Well every Class can tank but most Groups prefer Chronotanks because the Chrono DPS itself is kitten and you aren’t sacrificing any DPS by making the Chrono a Tank.

Still, its possible for every Class to Tank some have to sacrifice more DPS than other but it will still be enough for the Group to kill every Boss with a Toughness Tank.

Difference is, you could do your own lfg in dungeons with no such restrictions, it would fill relatively fast, and you’d still succeed. Raids on the other hand pretty much force you into this kind of behaviour if you want a reasonable chance of succeeding.

Still not sure though if what you pointed out is what OP had problems with.

Don’t know what you are talking about, I’ve organized my own raids and won several times. Better yet, join a raid learning guild and learn with them. I did, and we’ve won as a group several times as well.

Sure I’ll come with my bearbow/gs ranger that I done all the dungeons on with no problem…. Ofcourse you will let me into your raid group without changing anything right?

Like Legacy said. LFR doesn’t Prepare you for Raiding. You can have half of the Raid sitting there AFK and still kill the Bosses. One Time both Tanks were AFK and I ended up Tanking the Boss for a good Time as a Hunter before one of the got Back. You don’t have to fear dying because everything is doing next to no Damage ( with some exceptions ).
So yeah the LFR prepared you for Raiding the same Way Shatterer ( before his update ) prepares you for GW2 Raiding.

Also due to noone there using Voice Chat and mostly running like Headless Chicken it also feels a bit like you were playing a Singleplayer Game.

And Blizzard is doing another Mistake with LFR, giving them the same Tier Sets you also get in normal Raiding. Depending on the Set Bonusses, it could be mandatory for People to also go for LFR just to get the Set Bonus.

And LFR is giving the WoW a really bad Rep, despite Blizzard developing some of the hardest Raidbosses the Game has ever seen. I’ve seen quite a few Times that People said that WoW Raiding is so easy you could just AFK everything.

As long as we don’t get Things like WoW LFR ( Biggest Mistake of Blizzard in Terms of Raiding ) and as long as Anet is learning from every Encounter they create, I see a good Future for Raiding in GW2. Right now they are just scratching the Surface on what is possible and with more Experience they go deeper and deeper and we get more complicated and unique Bosses.

Think there are a couple of things at work here.

Arguably, Wing 1 and 2 were harder by a large margin. Wing 3 was easier due to the escort, and the ability to negate couple of Keep Construct’s mechanics. Xera is pretty easy for a final boss once groups figure out the tanking pattern and break her breakbar quickly.

One possibility is, ArenaNet was experimenting with difficulty to try to get a wide spectrum to see what players wanted. Personally, I’d like for all of the encounters to be as mechanically challenging as Matthias, a boss which still gives some groups trouble. Now that they’ve gotten a spectrum of difficulty, they can tune future bosses to an ideal difficulty that players want.

The other possibility for why raids have become easier: Players have gotten better. Mechanics were basically recycled, so most players who’ve been raiding for a while know what to do when certain things happen. That’s probably why it took very little time for the bosses to be cleared – people knew what to do within a couple of attempts and all it took was a bit of practice to refine the techniques.

Moving forward, the raid team has more feedback on what players expect, and it will be interesting to see how future raids turn out.

I think its both. Raids in GW2 are really fresh and new. Anet right now is in a good position to experiment with Mechanics, the Boss difficulties etc. just to see what works and what will not work. Due to experimenting we had a big kittenblocker with Slothasor ( Pre Nerf ) being the first Boss of a Wing and a complete Joke Encounter after that. An easy Encounter like the Siege would be really good for a first Raid Encounter. But Anet will get more and more experience with how to make Raids and perhaps we will see some really complicated and really hard Encounters. ( Matt is a step in the right direction )

Also the Players got much better. Remember that SALT did clear Wing 2 in less Time than it took Top Guilds to kill Gorseval. Does it mean that Gorse is much harder than Wing 2? Hell no. Gorseval is a really easy Boss, you just need to dodge one Attack and the Eggs and then do your Rotation. Back when Wing 1 was released. People were experimenting much and figuring out good Raid compositions and much more important. They were completeley new to Raiding and not used to it.

Also yes Anet is recycling some Mechanics. While I don’t mind the Fixate, the Bomb was recycled too much. Having it on Sabetha? Awesome. On Matt? Ok? Now with just more People affected by it, can live with it. On KFC? Come on you can do better its just the Bombs on Matt just bigger and with a longr fuse. If you use old Mechanics then alter them enough to make them fresh. Change their behaviour. Like you did with Volatile Poison from Sloth and Well of the Profane from Matt. Both damaging Debuffs that leave an AOE Field when expired or dropped. But the Poison is a growing AOE Field while the Well being a static one.

Solution is way more simpler than what was proposed above. Simply remove the time-gates and add tier loot based upon the time the raid takes down the boss.

This is why I don’t see LI as any legit Requirement for Raiding. Its too easy to fake it. And yes if you fake it you should be able to pull your weight otherwise the others will notice, but still its not reliable.

And sometime I see requirements that are just like the 20k AP on CoF1 that were around before HoT. 100+LI on VG? Training Run only EXP? With such ludicrous LI requirements I can see why People are faking their LI. I would totally do it if I would have to rely on PuGs

Was Sabetha really just a Merc or was she a White Mantle Operative under Disguise? The Way she speaks about “only the Worthy are taken into the Compound” and the Fact that she was the Mentor of Narella ( who was White Mantle, just read her Journal ) gives me the Impression that Sabetha was a White Mantle Operative who used the Bandit Cover to operate outside of the Stronghold.

Don’t forget that the Higher Ups of the Bandits are either taking their Orders from some White Mantle Guy or are White Mantle themselves, depending on how important the Task is.

No Fixation Sound at Sloth and KC

Hi,

Normally when fighting Slothasor you get a small “beep” when he begins to Fixates you. But since the introduction of Wing 3 there is no more Sound on a Fixation at Slothasor. The Sound was really helpful because you have so many Visual Noise there which makes it hard to see if you are fixated.
At KC we ( my Raiding Group ) thought that it was intended for the Fixation to have no Sound but since the Bombs ( which everyone gets ) have a Sound and the Fixation Sound at Sloth vanished I’m sure that this is unintended and a Bug.

What I’m saying is that the Fights itself don’t add anything substantional to the Story. You want to experience the Story? Go into a Cleared Instance, you are meant to read the Stuff if you want to experience the Story. Reading about it is the same as experiencing it.

Also Raids are very accessible, you have no Gear Score attunments etc preventing you from entering them.

I could say that in the Raid we are

Wrecking some Pylons
Meeting up with a Hentai Monster
Seducing a Hot Chick
Sleeping with a Mutant after eating too many Muschrooms
Giving 3 Bandits what they want ( Berg his Honey, Zane a bit Playtime with his Wargs and Narella the Funeral Pyre she always wanted )
Using a Backscratcher to scratch some Crystals off Matthias Back
Calling our Ten good Men
Trashing some Rubble
And finally having Glider Malfunctions high up in the Air.

And It would still be accurate for all the Boss Fights, since the Boss Fights reveal nothing. ( Still awesome the Bossfights )

That there would be White Mantle Stuff in the Story somewhere is known since LS2 with the Silverwastes. You have White Mantle Badges in SW and a few Pieces of Paper there, one talking about New Kryta and the Forts were abandoned because of Mordremoth.

For a tiered System the Raid Team needs to be bigger, which quite a few People here would Rage against, since they want the Raid Team disbanded.
There is a Core Team of 5 Devs working only on Raids and the Team itself is never bigger than 10. Anet is not Blizzard who has a big Team for Raids and thus being able to make multiple difficulty Tiers.

Every Mode has to be balanced so it isn’t too easy or too difficult for that Difficulty Tier and Balancing is not just tweaking Damage and Health Numbers its also changing Mechanics to make them more (un)forgiving more frequent less frequent, their effects etc etc. For Anet its not feasable right now to do that Extra Work.

And a Story Mode without Rewards? After a short Time it would be really hard to find People interested for Story Mode.

If they cannot do it right, then they shouldn’t do it. The negative impacts (splintering the community, walling off important story steps, etc) just aren’t worth it.

That said, I think expanding raids to be more inclusive is worth the investment (and I’m not convinced that investment would be as large as people think).

So you want Anet to drop Raid Development because you can’t get an easy Mode?

Sounds pretty selfish.

Its never too late. There are quite a few Training Groups in LFG ( mostly at the End of the Week ) and there are also many Raiding Guilds who invest Time and Effort into training People for Raids.

@ Vinceman: I don’t think it was nice to Point out a Players Mistakes in the Forum here.
But TBH if I would make a Run with EXP Only and then also Tell the Mechanics and if someone screws up on Fixates or Poison multiple Time I’am seriously doubting that this Player is EXP and if he would not answer to me then.,I would assume that this Player just wants to get carried which results in a Kick.

Haven’t seen the twisted Castle or Xera but I can comment on the Siege and KC.

Siege ( I don’t need an Army, I just need en good Men ):

Event is like Trio but much more Fun, a good Entry Encounter for the Wing. Just would like to see a range Indicator for Glenna, other than that, Event is completely Fine.

Keep Construct ( Or Keep Fortification Construct just to have KFC ):

Boss Fight itself is really Fun but has some issues:

Fixation Sound is bugged, no one gets a Sound when he is Fixated ( also bugged on Sloth right now ). You should Fix that.

Toughness Tank getting Fixation screws Fixation over. When the Boss is stunned, in the Air or doing his Cone Shaped Attack ( called Pizza in my Raid Group ) the Toughness Tank can be fixated by a Ghost which by itself is not the Problem. It will become a Problem when the Construct aggroes on the Toughness Tank. When the Tank gets the Aggro from the Boss he loses the Fixation and the one who is fixated by another Ghost can also get a Fixation by the other Ghost, which will result in a Merge because the Ghost will now sprint to the new Fixation Tank. It is really messy and should be changed so that Fixation RNG can’t screw up the Groups attempt.

Green Circles vanish before the Effect goes off, is a bit confusing.

Minions attacking the Football Core can mess up with the attempt to get 5 Stacks and Minions, Pets, Clones etc just love to attack the Core. Make it so that Minion attacks don’t push the Ball.

Cone AOE during a Bomb looks too messy with the effects, i think giving the Cone attacks telegraph a different Color and making that Telegraph overlap the others so it can be seen would make thinks a bit less messy.

And don’t forget KC. Bigger amounts of Players can make it harder for the Football Phase, also KC’s Bombs are quite large and the Area is a bit small. More People means, less Space to spread to be safe. Either only 10 get the Bombs or the Bombs need to be smaller.

Its not just Numbers that needs to be tweaked, certain Mechanics need to be Changed or otherwise the Mechanics could become a Joke or just broken.

And why are People still talking about the Timers? Raids don’t fail because of Timers. Raids fail because of Mechanics.

Hi, just wanted to ask.

Does anyone else have the Problem that the Fixation has no Sound since Wing3?

I did Sloth yesterday with a good Group and no one in the Group could hear the Sound when he was Fixated which was a bit of a Problem since we have adjusted to the Sound to react fast.

Ok while Fighting i noticed something with his Buff for the CC Bar.

First it seems that Ghosts not ripping a Stack of his Buff is random, but everytime KC jumps and a Ghost dies at the same Time the Construct doesn’t lose a stack, this is what i’ve observed, can someone confirm this?

Easier? Well the first Encouter is Easy but try Keep Construct, this Thing is a Coordination and Awareness Check stacked with a CC Check in the Football Phase. I would say that Keep Construct is somewhere between Sabetha and Matthias in terms of Difficulty.

I
1) Change the loot system to be tiered based. You can base it upon the speed the group defeats the boss. This would allow impromptu groups a chance at success for less loot than the hardcore who can squash the boss super fast and get superb loot as a reward. No more stupid time-gate. Problem solved allowing a much larger player base participate , why this hasn’t been implemented for not only raids, but world bosses escapes me. ANET YOU CAN DO THIS!

Enrage Timer is not a Problem at Boss Fights. Players have more than enough DPS to kill these Bosses on Time

Next two are wish lists:
1) Make bosses more strategic in nature. Have the boss change their abilities, boon structure, defensive abilities, etc. based upon the class structure of the group of PCs fighting them. This would make raids, world bosses so much more unique for each gameplay for the player base and solve the one big issue of people learning the boss too fast and making it a simple zero-fest thing (like Tequatl now). At first you can do this upfront by noting the class balance of the group going against the boss. This approach can easily be tested through monte-carlo simulations.

Would be Nightmare to Balance, there are quite a few Compositions in Raids only. You would have to Balance everything, what Set Up gets which Abilities etc etc. And knowing Players the Composition would change to the one which is easiest. Too much work for having one Result. The Perfect Group. Which is not what we want

2) Make bosses adaptable during the actual fight. Instead of always going through the same phases, have them change their capabilities, attacks, defenses depending on the success of the group going against them. This would introduce new things like for instance, mood of the boss, etc. impacting the fight.
It’s been 20years and why developers haven’t advance beyond linear stack mechanics behind time-gates is extremely disappointing.

How far should the Boss adapt to the Players? Like a Players? Even if the Bossfight has only a bit of Adaptility, you need to write Proper AI for it and AI Development isn’t easy, its Draining CPU Power and with 10 People fighting a Boss you need something to Adapt to the Group as whole. Its just not practical.

The Fixation Switch is really annoying. Had the Switch soem times when the Ghosts were spawning. Players were reaction fast and moving to their initial Fixates but then get screwed over by the Switch which makes Ghosts more likely to Fuse because Reaction to that needs to be even faster. That should be fixed.

Rushed out Story like the last Story Chapter in HoT, and cut Content like the Nigthmare Court Content for HoT.

You have Guys working on the next Expansion now. Take your Time and flesh out the Story. You improved on Storytelling with HoT ( still average ), improve more and give the Story the quantity it needs. Don’t Rush Parts of the Story just to get it done. Rushing out will decrease the overall Quality.

Legendary weapons

New legendary weapons need:
- model
- effects
- footfalls
- aura
- thematic collections for the precursor and one of the gifts for the Gift of [weapon name]
- optional background story (Chuka and Champawat)

Black Lion Skins need:
- model
- optional effects

Gliders need:
- model
- optional effects

The effort for new legendary weapons is much higher than just weapon skins or gliders.

You’ll be hard pressed to convince me that cancelling content people paid for ALREADY in favour of churning out more cash shop content is due to some supposed discrepancy in effort required.

Because the Guys on the Leg Weapon Team are now working for Black Lion Skins

Do you really think that? Black Lion Skins aren’t new.

The Guys on the Leg Weapon Team have been moved to the Living World section and are now adding small Events every two Weeks.

What Miellyn did was comparing the work needed for a Legendary Weapon with its Precursor Collection, with Creating Black Lion Skins or Glider Skins and Creating the Skins alone isn’t that much of Work for Anet.
Getting the Collection right is much more Work since everythin in the Collection must tie in to the theme of the Legendary, be tested etc etc. The Collection is the Thing that needs Time.

I have yet to see any proof that raids have been successful. I have provided plenty of proof of raids being terrible for this game but typical raiders refuse to listen to reason.

Why is DR weak? DR is a big fortfied City and even with Magic you need to lay Siege on it. Or do it like the Aetherblades and use Airships

And the Centaurs were close in getting to DR at the Beginning of the Personal Story in Sheamor, after that they were being pushed back by the Seraph and us with the Result that the Modniir King Ulgoth, the driving Force of the Centaur War, has been killed. Getting your Leader killed is a MAJOR Setback and can get a Faction destroyed, but since the Queen mentioned Centaurs raiding the Lands it looks like that the Modniir have a new Leader now and they are trying to prolong the War. We don’t know if thats only the Modniir or if they could hold the Centaur Alliance together. We could use some updates here. But it is clear that they aren’t in that favourable Position, they held at the Beginning of GW2, anymore.

Raids will not survive in there current format. Raids are killing this game.

I believe this will be the last Raid that we see like this, data shows that raids are played by an extremely small portion of the community. There is no way the devs are going to keep wasting resources on a game mode that no one likes and no one plays.

I predict that in the future we will see raids 2.0, hey will keep calling them Raids to keep the elitists happy, however there will be an easier mode for the other 99% of players. “Dungeon Mode” perhaps.

Ok show us the Data or otherwise your Post is nothing but Bullcrap.

In the AmA Anet told us that Raids are very successful and a bigger % of Players Raid in GW2 then in other MMOs.

I Raided in WoW and the Raiding in WoW felt nothing like the Raiding we have in GW2. So no returning to WoW here.

Why would people invest over 1000g for something that only increases 2-3% in the stats? Juste because people don’t have it doesn’t mean they suck and shouldn’t raid, I cleared the 1st wing with ascended trinkets only and there was no timer issue at all, so please stop saying it’s required or anything even for a dumb Vale Guardian, maybe for tank or healer but certainly not for DPS and condis…

Which shows that Asc. Armor is even less important. So, before even looking at Asc. Armor it is better to make a second or Third Charactar Raid Ready with Weapons and Trinkets ( which are Accountbound so you don’t need a Set per Character )

Unless you’re soloing the raids, 2-3% x10 more damage is a pretty big difference.

Still just a 2-3% DPS Increase at best. Not really worth it to Craft Asc. Armor.

Dungeons were hard when they first came out. People didn’t know what to do. But they learned, and dungeons became easy.

So you are saying that the raids are no more difficult to complete than the dungeons? That has not been my experience with them. I spent three hours trying to clear Gorseval last night and didn’t get even halfway through it. I don’t recall ever spending that long on a dungeon boss.

I think you misunderstood my Post. I never said that Raids were or are easy. What I posted was about the comparision that some People use with Dungeons and how hard they were but not considering that back then we knew nearly nothing about the Game and the Mechanics. ( All Combofields, even the Firefields for Might Stacking were considered Trash for example ) and how that Comparison isn’t Legit because we had a different Situation back then.

Selling the game to casuals for 3 years, then suddenly turning a 180 with HoT to sell to more “traditional” MMO customers… you just end up losing both types of gamers.

Why do I see that 180 turning Argument everytime Anet includes something thats a bit more Challenging than the Rest? Or when something new gets introduced?
Seen this Argument at Fractals, Ascended everything, LS1 LS2 Tequatl, Triple Trouble, Removing of the Rezz Rushing Strat etc. Anet must be spinning like Crazy now.

And no, the Game wasn’t selled as a Casual only Game. It was selled as a Casual Friendly Game ( which GW2 still is ) that also has Hardcore Content for the ones who seeks the Challenge. Dungeons Explo Mode were their first Vision of true Challenging Content and you see how well that worked. The Dungeons and other Attempts all had their Share of Problems nd now Anet is creating Raids to include the Challenging Content. And so far the Raid Wings are doing a good Job.

Raids right now are what Explo Dungeons were meant to be.

Actually there is more mechanics in dungeons than fractals or raids.
Raids are very static, scripted and will be easier than dungeons.

If you look at CM P1 – there are 3 unique bosses with 3 unique sets of mechanics.
In fractals – its trash, trash mobs then boss.

Well that was a very good Joke.

After this laugh we can go to something serious again^^

The same thing will happen to raids. Wing 1 is getting there. Wing 2 is hard right now because it’s new.

Well Dungeons were hard then not only because People didn’t know how to play the few Mechanics of the Bosses but much more important, they didn’t know how to play the Game at all. GW2 was new back then and People were still learning to play this Game at all and not putting in their Standard MMO Thinking into the Game.

When Raids were put in most Poeple knew what their Classes could do and they got used to the GW2 way of playing. So it is a bit difficult to compare the Situation back then and the Situation now.

But you are right overall. Everything is a Matter of Practice. And I think that most People here in the Community have the capability to beat the Raid with enoug Practice and a bit of Determination.

@ Ohoni: Balancing isn’t easy. It is something you need to put work into it, especially for an Easy Mode for a Raid. You can’t just say " Take this and lower the Values ", because all it will do is to mess up the Encounter. Make it too easy and you have an Encounter where you can Skip the Mechanics. Just 50% Damage or lower for every messed up Green Circle at VG? If anything else is also lowered you can just ignore this.

Gorsevals World Eater not a Group Wipe? Well just tank it, put in one or two Skills for better Survival on Demand or, even better, a Shroud and you can flat out ignore it.
Matthias Sacrifice not a One Shot? Don’t bother, we can Rezz you and at the Meantime bash on the Boss

Same with Bombs, Volatile Poison Flamewalls etc, just reducing the Values or making them not One Shots, will make certain Mechanics useless, like the Regen Crystals on CoF P1 Boss.

You’ll need to know what to lower, in what Amount, what to do with certain Skills etc etc. Its not something you can just put in a few Hours in and say " This is Ready for Easy Mode" because with just a few Hours, you will just have an unbalanced Mess or even worse, LFR Difficulty for everyone.

You also need Testing and you need the right People for it. Raiders from Guilds that are going for World Firsts or things like No Updraft Gorse, are not the ones you want to test for Easy Mode, because these Players will just curbstomp this Mode, you need People who are just average at this Game to test this. Now find these Players who are just average and not too good or too bad.

You see Balancing isn’t easy and for a good Easy Mode you need to hit the Right Balance. Too easy and welcome LFR. Too hard and you can just go to normal Mode.

You might want to change that, “you,” to an, “I,” if you want to be honest and/or accurate. Perhaps you do not play GW2 for raids, and luckily raids receive only a very tiny portion of the game’s development resources, but others do.

So you think there are people that played GW2 for over 3 year only because of raids ?

Makes me wonder how many people play GW2 only because of its fantastic housing,
open PvP or flying mounts ^^

The Thing is Anet advertised the Game not only with Casual Friendly Open World but also Explorable Dungeons as Hardcore Content. Content for the ones who are willed to put in effort in their Builds, Organisation and etc..
The Raidwings we have now are what Dungeons were supposed to be.

Wildstar didn’t fail because of Raids, the Game had many issues. ( Server Problems, PVP was really kitten and Endgame PVE was inaccessible for many )

Both Games, GW2 and WS, handle their Content different.
Just to look at Raids: WS Raids were considered one of the Hardest Raids in the Genre but also one of the most inaccessible Raids since WoW Classic. 40 Man Groups and heavily relying on attunements. It was Rading for those who liked it the way back then, but with mechanics of today.
Now to GW2. GW2 Raid Wings ( since we only have two third of one Raid ) aren’t easy. They are right now the hardest PVE Content in the Game. But they are also very accessible. You just need a LvL 80 Character and HoT to go into the Raid instance, the Gear you should bring is very easy to get, so it isn’t really a Problem. Also with just 10 Man it is on the lower Scale of what you need to bring.

But well Raiding is blamed for Wildstar failing and despite this Anet brings in Raids.
Why? Why are they bringing in a Feature that many consider it the Reason for anoter Game to fail miserably. Well first, as Anet saw it: Its not the Raiding itself that brings Problems but how you implement them so they implemented it with being accessibility in Mind. ( srsly even LFR Raiding in WoW has more Requirements than Gw2 Version of Raiding )

Second and this will surprise some People ( since I often see People claiming that Anet never wanted to bring in hard Content ): Since the Beginning of GW2 Anet wanted to have Content in the Game for the so called " Hardcore Players ". Hard Content that can only be beaten with Skill, good Builds and Coordination. Guess what their first attempt was. Explorable Dungeons. These were meant to be the Hard Content. Content that wasn’t there for the lower skilled Players, they even advertised this Fact multiple Times. But guess what happened after Release? Players complained everywhere that Dungeons were way too hard and impossible as a Casual. Well to be honest in 2012 the Game was so different that not only we had to learn the Mechanics of the Dungeons ( if they were there xD ) but more importantly the Mechanics of the Game itself. Dungeons were not expected to be difficult, and this was a Problem. ( well and Balancing, polishing etc )

I think the next attempt was the Release of the Fractals but something in Anet shifted.

In the late 2013 there came a new Dungeon which was the closest to the Vision Anet had in Dungeons. But this also didn’t went well. Rewards aside People felt that the Boss Fights were too gimmicky ( or what other would call, Real Mechanics that set them apart from the old Dungeon Bosses ) and that Puzzles, which were coordination checks and were teaching about Boss Mechanics, had no Place there. And that the Cutscenes were unskippable didn’t help that Dungeon.

Also 2013 came Anets Third Attempt for Hardcore Content. Worldbosses. Teq was reworked so it wasn’t a Loot Pinata anymore but an Enemy that is Hard to kill. Guess what. Community Crapstorm about how impossible Teq is now. ( despite being on Farm for everyone a few Months later )
Then we had Marionette as a Worldboss for normal Players and Triple Trouble for the hardcore Players. But this Version of Hardcore Content also had its Problems. First, was a Nightmare to Organize. Second, you had no Control what kind of Players are there, if they are Trolling: Good Luck next Time. In Instances you can kick such Players and get others who are serious about the attempt. It also stressed the Servers, so you had DCs at the Fight and even mire Problems.
I think after Triple Trouble. Anet dropped the Idea of Worldbosses being Hardcore Content and searched for another Version of it and they found it in the Format of Raids. The CDI with Chris Whiteside showed us that Anet was interested in Raids.

And here we are now. Anet might have found the right Direction for Hardcore Content with Raids. Every other Attempt had too many Problems and this is why we have Raiding, because everything else, failed in deliering Hardcore Content without too many Problems. And since Anet had done a good Job so far with the Raid Encounters ( and the Community in general having accepted Raids ) I think this Format is a successful one for GW2 and has a Future.

Raids lore richer than living world

I wouldn’t call it “richer” but it is based off of more established well loved lore.

This is what I don’t get. People are raving about how wing two has way better lore and writing than anything we’ve seen in HoT (regardless of where you think that bar is set) but the cinematic was basically a really short summary of things we knew before GW2 even came out (some of it is even rewritten history). I get that White Mantle/mursaat and GW1 in general excites people, but so far we haven’t gotten rich lore – just throwbacks to beloved lore from GW1 and the possibility of something exciting to come.

I think we have to consider the Nostalgia Factor here. Nostalgia Google are the only Explanation I can think of, that makes the outcry right now “justified”. I don’t think it makes Sense that people are now enraged because some Lore Bits of GW1 are now related to the Raid, but you know. Nostalgia.

Raid is now where it should be, it is a Raid and not something like Blizzards LFR Raiding, it is supposed to be Challenging.
Remember that the Raid was advertised as " Challenging Grouo Content". Having an easy Mode would just make the " Challenging Group Content" Void.

My advise is to get a good Group, stay with them and play the Content the Way it is intended.

Why? Raids are supposed to be about skill and all that?

What’s gear for to do with it? Or is it because raiders don’t just want raids to be about skill, but also something with a high bar entry point to deny most at the chance to raid?

What High Bar Entry Point? The only Ascended you truly need are Ascended Trinkets. They give the biggest Boost and are really easy to get. ( They are even Account Bound, so you only need one Set of Ascended Bersi or Ascended Sinister for your whole Accound ). The next Ascended Priority would be the Weapons but you are fine with just Exotics. And Armor? Not worth it.

Everyone has the Chance to Raid and to beat the Bosses but they have to put in some effort and Time. Gear is not the Problem here because you can get the Ascended you need very easy and Exotics are also Easy to get.

No offense, but this is how raids got ruined in WoW. If this same crap happens to GW2 as it did to WoW, then I’m done…

You mean LFR Raiding in WoW, where half of the Raid is AFK, while the other half is doing it with just their left Hand and still suceeding? This isn’t Raiding, it has nothing to do with Raiding, its just SW Chestfarm with a Raid Paint.

And I disagree to the OP. Raids don’t need an Easy Mode.

Challenging PvE and timer

Let’s say, we also put a 22m health and a 7-8 minute timer on old bosses like Lupi, Mai trin or shaman(also some nerf to reflection damage). Will they just be equally challenging as the current raid bosses?

Wouldn’t Work. You know why? Because these boses were never designed as Raid Bosses. Mai Trinn and Shaman with 22 Million Health? 3 Phases who are the exact Same, very few Mechanics. You need to redesign the Encounters to make them working with so much Health.
And even Lupi wouldn’t work. Why? Because for most of the Time he is a mess. First Phase is a Boring Mess. The Adds he spawns are Cleaved down pretty Quick and even the Grubs can be cleaved ( if dodge fails ). Second Phase is…. broken. An Autoattack that can be mixed with other Attacks like his Charge or the Necrid Bolt AOE Attack. And speaking of the AOE. These Things can hit everywhere, not just on the Places where the AOE Indicator shows it, sometimes also not in the Indicator. Phase 3 is fine. But to make him work as a Raid Boss Anet would need to rework Phase one and Two and add one or two Mechanics on the last Phase.

The Timers on the Raid Bosses and the HP are not a Problem, the Main Difficulty is to play with the Mechanics and not with the Timer ( Even with Gorseval, who is the closest Example of a DPS Check in the Raid, you have to watch for his Mechanics ). Sabetha, from what I’ve seen, has many Mechanics that need to be Executed well otherwise you wipe, and this Fight can get really scary.
Also the Vale Guardian. Take my Raid Group for an Example. We raid two days a Weeks and 2 Hours a Day right now because we don’t have so much time. And while we didn’t kill VG, the Damage was never the Problem. At 2 Min Rest Time we normally have the Boos down to 10%. What kills us are the Mechanics at Phase 3 which we don’t Execute that well at the Moment. ( Like Lighting Group that gets Teleported away ).

So the Timer isn’t a Problem, its there to put out some extra Pressure and make sure that everyone in the Group learns how to use their Class and also to make sure that you can’t Cheese Fights like the VG with 10 Nomads.
