Never heard of people complaining about too much PvE before DBL? Where have you been? It’s been a complaint since a week after launch. When peopole started random creatures to rally/use movement skills/stealth/etc. when in fights. And who didn’t love being randomly put into combat speed in open field when hitting one by accident.

Complaints about pve are rarely about NPC guards, especially since the desert BL launch. NPCs are clearly necessary, all players would agree with that. I just hope Tyler realises that.

This isn’t what he said though, he just said " PvE before the introduction of DBL" and also made a rather rude recall to the one Anet Dev who interupted a GvG about gamemode violation, they just seem salty, and they are spewing out nonsense to boot. The PvE comment still stands, noone would complain about guards, but PvE in general is overly high, and always has been.

They should just remove levels…the way scaling works right now, they could change a few things around and be just fine. Gain exp for traits etc, but there is no need for a 1-80, a level 80 deer shouldn’t 1 shot you regardless of your “level”

Warrior could use some help, but people think they are way way worse than they actually are. The main culprits are the overtuned classes running FotM (condi reaper, tempest, scrapper, etc.)

Look at the scrappers hammer skills for example, they added every possible role into a single weapon set and thought it would be balanced. Once the specs/classes come down a little, it will be fine.

I think most people agree that it should be an “accumulative” title, that would persist through all seasons, instead of a 1-off for each one.

Think back to the days of Guild Wars 1, where we had these types of accumulative title tracks.

I am probably missing an entire tiers worth of pips from bugged matches, if the entire matchmaking system wasn’t irritating enough, add the no pip matches on top just to troll us.

If we had an ocean of tears from how Anet has treated us with their latest PvP systems, we could walk on it with the amount of salt we can add to it from how broken it is.

So stronghold + 2 AM+ eu time?

Well, it’s pretty obvious matchmaking can’t do miracles if there is no enough people to play in the same division at this time in a gamemode not popular like conquest.

How much time for queue?

Because if queue goes more than 6min, many times matchmaking needs to extend pip range to let the game start.

Well OK. How about to split diamonds in to equal parts or at least 1 to 3 due to the group in the first team? Or is it so difficult at such an early time? All developers were sleeping?

You have to remember that people Queue together, the system will not seperate them, so if there are 3 man premades on both sides, that limits their options heavily, 4man even more so

Game Breaking downed sliding bug

When players become downed there seems to be some bug that causes their body to move and slide away from their actual location, making it impossible to stomp or melee cleave them.

I have seen it happen 3 time in the past couple hours. And it is quite game changing

I am still trying to decipher what the numbers in the grid correspond to, it seems to be X% of players with Y hr playtime, have averages of Z% winrate? So the top 50% of players with 500-1000hr have a winrate of 49.17%?

I kinda wish they would make the MMR visible somewhere, even if on the leaderboard website or something.

I made a F2P account to see what low MMR matches were like, and they were so insanely different, everyone has a different mindset, and the games play out much much different than Diamond+, maybe even high Ruby. The players just do…different thing.

You should not depend on someone to “carry” you out…if you do, then you are probably where you belong unfortunately, you need to believe you can carry yourself out and know how to carry yourself out, read your enemies movements and adapt.

This gamemode punishes a players mistakes alot, which is why every game comes down to rotational play, and teamfights. So master the rotational play early, because team fights change heavily as you climb the ladder.

In emerald, players tend to react strangely to what you do, if you play a mobile class, you can effectively pull the enemy team around like a kite because they tend to tunnel vision.

I made a non-HoT war on the FtP and got to Sapphire with 2 losses total, then got bored and went back to my Diamond Grind.

You can pull yourself out.

League Reward Structure

You know what makes non-progression based PvP games work so well? 9/10 they are fun to play. The problems facing sPvP right now:

  • The gamemode is incredibly stale
  • Power creep has ruined any semblance of balance
  • The previous progression system (rank 1-80) has been so trivialized that it isn’t even noticable anymore, and has 0 meaning.

What makes some other PvP games work? And how can GW2 improve on them?

  • Balance (the biggest, most important issue to any competetive pvp game, along side gameplay)
  • Gameplay, the combat is excellent in GW2, but with the cluster!$@# of particle effects, power creep and lackluster game modes to play tend to bring it down. It doesn’t even feel like you are playing anymore, you just mash a ton of AoE skills on point and hope for the best.
  • Cosmetics, before leagues this was slightly true, with the Glorious armor sets, but that is a single set of armor for non-hardcore PvP players to go for. GW1 had an excellent system where you could slowly unlock a wardrobe of skins from PvP using tournament points. (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/PvP_reward) The thing is…when you get the look that you WANT, the game has to be fun to play so you can enjoy it more, playing Dressup and going afk will only take you so far.
  • Side progression, classes should have some side-progression tracks you can achieve in PvP with classes, which accumulate into a grand rating (kinda like LoL champion mastery)
  • Gamemodes, multiple if possible, but at minimum one that has a clear FUN goal to achieve (Sorry Devs, 500 point borefest is NOT a fun victory condition) Stronghold has the right idea, but shoved too much PvE elements into the mix that players can abuse (ele/druid breaker/lord healing anyone?). Players should have the bare minimum actual interaction with NPCs possible. Imagine if you could heal and res/move the Nexus in LoL?
  • More maps, variety is the spice of life, but all in all, you wouldn’t need more maps if the gameplay was the primary focus, that kinda needs to get fixed first. But having some map effects that are not NPCs would make for a good start, something even akin to Wards and Bushes from various mobas.
  • Solo Q, Team Q, and Guild Q, these should be the 3 primary settings. Hotjoin is practically dead, and Spectator mode was the final nail in the coffin, so these 3 should be the new “go-to”.
  • Spectating, rework the current server browser to be a spectator browser instead, listing the current Ranked matches (diamond or above?) being played (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Observer_mode) but with a delay. Also allow players to select “Spectate match” from right-clicking friends to view their non-ranked games as well. Add a separate tab in the same window for custom servers (hotjoin/player-made) so players can still have those rooms available.

Add all sPvP maps to HotM as Islands

  • Add all the current maps to the HotM as islands, with portals in the large tower near the Tutorial portal that leads to each one. (may as well remove the Tutorial portal as well if you guys never plan on using that again….it wasn’t much of a tutorial anyways)

This allows individuals to review and learn each map, and allows teams and tutors to show people rotational routes, portal placements, etc. to teach.

These maps would have no node/point interaction, but lords, etc. would be available for DPS testing.

  • Remove the Treb, Svanir etc. from the open areas and add them to the maps (or have them in both) since items such as the Trebuchet do not train you on the distances/timing needed for Khylo at all, they are just…there.
  • Slightly alter the terrain to have an area for Dueling and skirmishing off to the side. This area would close off to players once 2 players enter the area, but allow spectators to view inside (asura forcefield)

Skyhammer Design Discussion

  • Change the point A and C nodes to have an underlying platform like point B. So if you fall through the platforms, you simply end up under the point instead of insta-death (who thought that was a good idea in PvP?)
  • Lower the Skyhammer damage, change from a knockdown to a Daze
  • Add a large area under the Skyhammer platform for players to fall into when falling from platforms (again, like Point B’s under area)
  • Have a capturable buff/console/computer underneath point B that will activate Skyhammer, the team must have control of this node in order to use the Skyhammer
  • Also add capturable buff/node/console/computer to Point A and C that causes the node to pulse stability every 5 seconds if controlled.
  • Fix jump pads so they are more reliable, perhaps require F (action button) to activate them instead of passively (may become a problem when downed players are on jump pads)
  • Energy pads can only be destroyed by sky hammer blasts.

1. Tone down Reaper, Revenant, Scrapper, Druid, Tempest (support), and Chronomancer (elites and utility), buff Dragon Hunter, Daredevil and Berserker. Balance all the classes to make them all optimal picks and more variety for builds.

2. Add more maps to conquest, death match and stronghold (mainly conquest)

3. Add a queue option for Death match (Courtyard) at least In unranked, and if courtyard is not ranked, neither should stronghold.

4. Map mechanic changes to existing maps such as making Ferocity more useful on Temple of the Silent Storm and making lord have more health and/or a downstate in Legacy of the Foefire.

5. Add more stuff to Heart of the Mists such as mystic forge and crafting stations, and making it look a lot better and/or letting us queue from outside of Heart of the Mists.

In response to point 5. ANet have said(in the recent reddit AMA) queuing out side of HoTM is not possible dew to tech limitations.

That is pure BS since it was possible for the longest time before Ranked/Unranked were added. They wer just worried people will be “in the middle of something” and prevent a ready up.

Weakness effectiveness as damage reduction

I’m not going to comment on the math, but I would like to say that weakness is fine, and moreover we need more effects like it.

To many of this game’s active defenses are just straight damage negation which leads to extremely binary combat. We need less invulns and more partial mitigation effects like weakness and protection.

We have plenty for physical damage already, even in stats with toughness/armor, boons like protection, and conditions like weakness, but not enough of these modifiers for condition damage. The only real option is either Resistance boon or removal.

I’ve been trying to go into matches with strategy and mindset from the start, but unfortunately, no matter how many times you can calmly ask people to stop going for greedy far rushes, or not to 4 man home defense with the enemy on respawn. People will do their own thing, and them complain about something.

They will complain that you were “afk on point” defending mid, or “typing for the entire match” when relaying enemy movements and asking for assistance in chat, no matter what, someone of the 10 players in the match will be “toxic” just because someone is salty, or someone is too stubborn to adapt.

I got to Ruby pretty easily, but then it all changed. Somewhere down that road, some switch was flipped.

I may not be the best player, but I can clearly see issues every match with my teammates as well.

It has at the point where I have hit a brick wall, and this is just a terrible terrible feeling overall.

I have not left tier 1 Ruby in 2 days, in fact I don’t think i’ve broke 3 pips in t1 the entire time. Win, lose, win, lose, lose, lose, lose, win, lose, lose, win.

This is all solo though, maybe I need to trio queue or something, but it just is NOT fun….addictive, but unfun, like masochism…without the fun…torture, there we go

The only way i can see the system being abused is in pre-ruby divisions. Sitting at a 0 pip tier, losing a bunch to get the 2 pip bonus, then going for win streak? So you would get 2, 1, 1, 2—-?

Seems like a waste of time…for a “guaranteed pip”

All your matches are on mesmer, you enjoy playing mesmer, cool.

How are you trying to use it though?

Casters are my least favorite class archetype but still play mesmer from time to time to stay refreshed on timing, skills and combos for when I face them.

When I play as one though, my primary focus is to portal play, using insane mobility and positioning to maintain points, bait and swap my team into places they need to be, when they need to be there.

Are you just running in, trying to use your “individual skill” to try and kill some random target at mid before you go down? Or are you trying to properly aid your team and abuse the terrain to your advantage?
