Are we not allowed to earn gold?

right – you ran DUNGEONS – we shouldn’t have to run dungeons or fractals to earn a reasonable amount of gold – a lot of people HATE dungeons and prefer open world stuff (which by the way, was a major selling point of this game – open world activities.)

Then your whining should be to increase open world rewards (which I agree, event rewards are terrible) instead of acting like it is impossible to get gold.

when and where did I act like it was impossible to get gold? – I didn’t start this tread it was a reply to someone who was oblivious to the overall issue in this thread – you should be able to earn a reasonable amount of gold income from ALL activities – THAT is the issue

my guild is small and we have not run many dungeons yet. i am doing just fine financially doing open world content. i know some folks are tired of hearing this, but learning how the game economy works is critical if you want to make money. simple as that.

so true, but if we all wanted to be a day trader we would do it in real life, not in a game that is not at all about day trading (or maybe it is…) – flipping is for the lazy

The problem is with the word “grinding”. Why do you feel the need to grind? I did practically nothing yesterday – ran fractals twice, ran AC once and played WvW for about 4 hours. I got 9 rares (I’m geared for magic find) and I sold them for 6G. 6G in a day is not bad in my opinion. And then I hear about how people can’t make money.

Yeah, it’s ridiculous.

I run AC two or three times a night, and usually get 2-3 gold not even factoring in rares.

Just by playing the game i can make without efforts 1.5 Gold per game session (2 – 3 hours ). Now if i put little efforts and check TP .. prices .. looking for the current highest item in demand .. sell , buy .. re-list items etc … i can do like yesterday : start playing the game with 2 gold im my inventory and finish two hours and a half later with 9.5 Gold … so i made 7 Gold yesterday … not bad …

Here is the problem – you were not playing the game, you were playing the TP – this is not Monopoly Tycoon 2. I should be able to go do a dungeon, farm DE’s, finish zone completions, WvW (yes, that is PvE…), etc and expect to earn a reasonable return of gold for the time/effort. Flipping on the TP should NOT be the only way to make a decent amount of gold – it should be a fun side activity if you like to gamble, not the central way to make in game currency…In every other MMO I have ever played over the last umpteen years I have never felt like I couldn’t go out and make a decent amount of in game currency doing one of the many in game activities – never has the only reasonable time/reward option been to flip things on the AH. (Which seems to be the case with GW2)

We could use a nice fat sale on gems at the BLTC to entice some of the player base into feeling a bit better over the ascended gear fiasco. I know I for one would jump on the chance to actually buy a few gems if the price were reduced. Everyone loves a sale especially at this time of year when money is tight!

Will never happen because of the gem—>gold option

Maybe they’ll release a version of LA without FotM that way it can be like the rest of the world and have barely anyone there?

Your sarcasm aside, having 100 people piled by a dungeon portal in one small area of LA is hardly a bustling city… it’s just annoying having additional loading screens – I agree with the OP.

I’m trying to understand the issue at hand.

-Fractals are fun. Play more of it and you get rewarded, akin to dungeons but with new shiny gear. Don’t like it? Go back to running dungeons for exotics, still takes time and effort. (-minor stat points)

Fractals are fairly fun, the problem is “LF1M FotM lvl 8” “LF1M FotM lvl 15” – so splitting of the playerbase AND they made fractals the default best way to acquire gold and gear while playing the game (even though they still are not very good.) Playing in the open world is a horrible way to make gold or acquire gear now (not that it was so super awesome before, either.)

Notice how few people are out in the world? Blame that on people feeling forced to run fractals for one reason or another. Fractals should be something you run when you feel like it because they are fun, not because it’s the only way to progress your character…

I’ve been playing less for a month or so now
Outside the holiday/one time events my routine:
1) Log into 80 #1, pick high level 24 hour spawn gatherables, do an event if I see one (get annoyed at Orr mobs)
2) Log into 80 #2, pick high level 24 hour spawn gatherables, do an event if I see one (get even more annoyed at Orr mobs)
3) Log into my 6 low level / bank alts, gather low level rare spawn gatherables
4) Finish daily on low level thief alt (kills, variety, events, etc)
5) Check TP, maybe sell or buy something

Log back to another game that is currently more entertaining…

We need more OPEN WORLD, LESS ANNOYING, MORE REWARDING/MEANINGFUL (karma is not used for anything exciting…) content. Solo dungeons would be nice too…

5-man dungeons are fine for those that like them
sPvP and WvW are fine for those that like them
Jumping puzzles do not belong in an MMO – leave that to single player console games – fine for those that like them I guess

Seriously…please revamp the high level open world content – I want to love GW2 but it’s becoming increasing difficult to do so.

Q to those asking for more solo-friendly game

Well last night while I was doingvmy dailies in the Sothsun Cove I noticed on the Mao chat that some asked: “Anyone up for the rich ori node?” Now as we know the ori nose is guarded by a Champion Karka. So I responded to him to invite me into the party so one could kite the champ while the other one mines.

When we got there I proceeded to start kiting the champ with my ranger and sure enough the other guy went in and mined what he could out of that, what surprised me was that immediately after he finished he just quit the party and left me there alone with the Karka which sure enough proceeded to quickly wipe me out…

Last night was the first time since the headstart that I haven’t bothered to finish dailies, and this is simply because of actions of a single selfish player.

So yes I’d much rather just solo trough the content than deal with idiots like him…

I actually have noticed this more and more lately – a lot (not all) of the friendly players are starting to dwindle at a rather fast rate.

Q to those asking for more solo-friendly game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

azurrei.5691

This applies to (non-dungeon) PvE only:

Do you actually prefer not to play together with other people, or is your playing solo a solution to the lack of people to team up with (either in party or mini zerg)?

To put it in terms of what you think Anet should change: should this massively multiplayer game be turned into a solo game as happened with GW1, or should it be changed to make it much easier to find a group – ie by indicating the locations of other players on the zone map?

The world we live in is “massively multiperson.” Let’s say I want to go on a hike to spend some quality time in a quiet environment, out in nature all by myself. Now, obviously, unless I go on an unmarked trail in the middle of nowhere, chances are I’m going to run into a few more hikers, some alone and some with a companion or two. I should expect to see people because the world is “massively multiperson,” so I should I also be forced to start talking to random strangers, maybe even start hiking along side them? No, of course I shouldn’t. Sometimes I like to be able to do things alone, and sometimes I like to do things with other people.

Same goes for an MMO. Level 80 zones SHOULD at least have some areas (of any given level range) that are solo friendly – and god forbid not contain annoying mobs just because the zone is “high level.” Heck, I’d love to have some solo dungeons, too.

in The Lost Shores

I missed the “live” attempt because I was in an overflow that was so overcrowded you literally could do nothing. I spent an hour trying to do (what I later found out) to be the very first part of the event chain and eventually ended in an infinite loop after trying to rez at a waypoint. I had to ALT-F4, and then I was unable to log back in. Around 8:30p.m. I saw people saying they were having success with overflow so I gave it a shot – 3 hours later I successfully completed the event. I then had my GF log in (who was busy doing work with a deadline) and after 1.5 hours I FINALLY got into an overflow for her with a live event. With about 30 min or so left of the event (almost done with second ridiculously long wave of adds right before the blow up 12 piles of whatever) – restart for the new build… I was so disappointed and upset…

I second the notion to give everyone an opportunity – to be honest, Anet’s mistake was making the reward TOO good – had it been cosmetic they would not be having a near riot on their hands.

Yep, of course people are – this is what happens when you have dozens of levels with different rewards (quality). It’s only going to get worse I’m afraid – GW2 went from one of the most casual friendly games to one with some of the worst gating I’ve ever seen.

What's the logic behind fractal levels?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: azurrei.5691

azurrei.5691

Serious question. I’ve largely avoided the new Lost Shores content until today. Now I’m noticing that almost nobody is interested in doing low level fractal runs since for the most part everyone has beaten the lower difficulties. And this will seemingly only get worse. What is the logic behind creating such a barrier between players? Especially since you can’t even run fractals with people from other servers.

What we really need is a cross-server LFG system. This is the only thing I can imagine aside from eliminating the current difficulty system (and at least allowing people to join groups of any difficulty level.) that will fix this problem.

There is logic, but the logic is flawed.

Simple fix is to allow ANYONE to join a difficulty level of the highest member in the group. Segregating people across DOZENS of lvl’s…especially when rewards change drastically at intervals of 10, is just… yeah.

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: azurrei.5691

azurrei.5691

What bugs me more is that with increased stats on ascended gear they’ll render every content currently in the game obsolete. Crafting is useless, all the mystic forge recipies for unique exotic skins (which require a lot of effort as well) are useless as well as pretty much everything else that’s not ascended or whatever they might add during their “item progression initiative”.

Um what? So let me get this straight. Before Ascended gear existed, all the special Mystic forge weapon recipes were useful for what exactly? Didn’t they have the EXACT same stats as your run of the mill crafted exotic that cost 1/100th or less the cost? Why would I bother making Volcanus then? Oh wait, IT WAS FOR THE SKIN. How, exactly, is something that was PURELY CRAFTED FOR THE SKIN now useless? Answer: IT’S NOT

Skins are fun…but having the ONLY way to progress your character is by playing dress up with a new outfit, it makes the game BORING. This is why it worked in the single/multi-player RPG GW1 but it does NOT work in an MMO-RPG – people need things to do AND things to work towards – I’m not saying that they HAVE to add gear power creep, but they sure as hell needed to add something.

Honestly, I could care less about Ascended gear as I only do dungeons every so often (GW2 dungeons are just average…and are pretty kitten buggy still at that). What interests me more are the changes to rewards and a new zone that I might actually want to spend more than a half hour or so gathering in and getting my daily finished (Orr sucks, badly). Now if only they could come up with more useful uses for Karma besides poorly itemized exotic gear or sub-par legendaries that are no where near worth the time and cost, I’d be all set.

Let’s not forget that GW1 WAS A DIFFERENT GAME. It was a single player instanced RPG that allowed you to play with friends or a group of A.I. NPC’s at your side. Oh, you could trade and talk with players, too. It was NOT an MMO with an open world. ArenaNet is attempting to adapt/refine their core GW2 gameplay to attract a wider audience – give them some credit for trying to do it in the least evasive way possible – we still don’t know all the details so there is no need to to argue until we experience it for ourselves.

This has the ring of truth to it. While it is disappointing that it seems the only way to make a financially successful mmo is gear treadmilling it isn’t entirely unexpected. Guess WOW will remain king for a while yet.

edit – Thanks Leiloni!

The crazy thing is if GW2 had a sub, they probably wouldn’t have to make this change of direction.

Report indicates that GW2 has established itself as one of the main earners of the company. Guess the pressure to maintain that position without box sales going forward is pretty heavy. I suppose this may be a result of the gem store not being as profitable as they hoped. Wonder if there were more attractive buys on there, coupled with better results stamping out 3rd party gold selling/botting this would not have happened?

Take away the RNG BLC BS and add tons and tons of fixed price skins to the store and they will hit a gold mine…

Not going to read 25 pages so if this is a rehash oh well.
I seem to recall Anet saying something along the lines of legendary comparable armors coming out sometime after release. Exotic is not the top tier for weapons, legendary is. So releasing this new armor is nothing more then them doing exactly what they planned in the first place. A tier above Exotic and on par with Legendary is not cause for freaking out.

Again……. Exotic and Legendary Weapons, have exact the SAME stats, there are not more powerful, only change the skin.

This not, there is the difference.

I see, so Anet changed it from Twilight to Twilight

Maybe the first one will be an upgraded Ascended version…

Anything that changes +1 to a item (regardless if it is armor, accessories, food, or weapons) gives an advantage to the person wearing it.

It now is a issue of those who have +1 vs. those who don’t. Those that don’t either will work toward having it, stay status quo, or get bored and leave because they don’t want to partake in the climb.

Think about this (although how many years apart, but it gives you the idea anyway).

Wow original level cap was 60. Spinal Reaper was a 2 handed axe. 203 – 305 damage, 74.7 dps. Item level 76…

Wow today has a 2 handed axe, 14525 – 21788 damage. 5043 dps. Item level 509…

Sort of stupid that is how it ends up over time with stat inflation

Technically, you are correct. I’m curious as to why people don’t get all fed up with the fact that also, technically, legendaries like Twilight are 1% more powerful than a similar exotic in regards to weapon damage…perhaps because the bottom stats are in fact equal to exotics and sub-optimal unless you want soldier’s stats on a weapon.

Reality is the majority of MMO players want a gear treadmill.

So explain to us why all WoW clones have failed, with the latest being The Old Republic. It’s easy to say “the majority of MMO players want feature X, which is just like WoW”, ignoring how WoW clones are dying all around.

Rift is doing just fine….

You mean the game that just (abruptly) shutdown half of it’s remaining servers due to “awesome new server tech” and has to constantly give people reasons (look at all this cool stuff we will give you!!) to prepay months (if not years) worth of subscriptions to meet revenue goals? yeah, doing fine indeed.

There are major companies looking at what Trion has done for their servers and they want to do the same to theirs.

Here is CNN for example.
http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/04/10/cnn-looks-at-rifts-server-technology/

But I am sure you will still see this as “Rift Fails Hard”.

That article was from 4/10/11 – if you have played Rift for any amount of time on one of the more populous servers (say, Faeblight) you would know what a horrible, laggy mess it is when a zone wide event takes place. In fact, because of how they have their servers coded, an event taking place on the live server affects RAID instances – oh how fun HK was with lag from Ember Isles events…total failure. 3s+ lag between key presses being recognized by the server makes for a fun game…

Ascended gear, if done correctly, is a good thing for GW2. Something to strive for, other than just fashion, is needed to hold the attention of all but the same crowd that played GW1. It needs to, as they stated in the article, be only slightly more powerful, AND it needs to be obtainable from more than one source. At the absolute bare minimum, you should be able to obtain it from the new dungeon and CRAFTABLE from rare components dropped in the new dungeon/zone. Ideally, it would be obtainable through karma and WvW as well.

That sounds a lot like what the game already has.

Right…reasons to improve armor when new content is added to the game obtainable through the same sources.

How is it a legendary weapon if you haven’t worked for it in a fair way. A legendary now doesn’t say ‘He worked so hard for it’ no it says ’He’s super lucky and really wealthy’.

Lol, you obviously don’t know how much a legendary costs. The precursor isn’t even half the cost, and there are so many things you have to do to earn your legendary that cannot be bought. WvW, Dungeons, etc.

If you have a legendary, YOU WORKED HARD FOR IT.

lol are you delusional? I bet a mere fraction of those with legendaries “worked hard for it.” It’s called doing some in game activities for 50-60 hours and then forking over $500 to convert gems —>gold… “but no one spends that much money on a game.” Um, yeah if you think that you need a reality check. People spend that much and more – which is why this whole gems-→gold business makes this game pretty valueless in regards to anything that can be “earned” for gold, including legendary weapons.

The Dungeons may or may not have been nerfed since beta – most of us were not in the real beta and will never know. None of the dungeons are currently that difficult, just tedious and unrewarding. If they were nerfed before release, I’d hate to see what they used to be like – what could they of done to nerf them? removed one of the cheap one shot mechanics and reduced the health of bosses from insane to ridiculous?

A lot of dungeons are still buggy – that doesn’t help the “dungeons are too hard” complaints.

I’m sure this is a highly debated subject internally at Anet. The ramifications of changing the way precursors can be obtained could have a significant impact on the GW2 economy.
Creating a guaranteed way of getting the precursor with ONE exception that I can think of (at the moment) would severely effect prices of 70-80 exotics/rares/T5 mats/T6 mats/globs – all of them would likely plummet into oblivion with the exception of named exotics getting a slight bump in value depending on demand.

There are billion mmo out there with highend weapons noone buy, and no gambling with mystic forges. Economy didn’t die at all

you are correct, but they are not GW2.

Guaranteed Precursor = significantly less MF gambling = 100’s of thousands of rares that normally vanished into the MF that are now either 1) sold to a vendor 2) salvaged into ecto’s and base materials 3)not crafted in the first place (more raw materials going unused)

To say it would not have an affect on the GW2 economy is incredibly naive and foolish.

The exception would a solution that randomly rewards some sort of token/fragment/etc from the MF in addition to a rare/exotic when offering 4 weapons to Zommoros…get enough of the tokens/fragments and you can trade it in for a precursor. Any other change in precursor acquisition would be interesting (to see what happens to the market), to say the least.
