First: Rework Story Mode

- Reworking the current story mode of the dungeons to be solo story content (or parties, just like Personal Story) this will allow players to get that little bit more of the story in between the Personal Story, and help flesh out the overarching story between the members of destiny’s edge.

Second: Rework Explorable Dungeon Paths

Cut the explorable dungeons, rework them as fractals that change depending on which tier of fractal it is, or the fractal level (3 paths, change them per encounter)

Perhaps instead of just throwing them into the current mix of fractals (which are much shorter) they could have their own separate progression track as their own set of fractals, rewarding their respective tokens, and allowing them to be directly accessed from the Fractal hubs rather than game world traveling.

I think this could work, but it would all depend on much time Anet has to dedicate to a team, considering they just took a tiny team and made raids, and a fractal team is doing excellent work as well…I think it would be done

Rating +/- is so demoralizing

Getting around +4 for a win and -20 for a loss is just crushing, demoralizing and removes all and any incentive to even queue. when you have to work exponentially harder to even come out even in rating, that to me sounds like a problem.

An example:

My last 9 matches:

Total Rating gain: 40 ( +9, +4, +4, +9, +6, +8)

Total Rating loss: 52 (-16,-17-19)

Win/Loss: 6-3

So all in all, 60% winrate, total rating change of -12

The losses, as well, were all REALLY close games (433-500, 495-501, 459-500) which makes the rating loss feel even worse.

Their algorithm of combining ratings from all teammates in mainly randomly chosen teams is abhorrent, and does nothing but punish players who solo, and barely gives any control for those who duo.

There is absolutely no reward or motivation to be found in gaining +5 for a win and -20 for a loss, no matter what way you swing it.

Even if they inflate the actual rating scale, it would slow down the massive change in rating gain/loss that happens, but would be the same issue, just with bigger numbers, its a difficult thing to even deal with.

Depends on your playstyle. I never liked playing casters, so I play a power Reaper with GS and Axe/Wh for a bit of range. Are you more interested in condis? power? reaper? non-reaper?

Started a PvP match, and the game hung while loading.

Re-opened the game, and now have a “transaction in progress” error?

Then reloaded again…and STILL get a hung screen when loading….

What kind of error is this? why can’t it load my match? Very strange….

-Test out separate queue for TDM/CTF- (Team Deathmatch / Capture The Flag)

TDM:

  • Remove queue for Stronghold.
  • Add Courtyard to TDM map selection. (possibly make map slightly larger)
  • Alternate maps: Remove side nodes from Legacy of the Foefire and Eternal Coliseum and add revamped maps to TDM Map Selection.
  • New mechanic: Single node in center of map that fully self decaps automatically over 1 minute (cannot be stalled). Points will not accumulate on kills by either team if middle node is not captured by any team, once captured, both teams will gain 5 points per kill. Additionally, the point-controlling team gains 1 point every second for the 1 minute duration.

Possible CTF Alternative:

  • Flag will spawn just outside both team’s spawn area and must be carried to the center of the map and planted (channel ability) gaining 2 points every second while controlled.
  • Flag carrier gains armor, regen and speed buffs periodically every 10 seconds.
    -This will create a fight scenario similar to Temple of the Silent Storm Tranquility buff.-

Reasoning for middle node and objectives focusing around map center:
Mainly to prevent spawn camping, having players needing to retreat or approach the middle of the map prevents snowball situations where an entire team will sit outside spawn and farm kills. In TDM, if noone watches mid and it decaps automatically, kills will gain no points and a team will require to either retreat or place themselves in a 4v5 to send 1 person to capture mid.

I must be an oddball among all these 1v1/3v3 etc fans because I always thought GW2 sPvP failed to attract people due to not doing what it does best – group combat. I would rather have seen 8v8-12v12 on larger maps instead.

In GW1, at the end of the tutorial you get thrown into a pvp match for a taste of pvp. They needed that here.

True, even if it was only for Prophecies, and even then, when there wasn’t a full group to fight against, it placed you against bots, which are non-existent in GW2

If only they listened to the community This could have been avoided.

The community doesn’t have the best track record for recommending changes. I would also argue that the community did not go out of its way to make it successful. There were a few people that made an effort to make it successful, but not nearly enough.

There were actually quite a few good suggestions way back when, but Anet never read the forums much, threads were shut down, and really Anet never implemented any 1/2 decent changes anyways.

Really they just have to look back at GW1 for inspiration, but they ignore it like the plague.

I think an important tutorial that would help a lot of new players is how to read the map.

It could be something simple, like an instance where you have to first capture a point and then you need to go where your minimap is pinging.
This would show people that you don’t need to go all the way to a capture point that already have someone from your team on it, and should actually go help where it is needed.

Another one is focus targets.
You get in a battle against a few opponents where each one of them gets target focus and you have a few seconds to kill it (it would die in a few hits while the other opponents are invul) or it will insta-kill you.

That is a good idea as well, teach them how to target, as well as follow targets. Learning which targets are priority usually comes with experience though with meta shifts

    (Here, we will learn about the basic mechanics of the various PvP Environments.)
  • Open your PvP Build window.
    (This screen will help you build your character to fight alongside teammates in PvP matches. The Traits, Sigils and Amulet are all you need to get started in PvP. These will change as you swap between PvP and PvE areas, so be sure to open this window when you enter any PvP zone to double-check your setup.)
  • Rally an ally in the Training Grounds.
    (Keeping your allies alive is important in all game-types, but even more so in a PvP environment, so be sure to revive fallen allies to keep your team strong.)
  • Stomp an Enemy in the Training Grounds.
    (Just as important as reviving allies, defeating an enemy is also a great way to strengthen your team, and make your enemies rethink their strategy and positioning.)
  • Use a Trebuchet in the Training Grounds.
    (This secondary objective is located on the Battle of Khylo PvP map and allows you to bombard an area with heavy hitting Trebuchet shots to give your allies the edge in battle.)
  • Destroy a Trebuchet in the Training Grounds.
    (Both teams in Battle of Khylo start the match with a trebuchet ready for them, so destroying the enemies is a great way to reduce any advantage they can gain from it.)
  • Repair the broken Trebuchet in the Training Grounds.
    (Even if your Trebuchet is destroyed, or you destroy the enemy team’s Trebuchet, the Repair Kit is a tool that can make it usable again during a match.)
  • Gain a temporary buff by defeating The Chieftain or Svanir in the Training Grounds.
    (By defeating these neutral monsters on the Forest of Niflhel, you will grant your team an instant 25 points as well as a helpful buff to boost your team’s power and stats.)
  • Kill the enemy Guild Lord.
    (On the Legacy of the Foefire map, there is a powerful NPC heavily guarded in each team’s base. By defeating this NPC you will grant your team an instant 150 points.)
  • Channel and capture a neutral node in the Training Grounds.
    (Many maps in PvP require you to channel for a brief moment in order to capture an objective or buff. Such as the Orb of Ascension on Spirit Watch and various buffs on Temple of the Silent Storm.)

The most common mistake I see when helping new players, is that they have a pre-set pvp build that they don’t even know they have loaded, because the game doesn’t really tell them how anything works in the sPvP lobby, besides a few “hints” when you first enter sPvP, which isn’t enough!

Players are never directed to the training grounds either, or taught about some of the basics of sPvP…most new players I end up helping out don’t even know there is a build window or how to change it…THIS IS HUGE and honestly, not only disappointing, but unacceptable…

~First thing is first, please give the PvP build window a default keybind! I don’t know how this has slipped the dev’s minds for so long, but for the love of balthazar, set it to a keybind for players and let them know what button it is. ~

Now that is out of the way:

All PvP reward tracks should be locked until you complete a basic “Training Track” that would involve mechanics in the training area and progress something similar to: (excluding cannons…because no current maps use them) if a player has not achieved any PvP rank (so it only triggers on new players really, but who knows, some older players may find it useful too)

Each of these will have a popup window (like hints) that would describe actions and rewards for these mechanics. (the hints/popup descriptions will be in bold, and bulletpoints will be objectives.)

Players would progress through these similar to a collection, achievement, or reward track. Listed below are the requirements for progressing through the track.

The PvP team has spent all of its time ignoring what the community wants (balance, more game modes, GvG, 3v3, basic PvP foundations, tutorials, rewards, fun…) and ran PvP straight into the ground.

It would be nice to think this may be recoverable over time, but with how much they hemorrhaged the playerbase and skill balance with power creep, it never will.

i use curses for boon removel and it does work really good this season winning 75-80% of the games.

Boon removal is quite strong, I just prefer Spite just because you still get the boon removal from Spinal Shivers and Spiteful Sprit, as well as more burst potential and chill application through using those combined with Hydro procs

If you just want a rank badge i would not wait. The longer you wait, the more rating starts filling in the cracks and pushing people down. Right now with 9-0 you can get plat pretty much guaranteed, and maybe even be top20 lol

Gs/axe > GS/staff

They’re both fine sets, I just like being able to poison/interrupt skills like Shelter, Shield Block, or Crystal Hybernation. Also being able to deny an unsecured heal or stomp is quite useful.

If I felt I wanted more offensive pressure I’d prob take gs/axe, otherwise staff wins out for me since I have enough damage and just want a utility option.

Wail of Doom does the same thing, but on a slightly lower CD, but less range for interupt.

Been running a build almost identical to this since the start of HoT. But i use Axe/WH over staff.

it is up to you whether or not you wanna play just a singular way. I play power necro and have had no issue, mesmers and thieves can cause some problems and you gotta bait out warrior CDs but usually not too difficult, Engi and DH get eaten alive by power spec….

But everyone and their mum wants to play condi and only condi, so hey, let them bash their heads into the wall instead of adapting

I can’t help but feel like one of the reason the PvP community isn’t growing as fast as it could be, is because of the complete lack of proper instructions on how PvP differs from PvE.

SO MANY TIMES I have seen players running the default build (usually zerker…wtf are you devs thinking throwing new players on zerker builds in the first place!) and just not getting into PvP because the quick time to kill and lack of tutorial are offputting to them as they are trying to learn the game.

and first and foremost you need to give new players instant and easily accessibly ways to change their build. There is NO default keybind for PvP build window, the default builds are unacceptable and most players don’t actually realize their build in PvP is different that other game modes, noone pays attention to the “hint” popups" and it leads to players just jumping into matches and getting annihilated and then quitting.

I use a power reaper build in pretty much every gamemode (can do Fractal 100 pretty easily, maybe not as super effective as viper’s) and primarily use it in PvP, not quite as effective in WvW, but works.

It looks so dumbed down and basic, just disappointing really. The extra exit is good, and if there was another way to fix the camera issues, that would be all that needed to happen

you should have gotten a couple bouncy chests in HotM that when opened, grant the title (no physical item) so there must be some bug with the bouncy chests?

Ummm there is, Idle Player means exactly what you think it means…players who are Idle/Not Moving/AFK

Great idea. Also a tutorial on rotations. Some new players I encountered didn’t even know that you need to cap points.

Even with Duke Nukem telling them to take them? I haven’t really seen many players that don’t know about capture points, but see plenty fighting in no man’s land not contributing to objective fights.

Page 2:

  • Visit the Training Grounds area.
    (Here, we will learn about the basic mechanics of the various PvP Environments.)
  • Open your PvP Build window.
    (This screen will help you build your character to fight alongside teammates in PvP matches. The Traits, Sigils and Amulet are all you need to get started in PvP. These will change as you swap between PvP and PvE areas, so be sure to open this window when you enter any PvP zone to double-check your setup.)
  • Rally an ally in the Training Grounds.
    (Keeping your allies alive is important in all game-types, but even more so in a PvP environment, so be sure to revive fallen allies to keep your team strong.)
  • Stomp an Enemy in the Training Grounds.
    (Just as important as reviving allies, defeating an enemy is also a great way to strengthen your team, and make your enemies rethink their strategy and positioning.)
  • Use a Trebuchet in the Training Grounds.
    (This secondary objective is located on the Battle of Khylo PvP map and allows you to bombard an area with heavy hitting Trebuchet shots to give your allies the edge in battle.)
  • Destroy a Trebuchet in the Training Grounds.
    (Both teams in Battle of Khylo start the match with a trebuchet ready for them, so destroying the enemies is a great way to reduce any advantage they can gain from it.)
  • Repair the broken Trebuchet in the Training Grounds.
    (Even if your Trebuchet is destroyed, or you destroy the enemy team’s Trebuchet, the Repair Kit is a tool that can make it usable again during a match.)
  • Gain a temporary buff by defeating The Chieftain or Svanir in the Training Grounds.
    (By defeating these neutral monsters on the Forest of Niflhel, you will grant your team an instant 25 points as well as a helpful buff to boost your team’s power and stats.)
  • Kill the enemy Guild Lord.
    (On the Legacy of the Foefire map, there is a powerful NPC heavily guarded in each team’s base. By defeating this NPC you will grant your team an instant 150 points.)
  • Channel and capture a neutral node in the Training Grounds.
    (Many maps in PvP require you to channel for a brief moment in order to capture an objective or buff. Such as the Orb of Ascension on Spirit Watch and various buffs on Temple of the Silent Storm.)

  • Capture a neutral capture point in any PvP match.
    (Only one player is required to capture a capture point in the Conquest mode for sPvP, and will not progress faster with more than one player on the point.)
  • Capture an enemy controlled Capture Point in any PvP match.
    (Once you or a teammate stands on an enemy controlled capture point, it will first become neutral before starting to be captured for your team.)
  • Defend a capture point your team controls for 10 seconds in any PvP match.
    (When defending a capture point in sPvP, it is a good idea to type in Team Chat to let your teammates know if you see enemies nearby or need assistance.)
  • Rally an ally in any PvP match.
    (Be careful when resurrecting an ally with enemies nearby, you will not be able to defend yourself when resurrecting.)
  • Stomp an Enemy in any PvP match.
    (Finishing an enemy in sPvP not only grants your team points, it can resurrect nearby downed allies if they also attacked the enemy you finished!)
  • Complete 1 match of sPvP
    (You now know the basics of sPvP, now get out there and fight for Glory!)
