Page 1:

The most common mistake I see when helping new players, is that they have a pre-set pvp build that they don’t even know they have loaded, because the game doesn’t really tell them how anything works in the sPvP lobby, besides a few “hints” when you first enter sPvP, which isn’t enough!

Players are never directed to the training grounds either, or taught about some of the basics of sPvP…most new players I end up helping out don’t even know there is a build window or how to change it…THIS IS HUGE

~First thing is first, please give the PvP build window a default keybind! I don’t know how this has slipped the dev’s minds for so long, but for the love of balthazar, set it to a keybind for players and let them know what button it is. ~

Now that is out of the way:

All PvP reward tracks should be locked until you complete a basic “Training Track” that would involve mechanics in the training area and progress something similar to: (excluding cannons…because no current maps use them) if a player has not achieved any PvP rank (so it only triggers on new players really, but who knows, some older players may find it useful too)

Each of these will have a popup window (like hints) that would describe actions and rewards for these mechanics. (the hints/popup descriptions will be in bold, and bulletpoints will be objectives.)

Players would progress through these similar to a collection, achievement, or reward track. Listed below are the requirements for progressing through the track.

Logic behind losing or gaining rating points?

in PvP

Posted by: Zietlogik.6208

Zietlogik.6208

I have always lost more rating for a loss, than ever gained for a win. Average per win is usually 6-9, and lately per loss 15-17.

And it seems the more unfair the matchup, the more you lose? which makes no sense to me. I have had matches with leavers/afkers and people who have never finished their placement matches yet, and lost up to -19 rating for the loss…

Thanks Anet, what a wonderful system you have in place.

And the match before this? Got someone who isn’t even done placements yet, and has no idea how conquest worked….

-17 rating for that one too…

Something is seriously !$@#ed with your current match making, today has been absolutely ABHORENT for it, fully and completely.

This seems like a good call, I have literally never changed this build since season 1, so that Unholy Feast buff could prove to be much more beneficial now.

The Unholy Feast buff doesn’t apply to Spiteful Spirit. Still a very strong trait though.

That is literally what Spiteful Spirit does…casts Unholy Feast when entering shroud…

Zietlogik.6208

I can confirm it’s a solid build, although you should still give it the same +1 playstyle treatment as any other Necro build. With this in mind, I like to play it with Focus instead of Warhorn, with Strength/Fire instead of Ice on Axe/GS respectively, and Spiteful Spirit instead of Close to Death. These changes aren’t necessarily better (although I’d argue that the uptime difference between Sigil of Strength and Ice makes Strength better every time) but it’s a hell of a lot of fun to play Axe/Focus.

I think I have tried focus a few times and it is a playstyle thing, I just find the lifeforce generation of melee range Locust Swarm (+ swift) and the on demand unblockable daze/interupt to be more in-line with how I play, but I can see it being strong. I also see Chill as a defensive component, so I was looking into the most ways to constantly apply it under pressure.

There really aren’t that many DH’s once you get to gold… And the ones that are there pretty much stay in team fights, not 1v1’ing on the sides. It’ll be a lot of ele’s and dr00ds that you’ll be more dealing with in this build, and I wonder if Nothing Can Save You!/Axe 3 is enough boon removal to deal with them. Maybe spiteful spirit or the focus instead of warhorn could help?

I dunno tho, I don’t really play power ever—but I want to cuz I’m so kitten sick of playing condi for yet another season.

I am mid plat and find more matches with 2+ DH than without…who knows, maybe it is the time of day.

I wouldn’t let that build melee me. It’s good but I would just los kill it from outside his max melee.

If you are ranging on point, you are losing the point, if you are LoSing in a teamfight, someone is coming to smack you real quick, the fact that you say yourself “i wouldn’t let it melee me” is enough to know you won’t be on point for long. Axe 2 and even auto attack is nothing to laugh at either. Shouts have no LoS, and to an extent, neither does GS 5 (which can displace people more than they would ever want to be)

I tried it out today (first time in ranked pvp since HoT release). The highlights were:
1: downed a guardian (1v1) with gravedigger, he told me to “get kittened”
2: condi necro obliterated me
3: we won

Against condi necro you really have to work your blinds in and use shroud to tank some condi damage. Then when you come out you can pop shouts to transfer and cleanse, and regain alot of your lifeforce back pretty fast to rinse and repeat.

I’d strongly recommend trading Close to Death for Spiteful Spirit. Deathly Perception as Power will make it regularly crit for 2-3k, you’ll be stripping boons which is always great and proccing up to 5*Retal will give you 170-850 HP when entering Shroud with Blighter’s Boon.

I would also recommend Sigil of Strength on your Axe for even more BB goodness.

This seems like a good call, I have literally never changed this build since season 1, so that Unholy Feast buff could prove to be much more beneficial now.

knowing your matchups and how your build aids your team is the most important part of power necro in sPvP. So it depends on your build, what you want to accomplish in on the map, and know what to stay away from in the cluster-!$ of a midfight.

You are priority #1 at the start of a match because you have 0 life force, so expect to get jumped if you run into mid without a plan.

I’ve been running this build since season 1, and it has gotten me to legendary each season so far (except 4, i skipped 4) and it has only gotten buffed since then (most recently axe buffs)

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vRAQNBHhF6kZTocTsbTwdTgeTsgLYUdh2wXI+K2FDjQXtAwBA-TJRWAB6WGAyTBwxPBAA2fAA

With the amount of DH running around right now, this build is actually quite capable of taking on most DH builds 1v1 on side nodes and aid in team fights with multi-hit attacks combined with blind and aoe daze, with enough sustain to survive unless focused by 3+ constantly.

Having Locust swarm or Nightfall up on point means you will be stripping aegis and blinding attacks to help land some crucial slow casting abilities, while also benefiting from Chill uptime and Might generation which improves your sustain mid-fight. Any multi-hit attacks can proc Chilling Victory and bypass its cooldown as they count as a “single-attack/skill”

Nightfall, Locust Swarm, Death Spiral, Ghastly Claws, Death’s Charge and Soul Spiral are all instrumental on maintaining Might, removing Blind and stripping Aegis while still landing damage which leaves openings for Executioner’s Scythe and Garsping Darkness.

Wail of Doom bypasses all blocks and can be used to effectively remove Eles from any overload but Earth, Rev shield 4, Mesmer shield 4, Guardian Shelter, etc. and prevent stomps and resses when combined with stripping stability with Axe 3 or passive procs.

Even though “Nothing can save you!” is rather strong, I opted to go with instant cast shouts, because not only do they cleanse conditions from myself, they can be combined with other skills to quickly burst a target or group when needed.

Using Rune of the Trooper (soldier) gives us a tiny bit more tankiness when running Marauder’s amulet, and gives us sustain and condi cleanse combined with reaper traits.

EDIT: Now using Paladin amulet and Chilling Nova over Augury of Death.

Not the point though, matchmaking took 2 duo queues and matched against all solos is the point….i know we won

… no that’s exactly the point. They put you up against a duo that is, on average, worse than your team. Or at least their team’s average is worse. You seem to think that the MMR system is actually putting people of equal skill level against one another XD I’ll take a kitten duo over 2 competent soloQers anyday

TWO Duos, not just 2 players, 2 sets of 2 players (4 players total queued with another, in case of counting problems), which can unlevel the playing field, even if one of the groups is not so great the other can flip the cards.

  • Visit the Training Grounds area.
(Here, we will learn about the basic mechanics of the various PvP Environments.)
  • Open your PvP Build window.
(This screen will help you build your character to fight alongside teammates in PvP matches. The Traits, Sigils and Amulet are all you need to get started in PvP. These will change as you swap between PvP and PvE areas, so be sure to open this window when you enter any PvP zone to double-check your setup.)
  • Rally an ally in the Training Grounds.
(Keeping your allies alive is important in all game-types, but even more so in a PvP environment, so be sure to revive fallen allies to keep your team strong.)
  • Stomp an Enemy in the Training Grounds.
(Just as important as reviving allies, defeating an enemy is also a great way to strengthen your team, and make your enemies rethink their strategy and positioning.)
  • Use a Trebuchet in the Training Grounds.
(This secondary objective is located on the Battle of Khylo PvP map and allows you to bombard an area with heavy hitting Trebuchet shots to give your allies the edge in battle.)
  • Destroy a Trebuchet in the Training Grounds.
(Both teams in Battle of Khylo start the match with a trebuchet ready for them, so destroying the enemies is a great way to reduce any advantage they can gain from it.)
  • Repair the broken Trebuchet in the Training Grounds.
(Even if your Trebuchet is destroyed, or you destroy the enemy team’s Trebuchet, the Repair Kit is a tool that can make it usable again during a match.)
  • Gain a temporary buff by defeating The Chieftain or Svanir in the Training Grounds.
(By defeating these neutral monsters on the Forest of Niflhel, you will grant your team an instant 25 points as well as a helpful buff to boost your team’s power and stats.)
  • Kill the enemy Guild Lord.
(On the Legacy of the Foefire map, there is a powerful NPC heavily guarded in each team’s base. By defeating this NPC you will grant your team an instant 150 points.)
  • Channel and capture a neutral node in the Training Grounds.
(Many maps in PvP require you to channel for a brief moment in order to capture an objective or buff. Such as the Orb of Ascension on Spirit Watch and various buffs on Temple of the Silent Storm.)

>>This is where the Training Area stops, and the real training begins!<<

  • Capture a neutral capture point in any PvP match.
(Only one player is required to capture a capture point in the Conquest mode for sPvP, and will not progress faster with more than one player on the point.)
  • Capture an enemy controlled Capture Point in any PvP match.
(Once you or a teammate stands on an enemy controlled capture point, it will first become neutral before starting to be captured for your team.)
  • Defend a capture point your team controls for 10 seconds in any PvP match.
(When defending a capture point in sPvP, it is a good idea to type in Team Chat to let your teammates know if you see enemies nearby or need assistance.)
  • Rally an ally in any PvP match.
(Be careful when resurrecting an ally with enemies nearby, you will not be able to defend yourself when resurrecting.)
  • Stomp an Enemy in any PvP match.
(Finishing an enemy in sPvP not only grants your team points, it can resurrect nearby downed allies if they also attacked the enemy you finished!)
  • Complete 1 match of sPvP
(You now know the basics of sPvP, now get out there and fight for Glory!)

Expansion Discounts for players who buy gems?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zietlogik.6208

Zietlogik.6208

I am not really on of the players who think “I got cheated and have to pay twice for the game!” I am a regular player, who pre-ordered the game at launch, then bought the expansion.

That out of the way:

I can still see A LOT of people who think this way about the current pricing model, and feel that their in-game gem purchases, or veteran status, are pretty much “thrown away” due to them believing in a notion that they are supporting the game more by purchasing gems and the original game, then they would be if they bought expansion, and they feel “cheated” so to speak.

And this got me thinking, and made me remember a small “event” that was help a long long time ago where if players had bought X amount of gems within a certain time frame, they received a little bonus (I cannot for the life of me remember what it was though…)

So why not have a similar “Loyalty Bonus” kinda like alot of businesses have, mostly retail chains, that reward points, or benefits for purchases, as long as they do not include any in-game advantages of course.

Like if you spent X gems prior to the launch of the next expansion, you would get a 33% discount or something along those lines, or even take a % of the total spent on Gems during a time frame and apply a discount (up to a % cap) on expansion purchases that way?

Example: For every 10 dollars spent in the Gem Store, you would receive a 10% discount on the next expansion. Up to a cap of 30-50%?

That way people who buy gems, will support the company by buying gems (of course) and a little bit by buying the expansion (with incentive) Whereas people who never buy gems, will still support the company by paying the regular retail price of the expansion, with a chance at third party sales/discounts regardless.

People who buy gems don’t feel like they are being money gouged, and people who do not follow the same rules as pretty much every other game in existence with regard to expansion purchases.

As long as the expansion pricing is not ridiculous, and higher than the price of a normal full-game, everything would work out? right?

Personally (people will disagree with me) I do not feel this falls under any Pay-to-Win category either, since either way, a player is spending roughly the same amount of money for the same content, the gem purchases are just retroactively percentile based.

Just remember that there is this thing that happens in people’s brains called “Buyer’s remorse” where someone is overly stimulated and excited to get something, then after a short time regret their decision.

Personally I would not spent 250 on a legendary, even if it sounds reasonable as a “its only a few hours of work at your job” thing.

250 can buy you a new video card, or a months worth of food for yourself, or countless other things that can simply have more “meaning”

If purchasing the legendary will fill some missing void in your life, then do it, because it will have meaning to you. If you want it because it is shiny, that is a dangerous slope to continue down.

Unlike a shop in town, where you can return something, this will be pretty much permanent.

  • A Bodyguard NPC will now exist near the lord, granting all allied NPCs 50% damage reduction while alive. When killed, all allied NPCs become enraged and gain Swiftness and Fury.
  • Bringing an Essence of Ascalon to the Center Point will provide a 25% capture amount to the point in case of a stalemate (neutralized point) and a 25% decap if enemy controlled. The Essence can persist on the ground if dropped, and will be returned to the appropriate base if picked up by an enemy.
  • Center Point: This is the only point that gains Match Score. When a team’s score reaches 400, the enemy team’s gates will open and remain open for the remainder of the match. Both teams can reach 400 score and both team’s gates may be open simultaneously.
  • Side Points will be used to open enemy gates when fully captured. The point will only need to be Neutralized in order to lock a gate.
  • Waterfall: This point will provide no score for capture, but will open the nearest enemy gate (Red team Front / Blue team Side) when captured.
  • Quarry: This point will provide no score for capture, but will open the nearest enemy gate (Red team Side / Blue team Front) when captured.
  • When a match reaches time-out, the match will not end without a clear victor and “Victory or Death” will initiate. When the match timer hits 00:00 Both team’s Lord will run to the Center Point (with super speed) and the team who kills the enemy’s Lord first will be the victor.
  • During “Victory or Death” the Center point will provide Protection (Boon) to the Lord of the controlling team on arrival.
  • The Lord will ignore enemies on it’s path to the Center Point, but can still be damaged, and will engage the enemy team’s Lord on arrival.

CURRENT EVENTS suggestion

Do you mean currently active events on your map? or the Current Events for LS3?

I wouldn’t mind being able to see active events on the map at all times tbh, make it feel a bit more chaotic and give people the options to do something instead of running around trying to find something to do.

If it is about the LS3 Current Events, they are made intentionally vague to create an atmosphere among the community members to band together to solve riddles and get invested in bits of the story as it slowly slowly unfolds.

Conquest & Social Stigma - 1v1 Is The Answer?

5v5 is better than 1v1, but neither really happen in conquest, conquest is literally designed to keep your team split apart. That is what made GvG in GW1 so great, it was about the teamfighting, not having the map intentionally and mechanically require you to split your team.

Whenever you spawn or respawn when on the blue side for the Revenge of the Capricorn map, it will always face you East (off-map) facing the wall, instead of towards the gate.

As much as a “balance nightmare” they say it is, it is still 10x more balanced than this game, even more so after the HoT powercreep

Bloodstone Rubies no longer Stack

Bloodstone rubies obtained from the home instance node no longer stack with existing Blood rubies in your inventory.

EDIT: Turns out Pile of Auric Dust also obtained from home instance does not stack with existing stack.

I have no idea what the data means in ping plotter, it looks like the spikes are coming from addresses with Telia in their host name. But it seems to be resolved today…hopefully

Ping Spikes, Packet loss, Skill Delay lately

Zietlogik.6208

Just starting today I have been getting very strange lag. My ping doesn’t spike very high (150-ish) but even when the game says my ping is fine, I get rubberbanding and skill delay (.5-1sec worth)

It only happens in GW2 and has been happening all day

There never has been a time that armor and outfits could mix and match. I’m not sure why you thought it would be different in this one case.

There was a time, long long ago, when you could use the bottom portion of a costume with your own helmet, or use the helm of a costume with your own armor…

This time was called Guild Wars 1

I hear they are actually grabbing alot of features from GW2 to add to their expansion…they are just getting desperate to retain super high numbers to justify asking for a sub fee for “servers”

pvp normalization, reduced skill bloat, personal instanced gathering nodes, mob tagging, gliding, Wardrobe system, more “dynamic events”, reduced stat bloat, specialization swapping

Latest zones feel like testing grounds

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zietlogik.6208

Zietlogik.6208

Prior to HoT we had several new maps added, Dry Top, Skyhammer, Silverwastes, Desert Borderlands, etc. that all seem to almost be testing grounds for desert based maps (Crystal Desert expansion?)

This latest map, Bloodstone Fen, also feels different in the way that it seems like they are testing the waters for a Fire Island style terrain map. Very dark, gritty, floating particles (like ash/embers) with unforgiving spiky terrain. And let’s not forget the Mursaat has a stronghold there, and we are getting a few of those assets kinda tossed in as well. Jade armor/Bows and the Bloodstone aesthetics themselves.

Maybe i’m just insane, or hopeful of the release of new maps with these themes, but if I were in their shoes and needed to test the waters for these terrain types and how players interact with them, I would probably do something similar.

Is GW2 dying? Just a question, no hate

I think this thread being up to 4 pages is more evidence that GW2 isn’t dying. Games that are dying don’t have much community activity on their forums, lol.

~EW

I’ve seen threads on dead games go for pages and pages because 3-4 people just use it to argue with eachother, the amount of pages means nothing, it depends on the number of unique users contributing to the thread.
