I love the longbow it looks great on my Ranger, but I agree about most bladed weapons looking like toys.

Yeah, and its just the blades. The hilts, cross-guards, and even the detail on the glowing patterns are nice, its just the blades… I don’t know if its the awkward thickness or the texture of the material. It just looks like it would shatter if you hit them against something.

Yeah. blade is a little thin I agree. I have a GS on my warrior and dual pistols (LOVE THEM!) on my thief – honestly not sure what to make next (have the collectible mats for 2 more already) as none of the other designs are OMG must have, kind of disappointing really.

I think every one of the speculators is going to be caught off guard when, unlike weapons, crafting is only going to be one of several sources of ascended armor. Weapons are treated differently than armor in most MMO’s, and I think that is going to be the case here as well in GW2. I believe that Ascended armor will be made available from dungeons (possibly direct drops and tokens…though probably exclusive to fractals), WvW via marks+laurels, and open world via karma+laurels/guild commendations. I could be wrong and we get a tiered rollout like jewelry, but something tells me crafting (and possible rare drops…) will not be the only source.

200 gold to level a profession to 500 from 400. if i wish to pop my debit card out, that would be around 8000 gems or 100 dollars which could be happily spent on a half month supply of McDonalds and Hot Pockets for a kittening pink weapon.

I played heavily for the first month of the game, then maybe an 5-7 hours/week up until the champion patch (then I farmed them like mad..) I had a decent amount of materials saved up because most of that time I spent doing a quick Orr run or two. I am 500 in WS and Huntsman and I can tell you I personally spent no where near even 100g total, inc three weapon designs (obviously there is opportunity cost there, but I still had ~ 7 stacks of ancient wood to sell @ the high)…if you don’t have mats, then stop complaining and start gathering – or if you are the type to gather and sell immediately then you should have the gold, no?

Only lv 80 Exotics drop Dark Matter, and even then, it’s still RNG based. I suggest crafting them, or buying them off the TP, then invest in more Black Lion Salvage Kits.

that is not true – I salvaged an old lvl 76 exotic pistol (generic world drop) with a mystic kit and got 1 dark matter a few days ago

What about the people who have no inclination to do dungeons or jumping puzzles FOR WHATEVER REASON would like an ascended weapon but are left out in the cold, if they are really wanting one of those items they are BEING FORCED into content they do not wish to be a part of and GOES AGAINST ANETs claim that you can PLAY THE GAME THE WAY YOU WANT. Yes I am getting an Ascended weapon.

You don’t have to do jumping puzzles. You can do open world chests,Dungons, or WvW

If you aren’t on JQ, SOR, or BG then a PvE’ers wont make a lick of difference in WvW or the leagues….

Couldn’t be farther from the truth. Those PvErs are going to be looking for any decent guild out there to leech captures and get their Meta done. Lots of guilds run without tags and actively tell ‘Pugs’ to leave them alone because they rally other people. Happens now, will happen when this comes out.

Guess you didn’t get my joke…in the gold league of the top 12 servers, any server below the top 3 don’t stand a chance at winning the league, population differences is too extreme between each server. A few pve’ers aren’t going to be the “oh kitten deciding factor” in the number 7’s chances at winning the league, they weren’t even in the running from the beginning

Actually that is incorrect. T1 servers will beat each other up when in the same match-up, even if there is a 3rd non-T1 server, because they’ll be so focused on beating them in the points. Someone did a ‘mock up’ of the last 7 weeks (not an exact replica of results/matchups) but SoS won.

It wouldn’t mean much. In the last 7 weeks the tier 1 servers have been mostly playing tier 1 servers. In the league they will be against lower servers more often. I guess it would be possible for a non tier 1 server to win if they can get consistent results and the tier 1 servers split wins among themselves when they are matched together.

True. In the last 7 weeks, T1 has played each other 3 times (1v2v3), lowest seed #1 played was #5 (DB, BG won by 130k) and this week (FA up by 70k on Tuesday morning..LOL).

If the best Rank 5 can do is lose by 130k, how can 7-12 expect to do anything but be spawn camped all week?

How ANet thought this was a good idea is beyond me.

The only hope is that Tier 1 server will let their pugs have fun when they play T3-4 servers and the WvW guilds will only play when it comes to T1-2 servers but this might be the most boring/frustrating 7 weeks of WvW ever.

EDIT: the lowest seed a T1 server has played so far is #8 (Mag), JQ in this case. Final was:

These match-ups are going to be over so fast…

EDIT2: To add on to your post: I do this TC has the best choice to win this .JQ/SoR/BG will be so focused on beating each other up, TC could steal a 2nd place finish a couple times in those match-ups (depending on matches of course) TC will match T1 win for win when facing Rank 5-12 already but TC can use T1’s hatred towards each other to it’s benefit. TC has had some close fights with T1 servers as recent as Aug and with the extra people coming out to play, they could hold the pure numbers to be on the same level as T1.

Maybe, but TC is getting their teeth kicked in by SoR as I type…

When Season 1 starts, there will be more stuff to win in WvW, and it will likely become even more important to some people. By itself, I think that’s great and kind of overdue.

The problem is, there’s still PvE stuff to do in WvW. The jumping puzzle, world completion, gathering (can you find sugar pumpkins anywhere else in the game?), and even a ranger pet that can only be found there. This means that people with no interest in PvP will head in and be running around. Depending on the time of day, they may be displacing people who actually want to get in there and fight to win the WvW rewards.

I’m not sure how much of a difference the PvEers make when they take up player slots in WvW, or if it’s enough to matter. But with the stakes for winning at WvW going up, are we actually okay with this conflict? Is ANet?

One fact to ease your concerns: WvW IS PVE

…but the zergs can attack one another instead of only the NPC’s, only difference from normal Tyria maps!

So yeah, there may be a few more people than usual that decide to participate in the zerg vs zerg instead of just doing their daily JP – the more the merrier!

People get “misplaced” into overflows from people doing things other than the world mega bosses in a zone while the boss is active, really no difference.

This is not the solution to the problem because the problem exists in other world boss zones as well, even those that DO NOT have a popular champion farm path.

The main problem is GUESTING – ever try to do a boss within 4 hours of reset? Everyone who gets home form work logs in, looks up gw2stuff (or dragon timers if they are behind the times) and guests to wherever events are taking place.

I think that you should only get chest/daily rewards for the mega bosses while on your native server – that would go a long way to solving overflow issues. The servers are more than full of players where these bosses are easily taken down on all but the most odd of hours during the day.

Another option is the event overflow system we saw with the Scarlet Invasions, that could work too.

Whatever happened to legendary weapons being legendary because of 1) lore 2) a lot of work to acquire them (no, grinding 100’s of hours for gold or gems—>gold is not work) 3) awesome, unique designs that STAND ON THEIR OWN with maybe a little glow or effect.

Fractals. So sick of only doing fotm 48. I cant wait till they remove the cap and they are revamped later this year!

and this ladies and gentlemen is how gear treadmill starts.

And this is also how they create content without it really being content…lol. Fractals are like being hooked up to an electric shock machine and with each level the volts are cranked higher (better get that agony resistance…,) even though the content is pretty much exactly the same otherwise. About as entertaining (IMO) as getting those shocks…

What people are too stupid to realise is that Ascended Items are not there to be obtained in a single day, neither the crafting is supposed to be leveled from 400 to 500 within 2 hours. I believe that these statements answer every question regarding the Ascended issue.

Very true – I’m actually enjoying having something to work towards that takes a reasonable amount of time. Having said that, I have excess time on my hands at the moment and am already working on crafting my third weapon.

I have not checked the vendor – but possibly the karma vendor at Temple of Melandru – it used to be Wayfarer which was MF so it is possible the accessories were changed to Dire (as were the wayfarer random drops)

It cost me 88g to move my second account from my old server to my current main server – a cost that was more than paid for by…participating in… the scarlet invasions for two weeks. Spend an hour or two a day gathering in demand materials and farming champions – in a few weeks you should have enough gold to transfer (83 gold at current market prices.)

I haven’t seen any empyreal fragments from jumping puzzles yet….. is my luck just that kittening bad?

I’m not sure what the minimum level is to actually receive fragments from chests (80 would make sense…) but a level 15 alt I ran through a JP is the only time I did not receive fragments.

You people are so stupid. Its about balancing the economy. More money in the game makes prices go up. altough it seems that youre richer than before, you are not. What 100g was worth is what 200g is now.

Really? 100g used to buy me just shy of an entire T3 cultural outfit. 200g today buys me…almost two full T3 cultural outfits. Abyss dye is still 25ish g…Celestial dye is still 16-18g…Powerful Bloods are still 30ish silver… Lodestones are 30-50% cheaper…etc, etc.

More fun = gold easier to acquire offset by more gold sinks to balance out the economy

I’m sorry that former CoF Path 1 farmers and TP heroes are having to deal with a little inflation…so sad.

It’s time to make mindless zerging time gated, just like every other money making activity in the game.

So you want the entire game time gated? No thanks.

It’s fine the way it is – you do realize only a very small portion of the player base does this for any length of time, right? If EVERYONE did nothing but kill champs FGS and CS would permanently be overflow maps and instead of 10-60 people (on higher pop servers…) it would be 1000’s across many overflow maps. Heck, ironically I spent dozens and dozens of hours farming champs for the last month… but I’ve spent no more than 3 hours TOTAL since last Tuesday (ascended weapon patch day)- want to know why? there is plenty of other things to do in the game – currently for me it’s farming up dragonite and empyreal shards – both of which have very little to do with farming champions (at least for me.)

I’ve been spending 2-3 hours a day running around looting chests in the open world / doing a single JP for the last 4 daily CD’s and have over 1400 fragments – so that is probably about 10ish hours of work for almost 3 weapons worth.

Care to give the exact breakdown? 2-3hrs a day ONLY opening chests + 1 JP sounds about right as for 1400 I would like to see how even with alts.

Sure. I do probably 75% of all the open world chests on a main, then do rounds in wayfarer and queensdale only on all my level 80 alts (7 total level 80’s.) I then do one of the jumping puzzles in Caledon forest that gives 6-9 fragments on all 7 80’s as well. I also loot maybe 40% of the “easy” chests in Orr on 4 of those 80’s while gathering wood/ore. It all adds up rather quickly…

If you only had one level 80. obviously it would take a lot longer to gather the shards or you would have to work harder at it doing say, a bunch of dungeon paths. BUT, it’s all the same in the end as someone with a bunch of alts needs to make weapons for those alts eventually, the only benefit is gearing out your main faster.

It’s too bad I only have two 80 characters, but thankfully 1 has all waypoints and the other has 80-90% all waypoints.
Time to play the game, ie. farming chests.

If you spent the same amount of time on your 2 80’s getting more of the chests / JP’s than me, you would get the same amount in that time – it is just less stressful to do the low level one’s sometimes

I’m wondering if the +stat + agony resist infusion will add any effects to the weapons…

So you play a “dedicated staff elementalist,” meaning you only do a few of the activities in which a staff is desired/optimal or choose to do all of the other activities with a less than optimal weapon…but choose not to limit yourself on your thief – I see no issue here with ascended weapons.

For those that don’t have a stockpile of karma (even after buying 300 obi shards this week I still have over 5 million) this is a horrible nerf. I can only hope this is a temporary thing to suck out some of the excess karma in the system (slowly) before they introduce new, actually useful karma items (ascended maybe???) as well as more ways to obtain karma. Or, they are completely killing karma off eventually – one of the two…

I could see them adding an ASCENDED weapon collector title for crafted weapons, because unlike legendary weapons you actually have to put work into it. Yes, you can buy 95% of the materials off the TP, but you HAVE to collect your own bloodstone/empyreal shards/dragonite ore.

A legendary can just be bought on a whim for real $$ off the TP – that is not an achievement. Now, if they tie the achievement to having AT LEAST one World Completion on your account for every 2 legendaries, then maybe.

I guess it would be acceptable to those who can’t get the extra 10 laurels to have 10 laurels taken away from those who did.

What a bunch of spoiled, entitled people who other than buying the game pay nothing to keep playing it.

You weren’t shafted, some people were fortunate. Deal.

It’s like ordering the veal and getting charged for the chicken or buying the regular edition of a film and finding the collector’s edition in the box. Mistakes happen, some people are lucky.

ANet has already acknowledged that the reset was an unintended consequence. Did you expect people who logged out 3/4 would not notice, or noticing, would say nothing? Yeah, mistakes happen — and sometimes, they even get fixed. If it’s any consolation, I don’t care if people get ten more laurels than I did and ANet decides not to revert that, because taking stuff away is always going to generate anger — just look at the people who were 3/4 and got stuff taken away.

The “fairest” thing would be to allow 10 laurels for completing 4/x and another 10 for completing 6/x — this month only.

I finished monthly #2 and DID NOT get 10 more laurels…XP, 50s, 6k karma jug (lol), 1 purple essence of luck, and 20 more coins

in other words, you are not missing much.

I dunno, 20 per dungeon run doesn’t seem bad to me. If you really wanted to grind out an ascended weapon, it wouldn’t be hard to do 25 dungeon runs in a few days, and for everyone else the 2 week estimate is eminently reasonable. And for people who’d rather zerg, the way you can with meta events for dragonite, there’s wvw camps and towers.

We shouldn’t have to do dungeons to make it acceptably efficient – 2-3 jumping puzzles that take 30-45 min to complete should be equivalent to a dungeon path. Honestly, it’s all low – doing a dragon event that take 10-15 min (or less) gives you 15-30ish fragments, but the same time in a JP gives you 2-6? This is coming off as complaining, I know, but when 2 of the 3 items are reasonable to obtain and then the 3rd takes 5-10x as long…it’s prob because JP’s / dungeons are my least favorite thing to do (of course…) I guess I might give WvW towers a shot.

Worse is Dragonite Ore. 5 For castles and only 10 for the Stonemist castle WTF?!

Also you get 20 for dragons and 30 for temples. but apparently you can only loot that chest once per day.

Yeah, the dragonite/bloodstone are easy(ish) to get, but the fragments…ugh.

Not recommended that would likely be considered a exploit. Along the lines of if it is too good to be true it probably is.

This has happened before and noone got banned for getting 10 extra laurels…

yeah, i noticed that too. i bug reported it. people who have done it already get to do it a 2nd time! crazy… i was off by 1 (3/4 done). this is hopefully fixed soon.

edit 1: oh, and i’m down to 1/4 done now. they changed a bunch.

this has happened before and yes, people who completed it before the change can double up.

What exactly is explorers’ set losing performance-wise if the magic find is removed from them, but it had its 2 remaining combat stats?

Make the full set.. And you’ll see, it’s weaker than anything else you can put on.. Effectiveness <> Total stats..

The problem has never been, people losing combat effectiveness when MF is removed from their gear.. This does not apply to any MF set.. It just would make MF sets inferior to other options.. And that applies to celestial as well.. Simple really..

People made entire builds around Celestial gear – MF has no effect on said build – simple, really…

Yeah I’m pretty disappointed in their plan on Celestial gear. It really seemed to make my ele feel much less neglected by the developers. I worked really hard to build that gear through what seemed like an eternity of gated work. Now I find it’s going to just loose a stat where almost every other piece of equipment with that stat is getting a replacement. I’m fine with the rest of the plan, but something different needs to be done with celestial.

You are losing a stat that has no effect at all on the performance of your elementalist – because Celestial was overbudgeted, stat wise, compared to any “normal” magic find gear.

I’m still in the process of making a Celestial set for my Guardian and have no plans to stop just because MF is gone from it…after all, the stat is now rolled into my entire account so you really are not losing anything.

I think that the timegate is in place simply to avoid the rich people from outright buying their way into Ascended weapons on the first day.

Because let’s be honest, there are tons of people who are hoarding stuff in preparation for this.

Except they pretty much CAN buy all the pieces off the TP, only thing holding them back is 500 crafting. The time gated components are tradeable…

Probably not – you will most likely have a choice of the other temple stat combo’s only. If you want “cheap” berserker gear, buy the named level 80 MF exotic drops off the TP (as berserker is one of the stat combo’s for drop gear) or craft an explorer’s set.

Exactly, fractals have been the sole source of ascended backs for 10 months – I think it is time for another source. There are a lot of people that do not run dungeons in this (or any other) MMO.

If you want berserker, you might be able to get a cheaper MF set off the TP than crafting Explorer’s – look for the lvl 80 named exotic armor sets.

If you want knights, craft or buy explorer gear to save some $$ on armored scales as there are no named knight’s sets as drops so that probably will not be an option to select

So crafting a 1 hand weapon cost basically the same as crafting a 2 hander?

Correct me if I’m wrong but i don’t see much difference between crafting a scepter compared to a great sword besides the cost swap on the wood to metal costs.

No different than it is now – a one handed exotic is not half the mats of a two handed weapon, either.

So, crafting an ascended weapon will take about 2 weeks if you use a 2 hander but a month if you use say a scepter and dagger for a complete set and cost more to boot. You don’t see the difference compared to now?
The mats are not really a big enough of a factor to notice now but this will be.

I see your point, but are you new to MMO’s? 1h’d users always get the short end of the stick when it comes to gearing up in my experience. Now, in GW2 an OH weapon is more than just a stat stick as in most MMO’s (to varying degrees…), it actually gives you different abilities – I’d say an OH is worth more in GW2 for whatever that is worth.

Ascended time gated component question

I’ve read the update on ascended weapon crafting and am still confused. Can someone tell me what components are time gated and where they will be available in game? Are any of these time gated components account bound? Also, could someone tell me which components are account bound?

I’m relatively new to crafting and am finding these new recipes confusing…

There are 5 types of Ascended materials, all are account bound except maybe (not sure) dark matter with is salvaged from exotics. One is purchases with skill points, the other three come from various activities around the world. ALL time gated components crafted which use these account bound materials are TRADEABLE.

So quick summary:

RAW Ascended Materials = Account Bound
Time Gated Components that use the above Account Bound Materials = TRADEABLE
Final Product (Ascended Weapon) = Account Bound

So assuming you have 500 crafting, you can buy ALL materials necessary for an Ascended Weapon from either the TP or a Vendor (one uses skill points.)

… at least I think that is correct We will find out on Tues for certain.

If this is in reference to Ascended weapons – if you have the gold, you can have a weapon as soon as you hit 500 crafting – all the “time gated” components are tradeable (you can buy them on the TP if players are willing to sell their CD’s.) The account bound ascended materials are combined with other items to make tradeable components. The final product (weapon) is Account bound.

I highly doubt you only get 1 dust per champ/chest/etc… although I suppose it will take quite a few, regardless.

I’m confused by the above comments – it seems like a totally reasonable amount of materials to me for a top tier weapon. Remember it is time gated, so this is the amount of material that would need to be gathered over a two week (min) period.
