Concern B: WvW players don’t like mechanics that get in the way of actually fighting the enemy.

This isn’t a map for WvW players. We’re too few and don’t make A.net enough money to be cared about. This is a map to give PvE’rs more to do. Most of the people kittening over these gimpy mechanics are PvE’rs. That’s why you see posts from people who admit they don’t play WvW but this will get them too.

What “PvE” are you talking about?
All of the Events on the new Map sound like PvP-Events to me.
What do you guys want? An empty flat Area for big Zergs bumping into each other?

The cannon event in the center of the map is pretty kittening PvE.

Considering that silver has been broken for months no thank you. Considering the winners are known at the beginning of the tourney no thank you. Considering the burn out that happens to a lot of the vets leaving maps emptier no thank you.

It really bothers me that they are willing to release a new map without addressing the core problems of WvW. A new map is nothing if 2 servers even working together are dwarfed by the third. Add all the fancy mechanics you want, it means nothing if one side is able to steam roll every thing.

That something you cant addressed beyond saying to each side “you must play the way we say you do” and that simply not going to fly. That is the aim of 1v1v1 so if one side is going crazy the other 2 sides can join up and take the big one down.

I’m thinking that you haven’t spent much time in the t3 match ups lately. There have been a lot of decent suggestions beyond the lets merge servers or shut off WvW in off hours post. If the players hadn’t created the problem themselves by stacking to win for validation Anet wouldn’t have so much to fix. More needs to happen than just putting some saw dust in the transmission and a new paint job.

Here’s the end all solution for the argument of needing a new currency. Karma. It’s completely under-utilized and it needs to be used to directly purchase the items that are simply too expensive and growing in expense in the TP that are used for Ascended gear. Also people need to realize that not everything is equal in this game, some people do continue to experience problems getting any kind of meaningful loot right now! Whole accounts are cut off from it which adds to the frustration.

You seriously still believe in the unlucky accounts? I have watched you on the forums spouting this for over 2 years and no one that I play with has a luckier or unluckier account than any one else. Add to the fact that you have claimed multiple times to have quit————I don’t even know what to say anymore. TLDR: I want a tin foil hat in the gem store so I can mail it to this guy.

HAHAHA Revenge for the 30+ months of forcing PvE players to PvP for their world completion! SATISFACTION AT LAST!

As opposed to the 3 years that WvWers had to go PvEing and still have to…

For what? You don’t have to pay for repairs anymore, so money shouldn’t be an issue anymore, what’s in the open world that you need?

You still have to pay for food, siege and tower upgrades. That leaves a WvW tower defender/roamer with the option to either blob in WvW or go to PvE. I don’t care for either of those two options.

I think a lot of this has to do with your mindset while playing the game

I love building ascended weapons but it’s not a top priority and I manage to poop one out every week and a half to two weeks just playing the game. With this mindset ascended weapons and even armor aren’t really a grind.

I started a new Mesmer. I play 90% WvW and I can’t stand Pve so I go to EotM a pop birthday boosters and run in a circle. I dedicate 90-100% of my play time to this until she is 80. With this mindset leveling is a grind.

I’m not going to claim that there is no grind at all in this game but it could be a LOT worse.

I find this conversation hilarious because the same one is going on in two other forums for games that I play right now. The Exact Same Conversation.

Not sure why that is then hilarious but it for sure is a problem you see in more games. In fact, because this is a problem in multiple games this game even used it to promote the game with the ‘no-grind-philosophy’.

It’s hilarious because you don’t see it in more games lately, it has ALWAYS been there. The fact is that players are able to consume content far faster than developers are able to program it. I would love for a lot of these players that complain about grind to go play some of the PC games from the late 80’s and early 90’s. “Over 60 hours of gameplay” back in the day meant 60 hours of grind and 60 hours of actually playing.

The wiki states that “The amount of items and coin transferable is capped for newer accounts. The cap is gradually alleviated as you progress in the game.” I know that by the time my daughters toon pinged 20 I was able to send her pretty much anything.

I’m hoping for AOE debuff fields that you can shatter for area denial. Anything that makes Mesmer more useful in WvW zerging than just picking off the stragglers on the edge of a battle. I don’t like zerging but if a map push gets called out and I show up I would like to feel that I made more of a contribution than that.
Mesmer isn’t my main though so I could be missing something.

But warriors suffer the most along with elementalists, as they rely most heavily on might. All classes were hit harder than even the ferocity patch but it’s abundantly clear that warriors were hit harder than most other classes from it.

2) When you think you have explored the entire world – you have NOT: You have uncovered the entire map. You have seen all the points of interest, viewed all the vistas, uncovered all the way points, achieved all the skill points, and ground through all the hearts. But wait! You really only have 92% of the world mapped! What!?!?! How can this be? You MUST go into the World v World (WvW) areas, which are Player v Player oriented, in order to complete the Exploration of the World. So, even if you detest PvP style play, you must endure it if you want the once coveted title of “Been there done that”.

I detest PvE but I have to endure it if I want the title. Get over it – I did.

This is technically a player created solution and its an incredibly simple one. We all know that since the genesis of gw2, population has made things very very unfair. WvW has been on decline below the t2 area. There is a pretty significant difference in numbers. A lot of people I know who were once are t3-t4 servers have moved up to t2 and t1.

Thats what I suggest the playerbase do. Stack on t2 and t1 and if everyone did it, then t3 as well. There is literally no point in having 24-27 servers anymore. The population is almost non existent the lower that you go. You may see one queue on a bl during reset night, and thats.

This is what DAoC did. They never solved the problem. They just stacked on 3 servers. Ye, it would mean queues again that lasted 30 minutes, but it would be better than ded gaem WvW. It would make the game feel like launch day when there was constant battling occuring.

Every single time a higher tier player suggests this, it’s insulting and ignores the countless other threads that have been started over the exact same thing.

My server was in T3/T4, guilds left to higher servers, and we plummeted down to T8 (rank 24). We’ve now clawed our way back up to T5 (rank 15). You think we want to be merged into some other tier because a few higher-ranked servers want blobbier fights?

No thanks. We’re not a resource to be used by the likes of you.

When the lower tier servers complain about population imbalance, it’s when there is a matchup like the essentially permanent one in T3 – where one server (and sometimes two, although not in T3) has such a huge comparative population that there is nearly no play to be had by the overwhelmed server. It has nothing to do with “the game won’t support 24 servers”, and that kind of thinking can just be tossed, thanks.

You know what we get on the lower servers? A sense that what we do matters. Our servers go up and down, within the tiers and across them. A few people can make a significant difference, even when we are popping queues (my lowly server had a queue in EBG last night – a Tuesday!) but we have a scant dozen to twenty on during the day. See the imbalance?

We don’t want to be merged.

We know where the gold servers are and how to farm if we want to be there, and since we’re still where we are… take the hint.

This needs to be copy/pasted into every thread where the bloated servers suggest this trash.

There is really no ’fix" for the lower tiers, and tbh, all the lower tier servers should be merged due to low population. If you want to actually have fun playing wvw transfer to T1.

JQ has an awesome community, people are genuinely nice, they don’t even usually spike so that everyone gets a chance, and commanders stop and rez people themselves. Less trolls and flaming here than any server I have been on thus far and are still highly competitive. People here come to play, are not afraid to take risks and have a fun while doing so. I thought it would just be all blobs before I came here, but it isn’t like that at all, even for roaming it is fun. I could still solo a T3 QL from BG the 2nd day I after I arrived, so T1 is still good for zerging and roaming, except here you have an actual team to play with that you don’t have in the lower tiers, and you don’t have whiny commanders yelling at people because they are not timing their skill calls instead of understanding what they have and how to utilize it properly.

They actually are creative with their commanding here, utilize all classes, and don’t complain about things that really do not matter.

Not everyone has the same concept of fun as you so you can stop it with the “make everything like T1” speeches. The positives of your server that you describe I already have on my T3 server. So like I said you can knock it off with all of the everyone should transfer up speeches.

Just tried to cap a camp from gandara – Once i had cleared the t2 camp guards, which i did quite quickly, a steady stream of gandarans started flowing in from all directions. What happened after that is they built a superior ac to the camp and left two people to guard it.

I’m gonna be real honest with you here. Big ole blobs that want nothing more than a ktrain have a problem with t3 towers with 3 defenders and 15 sup ac. They don’t want to take the time to crack the tower. Why shouldn’t small teams have problems taking a t3 tower? If you want those defenders out of the tower so you can take it go ring the doorbell on their keep or take something else and they will follow you.

I have spent hundreds of dollars and thousands of hours on this game. Why wouldn’t I buy the expansion? I may not agree with some of the design decisions and I get down right hostile over some of the changes that have been made but when you take a tour of all the other games out there at the moment there just isn’t anything like GW2.

idk about the person you quoted but white swords bring the zerg, not a small group. there was also more scouts and roaming groups during no white swords, which made small scale fights more common.

That’s funny my experience is that there where less small scale fights and more ktrain blobbing with the sneak attack event. I don’t know what tier you are in but zergs don’t generally show up to swords on a camp and if they do you lead them on a merry chase half way across the map wasting their time. I will repeat this one more time – stack might before you enter the camp and cap it before they pop.

As long as raids don’t have agony we will be fine.

You forget the stat boost. 5% is 5%. The moment raids are geared to ascended, that means that exotic gear is 5% less efficient.

Good thing we have a long way to go then because current raids aren’t even geared to exotics. When people solo content meant for teams … you know the bar in the game is set pretty low.

Lots of people associating need with want in this thread. The guy that separated farming from grinding got it right on the money. Really, the problem is that grinding is just a subjective term; the second someone perceives they have to get something by doing the same thing TOO many times, it’s a grind to them.

I have no doubt that Anet top brass know their industry and its history so their statement about the lack of grind in GW2 is quite genuine. I have noticed that as MMO’s evolve, they do get less grindy so when I see people complain … I just chuckle a bit. For example, just for a jaunt down memory lane … anyone here ever level to 220/70/30 in Anarchy Online? I doubt any that have will QQ about the ‘grind’ in GW2.

Anarchy Online was painful. Even gearing your toon was a grind if you wanted to build a certain way since you had to travel all over the map going to all of the different vendors.

The only grind I have really found is:
Crafting to 500 – you have to make a bunch of items you don’t want/need so you end up salvaging or selling them and it’s BORING.

Ascended armor – Maybe because the effort for such a tiny gain seems not worth it (I still make it anyway)

WXP – Mostly the fact that I don’t Ktrain

Everything else for me is strictly optional or I happen to get the stuff through my normal play. Even for ascended weapons it’s not much effort to crap one out every week or so.

Just my opinion.

Nope I’m not interested in being a birdy either. In fact I can’t think of any race beyond what we have that I would care to play. I would much prefer anet not adding another race because to me it would be a huge waste of resources.

Can you define what you mean by “cheese build”, if you haven’t already?

Because by and large, whenever I hear that, the definition usually boils down to “Something that I lose against without changing my preferred build”.

It may be harsh to say, but I’ve found that several builds players tend to consider “cheesy” in pvp have very simple counters, be they [Sigil of Doom], [Retaliation] or [Not being a kitten].

Just want to make sure this problem is addressing builds that are, unequivocally excellent in PVP and cannot be beaten by any means, and not just qq over players not spoonfeeding you kills.

I’d consider this a cheese build.

How is that cheese? You stack the numbers to do the job you want done. I don’t play warrior that often but I have never had problems beating builds like this on my engineer or Mesmer and maybe a little trouble on my Ele.

There are a lot of new things that an expansion can deliver to the core game

  1. Player housing
  2. GvG
  3. New races
  4. New classes
  5. New weapons for each class
  6. New utility and elite skills
  7. New crafting disciplines
  8. Raids
  9. Massively expand WvW, new structures,siege weapons,etc.
  10. New continent
  11. Expand the personal story
  12. Guild halls
  13. Level cap increase
  14. Player ships and sailing, sea based zones
  15. New dungeons
  1. No reason why this couldn’t come via Living Story or just a generic patch.
  2. They’re already talking about a CDI on GvG. Also does not need an expansion to implement.
  3. Could be easily delivered via Living Story. In fact, I’d expect them to have planned that from the start.

  6. We’ve already gotten healing skills in patches tied to the Living Story so I see no reason why there would be any need for an expansion to add skills.

  8. They’ve done dungeons and revamped world bosses with ties to Living Story, no reason they couldn’t do this as well as it’s practically identical in terms of gameplay.
  9. They’ve already changed WvW plenty (adding WvW skills and traps, changing the maps) without needing an expansion.
  10. They’ve already added new areas via Living Story so there’s no need for an expansion to add areas.
  11. Living Story is an extension of Personal Story.

  13. They should never, ever, increase the level cap for any reason. Increasing the level cap would make all non-Legendary gear obsolete, which would cause a massive shift in the TP, not to mention kittening off everyone who’s spent time getting Ascended gear.

From the looks of it, everything that you think they should put into an expansion they have already experimented with via Living Story or could easily do without an expansion. Expansions are a risk, because it would force all of the current players to re-consider whether they want to keep playing the game and it makes the bar for new players even higher. It’s not exactly news that the bar of entry to a game like World of Warcraft, with their heptillion expansions, is very high due to the costs and hassle of getting them all. And I have to say that one of the best things about GW2 is that you play it whenever you want to. There’s no gear treadmill making your stuff obsolete every 6 months and there’s no monthly subscription.

What an expansion does that Living Story cannot do, is hype the product outside of the current playerbase. Living Story is perfectly capable of delivering everything that an expansion can give, but it doesn’t cost anything for the players except time.

If they are so capable of releasing all of this content via LS then why don’t they? In my opinion living story has been nothing but throw away trash, bite sized pieces of busy work to shut up the players that are into story.

Your #2 point is why I glitch my ac’s to the back of the wall. It makes it a lot harder to target/hit them. Also there are a lot of placements in towers that are really difficult to hit even without glitching.

Just transfer to a tier with servers that are relatively balanced. Your experience will be much better. Players serious about WvW have all pretty much consolidated to the T1 and T2 servers, on the NA side at least. Doing so will save you a whole lot of hassle, complaining and waiting for things to change on your server or Anet to facilitate changes which make things more balanced.

I love how mega blob servers keep saying that they are more serious or more skilled when it is simply untrue.

I’m not going to say the change is good or bad yet because I haven’t played in the off hours. My guild has had to change it’s tower strategy and always leave 1 player in our claimed tower while the rest run supply, buff yaks and keep the merc camps clear. I have noticed that if you manage to get your tower sieged and buffed and the ktrain shows up they don’t stay long since they can’t just pvd.

I think you missed the point. One step forward two steps back.

After reading the OP’s post and Vayne’s response, I suggest that you are the one missing the point.

“White Knight” is being used as a derogatory against people who have aee enjoying the changes, which is the lowest form of argument. If you disagree with Vayne, you are welcome to contribute meaningful discourse to support your counter claim.

I am not 100% on board with every change made to the game, but I don’t expect that I should be. To blanket out this many claims against the evolution of the game really makes me think that the game must still be amazing compared to competing offerings, for people who find so much wrong to still invest large amounts of time in the game.

Funny I never said white knight. That is a derogatory term that I choose not to use.

You are right about this game being better than the competition for now. I would prefer that this game stay better than the competition. That is the reason I state my opinions.

That can’t be right. When I flip a camp and my server is nowhere near I toss troll rams and after the first 5 or 6 you have to spread them out.

I blame the Borderlands style players. “I’m not getting loot every .5 seconds so this game sucks”. I suggest taking a break you can always come back even if its only for a little while.

Why is it that people who criticize assume they’re right while people who like stuff are wrong? Why isn’t it possible that someone can like a game without being a white knight?

The idea of play how you want has been taken so far out of it’s original context, it’s lost all it’s meaning. Anet was pretty clear on what they meant.

In most games, you level by going quest hub to quest hub and that’s pretty much what you do, until you get to a high enough level to go to the next quest hub, afterwhich you do dungeons then you raid. That’s the PvE experience of most themepark MMOs.

Anet wanted to be different, and this game is different. You can jump into WvW. You can level in Edge of the Mists. You can now level in PvP. You can craft. You can do a bunch of everything. You can never leave Queensdale if you like and still make max level. Hell someone leveled to max in the tutorial.

That’s what Anet meant and it continues to be true to this day.

I didn’t miss the point. Other people in the thread are commenting on play how you want, and I wanted to stop that.

The one step forward two back thing is not fact, it’s opinion. Everyone is entitled to believe what they want.

Sorry I forgot that you like 90% of anets decisions and you are entitled to your opinion. The title probably is a little misleading. The FACT remains that not just on the forums but in game players have been very unhappy with a lot of the decisions made in the past year.
