The Fights against the Assault Knights and the Holograms were a real blast. The hologram especially was epic, 3 different phases and not brain afk.


Also the endsequence was really nice, you see Scarlet impaled with spikes, and the interruption of different Ley Lines leading to the awakening of an Elder Dragon. ( Mordremoth )

Duh… battle standard has a huge cast time… why didn’t you just out-skill the NPC and dodge? IMO it should do 80k damage and be unblockable to encourage more skillful play.

On a completely unrelated note, how is that scaling down of the clutter and particle effects in large scale PVE coming Anet?

Well try to see the battle standart casting of a lvl 84 Elite Aetherblade Thug in a Zerg. Almost impossible and I like it, because it is another step to discourage Zergs. Also they can hit you you 30K with their Smash Attack.

But if you find the upscaled Thugs ridiculous, try the Molten Miasma in a Zerg. Lvl 84 Gunners spamming Tornados, up to three Elite Protectors using their flame shield, and fire fields in masse.

And what does it say? Don’t zerg or the mobs will farm you.^^

Well for many people the Krait thing is lore breaking, because one of their traits is xenophobia. Its true that they think of themselfes as the higher race, and they think that they didn’t need the help of others.

One of their other traits is that they are religious fanatics, and they would do everything to make the return of their prophets possible.

Here is a problem, Anet never said which of the traits is more defining of the Krait and so many players assume that their Xenophobia is the only defining trait, like they assume with the Dredge and the Flame Legion.

In my opinion the Krait thing is not really Lore Breaking but there are still many problems with Krait working for Scarlet. Sure their religion was used to get them on their side, but there are many thing that weren’t explained. ( And with such an unlikely thing you need to go in detail to make this believable ) Were did Scarlet got the Obelisk Shards? How did she prevent the Krait from gutting her on sight? And why are they still working with her?

Here we need explanations from the game to make this believable but we never got any. No clue where she got these shards. No hints or informations how difficult it was to find an Orratus that would actually listen to her ( I think this one was really difficult bit we never got something about this ). If we for exapmle got some hints by notes or a prisoner that she spent months to find a willing Orratus, it would be more believable and fewer would have a problem with the Krait working for Scarlet.

The right informations can be the difference betwenn Lore breaking, -bending and actually be completely fine with the Lore

Look at the Backpiece. It is one of 3 Spinal Backpieces we can’t obtain right now. I think this one has different phases where the color of this backpiece changes, with the fighting style.

While they can be very annoying when there are two, they really do add to the realism of a ‘siege’.

Realism may be good in simulations, but too much of it in an entertainment can kill the fun. This is the second case.
Yes, i agree, that with Scarlet having complete aerial superiority, heavy machinery and overwhelming military presence in place (which is not realistic, by the way, but let’s not concentrate on it) most of the rescuers should die within seconds of entering the city (and any zergs should be wiped out from above with aerial barrages within minutes of forming). I’m also sure that noone (or practically noone) would actually want to play the “Omaha beach” scenario where you are one of the frontline grunts bound to die so that the next waves can deploy in slightly better safety.

She wouldn’t need a overwhelming military presence. Her air superiority is all she needs to turn the LA farm into another Omaha Beach or worse. You only need one Airship to turn a zerg into a pile of dead bodies. Unleash the cannons and they are dead. Would be quite amusing to see this at a high scaled miasma event.

Instead the Airships play Low Orbital Ion Cannons, possible because of Inquest technology but not so effective like a full cannon barrage. More like a compromise, but I don’t mind it all, because it shows us who has the air superiority.

The point is bags contain crap loot but you get better loot from saving a certain amount of citizens.

300, 600, 1000, and 1500 citizens gives rewards. The best loot is at 1000 and 1500 which offer a chance to get past rewards from any update.

Citizens > bag farming.

It isn’t event bag farming that’s the main problem. It’s champ bag farming.
This event has devolved into a glorified champ train.

And people don’t recognize that they make it harder for themselfes if they go into the zerg and try to farm champ bags. The way the events scale, it’s more like " In Lion’s Arch mobs farm you". All they get are lvl 84 Elite mobs massacrating players, with one shot aoes, one shot hammer attacks, hundreds of fire fields, tornados, and protection fields, and a chance for champ spawns. Also the mobs take way longer to kill in a zerg than in 5 or 10 man groups. It isn’t worth it to scale the events so high, but people don’t understand this, because they are used to do this in the Scarlet Invasions or the Tower of Nightmares, and there is also the champ train in Queensdale.

Wait. There is another City? I thought Lion’s Arch was the only City.

Ok to be serious, I had seen questions like this and my first reaction on such questions was a facepalm. ( We need a facepalm emote ).

Rata Sum is much better for crafting than Lion’s Arch. The only reason to stay in LA was the Forge and not the crafting.
And to be honest. All the unique things of LA are in the Vigil Keep. So nothing to worry about.

Personally, I find it a bit insulting that somethign as minor as Scarlet can succeed in destroying Lion’s Arch when other dangers couldn’t. So I was wondering: what did you think was the most dangerous thing that ever happened to Lion’s Arch?

Personally, I think either the Mursaat or the undead. At least they felt actually dangerous without pulling unbelievable things out of thin air.

Well, technically the Mursaat did but not in an unrealistic way.

If you think Scarlet alone is the reason behind the demise of LA, then you are mistaken.

We should have helped the Aetherblades to kill the rest of the council. They are the ones who wouldn’t lift a finger. Kiel wants to build up the defenses of Lion’s Arch, but the other Councilors don’t want to hear such things because Lion’s Arch has withstood many attacks and of course, Scarlet will not attack again cough.

Can somebody please kill at least one more councilor, so we can have both Evon and Kiel? Both posess common sense and Evon has more money than all players together.

Speaking of money, couldn’t he just convince the council that Lion’s Arch needs to be defended? With a few extra gold

Great Jungle Wurm is way too hard

We have as many leechers from Deso, as we have from other servers. Many people quit trying to do wurm, because of all these people not getting into teamspeak or talking kitten about commanders.

Seriously, sometimes I think there should be an option to kick a player from main map. Some are not only not helping, but destroying the community too.

Well we have a similar problem. Everytime we try the wurm we give the randoms our TS adress and ask them to join on the TS. On every second run we have people getting negative about it, flaming us making fun of TS and more. And better, they just want to do the cobalt wurm to get loot but there are places much better for loot, like the Queensdale or Frostgorge Champ train or CoF1. In my opinion, the loot is so bad that killing only one head is almost the same like killing nothing.
Our solution was to leave them alone so they can stick to their cobalt wurm and fail there and we can organize our trys better and train the mechanics.

I’ve seen some bad guardians as well. One was actually quite brilliant though. On Warden 2, he managed to kite the warden perfectly around every bomb.

Sounds like an intentionally fail. I’ve seen some people who intentionally tried to fail the champs, just to make the event longer and grab more key pieces.

It seems that the Wurm gets more and more bugs. In the last try we had Wurm Larvea and Champion Husks at the Amber Wurm spot even before the event even started. These were high scaled mobs, too high for a relatively small group. So we sended them to the crimson wurm and the gruop did really good dmg, the wurm dropped to 50% but in the next burnphase the scaling went off, we didn’t even made 1% damage on this thing.

If you have to know the entire Plot to see Scarlet as a good Villain, then there was something wrong.

I know you want to keep things about her a secret to make her interesting, but most of the time you din’t gave us anything about her. No hints about her motivation, no real action against her only reaction. ( Srsly Tyria spent the time waiting for Scarlets next step ) except from one Update, the Twilight Assault which added a beautiful dungeon but was a slap in the face for everyone who wanted to know more about her. The delivery of her character was really bad last year. It was so bad that there was much hate here. In Every new Living Story there was at least one thread with someone asking for her to be retconned.

With the OoM Update you did a better job at delivering her Character. We gained a small insight into her madness, not too much but enough so we can speculato on her. These small hints and info drops should have appeared a few months ago. Like doing detective work to find such infos after the Queens Jubilee and getting more and more infos over the course of the season instead of just at the end, but I’m glad that finally you are giving hints and other stuff to make her interesting.

I hope that you can make her a good villian, even with all of the mistakes with Scarlet, and give us a really good villain at season two of the Living Story.

Today we had a try to watch the rate of the HP dropping and well there is something weird. In one burnphase, we dropped the HP of the Cobalt Wurm pretty fast at the beginning, then for well 2 seconds, the drop was really slow only to become really fast after these 2 seconds. Remember this difference appeared in one burnphase.

Out bet is on a bug, but we need a confirmation from Anet.

Most of the flame happens on the second champion with the mines. Everytime people are explaining how to make them vulnerable and what not to do and still there are some ignoring this, and with people ignoring tips and mechanics, this one is a garuanteeed fail. It just frustrates people to see Champ 2 fail and fail and fail 90% of the time. I can understand some of the rants, but even with people ignoring the chat or mechanics others shouldn’t insult them.

Biggest issue is that we dont know if it is intented or not, if it is indeed a hidden mechanic or just a bug.

Well this one happens on all servers, be it overflows or the homeserver. We have the same problem on Abaddon. Sometimes, we can’t even scratch the Wurm and sometimes we need only 5 seconds to kill a head. I think the scaling mechanic throws a D20 to determine the scaling of the wurm.

I’d like to see a quote or screenshot to be sure that this is a bug, but srsly, something isn’t right with the wurms.

2 Hours ago we nuked the southeast wurm down so fast, we thought it was an ambient creature. After 5 seconds the HP was down to 50% and our leader called a damagestop, but even with more than half of the group stopping, the damage skyrocketed and the wurm survived only 2 seconds.

With the try now we had the opposite. In the first burn phase we droped him to 95% and in the second we dropped the wurm to 20%.

I think we should have a means of selecting overflows properly. Because when boss fights are so dependent on the number of players participating, then afk players become a real problem once you hit the zone limit. And all this taxi’ing is kind of silly.

Either provide us with better ways to organize ourselves in a zone, or simply make boss fights not hinge on such huge amounts of players. Make it scale for lower numbers.

Well like you, I think a proper way would be a district system like in GW1 where you could choose the district. It would make coordination much easier if you can say. " Meet on Overflow#32 for epic Wurm kill ", than just having this taxi BS.

World Bosses don’t need to be put on an extra instance, we just need the ability to choose the overflows.

The new circles are nice, and its not too hard to figure out the ones from the shield mobs and how they work.
Its good to see a good world boss fight which can split up the zergs.

For the Overflow issues well i think they should let us decide an overflow server from a list just like the ones from GW1

If GW2 has a traditional Trinity system, what would the game be like?

Pure speculation discussion, so feel free to give your belief of what the game would be like with a traditional Tank/Healer/DPS trinity system.

(excuse the title of thread. limited character prevents title detail)

Better, would have strategy and thought process beyond stack zerker gear and stack on each other and snooze through the game PvE wise. I think it would make WvW more interesting too if you actually had tanks and healers. Either way the group queues are the same with our without trinity as we have seen, either way if you pug you wait 45 minutes in LA. If you have a guild groups are easy to come by, trinity or not.

Hmm if they put the same effort and time in Duneon encounters with a trinity system like they did with our release dungeons now, it woulnd’t be different. There would be the same broken and unfun encounters like we have now.

The Lack of the Holy Trinity is not the problem, the broken mechanics and the poor AI are the problems. You need to nerf the absurd damage spikes, implement an AI, scale toughness better, remove over half of the HP from some bosses, give them interesting mechanics and more.

I see the potential with the new System but I can see the mistakes Anet made with them, and they have to adress all of these problems to make this System work and if it works good, we will have a combat system thats better than any Old Trinity System you’ll find. But it would be hard work for Anet, and they have to adress the problems quickly and without flaws. But GW2 is now one year old and time is running against Anet. The longer it takes the more people will lose faith in their version of MMO combat.

It would be a huge improvement to PvE at the very least. They could develop real fights, have real raids with real stories behind them and offer real rewards for completing them.

The lack of roles has really been holding this game back. It doesn’t even need to be Tank/Healer/DPS, a DPS/Support/Debuff trinity would work just as well.

Funny. Anet tried to make a new Trinity. The DPS/Support/Control Trinity, but with the poor AI, massive Damagespikes from Zerkers and poorly implemented Mechanics, we have the DPS pwns all Situation. The problem is not the lack of the trinity, the real problem is the poorly implementation of the fight mechanics and stats.

Well the new trailer showed us two things. A 50 ft 2Chainz Watchknight and a SuperSoaker Wurm and nothing more.

The new voice could be someone related to Scarlet or just…. a new voice for trailers.

But I expect some infos about Scarlet. The new update is named " The Origins of Madness" I hope, we discover the reason why Scarlet went nuts and I hope that we can finally make some progress in this story.

The thing is also. Scarlet is like a berserk button for the community. She only needs to show up and the forum bursts into flames, it doesn’t matter if she is behind the things or not, there also will be the same threads over and over. I also think people will complain that Scarlet is involved in the final fight against her.

And I agree with Mad Queen that Scarlets doesn’t break the lore. There are many problems with her and I see many people saying that Scarlet is the sole reason for the poor Living Story quality and it would be the best if Anet just retcon her and pretend that she never existed, but this would only lead to another character like Scarlet because if you just scrap things you can’t learn from it.
Scarlet isn’t the cause, she is a symptom of very poor character delivery. We can’t know if she is really a bad or good written character becuase the delivery is too bad. We are getting next to nothing informations about her. The delivery in the Thaumanova was an improvement, even if it feels very forced the time you get there first, but for most of the time, nothing new happens. The Aetherpath was a really good chance to get new informations about her but this chance was wasted The first break of the Scarlet story happened at the worst time possible, right after her introduction and the informations we got at her introductions weren’t a bit detailed.

Remember, having a good written character doesn’t help if you can’t portrait it. Character delivery almost as important as character writing if not more important. The best character can be ruined by really bad character delivery.

She wasn’t really behind the Reactor meltdown.

She was there to work with the Inquest but from what I see from her dialogue, it sounds like the Inquest wasn’t really listening to her of the dangers there.

And the reason why the reactor had a meltdown was another thing. The Inquest experimented on one of the worst possible locations to experiment on magic. It was on an intersection of the ley lines. Something they discovered too late.

It depends really on the players skill for the Mai Trinn fight and it can be either frustrating as hell or a fun bossfight. What I see in many pugs is that the players are wasting their dodges on the first cannons and then are helpless when the have to dodge.

First advice is. Don’t waste you dodges, use them only in a situation where you are surrounded by cannonfire and can’t go out of the AOE. In this phase dodge is the last thing you use. After I told this my group they survived the cannon phases much longer

Second. Don’t rezz. Use rezz skills if one player is downed but don’t go to the player and rezz him, the only exception is when you have a skill that makes you immune to damage.

And for Anet. Please remove the defiant crap from Mai Trinn, at least as long she has her shield. The shield mechanic is a good mechanic to make Control useful, but the defiant buff destroys this possibility. Let us pull her or knock her to the electric fields with our skills, it would be much better.

Dredge Fractal Fixed

The first two parts ok. The respawn there is really annoying, especially in the bomb run, which is the most broken part of this fractal.

For the clown car I would say. Just kill the Champ and 4 of his adds and be done with it, so you don’t have to end the fractal after the clown car and still can enjoy the last boss

Do you think Abbadon would have been done any justice in a 20 minute fractal?

No it wouldn’t. The Abaddon fractal would be a great disappointment. Epic moment, insanely high expectations and there are people who think that a fractal would be enough for the Fall of Abaddon? No it would be pathetic. Abaddon deserves more than just a tiny fractal.

And to the ones who have a problem with the layout. Remember, its a fractal. Fractals aren’t 100% accurate, some fratcals are more accurate than others. The mists tend to add, remove or replace details. Things that aren’t really affecting the main event. The mists could have replaced some of the rooms.

Time for a feedback thread.

Ok first of all, I only played the new Thaumanova Reactor Story mode and I can only give Feedback to this one, but this thread should be one for the entire Fractured Update.

So going to the Thaumanova Reactor. Most of us have voted for Kiel and we are getting the Thaumanova Reactor, well some have been against it because Abaddon would be epic but I think Abaddon would be too epic for Fractals, it wouldn’t fit for the Fractal model.

Ok in the Reactor we have portals, all sorts of enemies and a few puzzles. I like the puzzles and the fact we have a good variety of enemies, but what I really like are the two bossfights. The Ooze was funny because he went from really big to tiny and there are also mechanics that punish brain afk punching. The second one was also good. Killing the floors instead of just attacking us and at the end it could be difficult for all to still stand on the plattforms, because there are many Aes killing plattforms, players are getting debuffs killing platforms and we have a laser also killing platforms. Anets ideas are getting better and better, but they should test their updates, I don’t want to relog everytime I’m dead.

Now to the Story. There are good and bad thing about the story, first the bad one. Scarlet. Seriously Anet, if you want us to recognise her as a good villian, don’t press her in all existing content. It feels like she doesn’t belong here. Ok but one positive thing about Scarlet. She sounded less childike and more serious. Keep this and not the senseless childlike behaviour.
But there is one thing I have to give the story credit. Dessa. First of all, her former krewemates are with the Inquest? And secondly, after the story part. Kiel tried to get her out of the mists, she walked through the gate and what happened? She disappears and appears right next to Kiel without remembering a thing about the fractal. WTF. What is wrong with her? Does she really exist or is she just a part of another fractal? I hope Anet will answer this one in the future.

So this is my first feedback, for this Update and in the future I will also comment on the two new fractals.^^

Even if you could kill Scarlet in a Fractal before she was born, you wouldn’t erase her existence. Fractals are no time machines. They just let you see events from the past and you can interact with elements from the past without having an impact on the future. It’s like a game thats set in the past.

Three Fractals: In addition to illuminating the strange circumstances of the Thaumanova Reactor meltdown, players can experience two more historical events thanks to further Fractals research. The Molten Furnace Fractal allows players to relive the daring raids on the Molten Alliance facilities, while the treacherous Aetherblade Fractal has players infiltrating the Aetherblade’s old base of villainy.

Two Boss Fractals: The Jade Maw of the Solid Ocean Fractal is no longer the only challenge awaiting players when they make it to the end of each set of three fractals. Special boss encounters with the Aetherblade captain Mai Trin and the two Molten Alliance champions from the Molten Facility have been added to the rotation.

Wait, it mentions the three new fractals ( Molten Facility, Aetherblade Retreat and the new Thaumanova ) and two new boss fractals and the 2 new boss fractals are the boss fights in Molten Facility and Aetherblade Reatreat. There is no need to mention them twice, or are the 2 Living Story fractals now divided into normal and bossfight fractals?

I always see people split up and let others, who are down, die only to die in the next room and I think, why do they split up? In a group they would have less problems with the content, but they keep banging their head against a wall.

Today, I was there with a three man group and it went really smoothly, in floor three, we rezzed people who were downed and they stayed with us to get this floor done and this was real fun.

Most of the people there are not only ignorant, but also selfish, as long as they can go to the top they don’t care about others.

9 time out of 10 if there is something you don’t like about gw2 it is probably because the game was rushed in the beginning or can be traced back to that reason. Gw2 needed at least another year of development.

THIS. This is the main reason why we don’t have really interesting fights. Look at the original dungeons. Some bosses have intersting ideas but they didn’t play with the idea and most of the fights feel like placeholder.
And when we look at the bounty hunt fights, the fractal fights, the ones from the temporary dungeons and the aetherpath, you can see that anet can create intersting bossfights, they only need time for this. Even the champions in the tower have mechanics suited for dungeon fights, like the Spider who can trap players and eat them.

Scarlet is an Engineer, not a Biologist. >_>

@ Draxynnic:Thats the point. Why should the Pro Scarlet faction take the arguments from the ones who dislike Scarlet seriously. They only have to see the arguments from chips and can dismiss the things that are wrong with Scarlet. The arguments or „facts“ from him aren’t really logical, I would say they come from Troll Logic, nothing to take serious.

But well, back to Scarlet. She isn’t a biologist, didn’t create the Molten Alliance weapons and Aetherblade Tech and she isn’t a mesmer ( saw this one from another in another thread ). Nothing in the game hints, that she had done such a thing. The Hybrid is a Toxic Alliance creation. The Molten Alliance Magitek was created and developed from the Alliance, same with the Aetherblade tech. Nothing from this was created by Scarlet herself. She only takes from them what is useful for her or the Aetherblades.

And I hope that the Krait will find out about the NC and their „ Prophets“ and I also want to see their reaction. It is easy to anger religious people if you play with their religion.^^

The one when the Hybrid enters his Third phase is interesting. " No you mustn’t" To whom and why? To us when we are killing him slowly or to the Hybrid itself?

It could only me, but listenig to this little one it sounds like they feared something. The Hybrid going out of control? Or us killing the Pokemon Prophet while the Krait are seeing him?

- A con to any LS: where are the dragons?

I can tell you where the other dragons are. They aren’t in Tyria anymore. After seeing the pathetic Zhaitan Fight they instantly flew to the Anet Headquarters and demanded a fight that is doing their poor friend and his epicness justice instead of the crap fight he has to endure at the moment. And now they are waiting until Zhaitan gets an epic fight.

It will be Wintersday in a few weeks panzer, this storyline of the Tower was just another filler episode in the Living World saga…. Wait, haven’t they all been filler episodes?

They’ve had small, limited time events within longer releases before. I’d be surprised if there wasn’t some sort of story once the antitoxin level maxes out and the core is supposed to be destroyed.

A real twist would be like, once the antitoxin level is high enough, the tower begins to mutate and now the bioweapon is more dangerous than ever, like we tried to destroy this thing but helped the bad guys instead. It would also make sense why Scarlet wouldn’t care about us flushing this thing with antitoxin.

But I think once we have this level high enough, the Tower is destroyed.

People continue to watch shows for the great engrossing stories and character development, which Guild Wars 2 has yet to do in their “Living World” updates…. Soon the novelty of bi-weekly updates will wear off and people will wonder, what’s the point of all of this? If I were you ANet, I’d reveal something big about Scarlet and/or her motives pretty soon or maybe you’ll find your ratings for this “TV Show” of yours to start slipping.

I hope they realised this 3 month ago and not just in the collaborative development thread, because if not, we would be stuck with no real progress in the next three months
