The only real benefit of flipping/speculating/etc outside of a gold sink is of the individual capitalizing from it, not the game as a whole.
Relying so heavily on the tp gold sink for curbing inflation is a rather “lazy approach”.
There are many cons that the current system inflicts upon the whole game to rely on such a gold sink method. ( I could expand on this, as I have in the past, but find it is mostly a waste of time given the majority audience in this section)You make it sound like the gold sink is a minor benefit.
I disagree – it is a huge benefit that is more important to the game by being included than without. Any negatives related to prioritizing gold sinks are miniscule compared to having a game without gold sinks.
I in no way think it’s minor. I just think that there can and should be better alternatives that do not have such a sweeping effect on gameplay (playing content outside of the tp) rewards.
Well what kind of gold sinks in game should we have that will be as effective as the TP?
I cannot think of anything that will sink just as frequently and encompassing across the population than the TP.
Off the top of my head….
Reducing direct gold inputs. This would include less coin drops and less items directly converted to coin….ie less merched rewards. To balance this there would need to be an increase in non-converted rewards. It’s a balancing act so we’d need to make sure it didn’t tilt too far to one side or another.
Entry fees to coveted rewards. This is sorta like UW/FOW from GW1. Players wanting a chance at a certain reward item pay an entrance fee to have access to content providing said rewards.
Less focus on gold in general. Shifting focus from gold to item rewards should encourage less gold farming and more item specific farming/adventuring.
The magic find rework was genius. It not only reworked the mf debacle, but it also acts as a preventative measure to curb inflation. More implementations of things of this nature would greatly benefit this objective.
You can reduce gold faucets , but that still doesn’t get rid of the TP, and people would still be flipping to make lots of gold since flipping takes advantages of player’s psychological desire for instant gratification (which you cannot change).
If you want to get rid of the TP, you need to find an alternative gold sink to the TP and reducing gold faucets don’t come anything close to that.
Regarding making gold less of a focus, I agree that this can be a way to change things up.
But can you imagine the amount of whine on these forums? For these items to be of any value and to be a long-term goal rather than a 1-day goal, it would have to be grindy, like farming 250 dragonite ingots. Or you would have Anet design content so hard and challenging that only 1% of the playerbase could access these rewards.
Is it really worth making your fanbase this disgruntled with the game for the sake of taking gold away from TP players?
I emphatically say no. TP players aren’t even a problem to begin with.
no, because that would kill certain dungeons and new people in the game, AC, TA,CM, SE would probably become by and far the most often run dungeons because you can get to them right at the exit of a racial capital and other dungeons would cost as much to get there as you would make (almost).
I was being facetious, hence the ( :P ) smiley.
The main reason why the TP is the best way to deflate the currency is because it has an extreme number of transactions and thus only needs to delete a small amount of currency per transaction keeping it an affordable method. If we were to transition the gold sink into other areas of the game they would become so insanely expensive that new and poor players would be unable to play.
And the great thing about the TP is that it’s all encompassing. A large majority of the population will use it.
You could introduce insane gold sinks, like 500G per T4 armor piece, but not everyone will be going for T4 armor, so it’s ineffective.
You could introduce T6 mats that can be purchased from vendors (while all T6 droppable mats are removed from the game), but not everyone purchases T6 mats.
Or you can introduce something as absurd kitten G waypoints, and people will begin to quit this game en masse.
There really is nothing I can think of that can be an alternatve to the TP as a gold sink.

Can someone please give me a convincing argument why this Atlas was created? I’d be really thankful, as I can’t really find anything ‘useful’ or ‘interesting’, or ‘entertaining’ about it. At the same time, the time they may have speant on making it could be devoted to… let’s say… a new dungeon.
I mean, I understand and accept that some people that in some mystical way could be very pleased to see something like this Atlas, but I can’t.
The people designing a website aren’t the same people who design a dungeon. The people who design this website would be creating other online tools…
lol grapes touched 5s. Man that’s ridiculous.
New "HUB"? What did I change server for? ~.~

The Grove has an overflow? The first time I can imagine since release..
Because they’re all pirates and like money, and their single trade hub has been destroyed.
Imagine if New York was destroyed and you lived across the world. It would directly affect you since all the exchanges in New York got destroyed.
What is wrong with someone having 30,000g?
If you think 30,000G is a lot, go ask the guy on SoR about how he got his 200,000G. He even got contacted by Anet to check out any suspicious activity, but instead congratulated him on such a feat.
by place I mean LS event, like how the current place we farm is in LA, the next one could be farming inside the drill tower. Who knows how lucrative it is and if it keeps people way from doing metaevents.
There is more than one video on the site. You will have to find them
Could it just be a translation error? The new site could be a new preview page.
Yeah they were at 92K when I checked last week, I’m unsure of when he started dumping.
But I told everyone that ecto price was largely depressed at 29s or so. Unfortunately, the rise back to this point took so long that investing in ectos would be a slow return.
If you wanted to hold ectos for legendaries next month, the 29s price was the best time.
Again the prices we see right now are based on the supply side. A considerably high % of people were skipping metaevents due to the LA invasion (which is less rewarding gold-wise) so there were less ectos being dumped in the market.
It’s been confirmed that the LA event will be leaving on March 4th, but it’s pretty hard to gauge where the ecto price will go after this.
The March 4 patch could introduce yet another place to occupy our time, plus speculators may keep the ecto price sustained due to Crystalline Ore.
As others have mentioned above, you need to get kill credit
So two things have to happen:
-At least 1 mob dies
-You get credit for that mob kill (you get exp)
In order to ensure this, you should be in a party killing the ogre with you (mandatory in large zergs) and you have to kill at least one before the end up finishing their run.
Unfortunately, the ogres move too fast that they spawn the other 2 waves, but hopefully the rest of the zerg distracts them long enough.
For people who may not know where that dragon minion is from, it’s from the Sylvari creation quest
Looks like someone bought a Monocle on a high note, when buy orders touched about 700g around Feb. 17
You got burnt for holding too long.
You have T5 and mithril. The only thing you are missing is elder logs.
I suggest you go craft up rare greatswords to sell.
Or if you want to risk it, gamble on the forge
In-game GMs are just not efficient anymore.
Why spend a yearly salary on a GM to look for violations of the TOS when players can do it for free?
A GM has to manually go in the game and run around looking for bots. Imagine doing Cursed Shore bot-finding runs for a full work day? Extremely boring.
Players can simply report these bots where these reports will probably get sent to a generic inbox for Anet’s Anti-bot team. From there, they can efficiently check the logs to verify botting activity.
Same thing with hacks.
Soul binding encourages more gold/item sinks than account bound.
It’s highly likely they will be used in some form for the colored backpieces in the next patch.
FGS champ train is the fastest. They buffed the scrolls up considerably.
Hmm I stand corrected on the Anet tag representation button! I swear I read a redpost here that said they can turn it on/off :/
I wonder what kind of stuff Anet employees dump into the guild bank ;o
Royal Terrace:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joM_OtH5yEs
It was released for 1 day or a weekend back in January.
No timetable on it’s return, but keep an eye out for it.
I’m not averse to action being taken against leechers, but I am sort of at odds with this:
GW2 Dev characters have in-game powers.
GW2 Devs playing on their personal characters don’t.What is the difference? Devs’ personal accounts are their ANet accounts because they are in the ANet guild on those accounts. These characters are the same. There isn’t a distinction as far as I can tell.
The Anet ‘guild’ is not a guild. It’s a tag that they can turn on/off. It’s more than likely an item such as the Representation buttons.
And actually, on 2nd thought, it’s possible that both Anet and personal accounts are linked, considering that Chris Cleary (Qt Spy in game) has plenty of achievement points and more than likely has the Dev Menu available to him. (we got a preview of the Dev Menu @ GW2 PAX)
Either way, there is nothing wrong with Anet employees having access to the Dev Menu. They keep logs for this and it’s not worth risking your employment for spawning 12 Twilights.
I didn’t get the pass but I previewed it due to the one-time use ones.
I think it’s too clustered and claustrophobic. I feel like a refugee on a ship.
RT > refugee ship
It’s psychological pricing/sales and it’s meant for gem buyers with real $.
e.g.:
Item X is priced at 1500 gems, but I buy 2000 gems.I now have 500 gems left, but next week I see an item I want for 600 gems. Since I already have 500 gems, doesn’t hurt for me to make another purchase.
vs
Item X is priced at 1500 gems and I’ll buy it for 1500 gems. I now have 0 gems left.
I see an item for 600 gems, but I don’t have any left and I don’t feel like spending it.
u missed my point. Im not talking about why are gem packages not related to certain purchases. I want to know why when I want X amount of gems I am forced to raise the amount Im willing to spend silver by silver. We should be able to just punch in the amount of gems to buy when using gold NOT RL MONEY. If I need 250 gems for example I type in 250 gems rather than 15 gold 37 silver 76 copper and start changing that until I get to 250 gems.
Because the gold/gem rate changes constantly.
If I were to type in 250 gems, what rate are they going to use? The rate as soon as I click ‘Buy’ or the rate when I typed 250?
People will get angry if they end up paying more gold for 250 gems than anticipated.
It’s your fault if you mindlessly click through everything.
Unless you have millions of dollars, they will not be interested.
This seems like an elaborate story to cover up dungeon selling
Which is not bad at all, but still.
They will check your chat logs if you are telling the truth.
GW2 Dev characters have in-game powers.
GW2 Devs playing on their personal characters don’t.
There is a difference.
And any MMO game (even the bad ones I’ve played in 2006) have checks in place to prevent abuse by devs. Everything is logged.
Escape from LA - Critique and How To Improve
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: Vol.7601
I’m enjoying this patch but I feel like there are some areas that can be improved on for future releases.
The following are problems and possible solutions that will make events such as this more rewarding for different types of players
1.)
Problem:
Farmers or players who do not save citizens are rewarded more than citizen-rescuers, despite the fact that citizen rescuers are the main reason for success.
Citizen saving right now is unrewarding to players who focus merely on citizens. If I were to strictly focus on saving citizens for 40 minutes and get to 1200, my max rewards would be the Ultimate bag and 25 alliance supplies.
But what if I’m a farmer? I get the rewards above, plus all the loot I get from farming events. That usually includes +300 alliance supplies plus all other loot.
Solution:
So what can be done to combat this? Well, it would be unfair to reward loot to citizen savers since people would be fighting over citizens (and only one person would get them), so I propose that you reward citizen rescuers in another way – karma.
Karma right now is a scarce currency since the nerf and has actual value. To combat people fighting over citizens, I suggest marketing an entire ward of LA as an ‘event’ where you have to rescue all citizens in the timer alotted (2 minutes since thats the respawn time). And also give credit for players who clear mobs for safe passage. The karma reward for successful completion of this will be considerable – let’s say, 1000 karma).
2.)
Problem: AFK’ers leeching.
Unfortunately I do not think punishing AFK’ers is the appropriate way to go. I don’t like them either, but you cannot differentiate between intentional leechers and people who have to go away for 5 minutes.
Solution:
We’re going to have to change map rewards slightly.
Everyone on the map will still be rewarded for 1200 citizens rescued. But they will be rewarded a Locked Chest.
How do you open it? By participating in all events in LA. Anet should include a token system that can be exchanged for better rewards. For example, all mobs can drop a token and from event completion. Citizen rescues can also be rewarded a large number of tokens using the event system described earlier above.
In order to open this Locked Chest, you will need to buy the key to this Locked Chest, which you acquire from exchanging your tokens.
So the AFK’ers get their reward, but it’s useless if they don’t help at all. People who have contributed get their Locked Chest AND the tokens to open it.
3.) Problem: Zerging
Zerging is naturally in all MMOs. The best thing we can do is limit it. From what I see from this event so far, zerging is caused for two reasons:
i.) farming is more profitable than citizen rescuing
ii.) certain mobs are easier than others
Solution:
For i.), see point 1, which encourages rewards for citizen rescuing.
For ii.), I think Anet should include variety in miasma events. Everyone loves to do aetherblade and toxic since they are a lot easier than molten. Why would I choose Dredge/Molten with 35% protection when Aetherblades/Toxic are much easier to zerg? Miasmas should have been mixed with all three in one event. This way, events are evenly favored.
It’s psychological pricing/sales and it’s meant for gem buyers with real $.
e.g.:
Item X is priced at 1500 gems, but I buy 2000 gems.
I now have 500 gems left, but next week I see an item I want for 600 gems. Since I already have 500 gems, doesn’t hurt for me to make another purchase.

Do you guys know the difference between “Item’s I’m Selling” and “Item’s I’ve Sold”?
Unfortunately there is no solution to this that I can think of with the current system in place
You cannot differentiate between people who intentionally AFK and those who have an emergency or bathroom break.
In the future, Anet should stay away from handing out map rewards. They should instead give everyone ‘token’ rewards from killing mobs, or rewarding radius karma to those rescuing citizens.
It was probably wanze.
I am selling at 36.99s.
27000 listings? (different items per page). Seems like price manipulation is also your cup of tea (call it reselling if you want a cleaner word for it). Nobody can ever have 27000 listings from farming alone. You need to buy stuff at TP to do so.
Uhhh kitten ?
Those are not listings. Those are items sold. Those go far back as release. Anyone who has played since release has thousands of items sold.
You will be able to trade in Thick Leather Sections when BoTW comes back.
It was actually 92,500 ectos when I checked a few days ago. Pretty big price wall. But I guess it’ll take a week to dig through.
People are farming LA right now more so than doing metaevents, so the ecto supply pool is slowly getting drained.
If you are EU and you play on a NA server, keep in mind that you will be playing during off-peak NA times.
Unless you pick JQ, since JQ has lots of EU/oceanic and a moderate NA playerbase.
Iron ore farming. But price is dropping fast. Kind of like ori/wood farm in orr. But you look for rich iron node instead.
There’s also the SE champ box farming. Require a coordinate group though. Just run through the dungeon till you kill the 3 champ robot and skip the boss and reset the dungeon. It is kind of like cof path 1 farm. You get 5 champ box + a bunch of blue/green/yellow and high chance of core and lodestone. You really need a good group to do it though so you can do it in 4-5 minutes.
There is also the linen farming. Best to do with lvl appropriate characters so you can avoid getting silk instead. But there are rumors Anet ban players for farming in some locations since people’ll purposely don’t complete event to farm linen.
Or you can go back to the orr harvesting.
Alright, know any locations for rich iron? I found one in kessex so far. (I can guest anywhere)

PS: you can send me gold as thanks ;p
see sig 15chars
You want people to see your sig but you basically wont’ tell people where you farm? I dno’t see how that helps.
All I knwo from your sig is you play a guardian. And you hoard material to resell later.
It’s sort of a joke
I’m more of a farmer than a TP player/speculator.
When my investments cash out in March/April, I will write a guide on how to make gold. And of course, Anet will nerf it immediately.
see sig 15chars
BG is the most populated server, not TC! BG is so populated that no one will ever be able to join that server again until guilds leave!
TC is definitely the most friendly, and you will come across casual guilds that will help you, I’m sure.
OP, the great thing about GW2 is that you can try all classes. There are 5 slots, so you have more than enough room to experiment with those three classes. Of course, you won’t be able to fully experience each class until you get them to 80, but I think you should at least play around with them.
I have 4 accounts, three of them which acts as storage. Each of them have 4 alts for storage, plus 4 bank guilds. So I have a total of 12-15 characters for storage, plus 3000 guild bank slots. And the TP itself serves as unlimited storage, so if you were to speculate and say that item X is guaranteed to rise in price in the future, you can just use place buy orders and then pick them up when you decide to sell.
Just keep them incase you want a cheap and useful ascended backpiece for alts.
925 is 4 stacks, so you’re not losing a lot of space.
Crafting right now is near useless. The only reason why you should be crafting is to make your own materials to gamble on the forge (and save money) and because it is a pre-requisite for end-game items that cost a ton (and is not appropriate for the average player).
The barrier to entry for crafting is very low, and as a result, crafting is not a good source of gold.
I suggest you sell off your materials and buy items from the gemstore. It is cheaper.
daily has a chance to give keys… I assumed monthly does too.
in the past year, I’ve got the majority of keys I’ve used in that time from daily chests. a close second is map completion (I don’t do map completion on my alts very often)Are you sure about that? I’ve only ever gotten:
1 little bottle of Karma
1 Mystic Coin
1 luck essenceI do the daily almost daily.
Do not recall ever getting keys from the daily, but gem store items do drop from the daily – maybe a 5-10% chance.
I get a lot of BL kits, for example.
Yes, the leaks are true.
The class is coming in April, however, not March.
Video of class leak here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KR2Esy83MQ0
They should give everyone, one time per year, 5 free ticket scraps.
That way people will be enticed to gamble on keys to get the last remaining 5.
They should remove Black lion chests from the game. They provide a method in which children can use real money to gamble. Its no different from a drug dealer going into a school and selling drugs to children. It is unethical for such a large company as Anet to provide such options when they are completely aware a vast portion of their consumers are children.
At a risk of infraction, I will just say that your whole comment is absurd.
Not to mention it’s the fault of the parent who gives a child a credit card who uses it irresponsibly.
