Why I'm not happy with the Halloween event

This isn’t the event. I would love to see everybody’s face who is complaining about how much they hate what they think is the halloween event right now, come halloween. B**** more now, feel like a bigger a** later.

(Note, I can understand the complaints about the black lion chest skins. That’s about real money. This is about being lazy.)

Please stop using the phrase "Pay 2 Win" if you have no idea what it means.

I must have missed the people saying that the weapon skins were pay to win. One person said that the mad king’s costume was basically a pay to win for the costume brawl. Which after seeing some people dominating costume brawls using them, I totally agree with. That is pay to win.

You’re smoking something dude. It’s harder to see the animations that let people anticipate what you are doing and counter you effectively. For a norn, this is a huge problem (pun intended). For an asura, it isn’t as big of a problem as long as there are other players around. If you cannot understand the advantage of having your animations be smaller, go watch some Sesame Street before Romney cancels it. Elmo will teach you the difference between big and small.

You’re right about the name but it isn’t about spotting you in the distance, it’s about countering you in the flurry of animations going on all around you. If you play a ranged character it won’t make much difference but for melee, Asura are superior to norn and charr, simply because they are more difficult to read when standing in a pile of characters, their various animations and graphic effects. Comprende?

The camera is lower to the ground for asura, which can make it extremely difficult to navigate jumping puzzles. Human and sylvari are actually probably the best for those.

Yeah that’s one thing GW1 did well, it made you feel important. GW2 makes you seem like just some random dude following the zerg from one random encounter to the next (not that it isn’t fun, it’s just not a great story). I think they could have struck a better balance. I do hope Anet will learn from this and focus expansions more on that epic story experience that they did so well in GW1.

I think the number one problem with elementalist is that the cooldowns are just too long to justify the weakness of the skills. All of the other professions skills are on much shorter cooldowns but the elementalist has these long kitten cooldowns and their skills aren’t any better than anybody else’s.

The problem isn’t with the players here. It is a miscommunication/misunderstanding, but it was on Anet’s side. If they hadn’t said anything about the new skins, or if they had simply said people would have “a small chance” of getting them, this whole thing could have been avoided. They built it up. Anet made the new skins a big deal. Build up creates anticipation, which leads to expectation, which leads to the dark side… er, anger when that expectation isn’t met. I really have to shake my head in dismay at this. It was a company fubar. They should have had PR in on it and if they did have their PR team in on it, they should fire them and get a new team that is competent.

Xhaiden got it right. After the expectation of these new items was built up and then not delivered upon, Anet loses future customers. Me for one. I won’t be buying any cash shop items now. Not until Anet proves that they are who they said they were and not money-grubbers trying to milk the MMO cash cow. (And by the way, I haven’t purchased anything yet. Though I had planned to tonight before finding out what Anet did.)

I'll never be able to get the new skins. It is not fair.

in Halloween Event

Posted by: Zonzai.2341

Zonzai.2341

I don’t have a problem with having a cash shop. My problem with this is that they said they weren’t like other developers. Then they pull a stunt so money-grubbing outrages that even Blizzard wouldn’t do it. That’s my problem with it. If Anet wants to add new skins to the cash shop, just sell them for cash or for gems. Don’t do this. This is the worst possible thing you could have done. Maybe if you wouldn’t have said anything about the chests and ninja inserted the weapon skins, I could have seen the ultra low chance of acquiring them as being acceptable. Then it’s a bonus. As it is now, it’s an expectation. And that’s why you have PR people Anet. Were they out to lunch when you had this meeting or what?

Staff offers decent support. It sets up good combo fields. It can be used to control the zerg with AoEs. It has uses for a bunker elementalist. It can be used to kill WvW scrubs. Nobody has ever said otherwise. I thought this was all understood and didn’t require umpteen million regurgitations. I’m shocked to see so many people think that the staff is a good DPS weapon (though I will no longer correct people on this matter because not correcting them is more advantageous to me).

@Daharahj.1325

You disagree? Okay. You’ve convinced me. I take it all back. Staff is the best elementalist weapon in the game, the zerg never eats elementalists like they weren’t even there in open field WvW and I am less likely to beat a staff elementalist than a dagger elementalist. I hope to meet you in the field.

@incisorr.9502

You like it the best, therefor it is the best. I’m not here to argue preferences. I would actually prefer it if elementalists never used daggers and always used staves. So we can at least agree that I too prefer that you use a staff.

Maybe it’s just me, but I find elementalists to be more of a chew toy than any other profession, and among elementalists, I find staff elementalists to be the chewiest of them all. Granted I do run into the occasional bunker elementalist. They’re tough but harmless.

I think this conversation is pretty much over at this point. I hope you all convince many noobs to play staff elementalists.

I have been an Anet fanboy for a long time. Sure, I’m honest enough to tell them when I think they’re wrong but I’ve trusted them to know better than I do, because they did so much to earn that trust in GW1. That is all gone now. I’m retiring my fanboy badge. This was a disgusting act of greed. I spent hundreds of dollars on GW1 but in protest to this status-quo sort of MMO greed, I will never spend a dime on any services, no extra characters, no bank slots, nothing. You’ve lost my trust.

When you become internet dictator, you can make the rules about what kind of armor Anet can or cannot make. Until then you will have to live in a modern society where we all have to compromise to give others what they want, so that we can have what we want too. That’s how social contracts work.

My complaint with you is that even though Anet has done more than any other MMO developer ever has to provide you with a wide variety of great looking, full-body concealing outfits, your complaint is that there are ANY sexy outfits at all. No matter what they do, somebody is going to kitten at them for it.

I like that bit about mocking your suspension of disbelief. There is this one door you can find with a room full of plants. You have to fight your way down there through a field of instantly respawning difficult mobs, only to open the door and find… that you can look at the plants but never enter. There is an invisible wall preventing you from picking them. And then poof everybody you just killed has respawned and you die. It’s almost as if somebody did it on purpose…

Anet has done a better job of providing a variety of concealing and revealing outfits than any other developer I have ever seen and yet all you can do is complain? I’m not a GW2 fanboy but show some respect for what the art team has tried to do by leaving nobody out and providing such great variety.

You all sound like a bunch of spoiled children. I’d say that you should be ashamed of yourselves but this is the internet, where nobody has any shame.

Stop Killing Me With Invulnerable Mobs!

in Suggestions

Posted by: Zonzai.2341

Zonzai.2341

Apparently my original thread garnered me an infraction because I used “Anet” in the title (must have missed that in the forum rules). So this is a redux. To everybody who had previously posted in the thread I apologize. I did not have the chance to rename the thread, it was just deleted. Hopefully there will not be any further problems of this nature as I do believe this is an issue that should be discussed.

ORIGINAL POST

I don’t know what you were thinking Anet. When someone trains a row of mobs into me and they suddenly heal after I’ve almost killed them all and then become invulnerable while they continue to fight me, it really makes me want to rage quit and uninstall. Stop making mobs turn invulnerable while I’m fighting them! It’s ridiculous to have them sit there and kill me while I am utterly unable to harm them. It was a terrible idea and I can’t believe that you let it get past alpha testing. Find another way to deal with kiting.

THREAD DISCUSSION

The original reason Anet included this “feature” was to prevent kiting. Frequently when underwater, when many small objects are on the ground or any other time the mob cannot find a direct path to the character they heal completely and become invulnerable despite still being able to deal damage.

It was suggested to have mobs not be able to deal damage when in this mode. One poster commented on how using the terrain to your advantage was heralded as one of the features of GW2. The majority of other posters all agreed that the mechanic was bad. A few seemed to have never encountered it.

QUESTION

Have you ever been killed by an invulnerable enemy? What can be done to prevent this from happening in the future?

Nick, you should prep Obama and Romney for their speeches tomorrow.

Elementalists are in an awful state right now. That’s just the reality of it. Once Anet fixes them, something other than a D/D elementalist will be useful. I will admit that a staff ele is useful in defense against scrubs.

Good thing you staff eles don’t play on my server though. We’re not going to stand in your AoE. Hell, we probably won’t let you get off more than one spell. Staff eles are zerg food.

Good guide.

I rarely use frenzy on my hammer warrior though. It’s not really needed against most PvE mobs and a death sentence in PvP. Also, you can bull’s charge > staggering blow into a cluster of enemies. The damage isn’t much less (on the knocked down mob) and it can really help your event score. It’s really nice if you can set up combustive shot first and then bull’s charge > staggering blow into it. If it’s a melee crowd sometimes they will come running back and then you can hit them with earthshaker or stomp. On even level non-veteran mobs they’ll all be dead very fast, especially if you are in a group. Hammer warriors have so many great ways to control a fight.

Fildydarie.1496

The problem isn’t invulnerable mobs, it is the poor detection that leads to mobs going invulnerable when they shouldn’t. If you’re trying to exploit the terrain, there are two real options. Either the mob walks out of your range and gets a bunch of friends to build a cannon with which to shoot you (my preferred solution), or they stand there invulnerable because they can’t effectively path to you. This behavior is a band-aid for all sorts of hacks and exploits and, while being a band-aid is bad, I’d rather suffer the penalty and prevent the exploits.

It’s a terrible system. What pisses me off is that the mobs sometimes turn invulnerable and then kill you on top of that. They should have fixed that before the game launched. Anet talked about not releasing the game until it was ready. Clearly they didn’t have it completely ready.
