Hey there Thief community. I was wondering if you guys happen to know if there are any new Thief builds for group comps in WvW. I have checked Metabattle but i’m not sure how reliable that website is.

It depends on the size of your group…If you are talking about zergs I suppose you could come up with a condi/control build with shortbow (choking gas) and venoms. Other than that and accro staff you are better killing people wandering a bit too far from their commanders with the usual builds….

On a serious note : I got pushed from god now what and ended slammed against the middle point wooden door so hard I got through. Problem is, no way to kill yourself with the water….Oh and icerbergs don’t have collisions so I couldn’t jump from them either….

you can blast in a waterfield using earth skill giving an extra heal output. Start with using eruption then switch to water and put the field.

That’s from a thief main :p That’s pretty much my advanced level of playing ele ^^

I don’t, good old tab target and mouse click is enough for me. My camera is really far behind my character so I have a big field of view. That might help you to locate people quicker.

btw channelled skills already follow stealthed people. A reacquire target out of stealth is a bit too much.

If you are have a ranged weapon it is possible to fire in the air with the action cam and kill a stealthed target.

You would have better answer with another title. This “Dragonhunters NEED to be toned down ASAP” is a bit too much

Why is it that every class in this game except the necromancer has a block in some form. If theming or role is the reason why I don’t understand why thieves have a block.

I understand the power creep nerfs but if your gonna nerf our already poor sustain then please give us something in return. Half the classes have invulnerability or crazy access to defensive boons.

On the theming and role part daredevil is a kind of martial artist : staff, fist flurry. So a block fit that specialization. Necro also has access to 2 pulsing aoe blind. That’s your block counterpart.

Since Ario brought it up and I don’t want to make a new thread about it : Is it worth to use rune of adventure to keep up with the mobility loss (nerfs to endurance) or do we lose too much damage doing so ? Maybe an hybrid condi/power build could take advantage of the rune stats…

BTW the effects of the rune + chaneled vigor refill endurance fully even out of combat.

Sly gave you the best options. As a thief you are not supposed to take condis anyway ( sometimes better said than done ). Shadowstep + signet of agility are your condi clear tools. Your heal should focus another area of utility.

The poisons are at 98% duration provides ample Burst as well as cleanses, I was using both Distracting Daggers and Spider Venom for large burst but it cut into to the survivability too much.

A few thing :

- Shortbow is main set and d/p second.
- Impairing dagger is HUGE it’s strait up 5 poison stacks with Potent Poison and panic strike passive.
- Choking gas daze is strait up usable after the engage.
- sunless is for trolling, nobody expect a basi venom channelling to fear them.

it’s a gimmick but also a nice way to punish people : jump + #3 avoid the recoil from the dodge but keep the evade frame.

Same here since yesterday….I can’t join any queue to ranked or unranked. It started when I queued with a friend.

I’m removed from the queue as fast as I click on the button. Hot join seems fine, but I don’t play hotjoin….

I’m using either my d/p pvp build or accro staff. My sets are a mix of berserker / marauder stats to reach 14k hp. It’s a hp threshold that saved me a couple of time compared to full berserk ^^

Tbh I’m mostly just happy about being able to use my predator rifle after they gutted rifle engi, but I can’t say I’m looking forward to this spec. The idea of rifle thief kinda bores me.

That said, Deceiver’s proposal was one of the more fully developed and balanced ideas put out there, so I’d have no problem with it becoming reality either. If someone enjoys it and it’s not horrendously OP/UP, it’s a win tbh.

My main alt is a mesmer. It’s just a thief in disguise on so many levels. And a bit of party utility once in a while is refreshing.

Next are necro and shortbow ranger. Necro is for fun when I’m bored of paying 200% attention to every single skill. It’s the Booom→Slash→Arrrgg → dead from condi enjoyment thing. As for ranger I don’t know, I just like shortbow really much as a weapon. It reminds me of the burn ranger from gw1.

I don’t think we have a good view of who is NA and who is EU (definitely more NA than EU) . Except for people we see on a regular basis..

I will as well, if we could get an arena going again in spvp that’d be a huge step to giving people an inside look on how to play and play against thief. This is cool and if we get enough support and potential participation we could have a super successful startup to the guild again.

I was responsible for maintaining arena on EU, however the costs were rather high and there was just me and Jana runnung daily CoF to keep it up. Nobody else was actually willing to put some effort in keeping it up so we gave up once HoT guild arenas came out.

It sounds all great and you might even get few people in first week or so to support the arena but after a while it is just one person keeping it up and it gets rather costy and tedious. I think guild arena is fine as it is atm.

I completely understand where you’re coming from and that will definitely present a problem in the future if it goes to that. Worst comes to worst we invade empty dueling servers if we need a pvp arena.

We could use a perma Colleseum map for example.

I finish my ember bay track and I will start working on the reward track with the arena tokens. I will put them in the guild bank as soon as I get them.

I think you can make a decent amount of vault but it’s a gimmick build.

If we need to set up a spvp space (NA) I can help contribute in some way.

One on one mentoring is pretty effective, I find, for practicing. We could also advertise it both as a “learn how to thief” and a “learn how to fight thief” so we can train people who think thief is OP about how to fight and get better in general (and maybe to try thief themselves).

It’s a guild hall arena. We had a spvp arena for awhile but with HoT and the guild arena we stopped maintaining it.

Yeah I reread it 3 times and I’m still trying to figure it out. Is the counter attack bar supposed to be like the necro shroud bar and it auto blocks hits? Once it expires you get access to your DD utilities?
Seriously have no clue what the op is trying to describe.

But in that case it’s a block spam ^^ It’s the same as evade spam…..I was thinking about a aegis proc on demand ? or set of utility like fist flurry…you get 1 block and if you counter the skill change to an attack thingy with a special mechanic. Like a defensive version of s/d #3

My personal opinion is : I don’t know why you want to find the game at fault when you make those awkward moves with your cam. It seems you are asking for it. I’m not expecting my car to have a perfect control if I shake the wheels left and right ^^

Saerni, that’s a great idea. Run some training camps for newer players where they can ask questions and learn from higher level players in the guild. Maybe we get one person for each set who is really good at it and then let others who want to experience that set learn from them?

We have the basic arena up, we can have a training with thief vs X. We all have our tips and tricks against a certain class. It’s also good because all players of different level would confront their view…

The +25% speed traveler is a waste on thief. You have better runes out there.

The new version of paralyzation sigil will, at least from the latest suggestion, have a damage modifier in addition. The thought was also to make the stun match better duration wise with the skill animation time.

I agree the pistol whip is pretty clunky, but “maybe there is a way around that” was my hope. Mostly, Black Powder + Pistol Whip + Bound (for stealth access) and with the on demand ranged interrupt in a clutch.

My worry is that the initiative from dodging won’t be enough to make up for the loss from Trickery…but the need for more damage (given sword is slower) made me think otherwise. I’m also considering a quickness based strategy to improve the burst potential.

To tell you the truth, I did like 5 rough of my post with a bunch of things before narrowing it down to the proposal of the sigil…

You can’t play both pistol whip and black powder, you will run short of initiative before long. We need to discuss how you see yourself playing it… I can visualize a 1v1 against a necro based on headshots to load might, blow his shroud then pistol whip + signets to kill him. But for the other classes…..

Quickness ? On 50 sec CD ? It’s not a compromise you can make in pvp…Even if it comes from the sigils….

I think you should change sigil of paralyzation with Sigil of Ruthlessness. It fits more situations IMO. I would better have a +3 stack of might on interrupt than a +30% modifier on pistol whip. Simply because pistol whip is much more clunky.

It’s clearly not a +1 build. It’s in the same line as staff. I’m afraid that in a prolonged fight your main source of damage is still bound.

I’m ok with the visual design. Except one thing, On the blue side the wooden structure clip into the wall. It’s plain visible. I don’t understand how this got past the quality check…

Come on, even decorators in guild hall don’t make things that clip that much ! Don’t lower aesthetic standard because that’s one ok that game strong point…

You will always have people that don’t know how to react to condi bomb. Visible or not.

I don’t know but it works better during the week for me. Sunday is the worst day, more rage, strange builds and iddle.

Logic could also dictate that only player really invested in the game play at strange hours giving a better rooster to pick from. We will never know.

I’m enjoying it. Overall I don’t have as much time to play but 15/week has been manageable.

At this rate it takes a while to climb in the ranks but I’m progressing and should be able to reach my ideal MMR by the end up of the season.

Mostly I feel like the changes to mmr volatility have really helped keep people where they should be and that has made for better matches. This last weekend the matches I lost were mostly under 100 points. Another thing that is probably helping is the minimum game requirement isn’t padding the leaderboard.

People say population went down because there aren’t so many high ranks on the board…but part of that is because the game requirement limits people from getting on there without really playing. Many of those last season were likely not as good as the number suggests.

Because, this season I feel consistent. I’m having some great matches far quicker than last season.

During S5 I had trilled matches only during the 2-3 weeks before the end. I’m having some of those quality matches right now ( I’m only gold one, but I’m slowly climbing ).

You know, those kind of juicy matches in which you are literally running on a tight rope and your actual +1 decisions are the good one. You know that the other team is not that far behind but you and your team hold tight until the end.

I play pvp for those thieves moments !

I looked at it on your blog, it’s a nice project you’ve made. I wonder how is the flow of the game. I picture it as a kind of “magic of the gathering” type without ability to counter when being attacked.

It’s not asking for people to listen to me, just plain info. What they do with that is up to my teamates.
