The core for each party is at least one warrior and one ele and in general one guard OR mesmer. They both can do excellent jobs on their own, yet since mesmer is harder to perform these, most ppl (especially pugs) use guard instead. For example at caudecus manor, the mesmer has more reflection and enough condi cleanse and stability for everything the guard could do. But to drop a simple perma stabi is much easier than to time a mantra.
Mesmer are also used in record runs for reflection and time warp and they will always use a lightning hammer in those records to deal damage too. They get babysit and will babysit.
You can play a mesmer for efficiency, especially at fractals of the mists. But it’s hard to master and it will force you to retrait all the time. But yea, if you like this as much as I do, keep playing mes and become a good one, rather than a “I always stay on weaponset + utility I’ve seen at metabattle.com” mesmer …

They shouldn’t let the phants count for ranger runes 6th bonus, they should just let phants be affected by runes in general. Scholar runes? Phants with 90%+ HP get 10% dmg bonus, and so on.
It doesn’t work with banners. It works with minions, pets and spirits. Companions that really are ones.

Working as intended. Same happens to any skill you blow into the void. Especially mesmer suffer from this when they summon phantasms and the target dies b4 they’re done.
If you were the only one I beleve you just did a 49 instead of 50 b4 and screwed up. I never ever ever ever EVER had that issue and I run 20, 30, 40 and 50 every day 7 days a week.
Still not fixed, leaving about 20 messages via bug splat bug report every day …
I’m okay with this fix ANet, I understand that Illusions are not companions, they are rather visual dot’s and skills itself, affecting an enemy. The problem is not that this rune does no longer work on Mesmer, the problem is that we have no good alternative. The mesmer already suffers from half of it’s damage (Phantasms) beeing unable to get any benefits from sigils and runes. The 7% dmg was infact just a 3.5%~. So we can only use scholar now and hope to have more than 90% HP during reflection time. Great, thank you ANet. Bring us already some actual runes we can make use of…
Guys … you know that the condition damage that AFFECTS confusion has been buffed by 33%, not condition damage itself! So the condition damage RATIO has been increased, the base damage is still the same.
At least they work on ranger, I can deal, though pretty lame for mesmers… not like they need more things to hurt their damage potential. Ohh well, my auto attack damage will go up!

You want to run scepter and dagger in both weapon sets and use a battle sigil. And you want to drop staff mastery and take path of midnight. Dark path and tainted shackles are good skills for condi. And tainted shackles is good for power aswell. Also if people dont stack might you want signet mastery and aristocracy runes.
This is a good “bad party adivce”. My post was mainly focused on high lv fotm. I expect 25 stacks might even from pugs. So S/D + S/D and battle would be a terrible thing. You also don’t really need the DS cdr, since they won’t make your rotation better, yet a too long staff cd on staff 2 will annoy your rotation. You will go into DS while being on staff, after using 2#, wich is ready again when you left DS.

… is this the way you should go. You can swap out the stacking sigil if you don’t think it’s worth it, I’m not a fan of them, but it’ll be fun I guess. You can also go 46400 for bigger staff fields too if you really need them, but I doubt it.

The playstyle goes like this, BiP > Deathly Swarm > Sharpnel Mine > Grasping Dead > 2 Scepter Autoattacks > Enfeebling Blood > DS > Dark Path > and now keyboard roll and volla! you have definitely over 25 Bleeding Stacks Sustainable :>, so the best race for conditonmancer is Charr.. When you go hybrid, you focus on power and half conditions. Then you’d be better dropping epidemic and everything too and go straight for power. Hybrid builds always have flaws. You will never go a power and a condi weapon, you will always go full A or B and get a bit of the other damage sources. In this case you must focus on max condi damage for epidemic to have it’s full potential.
As I mentioned above, my build was inteded to fit high lv fotm, where weakness is extremly noticable and aoe with staff, aswell condi transfer + share is highly recommended. We can argue about the usefulness of a staff, yet someone who calls weakness useless clearly underestimates it’s power and must also think boons like protection are useless aswell…
While this is a great change I always thought the main problem with conditions wasn’t so much the damage (which is low or limited application) but how they don’t work on objects like doors, crates, turrets, and other destructibles?
So even with the change it still wont by any means be desired in any way shape or form over power.
When 4 others can do it I really see no problem in that. Everything has it strengths and weaknesses, so do power builds.
Are there any boss fights in HoT beta where the boss has immunity to direct damage but still takes condition damage?
It would be nice to have encounters where both direct damage and damage over time are needed.
There already are high toughness enemies (husks). You deal like 20% dmg but still 100% condi damage since conditions ignore armor. Those are the main targets for condis.
So mesmer have no runes now anymore right? Scholar too for some crappy semi good 10% that only affect half of our damage? Or more raw stats with some stuff like pack?

If you got resistance, keep in mind that the conditions will run out and not be stopped from ticking. They simply deal no damage. So you can protect yourself from spike or confusion.

The living story is actually pretty easy to do With any class ^^ Even if you die 100 times, you’ll make it through. For solo you really could go this same build, yet with a troch + rabid. (tanky = easy). It’s ok to start wich cheap masterwork trinkets.
Yea, played him today too. Ridiculously strong… Immediately stack 15 stacks confusion and then consume your vuln stacks. Just no ANet. Same goes for the stability field. 100% uptime, permanently 5 stacks. Give those skills a much higher cost, you shouldn’t be able to spam them like this.
Did you have a mini pet out? I think those count for rune of the ranger too.

You know, weakness is wanted in high lv fotms. The condi necro is totally able to keep this up to every enemy. Now if this really finally gets fixed, he’d deal ton’s of damage, when everyone focuses the same target with bleeds and he spreads the stuff. I mean comon, spread like 50 stacks bleed with 2000 condition damage to 5 tagets → 35k dps
Celectial engi, condition staff mesmer for single target dips, aoe condi necro + weakness for higher fotm, yes there will be good stuff. Not every class is weaker as condi

If you get 25 stacks + in pvp of bleeding, then you would also be already dead by any power build that has hit you so many times. It’s totally fair.
PvE condi necro is awesome now, good amount of bleed for an average dps, yet finally you can use your weakness skills to get actually usefull in high level fractals. Maybe a bit euphoric, but I will definitly get my necro a condi outfit.

Since you’re asking for dungeons in pve, there conditions are a no go (unless you solo). However there are serval places for them all, yet they are all more defensive and provide utility, wich is rather needed in fractals of the mists than dungeons.
The focus is by far the best offhand we have! You clearly underestimate it’s power and utility. The curtain (4#) is a short cd wall of reflection (traited) and can be used a 2nd time to pull all mobs towards it’s center. You can pull and stack mobs better than any other class. This skill can also be used for interrupts and unstack when required. The iWarden (5#) is a high burst, low dps phantasm that also shields allies from projectiles. When you trait it it even reflects projectiles for potential ultra high dmg. It cleaves and therefore hits 3 targets, making it the best damage phantasm with a sword mainhand we have for aoe. And the only one :| …
The scepter is the best choice for ranged single target dps when you can make use of an additional block. For instance, the moss man, the 4 bosses at the uncathegorized fractal, mai thrin, etc. The main reason to take this as a ranged option is that it’s dps is higher than the dps of the GS in medium and close combat and also let you take another offhand. The pistol and the sword both are great choices for single target dps.
The staff is a very specific weapon. You will really rarely use it, since it’s only great for mobility, defense or as a single target dps truck. If you have a condi spammer party, like with an engineer, there will always be plenty of conditions on your target. If you face a boss with so many conditions on it, the iWarlock is by far the best dps phantasm we have. You will summon two of them, maybe cast a chaos storm (if you won’t cause trouble with a kittenty combo field) and then swap to melee, staying on that until the enemy dies. It’s also a good weapon against mai thrin to block her pistol shots, yet i prefer scepter + focus there (and sword + sword). The staff is also the best open world dps weapon, when you join big events like the silver wastes when you hunt champs with a zerg. The iWarlock can crit up to 25’000 every few seconds, with 3 of em, you outdamage any other class by a mile. Yet ppl still love GS aa spams wich is horrible :< Lazy ppl won’t swap weapons >.<
The torch really IS a hard weapon to find a place for it. Yet there are 2 where you can take it. First you can trait it and it becomes a condi cleanser. It’s phantasm will also cleanse conditions with each attack, wich might come handy in some situations. The 2nd role it can take is as a blast finisher + minor dps increase against many targets. You see, it’s not good to summon a iSwordsman against 2 or more targets. The duration of the summoning is too long and it’s own dps will never catch up the dps loss of yourself, the damage you didnt inflict to those two or more targets. So if you want to stay melee you can indeed use the torch offhand and it’s 0 cast time invis + dmg + blind + burn for some dps increase. Yet you can also use sword offhand but only for using skill 4 twice, wich is a daze in a line and will stack vulnerability to targets, interrupt them and fi traited damage them. The torch is special, yet still useful at the right place. It’s also good for skips.
Anything else? You can ask me whatever you want about those weapons. Every mesmer weapon has it’s place!
PS: I suggest to trait for 3 mantra charges + use mantra of pain instead of ANY auto attack except the sword AA. I’ve tested the dps of all weapons and you will deal more damage with mantra of pain spam than with any auto attack from a ranged weapon. Mantra of pain is very underestimated, use it, you’ll love it!

yea that’s no bug, that’s just the terrible concept of a net for us having phantasms. they won’t get any sigil nor rune benefits. they just copy some of our stats. it’s unfair but hey, at least they die fast and have a much too long cast time … ughhhh

Dagger needs a 2 to 1 target nerf again, + a dmg buff overall. Then the greatsword will fill the cleaving role. Dagger itself is fine, 3 is a great root, 2 is ment for heal rahter than dps. It’s a good weapon.

I’d like to see more utility and especially stronger utility on the mesmer. Imagine a mesmer that focuses on it’s utilities, plays tanky so he can survive as long as possible and interrupt, strip, cleanse, transfer, decive with actually good results.
Let’s take an example: Nullfield. It’s a laughtable skill compared to other professions. It draws slowly conditions and boons and that’s it. It has a short duration and a long cd. Now imagine it would tick twice as fast and it would prevent the gain of boons and conditions while standing in it. That’s a “oh kitten i don’t want to stay in there” skill.
And all mesmer skills should feel like this.
Chaos storm too, it’s just not that overwhelming as it should be. You shouldn’t be able to act properli in that thing. Imagine it’s duration increased and every 2nd tic is a daze. It needs less rng and more WOAH.
I don’t want the mesmer to become another max dps + some utility profession. It should be the max utility + some dps profession. Right now it is the some dps and some utility profession …
