Yup boon corruption is pretty bad in this game, it was fine before the expansion when you didn’t have 20 guys running around with 6-8 boons constantly, but not now, and it’s dumb that they stuck most of it on necros.
Adding stuff is what has gotten us here in the first place…
Also I’ve noticed zergs running way more necros these days, replacing elementalist I suppose.
They were still in t1 at the time of the last link, they were opened for transfers and players chose to leave than transfer there. Relinks don’t happen for 2 months, so gonna have to ride it out a couple more weeks.
As for server anet doesn’t like.. darkhaven has the claim on that, being dead last in rankings for 3 months now.
Dump everyone into one population pool and set to pve mode.
Allow guilds to go to war with other guilds, guild leaders can /guildwar guildname, it will automatically flag both guilds as enemies.
You can flag multiple guilds, you can only hurt players from those guilds.
Individual players can also do /duel to other players, you will be permanently flagged to that person.
Once set you cannot reverse these choices.
Everyone else who doesn’t want to use those commands can sit on a wall and spectate.
“But then who wins?” No one, there’s no point system, there’s no glicko, there’s no servers. You play to take over structures for bonuses, capture 3 keeps and get a teddy bear backpack, whatever the hell for all I care.

On a more serious note, I barely want to pay $50 for an expansion that has $30 worth of content, sure as heck wouldn’t pay $50 to transfer. Also… free accounts.
People move for one of these reasons, they want to win, they’re bored and want different opponents or allies, they want to get to more populated servers to find more interesting wvw experiences.
Bandwaggoning isn’t the only thing that brought the game to it’s current state, having glicko walls and same lopsided matches for months at a time, chased players to servers they thought would be a better experience. It’s still going on to this day and players are still fleeing to the higher tiers or leaving. Not to mention the boring stale ppt scoring system on the same maps we’ve had to play for 4 years. GvG guilds have given up as anet will not help cater to their game play.
Guilds stuck in mid-low tier servers that had no way to get to the top tiers to face guilds up there because their server wasn’t good enough for coverage to ppt higher, had no choice but to move up. Asking someone to pay $50 to transfer is as good as asking them to go buy another game.
Necromancer: Minion master is insane. That is all.

Ballista shots are double damage to siege or 2x, just boost it to 3x damage to siege.
Now should anything else get a boost to siege damage?, because all siege got boosted in hitpoints due to conditions affecting them. But in combat situations, you ain’t gonna land much conditions on siege while being bombarded on a wall with aoes, most times siege is needed to counter siege.
Not only useful for wvw, but dungeons, fractals, raids, map metas, map bosses like triple trouble.
Personally, before ANET goes and does some more enormous game-destroying changes, they should take a step back. We need like 6 months of class balancing just in WvW.
Good luck with that, well known that the balance in this game is done for spvp. They’ve done a couple minor split skills with pve, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up on splits for wvw.
After that it would be nice to have the desert borderlands back in some form, anything to break up the megazergs. Maybe they could introduce a mechanic that only allows so many people from each side into an objective area? Like no more than 5 or 10 at a time in a camp, 10-20 in a tower, 50 in SMC or keep?
They could do russian roulette on a maximum of 5 players gets credit for anything. 20 take a tower? only 5 will randomly get credit. But that’s like throwing a huge party of 20 of your friends but only having enough food for 5 of them. Makes no sense to create huge open maps that can hold over 60 players, and then want to restrict them everywhere they go and everything they do. Wvw is about having a large amount of players pvping, zergs are part of it, if you want small numbers go to spvp.
Too many boons flying around even without a mesmer around.
Conditions barely dent big groups because of resistance and cleanse.
But also too many conditions in the game anyways.
Not enough corruption to go around unless you want to run an army of necros.
Hardcaps need to be looked at, but probably never will be because 1. it’s not a problem in spvp, 2. affects pve.
The 4 server link just by itself would have actually been OK, but it drew in so many players that just wanted to see it, there is quite a bit of resurgeance going on there. Kinda like BG woke up a while ago and is now going back into hibernation.
You really believe it’s just players waking up from hibernation? I mean one has to wonder, Darkhaven was a host server in the first link that got beat pretty much every match up, they obviously lost players. Ehmry Bay was linked with HoD and they were winning during that time, but they had lost at least 2 of their top big wvw guilds who figured t4 was going to get locked so they moved. Eredon terrace was linked with Blackgate, which most likely gained some players due to them wanting to play with BG.
Looking at that situation was it really wise to keep Darkhaven as a host?, link them them Ehmry which had lost players and kept that as a 2 link, while placing the one server that was linked with the top t1 server into the 4 link? The 4 link that is now currently 400 points away from taking over t3 btw.
They created a t3 sized server and placed them in t4, and for what reason? to try and have them screw over the other two t4 servers to break into t3? which they eventually had to manually intervene to help happen anyways. I still believe the weakest of the 4 links should have been matched with DH/EB, and maybe t4 would have been more even. If it turned out that DH/EB/Whomever were winning at least it would have been tolerable, two servers who lost players would maybe gain a boost.
Only bothered to log on my t4 account once, and it was into ebg where we were getting double teamed and then camped by sf and cd, not my idea of fun. Thankfully I have accounts higher up.
I’m still not sure how Anet is looking at the link matching, are they trying to match population of servers to just their tier? because there’s an obvious gap between all tiers. Are they matching population to servers 2 tiers around them? (which they did with the 4 link creating a t3 server). It’s obviously not trying to get even populations from 1-12, or most of the links would be just the t3 t4 servers.
Maybe Anet really is only looking at raw numbers and thought it was good matchings, I don’t know. That 4 link just looked terrible from the moment most of us laid eyes on it. The way I look at the tiers now is it would be nice if t1 and t2 servers all had closer populations so that a rotation could happen there, the same for t3 and t4 servers, so that if there was a wall it was between t2 and t3, not between kitten or t3 t4. The “gold” and “silver” leagues if you will.
Meh whatever, these days doesn’t seem like there’s any urgency from anet to help fix this dying game mode and start growing it again, everything is just a stopgap to the bleeding. Remember spvp getting their push? of course you do when they flashed all that tournament money around. I believe the current wvw dev team is doing what they can, but it ain’t enough after 3 years, and planning for stuff like more siege isn’t going to help.

Also that would be a huge advangate for servers that blob with numbers… and make WvW more empty at then end, more stacked server vs empty server situations, the linking sistem is already awfull, there no need to scramble it further.

The are already shown in the game with the wvw menu and when you hover over the wvw icon on the menu bar. Which funny enough you can’t even take a screenshot with that bonus list lol, had to use my phone to take the pic which I’ve attached.
Anyways any hardcore raiding guild might want to use those specs in their requirements, but I doubt anyone does, too many random factors to bother with it. If they really want to bother with the bonuses, raid at the end of the week when the bonuses are the strongest no matter what server you’re on. If they are even enabled within any of the instances, dungeons/fractals/raids/personal story.
My reason to have it moved to a buff to display the bonuses is to advertise for wvw, much like they do when they’re running the mist buff for wvw, or the esports buff at spvp tournament times.
The buffs have been in the game from day one, they’re just not noticeably displayed to players, or more importantly to the pve crowd that mostly play this game and benefit the most from using all those buffs. If we want new players to wvw, that’s the crowd as have to try and get them from. Maybe if we show them the buffs they get from wvw they will maybe want to take a chance and try wvw to help gain them.
If the bonuses last past the skirmish scoring changes anyways, it was mentioned it may be taken out because overall scoring will be different.

Well… there is a ui option, unclick the tracks above the minimap. Only reason to ever look at the participation track is to see when it’s starting to decrease after not be active in battle for 10 mins.
But I agree it’s annoying and need an adjustment of placement of the chests or the circle icon that brings up the tracks above the map. I’ll throw this in the qol thread.
Yes you do end up with one extra slot on the rings, when you get them attuned/infused.
Could have just as well dumped the extra slot on the amulet and called it a day. Instead we get this run around to pull kitten off rings, attune them then dump infusions back on.

I’m surprised DB is open still, but I think it’s because players have been moving to IoJ rather than DB, much cheaper transfer cost, 500 than 1800.
Right now they have it as free accounts are stuck on the server they chose, if they upgrade to HoT they get a free transfer from the purchase. You can’t even delete all your characters to get the free transfers like the paid accounts can, which is still terrible anyways especially if a player already blew their upgrade potion.
It’s a little punishing to newer players who don’t have a clue to what server they’re picking, the server list only shows wvw population status, no glicko, no actual ranks, no links, nothing on current matchup, all that needs to be sourced from outside sites.
Not that most newbs would care about any of that stuff unless they got super serious about wvw, they would only care to play with guild mates and friends in the end. Which a lot of times, you don’t connect with until you’re already in the game and already picked your server.
1 free transfer to every account might be a bit much, but I don’t think it would be a bad idea to have that level 80 upgrade that comes with HoT also throws in a free transfer.
I mean look at the number of classes that are accepted for wvw already, they’re mostly exclusive to just guardians, eles, necros, mesmers, 1-2 warriors, and revenants. Medium classes are usually tossed to the side and left to rot.
It would be great if we could use venomshare thieves and invoke other guilds to do so. It’s really a shame that people have such high ego over not putting thieves in the zerg.
No, it’s just that players don’t like crowd control effects, they don’t like to lose control of their characters, whether that’s slow, or chill, or immobilized, or stuns, or taunted, or feared. A great many players hate conditions as well, with venoms you get poison torment, invulnerability, chill, immobilized, stoned. Then combine it with aoe spells like with wells which are already nasty on their own…
Yeah maybe thieves and engineers and rangers have lost a place in the wvw zerg, but that’s because their skills are more solo based, classes like elementalist and guardians and revenants are built to be more group based. That’s what happens when one gets built entirely around stealth, one with half useless offensive kits, and the other with a dumb healing mechanic that people still prefer elementalist over it.
It’s not going to matter much to the groups already running a ton of boons, just another tool for them to wreck groups not so organized.
I’m just waiting for the day conditions finally kill the servers from lag.
I’m sure they meant reduce lag, improve performance.

- The WvW team has a different release schedule than the other teams and we will continue to release outside of the quarterly releases.
- Repair hammers will be coming in the beginning of August.
2 Alpine, 1 Desert and Scoring are tentatively coming the end of August.
Cannons will be coming sometime after that.
(we don’t want Cannons and Scoring going out at the same time).- No plans to refund WvW Infusions for laurels since they are still functional.
- As for lag, it is always something we are trying to improve. There are some changes coming in early August specific to WvW that should help with lag, but we are constantly working on improving lag for WvW.

You could just break down the barricades and go around, or even take another path to go around, so again, what was the point of the tower sitting next to the access route instead of actually blocking it? If no barricades were present and instead you had to go through the towers to access the next area, then the towers would have some value, but then… you get through the north towers for what? access to north camp? lol.
Oh please Jeknar if all it did was promote bunkering and siege wars you would have commanders parked up in them all the time, and you don’t. You can roam the map all you want and hope to run into a good fight, fact is attacking a structure it’s like putting up the bat signal for a fight.

- While the above change takes steps to bring the value of off-hours coverage in-line, there’s a good chance it’ll still be overvalued. If that’s the case (and we’ll eventually poll on this), then we have plans for an additional system.
- This is the Action Level – Victory Point Multiplier system
* This system would multiply the Victory Points awarded by Skirmishes based on map populations and time of day.
* During prime time hours, the multiplier would always be at it’s maximum of 3.
* During off hours, the multiplier might stay at 3 or drop to 2 or 1, depending on on activity level.
* It’s important to include map populations as a factor, to make the system more fair for off hours players and its important to include time-of-day as a factor to prevent a winning team from trying to keep the score muliplier low by exiting WvW
I don’t think that change needs to be implemented ever, and I don’t think it will be needed anyways and that the skirmish scoring mode will be enough.
If it does come down to them wanting to make the change I feel that would be the last nail in the wvw coffin, as all they would be doing is just completely reversing the runaway scoring situation instead of balancing it. Instead of the off hours running the score up it’ll be the opposite side of players, which NA players will look at it and say yeah why shouldn’t we be scoring more? Because it’s a 24/7 game not a 4/7 game.
Equal scoring standards needs to be maintained in every time zone because of how unbalanced the population is hour to hour, scoring needs to remain as the one constant. I don’t mind handing out “bonus” points, but to sides that are outnumbered not who has the biggest zerg running.

What kind of military planners set up their fortifications in siege range of (potentially enemy) fortifications?
Because it’s a game and the structures are there to promote fighting. If it’s sitting out in the middle of nowhere guarding nothing, where the attackers don’t even want to bother with it because it’s only worth is 4ppt, it might as well be a regular sentry.
If you really want to go with “real life” planning, no one is going to set up fortifications like towers right next to access ways so you can go around them lol, they’ll set it up ON it. That’s the problem of the dbl towers, they did neither of the two.
Meh this has happened before, it’ll happen again, even to your own server. You had like 20-25 kills, with over half of them being singles 6v1’d down. Ain’t knocking it since that’s what a lot of the smaller organized groups do, including my own use to, go out and get into fights like those.
You also had boon sharing going on the entire time, which probably won’t get much respect, it puts organized groups over the top on unorganized pugs, along with ts and target calling. Which isn’t your groups fault, just anets for not doing a better job with balancing.
Also, when did t2 get so salty with the siege burials, geez that use to be a mid tier thing.

It’s not just happening in t1, it’s happening in any area that has a ton of players, especially if there’s a fight involving all 3 sides. Smc is usually a good place to find it.

I started to write a reply post for this like 5 times.. and every time I get back to the same conclusion… conditions really messed up this game, to the point now that fights are about who has more conditions and boons, lopsided balance between applications and removals. I’m sure pve enjoys it quite a bit, so it isn’t going to change.
The fun of combat just isn’t there anymore.
A 6:15 pm Pacific, 9:15 pm Eastern reset means people on the west coast in 9-5 jobs have time to get home. 5:15 pm Pac, 8:15 Eastern means that east coasters can get get in 3 solid hours and get to bed before midnight. Both are good for some people, neither is good for everyone.
I like how you think est gets a “solid” 3 hours of playtime (2 for half the year) and that’s fine, but overlook the fact that pst gets a solid 6 hours of playtime if they get on by 6 their time, well if they get through the queues anyways.
Regardless of how late people work you “don’t” have to be on for the exact time reset happens (and frankly why would you rush home to get on at 6 your time in order to sit in queues created by est players?), there’s a dozen other time zones that don’t get to be on the exact time reset starts either. You log on at 8 or 9 your time like the rest of est did in their time and you avoid the queues, and when est logs off at 12, pst is still playing for 3 hours if they also get off at 12.
Oh right everyone thinks it’s special at reset time having 4 maps filled and queued, meanwhile you’re really only sitting in one map for most of the time due to not being able to jump around, unless of course you’re in the dh/eb ghost town.
The most logical time for NA reset to happen on NA servers, is during the prime time of the first time zone for NA, the most illogical time to run a patch is at the very end of the last workday before going off for the weekend. The fact that Anet cannot compromise with their customers by pushing a patch back an hour is pretty sad, they’re all also in pst time so who cares about est players.

As with others, I don’t really think we need more objectives that provide points, but I do feel like there could be more places to fight over to promote fights, whether that being over “daoc artifacts”, or something to provide boosts, or provide a map specialty like dune rollers type of thing, capture-able waypoints north side of the map, and yeah maybe extra supply.
They kinda tried it with ruins, shrines, and the dino cannon, but those are pretty much a fail, two of which can pretty much be solo capped. The problem is getting even fights in an open map setting, hard to do.

Lots of the recent polls for improving the game mode have revolved around adding things e.g. hammers and cannons to the game. What if we tried removing some siege in an attempt to drive more personal interaction? The game mode centers on group combat around capture points and, as far as i can tell, towers bristling with arrowcarts promote a bunker mentality, slow the pace of the game and deter group fights.
And what happens when a group of 30 decides to take the tower with only 5 defenders around? suicide throw our bodies off the wall into the catapults? or maybe they could start spawning rocks on the ground for us to pick up, I would so stack a pile of rocks on the walls to throw at the catapults.
More often than not, siege used by the defensive side is because they have less numbers. Ac’s are used more defensively because in some areas it’s very difficult to setup siege to counter siege. So if you want to pull the one defense siege to do that you’ll need to pull catapults that can be placed on hidey walls out too.
If an opposing force wants to pull players out for a fight, all they need to do is build long range siege, eventually a wall will go down or the defenders will come out. There’s also more than one way into every structure.
Forget cannons, I want a dune roller blueprint!
WvW players just hate everything, they will just hate it like they hate everything else.
After seeing some of the responses from the pve crew on stuff like GoB and crafting stations in WvW, I began to see the rants here from WvW folks as mild in comparison. Did you read what some of those guys wrote? Temper tantrums.

On a serious note, I don’t think it’ll get any better for FA, they’ll need to keep recruiting, I see there’s possibly four t1 servers in the rotation now. Probably the best possible matchups to get are…
BG JQ TC
FA DB MAG
YB CD (SOS or SBI)
SF DH (SOS or SBI)
I know some in t1 want DB there, they have the ppt to keep it, but most of their guilds are smaller than the usual t1 guilds, they’re more suited to t2 and JQ probably has bigger guilds.
Still a wall in between tiers, so we ain’t getting too much variety in the matchups, some servers like CD, MAG, JQ need to get out of their current tiers.
Glicko ratings definitely need some attention.

Fwiw, I have always thought that your posts were pretty fair and open minded. I may have disagreed with you at times, but you have always seemed willing to logically discuss things, and especially where the dbl/abl mixed bl poll was concerned, you always seemed to want a good compromise, even when you didn’t like dbl.
Here’s hoping that when dbl does return, they have continued to make good tweaks to it. I didn’t like it either in its original form, but as I got used to it, and especially after the first round of tweaks to it, it was starting to grow on me.

I do try to keep an open mind to stuff, of course there may be some issues I get pig headed about, but overall I try to see things from both sides, what’s possible and what isn’t. I like seeing interesting ideas that are possible come up, and I like to try and promote them with my thoughts and ideas as well. Like the 2/1 was a very good compromise, it’s too bad we had to spend more than 4 weeks to finally decide on it.
In the end wvw should be about fun, no matter your role (even duelers) on whatever map you want to play.
There was, but still a lot of other tweaks that need to be made, it was still kind of an annoying map to be on, especially ground roots and plants that got in your way too often and you have to go around, hell even the regular pve maps weren’t that bad.
Just hope there’s more work being done like to help the north towers be useful, the middle area revamped, a lot of the ground clutter cleaned up, and we’re just not waiting on programming to get abl dbl to work together.
I hate to break it to you, but a lot of people feel the exact same way about ABL. Its quite frankly not fun at all for us to play on.

Just cause I don’t like it as much as alpine and frankly I don’t really care either way cause I mostly play on ebg these day, doesn’t mean it couldn’t use some work. Alpine wasn’t as broken as desert was, and the biggest complaint of it these days is… “it’s boring” cause we’ve had it for so long.
Yet we are nice enough to not go shoving it down your throats all the time. Return the favor.

No one is forcing you to like DBL. No one is even forcing you to play on DBL.
You’re right no one is forcing me to play DBL, I took a 6 month vacation from wvw during that time. Even so I don’t think the work put into creating it should be destroyed, nor should players who like it should be shut out from it for 3 months at a time. I’ll still try it out when it returns, I just hope in better form.

There was, but still a lot of other tweaks that need to be made, it was still kind of an annoying map to be on, especially ground roots and plants that got in your way too often and you have to go around, hell even the regular pve maps weren’t that bad.
Just hope there’s more work being done like to help the north towers be useful, the middle area revamped, a lot of the ground clutter cleaned up, and we’re just not waiting on programming to get abl dbl to work together.
I assume you’re asking for 2 alpine home bl, 1 desert home bl, 1 eotm, 1 ebg?
While it might be a good idea to get the eotm population into the wvw side, just keep in mind that the sides are filled with players from all servers under those colors, when you break that back down to individual servers it may not be much gain.
Yes that’s exactly what I’m proposing for the maps. But for EotM it would be the server population not the overflow server-merging system.
Instead of having polls for months without the game changing at all I think we should have things to try, specially if they bring variety to a game mode that has seen better days.
Yeah and you’re not going to get a whole lot from server populations over the mega server population filling eotm.
Just think about it, how many instances of eotm do you regularly see open? 1 map usually maaaaybe 2, now think how many are usually running on that map, if you’re lucky a zerg or blob of 50 people, now break that down to 24 servers… You would probably make eotm a lot worse and a ghost town trying to break 1 or 2 instance worth of players into 12 instances.
That isn’t going to save wvw, because eotm or it’s population is not really a problem for wvw, I mean half the population in there are still just players leveling in there or pve players doing dailies.
There needs to be a bigger solution to draw players into wvw.

This will make the game mode less competitive imo & I hope this doesn’t happen but it seems like it is…
Hate to break this to you…. but wvw was never competitive due to the population and coverage gaps of every server involved. Points are only there to determine how much glicko you gain or lose from week to week, which then determines which matchups you will have the next week. Glicko, which they now have to manually fiddle with to give a t4 server a chance at t3.
Even the tournaments showed it wasn’t a competitive mode. At the end of the day it’s all meaningless, unless you really want 3 extra chests with green and blue salvage items.
Hopefully with the desert taking a while to return, that means some work will be put into it.
