That said, I totally agree. ANet, like any good company should always be considering accessibility issues. This can mean anything from people with disabilities to players crippled by latency issues.

While I’m sorry to hear that the OP’s disability interferes with his ability to play the game, that’s what it is—an inability to play the game. While it is unfortunate if one is not capable of entering the most basic commands required to interact with the game, such as targeting a ground-targeted AoE like the lightning pull, it is not a fault in the game.

how about hell no.

you hit the cap on bleed and you suddenly receive 25k damage? bleeds a dot, not a burst.

And this is why PVE will never get properly fixed, as long as SPVP gets to overrule…

Except it really doesn’t make any more sense for PvE either. I want a solution as much as anyone (and I don’t play PvP), but just dumping the damage on the enemy all at once just isn’t a good solution.

But in my perspective, a rare should be rare, getting it often defeats its rarity. Some rares do value much and I think its due to the Mystic Forge, but soon you’ll be able to craft your own precursor and I bet those same rares will drop in price.

By Anet adding Champ Boxes, its only gonna add to the grinding. Unless the Champ box is 1 per account and not 1 per champ.

I feel when you find a rare or earn it, you should feel like you accomplished something or worked hard for it. Now its more like gather rares, salvage, make money. Im not saying to nerf rare drops in general but more of give the main events (the 3 dragons) give you the guaranteed, while the 1 minute men give just boss chest.

You have to agree on some degree that rares are easily obtained, mostly from the dragon events. Ecto is supposed to be an exotic material, but I bet a lot of players has stacks of them sitting in the bank.

A solution mentioned above, make the bosses actually scale in difficulty and in health/dmg. Make us work for it and make it less of a daily grind for easy cash.

I have no problem with making the world boss fights more engaging, but you seem to be mistaken about the position and market of rares. The name “rare” means little, and given that each rare is still a significant gain, the name is applicable enough. As it is, Lv. 80 rares are a speedbump at best on the way to exotic equipment—mainly they get tossed into the forge, as you say, or turned into ecto.

Now, the lowest value of a rare is the 0.9 to 1.25 ecto it can produce depending on the kit you use to salvage it. Ectos are 18-19 silver each, right now, so the stacks you seem to think many people have would be worth 45 to 50 gold each. That is not a small amount—and yet, there are many uses for ecto that require exactly that amount.

Put plainly, ectos (and by extension rares) are used for a lot of things, and thus, the demand is in balance with the supply and they retain their value. Cutting off the supply of rares would see ectos, and by extension a lot of other things skyrocket in price, widening the gap between casual and hardcore players and resulting in more grind all around; grind for farmers to get them, and grind for everyone else to buy them.

You say you think rares are too common, but the market does not support your conclusion.

Sure, why not? Magic Find is (at the moment) a definitively good use for the stat spread, and it’s not like quartz has any other use right now. Given that the charged quartz replaces the fine materials in the recipes, it’s actually pretty downright cheap to make.

I don’t see any problem with the current state of affairs. Trash rares has a floored value set by their expected ecto production, and actual useful rares can be as much as twice that value. The market, as is, is stable and reasonable. If anything, the drop rate of rares from vets and champions should be higher, and given the fact that ANet has announced guaranteed boxes for champions in the future which may or may not include rares, I think they have that handled.

Speedy kits provides what is probably the easiest access to full uptime swiftness there is. It basically is our passive movement trait. If your only problem is timing it, then either get some boon duration somewhere (Food, Gear, Traits) to give yourself some overlap, or take med kit and drop the stimulant every cooldown to easily stack up a huge duration.

bullkitten, whats this nowadays with all these guys in these days believing that they deserve to get every kitten refunded when somethign gets changed in a game ???

Seriously, get this out of your head finally, Anet doesn’t refund anything!!
They never did yet and they surely never will do anythign like that in future.

It was your decision to use all your laurels and money ect on these items. You had like a year of time profit on that stuff and gained alot more rarer items ect than anyone that didn’t used for all that time MF stuff.

ANd now only because Anet changes the MF system into something accoutn bound, that is more fair for all of the communty, you keep on QQ like crybabies over something, that was from the begin on your decision to use money/laurels on to get for some lime alot more profit than other players.

Its always the same with this kind of greedy players that can’t get their throats full enough and are always the first in the line kittening and whining around, once something gets changed that brought them in a huge advantage over other players, only because they had the time/money to make themself all that needed equipment ect.

If you go to MC Donalds to go eat there a hamburger and they change then the recipe of the Hamburger, so that it will taste different now, then you also don’t go there and demand on them to refund you your first already eaten hamburger, only because they changed their recipes >.>

Seriously people, GET REAL!!

I wasn’t even going to respond to this thread, but geez, calm the kitten down. Why does the idea of a refund upset you so much? Not only is your response completely out of line with the tone of the thread, you’re downright wrong. ANet has given WvW point refunds when doing nothing more than adding new things to spend them on. It’s quite reasonable to suggest that the primary stat being removed from a piece of gear would involve at least some sort of trade in system, like the various systems they’ve used to remove excess quantities of materials from the market in the past, if not an outright refund.

Also, your analogy is nonsense. If I bought a bacon cheeseburger and halfway through, the manager came and took the bacon out of it, you’re kitten right I’d get a refund. Heck, if they changed their bacon cheeseburger to no longer have bacon and I ordered one after the change—I’d still get a refund, because that is the reason I bought the product. It is, in fact, the primary selling point of the product and would be false advertising if the bacon cheeseburger does not include bacon. What does that have to do with changing something that’s already been paid for? Nothing, just like your analogy.

But no, I don’t think I want Power + Precision + Condition Duration on my Explorer’s gear.

Improving the Bank/Collection System

Weirwynn.2390

I can’t say I really agree, except maybe dungeon tokens and badges of honor, though even those, I can see an argument for having rewards you can “hold in your hand” as it were. Gold drops are quite often glossed over completely. You look at your inventory, and oh, you have 100 gold. Where did it come from? Who knows? Stuff!

Asking for slots for BLTC items, now… that is not only completely unnecessary due to the small number of such things, it’s a downright horrible idea for ‘ease of use’. Repair canisters, revive orbs, remote merchants, etc are all things that you want to be carrying around. You do not want them disappearing when you hit “deposit all collectibles.”

You could of course come back and ask for those to be usable from the bank, but I think it’s pretty obvious that that’s not going to happen. They’re items. They take a small amount of inventory space. If you need more, buy more with gold or cakitten’s part of the game.

In addition, we’ll also improve the functionality of legendaries, allowing you to set their stats when out of combat to any stat combo available, so you don’t need to transmute stat changes for legendaries. Legendary gear will remain with the same tier of stats as ascended gear and will not be made more powerful than other gear, it will simply be slightly more convenient since it will no longer need transmutations to change stats.

Yeah, no. I can see some extra effect happening, but “all the stored damage, all at once” is not the solution.

Really, the stated reason for the cap is bandwidth concerns, it would be fine to just condense all additional stacks (stacks that would normally simply disappear due to not being better than anything currently on the target) into one strong duration-stacking additional effect. Possibly this effect could scale depending on the number of contributors, but the point is to not have to store and transmit data about dozens of players’ worth of stacks to everyone.

Weirwynn.2390

The people who can truly afford it will brush of the price as insignificant, while people who just play the game in a natural manner, with out seeking out opportunities to farm gold at the highest rate possible will find this fun piece of content far too expensive to justify.

We’ll have to agree to disagree, then, because your experience seems to be completely different than mine, as I have far fewer hours than you, do not engage in “farming gold at the highest rate possible” and still manage to find expenses quite well balanced.

I’m going to try not to be sarcastic and snarky when I say this, but exactly what do you consider to be “playing the game in a natural manner”? Do you simply log in every day and wander around killing Grawl in the shiverpeaks? There is plenty of rewarding content to do, and generally speaking, it should be the content which you seek out after so many hours.

No matter how easy people complain about dungeons being, they are, indeed, more difficult than PvE areas. If you like a spectacle, world bosses are fun to do, etc. I can’t comment on WvW from personal experience, but I’ve heard the drops there are quite good as well if you run with the zerg and are good at tagging. None of these are “near exploits.” Even if you do only one dungeon path a day, picking the longest and hardest of them, an expense such this should fall into the timeframe I described. Some intelligent choices and the right foods can make even the most casual play quite profitable.

It does take effort though, yes. That’s basically how games—and life—work. They reward effort. If you want to stand around all day in Lion’s Arch and chat… well hey, you can earn money on the trading post too, so you have that. There are always options.

First off, dungeons already do reward more tokens for your first run each day, and have done so for quite some time.

Now, I understand where you’re coming from, but I disagree that it’s something that should be toned down. In fact, I think just the opposite. With enough different things to do once per day, once there are too many to actually DO once per day, you will get your choices back. Do I run world bosses for several hours to get them all, or do some dungeons? That, I think, is the ideal way for the system to work.

True, though, the quartz is kind of a chore that’s more busywork than anything.

people in game who have rolled full celestial gear are telling me they think the stats should be lowered also, and the crit damage should be balanced with the rest of the jewelry and weapon sets. the increase to condition damage alone can make up for the change in power.

It’s been ten days since they were introduced, which means ten guaranteed charged quartz. You would have to have gotten two more charged quartz per day from your personal quartz node in order to have a full set of armor, ergo, no one has a full set yet. Personally, I have replaced the chest and legs on my rare magic find set with exotic celestials, and not noticed any appreciable difference.

Now, as for the no doubt unbiased anecdotal claims by these people who are being absolutely truthful about their equipment sets…

First off, condition damage is also irrelevant to critical damage. The worth of the critical damage on celestial gear is less due to the lack of power. As I said originally, 10% of 100 vs. 11% of 90.

And no, as I also said, even for a hybrid power/condition damage build, the numbers say it doesn’t even come close to making up for it. According to the number-crunchers, a might-stacking grenade engineer will lose about 12% of their damage going from rampager’s to celestial. The question is whether or not the gain in defensive stats is worth the loss of damage.

Celestial will, quite simply, never outdamage a glass-cannon gear set, so long as you compare against the appropriate gear. You could say it will out damage berserker’s on a condition build, but so will a dozen others.

It’s not better damage for power builds than berserker’s.
It’s not better damage for hybrid builds than rampager’s.
It’s not better damage for condition builds than rabid.

Why have something in the game if you don’t plan for the people who want it to be able to obtain it?

Absolutely anyone can obtain it. Lack of gold is not a terminal disease. Earn more, spend less, do exactly the same amount of work that people who can afford it now have spent. Nothing is stopping anyone from acquiring it.

A lot of the people who have that much money, have gotten blind lucky, having gotten rare drops that made them a lot of money. They haven’t had to put forth hardly any effort.

Some people have been lucky, sure. I have a guildie who got a precursor out of a lv. 58 personal story quest—though it was only Venom. Those people are not the majority. Almost anyone who has a legendary will tell you the same thing: save up for your precursor, do not play the mystic toilet roulette, do not rely on the RNG. It’s not a reliable way to make money, and it’s not how most—or even “a lot” of people with money got theirs.

Getting a lucky drop is not a source of money. It’s a sigular influx if gold. If you get lucky, and you spend that gold on frivilous things like kites, it wouldn’t matter if they’re 15 gold or 15 silver—it’ll run out, and you’ll feel like a fool for spending it. If you’re smart, you save it for something significant. Either way, neither of those can be considered the ability to afford a 15 gold kite. In order to be able to actually ‘afford’ it, you have to be assured that you not only have the money, but that you can make it back—that it won’t be a permanent setback. Only actually earning gold will give you that.

All you have to do is actually play the game. Do some dungeons—not CoF Farming, just any dungeon. Run around and kill some world bosses. Maybe just pick up some magic find and go to town on events. You probably won’t make 15g an hour; I certainly don’t. Maybe you’ll only make a gold or two in the couple of hours a day you can play. Regardless, it adds up. While there are plenty of things you can spend it on, there aren’t many you need to spend it on. It won’t take much until you’re able to buy something like a kite, or holographic dragon wings or whatever every week or two.

And you know what? Maybe doing all that, you’ll get lucky. Hasn’t happened to me, but hey, if you do, you’ll be able to spend it knowing that it’s not something that you’ll never get back.

I’m going to clear up some things quickly. Firstly, things like guild banners, missions, and commander tags are of benefit to large amounts of people, so there’s the major difference right there. Personal item vs service for many.

Two, which people have been mindlessly been repeating, yes, it is an non essential item, but it’s just as non essential as the other kites, so that argument holds no water for extra requirements seeing as they’re all nearly the same thing. (Although I suppose what Sir Vincent said about guild items could explain anet’s view on guild skin items for me, so thank you for that answer.)

Displaying your guild emblem make it very much not a “personal item”.

Three, slightly off topic, if gold is flowing out like water, maybe someone should take a look at that cof1 farm? It seems to be giving out disproportionally high amounts of gold compared to the rest of the game, but without extra difficulty.

I’ve run CoF explorable all of four times in my career; I don’t even have enough tokens for a chestpiece yet. I don’t play the trading post, or even stock up on event items to sell back after the event is over.

Also, coincidentally, I have around 90 gold at the moment, hundreds of ectos and T6 mats in the bank (saving up for a legendary), and I recently craft-leveled my mesmer up to near the cap because leveling mesmer is a chore. If I actually wanted a guild emblem kite, I would buy one without a second thought to the gold required.

Making money is not difficult. CoF P1 is out of order, yes, but don’t use it as a crutch to complain about things that cost some gold.

Also, by the way, as of this posting, it costs 16 gold, 17 silver and 45 copper to buy a kite with gold. Paying 15g on top of that for a custom appearance is not at altogether unusual.

My question to you is: Why do you want to play with these people? They’re trying to enforce their playstyle upon you (with good reason, as it is demonstrably effective), and you’re stubbornly saying that you don’t want that. If neither of you is willing to change your opinion, you don’t belong in a party together! Don’t lie just to stay in the group!

You’re assuming that the only people who would utilize such a function are the ones who bother to force gear pings with the current system, and that’s just not true. The easier you make gear comparisons, the more common they will be—that’s just simple logic. I’m not concerned about lying to get into ZERKER ONY PLZ parties; it’s about someone who has no business telling me how to play my class gets the idea in his head that he knows better than me because he has the tools to do so.

When you have a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.

Anet do you read your youtube?

The top comments on anet’s youtube channel, posted under their latest video relate to the issue.

Clearly this is a bulletproof source of information that represents the stance of the entire community.

No, no matter how much the vocal minority thinks the game should be changed to suit their whims, it’s the content of a comment that matters, not whether or not it gets a few dozen upvotes. They are certainly aware of your opinion—and they are free to ignore it.

If this post is a little sharper than is polite, I apologize, but the assertion that ANet would of course do exactly as you say if only they read their youtube comments is quite rude.

Inspecting Players

A while back we recruited a new guy into the guild, been playing warrior for a couple of months and thought he was on a good build, with the right gear for damage dealing. I took his word for it, and we did our dungeons, he did make mistakes and when corrected he did fine, fair enough, but later when discussing things like damage he mentioned that he wasn’t hitting nearly as hard as i was.

This makes no sense whatsoever, its invalid. if i can see someone has the right gear/traits, i can assume they have done half the job at getting to know what to do, it is then their job to respond to my question “do you know what to do?” if they say yes and they haven’t it will become obvious very quickly, but that is then a communication issue and has nothing to do with the ability to inspect.

And this is exactly why it’s a bad idea. You assume there’s a “right” build, and “right” armor. You assume you know best, as do many other people. If I walk into a dungeon group as a hybrid Engineer or Elementalist with Rampager/Celestial equipment, is some Warrior going to kick me because he thinks Rampager/Celestial is terrible?

In your own example, no one noticed that your friend was not in a top-damage spec, so he was probably not dying all over the place. Maybe he was in knights, I don’t know. Maybe knights is what he needed at first, until he was good enough to step up and go glass cannon. Either way, he noticed a problem with his build, and he worked to correct it—and it was his choice to do so. To me, that sounds just fine.

Precursor as achievement reward

Why make this suggestion? Because I suspect the scavenger hunt will be extremely painful and I already play the game (and have achievement points to show for it).

So basically, they’re going to make it easier, but not easy enough for you, so you just want to be handed a precursor for something you already did.

…sounds legit.

Orrian Jewellery Boxes make it entirely possible to profit from karma, far moreso than you’d get from salvaging 42K exotics.

There are a lot more karma items in the game than the exotic Orr pieces. “No salvaging karma items” is a rule that is applied to all karma items, not merely karma items that a constantly updated economical study deems to be profitable at the moment.

15 gold for guild kite?

Guild armor and weapons a ridiculously cheap compared to this, and this is for a toy kite. “Greed” has nothing to do with it. Compared to other guild-marked stuff, the kite skin is stupidly overpriced.

It’s just a toy. You want the toy, but you don’t want to spend that much gold on it—so yes, greed has everything to do with it.

Edit: It’s also probably the biggest, most eye-catching way to display your guild emblem, so there’s that.

I understand why one can’t salvage the buggers

excellent, please explain? I suppose you also know why we can’t salvage backpieces (or search for them on the TP)?

Karma items can’t be sold or salvaged in order to help prevent Karma → Gold transfer. Lost Orrian Jewelry Boxes exist, true, but they are an exception to the rule.

Now, I’d be happy with account bound karma armors, but I think it would be simpler to just make karma armors with added upgrades salvageable for only the rune, with the usual chance for failure. The game knows the discrete components that an upgraded or transmuted item is made of, so such a thing shouldn’t actually be too difficult to implement.
