It is 50/50 since all the current personal stories are ties to their race and choices beyond that.

But at the same time, the Rev is supposed to be something that we discover after the personal story, which makes it feel out of place to me.

I don’t know really, it will feel weird, but I highly doubt Anet would put the effort into making it feel natural.

Mob AI....Inconsistent

There seems to be a very VERY large grey area with the mob AI in GW2. Sometimes they have interesting little quips that help differentiate themselves from your everyday enemy.

Such as the wolves in Gendarran Fields, that will stop, look towards you and snarl and growl when you are in aggro range instead of instantly seeking revenge for their fallen comrades like every other mob in the game that seek nothing more than to attack on sight. Which I thought was a neat little addition when I encountered it.

Then there are some pathing issues, enemies getting confused trying to go up and down hills trying to reach their targets.

Then there are the…well….nigh on lobotomized enemies that have no idea what’s going on, that will run back and forth instead of attacking, or lose track of the world around them and aimlessly wander, some even try to disengage from you, as if they had no weapon to fight back.

What are your best and worst of GW2 AI?

GW2 was specifically designed to avoid the Trinity of Tank/Healer/DPS. If you want that you need to find another game because i highly doubt ANET will go against its core combat/philosophy.

It also had no tanks, it had body blocking….but GW1 did suffer from “LF prot/heal….2 hours later…LF prot 2go”

Warrior offhand shield burst would be interesting if:

Channel Ability: Slam your shield for 3 seconds, Taunting up to 5 nearby foes and dealing damage per second.

Stage 1: Taunt: 1 second. X damage per second.
Stage 2: Taunt: 2 seconds. Y damage per second.
Stage 3: Taunt: 3 seconds. Z damage per second.

So you have a choice to channel fully and deal damage, or cancel early for the taunt.

I hate to say it, but traditional MMOs did it right in this case.

Having unique skins and interesting PvP-aquired gear that is behind a rating hurdle, or gained from various Season rewards is actually a good idea.

The gear doesnt have to be gear, just skins, and people would be ok with it.

Think about the bronze/silver/gold cape trims from GW1, these were prestige, gained by the best teams when they became the top tier in GvG Rating, and the unique emotes gained by the top tier HoH players.

There needs to be a little more for PvP players to aspire for, when thinking about going big and trying to become the best. Glorious armor is a joke, but at least it is a step in a kinda-right direction.

The kitten hodgepodge tournies that are being held are the issue there, nothing “official”, no automated tournies, or proper ranking/season for teams to compete in proper tournament settings in-game everything is pretty much community run and noone knows it exists 1/2 the time.

There is a sale on today on Amazon UK. For 40$ CDN I can have it shipped on a CD from the UK. But it will cost just under 70$ CDN for a digital key from the US. No mention of it on Amazon Canada or any Canadian retailer.

Wait…that sounds strange, didn’t Anet say they weren’t going to have physical copies? (i may have misinterpreted)

I thought they were sticking to digital codes from here on out.

It looks like they support PayPal. You could try using that to mask your credit card if they’re actually rejecting them.

Hopefully that is the case with EBGames, and that they’ll continue negotiating.

Don’t expect to see it until after launch though, when any retailer can obtain the standard edition.

Dlgamer.us was the site I was using, but it just a sister site to the french one (which is their main site) since trying to use their customer service just took me to the french one.

They have the sale for 12% now, but still :/

In terms of revenues, we probably don’t “exist” to any extent worth worrying about in the eyes of big business. Consider in our entire country there are as many people as in the STATE of California. Sad but true. We often get shafted because we are just too small on the economic scale.

QA is one of the most thankless jobs imaginable and bug hunters burnout compounds quickly on its own and is even worse when attacked by the community when something “does slip by”.

There’s no such ting as a perfect product upon release. The absolute best way to test something is to put it to it’s intended use which isn’t possible on any type of “test” server given the dynamics involved as well as the ingenious ways players will find to break something.

Even the most obvious mistake can slip by on a tester who is tired and has been working all night in a hurry to get the content out to the players and by coming here and throwing a tantrum about it you just guarantee it will be longer til we see the next update.

Get over it.

You would think that is what it does by the tooltip, however I have tested it and it does that anyway, with the setting enabled or not. Makes no difference.

When in HotM i can immediately see a change in lighting, but not exactly what it does. It just brightens/darkens when you have post-processing on (which I usually turn off)

Rampage …? The worst elite choise for me. Do you know that you get no benefit from healing signet when you use Rampage? And you can’t use 4 of your abilities during rampage, inclouding heals.

Depending on the skills, yes you can, you can empower rampage with utilities if you know how to play warrior properly

Ya, that is understandable, but it still seems strange that they have a list of trusted retailers on their site, with a wide list of countries, but exclude Canada, and have no ties to Canadian retailers…like we don’t exist

Each retailer is subject to their own sales and terms.

For example, currently DLgamer has the base edition of Heart of Thorns on their week sale for 20% off.

But their online store refuse credit cards outside of EU (it seems, or perhaps just that item) even though it is listed as one of their main NA retailers.

Heart of Thorns shows up for me at GameStop US when I click the link on the retailers page. Same for Amazon. (EB Games is not listed as an official retailer.)

Did you put Guild Wars 2 Heart of Thorns in each retailer’s site page search bar?

I had the complete opposite feeling in the first zone beta. But that was probably because of the celestial stats, after about 20 minutes i ditched the rev, deleted and made a war.

I don’t get all the hotjoin hate? Do you all play on US? Because my hotjoin experience on EU is actually pretty good besides the occasional team-switching for dailies.

To actually have FUN in hotjoin you need to stay on a server for more than a match, because from my experience only people actually wanting to play pvp – without waiting times – stay on a server. I’ve had SO MANY good and close matches in hotjoins, even recently, through this.

And if you play ~10 matches on a server with the same 6-7 people and a few “randoms” it’s almost like playing unranked with a pick-up-group, only you don’t have to wait for aeons between matches.

The only change I’d make to hotjoin is disallowing people from switching teams after their initial team choice (besides autobalancing of course).

in NA a few things can happen that are not close games, they usually come down to blowout matches (which result in players jumping ship and emptying a server mid-way), people abuse autobalance, or people sit in spectator which forces uneven matches (4v5) because the server thinks they are active players in the server.

I have seen matches where my team would be ahead, but people lose a small skirmish or a brief triple cap happens, and all of a sudden it is down to 2 people left on my team (the mentality of “oh noes, they have all 3 caps, we auto-lose” is prevalent) even though the team is still ahead in points, and can simply recap.

I was trying to join a random hotjoin match earlier today, and came across one of the things that tends to annoy the crap out of me when attempting to Hotjoin in sPvP…So I made a video to show my displeasure for some of the systems (or lack thereof) in the current iteration of GW2 sPvP, which includes:

  • Being placed into the same match over and over multiple times in a row (I’ve had it happen up to 5 times in a row, a 400-10 blowout)
  • Joining blowout matches (there needs to be a method or mechanic that detects the % difference in score, and lowers that server’s priority at a threshold)
  • Spectator mode abuse/issues/mechanic (Spectator needs to be locked, that’s it, it is TOO EASY TO ABUSE)
  • Autobalance issues (currently it takes the last joiners into the server, or those who volunteer, without taking into account participation)

Re-plugging some of my old suggestions back in here for good measure >.>

New Buildables:
– Walls/Barricades
– Slow Traps
– Buildable Watchtowers
– Buildable Supply Depot (Allow players to deposit supply, not only withdraw)
– Ramps for high terrain/walls (fragile/low hp)

New Camp Upgrades:
– Dolyak Armor: Equip your Dolyaks with the latest and greatest in combat platemail, allowing them to engage enemies when struck and soak up more damage. (requires guard upgrade first)
– Dolyak Carrot: Increase the speed of your Dolyak, allowing it to run to its location.
– Watchtower: Upgrades the camp with a watchtower for your Guild Claimer and grants the Guild Claimer a ranged secondary weapon to defend itself.

New Garrison Upgrades:
– Golem Factory: Upgrade your Garrison with a Golem Factory add-on, allowing for automated Golem creation. Builds 1 Golem every 1 hour, max: 5 Golems. (requires Waypoint Built)
– Runic Portal: Allows portal travel to the Bloodlust Ruins (located between all 5 points) (requires Waypoint built)

New Map-wide Upgrades: (located in Citadel)
– Upgrade Sentries your world controls into small outposts, consisting of 2 Guards, 2 Archers and 1 Scout (marks nearby targets). Requires Home Borderlands Keeps and Garrison under control.

New Structures:
– Skritt Hovel (change functionality similar to claimable forces in Eternal Battlegrounds.) Fortifies the location in the NW of the map to be a new claimable location with bonuses.
– Modniir Stronghold (change functionality similar to claimable forces in Eternal Battlegrounds.) Fortifies the location in the NE of the map to be a new claimable location with bonuses.

New Structural Upgrade:
– Warhorn / Signal Fire (Players activate Warhorn / Signal Fire to debuff enemy attackers, and create a visual / audible que to show players a structure is under attack.)
– Electrified Gates (Players who strike the gate with standard attacks have damage returned.

Gate Upgrades: Reduce gate health by 25% and apply a bonus:

- Dredge Tech: gates are immune to flame blast vulnerability.
- Asuran Tech: gates deal damage back to players striking it without siege, with a 10% chance to stun on damage.
- Sylvari Tech: gates slowly regenerate health without requiring supply, but are twice as vulnerable to Flame Blast.
- Charr Tech: gates cast off metal shards when struck by siege weapons, bleeding and crippling enemies nearby.
- Human Tech: barricades are built on both inner and outer sides, limiting space near the gate entrance.
- Norn Tech: Totemic gates give nearby allies bonus might, and periodically chill enemies (1s per 10s)

Electric Fence (bit of a joke rly)

Who can use it: Electric Fense is an upgrade available to guild members of an owned Keep/Tower/Garrison with Claiming permissions.

What it does: When purchased and completed, Electric Fence will prevent all players from directly interacting with the supply depots of the claimed location. This process can be activated and deactivated by an NPC.

Players attempting to access the Supply Depot without permission will be given a quick shock, and a small amount of damage or blindness.

Why use this: This is to alleviate issues with trolls, and players who do not know build procedures within higher value structures, unintentionally (or ex Trolls, intentionally) delaying the progress of structure upgrades, or preventing them completely.

So Disappointed After The First Beta

This isn’t a true testing beta, if it was it wouldn’t be:

“Hey guys you can help us “test” the Revenant by pre-purchasing an expansion we have told you next to nothing about! and playing our new class in the upcoming beta events!"

This is guaranteed marketing, no self-respecting game developer solely focusing on testing and data feedback will lock it behind a paywall.

People are pretty much paying them to test their game for them….pure marketing (and successful to boot!)

Did you open all of your “level up rewards” boxes from the bottom right of the XP bar? every few levels they pump out hero points (once you hit 80, you will have enough for all skills/traits)

I can’t remember, since I do not have a non-80 character, do you need to open those level up popups for the rewards to be given perhaps?

Ummm.. you’re queued for ranked, with preference set to stronghold only. Stronghold is only available in unranked. So, pic says what about Stronghold exactly? xD

Well I hardly believe anyone was having fun in hotjoin except from farmers maybe.

I see this change as a real blow to sPVP actually. The folks that do HotJoin primarily are:

1. ones that just want to do their dailies quickly
2. ones that want to pop in, try new builds, pop out.
3. don’t take sPvP seriously
4. know they rage alot and can leave anytime they want…
5. Dont have much time and want to get some pvp in

Now you take the above folks and force them into unranked. One of two things will happen. These folks will join a match and either quit, afk, etc when things do not go well and they are stuck in there for awhile or they wont join at all.

Yeah, it may populate the unranked queue for a short time. But these folks played HJ for a reason, and when those reasons are not fulfilled in unranked, then they will stop queing (or become toxic)..

Personally, I liked to pop in HJ, pretty much ignore the win/loss and just kill people. I got burnt out of the unranked/ranked queues, with all the nonsensable jibber-jabber, elitism, unbalanced teams, premade crap, and time commitents. At least HJ allowed folks to leave these types of environment and still have fun in pvp..

No one is forced into unranked/ranked…NO ONE, all they have to do is open the server browser and pick one, it is exactly the same, just no instant-button

All of those things you listed are still easy enough to do.

The problem lies with the people who never took the time actually know the server browser exists, and is what hotjoin used the entire time anyways.

The main problem with stronghold

I think the main problem with Stronghold is that the first team to have a successful early game rush, gets too much of an advantage.

The first set of gates should have some extra defense (trebs, sure, but something else) to stop that initial 0 minute rush.

Ranks are meaningless.

and why there are ranks, then O_o ?

because Rank used to mean something, they had skins locked with ranks, and rank was harder to obtain, now it is meaningless and all of that was removed.

There needs to be new ways to set up difficulty in GW2, and The Marionette has started the engine on how this can be achieved.

With the way the triple lane system works for both the Marionette and the Silverwastes makes it so it is a near pseudo-instanced area where a small team can help accomplish a goal that effects the open world.

Unfortunately, it becomes difficult to manage how the players can access it. You can have all players allowed, and try to balance around scaling the enemies, or limit it to only letting a certain amount of players in and balancing around the amount of players set (unfortunately leaving some players behind)

This can be advanced slightly by allowing all players to participate AND have selective choice by having areas that players will queue to enter with their party, and with every success of the objective adds to a tally that when completed will progress to the next phase of the event.

Players who want to challenge the team-content can do so, and the solo players can participate in the standard meta-event/event setup that is currently available.

I think they should just remove leveling all together, have a mastery system for all traits/specializations/etc.

Start players with the base stats of an 80, but not have traits/etc. and rename the levels of zones to “Easy, Medium, Hard, Difficult” of how the level of zones used to be to represent the difficulty of events and completion.

Add an interesting meta event to every single zone and be done with it.

Then do the same for personal story, but let players attempt them at any difficulty they choose, same with zones….if a new players wants to try Frostgorge, they should be able to, they won’t get 1-shot by a deer but will have a much more difficult time without traits etc.

Taunt doesn't let you target

Taunt is a mechanic that causes players to only autoattackthe target, that has been stated.

It is basically: Walk towards and Autoattack the target.

So it makes sense, it isn’t a stun, or a daze, or a knockback, it is a taunt, a new mechanic.

That’s perfectly fine but why does it have to change my target to achieve that? And deny me from targeting anyone else for the time of taunt.

That is just how taunt is designed to work (in every game so far that uses it pretty much)

I do not agree that taunt should even exist, I am opposed to any skills that would take direct control of your character (fear shouldn’t exist either imo)

If they allow you to properly stunbreak (removing the impairments) and select targets freely, it wouldn’t be so bad.

This is just how Anet is building the game right now, they are moving away from innovation and well thought-out improvements and replacing that with more traditional “WoW-like” mechanics, with the addition of taunt/tanks/healing coefficients, power creep and almost ascended gear grind….who knows where we end up.

If you pay attention, the video and build a pre-patch aka, not using the new system.

But aside from that GreatBow works fine, I’ve been using it and its great, I have been running bow/gs builds since before Cleansing Ire existed and made it work fine, and it is stronger than ever now.

Thanks for sharing, gotta try that, it’s been a while since I haven’t played GS/Bow, but it was quite fun, and your video is convincing (loved that hotjoin match).

Will you be making a rifle build, too?

I personally dislike the rifle because it has so little to help you, some vuln, a volley and a knockback just don’t compare to the aoe, immob, blind, burns and damage you get from LB.

I did play a pure 6/2/0/0/6 build with rifle a long while ago using physical skills to constantly CC people and rifle them down, maybe it will work better now.

EDIT: just tested rifle again, plenty of damage, not enough utility, it still suffers.

I have been running these weapons since….forever (before Cleansing Ire even existed actually)

I was kind of worried that the build I was running would be messed up, since I used to run a 0/5/6/0/3 spread with arms/defense/discipline with certain modifiers in the arms tree.

But now after the patch, those modifiers were either merged or changed to be more easy to acquire, so all-in-all it buffed the build I was using, other than 1 minor issue with Last Stand/Cleansing Ire being on the same tree requiring the tradeoff (previously you could have both)

Build:

Strength: 3-2-1
Defense: 2-1-2
Discipline: 2-3-2

GS/Lb

Zerker/Marauder (sPvP)/Soldier’s (WvW) + Pack Runes

Air/Fire/Hydro sigils to your preference

Heal Sig/Bull’s Charge/Berserker’s Stance/Balanced Stance/Rampage

The combination of Berserker’s Power and Heightened Focus is….awesome, that is all.

Longbow F1 is in a strange spot, it will always proc cleansing ire, but it will never proc berserker’s power.

The skill activates (counts as a hit) and uses adrenaline, which is why it procs Cleansing Ire. But when it hits a foe (even directly) it will never, NEVER, proc Berserker’s Power, meaning you will never get the damage boost.

Clarification is key to understanding, perhaps you should explain better in future, no? After all your two statements contradict each other.

Not really, you simply misunderstood, the entire thread is about the quality of the cutscenes, both statements are referencing that, nothing more nothing less.

If I told someone to stop making blue cars, that wouldn’t mean “stop making cars” because the context is there.

you misunderstand, I don’t want them to stop making cutscenes, I just want them to give us an option to have better quality ones.

I tend to record these and upload them to youtube, or just watch them from NPCs in-game.

The quality is just awful, the Zephyr Sanctum one was a prime example, we have an item in game that we can use to preview this cutscene over and over, but the cutscene is garbage quality, stutters and is just a pre-recorded mess.

So far new cutscenes are following the trend. If you were in the HoT beta, you would have saw this as well with the Rytlock cutscene. Not only did the cutscene take place during the day (the demo mission was at night…wtf guys) but the quality was crap…i hope this isn’t their standard.
