Great as a recap but srsly. Scarlet doesn’t kittening care. I mean, we destroyed an Airship Facility and she doesn’t care. Now we are destroying one of the most powerful bioweapons in existence and again, she doesn’t care. It doesn’t feel like we are achieving something, like it is a saturday morning cartoon. We need progress, storywise and against her.
The religion card to control the Krait isn’t that bad, I would love to see their reaction when they find out that the nightmare courtiers aren’t their prophets, but you also have to explain how they could pull this off and fast.
And for abaddons sake. Give us more information about Scarlet, the recap wasn’t bad but a few more, new, informations would harm anyone.

The Doppleganger indeed was a lot of fun, although easily exploited since the Doppleganger could easily be made to spam useless skills on your skillbar. (The Doppleganger was basically a clone of the player, with the same skills as the player)

This one was really funny. Equip you character with health sacrificing skills and watch the doppelganger killing himself.

Well that is a point I could argue about too. I think a lot of the dungeon bosses in GW2 lack phases, and proper boss tells (something we’ve had very long discussions about on its own, the topic of boss tells). Bosses are slowly getting better. Tequatl needs to scale better for instances that do not have the maximum number of players in them, but I do think he is a much better boss than the other dragon bosses.

Boss tells, yes. Something the original Bosses are really lacking. Look at the Golem in Caudecus Manor with his AOE Rocketlauncher skill hitting for massive damage. No animation. Or Kudus killing shot, you can’t really tell when he is diong it or who is the one being shot, just to pick the worst examples. Molten Berserker, Foreman Spur and Clockheart of Borg have really good Boss Tells or animations. Everytime they are doing something really dangerous or special you can see what they are doing. And now Tequatl has good tells, can take out an entire army but he isn’t impossible. He just could scale better for smaller groups. Servers who are doing Teq every day or every two hours, have no problems but other servers are screwed with him.

I think different phases would be awesome. If one Boss has a big health pool you could either invent a mechanic to make it more fun like Masticus or you can add different phases like the Lupicus Encounter, I’m not saying that Lupicus is a challenging Enounter or the best, but they did some things right. This one feels like a boss fight. and every phase feels unique. Something I’m missing from the original Bossfights.

and the new Aetherpath ist just awesome.

Unfortunately, only very few people share this opinion, compared with the ones that feel it’s terrible.

The problem with the path is that it’s just too much. Too many puzzles mainly. Most dungeon paths have 3 bosses and 1 puzzle. This path has 3 puzzles and 3 bosses, which is a little bit too much imo and makes it take way too long.

Most of the feedback I’ve senn is that this dungeon is amazing. Most of the complaints I’ve senn is the thing with the rewards and this is where I agree. 2 Gold, 60 Tokens and some blues and greens isn’t enough. For a Dungeons this long ( 30 Minutes if you are really good ) and challenging, they should have made it to 3 Gold and one guaranteed Nightmare Weapon with random stats. And the chests could drop guaranteed rares with a 5% chance for the new skins.

But with or without rewards. This dungeons is one of the best dungeons in the game with interesting and good balanced mechanics, boss fights and even the Trash isn’t really annoying.

Dropping the holy Trinity was not the mistake. Rushing the dungeons was the mistake. They did not have the time to test and polish the dungeons and well the result is the original dungeons, full of HP Sponges and hard hitting Bosses with almost no mechanics. Some fights had cool ideas but the mechanics are not complete, like the other half is just a placeholder and most boss fights feel like placeholder. They only cover the basic game mechanics. A basic Trinity fight would also be boring and Brain AFK as hell, it would be just tank and spank without paying attention to mechanics.

Now look at the fractals with cool ideas, the revamped AC bosses with working mechanics and also cool ideas. There was a step in the right direction. Molten Facility and Aetherblade Retreat were even better with unique Boss Fights and fun mechanics. The Queens Gauntlet showed some possible cool Bossmechanics and the new Aetherpath ist just awesome. We can see that Anet is learning and even the new mechanics in the Aetherpath are just the bottom of what is possible.

Well you see, the lack of trinity was not the problem, it was the lack of time and polish.

Personally only a fraction of the people dislike Scarlet. but those are, as always the people who speak out on the forums. I absolutly love the character and think she is truly a job well done.

I must day I agree with you. I really like her. Lore is not unwritten here just expanded and that has always been something that has made Guild Wars so great.

stepping all over established Krait, Dredge, Flame Legion and, even the Asura starting quest lore to shove scarlet in is not “expanding lore” its killing it and making scarlet the sole cause all the worlds woe for what? oh right a “pay off” that will tie it all together…No i rather she was the retconed one out not the lore that was there before her.

Well she didn’t step over the established Krait, Dredge, Flame Legion and especially not the Asura starting quest Lore. ( playing the first story missions would show that only the golem was sabotaged, and the Inquest tempered with the hardware itself and not the design )

To be honest. It is really dangerous for the Lore to include the Krait becuase of their xenophobic but also religious nature and I was worried that Anet would kill the Krait Lore with the Nightmare Tower Patch but as fair as I know, they played the religion card and this is a clever one. Religion is really manipulative and with it you can even force xenophobic zealots to work with other races. There is one question the game has to answer and the answer could destroy some of the krait lore or go completely fine with it. How could Scarlet ( with Scarlet I mean her and her allies ) find the obelisk shards. I would be fine with the Airship answer, but we will see.^^

Open World? Sry to dissapoint but if this is going to be open world, it will be a massive zerg event. You can see it with the last update. Normal events in Kessex that are buried by massive zergs, even if they aren’t intended to be zerg events.

Fix’d it for you

Literally everything they had to do to fix that path was make the spiders despawn after a wipe. That was everything that was wrong with it. Not to mention, F/U also had interesting mechanics and nice boss fights. Vevina was top-notch.

To be fair, the Seeker Swarm run with the buff and the water removing the buff was interesting but the bossfights weren’t really interesting. The Defiler was brain afk and while Vevina had interesting mechanics, she was nothing special. Just spamming chaos storm and teleport, and sometimes a damaging attack. Not bad but nothing outstanding or interesting.
And the last boss. The bug wasn’t the only issue, sometimes, the aggro system decided to kitten your gruop with aggriong all of the spiders at once, despite being at range and only attacking the boss.( Sometimes all spider groups did nothing while being at the same range and attacking the boss )

Ehhm, you can’t compare the Death Star with the Molten Facility or Aetherblade Retreat. The Death Star is a Space Station the size of a moon, with an air ventialtion shaft in space. The Molten Facility is well hidden and we had to dig our way in, it was a facility to build and test new weapons.

@ ThiBash: There is a difference between her gadgets and our weapons. Our characters are well trained to use the weapons to full efficency. Scarlets gadgets could be used by anyone.
Lets see what our characters have. Weapons and magic and highly proficent with it.
And lets see what Scarlet have to fight us. Weapons and I don’t see that she is skilled with them, no magic and gadgets everywhere to protect her. Her “fighting skills” are reduced to her gadgets, you can’t call it fighting skills. Her gadgets are the reasons why she is toying with us. Her skill has nothing to do with it.

She tried to kill us 3 times with different gadgets and was easly beaten every time.
She even pretty much said that we ruined her “fun”.

She didn’t even try. She was just toying with us. We came at her, all serious with all our might, and she just toyed a bit with us and then ran off, like a thief in WvW that you can never catch because of stealth.

She isn’t toying with us because of her fighting skill. She toyed with us because she has gadgets to keep her safe. Take away her gadgets and we would curb stomp her even if she would try to fight seriously.

TA Aetherpath for example. It has a chance to drop unique skins, and gives a good bit of gold. But you rarely get PUGs doing it because simply its a horrible experience in one because it actually needs co-ordination, skill and non-Zerker gear which frankly most of the playerbase don’t have.

Not quite sure what you can do about it.

TA Aetherpath is much closer to the Explo Dungeons Anet promised us ( except Arah Path 4 ) than any other Dungeon. Intersting mechanics, challenging and requiring coordination. You have even roles in this one. In the Slick and Sparky encounter, you can gain a buff that draws the attention of the ooze and you have to use it to suck up the oilfields.

Its a good example of how dungeons without trinity should be made, but sadly most of the people will ignore it because it is harder than the Call of Duty Tutorials.

Even without the holy trinity you can have good fights with team coordination. But many think that the trinity is the only way to make good bossfights. They forget one thing. The trinity has evolved over years, a decade to be precise. GW2s combat System without the trinity is in its infancy. They made many mistakes, which now lead to the Zerker or GTFO Meta. Bossfights are very simple and some are damage sponges. But seeing the encounters in the Molten Facility, Aetherbalde Retreat, Scarlets Playhouse ( yes the mechanics are more interesting than the ones from most of the bosses ) and the TA Aetherpath, we see that Anet is learning from the mistakes and using interesting and unique mechanics. The new combat system could evolve much faster than the Holy Trinity, but Anet has to learn from mistakes and keep being creative.

Krait Alliance? How?!

First Cadeyrn wanted to kill all Asura after their first contact with the Asura. ( First contact was Kudu ). He also wanted to kill the Krait children and in both cases where he asked for logic, instead of giving him a logical answer, the firstborn rather quoted the tablet. But the last strwa for him was a discussion with Caithe where she said " You are either firstborn or you are simply sylvari" like he was a second class citizen. THIS was what caused him to leave and establish the Nightmare Court to find their true nature. The Krait thing is not his only reason. But now, Cadeyrn is dead and most NC member don’t care about his motivations.

Second. The Krait allying with another faction is really hard to explain and it could destroy their lore if not handled carefully, but from what i have seen, it could be much worse. If we take a look into the Krait lore ( the full Lore not some things while ignoring the rest ), we see that they are really xenophobic yes, but also highly religious, its even stronger than their xenophobic believes, and they have priests that lead them, the Oratuss. The fact that the Krait don’t have a written language plays right in the hand of the Oratuss, they can change their religious texts to their needs. Lore wise, they have the ability to retcon parts of their religion, and with enough time alter it to such degree that they formed a new religion.
If you can convince the Oratuss to works with you without being killed on sight, well you could have an army of Krait, because no Krait would question the Oratuss.

The problem there ist, how could someone convince the Oratuss to work with outsiders, even with the offer of Obelisk shards? This one has to be answered and this answer could either kill the lore or be completely good with it.

Anet left this one open. It is possible that there are obelisks high enough to have some of it above the surface. There is even concept art showing some Obelisks above the surface.. But right, nothing is outright said about this. But if think it is more than possible. It would even make sense on how Scarlet could gather these shards from the obelisks.

The new lore NPC says that they’re massive (forgot her exact words, but that’s the gist of it.) And while they may be ripped from the obelisks, that still doesn’t answer how Scarlet got them- it’d be even harder for her to track down little pieces of the things.

It does answer how she could get them. The Obelisks are massive and i believe that their top is above the water. It is impossible for the Krait to get there, it is impossible for everyone. Everyone but 2 Factions. The Pact, and the Aetherblades. They have Airships. And it is possible that the Aetherblades flew to one of the Obelisks and gathered some shards from them.

Actually the NPC don’t confirm it.
It is only said that it SEEMS to be Scarlet (which is of course very likely, but it is not actually confirmed).

And it comes to my mind to ask, how exactly did Scarlet get those obelisk shards from (logical assumption here) the depths of the ocean, where (another assumption) Bubbles is partying and chased away the Krait in the first place?

Nothing said they just went to the depths of the ocean. Considering they are Obelisk Shard it would be logical to assume that they ripped them from one of the real obelisk. ( and no one knows how tall they are. Anet left that open )

ToN goes against what we know of Krait

Finding the Shards is not a problem. Well it is rather easy. The real problem is to get to the shards without being killed by DSD minions, it is impossible for the Krait to get to the Obelisks and the shards because of the DSD. That leads to the other Question. How could Scarlet recovered some of the shards? My answer is the Aetherblades. They have a way to get to the Obelisks. Airships. They could just fly to them, cut the Obelisks into small pieces and fly back with the shards. No big deal for the Aetherblades.

But there is another problem. Even with the Shards, there is a risk that the Krait would butcher them ( NC, Scarlet or whoever was there to build the alliance ) for defiling their sacred shards. They had to minimize the risk. The Krait religion and society is weakpoint they could exploit. The Orratus are the leader of the Krait. If the Orratus say, we are building an „alliance“ to get our prophets back, no Krait would object. The problem is, how it is possible to settle a deal with the Orratus without being killed on sight? Perhaps the Mesmer behind the Veil is the answer. He could just subtly manipulate the Orratus, so they wouldn’t attack the one who bring them the shards.

The one thing that makes any villain great, is when the villain has enemies that are not the good guys. Right now it feels like Scarlet would work together with anybody.

Which is a large part of the reason why the likelihood that we’re getting a krait/NC alliance brokered by Scarlet is causing such a backlash. From what we’d been given before, it seemed that the Nightmare Court would regard the krait as enemies, possibly more than they regard the PCs as enemies in the case of NC members that actually genuinely believe the ideology rather than being in it for the evulz.

Well if we look at the way the NC members act and the Twilight Arbor dungeon, we could see that almost no one in the NC believes in their ideology. The 3 high ranking member of the court we are fighting don’t give two kittens about their ideology. And Faolain is using the court for her own amusement. The one who cared about, Cadeyrn, is dead.

There may be some NC member who fight for their ideology but with faolain as leader, chances are that they are in the minority

They’re not nightmare weapons, it’s Sylvari Cultural weapons.

Eh, I’m quite tired with the whole “A wild Scarlet appears.” She only ever does any amount of damage because her antics are unknown.

We’ve known about her for a while now, we need to start figuring out her antics before she’s ready to reveal her plan and cause havoc. And she still needs to be a threat then.

My issues with Scarlet can be summed up in four parts – from most important to least (and all are very big issues):

  • She’s a one-note song. All about combining groups that wouldn’t work together (thus breaking their lore), or popping out at celebrations. Change it up a bit.

Well, first case of combining groups and breaking their lore would be if the Krait are really working with her

  • We get too little too slow. Plot needs to develop a bit faster. Not saying “more content faster” but rather “the content needs to be juicier in story context.”

True. We get nothing about this plot. Anet is hiding too much about it, they should give us more informations.

  • Not a threat. She isn’t; at all. As said above, the only way she does damage is by her – or her forces – appearing out of the proverbial thin air. She’s a threat because we, the good guys, don’t know until it’s too late. When we find out, her plans go down the drain faster than it takes to flush a toilet. Which returns to the no development point, as her plans fail time and time again, leading her to be akin to a Saturday morning cartoon or a returning comic book villain. Team Rocket made more interesting foes.

Even Team Rocket has more long term success.
There are two things we need to make it more interesting. First, let one of her plans succeed, let us arrive too late or play right in her hands. To be a threat, she must achieve something against us. If all her plans goes downhill the time we come then no one can take her or her plans serious.
Second. Let us have some indication that we achieve something. Look at Twilight Arbor Aetherpath. Look what we did, shutting down an entire Airship facility. This isn’t some small achievement. Cutting down supply lines and destroying facilities, are really important tasks, because they cripple the enemy. But does it feel like we did some damage to Scarlets plans. No, because she didn’t care about the destruction of an entire Airship Facility which is ridiculous. Airships are high tech warmachines and being crippled to build them is serious business, but she laughs it off like it was nothing. Let her go OOC. No more " I don’t care". Let her yell at us, let her fill with anger about the failed plan.

I am still waiting for that supposed data-mined proof that Scarlet is behind this.

I’m waiting too. I mean I could just say things like " saw in a few threads that people found out, through datamining, that Gaheron Bealfire is returning and leading the Krait as a prophet to burn uhhm drown all lesser creatures and infidels" and leave just without any link or proof, but at the right time, well most players would believe this.

Their glow is somewhat similar to that of Husks. They might have been enhanced in some ways with Nightmare magic.

Or corrupted. The teaser says something about whipsered promises and madness, which sounds like corruption.

I’ve always been quite interested in the Krait. Every other race apart from the Dragons have some sort of reason to kill, destroy or war on someone else, may I be vengeance, power, domination or land.

The Krait seems to just kill just because they want to, you never even get a slight impression why they do the things they do.

You are wrong, krait are capturing and sacrificing other races due to their religion, also they were pushed back by Deep Sea Dragon and need some territory. Apart from that, they are xenophobic race just like the Dredge.

The Dredge aren’t that xenophobic. Look at the Dredge Rebels, they gladly take help from outsiders. The only xenophobic Dredge are the ones from the Moletariat and their leaders are using this to control the Dredge and even they ally themself with the Inquest or the Flame Legion.

But the Krait? Xenophobic to the extreme. They would gut anyone trying to approach them. Their allies must be tied to their religion. Perhaps they are the Krait Prophets

After seeing that page about a “previously unseen ally”(Hint wink nudge Scarlet) my heart sank.

I am quite sure that Scarlet is not a “previously unseen ally” since she has been seen quite a bit. Previously unseen would suggest it is something new.

Scarlet is off the table this time, good, I don’t hate her but this would make no sense to be the allies of the Krait. Also the theme is different. No magitek, much darker and look at the Krait at 0:20. They look different, like they are corrupted or these are the Krait Prophets. The first one is interesting, because of the name and the shard in the screen. While looking at the first, i have to ask another question. Why is this one in DR? Was it always there and phased out with ancient magic or did someone took it to DR?

Gaheron finally spends some silver to teleport himself to a waypoint to rez himself instead of having acolytes rez him. Must be Scarlet!!!!

To be serious. I don’t mind Scarlet. She isn’t the best villian but far from being the worst. I’d like to see some more informations about her like her motivations, but if we would kill her right now, I’wouldn’t mind. At least this fight will be more epic than the Zhaitan endfight. ^^

Or not. Scarlet havng allied with the Krait would be the biggest lore break in GW2. The Krait would try to gut and eat her on sight.

But we have 2 new screenshots about the next update and one is called Krait-Obelisk-Shard. Perhaps they found something they consider sacred and tied to their prophet and now they are trying to build a new obilisk to honor their prophet. Cutting down the trees around the lake would make sense. Building something like an obilisk with junk to get high enough would be stupid. The junk wood would break and so they need something to work with to get high enough without the danger to break and kill the ones who are working at the building.

But now we have other questions to ask. How did they aquire the shard, or did they take some shards with them the time they fled the DSD? If so, why now? Did they wait to find something related to the prophet?

I will admit, I’m definitely curious. Hopefully this has nothing to do with Scarlet and at least something to do with the impending threat of the elder dragons that we seem to have completely forgotten.

Perhaps the Krait found an Elder Dragon Artifact and they think its a sacred Item from their Prophet and now they are building something like an obelisk to honor their prophet.^^

To people that are saying the Krait may have allied themselves to Scarlet Briar, I completely disagree with you. The Krait are very xenophobic and will enslave or kill all other species on sight. Why would they affiliate themselves to Scarlet? That is ridiculous. And if the krait did ally themselves that will make Scarlet the ultimate Villain Sue.

To Arena Net, I am impressed. We need more of this living and breathing in game, though. Please put more in game for future Living Worlds and not just the upcoming patch.

The dredge and flame legion were pretty xenophobic too but that didn’t stop them from following little miss perfect around.

Not trying to dispute your point, I really hope scarlet isn’t involved in this, all I’m saying is there’s a precedent for her flying in the face of established lore, logic and reason.

Yes the Dredge and Flame Legion are xenophobic, but it isn’t unlikely fot them, to build the Molten Alliance under Scarlet. It was a dire situation for them when they founded it. ( Dredge Moletariat facing a revolution, and some very important persons dead. Flame Legion facing war against an enemy too powerful. Even Gaheron as a god couldn’t win it. )

But the Krait. They are xenophobic to the extreme. They kill, eat and sacrifice every non Krait they see. It’s impossible for Scarlet to work with them, they would just attack her on sight. Perhaps this one is a prelude to another Living Story Arc that will come after the Scarlet Arc.

I really like it how Anet changed Kessex. Little or big changes, foreshadowing events are a good way to make this world more living and less static. I wish you could do that more frequently Anet

Twilight Arbor. Sorrow’s Embrace, Crucible of Eternity, and Honor of the Winds all don’t properly scale to the world map’s distancing.

Those dungeon instances where the internal dungeon is larger than the external dungeon is merely a case of different size scalings.

To get an idea of the scaling, you just have to go to HOTW P2. There you can see the coast, which is really far away. The distance is huge, you wouldn’t get there within seconds, its more likely that it would take you at least 10 minutes to get there.

HOTW: The entire Dungeon. Boss mechanics are boring, and they have a ridiculous HP pool. They are the pure definition of a HP-Sponge. Nothing special, just boring and annoying as hell. ( Hello Ginva cleave )

CoF 1: Too short, too easy and too rewarding. This is a Fast Food Dungeon, wait it would insult the other dungeons to call it a dungeon. Oh and sometimes, half of the group can’t see the freking rocks.

CM1: Did Anet expect us to fight Perma Knockback Seamus in this small room? Really? His shot is a knockback with some damage, but he can shoot fast enough to hold you in this knockback. Second boss is boring. No damage, just HP. You could go afk for some minutes and kill him. And Frost? An attack which is far bigger than the animation, does some damage and chills you? Oh and this is his auto attack. -.-

Oakheart isn’t really too hard. Indeed there are some bugs they need to fix, like the generator teleport stuff. But if you understand the Oakheart, it is not too hard.

And Spur needs fixing? Why?

The Clockheart fight is a steaming pile of frustration at the end of a dungeon that is already too kitten long. It needs to lose at least one major mechanic, preferably those stupid spinning gears, to be an enjoyable challenge.

Srsly you want a major mechanic to be removed? What is wrong with you guys.

The Clockheart fight is a really good fight, you just have to understand the mechanics of this fight. He throws his spinning gears if you are going to range him. Meele this half piece of Borg technology and you wouldn’t have to bother with his spinning gears. It is a really enjoyable fight.

@ Lalocat: The last fight isn’t too hard. There is enough time to kite the boss to the holograms and pull these walking bombs into the boss. The boss punishes the entire group if you screw up at this task and its easy to pull the holograms with crowd control to the boss. This is something more bosses should do, punishing entire groups if they fail at some tasks.

Dungeon is way too hard.

I wish people would go back and watch some of the pre-launch videos with the devs talking about explorable dungeon modes.

These modes were supposed to be the “rock-hard” group experience in the game, and it was specifically noted that the paths will not be easy/cater to casuals.
I know over time things like this get lost as people figure out efficient ways to play, but the fact still stands that these modes are supposed to be how new TA is. If anything, the rate at which groups are blasting through the current content in minutes is the design flaw, not the difficulty of the new encounters.

Remember the time, where CoF1 was too hard for everyone because of the boss and players demanded a hard nerf?

I know how explorable dungeons should be. Challenging and hard. Like Anet advertised them, but we can see what we have now. A rushed mess with countless exploits, mechanics not working, really bad mechanics, hp sponges or trash mobs that are more dangerous than the bosses. But now with the new TA path, finally we get a great permanent dungeon. Wish we had dungeons like the aetherpath at release.
