Thing about GW1, was the community was small, and they were trying to impress people with what they could create.

Now they have so much money coming in left and right, they have become lax and more than likely don’t care much anymore about impressing their playerbase.

They built a game they want to play, and now they sit back and suffer from EA syndrome while the gem store prints money for them and NCsoft.

I would love to see multitudes of weapons and skills added for each class, new mechanics, refine old mechanics. But after 2 years, I don’t think we will see any of it.

Well if they plan on “an expansions worth of content” they better plan on adding a new race.

Oh that opens the world of argument as to what is an expansion.

An expansion that is not the size of Factions, Nightfall, or Eye of the North in Guild Wars 1 would be an utter disappointment. We have two entire continents of lore that was brought to life in Guild Wars 1, and neither of them are explored even remotely outside of vague references by very random characters.

There’s also the Far Shiverpeaks, as well as the Crystal Desert that can be explored as part of expansions. There’s way too much of the Guild Wars world to continue this “Here’s a tiny little sliver of Tyria revealed!” nonsense. If there is not an expansion in the works, including a new class or two, a new race or two, new skills, new weapon types, etc., then they will never be able to keep their player base.

The Living Story stuff is nice, but it will not continue to bring players back. There is still a diminishing player base, and the only way to solve that is to actually add something new outside of a tiny map and a few events.

The only expansion GW1 had was EotN, which was sizably smaller than both Factions and Nightfall (they were pretty much their own standalone games…with a standalone game pricetag)

Take it as you will, its not a paid expansion, which is probably what people are confusing for accumulative content patches.

Or they could just add a “burning sand” effect that kills you when standing on it.

Similar to

Sulfur mechanics
The sulfurous haze effect is applied once every 2 seconds. By knowing when the effect was previously applied, and thereafter through timing, a player can maximize their time before the sulfurous haze is applied. After getting hazed, the player has another two seconds to leave the sulfur before dying.

Mace 5 does nothing

Just like every other ranged attack, if you are not facing the target properly when using the skill, it puts it on cooldown and does nothing, if you are too close to your target, that can trigger the “not facing” factor.

Sucks when trying to fight certain melee classes as a ranger, key skills don’t go off and get put on CD.

Thanks greatsword + axe works well together indeed.

I now do now:

Signet of fury+For Great Justice->Rush(only when needed)->Arcing Slice->Hundred Blades->axe swap->Dual Strike->Whirling Axe->Cyclone axe->axe auto attack until fury is gone->GS swap

Eventually you will have enough crit chance and adrenaline gain to not even need to use Sig of Fury (extra crit when unused).

Replacing offhand axe will help you out a bit more, there is no utility, and low damage (Whirling looks like it is dealing damage…but you actually do more just with auto-attacks)

And more times than not, you shouldn’t ever use the GS burst skill, Axe burst is better in every single way (except fury, which doesn;t matter with high crit + sig of fury…and you have plenty of it from FGJ + Signet of Rage)

So more or less, replace the offhand axe, and try to not use GS burst skill. bam, you are good to go.

Autobalance moving winning to losing team!

Simplistically:

If you win = win
If you get autobalanced = win
If you volunteer = win + extra bonus

The only time you “lose” is if you are on a losing team from entering the match, without being balanced, and lose still.

Oh, so now i see. This kinda makes sense now.
If you guys don’t normally hotjoin, then what do you guys normally do to play pvp?

Yeah this is why people leave hotjoins. I hotjoin while I queue and so do many others.

I hotjoin between matches…but the game always (and I mean nearly always) starts my tourny matches (countdown end) within 400 points of the match ending…i am always trying to rush while that timer is going to try and end the game outright

I find power ranger pretty relaxing to play if anything, it brings damage, and annoyance, if you can get people to take their mind off of the point, and onto you….nothing wrong with that.

You know, you’re not really supposed to want these things to happen. You’re supposed to feel a sense of loss when it happens. After an entire season of the living story, I think it should be pretty clear at this point that nothing is sacred.

That’s a good thing really. It’s much more reflective of how things operate when “the lands are in dire peril” and whatnot.

Plus, you get to go all hot an vengeful when they blow up your favorite stuff. I was extremely involved in the LA fighting because I liked that place so much. It felt right and made me feel just a tiny bit closer to my character in that time.

Luckily, it seems that adding new zones is going to be a regular occurrence now as well, so there should be no shortage of new favorite places to discover in time as well.

Problem with this, is that normally if you don’t want something to happen…you stop it.

The living story is completely out of our hands, we have no control, we can’t stop anything, it is all planned out and we are just the puppets…that is the most disappointing part of the “living” story.

for low level PvE…it doesnt matter, in all seriousness run what you want.

Battle Standard outside of groups is pretty useless though, and I rarely ever use Sig of Might, other than that, do as you please.

If you want speed running or max efficiency for dungeons though, swap your sword for a GS, and the offhand axe for a mace, done.

That’s the thing though, the achievement seem available for the account. With other achievements that had prerequests, it didn’t matter if you got them on an alt or not.

The area achievements are account bound, story achievement are character bound. Again, kinda similar to how the Personal Story functions (per character)

The character is indeed voiced. Did you ever played your personal story ?

Warning: nerdy devspeak ahead!

The player character (PC) hasn’t had new voice recorded since the game launched, so you’ll only hear your character speak in the following circumstances: conditional chatter, in cinematic conversations in the Personal Story, and in painterly “full” cinematics. We retired cinematic conversations with the Living World, so right now the PC can only “talk” through unvoiced dialog trees.

We’re exploring some technical improvements that may allow the PC to speak under new circumstances, but it’s actually a bigger undertaking than one would imagine due to the complexity of player voice implementation (10 possible voices, currently shared lines of dialog that we want to split out, scene timing per language, etc.). That’s about all I can say at the moment.

In short, we’re looking to make the PC speak again, but it’s going to take a bit of time to redo the code and content pipelines to make it work, not to mention updating our tools to allow us to generate PC lines that deviate based on race & gender, prior accomplishments, etc. We’re not ready to announce what those changes will actually be or when they might be deployed, but we’re seriously looking into it.

Fun fact: SW:ToR had 8 classes with entirely diverging storylines and was and is still fully voiced. With the two genders that means 16 possible voices, with split lines of dialogue (usually 3 choices).

Actually, I’m not saying that you could’ve pulled off something similar as you didn’t have EA’s financial backing (although by not ditching quests for events and cutting down the ridiculous amount of ambivalent dialogue that in 90% of the cases is all about the everyday, boring lives of a zone’s denizens you would’ve had way more resources to concentrate on giving voice to the person who matters the most in an RPG: the PC… my 2 cents). However, I’m still waiting on a branching storyline where my choices matter, I have more than one line of dialogue, and which incidentally also takes my character’s personality, origin, species, and gender into consideration.

Anet doesn’t have those industry Story-Writers and an “estimated to be between $150 million and $200 million or more” to put towards development.

The unlock is character bound, not account bound. Think of it as an extension to the personal story, if you do a story mission on one character, doesn’t mean the other characters progress as well.

If it is happening with GW2 (not ONLY Dry Top) you will have a much better chance having this topic moved to the technical forum instead.

I personally have had very few issues with the zone (even FPS wise, a slight drop with particles, but nothing big)

Try checking the technically forum and see if anyone else seems to be having the issue. You can never say “it is not on my end” because even if something else works fine, doesn’t mean it’s not something being throttled by your modem/router/isp/tunnel.

If the drawing was the Realm of Torment, that’d put the Pale Tree at the center of it – which would lorewise be the Heart of Abaddon, the deepest and most central part of the Realm of Torment in which Abaddon was imprisoned for 1,000 years, and on top of that, was put in constant ultimate torment for all that time. Which would mean the Pale Tree would also be in constant pain and agony… and that doesn’t seem the case.

Was it something the gods inflicted upon Abaddon to cause eternal agony? Or is it just caused by his own frustrations and entrapment? Maybe any remnant of peace and joy that could exist to him, was being torn away by something the remaining gods cast onto him, and manifested into the tree itself when entering the realm. The tree seems to embody everything that Abaddon would have had lost, being trapped for eternity in the Realm of Torment. With the Realm being home to a wealth of knowledge from the mists would help solidify a “Dream Theory” as well… But I like to make stories up for my own amusement so…. >.>

Didn’t see that the first time going through, I hope that is true actually. The Realm of Torment was a crazy interesting place (except the zone debuffs, and annoying mobs)

and considering Abbadon was almost able to break free from the Realm of Torment, and he is the primary source of magic to Tyria…

Originally when I saw the picture in-game, I thought of the bloodstone (http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/7/72/Bloodstone.jpg) but the Realm of Torment matches up so much better.

I can’t be the only person who gets that vibe…the new story instances combined with the achievements give that same feeling of the Mission + Bonus system from Guild Wars (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Bonus#Mission_rewards)

Each story instance has its primary purpose, with a “challenge” attached to it in order to provide a secondary objective and reward (achievement in this case)

Hopefully this system keep making an appearance, it is a welcome change to story instances, giving you a reason to play them again, and better yet, play them again with friends.

I, for one, do NOT want to see this for fear that they fall into Factions-Mission-Bonus syndrome: here’s this mission, now do it in under this amount of time for a bonus! If they can manage to do prophecies-style bonuses which were often just side events, then sure; I’d welcome it.

I believe alot of people voiced this opinion during the life of Faction pre-Nightfall.

The Nightfall bonuses used the Tier system of Factions, but the objective system of GW1.

I still do prefer the Prophecies version though, it was an actual objective instead of a slight alteration of how you play the mission normally.

I agree. I think, if it’s possible, that the achievements should be hidden until you complete the content. This way, if you really, really want to grab achievements on the first run, you can google it or whatnot, but it doesn’t feel like you’re being forced to do them.

I agree, I think this is the best approach. It prevents the story from being spoiled due to the descriptor text while not requiring multiple run throughs. This is how some achievements are done on xbox and it works well.

This is how it was for Halloween achievements for the first year…and you can probably guess what happened. People freaked out, starting name calling and got overly kittened off about it.

The system in place works, and it does what it is designed to do. First run is to make sure you take in the story, second is for achievements…it does make sense.

New Zone Location Predictions

a few things to consider:

1.)Currently all races have a personal story leading to 80: That means that Anet would need to build a brand new starter zone, capital city, and leveling zones (unless they combine with nearby ones) as well as an entire 1-80 storyline if they want to keep in consistency with current Races. (in other words…this will probably never happen)

2.)Anet have said that it takes them roughly 1-year to create a single map…good luck hoping for 5.

3.)The game is currently lacking end-game content beyond Orr and Fractals (PvP is considered by many as end-game as well) meaning the complete lack of level 80 zones, and max power level zones is more than likely the next target.

GW2 involved in Chinese Monster Hoax

So, it has come to my attention that a photo shoot in China, meant to promote Guild Wars 2, ended up becoming a wide-spread hoax/rumor mill after someone dressed and disguised as an Asura had his picture taken when he went for a bathroom break.
A group of campers saw him near a stream and thought it was a fantasy monster, took pictures, and freaked out.
It was later debunked, but that is definitely one way to get some advertising! lol

Think about it, who was responsible for Lion’s Arch being destroyed? Kiel.

I’m not seeing this. Kiel was the one warning the Captain’s Council once evidence of the attack was delivered. While we were told that should Evon have been elected LA would have stood a better chance, it isn’t Kiel’s fault that LA was unprepared but the rest of the Captain’s Council.

Now who was responsible for organizing the trade agreement, only to have the cargo filled with explosives? Kiel.

Now that all the money was transferred to the Captain’s Council, she had no further need for them, so she blew up the airship, ala the Consortium ship in Southsun Cove’s LS.

She blew up a ship that had no one on board and in turn destroyed a bunch of paper contracts that kept refugees effective prisoners on an island full of hostiles.

Not exactly close to how you’re painting it.

I hope this isn’t it though….

Can I get an amen?? I mean really, I understand that the world is inhabited by Elder Dragons, and stuff happens in a chaotic world, but lets recap shall we. First we had Kessex decimated by the Tower of Nightmares, then Lions Arch by Scarlet, and now the Zephyr Sanctum, presumably by a minion or minions of Mordremoth….

Why couldn’t Season 2 launch with us discovering a new zone already destroyed or corrupted by Mordremoth, why must you destroy the most beautiful zones?

How do you know Season 2 won’t start like that?
Furthermore, if you understand that everything’s gone to hell, then you why do you ask such a question?

Because they do a terrible job reflecting this. Things happen, but it is almost as if it never happened. Kessex goes to hell, but everyone on the eastern side is like “what? no….everything is sunny!”

Lion’s Arch explodes and other areas are like “naw, everything is great!”

The problems with destroying (nice looking zones) is there is not enough linking it to the rest of the world. It just happens, and the rest of world stays exactly the same, as if the place doesn’t even exist to them.

why not take the 5 out of str, and put it into defense?

+50 heal
+50 armor
+110 power

the dodge damage can be nice, but…not reliable unless you spam dodge instead of using it well.

So to clarify the thought behind:

1. Must be able to be hot join-able

One thing we really want to do is promote and grow the player base. Now, what does that mean? When a new player (either to PvP or to the game) joins PvP for the first time they go to custom arenas to play and learn the game in a less competitive environment. We want those players to retain and work their way up to the competitive game modes: Solo or Team queue. So the meaning behind that statement is that the game mode must work for both casual and competitive environments to help grow the community.

I think a proper tutorial would convey this much better than forcing the hot-join “experience” on new players. Contrary to popular belief, just because it is easier to get into, doesn’t mean it is more enjoyable to new players. It can do the complete opposite if not made properly, having the entire experience force new players away from PvP because of: the lack of information given, unbalanced teams, no matchmaking, team swapping, the current meta, trash talk, elitism, sub-par rewards.

I think a well designed tutorial would be better than letting new players experience…that

Even something like Bot Matches, having new players que up into Tutorial matches, that have the team start with pre-defined bots on the points that the players would need to fight, capture and defend. (such as a 2 man bunker + dps bots on mid point, an MM/Warrior bot on far point, and roamer bots attacking your home point.)

Essentially, this Tutorial is actually a new game-mode in a way, and can be used by players (tutors) and devs alike to teach new players the ins-and-outs of sPvP.

There is only so much you can learn from fighting singular objectives in Heart of the Mists….and most new players don’t even know those exist. (the class bots, chieftain, lord, etc. bots off in the middle of nowhere)

tl;dr Add a bot match mode (Tutorial) with bots that exhibit basic sPvP behavior (1 home, 2/3 mid, 1/2 roamer bots) with displayed hints/tips for new players to learn.

The entire hot-join factor is terrible for anything that could possibly be competitive. It can be used, but it has to be balanced around proper teams first and foremost.

This will be a collective thread, please post what you would like to see changed, added, or removed from the current WvW supply and buildable system.

For me:

New Buildables:
– Walls/Barricades
– Slow Traps
– Buildable Watchtowers
– Buildable Supply Depot (Allow players to deposit supply, not only withdraw)
– Ramps for high terrain/walls (fragile/low hp)

New Camp Upgrades:
– Dolyak Armor: Equip your Dolyaks with the lat3est and greatest in combat platemail, allowing them to engage enemies when struck and soak up more damage. (requires guard upgrade first)
– Dolyak Carrot: Increase the speed of your Dolyak, allowing it to run to its location.
– Watchtower: Upgrades the camp with a watchtower for your Guild Claimer and grants the Guild Claimer a ranged secondary weapon to defend itself.

New Garrison Upgrades:
– Golem Factory: Upgrade your Garrison with a Golem Factory add-on, allowing for automated Golem creation. Builds 1 Golem every 1 hour, max: 5 Golems. (requires Waypoint Built)
– Runic Portal: Allows portal travel to the Bloodlust Ruins (located between all 5 points) (requires Waypoint built)

New Map-wide Upgrades: (located in Citadel)
– Upgrade Sentries your world controls into small outposts, consisting of 2 Guards, 2 Archers and 1 Scout (marks nearby targets). Requires Home Borderlands Keeps and Garrison under control.

New Structures:
– Skritt Hovel (change functionality similar to claimable forces in Eternal Battlegrounds.) Fortifies the location in the NW of the map to be a new claimable location with bonuses.
– Modniir Stronghold (change functionality similar to claimable forces in Eternal Battlegrounds.) Fortifies the location in the NE of the map to be a new claimable location with bonuses.

Well Sylvari all in all are what? 25 years old? so it would only have to be 5+ years in the past, so who knows.

Why can warriors contest points when immune?

As a baseline, anything that makes you immune to certain mechanisms without any form of counterplay to it should not count towards capture point contribution. Be it stances, ranger signets (yes i know, we need 6 points in marks to get invuln on 80 sec CD, but my point still stands), engi elixirs, stealth, camouflage (Hide in Plain Sight) or some other ridiculous function.

I’d also argue that a overall PvP “nerf” to the distance knockback, blowout, skills sends you flying is reduced to a maximum of 200 units (3/4th of a capture point diameter) to prevent people from flinging you across maps all the time.

Each of the abilities separate do have counterplay. And there is no guarantee a warrior will use all 3 utilities (or even HAVE all 3, which is a requirement)

The fact is, this is not a 1 button invulnerability. It is not equivalent to the other examples you listed. It is 3 separate skill that accumulate to roughly the same effectiveness of an invulnerability. Each with different cooldowns, each with different effects and each with their own counterplay.
