yep if they show the teaming and MMR of such a match, people will give up before start …. Would be even worse. I understand that and won´t do it. Showign it after the match would be the good thing.

This is a reason of many blowout matches. I don´t get it why the double duo is not split. I would implement a second round after finding the matches than analyses the outcome and then even out teams and classes with making the average closer.
In this case swaping the second team with the two lowest solo.
What also worries me. I am low silver and i think one of the names had been in a match with me …. As said i encounter 2/3 of the solo Q matches as 200+ diffrence outcome. This match imbalace makes the system random and makes bad match quality and it loos so easy to avoid that. You can never turn of human factors so blowouts will always happen but you can increase match quality and as result indirectly lower the rants and AFK´s which doubles up for match quality.

might actually work. Needs a good waypoint system but merging all maps into one large might actually work. Not shure the current implementation allows it. There were already lags from large zergs or the event in desert in the past on the smaller maps.

Hmm whem moa hits me it´s not the worlds end ….. I often just turn and hit 5. If i am not focused i might even attack. OK CC + focus is the end but that rarely happens. We are not in 5 man ESL teams.

Warrior is indeed a bit to much. Skull grinder needs a bit shave. Also defy pain as a passive damage negation is somewhat bad and i would repace it with a team support skill.

Well from fresh air ele to condi ele all is possible. So play preferences (weapon choice), skill level with ele and resources for gear would help to make a build.

Issues currently with MMR based tier

It is more of the problem that one player drags down the team. It might be an AFK/disconect but more often it is a bad player that just feeds and doesnt listen. For me it often comes down to which side gets the worst one.
Examples. We got a DH on our side (forest). Seeing oponent has two thiefs writing DH close thief will come. Well basically expecting DH can hold the point… thief comes killing DH in 10 seconds, stealing beast going back killing respawend DH again.
Game over you know this DH is nearly worthless. Since oposing team is not dump no way to carry or win. The situation snowballs by someone trying to help out close, oposing respawn wins 3:4 mid. Chaos spreads and its a blowout.
Other way around. Team two necros, me ele, 1 war 1 scrapper. Oponent is good mix i feared we loose with 2 necro. We send scrapper close…. It showed he was a good one. Oposing mesmer attacks but scrapper held point stalling him endless and even could manage a +1 for a shot while till i could arrive. This stable spot sowballed the match in the oposite direction. I could keep the necros with ele mid and a blowout for us was the result. Warrior was even free for a moment to decap far ….
its a 10:10 teamgame but one can make it uncarryable affacting all MMR´s.

100 MMR is not realy much skill diffrence. I can move within 300 MMR range from low silver up and don´t feel a diffrence. OK match quality increases a bit mid silver but results are often uncarriable and blowouts.
I encounter about 2/3 of all matches are 200+ diffrence.

Such a match is usually a disaster for blue:

Team Red; 1200, 1100, 1100, 1100, 1000
Team Blue; 1300, 1200, 1200, 1100, 700

Red’s Average is 1100
Blue’s Average is 1100

MMR loss is significant and the 1300 is unable to carry the 700 that does feed all 30 seconds and the result that might happen if someone tries to compensate.

In adition never place two duo on one side and five solo the other! The solo average can even be better and will still have the odds against them.

Mesmer is one of the best map control classes. It should disengage if a fight looks hopleless. Mesesmes play sidepoints much more then other classes (exept thief decaps).
Train portal and use it. Or you go for a non meta build that fits you and has the purpose to fight in a team mid.

Lots of explanation has been given and good ones.
My opinion:
PvP is not 5 man team anymore. You solo or duo.
Damage and mobility becomes much more valuable in that scenario. The pure support ele is in a bad spot for that. Also points often become kittencluster or trapbombs …
In that scenario i find the decision to use scepter over dagger pays off. I use scepter/focus. So i have range to fight and can kite and support offpoint. I better kill and cap then die on point …
Focus: Obsidian flesh is great but i won´t miss it :-). I use it mostly for savestomping while the whole point explodes … Or disable multiple DH traps .. Sometimes to disengage.
Much more valuable is magnetic wave for me. It´s hell of a good skill. For me the best ele has. Reflect, cleanse, damage, blast finisher all as instant. Absolute bow bane total fun to see the ranger fly back or rip half his life with hasted rapid shot ….
And i use a wiered non meta build adaped to my playstyle. It evolved from the need to survive against thiefs in WvW and after i can play it they actually die.
My build is fire/earth/tempest. S/F sage amulet and soldier rune. My teamsupport is still very noticeable but in addition i do a lot more damage due to condi actually killing thiefs and revenants quite reliable. Only against mesmes my survival seems to be worse. I am condi and power burst resistant and actually do damage. Only chained CC or a necro + focus kills me fast.
It´s funny that this thief hate build performs so well … Killed two daredevils yesterday in an 1:2 even after the DH tried to save them … OK he got me after blowing all CD´s to kill the second thief. (of course thiefs were dump not to recognize i use a hardcounter and run).
My main advantage is that my build seems outstanding in killing three classes.
DH, Thief, Revenant. The others are usually very long fights with necro being my bane unless i can pressure him in 1:1. Then its 50:50. Also war is a bad matchup for me. Can´t kill a well played one and he will slowly wear me down. I can only hope for a +1.
And mesmer …. I need to catch him close up after his sword2 evade frame or loose horribly …
So i have the following matrix (of course skill and build matters but basically it goes that way)
DH, Thief, Reve – I win
Ele, scrapper, druid – Draw (or at least very long which i considder draw)
Necro, war, mes — I loose (not fast but i have the bad end) Necro is a bit of special. In 1:1 i might win in a teamfight if not focused down it´s game over and this can be fast …
I avoid engaging warriors knowing it´s not worth the time and i lose after 1-2 minutes annyway.
Since DH and thiefs are extrealmy common i am in a good spot.

Current duo system is the right way to go. A seperate full premade Q would be good, but i am not shure if Q times will be playable.
Voice com would be great. Shure soem might still not listen or language doesn´t match or no microphone but i expect it would be better.

But there are a lot of things missing or bad.

Number one: Placement matches. Whoever thought it´s good…. Most serious mistake this season. MMR soft reset and placing acording PvP rank with a maximum mid gold would have been better. If you are new and enter with rank 20 then yes you start bronze.

Mesmer/thief carry hardest. That is the best duo queue too. They are mobile classes and are the best classes currently too. They snowball the map so hard too.

1, Thief
2, Mesmer
3, Warrior
4, Engineer
5, ranger
6, Guardian
7/8/9, Rev, ele and necro – too limited or slow.

Mesmer/thief/warrior can do so much to impact a game. They are also, imo, the current 3 overpowered classes.

I agree to this. At least if you paly meta builds. Engi and druid might swap places but thats minor. Warrior has carry potential. I sometimes use a “Nike” burst warrior so i can rotate fast and kill glass builds in two hits. I won teamfights with it just by using GS. I traited stregth and arch divider traited with lower CD in zerk is awesome and i get +30% damage from stregth after the burst.
I main ele and agree carriing if you team is bad at rotating and especially feeding is pretty hard. I don´t use meta ele so i can kill and this is better …

I agree it won´t work. Global blacklist would be bad. A 3-5 player blacklist might be a good thing. So you can have a maximum of three Playes blacklisted so you can block the one that did just call you a kitten and ruined your game and maybe even like after 48h he is autoremoved from blacklist.

same position and experience as Deimos Tel Arin for me. But climbing is impossible had ben happy two days ago that i did come up then a uncarryable loss streak throw me all way back and now i climb again …

What with players that main only one class. In my case elementalist. I won´t have an apropriate manual skill with another classes. Maybe i am good enough for gold or even platin but can´t carry with elemetalist 50% of the games. I might 1:3 (had it two minutes pointholding 1:3 then two come helping and both die in 10s to the same i stalled …) and still loose the match due to team suiciding and not listening constantly or not rotating ….
I am to old and have not time to train multiple classes to a high level. I trained warrior so i have a mobile option but i played ele WvW and over 1k PvP matches warrior is not even 10% of that. With anny other class my skill is abyssal. OK i can play annything and instapop newbies but can only stand my ground against average or beyond on ele and war and ele is far superieor for me.

ignore trap trait on thief sounds funny. If traited a thief won´t trigger a trap. Of course a teammate can trigger and kill the thief … oops ^^. Maybe add this to improvisation :-).

power rev was the warrior counter or better it often took the warriors place due to offering boon support and good mobility with very high power damage. After the nerf reve is now balaced and abandoned due to being less tanky in solo Q then warrior.
I play off meta ele with sage so some counters don´t fit for me some do.

I basically counter all DH builds only bunker symbol i won´t call a counter because its to long fights.
For my build the thief or revenant countering me is not aplicable i kill them.
I struggle against necros especially in teamfighs they are my counter.
Mesmes are very hard for me to fight i loose more then i win.
Other ele and devensive druids are stalmates.
Engi is very long but i win.
Warrior… Can´t kill them if he can play but they can wear me down. But since fights are very long I won´t say it´s a hard counter to me.

I say you don´t need to change the class. Often you can adapt your build to perform better. Yes it´s important to be flexible but if you truly know your class and adapt it you win more.

I slighly adapt to the oposing team.
My build basically counters three classes (DH, Reve,thief) and since one is DH it´s currently powerful.
Then i basically stalemate (or at least stall) 4 other. (ele,engi,druid,war)
And two are bad matchups. (necro, mesmer)
I count that as good.

As a note: Countering a good thief is maybe not possible, because a good thief will disengage and only strike for the kill in bad situations or solid +1. I can kill a thief quite fast even when at 50% i usually win that but i also often die to them striking in worst moments ;-).

5 Warrior stacking Wins Everytime

In solo Q warrior is a very strong allrounder. The only thing warrior is weak and usualy not build is support. It´s fast, hits hard and can´t be killed fast (burst resistant and condi imune) it´s the perfect lonestar hero… And if there is no team coordination it shines.

I encounter the same. A 60% winrate is not enough to advance. OK maybe a bit. Over 150 matches and propably a total of +30 points…. And i have the feeling that i will easily stand my groung a division higher. It´s heavy grinding after bad placement. I don´t think i am platin or higher but when it´s like easymode against 4 out of 5 oponents but matches are lost by teammates feeding or camping close it feels very bad….

Is hammer/s+wh still viable in wvw?

Unfortunately hammer is not realy good. While i use S/WH for roaming mobility GS is is just better then hammer. The hammer CC is unreliable and slow. GS3 evade + damge and the damage from arch divider are superior.

Oh well i use some fun build. But only unranked just for LoL … In ranked i play only ele and sometimes warrior.

Initiative is reserved for pistol 3+4 in a fight. All else is usually a waste. I defend and regen ini with traps. It allows me to hit – stealth – hit in 2 second windows.
Unload – headshot – drop trap – sneak attack – unload (headshot) – drop trap —-———-
And the heal is evade + trap = stealth too .
It´s not to real duel. Run , decap, +1 and disengage. It can do what a thief shall do.
And it outkites guardians. If they pop aegis it has basi venom, if they leap on me i stealth/dash away. I often use bandits defence not shadowstep. Both are good.
The sigil in the bow are to disengage. I swap to bow only for running so chill + endu.

When i see 3 or 4 DH on oposing team i type like horray more DH to stomp …
Then i write to the team i go mid. please stay behind me. I put up missile defence and then reflection and ride through their traps … Then focus and stomp them …
But this is due to me playing ele ….. The more bowtrappers the better …. And burn guards … doh i have 5 ae cleanse …
Mostly 1-2 of my team rush past me using movement skills despite telling them, then instapop in 10 traps and true shots and we loose…
When they listen a blowout is imminent …
Much more anoying are defensive symbol guards. The fights are very long.

I use sage amulet on elementalist. A good death scenario for a thief….

He attacks and i fire feel the burn as reflex…
1 burn stack. + protection + FIRE AURA
You hit me and frost aura triggers (elemetal bastion)
I throw cleansing flame due to poision and other condies going up
+ 3 Burn stacks.
You do an attack chain to damage me …
=+X burn stacks from fire aura and chill from frost aura .. I get might

Thief dies on 3k burn /second i dont attack to prevent EA …

Lesson to learn: Never attack ele with fire aura especially when he is in earth …
If you do use shadowstep or die.


On the other side my warrior will kill faster. If i land a CC its over or i have adrenalien full then it is two hits if i land the burst …

Looking for a good Roamer build

Strongest duel build is propably mesmer.
I also suggest warrior but as ele main i must also recomend elemetalist :-).
It´s basically a matter what you like. The main thing is you should be fast on the map.
Thief and Warrior can both do it quite compftable. Druid is also in a very good place.
Most roamers i see are druids and daredevils and then mesmers after that warriors. You see a good number of necros too, but thats because people like to play necro and not due to beeing good as roamer.
I personaly play ele or warrior. Ele brings more in small group fights. Warrior can run and kill faster. I play them depending on mood.
My builds are higly personal and far off meta but work for me.

Options: Use savage instinct. That stunbreak can make a diffrence.

Stomp and headbut are my stunbreakers. I realy like stomp. It´s a lot of fun to see my asura flipping around :-). Stunbreaker, CC and stability is a great skill especially to stop rezz or stomp. The CC of the build can be devasting. One stack of stability and stunbreaker won´t save you. Mace shield is much stronger for duels but it´s build for maximum speed and not to be the best duelist. It´s burst is enough to twoshot low armored targets so if a CC fully lands it´s game over. You don´t need full zerker gear for that kill. If you want use zerker trinkets but i use the synergy from toughnes with utility and armored attack. Defy pain is good but for weaklings ^^.

I can do some amazing stunts with it. One most funny was following fastly disengaging oponets with my friend. I did rush + whirle to get close then stomp leaping over them throwing them back. Realy cool moments ^^.
Many will argue it´s bad not to use zerker or marauder and that discipline with mace/shield is much better. Those are solid options but not needed and they run slower ^^. I can actually catch thiefs if they don´t outstealth me to disengage.

it´s the stupid placement match system. A simple placement according to PvP rank from broze to maximum mid gold and then letting glico do the work would have been much better. This is the main fault they did with season 5.

Sigh yes it is to much. I would like to have a 2s stun instead of all the condies and the daze and a leap. A 300 leap with good damage and a stun is fitting the weapon and good enough.

Anet shows that they priorized a balaced meta with on build per class over build diversity. Last patch showed they slowly adress to bring back more builds.
The problem is the speed. With something like two builds more made viable per patch most of us won´t be here when GW reaches good diversity. Diversity is one of the core features for long term exitement. They need to bring back 3-5 viable builds per class fast and fast means at maximum half a year. More “Diversity” patches all 2-3 weeks would be apropriate.
Shure if you overhaul 50 traits/skills at once you might overshoot somewhere but this will be recognized fast and can be corrected and 50 over 9 classes is not much.

Glass Ele S/F Arcane Burn Build {PvP}

@Abelisk my air version was a suggestion. I basically play fire/earth condi ele and it works. I tried a lot and thought about mobility and always came back to fire and earth. Without fire the damage falls off to much.
It has some weaknesses being unable to kill other ele´s or warriors with ire and berserker stance but i could not find a version using air or water that works that well. Air makes some nice and funny builds but in the end it was not worth using.
I catch many by surprise. Thiefs or reves on top. The think ele prey and are done before they can disengage and i do a lot of point preassure which is worth more then healbot in solo Q. Shure you can argue necro can do it better but ele still offers some support and a bit more survivability.
I am still testing which amulet is best. I mostly fall back to sage but viper is very good. Problem is you are very squishy but thats clear it´s a glass amulet ….. Tried deadshot and played wanderers long. Both are useful but in the end sage or carrion offers more. Having power + condi damage is the strong part while i realy like the condi duration total damage from sage is better. In WvW i use viper weapons and armor but there i can mix gear and keep some toughness and extra health with trinkets.
An yes your signet version is good but i would use power overhelming and scavenger rune ;-).

But it has a serious drawback. Your condi defence is very low. Only on stunbreaker on 45 sec is dangerous. I usually avoid going out with less then two stab/stunbreak options. My experience is two is just right. Only one or even zero somtimes kills you and more then two seems to much in most cases.
This is why i droped arcane. Tempest offers me the defence i need and adds condi cleave with earth and fire overloads and those are stunbreakers (earth is stability too)

I personally have the feeling the system tries to keep me where i am. First it´s hard to carry matches. If you get the worst guy then ist often GG.
So i maintain a positiv win rate. BUT i constantly loose slighly more the i gain which nearly compensates my win rate. I did hit 150 matches this season and am close where i started and half of the matches are blowouts.
I also wonder why i had been placed low silver with 6:4 in placement matches and someone with 4:6 or 5:5 gets in gold ? Adn that screenshot is a negative win rate after over 100 matches maintaining high gold :-(.

the noobs go down anyway. You don´t need to speed up the stompers. And it will push up players regardless their skill for matches thes even don´t need to fight hard.
Human factor will always decide a large number of matches and handing out bonus points for RL factors on the oposing team is bullkitten.

Placement matches are somewhat broken. RNG with huge impact on your division.

DH: The class is easymode and some other classes are destroyed if they are not well played. Since i main ele i don´t feel this so hard and usualy destroy them (unless my team suicides in traps leaving me outnumbered …). There are so much DH´s it´s getting booring.

And coming out of low divisopns is hard. Matches are more decided from who got the worst player then who got the best one. Thief would be basically a good option to win more but is one of the bad classes agaisnt DH. Engi should be OK and is strong against DH. Maybe bring a ranged kit to bombard the point.

Even knowing that ele is not the best carry due to average map mobility i stick to it. But i have a “Nike” warrior ready to swap which can actually make a huge diffence in uncoordinated games. As engi you can stall and defend points quite well. Might not be enough to make your team win if they can´t rotate or die in traps.

Giving more points to blowouts then close matches for the winner seems wrong. I am against giving a boon to players for stomping a team maybe due to AFK/trowing a match after bad start or bad composition. The intention is to give a reason for fighting hard and not to drop a player in rating to much because he just lost 5 games by 1-5 points

The result should influence the rating lost. The closer you are to 500 the less you should loose.

I say it´s worth. But play your placement with the best person you can get. It´s impact is so huge that you will regret if bad luck throws you in bronze or even silver is hard to get four at least average teammates.

Anet should do the following:

1.) The matchmaker should even out classes on both sides. If it´s stacked OK but not only on one side.

2.) No class stacking in duo Q.

3.) Per class MMR and then no class swap after map roll.

If Nr. 3 is not done remove per class daily from ranked or substitute it with something new.

I did just read gold wit 4 or 5 wins in placement matches ?
I won 6 of my placement matches and had been placed low silver ?
They were more or less random and it felt like half of the people didn´t know how to PvP. And now i can´t get out of silver. My win rate in mostly solo Q is just a bit over 50% but it feels that 4 out of 5 oponents i encounter are easy to fight :-(.

Agree in PvE it works. But in PvP good players are mooving a lot. When i encoutner someone that only facetanks i can get a coffe while he dies ….
