us go to the Maguuma jungle to chase him.
When we got Primordus in 2-3 years then yeah, feel free to have him come up from the ground in LA.
Why are you looking at one specific type of commodity and generalizing from it?
I can point out to the lower price of ecto and say the economy is doing just fine.
And that’s completely ignoring the fact that price increases aren’t necessarily a bad thing.
Gem to gold converting people got smart. That’s all. They wait until there’s a spike. Then they spend gems enough to get 10k gold. The spike comes down, the gold buyers are silent again. And all wait for a spike again. If they all bought what they truly wanted, and didnt care for spikes, price would be down a crapload already. But since the people delay, cause they know their gems are worth more after a while, it sort of artificially increases the price. If everybody who intended to buy gold did it 1 week earlier and didnt care for spikes, the price would already be back at 7g. That’s my take on it after comparing last two weekends prices non stop.
You do know that 10k gold costs about US$1900 at current prices right?
A lot of people think gem buyers are a large majority and that 10,000 gold probably costs $10…
Due to recent events, I will now be charging a premium for JP ports since they are unsafe.
5G per port!
We’ll probably get this when Primordus comes.
Throughout this whole ideal I guess I’ll be guesting to TC. Will be interesting to hear all the RP conversations and players acting out as refugees.
Funny how everyone there said it was impossible they would be razing it. (I would be one of those people though, to be honest)
Gotta give credit to Anet though for preparing for this for such a long time and learning from the southsun event. Of course, time will tell if we will end up with massive lag. They are splitting up LA into defendable zones though, so at least that will alleviate graphics lag.
This is exactly the type of Living Story content I was expecting. I wanted permanent, noticeable changes that would leave a mark on the world and remind you of what happened. They did that with minor changes in the Southsun event, as well as the 2nd go around in Southsun with the camps. They improved on it with Kessex Hills and Tower of Nightmares (and we still have the clean-up going on).
I hope LA does not get rebuilt in a few months. I hope that it takes nearly a year for it to be restored to it’s former glory, but at least makes some noticeable improvements (like restore each district once a month)
Who’s betting the kids who have been playing Ghosts non-stop for over a year and a half will be separated? I’m betting a copper!
Speaking of that, I’m wondering how many incidental NPCs are going to get killed.
RIP ogden’s hammer savings guy
New details here guys:
http://massively.joystiq.com/2014/02/11/prepare-to-escape-from-lions-arch-in-guild-wars-2s-next-conten/
All LS characters will have a zone to defend.
LA will be destroyed, but personal story quests and whatnot will be available through a portal – whatever that means.
All relevant LA stuff will be in Vigil’s keep for the time being.
Map completion will still be possible, but it will be difficult
I don’t think OP even knows how to use Scarlet’s “junk”
They said that they’re going to change them.
