I hope everyone here realizes you can craft Ascended back pieces in the Mystic Forge. It requires a stack of a T6 material, 50 ectos (ridiculously easy to get if you do EoTM train/world boss runs and salvage Rares), 250 bloodstone dust (everyone has about 1million at this point), and either philosopher stones/obsidian shards (can purchase with skillpoints). The T6 material is the hardest part but that’s farmable, plus you can use laurels or save up money and buy them.
You don’t need FoTM items at all.
Now, the Mawdrey II backpiece requires much more work. But that’s because it is a unique skin. I realize you guys don’t like having to go out of your way to get something, but it seems many are up in arms like Ascended backpieces are extremely hard to get. They aren’t….you don’t ever have to step into FoTM and you can still get an ascended backpiece…
If you want a super unique backpiece like Mawdrey with a fancy ability, then you gotta put in some EFFORT.
Did they change the Vial of Condensed Mists Essence to Bloodstone Dust? Or are you just confused?
Anyways, the fact that they make you do fractals for this Living Story back is ridiculous – did we have to do Fractals to get Light of Dwayna? Chaos of Lyssa? nope… so there is precedent for Ascended backs completely outside of Fractals. It is a Living Story scavenger hunt that takes us all over Tyria…and then you get to the end and they just toss in “Go do five fractals…because…reasons.” Pretty much ruined the entire experience…it was fun up until that point.
I need to find this on sale not on Steam…been thinking about screwing around with it but I have 0 Steam games and really don’t want to have the client on my system.
I buy gem buying habits is similar but it’s difficult to time local minimum without constantly watching the exchange rate. And with the rate listed on GW2Spidy being wrong for nearly a month the other external source is gw2tp which only updates hourly.
I took a page out of 401K retirement by doing cost averaging, sort of. I use 1% of my bank every day and convert into gems. Also Mondays and Thursdays I convert 5% instead of 1%, in the off chance some highly desired item gets posted the next day and the ensuing rush to buy gems cranks the exchange rate up.
Yes that means I convert 15% of my bank weekly into gems. Roughly 65% a month yet the actual amount in my bank is still going up week to week, month to month.
Clever idea. I’m going to steal it and suggest it to my guildies. (with attribution, of course) Have an upvote.
agreed – good idea. I have done something similar just not that regular of buying
Monday should prove interesting – we have some limited time items expiring (although they have been available for weeks now) vs gems to gold conversion for the last minute rush on commander tags…I think commander tags will win and gem prices will remain relatively flat through the big patch Tues. I could be wrong, but it is always entertaining to watch
God I love the b2p model.
I’m still slightly disappointed about the amount of content being pushed out by ANet – but I feel that is partly my bias as not only a consumer but also another working citizen. Knowing that if I did my job at such a slow rate, I would get fired…and yet ANet’s worked slower than I would have ever thought convenient for almost a year now.
But yeah, B2P is awesome. I have a hard time enjoying WoW because I like to go out with friends, drink, watch movies, go on vacation during the summer and overall when all is said and done I’m maybe only playing 15 hours per month which makes that $15/month subscription utterly ridiculous. I don’t know enough about Archeage – but any game that sets me back behind a p2w wall or a subscription fee is a bad game in my book.
First let me say that I see nothing wrong with the B2P model (overall I enjoy it)…well, other than the game design bias towards gems—>gold conversion. However, how is $1/hour “utterly ridiculous?” I bet you spend 2-3x a monthly subscription amount in 1 night out with friends…heck, a one month subscription is like 2-3 beers at a bar… I think you need to reevaluate your cost/benefit analysis and put things in perspective. Both models work fine – there are times I wish GW2 was a subscription game as I prefer that model.
Well if you think youre getting its worth then good for you! Hahaha
Majority of us still thinks its a rip off though. You get 250/stack which will last you for a week (im farming cs 6hours a day only) and can always get 2-5 mystic stones per week on world bosses. So 10copper / rare salvage vs 1 silver / rare salvage ;D
Yep silver fed is super worth it
i dont need 90coppers anyway
I can’t recall ever getting mystic stones from world bosses and I do a LOT of them – I have gotten it from the daily maybe twice, ever?
Do you realize the ridiculously small % of the player base that farms keys regularly? vs buying keys? Trust me, if key farming was truly an issue Anet would of done something about it a very long time ago.
Please provide your data.
Who needs data – do you see dozens and dozens of people running around the same “path” in queensdale 24/7? are you always in a different instance every time you zone in and out of Queensdale because there are so many people farming creating dozens of instances? Like I said, if it was a problem they could of done something about it very easily long ago.
Honestly I feel that BLTC keys need to become less prevalent as an in-game reward. I think keyfarming has done serious damage to its ability to offer consistent rewards.
Consider the following:
Story missions nerfed. Keys now granted at 31, 50 and 80.
Keys will now always provide a scrap, with a modest (10-20%) chance for a full ticket.
3 random item slots.
1 random booster slot.Do you realize the ridiculously small % of the player base that farms keys regularly? vs buying keys? Trust me, if key farming was truly an issue Anet would of done something about it a very long time ago.
if they changed it in a few days, they probably think it is doing some damage.
I’m hoping the reason they potentially change it is that they have finally come up with more fun ways to earn keys… and you realize that the change could be simply a bi-product of the change in personal story design, not because of key farming.

No way they would ever implement something like that…if they did, please make it 5k karma for a key too so I can buy 1000 keys! Yep, never going to happen.
There is nothing wrong with the key farm – if people want to spend their game time doing key runs…let them? In any event, let’s say things do change and key runs are no longer feasible. The sensible thing would be to NOT lower key prices in the gem store. The smart thing to do would be to provide an alternative way of obtaining a limited number of keys in game so that there is an alternative to just further inflating gem prices. I’d prefer some sort of resource trading, perhaps capped on a weekly/monthly basis…but would accept getting a key for a few laurels since that is one of the few limiting currencies. They could also increase world drop rates back to launch rates and/or increase the likelihood (or add the ability) of obtaining them from world boss chests/map completion/daily rewards, etc.
so if I buy a commander tag now for 100g to get a blue one, will I get to choose a new color after the patch or will it still be blue?
I would assume so as it states you are grandfathered into the new system.
That would be very nice. But I doubt they’ll do it, simply for the fact that it would make an easy work around for their silly “1 Pristine Relic a day from each tier” rule.
Well they could easily add another time-gated recipe for example in Jeweler profession.
Not a bad idea… I really wish they would put the Mist Stone on the laurel and/or guild vendor for something reasonable, like 10-15 laurels + some gold … really don’t like being forced to do non relevant group content to finish a LS item.
I love the idea, since i often tend to find one piece that i want for a lot of armor sets and paying 800 gems for pants is very unplesant for me… but i think the price should be more around 200 gems for each piece if this now will be implemented. If the price is 200 gems people will only buy the individual pieces if they say want 1 or 2 or 3 parts.
If its 200 gems then its more clear that its not ment for those who want the whole set (i think it should not be ment for those who want the whole set), i mean 150 seems a kitteneap since id be glad to pay 400 for one piece a lot of the time because i find the rest of the set ugly.
Also have in mind that you could set out different prices for different pieces.
Would love if this topic got more active discussion so Arenanet puts this in concideration!
Yeah, pieces should range from 250-400 each, 700-800 for a set. The fact that outfits are now account wide makes it not as much of a big deal to have to buy a full set, though.
Black Lion Keys are being removed, after the patch each BLC will open without a key.
I highly doubt that, it would be like voluntarily removing a major source of income from the game.
Always a possibility… no not really :p If that did happen for one reason or another, you can be 100% guaranteed the old chests would be vendor fodder and they would create new chests that dropped.
Up the price to ~1000-1500 gems, make it an unlimited use BLSK, and charge 3-5s per use and you would have my attention
You want level down to be more harsh? cool – you can have that when they give us an option to stay 80 in any zone and get loot but no XP. It is already bad enough you get leveled down in dungeons – it should all be level 80 in scale. Feeling weaker outside of level 80 zones is not fun…
I’m curious to the personal story stuff…I get that it “doesn’t affect existing 80’s”…but what if you have not done the personal story? Or only part of it? I’m assuming any parts of it you have not done will reward the new rewards, correct? Heck, technically I never finished it even on one character – I helped some friends kill Ziatan before I was on that step of the personal story…and never bothered to go back and finish it after the disappointment (of that fight.)
It’s expensive, but with the new transmutation system (account wide unlock) I don’t see it as an issue.
I’m going to assume for level 80’s, this ONLY APPLIES TO EXOTIC/ASCENDED? It makes no sense to apply to white/blue/green/rare items – MAYBE rare+, but that is it.
It does indeed – I have bought charges (ok, the old crystals or whatever they were called) on discount before and this is definitely NOT the way the discount was calculated. Please fix Anet, I need to gift some charges to my second account

ive seen this in reddit
I’m guessing these will be future non-birthday rewards for holidays/events/achievements…OR Experience Scroll (Level 20) will be used in soon to be enabled mystic forge recipes.
but did bank slots ever see a higher discount than 20%? not sure about that
I’m 99% sure they have never been more than 20% off – and this is only the second or third time they have been on sale since launch. It’s too bad bag slots are such a rip off or I’d buy a bunch – they should cost 50-100% more and be account wide unlocks.
The gold to gem rate on the exchange is not a measure of inflation. If you consider how the exchange works and interacts with players you’ll realize that it’s a great measure of only one thing…
It is true – it is simply demand for gems vs demand for gold (aka supply of gold vs supply of gems,) which IS controlled by players…BUT Arena Net has control of the direction (new gem store items vs new in game items/reasons for the need for gold in game.)
(edited by azurrei.5691)
About $40 over the last year…$100’s of dollars worth of gold to gems, though.
Unfortunately this has a negative side effect………detouring new players. There is one thing that any mmo needs and that is a constant influx of new players. Anything that detracts from such (imo) is not a good thing.
It might deter players that would normally spend gold on gems, not players that would spend $$ on gems – working as intended.
In any event, the only thing that personally interests me in the store atm is the new medium armor set – ill prob grab 2 of those when they are hopefully on sale at Christmas just for use of the s—- skirts for my thieves. All gems bought with gold, of course. (@30-36g/800 1-2 months ago)

“Finishing” in PvE serves absolutely no purpose other than to be extremely annoying (and maybe sell more finishers in the gem store…) It needs to be removed – I hate it with a passion.
Scaling instances would be my preference – choice is always a plus.
I really wish that all of the story mode dungeons were scale-able from 1-5 players and awarded a fraction of that dungeon’s tokens once per day for completion (say, 10-15) That way someone who does not enjoy grouping or doesn’t have the time to commit to exploration mode dungeons can slowly work on dungeon armor.
Please Please Please do not RNG this, I will pay 1500gems for it even just don’t hide it from me lol
Or how about, you know, put it in the game to be acquired by playing instead of just paying straight gold/gems or even worse, gold/gems for RNG.
Yeah staff looks good…for my elementalist I guess? Who uses staff on a Mesmer? Pretty sure I don’t even have the staff skills unlocked on mine.
It would be nice if they added new FULL ARMOR SETS to the game that were NOT from the gem store – ZERO new sets since launch (all gem store.)
The female heavy chest looks awesome – finally another good chest for female heavy users (but I don’t need it – my warrior is male.) Out of curiousity, for the people complaining about revealing, “unprotective” heavy armor for females – do you at least play a Norn? or larger, more muscular human female? Because “bad @#$” full coverage heavy armor on one of the tens of thousands of the scrawny human (or even Sylvari) female warriors running around is just silly.
That’s a horrible stereotype and you should be ashamed of it. The Human T3 heavy armor is full coverage and there are plenty of woman in real life who can wear armor like it. I’m not talking runway models, I’m referring to women, like those in Tyria, who commit themselves to train for combat. Go to a Ren Faire and you’ll find average looking woman wearing heavy armor like the men and are just fine with it.
/joanofarc
Stereotype? Hardly – if you are going for “realism” the scrawny human females running around could NOT support the weight of that armor. Remember, I said the scrawny characters that players make, not NPC’s – well at least I was referring to player made characters.
I agree 100%. I just logged off. WTF ANET!
You guys had a massive opportunity to make a really really cool dungeon that could even be the elite dungeon everyone wanted but instead you made it the same as every other bloody LS since release. ZERG FOR ACHIEVE and a glowey reskin weapon. This is beyond bad. I had sooo hoped that you would listen to the community and give us something new and exciting but instead we get the same zergy boring crap over and over.
An “Elite dungeon” full of bosses with two abilities (one being a one shot,) gobs of health, and a bunch of blues and greens for loot? Sounds awesome, too bad we didn’t get (another) one of those instead… I don’t mind all the large group, open world content we get – feels more epic than doing scripted events with 4 other people.

Female characters should be able to choose between the male and female versions of each armor set.
Actually, let male characters do that, too.
If you are going to continue providing wildly different styles and levels of design quality between the genders, at least let us choose which we wear. The female heavy armor set does not even equate at all to the male set.
I understand the frustration that people have with the heavy armor, but in a fantasy game I prefer my female toons to look “fancy.” In fact that top might make me create a new female warrior as mine is male (my warriors are always male…) and my female guardian already has her awesome T3 Norn top/pants.
Side note: I was originally going to make a human female warrior, but I actually decided against it as a protest against the stupid change they made to the female Orrian top from the Arah set during beta. If you were in beta, you know what they did – they leave in the revealing light and medium chests but changed the one revealing plate chest – I was very upset (still am…)
(edited by azurrei.5691)
There is significantly MORE heavy armor that is NOT skimpy then skimpy for females – so I hate to break it to you but arguing that there is an imbalance is arguing for more skimpy heavy armor to be made available- which I am not against There is plenty of realistic heavy, covering armor in the game – just because you may not prefer those designs doesn’t mean there is an imbalance.
This is a troll topic. The only zones that have champ trains on a regular basis are Queensdale and Frostgorge. I have no trouble going to every other zone and attempting the champs there. There are hundreds of champs. You are complaining about a dozen. Kill them once anyway to prove you can do it, but if you are doing it more than once a day, then you are the one deliberately seeking out conflict.
^ This 100% It is TWO ZONES OUT OF OVER A DOZEN – people just like to troll others to be jerks and use excuses to justify it.
We could tell you exactly the same. If you hate people killing your so called “own” and beloved champions, move to a other map and you wont have to deal with that. Not trying to have a fight here, but showing you that we could say exactly the same. Neither of the groups (zergs or single players) have the right to scream at others for not following a rotation.
You are right, neither group should scream at the other – but the individuals who knowingly kill champs just to muck up the gameplay of dozens of people working together is stupid. The “champ train” is not ruining your gameplay – these have been tagged “farming zones” BY THE COMMUNITY so how about respecting the community instead of only thinking about yourself?
The zone was clearly made for zergs, cough, I mean groups. I’m not surprised the zone is annoying – just take a look at the only lvl 80 zones, Cursed Shore / Southsun. There is a good reason few travel to those locales in my opinion – you can make things fun and challenging/rewarding or annoying and challenging/rewarding – Anet chose annoying and forgot the challenge/reward. Well, rather, the challenge is to get through the annoying… after the addition of Southsun my hopes of their ability to make a fun and not annoying high level zone went out the window – maybe they will surprise us one day.

this is why people do these events as soon as possible.
they become so much harder to do later on, there are less and less people doing them everyday, everyone is pretty much burnt out on doing it, and the rewards toward this place are quite bad.i saw how much it would cost/grind to get the mats in order to get those recipes, for the pails, and for the mini prince. i completely gave up on it and just a levels a few of my toons and sold candy corn on the tp for a few gold.
I’m a casual player, even if the mats needed were 1/3 of what they are now, i probably would have skipped it. I’ve had to come to terms with the fact that I can’t do a great deal of stuff in this game and maintain a life.
I agree – I really think Anet backed themselves into a corner by their method of trying to rid the market of excess Halloween currency/materials. Instead of coming up with fun, useful, and most importantly reasonable ways to slowly suck excess out of the market, they made it more difficult to obtain Halloween mats while at the same time added recipes that take an insane amount of those same materials. The end result is that only the rich and/or truly dedicated “players” are going to be able to obtain the recipe items. On top of that, one of the few methods of reliably obtaining materials outside the TP (the labyrinth) has been nerfed into oblivion and has incredibly annoying mobs that pull/stun/fear/knockback constantly along with legendary bosses with one shot ranged AOE abilities (especially to non-80 players scaled up.) I’m hopeful things will get more fun when the Mad King comes to our realm, but things are not looking very promising thus far.
Actually, I was expecting them to comment on flipping the market. :P
Me too – I thought I’d be reading an article on flipping penny stocks.
I just found out the same thing. I have tears in my eyes atm :S I thought it would be like last year. Character. Looked at them with my Engi, then decided I wanted them more for my warrior. But I opend the box already. So no awesome gloves for my warrior
I do hate these tiny buggers in the game.
Awesome looking gloves? The skin is not unique – it is your standard named exotic drop skin – you can buy one from the TP for ~1g.
Why not give rares the best stats then, and make the rarer tiers just funky colours?
Think of it this way. For some people, stats are their cosmetics. It doesn’t matter if it’s pretty much negligible, seeing their stats go up by even just 1 or 2 points over others makes them happy like how seeing your character having a really flashy weapon makes you happy.
Ascended gear is for those people. I made my Ascended GS yday and lo and behold, it have me a grand total of about 70 damage over my previous 3k.
But I agree that this event is possibly the worst holiday event I’ve ever experienced in a game. There are no rewards really. All the stuff you can buy with the new mats costs less than th mats themselves.
But you get your own personal candy corn node for your home instance!!!! I mean, at let’s say an average of 5 candy corn a day from the node, it would only take you ~ 8.2 years to get a 20 slot pail!
(edited by azurrei.5691)
The funny thing about making these things take this many items is that for many people, the motivation to actually try to acquire these items is completely gone. For example, the 20 slot pail – at 15k candy corn, very few people will even bother trying – totally not worth the effort. On the other hand, had they been say, 2-3k candy corn – people would actually go “hmm, I could definitely get some 20-slot bags for some of my alts during this event – time to go find some candy corn!”
I hope they realize that the “grinder” crowd is not exactly a large audience waiting to throw $$ in their face – in fact, the people willing to grind are also probably most of the people who don’t spend any real money on gems.
(edited by azurrei.5691)
#2, To make ascended armor worth the grind (you know it will be one) allow them to have “selectable” stats like legendary weapons do
This is a great idea! Unfortunately, this will be reserved for Legendary Armor (yes, they already confirmed that it is coming AFTER Ascended – grind grind grind)
Just make Ascended armor available in a variety of ways: WvW tokens / Laurels / Fractals / KARMA/ Crafting. Personally, if it doesn’t LOOK COOL I have no interest in ascended.
(edited by azurrei.5691)
Maybe cobs can drop…or come out of CC nodes? idk but who thinks this stuff up? holiday events tend to be RNG or ridiculous grind in this game instead of fun – kinda stupid.
OMG
Thank you Arena Net – you just made my day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let me just say, I don’t care for mini’s in general and have never spent 1s or gems on any mini’s – but as soon as I saw that you actually added the ghost quaggan it was an instant purchase!
Now, if only mini’s were more sophisticated like in other games and could talk – would be perfect!
I had 2 sitting in my bank
There is your problem – stick the tickets in your bag and then go back to the BL specialist.
This has been discussed before, but I agree that karma was nerfed too much. I have over 5 million Karma… please add more karma sinks instead of having new players struggle to earn any karma at all. It was too easy to get gobs of karma before, but it should of been halved not practically zeroed out.
theyre not even that expensive. 7 gold each. Even if you play… 2 hours a day or less, you can do two COF runs in under 30 min and youre guaranteed 2 gold off rip, not counting selling rares or ectos. Honestly Grinded out 2 days of farming and dungeoning, salvaged everything and sold all the mats and got 85 gold and bought my trav runes for mesmer. Yea you dont want to shell out the gold but its really not that bad. I just spent 45 gold to buy two corrupted weapons just for the skins. shrug, and yes Trav runes are actually a real game changer they made me love my mesmer again cuz im not crawling… worth every minute of grinding
Agreed, even at 7g each, 42g is worth it. I was lucky and bought slightly over 2 Yakkington armor sets prior to the change to MF gear (for 1.5-2g per piece,) knowing the new traveler’s runes could be good…my Mesmer and Guardian love them Another alternative that CAN be crafted is the Superior Rune of Speed – it is vitality + 25% speed – although not sure if they have fixed those yet as the speed component was broken last time I checked.
