I have a technique for going in quickly ( for what it’s worth, and it’s not worth a lot…).
go near the pnj to access winter wonderland : press ‘f’, put your mouse on the accept message then don’t move it anymore it.
then you do ‘f’ + mouse click + enter (to confirm the message error ) in circle until you go in….

Yes, we counter you Thieves pretty hard now, compared to any other meta era, but i’d imagine you people would be used to it by now.
On usual builds I would say yes, It’s frustrating to play against a DH. Then we invented the p/p power + dash most stupid troll build ever but it works so greatly against DH !
Because in reality, thieves make people live in constant fear. Is why everyone locks their door at night.
Yep that’s it ! just playing thief is a huge strike on ennemies moral ! It’s like having a Jedi in an intergalactic war. he is alone but the war involving millions of people end because of him.

I usually goes with the “hi team” then " who goes where ?" and at least one or two people answer. Usually, when you do a full sentence people answer more easily.
But I feel like people are communicating more before the match than before leagues.

My main is a thief, but I’m playing mesmer right now ( those are dark times for thief in pvp). I came up with a quite successful clone factory build, and I would like some advise on runes and sigils because I sucks in choosing those….
I’m in saphire t3 and have 692 ranked games ( 383 in thief | 151 in mesmer ), so I’m neither a complete noob nor a full expert.

With this build I can generate clones almost all of the time and make full use of shatters with alacracy on activation and easy access to stability.
I have both descent dammages with a descent burst ( generate 2 clone + continium shaft + wells + greatsword skills+ mindwrack ) and good sustain.
The staff and shatters ( bountiful dillusionement ) provides good team support.
SuperSpeed on shatter is a personnal preference, clones becomes rockets. They have a better reaction times, and can easily chase a fleeing low hp target without me leaving a point.
Only drawbacks are that it’s weak againts condis.
EDIT: do you guys know if the fury on clones affect the crit rate of shatter ?
ps: I don’t know if there will be dh reading this but clones in your traps are just so great to see

Don’t you think that S/D is in a good spot now ? I feel like the combo infiltrator’s strike + fist flurry is a really high dammage burst, which was lacking on that set.
The steal pathing is bugged anyway no matter the cam mode.
I guess it’s easier to disengage but is that the only pro ?

If you want to interrupt, staff and shadow art is great (staff stealthed skill knockdown for 2sec) ! but the build I made at the tome lacked dps. with blind powder and hide in shadow you can always enter stealth.
Try a sword and infiltrator’s strike, it’s great to land fist flury. and fist flury compensate a lot the lack of dammage on that set.

Do you have any tips, things that could help me be used to it faster ? ( other than practice )

Seriously though, if you were desperate, wouldn’t it make more sense to suggest the damage be dealt at the start of the dodge? Of course this is equally absurd for other reasons, but at least it makes some sense.

I’m trying a CC staff build as well. A mesmer just welled at me because he had a 4 sec stun, which I doubt he had. I have a huge acces to stealth in this build. and spam vault is a quick burst with decent dammage.
for the runes and sigils, there must be something better !

i actualy laugh while im playing on my dear thief.. everyting hits like a truck… But hey anet gave us 1 more dodge.. and we can run pretty fast to ^^ but yeah im geting tired to be the go deacap free base role or be the +1 guy… mobility aint enough atm..
There are 8 other classes you can play, with multiple viable builds per class. If thief doesn’t have what you need, maybe try rerolling instead of asking the devs to change the game for you.

Can you seriously not see the difference between the 2? Ranked is disabled so people are forced to play Skyhammer and other maps that are unfit for proper PvP (there is a reason why those aren’t in ranked). We have no choice. What stops you from rerolling, on the other hand?
Can’t you just not vote for those ? I played solo queue yesterday for a whole day and had to do spirit watch and Skyhammer only once or twice… it’s not really a big deal.

did you try that sort of tanky build ? I find it pretty sturdy and I didn’t have to run for my life against most classes (a minimum of dodge for chrono wells and dH traps though). Also steal + staff 2 hit hard.
I’m not that good at theory crafting, so you can trash the build all you want, since it seems to be the goal of the thread

No seriously, it’s a bad idea. invulnerability is toxic to pvp. one or two frames is ok, not 7 sec.
On nifhelm, I like to jump from pole to pole because nobody press that god kitten “I’m Ready !” button… Am I in the wrong ?

To the people who don’t get it, there’s no such thing (shouldn’t be) as a Meta2 tier class. The irony is, Cele D/D Ele performs so well in Conquest that it’s in another league of it’s own.
Two stacked Cele D/D Ele classes is a better comp than any two combinations of: Guard/Engi/Mes/Necro/War/Ranger/Thief
You can literally incorporate any other two classes + 2xCele D/D Ele + Thief and be competitive.

I’m playing a thief and meta battle is the easiest way to get a quick overlook of the most played builds & their mecanics ( Even if I don’t really like the “meta” concept because it implies " you have to play X class like this and you can’t do it any other way" ).
1) the fluidity of the gameplay.
1.1) the abillity to shadowstep as in gw1 but in even better.
1.2) try hard sword/dagger even if it is not competitive.
2) the feeling to be the one to turn the tide when +1 or interrupt a stomp & rez
3) the high learning curve and the feeling ofr accomplishment when you succed a good move.
4) this moment when this question pops into your head before every duels: will I be able to fight more than 10 sec without fleeing or dying?
5) beeing part of a community that is crying, begging, bleeding, complaining, whinning about thief, but is still playing it nevertheless because we love it.

Neither do I, it’s just funny and sad at the same time to see that a build is much more powerfull than the others to the point they have to create a new category for it.
I wanted to check the necro celestial signet build for pvp and went to meta battle.
I had a good laugh as I saw “Meta² elemetalist d/d” then the usual “Meta” builds. Ele are so powerful right now that they had to make a Meta squared just for them.
I don’t know if it has been there for a long time, but it’s pretty relevent of the pvp state ^^
No one is addicted to Shortbow, in fact many of us have come to despise it. Regardless, it is required to stay both viable and alive.
Staff has a chance of working as an alternative, but it’s not where it needs to be right now.
That’s why I made a post-scriptum ^^ Shortbow is a must have because the current thief’s role is capping and +1 during a fight. The thief need mobility to do that.Maybe a squirmisher or a thief that try to hold a point or do a 1v1 doesn’t need it.

after seeing the double sword thread and having tried myself a double d/d weapon set to infinite dodge with daredevil (infinite dodge works but not really effective), I was wondering if some of you had interesting builds (exotics as well ?) based on double sets?
Now that we have to look for new ways to play thief more than ever, it doesn’t seem that this path have been explored yet ( addicted to shortbow perhaps ?).
ps: keep in mind that maybe we can have different roles than the one we currently have…

The answer is NOT to just give people the ability to “stop Thieves doing anything” with a utility skill. It’s to rebalance Thief abilities so that Stealth isn’t something we need to rely on as a crutch to survive more than 5 seconds in a team fight.
I completely agree, reveal is not a big deal if 4-5 builds were viable when playing a thief. I don’t want d/p to be our only competitive option . What we need is s/d, p/d, p/p and shortbow competitive builds. More viable builds means more different counters, and more different counters means a place for every build to be effective.
Thief will be balanced when there will be more than one meta build.
an idea out of nowhere: why not make a critical defense trait in the critical strike trait line ? something like: if you criti, blocks attack for 2 sec with an internal cooldown of 6-8 sec. wouldn’t that make criti trait line nice to play (again) ?

I agree with impact strike ! It’s so rewarding when you turn around a duel with that. I was playing against a ranger and I had 10% and he had 25%. I thought I was dying and then Impact Strike ( you know when you have a new build/skill, you are not used to it yet and you remember it actually IS in your skill bar )! Instant death from the ranger !
This is one of the best feeling I had in the entire game !
I spent some time over the weekend sketching up some storyboard concepts of what I feel skills 2, 3, 4, and 5 should look like, along with some notes about them. To anyone interested, please feel free to take a look at them and let me know what you think.
Awesome job done on these animations ( I’m almost ashamed of my vault’s ones ^^ ).
I think that dust strike would makes more sense if the whirling was made after the throw as a finishing stance to get the staff back in place. As I see it, during a whirling the hands are placed in the middle so the wide swing after that part would lack strengh. With the speed of the rotation, I find it hard to get one hand in the middle and one hand at the bottom of the staff.
The rapid thrust would definetly be one of the best candidate from the auto-attack #3 instead of the “chop-chop magic helicopter” we currently have.
this is a side question: what brush do you use and what size ? it gives your charater more consistance. ( don’t answer just to this, it’s still a gw2 focused thread )

I doesn’t change the problems but current animations are making more sense with heavy staves. There is not a lot of them though.

Today I learnt that sword/dagger must be played almost without cloak and dagger…My effectiveness incresed by 120% ^^
and you know how many ppl are working on animations? or if they are doing even something else? maybe there are other professions? maybe there is other stuff, so they (the animation team) have limited time (since there is a release date) and resources.
I know there is a lot to animate, from every ennemy to the plants and maybe even mordremoth ( if the animation is on the same degree as Zaithan there is a lot of work, unless this is well scripted, I don’t really know). But what is the one thing you see 100% of the time on your screen ? that’s your character and the way it moves/interact with the world. So they need to pay a lot of attention on this.
Raids are not only encounters (or at least I hope so) and a thief could possibly trigger interruptors or any mechanisms better than any one else. I mean getting behind the ennemis lines, activating it and coming back safely.
one exemple that come to my mind is one of the elite zones from gw1:
-In the urgoz labirinth you couldn’t open a door without a necro ( or at least the skill necrotic travel ) that could teleport you to a dead body on a cliff, switch on the gate interruptor and come down. ( that cliff was inacessible from any other means, except maybe for assassins ).
And if we have to split into 2 or 3 groups a little bit of blindness and cc could make it much less difficult.
