None. I play a lot of characters and a lot of equipment sets. For me, the best use was getting more ascended accessories that take a LOT of laurels otherwise.

Laurels take a lot of time to collect!

get yourself a casual guild that does Guild Missions, the cheapest and easiest way to get accessories is with Guild Commendations.

I am really loving the discussion going on in this thread. This is a testament to how awesome our community is! Alright so now that we have flushed out some ideas let me give you some guide lines and let me know if we can design around it.

1. Must be able to be hot join-able
* Not easily griefed and allow players to be able to jump in and out
2. Must fit the 5 on 5 standard
3. Can fit our standard PvP match time (15 mins)
4. (Would Be Nice) Shout castable

Alright let me know how your ideas fit or change with these standards.

I think the biggest addition needed for this would be a pre-game player draft to create teams.

2 Team captains, they choose others from the waiting list to add to the team, and during the match should not allow team swapping. Only allow new players to fill a spot left be a leaving player (which is crappy…there should be a leaver punishment of some kind)

  1. The boss fight mechanics – namely the Molten Facility bosses (both mini-boss and dual end-bosses), Toxic Hybrid, Twisted Marionette, and Prime Hologram.
  2. The new music.
  3. The aftermaths of Tower of Nightmares and Battle for Lion’s Arch. The feel of repercussions and permanence – all that was missing was keeping the old look in the personal story steps, and permanence to the instances.

I am so disappointed they completely killed the nostalgic remnants of the old Lion’s Arch with that monstrosity

You know that 90% of the ruins that were there before… are still there right? You just have added chunks of metal. But the barracks, the lion statues, the aqueducts, and even the fountain that was right next to the drill are there still.

Don’t believe me? Go for a dive.

I found 2 sets of scattered stairways, and whats left of the fountain….hardly 90%

I will just use the current tPvP maps for examples:

Legacy of the Foefire:
-Change side node to: "Each captured side node grants 5% bonus stats to the team who controls each.
-Center Node: Controlling the center node causes the gates of the enemy team to become vulnerable.
-Main Objective: Kill the enemy team’s Lord.

Battle of Khylo:
-Remove all nodes
-Change Side Nodes would become new Trebuchet locations (destroyable)
-Change Repair Kits to become team-colored Flags
-Change previous trebuchet location to become a flag stand.
-Main Objective: Bring the enemy teams flag to your flag stand 3 times.
Note: Players can pick up their own flag if it is dropped by an enemy player, will be dropped after 10 seconds, and removes the players weapon skills (allowing to re-position their flag)

Forest of Niflhel:
-Change side nodes to be Bomb Sites.
-Carrying a bomb removes weapon skills, and slows the player by 25%
-Remove middle node, change gate nearby to be destroyable.
-Change mob locations to be capturable, capturing these locations causes a wave of “minions” to assault the enemy bomb site.
Main Objective: Destroy the gate, place and defend a bomb on the alter for 15 seconds.
Secondary Objective: Have minions destroy the enemy bomb site, the team with the remaining bomb site wins.

Temple of the Silent Storm:
-Remove Nodes
-Change each node to a Primary Shrine
-Primary Shrines (node replacements) equate to 50 points on capture. 3 Minute respawn.
-Secondary Shrines (current shrines) equate to 10 points on capture. 1 minute respawn.
Primary Objective: Reach 500 points.

Most epic one for me: weaknesses of warriors (Dev quote):

Little ability to deal with enemy boons
Reliant on adrenaline to use many abilities
Can become overwhelmed by conditions if their defenses expire

=>If I read carrefully, the only weakness I really see here is that warriors seem to not be the best at boon removal.
I see a lot of professions that would trade all their weakness for this one.

I am sure they have a trait that does more damage if the target has boons on. Its like 3% a boon or something.

I watched about 20 mins and realised they have no clue what they are talking about. Warriors with near 20 seconds of immunity, 10 seconds of condition and fear immunity, a cleanse on about 5 seconds CD. Not to mention then soldiers ammy, intelli sigil gg and good night viena. The very notion they can be considered weak is unreal.

I am sure every thief could trade the s/d #3 for the highest HP in the game, best at stacking toughness and condition clear and damage immunity whilst still be able to put out high damage. Yeah, I think they would be happy to swap that……

Where do you get 20 seconds of immunity from? o.O its 4s (5 with trait) for each…so 8-10 seconds tops (one of them being not on-demand)

I am seeing alot of “top 3” type posts, cmon guys, put some deep thought into what that ONE thing you feel is the best from Season 1.

I could easily say the marionette style multi-team fight, or the gauntlet 1v1 challenges, or the Legend of Zelda-esque crystal hunts from Bazaar, boss battles from the F&F dungeon, etc. etc.

I wanna see more #1, the most important thing to the player.

How hard would extra maps be?

It has come to the point that as WvW has not received real updates since launch that we ourselves would not mind doing the testing.

I can appreciate that many people don’t like EotM, but don’t conflate a lack of updates that you personally like with a lack of updates. WvW has added a great deal of content and rewards over just the last calendar year.

Hopefully you will find more you like in future updates and we’ll continue to add to the game.

It seems like a lot more people like eotm than dislike it. Also seems like a lot more people like eotm than borderlands. Seems like there’s at least a few packed eotm instances 24/7 while borderlands even in t1 feels like a ghost town 90% of the day. It even feels like people who prefer organized wvw over champ farming are in eotm more often now. I seem to be following commanders who are setting up AC defense points and trying to jump enemy groups just as often as champ farming lately.

Eotm has a lot of interesting design elements and actually has the loot and xp gains to keep a stable playing population even at off hours. There’s so many little disparities between eotm and borderlands that don’t help. In borderlands most of the objectives only offer one loot chest while in eotm they all offer two except generators and and guard posts which offer one and zero. The borderlands achievements are patently impossible to complete, there isn’t even a point trying. The numbers are set so high that it should be considered a game bug. You guys say there’s technical issues and you don’t want to wipe everyone’s current credit. But how hard can it really be to write a script that harvests the current AP data from an account and applies it towards a new achievement? Rubbish if you ask me.

There’s a lot going wrong with borderlands and it’s not just map design, which isn’t even that bad if you ask me. You’re not going to draw in long term wvw players with DAoC nostalgia alone. The loot, XP, and APs need to be there too even if that’s not what the most hardcore WvWers care about. If all you want in borderlands is the most hardcore 2% of players then mission is already accomplished and we can we can stop talking about it anyway.

That is exactly what EotM has over the borderlands, it is basically WvW, without the PPT, with much better loot. They need to make the objectives in the borderlands less stagnant, offer better rewards for defending, and offer more areas in corners of the maps for small roaming groups to aid the server.

I’ve worked hard to get my leaderboard rank and personal skill up. What frustrates me is when I get matched with people who don’t even know the basics of how to play. My mmr should prevent me from ever seeing those people, but instead I get them every other match, which makes me pretty cranky.

Step 1: Don’t worry about your MMR or Leaderboard position, it means practically nothing….
Step 2: Rotate yourself to where you are needed, rather than observing your teammates…
Step 3: Start enjoying playing again…

Sounds like you should try the ‘Play Now’ button. It prioritizes servers that are just starting a map, has playable space, and is the same server other people will hop into when they use ‘Play Now’ so that they’re usually never empty and/or fill up quickly.

Quite a few times (maybe it depends on the time of day) that I end up in completely empty matches, or completely 1 sided.

I literally only use Play Now to join on matches, and its either empty (waiting for players) or some 5v3.

It is really a 50/50 right now

Think of a mixture between Fractals (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fractals_of_the_Mists) and Savage Labyrinth/Cave of Ordeals (http://zelda.wikia.com/wiki/Savage_Labyrinth)

It would consist of 50-100 floors, starting at 0, each getting more and more difficult as you progress, and the rewards would be a chance at some of the rarer skins available throughout the game.

It would offer a similar selection layout as a dungeon (players make a choice which “path” they would like) and this would determine which skin they would have a chance at receiving as a drop as they progress.

Each path would offer a reward (gold/karma) at each set of 10 floors completed beyond 50. (50/60/70/80/etc.)

The layout of the floors would be significantly smaller in scale than fractals and mainly consist of fighting a selection of enemies, with a “Boss Wave” before each 10th floor.

Yes, I know it is RNG, but at least it’s not RNG locked behind more RNG, locked behind gems…some random is good, all random is bad.

I’m not against 5-man endgame…. if they give me back my kitten heroes.

I am thinking the Heros/Henchmen would be considered solo-end game.

It would be nice to be able to create your own 5-man with some pre-build AI though, just the classes/roles they would fit.

But nothing beats doing things with friends alot of the time, just not pugs.

Open-World End-Game


Solo end-game could include things such as: Liadri style combat, Personal Story style missions (including AI armies / team), mini-game mechanics tests such as the crystal hunt in the Labyrinthian Cliffs.

5-man end-game could include things such as randomized 5-man dungeons (not fractals) with objective based gameplay rather than Point-A-to-Point-B, Boss encounters, 5-man triggered Dynamic Events (similar to how Siegerazor works in WvW).

Open-World end-game could include things such as smaller scaling versions of the Wurm, Marionette, world bosses (noone likes zerging…its boring), large-scale PvEvP hybrids, PvE dungeon/fortress assaults/defense.

A personal note, I would like many of these to contain a barrier of entry of some sort, to prevent the mass zerg mentality.

The thing is that, it can be a “hot-join” mode as well, it would be ideal as a pre-made vs pre-made, but randomized teams would work just fine too if the objectives were built properly.

Things like Battle of Fort Trinity would work similar to something like Strand of the Ancients from WoW, or any gate-assault mode from various other games (i just went with the easy comparison)

you just need to mix and match a bit, you can find some skimpy stuff for all 3 tiers of armor, and both genders, but definitely not as many on males.

I noticed this after going through some of the personal story etc. (i was REALLY bored…)

But these missions:

These would make rather interesting PvP maps / scenarios / game-modes

Attack/Defense style pvp where it would be a push/pull battle for both teams to try and complete their objectives.

….That’s it, that’s the suggestion…just asking to add some attack/defense style pvp.

Terrain bug is still there. Anet only nerfs never fixes.

This isn’t even the terrain bug (which effects every leap, for every class…it is even worse for Ranger GS 3)

But yes, they seems to have a few problems acknowledging that this exists

And from what I can tell, it is only the Hammer F1 that causes the weird “teleport” animation

But they need to get a collective team together and fix the plethora of Z-Axis bugs as well

Here’s the thing.

The lvl 80 dragon finisher is terrible.

As cool as the lvl 80 dragon finisher it is, it doesn’t work. All your opponent sees is a big blue stick… The cool dragon happens high above hs field of vision and he can’t even see it. Even the bunny finisher is better, because at least your opponent actually has to witness the bunny.

The dragon from the finisher is too high up so nobody sees it. Something like the shark finisher is way cooler.

He is talking about the new finisher added to the gem store.

Which is actually very nostalgic towards the dragon rank from HA in GW1

I was looking at the bandit bridge last night and I’ve got to say I’ve never noticed it before. Has it always been there?

Also, in the south/southwest portion of the zone, there is a rather significant pocket of chaos magic that will be familiar to anyone who’s visited the Thaumanova reactor…flickering lightning, various critters being ported in and out, etc. I know we have that pesky Inquest nearby messing about in the swamp but again, this is something I failed to noticed before.

Old news, or new development?

The pocket of Chaos Magic, bandit fort, and the bridge to nowhere have been in-game since beta as have all portals that lead to nowhere that can be found in the game everywhere. Why they haven’t used the ones nearest to Southsun, I have no idea as there is only 3/4 to less than half a zone width worth of space between the useable areas of both adjacent zones.

Anyway, I put my money on the bandit bridge to nowhere – I haven’t been able to break into that part of the zone yet so no screenshots of it from me.

It is easy to get near the portal across the bridge, but they have some tricky invisible walls that get you stuck when you are a few feet away.

There are an absolute crapload of portals, all over a lot of the maps, that have been there since launch, and have never been used.

I wouldn’t put it past Anet to actually not use the ones we have and just hamfist a new one in somewhere…

Well yeah. It makes sense to have a portal already in place to a future new zone. Just slap a map at the other end of it, and BAM! you’re ready to roll. Otherwise you’d have to redesign the area around the portal to put one in when needed. So why not just have pre made portals everywhere?

I suppose Anet COULD just “hamfist” them in, but if they already have them it would be incrediably stupid NOT to use it.

You completely missed the point of the post then, because so far, that is exactly what they have been doing.

Mind you, there have only added 2 zones so far (1 temporary)

But instead of them being linked in any meaningful way, you just take a magical boat ride there instead.

the Zephyr Sanctum is due east of Mount Maelstrom (and not that far from the jumping puzzle on the eastern border of the zone)

Southsun Cove is practically touching Caledon forest, and nearly on the other side, with Sparkfly Fen.

Which brings me to an example, there is a path, blocked by a bolder, in Sparkfly Fen, that would in theory, lead directly to Southsun….but it was never used. This leaves an option to later on add a zone between Sparkfly and Southsun…but currently makes no sense why it hasn’t been used thus far.

I am glad they finally teased us with an image of a portal though, which means there is a high probability it won’t be some magic boat/airship ride to the new areas. (yay)

It will just be the first time they have actually done it since launch…

If a necro enters lich form you do one of 2 things….or both:

1.) Kite….his auto attack is all he will use, just move around and he can’t hurt you

2.) use LoS…oh hes a giant lich now? Use that nearby lamp post to completely negate all of his damage.

Once Lich ends….beat the !$@# out of him, because power necro without lich is nothing before your might (stacking)

Yes…this is just another speculation thread. So there are currently 2 portals in Brisban worth noting

1 we can see, not accessible (by normal means) across a broken bridge being repaired(?) by bandits

1 out of sight, in the Bandit stronghold, accompanied by an Asuran(?) portal also located inside the fort.

I will try and make my way to the one located across the bridge, but from what I can tell, the “vines” that are in the teaser image are not around the portal at the end of the bridge (at least not in our version perhaps?) and the one in the fort definitely does not look anything like the one in the image as well.

This also opens up the possibility for TWO zone to open up, from near each other. The Fort leading West, and the Bridge leading North.

I am not sure which is the most likely, due to the area of the leyline seemingly going between the 2.

I am more inclined to think the Western portal would be the one opening…but the teaser image contradicts that.

Perhaps there will be a third?!

There is a zone portal, and an Asuran portal inside the keep. I make a habit of breaking maps, and there are unlinked zone portals EVERYWHERE

So if you want to bring it back in line can we assume that the disabled foe requirement would be removed to become an always active 10%?

With or without the requirement, 10% would bring it back into line with all other weapon traits in the game. Where is the reason for one specific weapon to suddenly put out 20% more damage with its respective trait (even if it has a prerequisite) than any other weapon and their respective traits?

Sword: +10% crit
Axe: +150 Ferocity
Greatsword/Spear: 10% damage
Rifle/Harpoon Gun: Pierce
Shield: +180 Toughness, -20% cooldown
Mace: +10% damage against weakened foes, -20% cooldown
Hammer: +20% damage against disabled foes, -20% cooldown
Warhorn: Convert 1 condition to a boon, -20% cooldown
Longbow: Damage increased against burning foes, -20% cooldown

See what I did there? There are a total of three weapons whose damage increment depends on a condition/CC on the foe. That’s nothing new.

As for why it’s 20% and not 10%? For the same reason why Axe gets Ferocity, Rifle gets Pierce and Sword crit%: For diversity.

Ya…and how many people use the mace and longbow one….noone, because they are too situational and provide very little bonus. Some people may use the longbow one here and there, but its very few, and the amount that use the mace trait? lol

It has not changed.

I’ve noticed it as well. After awhile it slowed down until I no longer got points for track progression.

It doesnt slow down, it has a base amount + what you earn in the match. After 10 matches it stops rewarding. If you do poorly in a match, or come into a match late, you get less points.

Longbow bug?

It happens on slanted terrains, or when you were in the starting or ending animation of jumping/falling

it makes the think you are still falling, making you unable to use any skills etc…..it lame, but it is also not longbow, or warrior, specific.

I think the main process that people seem to miss, is that the majority of esports games (aside from Starcraft) were created naturally and are never “forced” or built to be “esports”

Moba style games were built by players essentially from the RTS genre, Counter Strike was a Half-Life mod that became super competitive naturally, Street Fighter was just an arcade game.

The problem is, you need something players want to play consistently, something that is fun, something engaging, and something that can be calculated. Then it comes down to the PLAYERS to make it into a sport…not forced by the developers.
