ascended gear through karama….no thanks! players who get the ascended gear are the ones who deserve it, put in time to run fractals to get ascended gear, and getting it infused to keep on doing fractals. ascended gear is easy to get as it is already. can’t run fractals cause its hard or don’t have the time? don’t worry about ascended gear then. exotics are STILL great.
you realize that it IS coming to WvW, crafting, other dungeons, Karma vendors, etc., hate to break it to you. The only reason you are going to HAVE to run fractals is most likely for the infusion for Agony. Ascended gear is already easy to get, agreed, but most of the player base doesn’t enjoy grinding for them…in an instance.
You don’t deserve anything, btw. You earned it, but you don’t deserve it anymore than someone who prefers to WvW or do open world events…
So yesterday i could buy 1060gems for 18g, right now i’m paying 18g for 900 and it is probably going to get worse. Funny how this item has such a big impact
So what you are saying is that gem prices have gone up by over 18% and you are saving 30% off the gem price of the salvage kits in the store… not so great of a deal in the end, unless you have the gold there no need to panic buy “cheaper” salvage kits.
It’s only worth it if you are a dollar—>gem buyer…which is obviously the POINT of the sale – sales mean nothing for the gold—>gem buyer in the end unless you speculated and bought gems at a much lower price pre-sale…it just makes you think you are getting a good deal.
I suppose it also sucks gold out of the economy through the gem conversion tax for people who buy gems after the fact and can’t do math… which is good for everyone.

To set expectations accordingly, the January release will be a relatively small release that sets the table for the stories and features we plan to roll out with the Feb/March releases and beyond. Also, there will be no new race, profession, or new region with these larger Feb/March releases. One of our major goals with these releases is making our existing world as strong as possible, ensuring there are reasons to go to all the locations in the world we’ve already built, and strengthening the core game we’ve provided. In saying this will be an expansions worth of stuff in these releases, we’re talking about the number of new features that will be rolled out across PvE, WvW, and PvP in early 2013, which usually you’d only find in an expansion for a traditional MMORPG.
This sounds WONDERFUL…thank you for spending time on fixing/updating the current content before making new content!
Your response just made my day, ty Colin!
Is this a bug? .
I really hope you didn’t take the time (or spend the dollars) to make Eternity for the steps…but sounds like it could be a bug. Out of curiosity, does Eternity still have the annoying black (Twilight) and goldish white (Sunrise) swirly crap all over the place when you swing the weapon? If not, maybe one day it would actually be worth making one.
Sorry to hear that, but your guild leader got what he deserved if he was exploiting. I hope Arena Net attempts to help your guild with the transfer of leadership though, even though the guild SHOULD of had a second in command that could take over easily.
If the whole “exploiting” thing was actually “exploiting,” I’d agree with you. They never should have banned these people in the first place.
However, even if it WAS exploiting, they still shouldn’t screw over several hundred people because of the actions of ONE.
I’ve got a John Smith quote too, but I can’t find the original thread so I’m not going to post an external link
it was an exploit, deal with it
Yes, I agree as I stated above that Arena Net should help affected guild(s) transfer ownership after logs show that the offending guild master didn’t transfer ill gotten gains or materials to the guild stash, of course.

No, the punishment was not harsh. I’m so glad people got perma-banned this time – I guarantee you a lot of the same people who have exploited other things in this game exploited this as well (orichalcum realm xfer exploit, karma weapon exploit, etc.) Arena Net needs to take a hard stance with exploiters so people think twice about doing something that obviously was not intended.
And I know at least one guy who didn’t exploit other things except this but not even to the extent which I think Gaile was talking about, but still suffered the same consequences, but sure, let’s punish all people with a very small tolerant level. Profit a million, death penalty—-profit a hundred, death penalty. Seems fair. (sarcasm)
I didn’t say all – exploiting is exploiting.

Do you REALLY think that someone out there is spending that much on a legendary weapon? I highly doubt it. And if there is someone spending that much on a legendary, I feel bad for him.
People already have…people spend thousands of $$$ in the RMAH in D3, $2500 to save 100’s and 100’s of hours of their free time is nothing to more people than you think.
ANet has officially stated that Legendary stats will be bumped to Ascended when Ascended weapons are introduced.
The entire purpose of pursuing a Legendary weapon is to obtain something that cannot be obtained through anything else but hard work and due diligence.
Legendary weapons can be purchased off of the TP…Gold can be purchased with gems which can be purchased with real $$$. Legendary weapons are no longer the product of hard work and due diligence, just who has money.
Simple Solution
Allow only MF buffs to work in dungeons (MF Booster, MF food, MF banner, MF guild perk)
The effects of MF on weapons/gear/runes would be disabled – MF gear and runes would then only be used for open world farming

The level of entitlement in this thread is staggering.
Why must everything have a super awesome reward attached to it? What happened to playing games for fun?
Fun? You actually had fun doing your personal story? After around level 48 or so it’s nothing but endless waves of RISEN every mission along with the super boring, super full of himself Traherne there with you every step of the way. Oh, and then you get to watch an airship kill Zhaitan (for which you need a GROUP of 5 people in your personal story…), probably the worst conclusion to a big end boss in any game I can remember in my MMO history.
Why do you have to defend this game to the death with no valid point relevant to the OP? Anyway, there isn’t any endgame content. You can do dungeons and world completion but that’s about it and there’s not much reward.
Seconded…we were promised awesome open world DE’s with individual, worthwhile rewards to match with little to no grind…instead, we have horrible, boring, frustrating end game zones with little to no rewards and a huge dungeon grind as the focus for the best loot/rewards – the complete opposite of what many people were led to believe.
I’m currently (well, for the last 6-8 weeks already) been in a holding pattern with the game until something is done about all of the issues (or not done, in which case I will continue to not play much, if at all.)
They’re also used to craft runes like Superior Rune of the Scholar. They need to increase the drop rate significantly or put in different ways to acquire them like someone suggested dungeon tokens.
Lodestones for Karma, not dungeon tokens…or both. There is nothing to do with Karma, perfect use.
Agree with account bound on acquire
I totally agree, it is suppose to be account bound and not be able to sell.
It is suppose to be something special and not just buy… I hope this doesn’t become one of those PtW games….It’s not pay to win because there’s nothing you can buy that’s better than what you’d get by playing the game.
So, they should just put dungeon armor in the gem shop because I can earn that in the game? Please think about what you just said…
Spending 5 minutes on converting gems—>gold is apparently the same as spending 1000 hours in game to actually earn something
Legendaries, like 99% of everything in this game, have no value because they can be bought with real money
I didn’t say they should put dungeon armor in the gem shop, so shut up about that.
I didn’t say that spending 5 minutes on converting gems to gold is the same as 1000 hrs in game, so shut up about that.
All I said is it’s not pay to win because you can’t buy anything better than what’s easily obtained in game. A legendary weapon is just fancy looking, not in any way better statistically.
The way GW2 is set up, if it’s something that involves the economy, you have several ways to get it, one of which is spend gold. Legendaries are almost all about TP.
I think the issue here is Arena Net is getting around the whole P2W issue because all the stats are the same as a normal exotic (until ascended weapons come out…). In other MMO’s, being more powerful (and sometimes cooler looking gear) than the other guy is a way to stand out and show that you put some work into your character. In GW2, having the super rare, cool looking armor or weapons (i.e. Legendaries) are the way to stand out and show that you put some work into your character…except you can just buy that look with real money – so in essence, it IS pay2win within the GW2 universe. The sooner people realize what is actually going on here, the better.

Tell me any MMO which doesn’t require “grind”?
Tell me any MMO without the holy Trinity?
Tell me any MMO without quests?
And so on, and so on. The worst thing about MMOs are the MMO players themselves, who are stuck on the same old, same old.
There are no MMO’s without grind, but plenty where the grind is a lot more entertaining than do the same 4 events over and over again in a loop for little to no rewards.
I’m not sure death zerging is more engaging than having the “holy trinity”
Hearts ARE quests that have multiple ways to complete and do not require you to talk to a quest giver… nothing revolutionary to see here just smoke and mirrors.
Oh, I’m sure they drop – probably have a .000001% chance to drop just like the Black Lion Keys, so maybe 100 will drop for the entire playerbase over the course of Wintersday. Technically, they drop (so Anet is clear of false advertising)…though most likely none of use will ever see one.
100% agree
I would love either hero/henchmen OR scale-able dungeons from 1 to 5.
Yes, I know it’s an MMO…I’m not saying remove groups – give people options on how THEY like to play.
On the specific subject of Tixx mini pets…
GW2 is B2P – you don’t pay Anet $15 a month. They allow you to make ANY 2 of the 5 mini’s…and if you REALLY REALLY just have to have all 5, then you can purchase the other 3 and thye cost less than $5 each. I have zero problems with this as Anet has to make money somehow. If we were all paying $15/mo, I would expect to be able to obtain all 5 mini’s in game for free.
On the flipside, MAYBE one day Arena Net (and other companies) will realize that the majority of their playerbase HATES RNG when it comes to real money. The four random mini’s in the Wintersday boxes is beyond stupid, just like the Halloween skins were. There are plenty of people that would pay $5-15 each, straight up, if they had the option. Instead, these companies end up making people mad when they spend $100’s trying their luck. Leave the RNG to IN GAME activities, not things that involve real money. It is just going to slowly eat away any and all goodwill people have for these companies.
Anet, we promise, you will make plenty of money without the RNG – fight off the suits at NcSoft that have zero business sense, apparently. I enter a car dealership but instead of buying one of three cars of my choice, I have to pick one of 4 doors for $30,000. I can get one of the three cars, or a pile of scrap metal. I pony up $30,000 and get… a pile of scrap metal. What are the odds I am going to go back to that dealership? Zero
Just note, I have never bought keys or boxes in any game and never will – if there is something I like (skin, pet, mount) that I can just buy, I buy it.
Maybe this is just a poor attempt at keeping things rare? Holiday stuff should not be rare, things that take a lot of effort to obtain in game should be rare.
(edited by azurrei.5691)
from MMORPG.com regarding Wintersday Patch: “There are a whopping 275 new crafting recipes, not all of which are themed around the holiday (though many are).”
Will we see crafted ascended items? Will we see the WvW and Karma Vendors get ascended items too?
Guess we find out tomorrow!
We need account bound lodestones availble for 5k Karma each…PLEASE.
Gems will come down after the holiday event. Keep an eye on http://www.gw2spidy.com/gem and you’ll know when to buy.
agreed, it will drop at the end of the event for sure
Having said that, the rise in price has been caused by inflation due to botters – it took Anet way too long to shut them down (but they did a good job in the end), but it was too late – damage done and too many people love to buy gold from gold sellers = accelerated inflation
As usual, the honest players get screwed over… inflation + lower drop rates (to slow down new botters)
First off, let me say that I really do not like jumping puzzles…at all. However, the Wintersday jumping puzzle from the video preview looks AMAZING and I might actually have to spend some time on it
On Crystal Desert, for the last few days, we have had horrible lag spikes (like 2-6 second lag spikes sometimes only a minute apart) and mass DC’s in Cursed Shore (and only Cursed Shore, Malchor’s is fine for instance,) especially when the Arah event chain is going on…any info on when this is going to be fixed/addressed?
Rather than exotic or ascended statted, I think the cultural armors (t3 especially) should be pure skin items. No stats, 1 free transmute with a suitable item of your choice.
Edit: Their level requirements could also then be removed.
lvl requirements? you can give 120g to a lvl 2 and buy T3 to transmute it onto lvl 1 armor if you want to… or a new player could buy a bunch of gems with real $$ and convert to gold and wear T3 from lvl 2 – so prestigious!
Have you tried Skyrim?
Jokes aside, you’re asking for solo content in a massively multiplayer online game.
massively multiplayer does not mean PvP (though it can)
massively multiplayer does not mean group play (though it can)
massively multiplayer simply means many people in the same game space
I agree OP, I’d love solo, duo, trio etc. content – if all the dungeons scaled that would be sweet indeed. Farming for karma gets old…especially considering it is really not used for much of anything fun.
While I will not argue it should be included in the projected profit, how hard is it to take the projected profit and subtract the listing fee – which IS listed right below the projected profit – in your head?
Maybe that is asking too much from players?
Exotic would be nice, available for Karma would be even better.
Cultural vendor in your home city.
Yep just checked it out, looks like you can get the crude (28 karma) and fine (252 karma) kits from the cultural weapon vendors in home cities
Location? npc?
Does anyone know where I can buy Salvage Kit that cost Karma? most the one in racial town cost 15 silver, which is too much in my opinion
Master Weaponsmith’s used to sell the Master Kit’s for Karma – this was “fixed” a while back. I think the basic kits are the best kits you can buy with Karma, though I am not 100% sure other than no vendors sell the Master Kit’s.
(edited by azurrei.5691)
You all forgot the Black Lion Trading post being fully stocked with Wintersday items!
- Unidentified holiday red dye
- Unidentified holiday green dye
- Unidentified holiday dye pack
- Two costumes that will take up twelve spaces in bank storage
- Toymakers chest with candy, snowballs, tonics, a chance for a holiday hat and gloves, rare weapons skins and minis (weapon skins < 5% chance, minis < 1% chance)/smh
I hope I’m wrong about all of that.
God forbid a company try to make money off a product they aren’t charging you a monthly fee for and continue to release FREE CONTENT FOR.
Those sons of kittenes.
God forbid a company try’s to make money off a product they aren’t charging you a monthly fee for by offering skins/minis/etc for a straight up gem cost, instead of subject to gambling RNG.
An “easy” solution would be to just send every account in good standing a ring/bag – they have little vendor value and can not be traded or salvaged.
Of course, there will still be the people who whine that they didn’t get the rares or exotics…
I’m willing to bet because of this incident the rewards will never again be as good…sad, really.
I like the idea of there being a DE that results in the downing of the champ karka, with perhaps a chest for the champ karka as well. There could be a gate/wall protecting the rich ori treasure that is only open for a small time window once the champ is down. That would at least get some interested in grouping to ‘move the chains’.
As it stands now, there is zero incentive to take the champ karka down. The only people who go for the ori are the ones who can avoid it.. and it sure must be nice to be able to tank with a ranger pet….
So yeah, putting a champ karka down was a good step 1. But there seems to be a lot of room for improvement here to make southsun fun / worth going to
I usually don’t even bother because their is never anyone around to help – however, the few times I did go grab it on my warrior – I would pop my immunity and start picking, healing when I could and when I went down… pop vengeance and pick the rest before I died
My guess is market manipulators: check spidy the supply completely dropped off over the course of a day. My guess is somebody bought up a bunch of supply to push the price higher (i.e. create an artificial scarcity)
Definitely possible – with all the teleport hack node botters now, it could be a large gold seller buying up supply to push prices higher
someone trying to corner the market – not going to work so well
looks like someone bought most of all the supply about 2 hours ago
Just say no to buying it and they will lose a bunch of gold
Mobs in Orr have always had a large aggro radius – although the Risen Acolytes are a little bit ridiculous – probably have double the range of any other mob.
Side topic – has anyone noticed a significant increase in the number of Risen Squires? Those mobs are almost more obnoxious that the Risen Farmer’s… charge and shield bash stun is getting old, fast.
knight’s jewelry is toughness, not vitality. currently, there are no items in the game with this combination of stats (outside of things like the triforge pendant, which includes those stats and more)
just about any class outside warrior/necro would be very interested in this stat combo…lol
Considering that you get decreased rewards (vs high level content) yet have full lvl 80 repair bills and travel costs, I have no issues feeling “OP” at times in low levels.
Now I’ve seen these teleporting bots in various zones..but people need to be careful and think about what they actually witnessed. If the character appears out of nowhere, instantly gathers a node with little to no animation, and then disappears – it is a bot. However, there are people who camp an alt by a node – log in from time to time – gather the node and then instantly log out. The length of time they are actually seen at the node would be much greater than a teleport hack bot, though.
Just something to keep in mind.
I’m still laughing from the title… and agreed, Orr is one of the most anti-fun zones in any game I’ve ever played. It needs a redesign – way less annoying, more rewarding.
I’ve tried my hand at crafting exotic weapons with my weaponcrafting 400 and I seem to have found a bug… or a limitation I was unaware of.
I Recently crafted a Valkyrie Pearl Carver. I wanted to post it on the BLTC, but first, to make mine stand out I put a minor rune on it, so mine is now a Valkyrie Pearl Carver of Blood. It still says “Soulbound on Use”, but I can’t post it on the trading post, and I can’t send it via mail.
What is wrong? What can I do?
You put a Sigil on the weapon – doing so causes it to become soulbound.
I agree with the idea of making it cost Karma.
Karma has far too few uses right now.
Agreed, give us options.
For the impatient/TP flipper’s, allow them to continue spending 120g.
For the casuals/people who actually play the game, give them the option of purchasing the gear with karma – make each piece 63k like the T3 cultural weapons.
So, it appears on Crystal Desert, that Malchor’s Leap was reset…and ONLY Malchor’s Leap. I guess Anet is testing single map resets instead of full server resets? Good for bugged events, bad for gatherers!!!!
Overall, this is a good thing though
Man loves to see people get the same deal as he paid for.
In the interest of ‘fairness’ and all that.Human nature.
I wish you to suffer the same fate as I did.
This is why ascended backpack crafting materials ‘considered too grindy’ during the reddit AMA session – is still yet to be downgraded. They can’t risk the early adopter’s rage. We, who prefer to play the waiting game, won’t see a change . Not so soon.
True – except you know what you tell those people?
You paid a premium to have it first and use it longer – prices change, too bad.
Please remove everything and just give me the reward since I don’t like doing anything.
On a more serious note, just because the monthly has you do some things doesn’t mean that’s all that you have to do. Completing 7 fractals is very easy and there’s plenty of time to do things the rest of the month.
Yep, fractals are easy – doesn’t mean I want to do 7 of them – and neither do friends who hate dungeons.
What are you on about with the monthly not rewarding players doing a variety of things? Only 1/4 of the monthly objectives is fractal runs, the others are WvW kills and things related to seasonal events or content patches.
why is it necessary to have the monthly achievement reward and encourage fractals? There is a big incentive to do fractals already, it’s not necessary to encourage funneling players into only one aspect of the game.
Frequent Fractals was in the November monthly achievement.
People that bought the game like to do different things in the game and GW2 has a tremendous amount of things to do besides sitting in Lion’s Arch spamming for a fractal run.
agreed
Make the monthly achievement a “pick 3” if you are going to force people into running dungeons. WvW is merely open world PvE where people are flagged – dungeons/fractals are completely different and REQUIRE a group.
The amount you get for completing a daily is pretty standard and consistent – 5s @ 80 for example. However, IF you get an extra reward beyond the Jug and Coin, such as a repair canister for instance, the amount of silver you receive is greater than the standard amount (so, more than 5s @ 80.)
It doesn’t matter if Anet increases the amount of gold you make,
Because people who control the TP will just raise the prices of items to fit the raise in gold.
Just like in the real economy.
Ok, so the solution then is to remove or significantly reduce gold drops from Dungeon bosses/chests? because if they are going to make it not worthwhile to do things out in the world then it should be not worthwhile in dungeons, too by that logic
After all, you run dungeons for the chance at rare drops and the tokens to buy from gear from vendors, right – not for the gold because its the best way outside TP flipping to earn it?
