Cause we aren’t buying the core game again. The core game is just free for those who don’t already have it. The $50 is 100% the price of the expansion.

To anyone who already paid $10-60 for the base game, it feels like you are getting screwed (aka paying more for less than a new person or paying for something twice.)

This just saves me the $30-40 I would have been willing to pay for this expansion…I can’t say I’m shocked really – this seems like something NcSoft would pull (making customers pay for something twice.) It’s fine, when the expansion is on sale for Black Friday I might buy it if it isn’t a disappointment.

Exemplar is now in the Outfit Panel – so SOON. Anyways, from a business standpoint it makes more sense to add the item likely to be less popular first instead of releasing something everyone and their mother is going to instantly buy which helps avoid the potential for on the fence buyers of the less popular outfit to opt out instead of buying the new hotness (no pun intended) while waiting for what they really want. All I know is, if you are thinking of converting gems>gold you have a golden opportunity (also no pun!) coming up to get a lot more for your money…

Why is silk going up in price?

First off, ground turkey is amazing. Ground turkey makes you strong.
Secondly, a wild rant != good feedback in any situation.

Let me ask a question, if you could farm silk specifically, but slowly, so the price remained what it currently is or higher, would that be better or worse?

Agreed – ground turkey is amazing! I eat turkey burgers (sans bun) 3-4 nights a week!

So are we talking something along the lines of daily reset open world plant fiber nodes? About as rare as T6 nodes perhaps? I would be all for that as a way to target cloth specifically in exchange for the removal/reduction of dropped “garment” type items and / or number of cloth scraps from salvage.

The +30 to a single stat will not significantly alter his results and conclusion.

Sure, but looking at just armor, which this thread is mainly complaining about, it is a 4% boost in power over exotic which is rather significant as he states it as a 1% increase, which it isn’t.

Did you run the numbers?

what numbers? +44 power over exotic is ~4% boost to armor power

to clarify for you,
1004 is the total amount of stats available from a major stat for having all exotic equipment
44/1004 = 4.3% more power than a full exotic user
now, if you want to examine only the armor
315 is the total power for armor alone
44/315 =13% more power from armor than a person using exotic armor.

Now, this is really a side issue, it really doesnt matter how much the gains are, for the same gains, people are doing more work.

hmm yeah, clearly I wasn’t fully awake yet! So, it is even more of a stat bump for power when looking a just armor. That is what happens when you play multiple MMO’s – didn’t even think about that amount of stats being impossible for just armor (in this game,) lol.

Any chance someone could also summarize what the thread’s about at this point? It started out as being a whine about the cost of silk, and then mutated into a blob about ascended being necessary (it’s not, outside of easing the grind of AR in fractals and completing the achievement), silk being too high for damask (anyone remember when linen was more costly than silk at one point?), and cloth wearers being “shafted” by the crafting system.

Over 10% damage increase is 100% necessary, especially in WVW.

Fun fact: skill coefficients means it’s not a 10% damage increase by using ascended armor. A warrior using an ascended greatsword, exotic armor, and ascended trinkets (ascended) has, without runes and sigils in play, +1073 power, +734 precision, +734 ferocity. Add in ascended armor? That goes to +1087 power, +745 precision, +745 ferocity. Basic AA chain damage with exotic armor (~2600 armor target): 573,573,738. Basic AA chain with ascended armor vs same target: 577,577,743.

So… uh… yea, ascended armor being necessary outside of AR resistance in fractals? Total, utter, complete, rank dolyak kitten. Upgrading to an ascended weapon makes a bigger difference than upgrading to ascended armor.

*To make it simpler to read:

  • Ascended weapon, trinkets, exotic armor: +1073 power, +734 precision, +734 ferocity, AA chain damage 573/573/738
  • Ascended weapon, trinkets, armor: +1087 power, +745 precision, +745 ferocity, AA chain damage 577/577/743

Result? Ascended armor still not necessary. In fact, the difference between exotic armor and ascended armor is roughly +14/11/11, barely over a 1% increase in stats. Meanwhile, exotic to ascended trinkets gives a far bigger boost of around +70/35/35, much closer to a ~7-8% increase (averaged between the 3 stats).

edit: here’s another hilarious fact, it costs 48g to craft zojja’s claymore (a zerker ascended weapon) to gain a bigger damage boost than an entire ascended armor set.

you are ignoring the +30 stats from the +5 power or precision or condition damage / + 5 agony resist omni infusions that can be socketed into the infusion slots in your comparison… or cheap extra + 30 defensive/healing stats (just armor since you are using ascended weapon/trinkets in both categories)

Will Bolts of Damask ever drop in price?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: azurrei.5691

azurrei.5691

Since the exact same thing can be said for metal and wood, I ask you why there are ore and lumber nodes in the game.

Because it makes SENSE that you chop down Trees and mine Ore? I know that sounds silly in a fantasy game setting, but if you think about it, NODES of Cloth and Leather existing in the game world is kind of “immersion breaking” (and I HATE that term).

but mostly this…

Because metal and wood have a huge sink in crafting rare lvl 80 weapons for the forge.
Cloth and leather dont have that extra sink.

I also think there are quite a few things about the crafting system Anet Devs would love to go back in time and change, but they realize that changing them now would upset a lot of long time player AND seriously mess up the current economic balances that are in place. Still, I think lowering the requirements for Silk on a Bolt of Damask would be done if they felt the Silk supply could not meet the current demand (and it obviously is).

Silk from larvae
Wool from sheep
Linen from plant fibers
Skins from animals

Basically, they need to add “skinning” to the gathering abilities (for leather/wool/etc.) and throw in some plant nodes that make sense (like linen.)

OR

Revert the silk bolt change back to 2 scraps from 3 and change the other cloth to 1 scrap (or reduce the amount required for Damask by 1/2.)

Bottom Line – if you have high account MF (200%+, preferably maxed) AND you like to gamble – buy the divine envelopes, either from the vendor or TP (you must REALLY like to gamble at the prices I saw earlier…) If your account MF is nothing exciting, buy the Divine Envelopes from the vendor and sell to the gamblers (assuming it is still profitable to do so.) 1/3 of the reward is the guy crazy if you want to make a 5 man into a 1 man then its 1/5 of the reward buddy.
So instead of 69 with 3 boss bags you get 14

If we are going by that kind of logic, I could argue that the reward could still be 69 since everyone in the group gets the same amount at the end of the dungeon. 5(69)/5 = 69

The point of the reduced cost it to keep group dungeons more profitable. If you really want it 20% of the rewards then I am pretty sure reducing the strength of enemies up to 50% would be adequate compensation.

20% would be ridiculous unless it was so fast and easy you could clear all paths solo faster than a 5 man group. I think reducing the dungeon currency rewards by 1/3 (so from 60 to 40) for one player, and then scaling by 5 for each player up to 60 would be perfect. Oh, and those +3 bonus bags? Leave those as a bonus for a full group of 5. Now the gold reward should probably be reduced by 2/3’s for a solo player and scale by ~ 17% per additional player up to the (current) reward for a full group of 5. This makes it worthwhile for the solo player, but each additional player nicely scales the rewards for everyone.

Sell Ascended Armor/Weapons in Laurels

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: azurrei.5691

azurrei.5691

If they were to ever offer this, I would hope they would list them at over 100 laurels. I mean, they have two minis and a tonic that go for 75 and 100 laurels; ascended gear better cost more than those.

you mean like ascended necks for 30? or rings for 35? or 20 + 250 WvW tokens/ 25+ 250 WvW tokens instead, respectively?

Weapon for 80, Chest 70, Legs 60, Helm/Boots/Shoulders/Gloves 50 – that sounds about right.

Considering the amount of mats that go into crafting ascended weapons and armor, they should cost a LOT more than the trinkets currently do. At least 100 laurels a piece.

at it would take 28+ days of logging in to get ONE piece with my prices, don’t see how that is not reasonable.

Players should not get the top level gear for just showing up. The only reason I suggested 100 laurels earlier in the thread was because that’s roughly how many it would take to convert to gold and be able to level a craft and then craft a piece of armor.

Given that you can open your wallet and instantly have a legendary weapon or 95% of any ascended item by converting gems>gold, I find your argument completely invalid – still a very long time gate because you can not “farm” laurels.

Anyone else find it slightly disturbing that devs don’t know that falling deaths don’t damage armor?

The only time I ever need to repair my armor is in SW… stupid terragriffs and their nonsensical AOE, damage invulnerability, and stacking dmg kill me at least 3 times a play session.

Just to be clear when I say double, I mean pay for repair+pay to WP after a death. Personally I think it would of been better for the game to remove WP costs and keep armor repair – it would of given people an incentive to not die (armor repair) while at the same time not stay dead waiting for a rez instead of being cheap and not WP’ing (even worse when the dead are still scaling a boss/champ…)

Make more special tools like the frostbitten / watchwork tools for even more incentive to buy new “skins” that have a chance to get you something extra – don’t care just make them account wide!

Can you imagine the uproar from the crowd that has bought a set for every single one of their characters? Account wide is not going to happen, if you want a set for each of your characters you’ll have to purchase them or continue swapping. Nor is dividing them into tools, skins and bonuses going to happen…not after all this time.

The uproar from .01% of the population? ok… and even most of those people probably do not have multiples of the SAME tool except for maybe the Watchwork Pick.

There is a time for RNG and a time for fixed results. I’d much rather have fixed results. Now, naiasonod said it best in the grind thread. This is a game, not a job. I shouldn’t have to work at it like a job just to be able to get what I’m wanting to get.

adding PvE reward tracks like the PvP tracks would do a LOT of good. I think the reason they don’t have them implemented is A) that is THE incentive to suffer through sPvP and B ) the already little played dungeons would get worse. I think they should do it anyway and at the same time buff dungeon rewards for groups of five and scale it down (based on number of players) to slightly below current rewards for groups of 1-4 (yes, scaling dungeons.)
